12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
acknowledging the fact that everyone in society has different views, and to not judge people by their appearance because you do not know their background story
Professor Dial demonstrated a strong understanding of the foundations for us to do our sociological research by providing us with powerpoints and lecture notes that were critical in helping me understand the course.
The most valuable aspect of this course is definitely the opportunities to conduct research on a topic of my choice. The hours that I spent in the field collecting data both for quantitative & qualitative research and the amount of time I spent in learning how to analyze the data I collected are definitely valuable experience for me. The subject that I research on this semester is also an eye opener for me and gave me a clearer sense of what subject to pursue on when I apply for Grad school in the future! This instructor is very reachable if I have questions and he spends lots of times checking on our progress of our research weekly step by step which made this course interesting and worthwhile. The comments that he had on each of my assignments are also beneficial in my learning. This is definitely a good course that I would recommend to other students.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
He actually taught us something unlike many sociology professors.
The knowledge and techniques that I have acquired were most valuable.
Learning some of the statistical programs and methods of writing a report and connecting it to literature reviews. I also enjoyed some of the videos and hearing conversation about Jonathan's life and experiences, I would like more.
Learning how to read and analyze research writings was really important, because I gained the ability to be an active more critical member of society.
Professor Dial has an amazing style of teaching and is very helpful and knowledgeable. Extremely approachable and intelligent, he also seems like he cares and is passionate about his students and teaching and sociology in general.
The stories and life lessons Jonathan was able to tie into lecture were helpful. Videos from time to time were good too!
I think that what is most valuable to me in this course is the clarity in lectures. Dial's lectures are very easy to understand and I enjoy the youtube videos and other documents that he uses as examples. They are very interesting.
Qualitative and Quantitative project were most valuable because it actually made us learn about the context in depth than just reading the book and lectures.
The process of developing and constructing a research project. It was difficult for me, but it became very useful in the end.
We actually created and carried out our own studies.

13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The TA was awful.
N/A
Nearly the whole beginning of the course seemed repetitive and like it was for dumb students. These are things people should already know and sometimes I questioned what the point was. Some things should be cut out and maybe put towards other aspects.
overlaps with a lot of things I have previously learned
Way too much time talking from a powerpoint, lectures weren't very engaging.
I just wish that I got a little more feedback from the TA.

23. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
No TA. The TA was very un-helpful.
I would suggest that he and his T.A. give feedback on the assignments we had to turn in.
I appreciated him being engaging during lecture and very relatable. Sometimes it seemed like the material bored him also, which caused me not to pay attention. Maybe have some random attendance days also. I didn't like the fact that Weds lab had a TA instead of Jonathan. I understand there are schedule conflicts and what not, but I thought it was a disadvantage to us when Jonathan would tell us one thing and Sulaiman would tell us another. I felt like I needed more help in my project.
If we could get more feed back on the projects and assignments in the class, it would be easier to try and make improvements and the ones that follow.
Keep doing his thing. He is the man!
Be on the same page as TA, spend time in lecture to go over problems and solutions for assignments. One day a week in lab is not enough for what you expect on the papers.
Require attendance and require the supporting TA to attend lectures too. Sometimes the TA would give different info from what was said in class which could get confusing and frustrating.
I think Dial is an excellent teacher. He is clear with his lectures and there is nothing more he can do to improve the teaching. All is good!
I think Professor Dial is doing an excellent job with all the examples and thorough explanations he gives to the class. I think I would have benefited more overall in this course if I had been in his lab.
clearer instructions for lab. More time to do research in lab

Dial was a great professor, I learned a lot from him but he should chose a new TA.
Overall great job for his first real teaching semester :) He speaks very well and I enjoyed hearing about his life.
really enjoyed him as a professor
Huhhhhh, I don't want to bring down ratings for Jonathan Dial because I was in the wed lab with his TA, Sulaimman and it was horrible. As soon as Jonathan left, I think I can speak for my lab that our interest and focus in the class had a steady decline..... Only negative about Soc 300 was wed labs.
Jonathan is a very understanding professor and he grades very fairly, not to mention he is very funny.

Everything was most valuable. There was not one that was of great value than another.
Qualitative research.
The research that we did!
We had a lot of creative freedom with our projects and I had a lot of fun doing it
Basic survey-conducting protocol and how surveys are done.
The vast amount of knowledge Jonathan Dial had at his disposal, and the ease at which he could integrate such knowledge into everyday situations.
How we split the course up into two different sections; quantitative and qualitative, doing two separate big projects for each
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Nothing. Everything was good.

I can't thin of anything because he really was a great teacher.

Teach with out the text book.
I liked how he teaches, he's very forward to all his students about the homework and lectures.

I feel like i've learned a lot and it's been a good intro into upper division classes
Professor Dial was one of my favorite professors in college. He's really great!
Make the exams open book because it was difficult for some that had some kind of learning disabilities. Or english as a second language barrier.
I enjoyed taking your class, and would recommend it to others. Also one of the coolest professors at UH.
: )
Really great teacher and has a plethora of knowledge of the subject ad material
I liked how the surveys were broken up into parts. It definitely made putting them together a lot easier. :)
