12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
everything.
The fact that Angel not only let us do readings as assignments but also showed/required us to watch various videos and documentaries. It kept the class interesting. And also, his friendly, easy going personality makes it easy to approach him about any questions or difficulties that came up during the course.
Writing the reaction paper. I enjoyed that.
It was very eye opening to see how many of the problems in our society are interconnected. I think it is a good course because it exposed me to problems that I often never think about; it broadened my understanding of how society interacts and why certain problems occur and persist.
The course helped me realized myself as a person, who definitely has influence on society and issues.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

I think that Angel is/was a little too nice with our class, throughout the course he didn't rely on picking on students to talk about certain readings which left a lot of room for students who did not choose to speak to slide by.. some took advantage of his kindness. As his one of his students, it was very embarrassing for me to see an Honors class be frequently filled with silence during discussions. Angel should have the students talk more, maybe for a part of a participation grade, or to frequently test that his future students are engaged.
All the weekly readings.
In the second half of the semester, we covered so many different topics very quickly. It was a little jarring to be switching from topic to topic each week. I thought studying fewer topics in great depth was more effective; for example, spending 3 weeks on race and gender really highlighted the important information and helped me fully understand the topics and issues.

More group activities so students can get to know each other and network within the small class. Somehow test his students during lecture to make sure they are engaged and are familiar in terms of what he is talking about.
Be a little less bias towards certain people. I can tell there is favoritism in this class. I know there are some students that talk more than others, but I can tell by his reaction to some students responses that he looks down on them. If there are two students raising their hands, he would choose the a certain student over the other.
There was a lot of reading and it was difficult to keep up with it! I think it would be helpful to give us an idea of how we are doing in this class through Laulima or an email.

I really apologize for the disappointment our Honors class caused you this semester, and I hope Angel knows that he is an excellent professor that is both inspiring and relatable. He makes sociology more interesting than it already is and I hope to take his Pop Culture 400 level class in the near future! :)

I can't watch anything with a sense of naivety anymore
I think Angel's perspective as a conflict theorist made this class way better than I expected. Instead of exploring popular culture with its glitz and glamour, I was really challenged to look at how I engage with popular culture and how that impacts the world.
Learning more about the behind the scenes and other side of popular culture.
The lectures
All of them
I enjoyed our group discussion the most. It was interesting to hear the opinions held by my fellow classmates concerning the subject matter.
Angel was extremely knowledgeable and very opinionated but would always tell us to take everything, even what he presented to us, with a grain of salt which made the whole class better sociologists in my opinion. I think he's the best sociology professor on staff. He presents us with information the way it is and not sugar coated which is very refreshing.

Best and most interesting professor I've ever had. Teaches with passion and knows what he's saying... I love it. So refreshing.
Overall, I enjoyed the course. It requires a lot of work from the student and requires that the student keep up with said work. This course involved many controversial ideas and I think he did a good job of being considerate to every students idea and opinion. I would suggest this class to all Sociology majors or minors.
He knew just about everything even when students would present him with questions not in his presentations. A lot of the time he would help the class work through the answer requesting that a couple people would answer before he gave his opinion as well as multiple other popular opinions. Easily my favorite and most informative Sociology class I have and will ever take at UH. Angel is the best Sociology professor you have on staff.
