13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

knowledgeable with her material, patient, and encourages students to ask
questions about anything.
Teaching math! Not many math teachers are good at explaining things.
She makes the students feel positive rather than negative when we enter the class.
she has good communication skills & techniques that helps students have a better understanding of the problems.
Shes so great! I loved her as a teacher. I wish I could have her every year. Shes very nice and very sweet. She shows so much appreciation for her students and really wants to see them succeed.
shes nice I guess and helpful, well not for me she didn't explain it well when she went to overlook peoples in class activity as we were doing it.
She genuinely cares about her students, their well being and comprehension of the material being taught; this I feel is what separates Scanlan from being a good teacher to an exceptional teacher. She also is adept in the subject of mathematics, is clear in communication, works hands on with students often taking extra time to make sure everyone understands from many angles, she also encourages group work in this math class. This is different for me, I have never been in a math class where we worked in groups, math for me was always a single person subject, but I found it to be very useful and rewarding. I helped a couple of my class makes work through some problems they were stumped on, and we found that once they did the factoring, they understood the rest and they liked working through them, the factoring was just stumping them. Helping others see that it's not so hard was a good feeling.
Excellent and dedicated to her students learning.
hands down, she really cares about her students succeeding
She was sweet and always lively in class. she was always concerned about if we understood how to do a problem/formula correctly and i respect her as a teacher.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

class got off track on the schedule, would appreciate it if you could take
time to readjust the schedule and let students know so we can know what to
expect before each class. Some important handouts are not on laulima.
nothing.
None at all. Keep up the good work! :D
none.
None
I say, to be more on time or keeping on scedule.
Changes to LaVache?....Nope. She's Great.
None
make ms. scanlon teach math 103 fall 2011
Maybe go in a slower pace? i understand that we didnt have enough class time, which may have been a reason for rushing, but overall i think as a whole it was a wonderful Math class.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Have us give her feedback on our work though laulima.
email and offers study groups outside of class to prep
She's really helpful when it comes down to passing the course. She'll try hard to get you up to the
same pace as everyone else.
she helps students individually & sacrifice her own time to help students out with any problems.
She definitely makes a student feel special. She shows so much concern for her students. I really implore her for that. She shows a lot of heart.
I'm not sure.
In almost everything LaVache did reflected her true concern for students well being, whether it was being available in her office, via email, spending extra time on areas of difficulty, setting up extra outside of class time for those who need extra help, so we can all do good on our final exam, everything that LaVache does reflects her care for students. Even assigning students to create a portfolio to correct mistakes is a genuine care for the students to understand where their mistake was so that they can keep on improving to their best ability.
Made time for extra study sessions and passed out work sheets to help us
learn.
she tells and show us
Everyday she would partner us up to form groups since its better to work together with math problems. she always told us she was free if we wanted to talk to her oneonone.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes because she was always helpful and tried to make math not so difficult.
DEFINITELY!!
Yes I would because she's a fun positive teacher and the fact that she also teaches the subject
carefully and clearly for students to understand.
yes, because she can adjust to any students & help them on their level.
Yes, 100%. She is the best!
I would recommend this class its fiarly easy especially if you have AWESOME group members than of course yes. Also if you took 24 this is pretty easy to understand. Also if you can learn things on your own I say take this class.
Yes. Definitely. She is one of the best teacher's I have ever had, and it's not just because I love mathematics. Her teaching is clear, concise, on point, her involvement with students is there whenever you need it, and encourages always working your best, and she has a great personality. I would love to know if she teacher higher mathematics like trigonometry or calculus, I would take her.
Yes, because she makes Math fun and easy to talk to.
yes!!!
Absolutely!
Being in her class made me enjoy Math again! ill admit i was never the smartest person in math, but she made me understand it a bit better, and i know she could make anyone enjoy math as well.

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

Want to thank her for being a creative and caring teacher and ecouraging us
to not give up on math.
She is one of the best teachers I've had since i have been in college which is 2 years now.
One of the math teachers I like. :)
great teacher.
I love her
Pretty good i guess.
She helped me register for my Math140 for the fall and I am greatly appreciative, I feel like I can approach her about anything, I and fond of her as a person, I admire and respect her.
Excellent teacher. I would recommend her to anyone.
Keep doing what you are doing! you are a wonderful teacher, and if i could i would take every math class you are a teacher in!

LOVE HER!
It was really a joy to have Scanlan as a teacher, I am actually (suprisingly) sad that I will have to move on to another math teacher, I truly liked having her as a teacher. I was upset when students can be so immature in class, if you teach higher math, let me know via email! aloha
none!
