13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is extremely knowledgeable in microbiology and I feel lucky to have him at KCC.
He has a lot of back-round with microbiology so it was always interesting to hear his real-life applications of the subject. For a lot of other classes its hard to find a real-life application which makes the subject seem moot and makes the class harder to stay focused in (at least for me). I'm glad this wasn't the case for his micro because there was a TON of information to try to make sense of.
Very good teacher. He knows his subject area very well.
Thoroughly goes over the material and adds in personal experiences or current issues related to the topics.
Knows subject matter well and gives good, relevant examples of what he is teaching or presenting.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
Needs to incorporate more audio/visuals in his teaching. Powerpoint can be somewhat boring to some extent. I didn't like exam 3 (open book exam) ... we are paying $$$money$$$ to learn the material from a professor in addition to reading the textbook, not just read the chapters on our own without going over it in class. If the rest of the course was just read on our own, I would've demanded my money back and just bought the text book and do self study on my own.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Aside from being clear about what was expected of us through out the the course, he was also sympathetic to the difficulty some might have with the quantity and quality of the subject matter. It felt like as long as the student put in an honest effort, they could expect at least a reasonable grade.
Constantly reminding students about reading, and understanding what was being presented in class. Always available for questions.
Many opportunities to bring up your grade. Also went over the class averages as the semester progressed.
Emailed response promptly.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, for the reason stated above. Some classes the student will work hard but still not be able to earn a grade to reflect it. Chad Walton is not one of those professors. He will meet the student in the middle, as long as that student works hard.
Sure thing!
I definitely would. This is my second time taking Microbiology and the way he taught the material was clearer than when I had taken it from somebody else.
Yes, because he is very nice and patient and knows his subject well.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Very intelligent in his subject area. Ask him any questions about it and he'll know the answer for most, if not, all of it.
He is prompt and well dressed.
