Clark Ratliffe seemed like a friendly, laid back professor
I learned a lot when Dr Vogler thoroughly discussed how to write our part 2 and how to use tentative words. Enjoyed the layout for the first quiz.

Everything I really enjoyed this quality management project.

Going through the process of a QM project. However, this should be conducted over 1-2 class periods... NOT 5-6 classes. Valuable: Clark Ratliffe. What a charming, pleasant individual. He will be dearly missed. He has the ability to bring out the best from every student and doesn't sugar-coat the political bologna we have to complete in the course.

The powerpoints were helpful.
Instructor was good.
I liked how Clark was able to tailor the classes to what was going on during that day in class. If he felt that we needed time in our groups rather than sitting for a lecture, he changed around the class so accommodate that. I also thought it was helpful that we went over different aspects of the QM project in class so we would have a better idea of what we were doing.

Nothing. I mostly used my time in class to look at facebook and chat with my friends.

This course taught us how to conduct a quality management project.
I like the Quality Management project implemented into the class. It helps develop our professionalism as a nurse.
I am more aware of what a QM project entails. It provides me an small insight if i should want to pursue more education.
Good explanation and powerpoint presentations of the research process and the importance of quality management by instructor.
Learning how to do a quality management paper and the importance of improving the unit.
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
We have written so many papers before that I felt that this class was a waste of time. There is no reason to make us sit through a class about paper writing in our sixth semester. Plus, we already took Nursing Research. I wish we were studying for NCLEX instead!!!!! This entire semester had nothing to do with nursing knowledge!
My clinical instructor was difficult, to say the least.
I did not like the minimum amount of topics discussed after the first quiz and having a final on this information.
The limited time to perform a QM project, the running-around-in-circles waiting for our projects to be approved by the agencies and subsequently losing 4-5 weeks of data collection waiting for approval.
When Joyce Vogler talked about grammar during class - and then sent a class email a month later riddled with grammatical errors.
The QM project takes up the entire semester and it isnt very helpful.
The QM process seemed prolonged and over emphasized for the time and resources students had for the course
The midterm and final exams seemed least valuable.
The building was too far away to make it worth coming to class.
I did not enjoy the lecture regarding the example paper from another one of the clinical faculty. While I thought it was great that we were being given an example of what is expected, we went over a lot of things that were nit-picky and unnecessary in large lecture.

The course topics mostly covered how to write a paper and carry out this project. We learned nothing about complex nursing, all we learned was how to write a paper. I got place in a clinic for my complex when I requested an ICU or an ER. I think I may have even requested a pediatric floor. This class is intended to be an opportunity for us to gain exposure to a floor we may want to work at. It is to broaden our horizon to find out if that floor is the type of work I may want to do some day. It is also a place to gain exposure to the workforce and aid our job search. I got placed in a clinic where many nurses go to retire and a location where they do not hire new graduates into a nursing job. This clinical location did not do anything for my nursing career especially for my immediate new grad hopes. My days were spent sitting in a nurse's office triageing patient's mostly with back pain, many of whom we could not help as their medications had run out or the MD had only ordered a specific dose. I feel like I missed out on so much I could have learned, even on a medsurge floor. Please don't ever put a 6th semester student in this location unless they specifically request it. Let this semester be a time of learning and time of exposure to the workforce in the hopes of gaining employment.

I loved Professor Ratliffe, he's a great teacher.
Clark will be greatly missed next semester as he is a very approachable and great professor. He knows his stuff and is there for his students whenever they need them.
strengths: the instructor is very flexible, gives good suggestions and recommndations to improved student clinical goals weakness: does not follow much of student progress
APA formatting is the biggest joke on the planet. Why should APA formatting be worth 10% of my final paper? I will opt out of even caring and take the 10% loss out of sheer principle that learning APA formatting is moronic. The egotistical maniacs, AKA governing body of APA, makes drastic changes every darn year or so. I will not be a better nurse by knowing this. Nurses send their papers to people to do APA formatting for them. This course should include a day of why QM projects are important and how they changed the course of a particular agency. I don't want to hear a story or two. I want real evidence. I want to see the presentation or hear it from the student (alumni) themselves.

The QM process is an important topic for students to be involved in. But I thought the project had too much emphasis upon it. I feel the time would be more worthwhile if it was spent upon NCLEX prep, Job finding tactics, and post graduate topics to prep students after graduation.

I thought Clark was a great instructor for Complex. I felt that he was very helpful and a great resource for the QM project. He seemed very approachable as well. I enjoyed that he was able to change lectures based on student's needs. I also really enjoyed his calm, relaxed attitude when lecturing and talking to the class.
Please don't ever place 6th semester students at the VA unless they specifically requested the VA or community. I feel like I lost out on so many opportunities to see and experience life on a real nursing floor. This placement stunted my job opportunities as they do not hire new graduates and did nothing for my resume. Even as a community location, due to the fact that everyone needs an appointment, it's not even a good community location.
This course was much more informative than I first thought. It was evident the instructor is knowledgeable of complex nursing and was able to convey the importance of doing such projects in the hospitals we were working.
