14. Any comments about the TA?
He was very helpful
was very helpful and graded things in a timely manner
Awesome!
The TA is equally knowledgeable with the subject, and he is very helpful when the instructor is unavailable.
Kyle was attentive and engaging. I enjoyed having him as a TA. This was my first class having a TA.
TA Kyle Kajihiro is a fantastic professor and I had a great time learning under him and professor Williams this semester.
Kyle is really easy to talk to and really cool!
He's a nice guy. Somewhat boring, though.
I liked Kyle. He was very optimistic and kind.
He's like the Jill Williams, he's nice but that's all I know about him since I don't talk to him that much
Great TA, had a lot of knowledge to share.
The TA was very helpful in providing assistance and engaging in discussions. I think that's one good thing about the TA in this class. In my other classes, the TA's don't really have anything to add in the lectures. The TA was always easy to communicate with.
as a student himself, he is a very nice guy for taking his time with helping me and my classmates out with either questions, reviews, or just helping the professor grade our work. he also offers good information related to the lectures in class
He didn't say much or was not as involved with the teaching as much as my other ta s but he was good and knew what he was doing when he did speak
TA was helpful and attentive
okay, but rather boring when doing presentations, but graded assignments promptly and well.
I enjoyed when he lectured and hearing how knowledgable he was about Hawaii's history.
Keith was very knowledgable on the subjects. Just wished we could get our assignments and tests back sooner.
He is very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable about geography.

21. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The class discussions
Almost everything I learned in this course was new. I liked all the extra credit opportunities because a lot of us really needed it.
It made me more interested in the concept of geography. I'd love to take another geography course again!
First, the PowerPoint lectures and the corresponding practice study guides are very helpful. Second, the exams are structures similar to the study guide where I feel comfortable with the tested subjects. Third, the wide selection of choices for required material are helpful because the subject options cater to my field of interest.
Everything.
All. It helped me to understand a lot about Human Geography...It's actually a lot tol learn about.
the field trip to the Hawaiian place was really interested.
I enjoyed all the short video clips and movies that were shown.
Going on the trip to actually hands-on learn about what we're doing in class. Fun experience.
Looking at different thematic maps and listening to lectures, they were all very interesting.
I liked how we learned about the contemporary issues in the world. I also enjoyed watching very interesting documentaries about issues such as racial discrimination, poverty, militarization, and so many more.
the small group sessions were fun, i actually made friends in class which is a very rare thing for me to be thinking about during my years in college.
Going to the Loi and videos
I liked the videos, it helped to bring the subject matter alive.
i enjoyed the lectures and teacher and her style of teaching. the material was interesting most of the time
I love videos she shows
The Popular Culture Assignnments
I enjoyed watching the videos that gave real world examples and perspective. I also liked the practice tests, they were helpful and accurate to the actual exam.
I liked the knowledge that Jill brought to the classroom. She showed her passion of the subject in every lecture. I would recommend this class to anyone that needs to take a global credit.
I liked writing the current event papers. There were many topics we could chose from.
Learned how geography ties everything together
I liked the global approach taken in teaching this course. I liked the supplemental materials besides the required textbooks, such as YouTube videos, newspaper articles, radio news (NPR), and extra credit assignments that were directly related to course concepts.
Movies
22. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
The current events
The assignments handed out in class were not always online.
Lectures were often boring and hard to stay awake and focused.
the field trip. Its unreasonable to expect students to be able to make it to a field trip.
Talking about modern issues that are related closely to us in everyday life.
Other than the course time having been in the late afternoon, there are no aspects that have been disliked.
Nothing.

At times, I did not like the lectures because, at times, the concepts were hard to grasp.
Straight-up lecture. I mean it's fun when she's engages us in the lecture but not all the time
The first group project.
Honestly, there was nothing I did not like about the class. I felt like I really learned alot from the class.
it is a nice gesture to print out and hand out practice tests for each chapter, but i guess uploading them would have been nice, or at least getting a list of students interested, because of all the paper used. but i also agree that just posting it on laulima would be a bad idea since less students would show up
PowerPoint lectures and homework

the time. i wish it was offered throughout the day instead of in the afternoon
There was nothing I disliked about the course.
At times I thought that the written assignments should have been posted sooner. Posting them on Monday before they are due made it hard to get them done when you already have a week full of exams. If they were posted a week earlier I feel it could help students plan their week better during busy exam times.
I didn't like the take home assignments where we had to watch long, boring videos.
Nothing, i liked the course greatly as a whole.
This was a large lecture class, that I do not prefer, but the material covered was sufficient. As with any large class I take, I suggest there be an additional smaller learning group that meet at least one or twice per week to review concepts; preference given to prior meeting in large class so there is heavier reapplying of knowledge.
23. Other comments:
Lot of material for the course.
Spoke too fast to take notes on. I could not keep up with the speed of your talking. A lot of what you said I found very important but I could never take down notes without missing everything being said after! Give us time to at least take notes on what your saying!
Great class!
Jill was a great instructor. She kept the course material interesting. I appreciated her utilizing present-day scenarios to help us understand terms and concepts. Her lively personality allowed for students to enjoy the material and engage in conversation. I hope to have more instructors like her.
Great course! Very engaging and interesting! Highly recommend other students to take it!

Overall, I thought she was a great teacher that was understanding and charismatic.
She's cool.
Great teacher, who has alot of knowledge to share and explains concepts very well by relating them to current events.
you are a cool professor, since you can joke and take your job seriously at the same time. i may not approach you or meet your expectations as a student, but you are still one of my more favored professors in the school
Good course, learned a lot, thank you.
good course overrall :)
Overall, I think the class was alright.
Great course
A study guide might be more helpful to students to study for the exams instead of just practice tests.
Jill Williams is extremely passionate about her research and field and wants every students to have such knowledge and be able to think critically and reflect about not only local and global issues, but the interconnectivity between local and global issues which affects every one. I've taken liking in learning about, as with other students, our position in greater society and how larger social, political, economic, and cultural factors all come together which affect every one in unique ways. I highly suggest that instructors create and develop his/her own test banks and daily quizzes, that can be either distributed as hard copy in class or through cybereducation via laulima, where learning is more continuous. Having just two exams, one midterm and one final, does not equate to bridging concepts together and creates stagnation in learning.

15. Other comments:
Great course
She was awesome. Was able to be easy going, yet not too lax. She was able to direct class conversation, especially when it got off topic and address student questions as best as possible. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in social sciences. This was my favorite class this semester.
Jill is a very good instructor. She is passionate about the material, and enjoys having discussions in class. I did think at some points discussions could get a little out of hand. I realize she was just trying to give everyone their say, but some people tended to abuse their speaking privileges. Again, great class, favorite this semester by far.
I think that she is a great teacher who has students actively participate in this class, thus forcing us to learn (in a good way). I enjoy her teaching methods and I fill like I've learned a lot.
I found Jill to be extremely helpful, open and friendly. She is genuinely interested in students and helping their progress. She lead discussions really well, providing alternative perspectives and challenging peoples thoughts. I don't think anyone in the class would have a bad word about her (or anyone who's ever met her in that matter).. I found the class content very interesting, and I certainly learnt a lot. I really appreciated the way the major assignment was broken off into individual sections. I liked the weekly homework on the readings - it insured I actually did them! And I was always glad I did.
The course materials were very interesting and everyone in class seemed engaged and enthusiastic during class discussion. I learned a lot and enjoyed the course very much. Professor Williams was a great professor. She was very knowledgeable, helpful, approachable, and enthusiastic. This class was probably the first class I felt completely comfortable speaking up (I think the ice breaker really helped), and I learned a lot about interesting global issues. I would recommend this class to my friends.
I was timed out from a detailed explanation. So here is a blunt version. 1) Students are ends in and of themselves 2) Textbook I recommend. Feminist Geopolitics: At the Sharp End [Hardcover] Deborah P. Dixon (Editor), Sallie A. Marston (Editor) 3) Adapt to your new environment. 4) I love you Jill. Problem is 10 years of being a University student produces a practicing functionalist. 10 years of self validation, earning credentials, and taking in other people's projections. 10 years of social reproduction. Unschool some things from yourself. You are a professor now, you need to turn your EQ on. 5) Stop trying to assimilate students, that is the old way. Students have their own goals, have their own culture, and have their own needs. Instead focus on making students more aware so that they can make more aware decisions. 6) Be more compassionate. 7) All the authors to the readings were from white ladies, with the exception of one white man. Please integrate more variety in authors for weekly readings. 8) Be more aware of contemporary views. Most people are skeptical of government institutions and the media. Surveys prove this. Pardon me for viewing the UN as an extension of cultural imperialism. 9) Recognize that Hawaii has its own forms of resistance against US hegemony. Recognize what these things are and where to find it in our culture. Brown people are not stupid, they are just not white and we resist assimilation in their own way. 10) Be more encouraging. Students are agents capable of change. I choose not to write formally for you. The class was informal and everything about it was partial to one particular view or another, there was not much in terms of consistency. I respond to emotional arguments emotionally. Also when I use the word "they" I am referring to the last entity I was speaking about. I prefer to put my voice in my writing, because I am strait forward and direct. I am not sure how you misinterpreted me. I also felt discriminated against all semester. Ultimately I gave up on trying to change your perception, this is my last attempt. I protested you out of moral obligation and I tried to be very nice and polite about it because it was your audition or pitch for a research project. I do not believe you can be a feminist and be this way. It is very hurtful and I am very emotional.
I feel like the coursework was too heavy at times considering that I also had other challenging upper level classes, however Jill is a good teacher. I do wish there was less reading and writing and more interactive lessons. I felt like this class should been writing intensive
