2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
This course helped to reinforce ideas and themes from my other literature classes.
It really opened my eyes to analyze things such as novels and films much more deeper. So I feel that it will help me by looking at things with different perspectives. Also to have a closer eye on things, pay attention to detail.
I loved this class. It filled a WI and upper humanities requirement, but other than that had nothing to do with my degree. I enjoyed going to class and discussing the course material.
Not a requirement

5. Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
The activities and resources were adequate.
The resources for this class were very hard to find. We had to get Netflix on our own and find movies on our own. It would have been better if the resources were provided for us much easier.
Some of the movies and text required for the course were difficult to get ahold of, maybe make all videos available through laulima?
Activities or resources did not help much.

16. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
A streamlining of course texts with the films would make the class easier to manage. A stronger tie between film techniques and themes in the materials would be beneficial.
Just make sure the course material is easy available. Don't rely on Netflix. Post the movies on laulima instead.
Should limit the amount of books required in class. I think, 2-3 books is enough considering that there are too much films to watch also with netflix subscription and are also required to purchase DVDs. Just too much money spent in this class.
The analysis of the films for this course is extremely time consuming requiring at times the need to watch the movie and/or scenes for analysis more than once. If the movie is 3 hours long the analysis ends up adding up to a full work day (or more). Not to mention the difficulty in tracking down access to view the movies. Netflix was factored into the cost of materials but not all of the movies required for the course were accessible through Netflix which was stressful and another issue with time management to locate them and at times an additional cost. To require the number of film analysis' with the novels that were expected to be read was a bit excessive, especially when factoring the students other classes and personal obligations into the equation.
17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Professor Kilpatrick is passionate and knowledgeable about what she is teaching. She treats the material with cultural sensitivity and understanding.
that she is a great professor and very passionate about this subject. Very knowledgeable and she is very helpful also understanding.
Great teacher! She has a passion for the subject matter and makes the classes interesting. She always encouraged the students to participate and kept things lighthearted.
She needs to be more considerate with the students financial needs and time.
Brilliant with a lot to offer.

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
The course was effective in working with the themes and ideas, but the course materials were a bit problematic to manage.
that this is a very interesting course. Although there was a lot of reading and writing, it is worth it. I found it interesting and I learned a lot. The professor is very helpful
Loved it, I have recommended it to many of my other classmates.
Not so clear and effective.
difficult and fascinating, extremely time consuming which detracted from the overall enjoyment of the course.
21. Other comments:
I enjoyed the course and the material, but the focus felt stretched between the films and texts.
I wish I didn't miss a lot of class due to my personal issues. Other than that, this was a great course.
Gain access to the films before the semester ends to that links to view them may be provided to the students so that there is less stress in gaining access to them. The expense of obtaining a Netflix membership maybe a hardship for students despite the perceived low membership cost.

2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
I really enjoyed discussing the importance of performing Shakespeare in the folio versions. It helped me understand how important it is to read what the author wrote, not what you expect to see. Literature can be construed quite easily, and this class helped me to analyze the importance of using literature in the way the author intended. Shakespeare's works were relevant for his time period, and were written for actors. To truly understand his works they should be performed.
It was a requirement, but persoanlly, the course taught me to remember that Shakespeare is meant to be played, not read, and that we shouldn't always impose modern understanding onto his texts--that we must also delve deep into the historical context in order to see the real gems in his work.
It has helped me to analyze works of authors and how to act out parts in plays. Learning stage presence is always helpful for any life aspect as it promotes social abilities and helps students in the way they present their ideas to the world.

I would benefit from discussing more of the play in detail. I have a difficult time reading Shakespeare, and so I would feel more comfortable about the plays if I had more time discussing more of the scenes in class.
A syllabus that actually showed the course content, assignments, dates and information that the semester would follow.
I understand why she chose to only look at three plays, but if there were a way to do more analasys, it would have been more effective. Maybe one more writing assignment or more scripting assignments.
Clearer instruction of course and project requirements could help, also information in advance for presentations.

coherent syllabus answers to questions that actually answer the question asked graded papers with comments returned in a timely manner (1st grades came in week 10 of course) graded papers that are returned with comments (still don't have returned papers from 1st group presentation) graded quizzes that have comments on what was missed and why ample time to do assignments without constant changes to syllabus ample time to do assignments without constant changes to assignments
There were a lot of times when assignments were unclear and her instructions kept changing. Also, I felt that I didn't get nearly as much out of her in class lectures as I got from the two books she assigned. Maybe if there was more out of class reading and more in class interaction--not just doing scenes but maybe actually discussing things, it would have been more worthwhile.
17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
It appears that she has been out of the classroom for quite some time.
She knows her field and is passionate about it, but there was a lot that I felt was missing in the way she taught the information in class. She tries to engage us, but she lost me after the second class. It might have been because of the way she would deliver assignements/expectations for them, which was unclear and very last minute. I guess that kind of turned me off and also, I got so much out of the book, I wanted more, and she wasn't giving me more--just rehashing.

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Interesting approach, but I wish more was taught and we had more activities. She has good ideas, but they don't often come through clearly.
21. Other comments:
I think she said she was coming back to teaching after a hiatus, so maybe that was part of it.
