13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Very well organized.
She is well prepared and very organized. She is understanding and responds to the students at a very reasonable time. She is very approachable.
Whenever I had a question or concern, she replied to me immediately, she is a wonderful teacher.
She's a very understanding and great teacher. I really liked her teaching style.
Very helpful, knowledgeable. Extremely understanding of the issues that affect students. She was the first teacher to actually ask about our lives outside of school, and she was thoughtful of the challenges we face as students.
All of our assignments' instructions were well written out with every little detail.
She knows history and historic people very well.
She knew her information very well and showed it by giving us quite a lot of examples that she wrote out herself.
patricia knew her subject really well, also she was easy to ask her for help.
She communicates very well and is very patient with her students.
Very organized.
Very organized - assignment explanations, deadlines, and expectations were clear. There was a variety of assignments, which made the class both challenging and interesting. Even though course was online, she provided a friendly atmopshere for learning.
She is very organized with the work, she understands the topics we are learning, she responds to emails very quickly, and she helps the students out as much as possible.
Responding quickly and showing care in her diction. Making the quizzes and exams based on the readings. So the teachings and testing related, unlike some teachers. Also her directions for assignments were clear.
Very accessable Prompt grading Great feedback
shes very understanding
She gives very good explanations of how to do things.
I think professor Alvareze knows very well about history.
She was very quick to submit grades and feedback as well as was very thorough on all assignment grading
She was prepared for all the course material and prompted an announced when a test was available.
A great all around teacher, she was always available, understanding, and commited to the class. She knew the material well and encouraged us to work with each other in a class like setting.
Ms. Alvarez knew her subject area very well. Being that this was an online class, she was quick at responding to emails and the Laulima website.
With the assignments that we have to complete, if we had any other questions on the topic area, we could just ask for help on the private messaging. That really helped because she would answer most of my questions that I needed to know about the assignment which helped me complete it.
Good teacher
She is extremely organized and that's particularly important for online classes.
I have only taken the on-line course, but through e-mail and messaging I can tell she is very enthusiastic about history and you need that in order to be a good teacher. Shes very understanding and caring of students.
As an online class, Ms. Alvarez always took the initiative to remind us what was due each week as an announcement which helped a lot. She also had our grades posted promptly which I like because I get really anxious about my grades. She was also there to respond to emails quickly and breakdown things that weren't clear to me.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
The textbook is horrible. It gives less information than an encyclopedia, and is less than useless if you actually want to learn any real history.
Have less different writing because it got confusing.
None.
Nothing much, just keep up the good work!
Honestly, I don't really have anything to suggest because all her work was quite clear and understandable.
none
I did not like the collaborative assignment, since most people are on different islands. Many people did not take active roles in the projects, yet will recieve credit for the work of others.
Collab exercise was hard for me. Maybe if my group was cut down to 2-3 people, it would have been a little easier to work with them since I'd have less partners to track down and wait for.
None.
More extra credit opportunities?
None
none
If there is any change in this class, I just hope that the quizzes should give more time. That would be great for this course.

Get rid of so many different sections. I can't believe how jumbled things are for an online course. This should be spelled out clearly in one place and one shouldn't need 3 browser windows to search through. One week the requirement is to review the instructions in the syllabus. The next week the assignment instructions are in the modules. After that it was combined with modules, syllabus, and the assignments link. It seems to me that each week could have its own complete file. That would allow one stop shopping for course material and significantly reduce the amount of time students spend just hunting for the assignment instructions.
none what so ever.
Have the students on each of the sections that they needed to complete be more specific on what is needed to be used so when the tests comes, we don't have to rush into looking through the book because the students only gave the definition of the word term.
The way she assigns the homework.
Allow students to opt out of the collaborative exercise and complete an alternate assignment.
none
I would change the amount of words and how confused it is to read and understand her modules. In each module, there were a lot of words and procedures, but they should be broken down in an organized and simple manner. She also needs to give more extra credit and inform us about them, so we can plan our schedules accordingly because I never knew about them until recently and the semester is almost over. More extra credit should be given as well that is equal for everyone to have.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She responded to anything and everything very quickly. She was understanding and easily approachable.
Anytime I needed help, she was always there for me.
I would email the professor regarding my concerns on group assignment and she promptly addressed these concerns in a timely manner.
By asking questions about things that may affect our work, by keeping the lines of communication open at all times.
She would email us if she thought we could improve parts of our assignments.
She provided help in the discussion board answered our questions very fast.
She made sure we knew what the assignments were for the week and made sure we knew when they were due
sometimes I would turn in my assignments past the due time but she would always accept them, and appreciated that it got completed.
When situations arose outside of students control, the teacher responded quickly and made concessions in order for the student to remain in the class and still do well.
Prompt responses to PMs and emails. Constructive comments on every paper assignment were really helpful; they helped me with my other research papers also.
If there were any emails sent to her about concerns with homework or projects, she responds very quickly. She helps the students achieve the highest grade possible by letting them fix assignments to help the student understand the assignment better. She tells you what you did wrong and lets you fix it so there is no confusion. For the discussion board, she is very active when responding to posts.
Quick responses to emails and private messages. Always nice and cheerful and positive in her messages.
Mrs. Alvarez gave opportunities to elaborate on our work before giving a final grade, which I though was very nice.
She was very understanding towards circumstances. She also encouraged me to expand on certain work because she knew I was close to the answer just needed some help.
Professor Alvarezis really concern for her students. Whenever I sent her email about my problems of this class, she reply me right away and tell me what to do. She is the best teacher of online class.
N/a
She showed concern by posting reminders of upcoming assignments and always being there for us when needed. If we had questions, she was promt with a thorough answer.
She was understanding and allowed students to make up work only if she felt the circumstances allowed.
With her concerns she would try her best to answer all the questions that was needed to be asked and she would help the students understand more about what is needed to be done in the assignment.
Even though she always provided detailed assignment instructions and examples, she would offer further clarification to the entire class when some students were having difficulties. I received prompt and helpful feedback whenever I contacted her with questions or concerns.
She is always readily available when questions need to be asked. She always responds to a message no later than one day later. She gives feed back on every piece of work and grades fairly.
She always emailed me back promptly and her assignments showed concern and she informed us every week.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
If the student wants an easy A, then sure. The class doesn't require any real effort. If the student wants to learn something, then no. The course isn't designed to give students any real competency in history.
Yes, the class is organized and the teacher is wonderful because she makes herself available, understanding, and approachable.
Yes, I would. She is an excellent teacher.
Of course! This was a great class and I learned a great deal.
Yes! She is a great teacher and knows her subject area well.
Yes, excellent teacher and you won't be disappointed taking this class.
Yes. Her class is very thorough and covers a lot of content. I appreciate quizzes often to reflect on what I read/learned.
I would recommend her to other students because although she is a history teacher, she also had us write essays like an English teacher, which I liked.
yes i would because its a well organized history class.
yes. I took history in class at KCC and I didn't do as well as I am doing in Ms.Alvarez's class.
The class is very straightforward, if you follow her clear directions and take the time to do the work, you will be successful in the class.
Yes - because of the reasons I stated earlier. And I usually hate writing essays, but she broke down the HV essay into smaller parts which made the assignment easier to manage and doable - I thought that was pretty cool, never had a teacher do that before.
Yes I would recommend her to other students because she is a great teach who wants to help students learn to their full potential. She wants to help students in any way possible to make sure they understand the assignments.
Absolutely, she was so kind and smart and fair!
Yes. The ease of her course....not saying that's it's easy but she had everything laid out and organized.
Yes, I would. Her course work is relevant and she returns messages and assignments very promptly. I enjoyed her ckass.
yes, i will recommend Ms.Alvarez to other students.
I would recommend professor Alvarez to every students who want to take history course. This course is really help me lots of things. Professor Alvarez is really a good teacher.
Yes I would because if you want to learn seriously you have to learn from her.
Yes I would. I learned a great deal and the assignments were exciting and fun rather than boring.
Most Definitely
Yes, Professor Alvarez is a great teacher. She helps with most of the things that you need help with when you are stuck. I can recommend students taking this class online because even with an online class for her, you can understand about the history that is needed to be learned in the sections.
Yup....Because she's cool
Yes. Her class is not easy. There is a lot of work, but the class is very well structured. I would highly recommend it to students new to online courses. Time management can be a challenge for students transitioning from face-to-face courses to online courses. The way this course is organized makes the transition much smoother.
Yes, I thought she was a great instructor, that is hard to say about many online instructors. She is very helpful and has a attitude that makes you want to learn.
Yes if you can handle an online class. She is very informing when it comes to assignments, but there is a lot of reading and if you have the time to look at modules and read them thoroughly, I recommend her. She is very simple in all aspects.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I think she is a wonderful teacher that really cares about her students. I commend her because some teachers are cold and do not listen open minded to students.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!
She is very helpful and her assignments aren't easy but its also not very hard. I thought it was very informative.
none
I really enjoyed this class although history is not my favorite subject.
N/A.
Thank you for teaching me online! You made this semester possible for me, and your class was amazingly fun!
I felt that Mrs. Alvarez was very accessable to her students and very fair in her grading.
I just want to say thanks to professor Alvarez because through this course, I learned lots of things. The is the best at KCC.
I have enjoyed my first online class experience with you and thanks for all your help.
Thank you.
Nothing
I never met her personally, but being in this online course showed me how nice she is.
18. What did you like most about your online course experience?
It was well-organized and very clear about expectations. I wish more teachers that are online-only would use the same type of format.
I enjoyed being able to do the work on my own time rather than an assigned time during the day and the teacher was very quick to respond.
I liked that everything was online. Nothing had to be done in school. I do not have regular transportation, which made it a great choice to do online.
I liked how convenient the course was. With work and a full-time school schedule, it was really nice to be taking this online course where there was no requirement for my physical presence in the classroom. It really took some stress off of my plate!
Able to tailor the classes to my time availability.
It was very accessible and very time friendly to me.
I liked how the online was a lot easier than attending school. It is just as helpful and I learned a lot probably more than I would have at school.
what i liked the most about this online course is that it was online and i didnt have to come to school for class.
assignments, quizzes and posts were due by 11:55pm which was very flexible for my schedule.
I am self directed, so working when I can is helpful.
That it was very organized. Everything was clearly stated. She provided us with lots of sources and good explanations of each assignment, and also gave us a lot of time to work on it. I really liked that the quizzes were only on the vocab terms - I'm not gonna lie, I don't have enough time to throroughly read through each chapter and absorb all the information, so just having to know the vocab terms realllly helped.
I liked that every assignment or project given was spread out evenly. She gives extensions to make sure although we did not complete is well, that we can resubmit it to make sure we understood what we did wrong. It was easy to understand with good instructions and help.
It exceeded my expectations of any history class in that the assignments were fun and engaging.
I like most of online course is the time. The time of online course is very flexible. Since I had kids, it really good for me to study at home.
Its was less stressful than going to a physical class since all you have to do to attend is go online and do the assignments there.
The ease of communicating with the instructor via PM in laulima.
She was awesome at getting back at students on email and Laulima!!! One of the quickest teachers ever!
It wasn't to difficult and it wasn't too easy throughout the course. What I liked most about this was that the teacher would always answer you back on your private messaging that was sent to the professor which I really appreciated. Without asking the questions that was asked, and without the professor answering back to what was asked, it would have been more harder for me to complete my assigments. But by her responding to every message, it really helped me out a lot.
The learning
Even though it was a online course. I felt that it was still personable and even got to communicate to some of my classmates through one of our collaborative assignments.
I love the fact that you don't have to go on campus and it's one class less that you have to attend in person. It is also convenient to look over your grades as much as you want and being able to look at other assignments early, so you can plan ahead.
19. What did you like least about your online course experience?
The assignments and quizzes were a joke. There was no real learning involved. It was very disappointing because at first the course looked really well-put together.
The glitches especially during a timed quiz because the glitches take up time loading which erases time from the quiz.
Since it is an online class, it's a little tough to work on group projects with your classmates.
It is hard not to procrastinate.
It is a little hard to communicate with other students when we had a group paper due because we all wouldn't respond as quickly as at school.
i would sometimes forget to check my emails or laulima and not know what was due
in the beginning I would have a hard time figuring out what module we were on. But as I got used to it it wasn't a problem.
I miss the interaction of the classroom.
The collab exercise!
Nothing.
Sometimes I could not get a hold on classmates in a timely manner.
The collaborative exercise. The reason we take online classes is due to limited timing in the first place. I found that having to meet up with other students, was daunting and stressful.
What I like least about online course is that if I have questions, I can ask right a way instead I have to send an email to professor and wait for the answer. However, professor Alvarez didn't let me wait long. She answered email really fast.
I would get kicked off the internet sometimes as it would overload my computer's processor.
Assignments assigned with instructions for the assignment listed in more than 1 document.
nothing.
The test was good, but the time we had to complete the test was a little too early. Some times I would have to guess because I would only have a few seconds to complete about 5 problems which really screwed me over on the test part of the course.
Even though I was sick she still wants us to do the homework.
none
I didn't like the fact that it was confusing where everything was at first and that I can't meet my classmates in person and get to know them more.
20. Other comments:
I appreciate her understanding side and how quickly she responds and shows she cares about the students.
I would recommend her to students.
none
Thank you Ms A! Hope my future online course teachers are like you.

Could you add a "mail tool" to your workspace area?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Professor Alvarez clearly communicates what is expected of the students while being flexible and understanding. I like that the coursework builds on itself with each new assignment an enhancement of the previous.
She responses quickly to question. She also answers questions in a way the student can understand. She always makes herself available.
Great communication. She made everything crystal clear and was always there if you need her.
Ms. A knows her subject very well.
She was very helpful and responded to emails as soon as possible, she gave us feedback on assignments.
Professor Alvarez is kind and encouraging and always there to answer any questions or concerns. She is highly knowledgeable about the subject matter and provided an excellent atmosphere for learning. Her curriculum encompassed a wide range of assignments from individual writings/homework to group collaborative exercises which taught students to work together effectively. I would highly recommend this class to other students.
Well organized online class. She required students to pay close attention to details.
She is very concerned about students and tries very hard to encourage them to the best of her ability. She is a fine teacher and tries to help you in any way that she can and whenever possible. She, also, provides some extra credit in case you are struggling. You can E-mail or private message her at any time and she will answer you as quickly as possible. She is qalways fair in her grading and encourages you to do better in the course. I enjoyed her class, and learned much as a student. She made me feel that you can count on her if and when you need her help. She never lets you down, even when frustration sets in. She will pick you up and help you through it. I would recommend her to others to take her course. It was a lot of hard work, but a lot of fun too.
Very organized!!
She would care for student's posts and make an option for us to make it better.
Very organized.
Her concern for her students is her biggest strength.
She is an easygoing teacher. She is well organized and encourages students to join outside academic activities. She is also a very understanding person.
Ms. Alvarez major strengths include constantly showing concern that we understand our assignments. She makes it known that if we have questions to ask her and she will get back to us asap. I feel like if there were questions that needed to be answered, she was always willing to help.
shes nice and smart in her subject
She's a very nice teacher and really understanding. It's very important in my opinion that a teacher answers questions efficiently, and Patricia Alvarez does just that.
She would quickly and clearly respond to questions that were asked. Knows the study material.
very organized
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
The only suggestion I would make is to provide more guidelines or at least suggestions for students on the collaborative assignment.
none
None, she is an excellent instructor.
None.
It would be nice to have a little more time for the quizzes, twenty-five minutes is a little too short.
None. I like having Ms. A as an online teacher. Very involved and keeps you on track and involved in the subject.
The tests are confusing. There should be another reminder forwhen it is.
No collaborative assignment. Many did not take part and do their share. Reminds me of high school...were the smart kid does all the work and everyone gets credit. Plus many are on different islands so true collaboration is difficult.
None.
I guess do a PowerPoint for each chapter. It helps with understanding the subject better.
I feel as if the time allotted for tests is not sufficient enough. It makes it hard to focus on the material being reviewed through the test when you have such a short amount of time to complete the test.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She answers questions promptly and maintains communication throughout the course.
She helped helped and understood that I had a disability with my arms going numb and she helped me with as much stuff as she could with an online class.
She was available through the website all the time. She took the first step in letting a student know how they could improve their grade on an assignment before it was due.
She contacted us if we were falling behind and answered questions if I needed help. She also gave us feedback on assignments so that we could improve.
She was available via private message and responded promptly to my questions.
She is always there when you need her. She answers your questions as soon as she sees your private message or E-mail. She shows concern for your problems and tries her best to suggest a solution to the problem. I had a problem with the fact that she could not read my homework, so I had to enter the homework on a private message as well. It was a little more work but it solved the problem
She was available anytime ... by email, online, phone, office hours, etc.
She would email us or notify us on how to make things sound better to our best capability.
She always was open to communication and if you needed something she always responded promptly. If you communicated your needs, she did her best to accomodate you.For a working mother going to school, that is huge to being successful.
I was missing two quizzes, and she messaged me asking if everything was alright with me and why I missed my quizzes.
Yes she answers your questions in time and gives out extra credit to students who are not able to do an assignment. She encourages the students to always do their best and does not intimidate anyone.
She was available for any questions that her students might have. I feel like she kept us interested in the course material by providing us with interesting assignments.
she emailed us about assignments
She was able to efficiently answer any questions that we had concerning assignments. It's very important to a student to get their questions answered before their assignments are due and I like that she was so quick to answer questions.
replying through emails
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would. The coursework is well designed, she is flexible but very clear on expectations and is knowledgeable.
100%! I have 2 friends already enrolled for her spring 2011 class and I'm working on more!
Yes...this class is very interesting and informational.
Yes, I would most definitely recommend Ms. Alvarez to students she is a excellent teacher who I think enjoys helping her students.
Yes, although the class is borderline writing intensive and quite challenging, there are no finals and only five quizzes.
I would recommend her class to everyone. She is a good teacher and she is genuinely concerned about her students. She encourages you and helps you whenever she is able.
Definately!! I like the way she organizes online learning. Make it easy and to keep on track.
Yes I would because she is one of the few teachers that care about her students.
Absolutely. She is very organized. If you do the work, and put in the time you will do well. Its not easy, but it straightforward and interesting.
Yes, her teaching methods are simple, yet effective.
Yes, because she is a great teacher to take online. Her class is well organized and her assignments are well spread out for students who are too busy to check their laulima everyday.
Yes, Ms. Alvarez was an excellent teacher to learn from. I would recommend her to other students. She possessed the skills necessary to teach the course material and made it fun in the process as well.
yes because her class is enjoyable
Yes. This was a very good History class, and I would take another class from her if I had to take another history class.
Yes, She was very helpful when had questions and was able to respond quickly. She also has examples of most assignments and extra resources to help us succeed.
recommend. knew a lot about the subject
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I took her History 152 class because I liked her History 151 class and her style of teaching.
Thank you Ms. A for this wonderful semester. May you have a wonderful holiday seasons.
Nothing.
She is an excellent teacher. She, also, has a genuine feel for students. I just hope that she changes the quiz time and increases it.
I wish all my online classes could be taught be her.
Thank you for helping me through all the emails for my posts. Hopefully I pass your class.
Nothing.
She is a nice teacher.
i like her style of teaching
Overall, she was a very good professor. I liked that she was very efficient on answering emails and questions that I had pertaining to the assignments and projects. She's very understanding when it comes to problems meeting due dates, which makes it easier to focus on the problem at hand.
18. What did you like most about your online course experience?
I enjoy the flexibility.
I could do my class on my own time.
It was easy I thought it was going to be tough but Ms. A made it easy for us to understand what we needed to do. This was my first online course and I really enjoyed it, I will definitely take more online courses.
Getting graded in a prompt manner.
It was a great experience and I enjoyed it. I like to take on=line classes. Sometimes they are more demanding, but at times it is easier to take an on-line class because of availability and the time given to the ckass assignments are adequate.
The organization.
I could do it on my time.
Be able to manage my work schedule and my class work.
This was my first online class, and she showed her concern for me when she noticed how lost I was.
I prefer going to school and learn from there. However because of my situation I was not able to, however Professor Alvarez made this online course experience enjoyable and smooth.
We were able to use the textbook throughout the course on exams/quizzes.
i didnt have to go class but got to learn at home
Announcements were posted every week with what we had to turn in and what was due. Things were promptly due on Wednesdays and Fridays, so it was easy to remember when assignments were due.
No specific meeting time, and gave plenty of time to do assignments. Gave plenty of resources to assists us to complete assignments.
19. What did you like least about your online course experience?
It is difficult to collaborate with other students when there is not a set meeting time.
I only got to meet her once in person.
Nothing
Nothing.
I, sometimes, was frustrated with the fact that the time for test was so short.
none
There was only a few reminders. I'm a type of person that needs alot of reminders.
I miss being in a classroom and having intelligent conversations during lectures.
I liked this class.
I guess the fact I didnt get to meet my professor and all of my classmates in person. I think it would have been more fun.
I did not like how we had to have partners on an online assignment. It is hard to work with others in an online only course. Overall, it was an okay experience but it has its drawbacks when one of the students refuses to participate in the assignment.
nothing
20. Other comments:
Ms. A is a real asset to KCC. If I were an administrator there, I would consistently make sure that Ms. A is happy so that she never leaves. She is so beneficial to the students!!!
Thank you Ms. A for all the help, I really enjoyed your course!
None.
I really like on-line classes, infact I am going to take more on-line classes this next semester.

Overall, Patricia Alvarez was a very good teacher and made my online class taking a very good experience. If I had to take this class again, I would definitely do so and take it from her.

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Responded to emails quickly. Provided assignments that assisted in my learning.
The instructor listed objectives, goals, outcomes , and syllabus from the very first day of class. She was informative and assisted me with any problems I may of had. She responded to all emails and correspondences in a timely fashion. I think she is a wonderful instructor who is passionate about what she teaches!!
Compassion, Understanding, Knowing the subject, Using her own method, and being able to teach an online class
Professor Alvarez was always available. She responded promptly to emails and pms. She is also a teacher that cared if her students to do well, and was always enthusiastic about our work.
All information needed for our success was provided. Everything was organized and she made sure that we didn't miss anything.
Prof. Alvarez provided great input for each assignment given and always returned papers and such in a timely and orderly manner which helped in doing the next thing for class. She knows her subject and has provided a great way to share and explore history without it being bore.
Quick response to emails and PMs.
Strengths was that she showed concern for her students. I was going to drop the class because i bombed a few test but she encouraged me to stick it out, which turned out to be good.
Mrs. Alvarez's strengths as a teacher would have to be that she is very responsible, concise and direct when it comes to directions and getting things done. Her compassion for history makes the class a lot more fun and interesting to go through. Her concern for her students was very strong. She would always find some way to accommodate my needs when an emergency situation came up during the semester so, she is a very understanding and fair teacher. The way the work was assigned during the semester was very easy to follow but at the same time it provoked intelligence in learning the subject area and was creative and interesting, not boring, at all. Mrs. Alvarez has many strengths that I admire very much as a teacher, you can't always find a great teacher like her.
The instructor replied me really fast! Helped me a lot!
Professor Alvarez has a strong knowledge base, is incredibly kind and fair. Her course is challenging, enlightening and insightful.
Responded promptly to questions and emails. Knew the subject matter well.
Encouraged me
She knows the material, is organized, and fair.
Her online course was the most well organized course out of all my classes. It flowed well and kept me at a good busy pace.
knows subject well
compassionate, caring, understanding and fair.
She responds ASAP when needed.
Her lessons and modules are very well mapped out.
Professor Alvarez explained things clearly and she used Laulima well because I was able to see what week we are in and what assignments were due that week. I didn't have to refer to the syllabus that much since the assignments were on the home page of our class Laulima site. She also responded to my emails and private messages quickly when I had questions about the course. She also gave me good feedback and helped me with a few assignments.
She helped explain a lot of what I did not understand. Her assignments had structure and were easy to get a hang of once you did it once.
This instructor's major strengths are caring for students, being flexible, available for students, positive reinforcement, willing to give extra time, and many more strengths that really help students to succeed.
responded to private messages promplty, and also returned grades in a timely manner.
she was very organized which made it easy to follow her weekly calendar.
Compassion, Knowledge of subject
she clearly explained the assignments on what needs to be done and when.
He really knew the best way to run an online class and he knew his subject area
Her Experience teaching the subject matter
our teacher was really helpful if we ever needed to get in touch with her and she was willing to take the extra time to help us.
History usually is a very boring class for students. She was able to incorporate more into it. Instead of just having us read, read, read and then quiz, quiz, quiz. She had us different assignments which gave us a deeper insight into some chapters.
She was very understanding when I needed extra time to make up my work because I gave birth in the middle of the semester. I loved the way this class waas a balance of tests and writing assignments. I hope to join another class of hers.
Its hard taking online classes so i'm sure its not so easy to teach them. she did well
Even though it was an online class and I was very nervous about taking it, the teacher had everything well organized and straight-forward. I enjoyed it and most-likely would be willing to take another online class
Helping others. Informing us when a certain homework is due or any projects. Letting us know about online classes. And doing her best to help us with questions that we have.

18. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
nothing!
For the class i would say less work, more extra credit. be able to make up quizes.
No changes necessary.
Possibly more time when doing the assigned quizzes. Other than that, none.
n/a
The only thing was it was an online course.
If there were any changes that I would suggest It would not have anything to do with the way she teaches or how she is as a person, it would have to deal with the timed Quizzes. If there is anything that she could change I would suggest that she would give an extra ten or fifteen minutes on the quizzes just in case computer glitches come up, which may happen sometimes when experiencing an online class, but, that's about it.
No, I think the instructor is very familiar with this field and the class procedure. I think it is good enough.
Perhaps implement a way to modify the amount of reading involved in short periods. Other than that...not a darn thing! She does a fantastic job and I am thankful to have had this opportunity-again!!!
I would eliminate the collaboration exercise.
None, she is excellent.

Explain instructions a little more.
No changes because she has her course down to the perfect science.

Try to keep all of your instructions together. Laulima is a lousy system and slow and to have to navigate through all the different windows to see all the instructions for each individual assignment was excruciating.
i liked her class just the way it was.

Maybe just a few more minutes for our timed quizzes
For me there wouldn't be any changes for the instructor. Because she know's what she is doing and is doing a great job.
19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
emailing, was very understanding about my assignemtns that did not go through because of computer glitches.
She gave me time off when i needed it most
Through enthusiasm. If we did something that could be improved, she stated a positive point, along with giving a suggestion of how to improve.
Each week she posted reminders on what should be completed.
She constantly communicated with the entire class and individually when needed. She made great suggestions to help with our assignments on how we can improve and try to better our skills for the upcoming assignments.
She quickly responded to any concerns. She willing clarified any problems.
She always kept us up to date and answered questions quickly.
The instructor showed concern for her students by taking in consideration of other student's availability when doing the Collaborative assignment, as a team. She also showed this by giving her student's until midnight to finish most of the assignments, which shows that she understands her student's different life styles and availabilities. I had also experienced a time where I was taking a quiz and my computer had very bad internet connection, to the point where it wouldn't turn to the next question for about two minutes. The result was that I couldn't finish the quiz and I got a very low score on it. Mrs. Alvarez showed concern for me by giving me a choice of replacing the upcoming quiz's score with the low score that I had gotten due to the internet connection. This act shows how compassionate, kind and caring Mrs. Alvarez is to her students.
The instructor replied me really fast!
She always repsonds to concerns with compassion, wisdom and guidance; while allowing me to figure out the problem for myself.
Answered emails and private messages promptly
She was quick to respond to any student question or concern.
open line of communication
Barely did
Always available through posts or email.
She responded to my questions quickly with good and helpful information. She also tried lead me in the right direction by giving me a page number to look at and what type of information to look up. It wasn't just a general answer, they were precise and accurate.
She emailed replies right away.
She showed extreme concern for every aspect of the student's life and tried to adjust the course to them to the best of her abilities.
Would give notes on how to improve a paper or assignment, and would give us an opportunity to redue the assignment to earn back points
she gave feedback on every assignment that we turned in with sugestions as to how we could improve on it. or if we did a good job on it, she praised our work. i really liked that because it showed that she didn't just skim through our work, but actually took the time to read it and write her thoughts on it.
By listening and allowing for things to be delt with
He made sure that we knew there were assignments due and gave out reminders
she was really nice & imformative about what we were learning.
she personally emailed me about an assignment, so I could revise it. She also changed my grade as long as I changed my assignment promptly. She is pretty fair.
She taayed in close contact with me to help me through assignments, she helped answer any questions I had about her assignments.
she would keep in contact with me whenever I had any questions or was unsure about an assignment
Answering questions that we have. And helping us with any concerns that we have.
20. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, even though is was an online course I still felt as if I got the attention and education that I would have gotten in class.
I would definitely recommend this instructor. She teaches the online course in a way that students retain the information they are learning. Her method also enables students to interact even though they may from other islands.
Yes because she is a good onlie teacher, and she challenges us.
ABSOLUTELY. She's an awesome teacher. You can tell she knows her field.
Definitely. She's very helpful and prompt.
Yes because her class is fun and interesting. Her class is challenging yet intriguing because you need to pay attention and put forth your best effort in order to get the grade you want.
Yes because she uses Laulima effectively which makes it easier to learn.
yes, She was fair you have to do your work.
I would definitely recommend this teacher to other students! In fact, I think I already did recommend this teacher to two other students. I recommended her to other students because she is a very responsible, caring, creative teacher and when it comes to giving directions ( which is very important when dealing with an online class) she is very direct and descriptive, to the point where I don't really have to ask any questions. She also is very helpful with her tips at the modules sections for this online course. For example, her quiz tips were very helpful in knowing what to study when it came to studying for the test because I know from past experiences with other history classes that it is very hard to study for a history class if you do not know exactly what to study for because history is such a broad subject. I would definitely recommend Mrs. Alvarez to anyone who is looking for a hardworking, compassionate, teacher!
Yes because this instruction of the class is really clear and easy to understand.
Absolutely! She know her subject matter, presents it in a manner that is managable and comprehensible. She is so kind and compassionate, but certainly no push-over.
Yes, because I feel that she did a great job instructing the class
sure, very detailed
Absolutely would recommend. The way she presents the curriculum really facilitates student learning. She is straightforward in her expectations. Even though it is an online class, she comes across as being very approachable; she is always willing and wanting to help her students succeed.
yes, She delivered her subject well and very organized.
yes I highly recommend this instructor.
I guess she doesn't seem fair but at least she knows the material well enough to teach it to you.
Yes, enjoyable class.
yes. because she lets you know what is due and when it is due. She also gives you exactly what lies ahead in class and what is expected.
Yes. She is a good teacher and she helped me when I asked her for help. She seems to be very friendly and caring of her students.
Yes, I learned a lot about different people throughout history through her different assignments.
I would completely recommend this instructor to students because she is an amazing instructor with love for the subject as well as for her students. She gave a lot of her time to the course and to her students, which is what a great instructor does. So, it would only be the benefit to students who want to suceeed in History 151 to take her course because you won't be steered wrong.
yes, I would highly recommend this teacher
yes. i don't want to say that her class was easy because she actually expected quality work from us, but she set up class in such a way that was easy to follow and not so overwhelming.
Yes, Knowledge and committment to the students getting everything done.
yes.the instructor is very thorough and explains the assignment in details.
Yes i would because I found this class to be very useful and helpful
Yes necessary class, the instructor ensures that the students are engaged in the subject matter.
yes because she's good!
yes because she doesn't make history, especially ancient history boring.
Yes! Her class was my favorite this semester!
Yes because I did learn a lot from this class and her format of how this class is given is easy to understand and best for my schedule.
yes because this was a great online course. Like I said, it was very straightforward so there wasn't much room for confusion
Yes. Because I feel that she can help others and is a very helpful and wonderful teacher. And she knows what she is doing.
21. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
glad I took this class from this instructor.
I like her, she is very good, and was always helpful to me. I was happy to be in the class, but sad that I wasnt able to give it everything
Great instructor even if we didn't get to meet face to face.
Thank you for a great semester. I enjoyed being your student and would love to have you for an instructor for any other classes you would teach.
She seemed very caring although i havent meet her, it seemed as she was a nice person.
Good job Mrs. Alvarez! I had a great experience with you, as a teacher! I will be seeing you soon, in another class sometime.
Thank you very much for helping me that much!!^_^
By far, the best history instructor I have ever had! I actually feel like I learned and developed a greater appreciation for history.
I enjoyed her class.
Enjoyed her teaching.
I would definitely take this teacher if she taught another course. I'm sure she does so I would try to take one of her courses.
I am glad to have had the pleasure to take her course and learn all that I have in the length of her course.
i just really liked that she commented on all our work. it really helped me because i always knew how to improve the next asignment.

she's nice.
Thank You!
she did a great job
That she is great and i am happy and greatful to have her as my instructor. Even though i am always turning my work toher very late, i am happy that she is very concern about me. And that she also helps me in anyway.

24. What did you like most about your online course experience?
Flexibility of doing things. I did not have to worry about going into class.
That i did'nt have to go to class, i could sign in
The fact that I could attend classes in the comfort of my home, especially since I have young children.
I could do things on my own time.
That I did not have to go on campus to complete any tests, quizzes, meet in person. I could complete and study assignments from the comfort of my own home without any rushing. I love being able to know exactly when my assignments are due and know that it is completely up to me to rely on myself to get things done.
I was able to do the work when I had time and the instructor was clear about what she expected from the students.
It was convenient.
I liked the helpful modules link within the Laulima course page because Mrs. Alvarez utilized this section to the fullest by giving her students helpful tips and links to resources that would help us with the quizzes. Being in an online course is very helpful if you are a busy person with lots of other things going on in your life. Mrs. Alvarez was really good with understanding other student's hectic lives by giving us great deadline times.
I do not have to go to class everyday and take the class anywhere anytime.
The convenience of being able to work from home and have some flexibility with the assignments.
I could do the work at my own pace for the most part, which comes in handy when you have little ones to tend to. Online courses are the only way I can continue my education due to my household duties.
Flexibility and not having to drive to campus.
Learning to navigate through an online course. Learning to communicate with my class mates online.
didn't have to drive to KCC for class
It was very convenient becuse I am able to have more free time to do other important things as well.
Flexibility
I liked the time lines on the assignments, they weren't too long where I would forget about them, but they weren't too short where I wouldn't have enough time to finish them or feel tied down.
I liked the freedom of doing class stuff at my convenience.
I liked learning a lot of different capabilities an online course has to offer students. It's very interesting and can quite exciting to undertake while going to college.
works with my schedule
Not going to the classroom!
after you get the hang of it, it became very easy to navigate.
It was online.
it was very convenient for me because of having work involved.
Even though we never met face to face with anyone in this class I still got to meet new people in other ways also I was amazed at how much information i gained
i could learn at my own pace.
I'm happy I didn't have to go to school twice a week and deal with parking at KCC like my boyfriend did. I'm probably getting a better grade and have probably learned more from her class.
This class
the convenience
meeting everyone. Also leaarning new things that i never new before. Like online class and also that i know that online class is not for me. But i greatful to try out new things for a chance.
25. What did you like least about your online course experience?
Never got to meet my professors face to face.
The fact that i couldn't forward anything to my e-mail. I would be able to manage everything so much better. and that there was a lot of work.
Nothing.
That Laulima did stall or was unable to log on in the beginning of semester because of the overload on Laulima. Also, sometimes when working late may run into the daily maintenance for Laulima.
It some times creates a lazy attitude because one can just take open book tests instead of having to actually read.
no face to face interaction
The only thing that I did not like about my online course experience was the timed quizzes because taking quizzes online can be very nerve wrecking if something with your computer or internet connection comes up, other than that, I loved my online course experience!
To keep on track for the due date of assignment.
the amount of reading that I was responsible for in short periods-it's difficult to comprehend all of that material, retain it and be tested. Also the fact that I have never met Professor Alvarez and was unable to interact with fellow classmates face to face. For the collaborative writing assignment some partners were less that responsible and that fell on my shoulders in order to complete the assignment-if there was a way to insure more participation from others. However, that may be somewhat unrealistic.
There is nothing that I did not like.
Trying to work on a group project when the other participants were unresponsive.
Nothing
trying to remember when things are due
I dislike that some teachers are barely there sometimes or respond when you ask for help.
I'd forget about assignments.
Nothing. Everything was good.
If my computer was acting up, I had to go find another to do course work.
I didn't like how somethings are set up in the course cause it can be a bit confusing for newbies.
it's easy to get behind if you don't stay on top of things
Laulima and this powered by Sakai crap! Horrible!!! Find a better company to design Laulima!
the convinience of being able to do all our work online. student-teacher communication was done through email. we turned in all our work online. we never really had to go to school for anything except for exams.
Lots of reading and writing
that when i had a question it could not be answered immediately.
Sometime the site would not work for me
Sometimes classmates make the experience more fun. But nothing bothers me about online learning.
no physical class to show up in but it ended up great
Actually nothing really. But i know that it is hard if you do homework and turn it in late. And its hard to catch up.
