I absolutely loved this class! The freedom we were given with our presentations was ideal, and really allowed me to explore my interests. Dr. Hatfield is an amazing professor and always has the most interesting information regarding the different topics we discussed in class. I also loved the class discussions that we had with Dr. Rapson's class, they were so intriguing! This is probably one of the best classes I have taken at UH. I enjoyed taking her class, she always had amazing input in our projects and was always willing to help us out with finding appropriate information as well. Awesome class. Loved this class!! I LOVE Dr Hatfield's class and am sad that we can't repeat it for credit! She's really nice and approachable, and I feel it completed the course goals of teaching kids to take initiative and do their work early. I know it forced me to learn to do my work early so I'm not cramming at the last minute. Also, shouldn't we get a oral communications credit for 45-60 minutes of public speaking? Professor Hatfield was wonderful; she's knowledgeable and wiling to share her resources and knowledge. She's made many break throughs in her field and it was a privilege to be a part of the class She is an amazing professor and I absolutely adore her!

This class opened my eyes to many areas of Psychology that I was not aware of before. Really fun and educational course! A lot of the topics and phenomenons were very new to me and I enjoyed learning about new topics every class. Professor Hatfield is also very nice and easy to talk to. Great class! Lot's of fun, and I learned a lot :) She really cares about helping her students. Nicest lady ever! - Great class to practice presentation skills - Learned a lot about different interesting phenomenons - Easy class I thoroughly enjoyed all the presentations and positive environment. The course consists of three presentations. For my second one I got a B+ yet she didn't really explain to me how I could improve when I asked her. Very enjoyable class! Loved it a lot! I really enjoyed our joint lecture classes This course was great! I thought it was gonna be especially hard for me because I am absolutely terrible at public speaking but after my first presentation, I really learned to relax in front of the class and I thought it really really helped me. I'm able to format my presentations appropriately and speak in front of a public about all the important and interesting facts of the topic. I really felt like I was teaching the class on my knowledge of the topic and that was definitely something I never ever thought I could do. I'm really glad I took this class. I just learned so much. Wonderful professor! Extremely knowledgable. I was impressed she could recite studies and experimenters from memory. Wish I could have heard more of your stories and experiments! Very interesting class and helps developing confidence to give oral presentations

I would wish to have a survey of other areas of social psychology and less student presentation time. I would have liked to hear Dr. Hatfield talk more since she is very knowledgeable in the field of social psychology. This class is supposed to provide an overview of social psychology for graduate students, and it absolutely does not. Dr. Hatfield did not give a single lecture the entire semester. The students "taught" the class by delivering three presentations each on topics of their choosing. The university needs to provide a proper social psychology seminar, and this course falls far short of that mark. Dr. Hatfield did not teach one day of this class. This class was not a survey of social psychology, nor was it even an overview of the specific topics of love and sex. Each student was responsible for 3 presentations of his/her own choosing to present, on their topic of choice, mostly unrelated to social psychology. Dr. Rapson taught 6 classes somewhat related to the history of sex, but only tangentially. This is a fundamental, core class required by most of the concentrations, that achieved none of the objectives, as it did not address any of the content area of social psychology. While the structure of this class may be helpful as a way to develop research skills, this class in no way conveyed any kind of content about social psychology.

I really enjoyed this class. It gave me a lot of insight as well as a different perspective on how there are so many different things that can affect love and relationships. Elaine is a very caring, and knowledgeable instructor. Thank you for a great semester. It was an honor to be taught by you. Hopefully I will be able to take another class from you in the future. Thank you again and have a wonderful semester! =) I really can enjoy this class. Thank you for teaching me this semester. I would have liked to have participated in more Socratic seminars outside of the history-psych joint classes. I also think that limiting presentations to issues only on love and sexuality is justified. While interesting, I can't say I signed up to learn about social psychology topics outside of love and sexuality. Her class is very interesting! We share the interesting research articles and learn new things from her and our classmates. what a fantastic class!!! thank you Dr. Hatfield~ Good class! 21. My overall evaluation of this course is...

This was one of the most stimulating courses that I have ever taken. It was so great to learn about the interests and research endeavors of the other students in the class, most of which I would've never come across on my own. Dr. Hatfield provided a wonderfully comfortable environment to express our opinions and ideas, and was always very supportive and encouraging when discussing them. This was an incredibly valuable class. I think a few people were unsure of the structure of this course at the beginning, but once we figured it out, it turned out to be a great class with interesting topics. It was a great experience. It is an opportunity to learn from and teach fellow students different topics in the psychological field of love and sexuality. Excellent would recommend to anyone. I really really enjoyed this course, it gave us an opportunity to develop our own research interests in the area of social psychology, and the class discussions really got us to think critically about the past, present and future in the history of love and sex. Its also really interesting to see what all the other students are interested in, and its cool learning about different topics every presentation. Dr. Hatfield is very easy to talk to, and was always extremely helpful when we needed to know things about graduate school or when getting feedback on our presentations. The laid-back atmosphere of the class really great, allowing people to open up in asking questions and sharing ideas and opinions. I have learned alot during this course, and I would highly recommend this class. It has definitely been one of my favorite courses at UH. super awesome!!!!!!!!!!! I would take it a million times if possible!!!! interesting, collaborative atmosphere. enjoyed hearing what my peers and Dr. Hatfield had to say. Laid back. I enjoyed it immensely; it actually gave me a clearer picture of where I fit withing the field of psychology

Excellently-designed course Super good! I was disappointed that the instructor did not lecture, at least occasionally. I took the class to hear about her thinking and scholarship. that this instructor is an excellent instructor. Please lecture in the future. I feel my time was wasted not hearing from an expert in this field. Class presentations took 100% of class time because the instructor failed to keep students to 20 minutes each. Because of this, I learned nothing about love/sex and simply heard about other students research projects. I was looking forward to learning about love/sex in social psychology and was wholly disappointed. The professor focuses on her students' research topics almost exclusively and provides anecdotes which are sometimes offensive (ie. racial and sexist) Saying that a person did not look "black enough" or could only obtain his build from being in prison is (albeit not intentionally) racist, but nonetheless, so. Also, the professor always makes comments about poor little boys and men who cannot get sex because they are illiterate or lack social skills. These are inappropriate generalities that are not psychological phenomena per se and therefore irrelevant. Particularly when the instructor chooses to mock biological research which has its own limitations, but proves to be much more reliable in terms of its objectivity and scope and much less descriptive due to it's ability to elucidate causal functionality between the brain and behavior. I would only recommend this course to social psychology student interested in sex and relationships. Also, the overall pace with which presentations were given should have been managed better so that students actually could know when they were supposed to prepare a talk. Instead, select students gave multiple presentations lasting upwards of 60 minutes each leaving other students to delay their talks. On the other hand, the course was not overly challenging, and at times there were quite good discussions but it just was not something I got much out of.
