sometimes the vritual feild trips were confusing, it would help to explain more clearly what the assignment was. i think that announcing when the middle point is for the forums was good because it was not always easy to know when mid unit was, maybe list it in the syllabus

This is an extremely difficult course to teach effectively, and Shanti Devi has done a great job.

I would require that students also read the textbook. It complimented Devi's essays, and gave further understanding to the material.

I think she has it down, I really wouldn't change much about the course content at all. Just beware that there's a lot of information for each unit. However, Professor Devi usually helps to pick out the main points in the forums.

a. The class was wonderful nothing needed to improve it. b. One thing I would change is the number of essays for assignments. 10 essays in a 15 week course is very difficult; especially for full time students.

I will give more time to return the assignments.

I think prof Devi is very, very knowledgeable. However, I think she is overly concerned with people thinking outside of the presented subject matter.

Great. Uses several methods to explain the material such as the VFT and vocab games. Essays and powerpoint...

She was an awesome teacher. She helped my understanding to grow by getting me to think for myself and to think more critically.

Very engaging, connects with students, encouraging critical thinking of a difficult topic...esp online!

Devi is incredibly knowledgable of the material that she teaches. Not only is she well educated and experienced in world religions, but she has witnessed them firsthand in her travels. The Virtual Field Trips allow an even broader knowledge base for her students to explore. The study games are fun practice for memorizing materials.

I love Professor Devis methods, she constantly interactsand engages her students. She provides effective constructive criticism with room for correction. This is my third course with professor Devi And I love her courses.

I think the teaching methods that Professor Devi uses are very helpful. It's just a matter of how much a student participates in the class that will determine their success in learning. Her essays are very clear, though I do sometimes have a hard time deciphering the sentence structure, as a lot of information can be packed into each paragraph. She maintains on-topic discussion very well in the forums, and makes sure to get students involved by asking questions about main points we need to understand for the unit.

I mostly appreciate the way that Devi teaches her students to be objective learners, by keeping an open mind for other cultures and not being too opinionated.

She has contributed so much to me, I will never forget her, her courses or her method of teaching.

Yes, I have learned a lot about the different world religions from this class. Her wealth of knowledge about each religion contributes greatly to the effectiveness of this course. Professor Devi is also very involved in the forum discussions, and makes sure to keep the subject matter clear and amount of involvement for each student fair.

22. Other comments:

Not happy with her gradebook. While test and paper grades were shown a running overall grade has never been made available. So it has been hard to tell where I was at. A full third of our grade has never been posted.

I really appreciate being able to take this course. I would take it at least one or two more times if permitted, to keep absorbing the wealth of information presented.

Devi's involvement in the course was always apparent. For an online class, I feel she gets us as interactive as possible. I appreciated the fact that she responds to every post on the forum board. I would recommend her courses to any student who was seriously interested in learning about the topic.

Don't be alarmed by what seems to be Professor Devi completely sacking a little wrongly-worded comment in the discussion forums. Students who have never taken her courses will be a bit shocked. She's very direct, but with a purpose: clear comprehension. Yes, her comments can be very harsh at times, but she's just trying to maintain on-topic discussion and help students stay the course.

The reading material of some of the sections seemed much more intensive than others, although, I am not sure if it could have been divided up any better. Some of the essays were a little repetitive and long. I also was not too keen on messages being deleted throughout the course. I understand that the teacher has the power to do that, but it kept making me wonder what I had missed.

I won't want to improve anything. I liked how the teacher taught it and all the work she gave us, all of it was very useful and very helpful.

I think it was weird that every assignment in this course had to use the information provided exclusively. If the student has had experience with whatever the topic may be they should be able to use that first-hand knowledge rather than having to paraphrase everyone else's work.

20. What do you think of the teacher and his/her teaching methods?

Overall I was happy with Ms. Devi's teaching methods. After I got the hang of it, the Virtual Field Trips were very fun and extremely interesting; I felt like they were very well thought out and there was enough variety with each section that I was easily able to find one I really wanted to learn about time after time.

Ms. Devi has definitely contributed to my general knowledge. There were so many things she brought to light either through VFT or discussion that I either did not know or had not thought of for years. I know I will be able to apply much of my newfound knowledge in not only the workplace but life in general. I had always been interested in Japanese culture and she has truly nurtured my desire for more knowledge. :)

22. Other comments:

The only negative thing I can really say is that I felt like some of the quiz questions were a little confusing. I also did not appreciate certain comments like that we were the worst class at discussion. Overall though, it was a very rewarding experience and I have to admit that I am a little sad that the semester is so close to an end.

A number of test questions required the reader to meticulously read and re-read course material to answer.

Keep up the good work teach! I enjoyed your classes and thanks for contributing to my knowledge of Japanese culture. I am no longer ignorant of it!

Perhaps I would try chat.

The course is virtually perfect. The discussion board allows students to interact with each other and the teacher; the lectures are thorough, always interesting and enjoyable; the essays and tests allow for full comprehension. The only suggestion I would

i would encourage my students rather than criticize them if they post the wrong answer or accuse them of not reading her essays if they appear to be confused in a unit.

I feel no need to improve or change anything about this course, for I have learned a great deal of knowledge about religious studies that I probably would have never known prior to my enrollment in these classes.
