| Understanding the basics of linguistics and how it relates to the studies done by anthropologists
that I have studied in classes like 490 was helpful. It really increased my understanding of concepts.
I found the method of quizzing after lectures worked well in cementing ideas and concepts that I
might not have truly grasped otherwise. |

| The study of language, structural functionalism, process of thinking and the way the mind works etc. I have been able to apply this type of understanding to my daily own personal life. I also feel the quizzes also helped. Great way to exercise memory!!! |

| The professor explain the theory using examples, and it helps me a lot in order to get into the meaning of the theory. I am not an English speaker, but I can understand what he explains, I think because he connects the theory which is an abstract concept with real examples in societies. He is also a nice professor and remember every single name of students in the class. |

| I wasn't very interested in the subject matter coming in to the class but felt that I needed a class that
touched on linguistics to give me a broader base in the anthropology discipline. I was delighted to
find such an interesting teacher that truly enjoys his topic. I found the class extremely interesting
and would recommend it to anyone. |
| I really enjoyed the many illustrations drawn on the chalk board. Great class! |
| Extremely knowledgeable that teaching the subject seems second nature to Arno. As soon as one gets pass the absence of visual aide one can see how valuable this class can be. Great instructor and great class! |
