The reservoir of in depth knowledge. I did feel however that the utilization of the student farm was much an undertaking, many projects and potential collaborations could have added on an integral unit for both parties involved.

that the class was so small and learning about irrigation and water management was really interesting to me, but this class had the potential to teach me a lot more.

32. Other comments:

The student farm seemed like the perfect outlet for some hands on activities. The lectures were great, however the practice of the art of irrigation is totally lost. Integration and collaboration will heighten the experience of the class by far. We are in the tropics and low water use and integrated systems are essential for efficient food production. conventional, mono-crops are not the end goal for many here. aloha

Although many topics are presented and gone over in class, most of the learning is left to the student to read the text book on irrigation of citrus in Florida. And although it indeed does contain a lot of good information, it is very specific at times and does not cover issues not relating to cirtus in Florida (of which there are many). The textbook is still valuable, but the lectures are largely based directly off of the text, and so at times it can feel like a self taught course on irrigation of citrus in Florida as opposed to a general course on irrigation and water management of crops in general. Much of the material was gone over quickly and shallowly in class and then left to the student to read the text book. A lot more could have been gained by focusing more in depth on the key principles and concepts of irrigation in class.

the power points are boring and shouldnt just be pages from the book, this makes it really hard to pay attention and really understand the main concepts. also, in the beginning of the semester lectures and chapters of the book were made available to us online but after the first exam almost all laulima postings ended, which was annoying. Not only that, but for our last exam he waited until the night before the exam to post the questions even though it was Thanksgiving weekend and he could have given us the long weekend to study. Better flow and consistency is needed

Lectures

I liked that it didn't just reiterate what was in the text. I liked the class discussions of literature and the applicable homework assignments.

Honestly, everything. Class material, the instructor, the discussions, the field trip...It has been a great experience.

The instructor always links the theory to what should be done in the field.

The review of the articles were a good skill to practice, learning about models used in the profession were also helpful, and I thought the labs were very interesting, relevant, and practical. I wish there were a few more labs to get more hands on experience.

He was very open and help class sessions open for discussion and questions. He was very friendly and was very sympathetic to the needs of the students, as not much professors are. And he was also very knowledgeable. Made classes enjoyable.
