7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The course had a regular schedule which made it easy to follow, and the homework, though time consuming, made character recognition easier.
- I love how zhou laoshi is so enthusiastic and optimistic! - In class, she is always happy and never complains about being tired or anything along that thought - Lessons are interactive
Having her go over the grammar in detail in the classroom.
The conversations
How she picked on every student in class to answer a question during every class because it kept my classmates and I on our toes and focused in class.
I found everything in this class valuable.
Grammar and present day colloquial examples provided by the instructor. I feel like I can construct more complicated sentences now. And the colloquial isn't something that can be learned from books.
I found the speaking activities most valuable although I like that day the least. But I can see myself progressing lesson after lesson, and the activities made me talk more with other classmates.
Character work and grammar usage
the speaking and making the script and with each test or homework i do i learn more words and how to read them.
When learning a foreign language, I think that every element is equally valuable, from vocabulary to grammar and writing, speaking, reading, and listening.
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I thought the way group work was determined was not very organized, for I would have partners who did not/could not contact me outside of class.
Not much.. If anything.. maybe the homework load?
None
Nothing
The writing assignments sometimes took so painfully long to complete that I occasionally ended up throwing something simple down in order to finish, or just giving up and not finishing.

Very happy that I decided to take the 7:30 class!
I'm going to miss her as my chinese professor
One of the most energetic and enthusiastic instructors I've ever had. Excellent in all areas! As far as course material, I would have preferred a little more emphasis on 'real world' listening and reading. I feel like Chinese people encountered outside of school can be very difficult to understand, even when they're saying something simple. The same for written material. Ads, magazines, signs, and other written things are written very differently than the conversational reading we were doing in class. The book did provide one or two paper clippings or ads in ever lesson. And the instructors provided examples when she could. But I would have preferred more emphasis on these, in order to feel more prepared for what I'll encounter in the outside world.
I really like this class. I personally know how much I have been better and better in Chinese from the beginning of the semester. I'm more confident in speaking and writing now. I think it would be better with some more easy readings source available. I like to read but am not really fond of the textbook reading.

Zhou Laoshi is really a great instructor. She is very patient when dealing with mistakes and will take time to clarify any questions that the students may have. She also has a sense of humor and likes to have fun with Chinese, which makes the class even better.

7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The daily exercises in class that allow for practice of the new concepts
The amount of resources available to us (office hours, language lab, etc.), speaking in class, the translation activities.
Love the pezis, the structure, grading system and different assignments.
Reviews
Having a professor who is knowledgeable and passionate about teaching.
She spent a lot of time preparing for class, and having material for us to use
We always work on the translate dialog and textbook with our partners, so that makes everyone feels more comfortable to talk to each other and made the class mood better.
Grammar
She let everyone speak everyday. It was good practicing.
I enjoyed the interaction with the other students in the roleplays and exercises we did to demonstrate our understanding.
Going through the dialogue and translating them. Reading the short stories that Jing Zhou posted for her powerpoints. It really helps with the reading aspect of Chinese. Even though its hard to translate or hard to read it doesn't matter because she would help you no matter what.
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The text of each lesson.
n/a
Character work book
None
maybe the character workbook
Probably some of the workbook assignments, I feel like it was just busywork
It was really short and fast, so we had to study everyday and had to memorize all the new words. Sometimes it was good to progress out language level, but sometime we just keep forget new words. However, this is summer session. I think this whole class did really good job.

Great level of intensity
Zhou Laoshi teaches very well. She answers questions and is patient with the students!
I think giving us the important vocab words to know made it a lot easier for us to study for quizzes, but it made me lazier and less willing to study the non-important vocab. Possibly make future students learn all the vocab in the lesson.

I really like this class, professor and class mates. Everything went really fast and getting harder and harder at the last few weeks. Sometimes it was little bit stressful to studying for tests for everyday till late night. But it helped to develop of my Chinese level. After done this class, I should keep studying and keep this language level. Thank you laoshi!

She became one of my favorite instructors! Thank you!
Zhou Laoshi is an EXCELLENT instructor!!! Although this Summer course was an intensive one and we were on a strict timeline, she was well-prepared and organized for each class and ensured that all of us were involved and engaged daily. Her PREZI presentations were very helpful because they supplemented the textbook and workbook and could easily be accessed from home at anytime, so we could study at our leisure. There were several times when I needed additional help, and she was very accomodating in scheduling appt times for me to receive extra help. Zhou Laoshi has a very positive and energetic personality, and I really enjoyed learning from her. I look forward to being her student again in the future!
Great job in teaching and answering question best to your knowledge.

I couldn't think of any...
The course covers the typical structural aspects of the different essays, the author's voice for each section and how to find the main points.
writing
i liked that the professor followed a predictable lesson plan so it was easy to remember when everything was due without even looking at the syllabus
The reading are interesting.
It increased my chances of writing in different topics.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
None.
stupid questions about the reading
we were required to comment on other students essays in this course. The teacher said that to recieve full points we had to make 5 comments. I think this is the wrong way to go about it. Most students made comments but they were comments that were not helpful to the writer, like, "I think the ideas inyour essay are interesting" or "I agree with your point of view". I feel it would be better to have a more in depth review of one or two essays perhaps with a character limit of 50+characters. Also until recently I did not know we only recieved full points for 5 comments. I thought it was 3.
There is too much work in this class. I don't think we have enough time to turn in our first essay in Wednesdays. In our essay, I don't think this professor provide enough feedback to me. Also, I make correction according her feedback, I still can't get a perfect score. I tried hard too write well for every essay, but the final scores are not my expectation.

Even though the professor's feedback already good enough, but for some students it would be very helpful and nice if the professor can provide suggestions as how to change the essays in addition to grammar/vocabulary corrections. Also, it might help if some of the instructions, deadlines and grading system was and standardized from the beginning instead of changing it near the end of the semester. In addition, the professor should have more forum based discussions about each topic/section because for some students, they might not be familiar with certain topics making it difficult for them to write essays for certain sections.
She didn't reply email until I send it to her two or three times. And in unit 2, she send me a wrong mail and make me confused, but she didn't reply my mail until I go to her office. Then, even she tell me that she send a wrong mail to me, but it's still make me turning in a late assignment and she still gave me a poor point and it's her responsibility for it. Also she has poor responsibility and basic teacher's ethics. If she can be a Chinese teacher in UH, I think that every people who come from China that can be a teacher too.
