This course is required for my major because I need a high level of Math.
Apparently I didn't need to take this course for my major, but I believe that it helps me a little bit more in Accounting. We did go over some of the accounting formulas in this class, and Professor Furuto helped me understand it a lot more than my Accounting teacher.
This course helped me gain the knowledge needed to move onto the next math level.
Although I had taken this class as an elective I feel that this was an awesome course especially since I am going into teaching. I learned some new ways of trying to teach different methods.

Some extra sample problems would be the only way to improve this course, and it isn't really necessary because the professor provides enough material.
I think everything is pretty much provided.
More study guides in advance and review in class. Maybe make the exams multiple choice and have the students show their work on the problems.

No suggestions. Good teaching style!
I don't know what could improve this course any more. I believe it is fine the way it is now.
Maybe not making MML a full requirement and not having to write all those notes down. It takes a lot of time to do that.
Just continuing what you are doing! P.S. Can you teach other math courses as well!
Opening up the MML sooner would be helpful. It is difficult to finish the more complicated MMLs in two days. Some exams were quite hard and difficult to finish on time.

Great!
Professor Furuto is very helpful, understanding, and willing to help outside of class. I would highly recommend him to anyone who struggles with math.
Professor Furuto is an excellent teacher. I really enjoyed his class. He made sure every student understands what is being taught and explains thoroughly. Whenever there was questions, he always went over it. Class was never boring, surprisingly for a math class.
He is a good teacher and I enjoyed taking his class.
I think that he is an awesome instructor. He is always using different techniques that helps us understand what is trying to be taught. He provides many opportunities for assisted help whenever in need. I feel that he is understanding and really does strive to allow us all in the class to receive A's!

Great!
This class was wonderful and I would continue on to higher math levels if Professor Furuto is teaching them.
This course was great. It refreshed my memory on what I already learned and also taught me new things as well.
It was good and I learned a lot of new things.

This course enhanced my personal and/or professional development in major, kinesiology because it helped me touch up upon this particular math subject that I learned in high school and improved my understanding of it.
This course enhanced my personal development in my concentration because I learned a great deal in math and hope to further my knowledge in higher calculus classes.
Learned how to apply math to real life situations.
It was an elective but my major is in business so it really helped with that. Not because it was a math course but because there were some things taught about business that were in this course. It made me more familiar and more confident in math.

There isn't really anything to add, but the professor should go more in depth of the harder sections of the subject so that all of the students comprehend.
Adding a few more review packets would help with mastering the material.
The activities that could be added to this course to improve my learning is step-by-step answers for the questions of the study guide.
The group work was good enough.
Using MyMathLab helps us students out a lot because it has the textbook on the website as our homework. Also, whenever we do homework, there are examples to help us with our problems if we have any. Its a really great tool to help us learn.

His teaching style and method as it is already is awesome. The only suggestion is to slow a bit down when it comes to the ending section of the chapter since they are more complex than those in the beginning.
A suggestion for improving the course is slowing down and breaking down each section per class day.

He is an awesome math professor and professor overall. His teaching skills were astonishing where I haven't met another teacher/professor like him. I enjoyed being in class and learning with my peers.
The instructor provided all the information necessary to succeed in the course. He clearly conveyed the material to the students and provided numerous examples to enhance the student's understanding. He answered questions in a timely manner and is always open to help students.
My overall evaluation of Michael Furuto is that he's a superb teacher.
Great class overall
Michael Furuto's is and outstanding professor who always is happy and willing to answer our questions if we have any. He's a great motivator for class even though sometimes we don't get the jokes. He's an all around great teacher and person.
I loved this class and I loved his stories. I learned a whole lot more in college than I would have ever learned in the working field.
Professor Furuto has been one of the most influential teachers in UHWO. Since the beginning of the semester, Professor expects the best out of his students 200% and I strongly believe that it helped boost everyone's confidence to do well. Professor F. did a wonderful job in breaking down the material, which made it so much easier to understand the many ways in solving problems. I actually understood some of the material in Professor Furuto's course that I wasn't able to understand from my last semester math course. Overall, Professor Furuto is always organized before a lesson, respects each and every one of his students, and is open to help solve any problem, be it big or small. If I could, I would be more than happy to take his math course again.
He is a great professor who knows his material and really cares about helping his students succeed.

Overall evaluation is that this course is a really fast-pace learning class and it really shows whether you studied and put much effort into learning the course objectives.

Tutors. Knowing that we are the highest level math course on campus, we need lots of help when it comes to homework and preparing for exams. It would be nice to have other people that are available to help us when our professor is not.
Maybe letting students figure out the answer before giving it to them during note taking
I really like mymathlab we already use it for homework and I think it is a really good tool
I liked doing the study guide as a group rather than in pairs and then writing the solution on the board.

If the homework will be harder than what we practice and learn in class, we should practice harder problems so we feel more prepared for the homework. Even more.. A lot of questions on exams seem a million times harder than what we learn in class, do for homework and do for the study guides for exams. It should be all equal in difficulty level so we feel prepared and not to upset and overwhelmed when the exam hits our desk.

Excellent. He's a passionate teacher that shows that teaching students is his passion. He's super easy-going and easy to approach if you have a question. He makes our classroom feel more like a family and that's something I very much appreciate.

This course is, hands down, the hardest course I have ever taken. However, I've been told by many that Calc 2 is the hardest of all calculus classes. I feel prepared enough to move onto calc 3 next semester.
Challenging
this course is HARD!!!! but it is taught by a good professor so it's not that bad I guess.
it's a great class to take if you love math and want to challenge yourself. Or if you want to take higher math classes but have a hard time. Since the classes are usually smaller, there's more opportunities for one on one help from the professor and peers.

Yes i had to take it for my Elem. Education in order to take Math 111 and Math 112. It definitely broadened my knowledge and refreshed my memory in Algebra and the basics of math

It has expanded my knowledge of college algebra, which I am unsure if it will be useful in my major of Hawaiian-Pacific Studies. It might be useful if I decide to go to Med School.
It taught me to never give up because there were many times where I felt so frustrated over a problem that I could not solve but I pushed through.

I'm glad I took Furuto for Math, I heard a lot of bad reviews from other students taking other math professors. This course and professor is probably the best class any student can take. In high school, I honestly learned nothing from my Alg. 2 teacher, so it pretty challenging to learn and refresh my memory on how to solve certain problems but with Furuto, it made learning easy. He's always helpful and willing to meet with his students.

It would be good to provide less problems for homework if there is only a 48 hour turn around period (i.e. Mon to Wed or Tues to Thurs) and more for work that's due over the weekend. Also there would be times where we would run out of time going over a section and it would feel rushed or we would not be able to do review although stated on the syllabus. Pacing better would be good.

Not sure if the professor has control over this, but questions that involved rounding on the homework were extremely frustrating when .00001 off on an answer. It felt common for questions on tests to be a significant degree more difficult than what was done in class or on homework assignments. I would prefer that test questions and in class examples match in difficulty.

Aside from the normal lecture examples, I would like to do other harder problems covering the material we learn; especially before an exam. Sometimes I feel like I understand the examples we do in class and the homework we do, but then the exam questions always seem to be harder and I find myself not knowing what to do. I think I would feel more prepared for exams if we practiced with harder problems.

Very challenging, but professor Furuto will help you as much as he can so you will be able to understand the material.
This course is definitely no walk in the park. You NEED to attend every single class because if not, you will fall behind. You need to make sure you engage yourself in the homework and material for an appropriate amount of time. But because math is my favorite subject, this class has been fun for me and the lectures have been easy to follow.

Personally, I think this course could have been better if the homework was not as extraneous. I found myself taking over a few hours just to complete the homework assignments. I had to look at the question and write down my work to turn in for homework check. I think the amount of homework could either be reduced, or not make it mandatory to show your work. Time that had to go into other courses and priorities went into completing the homework assignments.
Use more traditional style learning, so students can process new information before jumping into foreign math.

Iʻve learned more within MATH 135 than I have in any other math class Iʻve ever taken. I feel like Iʻve gained so much knowledge during this semester and that feels great!
I didn't see any relationship in the content of this course with my major (CENTS). However, this class was a great opportunity for me to test my self. Math 135 with Furuto has enhanced my critical thinking skills immensely. I was taught how to think outside the box and become a responsible worker.
It really helped me understand math a bit more, like previous math topics that I've had a hard time with, I have a bit more understanding of them.

Resources that could be added to this course in order to improve student learning would be a student leader/peer leader. I feel that having a someone there who had already completed the course would be very helpful.
Honestly, the class is good and Professor Furuto is very helpful. Although the lectures are good, I feel like there should be more resources posted. For instance, Mymathlab can be bit vague. I would suggest offering youtube videos to assist or any other websites as a guide. Mymathlab is a way for students to independently learn on their own, but along the way we may need help doing the homework as we are by ourselves. I used several youtube videos for help as sometimes the examples online weren't enough.

Michael Furuto is great. I love that he mixes independent study with group work in order to stress the new material.
I would suggest supplying students with more resources with the homework just in case. (youtube videos, websites, etc.) The notes and videos/examples online may not be enough. Secondly, the class is great but i feel it would greatly benefit if it incorporated group learning. Furuto is a nice teacher, and I can see a lot more successful students if furuto can implement a way for students to interact with each other more and establish relationships. Moreover, I understand that students must showcase their knowledge and familiarity with all the content, but I feel as if the final shouldn't be based on everything learned in class. Several students may have other finals and work to deal with. Covering past material is a lot. Lastly, for the study guides they are a bit helpful but I feel as if you should post how you solved it and what homework assignment it is from.I believe it will help students identify what areas they need to work on.
The only thing I would suggest is that maybe he could work on his time management? It's not too bad but sometimes I would be a little late to my next class but my other professors are alright with it because it's only a minute or two.

Professor Furuto's teaching style and methods are very effective and I really appreciated this about him. I am not usually very strong at math, but Professor Furuto understood this and explained every topic in the simplest way. He definitely made me feel more confident about my math skills.
I feel that there should be more extra credit opportunities, and that there should be more in class reviews before exams.
The homework on mymathlab became a little outrageous. 40 questions having 4-7 separate questions inside is too much, not many students have that much time to complete that much work.

Try to incorporate fun ways to learn the material if the lesson is too difficult to teach.
Examples during lecture pertaining to the material in the homework should be added. Current examples are too simple to be applied to what was encountered in the homework.
More group work and class involvement with problems being done on the board; rather than doing the problem and having the students just follow along and copy, the students should maybe tell the instructor what we should do next for the problem to ensure understanding/see what we donʻt understand.
Maybe create a PowerPoint that highlights the key points of the chapter that way more class time will be spent on practicing problems. For math I think that learning by doing problems is more effective than just learning by taking notes on what the book says. Since the exams are challenging, doing examples in class that gradually reaches the same difficulty level as problems students may come across on a test, may improve the class average and help students know what to expect. I find that when students know what to expect on an exam they study a lot better and do a lot better. The study guides are helpful, however most of the time students don't know where to begin with those problems. That's why I think if we spent more time on just doing problems during class the students would be more prepared by the time the exam comes around.

Dr. Furuto is overall a good teacher who knows his material well. I can tell that he really enjoys what he teaches. While his tests are hard, he is always available to students.
He is an effective professor that nurtured a friendly classroom and helped us grasp difficult concepts in Calculus.
He is an excellent teacher, and both in the classroom and out, heʻs there for his students and wants nothing more than for them to succeed and live on to their full potential. Heʻs very knowledgable, and despite the complexity of calculus II, he teaches in a way we can understand.

Just need to work on briefly explaining the concepts of the chapter/section and get to doing more problems so that we can be more prepared for the challenging exams.

I think Professor Furuto is a great teacher that really cares about the students succeeding. He always leaves his doors open. He explains math in the most uncomplicated way possible and answers questions whenever we have any. He creates a great work and learning environment.

This course was difficult, but I really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere and how the pace of the class is just right.
It was difficult but I actually enjoyed being in class.
Wonderful! Iʻm glad to have taken this course, and with him as the professor, Iʻd gladly take it again. The content is very complex, but itʻs also a very fun class.
This is a difficult course that requires a lot of practice in addition to understanding the concepts. But it is not an impossible course to do well in just as long as you do as much problems as you can before it's time for the exam. And doing the study guide problems help prepare you for the types of questions that may be on the exam, since they're worded the same way and has the same difficulty level as the actual exam questions.

A good class, but difficult to keep up in.
This course was one of my most difficult course I've ever taken, however I still enjoyed it and i was able to understand more in calculus
