I felt the same way I did about Economics as I did in high school. I feel like I didn't learn anything. Economics is very important in all aspects because it explains what is going on in the world finically but, it was a very horrible experience for me.
I think the labs and the quizzes in lecture were the most important things. If it weren't for the lab classes then I don't think I wouldn't have done so well in this course because it helped go over the main ideas from lecture which I wouldn't have gotten without the class.

There isn't anything that I felt that was "less valuable". I simply did not enjoy the class.
Probably the 8:30 lectures. I mean, I am not functioning so early in the morning and sitting in those lectures really didn't do anything at all. I kind of hated it and quite frankly, I don't really go because it's pretty pointless since labs do so much even though I know lecture goes over a lot that I wouldn't get.

I think the group activities really gets us to help each other out when we don't know what's going on and doing hands on things like that really helped me understand what was going on. Also, the homework with my pearson was so helpful. I think it was an adequate way to do homework because I can learn so much from all the study guides and practice problems.

I loved discussion. Every week I feel like I grasp the material 3x as well because of the activities we do in class.

I thought that the course was very insightful and gave great general knowledge of economics.
Professor Lindo was very knowledgeable of the content , but was also enthusiastic about what she was teaching. The most valuable aspect that I received was the student-teacher connection. I was able to personally get an understanding of where she was coming from. Adding to that, just the material that we learned was also the most valuable.

I truly enjoyed this class. Dr. Lindo is an excellent teacher and made econ very enjoyable.
She is a GREAT professor. I enjoyed the class , as well as her interactions as well. I would recommend her to anyone who needed to take ECON 130. She is also VERY ATTRACTIVE. Would definitely see her outside of class. Thank you Professor Lindo ;)
She's sexy
The TA's James and Casey were awesome in breaking down concepts that were went over a bit quickly in lecture. The discussions were very helpful and contributed a great deal to my exam and homework scores. The review sessions that Casey and James held assisted a great deal as well. Jaclyn Lindo is a very knowledgeable professor. I believe she should be teaching more upper division courses. My only suggestion would be for the exams to be more straight-forward. There were several instances where I felt that there were trick questions. I feel that in a principles course material should be straight forward so that the basics can be grasped. Most of the students in that course were freshman and I know they had experienced difficulty. But overall I think that she is a great professor.

I really liked that the class was straightforward, and that all you needed to really know for quizzes and tests were covered in the lectures. I didn't feel like there were any unwanted surprises in this class.

Good course :)
Dr. Lindo is an awesome professor. I would recommend her to anyone that wants to take econ. She and the TAs this semester are very knowledgeable and know the subject very well. You can tell they really care about the students.
The course covered the material well, but it could be improved. The homework's, quizzes and tests had very misleading questions at times and highly discouraged students from pursuing economics as their major. The slides and discussion sections were helpful in understanding the concepts and theory but not necessarily in application.

I would recommend , random quizes or jeopardy like activities to make sure student undersatnd material, but other than that THIS WAS AN AMAZING CLASS.
Great depth of knowledge, professionalism and presented the material with great organization. The instructor provided not only relevant information about the subject matter but also the additional information linking the material together with current events. I like that she didn't try to explain areas that could not be known. I appreciate that more than getting misleading or false information.

Such a good course and the instructor was well prepared for every lecture. Assignments were returned in a timely manner and the grading was fair. The course material was presented in a logical order. I didn't really utilize the very expensive textbook as much as I would have liked but that is a minor flaw in the broad spectrum of this course.
Seriously, the most approachable professor out there. She is always willing to help, and when you email her, she responds in the most timely manner. I couldn't ask anything more from her. Extremely knowledgable and organized. Her teaching and fashion of approaching the subject is relatable, challenging, but makes it that much more fun! Would definitely take her again if I wasn't graduating :)

Professor Lindo is an excellent lecturer. She explains the concepts very clearly and spends an adequate amount of time on each topic, often illustrating important examples with diagrams, supplementing theory with data. I am extremely impressed by the amount of feedback and effort she puts into each assignment we turn in. Never in my life have I received such consistently detailed responses to my work. I received typed write up in response to the first draft of my research paper. I am beyond impressed and extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to take this class with Professor Lindo. To be honest, econ (every form of econ) is my weakest subject and was quickly becoming my least liked subject, but this class was a real eye-opener. She makes it interesting and a lot easier to understand than many of my previous professors.

Doing the 15 page research paper was quite tough but after doing it I feel like it has strengthened my understanding about Medicare and Medicare Advantage a lot.

There was a lot of supplemental reading that went over my head, but I think it's important for us to learn to read economics articles, even if we have to skim over some of the technical details.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
The only suggestion I have is in regard to the response papers - it was a little difficult to write adequate and well-informed responses to topics we haven't covered in class yet. I would perhaps suggest expanding the list of articles we may choose from to those we have also already been over (maybe with the exception of those we covered in great detail?). Then again, because I was forced to learn some of the concepts early on, that made it easier for me to understand when we finally got to that lecture. So I guess either way is fine.
Mandatory meetings? A Sit-down with the teacher, to discuss research and paper progression.
She is excellent. She seems like she has a humorous side to her. Maybe she could show that more.

Fantastic baby. In the summer of course it was a bit of a rush, but a worthwhile experience. I learned a lot from Dr. Lindo, and would take another class from her if she offered one.
If it wasn't her, i don't think the class would be able to cover all these materials and gain some really good sense of what is going on in the health care industry. I really started from zero knowledge on this course material, but after 6 weeks, I can't say i'm an expert now, but at least i can read through journals without googling all the professional terms. And more importantly now i can have my opinion on what is going on in this area. This is my last semester, but this class is the only class that I felt like I've learned something that I won't forget right after the finals. And she has been always helpful and giving us really really helpful advice that I even wondered how she could have all the time to give this careful and detailed comments. I loved this class! even though it was intense..!
This was a great course taught by a wonderful professor. She is very kind, smart, and can be funny at times. She definitely knows her stuff. I was quite impressed with how much stuff she knows, it almost seems humanly impossible to be that smart. I also liked that she used powerpoints.

Basic economic concepts and theory in the health context. The chosen text was also a very nice guide to go along with the lectures.
The depth of the coverage of the topics was excellent for the information. I did not think things were glossed over because it was teaching economics to public health majors, I think the organization was excellent to help the flow of learning.
Everything! It was very informative both for understanding some basic economics and then how those concepts applied to the health care system. This class definitely opened my eyes to the 'money argument' and why economics plays a vital role in public health.
A very good linkage between theory and practice. Excellent explanation by the instructor in each topic.
Current and relevant examples, response papers (helped me keep up on some of the reading!), research paper and presentations (especially because we worked on the paper throughout the semester; I am learning a lot from other people's presentations!), review sessions (thank you!). I think it was an enlightening and essential course for everyone, but especially those of us in public health who mostly have physical or social science backgrounds lacking in topics related to economics. I think you have persuaded a few students to further pursue the field!
This course provided a very useful and comprehensive overview of economics as it relates to health. Lectures structured on elements of insurance, physician practice behavior, consumer theory, and Medicare give a solid foundation for public health students. Allowing students to research a health-related topic of their choice for the paper was especially helpful to further students' understanding of health economics. Powerpoints were very helpful & structured well to convey knowledge.
With only a basic understanding of economics, this course provided me with a strong foundation in health economics concepts. This course also piqued my interest in health economics and I hope to continue learning about health economics as I know it will be useful in my future career plans.

Sometimes felt there was a little too much background information on some of the topics, much of it is already covered in the intro policy courses (ex. history of hospitals, CMS and MCO definitions). Even though the background info is helpful to put things in context, sometimes wish there was more focus on economic theory. But, overall I felt it was comprehensive coverage of the content and learned a lot.
Jackie is very enthusiastic about the subject matter. Unfortunately, there were several times when she planned/wanted to cover more material than we could reasonably cover in a 3 hour class.
I enjoyed the combination of lecture notes on the chalk board and powerpoint presentations.
The amount of reading recommended was a little overwhelming and I could not keep up on it (this was also because I took too many courses this semester and struggled to find time to read for any of them); I prefer powerpoints to chalk board notes, mostly because I think I can absorb more of the information when I can read through it and take notes on it instead of trying to copy everything being written; and this could just be me, but the late class time was not ideal... I had a hard time concentrating during the last hour! But I understand that it might have been the only time that worked for others this semester
Make the system of accessing course reading simpler. Ideally, readings would have a class session topic or number attached and be in order we read them.
I would have liked to have a more specific guidelines about what to include in the response papers and final paper. For example, instructions about components to include in the paper or what types of analyses should be included would have been helpful to know before writing the draft.

I was very surprised how much I enjoyed the class. When I registered for it I thought it was about something other than it was so in the first weeks I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it (though I knew it would be a useful class), but the material was interesting and applicable to my field. I really enjoyed the class.
I hope the department hires someone like Lindo to teach health econ in the future. I think the department and the students could really benefit from it.
I highly appreciate the efforts that Dr. Jaclyn put while teaching the course. She explained each inquiry by the students and provided valuable information regarding the course.

While the student presentations (so far) have been interesting as it has introduced me to many different topics that we weren't able to discuss in class, I feel that two entire days of class was too much time allocated for presentations. Since this is our only health economics class in the program, I would have liked to have more lectures to learn about another topic more in depth. The student presentations provided a good overview of the topic but still didn't provide me with enough knowledge and understanding of the content to the same level that Jackie's lectures do.
