13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She'll 'attempt' to help students if they need help.
First time taking online classes it wasnt that bad. Her strenght was being AVAILABLE to the students. A+ for her :)
She has a reasonable nature, and will find ways to help her students succeed.
She knows the subject matter and also demonstrated concerns for the students by reaching out almost weekly to check our progress in the class.
She is VERY caring. She goes above and beyond to help a student. She is understanding, patient and works really hard to help you. There are so many resources that she provides for you. If you get a bad grade from this course, it's because you don't do the homework or don't view her lectures/power points. She works really hard on preparing the power point materials and if you don't review them, you won't know the material. She is so accommodating and truly cares about each student and each student's education. She is a pleasant lady who devotes a lot of time to teaching this course.
Ablity to handle situations as they occur.
She is very organized with having the assignments/modules posted in a timely manner. She also has a variety of ways of teaching the assignment through slideshows, recorded lectures, etc.
-offers extra help to students and explain each chapter clearly and easy to understand the content of each chapters
Elizabeth made herself accessible to the students. I personally felt that she genuinely cared about my success in the class and went above and beyond to help me with my work. She was also understanding of my unique situation as a professional student with a full time job.
there was a lot of discussions open and online sessions held
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
She was very flighty. I went to a review session for two hours and most of the two hours spent was her going off in tangents completely unrelated to the course material. So she should appear to have a more definitive plan in teaching.
She needs to be more detailed and clear on the assignments. At first it wasn't clear enough so students were getting confused and falling behind. Also stop with the massive emails. I get about 10-15 emails a week from her its a lot to read. She should just put ONE bulleting with all the information on it. Assignments, test, announcements and let the students log in and ready that daily instead of spamming out the inboxes. Some emails get lost in there because there are SOOOO many!
Spend more time on journal entries, and maybe provide a list of frequent journal entries used. Also, explain more about GE tax vs sales tax.
Perhaps less lecture, I think maybe if this course was offered face to face it would have been easier for me to understand. Maybe if the syllabus was longer, then we would have less announcements in Laulima. I was getting confused at all the announcements because I think our class fell behind.
Sometimes it seems she is too lenient on student's situations. But this is just according to part of the story that I encounter. I don't hear the whole story, so I really don't know. For example, seemed as if some student's didn't have access to the textbook. This is a college course, all students should purchase a textbook. This course is an online course, if some student does not have access to a computer, they should find a way to do all their assignments and if they can't find a way, they shouldn't be taking a course that is solely online. I feel this instructor works hard enough as it is preparing lectures, study groups, pre-tests, retests, researches resources for students relating to their business, and other things to have to worry about a grown college student who either didn't purchase the text or doesn't have access to a computer. I can understand the problem some students faced having difficulty with a Mac and Quickbooks, this couldn't have been foreseen.
none
The course, in and of itself, unfortunately was not very helpful. Quickbooks seemed to be the most important aspect of the course however, Quickbooks is pretty intuitive. I really need an accounting that focused on accounting principles as it applies specifically to a start up business or business in general.
this course was slightly unorganized and difficult to understand and times because the way the book was presented
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She'll 'attempt' to help students if they need help.
She lets them know where they stand and tries to help them expand their learning.
She provide deadline extensions as well as hold review sessions, and listens to her students.
She is available through her office hours and Elluminate, although I know for a fact she spent a lot of time on Laulima when I was on during off hours. She also responded to email quickly.
She has always been there for me. She helps me with the content of the material if I didn't understand something. She has numerous office hours on campus and online. She gives out her personal cell phone to call her with questions. She gets back to you through emails. She is available through elluminate to help you. She is patient and her character is so caring that I personally feel she takes on too much to help her students. Although this is an online class, her concern for her students really shines through.
She updates them on how their grades are going and offers to meet with them on campus, on phone or chat online.
-send out reminder for exams, homeworks offer extra help before exams
Made herself available for consultation on a regular basis.
many online meetings and ways to reach her regarding questions
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
No, I would not recommend her. It could be that the online format of the course was not her strong suit. She may be knowledgeable with appropriate field experience, but she fails to share that with her students.
Yes she is a great teacher that showes concern for her students when they're not doing as good.
Yes, she is very caring and helpful and patient. But you as a student need to meet her half way, do your homework, read the material.
Yes, fair and clear instruction
Yes, to those who are pursuing a Ent or Business degree.
yes, it is a fun class
I would recommend Elizabeth, however I would not recommend the course to others, unless they want to obtain the Entrepreneur Certificate.
yes but seemed slightly unorganized - multiple occassions i had droped an assingment to the inbox and she didnt receive it. sometimes my questions regarding the text was not answered
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I didn't feel like I was being taught by a college professor. It felt more like an elementary school teacher. It bothered me a lot not visually seeing my teacher. It was like a stranger was talking to me. I can email professors and not care about visually seeing them, but it really bothered me when she did lectures or addressed me in Elluminate and I didn't know her. To me, the classroom between student and teacher should be a very personal intimate experience. If it wasn't then schools with physical campuses would be abolished. There'd be no need for them if we could go to school online. The lack of intimacy in her virtual classroom made me distrust her. I really disliked her for that.
thanks for a great semester. I am not afraid to take online classes now if all the teachers are like you! :) :) :) thank you
I think she can be a very good teacher if the course competencies were a little more aligned with the overall ENT program.
She's cute and funny, it's fun to watch her lectures. It's like she's talking to you and she's actually talking to herself for you to hear later on the recorded lecture. It's funny to me because I do the same thing!

21. What did you like most about your online course experience?
Nothing. I have taken an online course through another university that was more structured and organized. This Elluminate classroom seemed like it was not utilized to its fullest potential most likely because it's a new program to certain professors. The professor constantly sent announcements, assignments, polls, and such so often it was very unorganized.
There was a lot of work but the teach gave you extra time if you needed to finish the work.
I can pace myself.
I liked it because all the resources were online.
The convenience. I live far from KCC.
The flexibility
-flexible
being able to do assignments when i had the chance
22. What did you like least about your online course experience?
See above.
The overload of work. Maybe if we had 2 deadlines for ONE chapter it would have been easier. Example chapter 1 due on wed and the extra handouts due sunday. It all works out though.
Need to research more information outside for whatever the book and instructor did not cover.
There were many announcements.
I like to ask questions. I like having a classroom sitdown experience. I like getting to know the teacher and students. I like seeing things hands on. I prefer a traditional class. Online courses, there are so much more technical stuff that I have to figure out on my own, vs if I was in a class with computers, I could just raise my hand, ask and have an answer in seconds.
No being able to ask right away and get a response right away when I didn't understand something.
none
Everything was everywhere. There are too many places where information can be posted that it becomes confusing and almost impossible to navigate on a regular basis. This type of online class ends up taking up more time and resource than a regular in-person class.
very hard to get the hang of at first, many problems regarding files that were needed for assignments.
23. Other comments:
N/A
I felt that there was a strong disconnect between the course expectation of learning "Basic Finance and Accounting"(as shown on the course catalog) for what would be the best scenario, your own business, and to what we were presented on the syllabus course competencies, which seemed to revolve around learning Quickbooks. Most of the other comments I have heard were that there was no notation that you would have to have a PC version (since it works best). Although perhaps the competencies could be changed to reflect a better understanding of Finance and Accounting in general versus relying heavily on the Quickbooks reference book. Or at least what sort of accounting we might run into if we have our own business, or at least maybe look at economics, finance, and accounting in this class. I think we all tried to make the situation the best of what it could be. Although I might have learned Quickbooks, I think more accounting/finance even perhaps P&L or forecasting unit could have been emphasized more to create a more complete and aligned strategy for the ENT program. I also thought maybe the business plan writing class could be last, with Marketing taken first, this second, and the plan class as the final capstone.
Don't take this course if you think it's an easy cruise course. It is easy, but it's time consuming, to succeed in this course, you need to do all the text chapters (not only the exercises in the end of the chapter that are assigned) and watch her lectures.
