Dr. Pearson, although monotone and kind of boring is a very good teacher. Although his lessons sort of put me to sleep his enthusiasm keeps me awake and listening. The material is hard but Dr. Pearson explains it well.

Professor Pearson is a good Professor. Very knowledgeable; however, often times he did not answer questions directly. I believe he did this to stimulate us to think; however, it made the course a bit frustrating. One recommendation would be better voice projection to keep the students more engaged.
This was a very challenging course. Prof Pearson allowed us to learn by trial and error- it's not a way I'm used to learning, but I think I got quite a bit out of the course.

This course is tough, but really helpful for research. Thank you professor!
it was hard to stay focused in class at times. Often times I didn't know if I was doing the work correctly because every time I asked for suggestions you would say that it's up to me. Although that's true in the real world, in a class room I think it would be better if you helped us out with the answers a little. Especially because this stuff is new and I'm not sure what I'm doing is even remotely related to the question. A little more clarity would help alot.
Professor Pearson is really unclear when students have questions. A lot of my classmates stopped asking him for help with assignments because the answers he gives are very vague and do not help at all. More than anything, it was frustrating to ask for clarification from him because you didn't get any. I also would suggest smaller groups for the group project. At the graduate level (and as most of us work during the day) it was very difficult to get six people together to work on the project.
I thought you were really helpful whenever I asked questions. I am especially appreciative of how prompt you responded to my emails. I learned a lot about how to research accounting and tax authorities effectively, which will be very helpful when I enter the workforce upon graduation. Only thing I wish you had done a little differently was explain the accounting research a little more in depth - maybe discuss the different types of sources a little more in depth. But other than that, everything went great. Thank you for all of your hard work!
Prof. Pearson is a very responsible professor. I appreciate his hard work! Even though the class is a little bit difficult but I learn a lot from him. Thank you!

Tough class but definitely worth taking!
Really enjoyed the class. Came in knowing very little about tax due to my undergraduate college, but I am leaving after this course feeling very confident in my tax knowledge. I wish I could take a class with you again next semester.
Professor Pearson is a very good instructor. He gives good assignments to reinforce learning the material.
One of the best professors for tax!!! Other professors don't even come close to his knowledge of this kind of technical material. Very helpful when I encountered problems. Also gave us lots of practice problems so we can "apply our knowledge" and make sure we understood the concepts. Time flies when you're having fun!

Professor Pearson is the best instructor in the accounting department. I wish other instructors have the same level of knowledge and enthusiasm for their students and courses.
Strong passion for tax and tax research, only complaint was we got a little off the sylabus dates, but went into the first class ready to cry because I was so frustrated, leaving with a good knowledge of tax and auditing research, thank you professor Pearson

Difficult and challenging coursework, but GREAT professor! Any other professor would not have done a better job with this class! Lots of learning involved. I definitely had to "apply my knowledge" all the time. Useful skills to have for my future career in accounting. I recommend this course even for those who are not pursuing a Master's degree. Time flies when you're having fun! ;)

Professor Pearson had great outlines that covered all the material. He was clear about what we would be tested on. He was always prepared for class and used the full amount of time. Since he is a consistent and knowledgeable and clear (not confusing) teacher, I have signed up for another class with him in the fall.

As you said, this course is probably the most time-consuming and material intensive undergraduate course in the nation. It would have been more helpful to administer quizzes at the start of class, and then lecture on the new material. Your course was very well planned and it shows that you put a lot of effort into teaching, not only research.

This course was definitely a challenge for me; however I thought that Professor Pearson taught the class really well. He was fair grader, often enthusiastic about the material, and his jokes lightened the mood. The amount of work was strenuous, but reasonable, and he was always there to help. Most of all, I really liked how the PowerPoints were organized and how they presented examples focusing in on one concept at a time. This class was a great learning experience.

I learned alot from this class. Prof. Pearson has a slight monotone voice so sometimes it made it difficult to keep focused. Also, theres alot of material to cover so possibly narrowing it down to the most common things would be good. All in all, he demanded alot out of his students and its good that he kept our attention by calling on us.
Mr. Pearson has a profound knowledge of the subject material and conveys this knowledge well to his students. He is a great addition to the Business School faculty and the University as a whole.

Always feeling tired in class and bored. I didn't find this class very helpful. The slides were boring and confusing. Since it was a evening class, this issue become more difficult to overcome as the evening went on and I became tired. I suggest making this a two day a week class to give students time to process the information. When you only have class once a week it is hard to study throughout the week.

The pace of the class was a little fast to follow. I felt like I didn't know what was going on a lot of the time.
The handouts given during the second half of class are not helpful. Since everyone is bored and tired, no one wants to do them. Also, since so much information was covered in class it is hard for students to effectively work through the problems when they still are unsure of the material. I suggest consolidating the slides. Present only the key point in your slides and discuss minor ones. It would also be helpful if you didn't sit behind your computer throughout all of class. Buy a clicker and stand in front of the class while you present. It would keep people engaged.
Please leave more white space so we can work out our answers for quizzes and exams. It would be easier to have the questions for the PowerPoints on a separate file, so we have space to answer the problem (since there is little or no space on the PowerPoints) and we can go over the problem in more detail. For example, the aggregate taxable year for partnerships was difficult to understand with the small example given in class. Tax basis and similar calculations would be easier to understand if we could follow along in class than just briefly see the answer on the PowerPoint. It would also force us to be more attentive. I think working out a difficult problem step-by-step. It would be nicer to have a consistent structure for when quizzes and homework is due. For the first half of the semester, homework was due every other week while the quizzes were in between, but in the second half of the semester, they were both on the same day.
Try to spread out the class over the week, 3 hours of corporate tax is a lot to absorb in one night in the middle of the week. But other than that you the man Dr. Pearson!!!
Thomas Pearson is a nice professor, but he needs to realize that we (the students) are not his colleagues. We speak a different language (baby accounting talk).

Definitely one of the most practicl courses I have taken thus far. I feel it will be invaluable toward my future work in accounting.
Great class. It is also good that its in a class where there are computers.
Give us a little bit more guidance with the memos and project
Dr. Pearson is great! I learned a lot in this class.
Prof. Pearson is a good guy. I liked this class. I just wish it weren't so difficult, and he gave a little more direction and instruction.
The most frustrating course I have ever taken, but in the end a very valuable class that taught me a lot of things that will be useful to me in my career. I would have preferred a little more guidance from Dr. Pearson instead of the sink-or-swim approach, particularly with regard to the memos. I often felt lost when working on the memos, so more assistance would have been greatly appreciated. Overall, great course and instructor.
Even though we needed to use the ASC in our research of the memos, I think we needed more practice or an in-depth tutorial. We all used the codification in various ways, but using it on the final required that we have more exact knowledge of where to look and what to search for.

Professor Pearson's voice, it's unique. I plan to go into tax or at least do tax returns for friends and family so i'll constantly think of how this class has benefited me.

The quasi-socratic method used in class. Never knowing if you're going to be called on to answer questions really makes you study the content; either that or suffer embarassment in front of your fellow classmates. In either case it definitely gives you added incentive to study before class and not just before tests.
Minimizing the burden of homework but encouraging students to actively participate in class and pay attention.

Laid back grading
The concepts were very helpful to know because I will encounter them when I start working full-time.
I really enjoyed how Pearson called on everyone. This gives everyone an opportunity to speak.
I like the subject but wish we could have spent more time on explanations of the logic behind the rules instead of focused on the mechanics. The professor is very kind and passionate about teaching.
