5. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
I learned not only much about the traditions of the Polynesian people, it's as if I dove into a world that I had no idea was so elaborate and beautiful. I recommend this class for all those seeking more knowledge of where the tattoo itself originated from and how it transformed into what it is today.
Today, I have a better understanding on the history of tattooing and Polynesian tattoo. I enjoyed every minute of this class. Tricia is an awesome teacher!
I've gained knowledege of pacific hawaiian tattoos
History of other places culturally conscious.
The challenge to do good research was a benefit for me. Information about pre-contact life and the place that tattooing had in the lives of Polynesians. Biggest thing was learning that aliʻi women were also tattooed.
history of my culture as well as the commonalities of other pacific islanders
a deeper spiritual connection. more knowledge in this course than any other course I took. very surprised at the amount of knowledge I gained from this class. the best I took here at Windward. Tricia is a huge asset to Windward and the UH system.
I learned a lot of new things about tattooing. I can know identify different tattoo designs for different places.
This course gave me an opportunity to learn and understand my own culture better as well as strengthen my bond to indigenous pacific islander or more specifically "Polynesians" through commonalities

Amazing woman, amazing instructor.
This is one of my favorite classes. Kumu Tricia is an awesome teacher who is full of knowledge in her subject area. I wish there could be other pacific island tattoo or art classes.

5. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
To take the time and really think twice about things because sometimes things are not always what it seems.
I learned more about how tattoos relate to my culture as well as other polynesian cultures.
Learning from different cultures that I didn't otherwise know of really helped me out in understanding the differences between island groups and people Tricia is an awesome teacher and I really wish she had more classes here at windward.
a richer idea of what polynesian culture looks like as a whole.
That no matter how disconnected you are from your culture and traditions, you will always be connected, you just need to find it in you.
Knowing the type of designs and patterns that tattoos come from. and the history behind it all.
Research principles when dealing with Polynesian History. I also have a new appreciation for Polynesian Cultures.
It has taught me a little more about my culture and the traditions of others

12. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Looking at the different motifs from the Polynesian cultures and breaking it down piece by piece to get a better understanding of the tradition and purpose behind them.
I liked learning about different cultures and their tattoo/art
Seeing the tattoo designs
I enjoyed every aspect of the class.
The visual photos and videos. And guest speaker and her storys of her travailing.
Her discussions are open and unbiased. Great guest speakers. Visit to Museum. She is very caring and empathetic towards student success.
13. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I don't like the structure of the course. When we had assignments or papers to do, there was no format to tell us what was expected of us. Ex content, page format, etc.
I didn't like that I signed up for a class on tattoo and ultimately got a class on polynesian history that included tattoo. It really was very misleading and by the time I had realized that it wasn't what I wanted it was too late to drop it and pick another class.
writing a paper but thats college for you. lol
Nothing. I liked all of it!
14. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Awesome! It will constantly keep you questioning and thinking about things covered in the course.
This course was interesting and different but I would recommend that there should be more of a structure for assignments
It should be more about tattoo and less about polynesian history.
I really enjoyed this class it was very informative and Tricia gave me a better understanding about the different cultures and traditions of other Polynesians. She was very in dept about how we examined these cultures and traditions. She gave excellent examples in class and was very open to hearing the classes thoughts and ideas.
Very interesting class and worth going to.
Excellent. Also relevant to current trends.
that I would definitely recommend her class

21. Other comments:
Awesome teacher! Very humble, kind, and understanding. She is also very passionate and can relate well to her subject.
She should be asked to teach more classes at Windward community College. Another example of the type of instructors we have here. She really cares about our success. She fits the model of why I love this school.Totally awesome teacher.
Tricia is a very knowledgable teacher. It was really great learning from someone that has "been there, done that"
