I needed an elective in the 300/400 level and it fulfilled a requirement for the business school.
I needed an International upper division elective course
Elective for a major requirement
International elective
IB elective
it fulfilled a focus designation
Certificate requirement
I want to work in international community organizations.
To fulfill major requirement
It fulfilled a Political science upper level elective.
Expand knowledge on International relations and forced migration theories
Had him for a prior class
needed an upper division elective class
Elective met requirements.
Time of the class is perfect with my work schedule
I am in between changing majors and wanted to take a POLS class to see if I enjoy that specific major.
Just part of my preparation for my Masters in Public Administration. I can do any course I like but just chose this one to gain knowledge more about International Relations and major issues of states within themselves and with other states.
Interest in political science and the specific course content.
I am interested in pursuing Human Rights Law in the future and this class gave me a lot of great information to think about.
It fulfilled a major requirement, I was interested in the subject, and the time fit my schedule. Also, after the first day of instruction, I knew I would enjoy Professor Choi's teaching style. So, I wanted to stay in the class!
It was directly correlated to my intended major, international relations.
The subject matter looked interesting to me and it fit well into my schedule
This course is an elective requirement for a POLS degree and is related to the subject matter I plan to study in graduate school.
I could not take any of the other IB Elective courses I wanted due to time conflicts.
Because I'm planning on majoring in global politics at my transfer college next semester, so I'm interested in the subject material.
I decided to take this course because I was interested in the subject.
POLS major elective
Because my major is political science and I enjoy those classes. and even though i've fulfilled my requirements I feel that this class would be interesting.

13. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
It was helpful that he would put the powerpoints on laulima so that I can look at the material learned in class to see if I missed anything or just to look back to it. His extra credit opportunities were very helpful.
That he really like the subject matter
Willing to help and extremely friendly
Very kind and understanding
He seemed very educated in his subject which thrilled me as a student.
is effective use of emails/communication.
He was very kind
He's the Korean Jackie Chan and very funny. Good man.
He knew what he was teaching about International relations and human rights.
He had extra credit points.
He demonstrated that he was the expert in the subject matter, and expressed it positively in the classroom
Humor
very flexible and understanding
His youthfulness and overall positive presence.
He explained study guide for quiz clearly and helped us get good grade.
He's able to lead effective class discussions and answer clarifying questions clearly.
Have passion of teaching in making sure students understand each concept and mostly being open to informally talk to individual students which is very helpful especially those with shy nature and language barriers.
He is knowledgable about the subject matter, and is very good at building a rapport with his students.
He was very knowledgable about the course material and I enjoyed his lectures.
He is obviously very intelligent and seems to enjoy teaching. He is very helpful and always answers our questions effectively. I looked forward to attending his class due to the ways in which he ran class. He's approachable, encourages us to learn more, keeps his lectures interesting, and makes sure students are involved in class discussions.
His openness to the students opinions and his flexibility in his lectures.
Won is a nice and upbeat guy which allowed for the entire class to always have a happy and joyous vibe.
* All readings and deadlines available online * Convenient office hours for make-up of tests
Willing to accommodate to student issues with class, homework, presentations, etc.
He is a great professor, who introduced me to forced migration/refugee material within international politics.
I can tell Won is passionate about forced migration and international law. He made sure he was prepared for each lecture and assigned us readings that helped us understand the topic even more. Instead of straight lectures, he mixed in group projects and discussions. By doing so, he encouraged us to get to know our classmates which made the learning environment more comfortable.
Good teacher who enjoys teaching students. Tries hard to structure the class so that student will enjoy the topic even though forced migration is a difficult topic to grasp. Very nice and pretty flexible, tried to be of good help to students.
He is really understanding when it comes to the class. He goes over the information in class until everyone understands the material.
14. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the instructor?
It wasn't helpful that he would give us vague guidelines for presentations. Also, not providing a short review before an exam or quiz would have been helpful not just for the exam or quiz but just so that we'd just have an overview on what we just went over.
Sometimes he was hard to understand because of his accent
n/a
Slightly hard class in confusion
Due to the broad subject, some of his teachings were a bit unclear and very hard to differentiate, I felt like he could have added something to make the teaching materials a little less close and a bit more differentiated
Quizes...
Sometimes his directions were confusing
He is not teaching enough classes. Remedy this.
His slides were not as interesting. Too much information, should be explained and showed in a simple way for students to be more engaged and understand the topics covered in class.
His grading system is terrible. He gives us many chapters to study and only gives us 5 question quizzes and the answers are based off of the SMALLEST detail. Halfway through the class he mentioned the class average was a D.
Certain portions of lecture were dense but understandable that it is a necessity in academia
Power Points

Sometimes his instructions were unclear.
Helpful in a way that he respects the class's opinions making students feel involved in the learning process.

13. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He is very genuine and nice, and is very thorough and knowledgeable when it comes to his lectures.
Cares about his students
He showed TED talks which were my favorite part about the class
How he was always helpful and there when you needed him. He also was very approachable and knew his subject matter very well.
He clearly explained the issue and went into depth about each topic he taught.
He always seems to be prepared for everything. There isnt a time when it seems like he doesnt know whats going on or when he doesnt know what hes talking about
He seems genuinely interested in teaching. I could tell he was passionate about the material. I also liked how there were various ways to learn (ted talks, posts, readings, presentations, in-class voting). I like how the final had options about various films, a very different way to learn while still challenging me to make real-life connections.
14. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Many of the lectures were boring
The accent he had but i believe that it wasn't that bad. I understood him just fine.
Sometimes I find the lectures to be a bit boring, and I tend to zone out. However this is mostly because I am not very interested in the subject, and no matter what Won Geun Choi does, it always seems boring to me. Though at times he can make it interesting, but its mostly the subject's fault that I dont feel as engaged.
Nothing! Great class!

I was able to learn a lot of new information in this class, and I really enjoyed instructor Choi. In the future I would recommend that Instructor Choi try to gain more in class participation through in class group assignments, or perhaps calling on students individually. Another way to get students to pay more attention might be to assign homework on the articles he would like us to read, so students wouldn't be able to skip the work entirely. I very much enjoyed instructor Choi, and I would take another class of his!
Great Class and very good teacher
I like that the material of the class was not over complicated. The information was presented in a very straight forward manner which allowed students to understand material. Highly recommended instructor and course!

It satisfied one of my elective requirements for civil engineering and I was possibly considering a minor is POLS.
I needed one more class in my a certain time slot and this was the only class open and I have an interest in political science.
I am thinking about majoring in Political Science and this fulfills one of its requirement.
Interest in learning about politics
I wanted to learn what political science was about because my friend's major is political science.
POLS major requirement
I chose to take this course because I was interested in American politics and how it originated. Also, I wanted a stronger understanding of what "political science" entailed and how it was implemented in other parts of the world.
I am POLS major.
I chose this course because I am interested in a possible political science major and it fulfilled a core credit. It wasn't available by any regular teachers, but only offered by teaching assistants from other countries. The language barrier made it difficult to learn. It was offered MWF.

13. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
good power points
His passions about political science.
He wants to help and he really cares about what he teaches.
He is always trying to engage the class into discussing the material of the current lecture he had given.
Willing to help.
His lectures would combine information from the readings along with current events and it really helped me to put things into perspective and to always think about how things in the world happen with a political point of view.
I didn't find anything valuable or helpful about Won's class. I took an Advanced Placement United States Government course in my senior year of high school and absolutely loved it which is how my interest in political science began. I competed in state competitions dealing with the foundations of constitutionalism and how politics played a role in American society. In Won's class, most of the concepts he taught didn't seem to relate to political science nor did they interest me at all.
He is an extremely kind and caring teacher.
He try to communicate and understand student. And his lecture is well prepared.
He is invested in a lot of the subject matter and he is quite knowledgable
14. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the instructor?
none
The language barrier seemed to get in the way at times.
At times he is hard to understand and sometimes his lectures were boring.
Everything he assigned helped me gain the necessary knowledge for this course.
His accent.
Since Won is originally from South Korea, I expected him to have an accent and since I am of Asian descent I can easily discern and understand most accents, but for a subject as meticulous as Political Science, his accent made it very hard to understand or grasp any difficult concept because his knowledge of English was on such a basic level.
Language barrier.
Sometimes because of time limitation, Choi skipped some part of the lecture.
He can be too quiet sometimes

Won is really good at making the information understandable and enjoyable! I also liked the movies and shows that we watched.
If Won can improve his English to explain difficult concepts using broader vocabulary, then this course wouldn't have been so poor. Furthermore, if he had conducted some in-class activities (since the class was so small) my interest would've been kept. Unfortunately, he simply came to class and rambled on about miscellaneous political concepts that didn't seem to relate to each other.
Thank you for your lecture!
