12. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
|
| I feel that the things we learned will benefit any of us in any career path,
but especially with business courses. |
| The way of see things, levels of significance! I think plenty thing now can be measured and
from that take a perspective about if it s going to work or not! |
| The class was overall very fun to learn from, I had learned that not everything in statistics is as easy as pie. |
| Learning statistics can be applied to all types of jobs and in everyday life, so it is a good subject to
be knowledgable about. |
| Knowing the importance of confidence testing as well as the uses of standard deviations and other
measures of central tendency that give you truly what you were looking for. |
| Knowing how to analyze data and interpret it correctly is very important for any business professional. My understanding of this material will hopefully help me in my professional career later on in life. |
| I appreciate more about statistics and its use after taking this class |
| Every topic this course covered is essential to me because it helps me understand decision
making more in depth |
| Professor Port helps me to really learn the material and not just the formula. I feel that I understand
the material very well and I am intrigued to Statistics. I will take another course with him. I would
say, he is the best professor for BUS310! |
| I got a lot of things. I learned more things about how to use and apply the statistics and other things that I learned in class to actual cases. This course also helped me get a better understanding of what is to come in future Shidler Business School classes which helped, since some of the things that I learned in this class applies to many other classes. |
| Nothing |
| As an entrepreneur major, the information I gained from this course will help me look at numbers in a more strategic manor. |
| Learning about statistics and the mindset to think differently when looking
at situations or numbers. |
| The importance of reading and analyzing statistical data properly. |
| A lot of the statistics i learned in class death with real life situations; i.e., job interviews, future
careers, etc. I am sure that all the things I learned in class will benefit me in the future. |
| I enjoyed going to every one of his classes. And I expecially liked his willingness to help me and my classmates in to understanding the subject. |
| I definitely enhanced my skills in the use of excel, especially PH-Stat |
| My future in marketing will require some basic analysis of numbers which bus 310 gave me some
tools to do. |
| Even though stats is definitely still not my strong point, I really enjoyed Daniel Port's class. He was super helpful and really put forth a HUGE amount of effort to help us out. I would highly recommend this class. |
| Not procrastinate, always study, and don't stress out too hard. |
| Learning about whether lines on graphs are normal or not. |
| hypothesis testing |

24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
|
| I liked going over the problem set information in class so we could learn and
apply the information we were learning in class to a real situation. |
| Professor had the power of convert something hard into a subject which could be understood
in a better way! Also he always gave real examples to a better understand of the contend ! I
really liked a lot this course |
| I liked that he had a lot of enthusiasm. So our class was able to be pumped to learn statistics. |
| The class periods were always helpful and we covered a lot of us useful information. The extra credit
quizzes were also very helpful. |
| I like when he did examples on the board or walked us through the problems step by step. It was easier to follow his train of thought that way. |
| I like how he used topics that are interesting and showed examples on the topic with statistics |
| The professor |
| Professor Port is very good at communication. The course material is very difficult and hard to
understand, but he explains the material as if it's a piece of cake. I like the course a lot! |
| The teacher was laid back enough, but strived to get his students to learn as much as they could. This meant that there wasn't much pressure but I still was able to learn a lot. Also I liked that the Problem Sets were broken up and given extra time if we needed it. That really helped, especially since towards the latter half of the semester, I was struggling more with the Problem Sets. |
| The ease of the grading |
| I liked the fact that we would go over specific examples in class that were very closely related, if not the actual problem set, to our homework. I also liked that he listened to his class and moved things around occasionally, understanding the class' difficulty with some problem sets. |
| Professor's assistance and reviews. |
| I like that he was willing to take class time to go over problems and questions that we had on the
homework. |
| A few semesters ago, I took ECON321 which is a Economic-focused statistics course. I didn't expect
to learn much in this course, as I had aced my other statistics course. But to my surprise, I learned
so much more! |
| I liked that we did a ton of working on excel it was helpful to apply the worded problems into excel. |
| I liked the chalk talks. When using the computer it was often hard to follow and difficult to translate
from mac to pc. Also the problem set hints were the most helpful thing about the class. I would
probably have received C's on the problem sets without the hints. |
| The problem sets aren't too complicated, the study guides, the extra credit helps not to stress on everything too much, and the lectures. |
| Port demonstrated his knowledge of the material very well. |
|
|
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
|
| I liked the things we did in class. I guess the group problems we did were
kind of difficult, and it's hard to learn from it without going over answers
and stuff. Otherwise, the course was okay, just some of the material was
difficult to comprehend. |
| The PHStat |
| The student's lack of participation was an issue. |
| N/A |
| I don't like that the program used for most of our homework wasn't easily workable on the Mac. It was way more difficult, confusing and time consuming. |
| Sometimes the lecture is too long, it will be better with half lecture and half activites |
| When we had a sub professor |
| Professor Port might be very busy, and he is not very prepared for class. That doesn't mean he's a
bad professor, but in fact. I believe he is the best professor in BUS310. |
| none. I liked all parts of the course. |
| The entire class in general |
| Problem Sets. |
| I wished there was more time for our exam. Since that is generally not an option, perhaps shorter tests, or more frequent tests that cover less material. |
| ph stat. |
| The book was a pain. Loose leaf books are very difficult to work with. i found a lot of the material
online, so paying for this book was essentially a waste of money! |
| Nothing much, the problem sets were a bit tedious but it was needed. |
| PHstat which felt more confusing than helpful. |
| NOTHING. |
| None |
|
|
26. Other comments:
|
| Very energetic professor! He understands the problems that we have and tries
his best to go over different ways to help us to understand what we are
learning. He really wants to learn the material really well before moving on
and I really liked that since I'd want to make sure I absolutely learned
something before continuing. |
| I had something in my mind before the semester begin , which was terrifying me about
professor port! I had friends saying that he was lazy, never had office hours, always coming
late to class, the test were very hard, people saying that take his class would be a wast of
time!! So I got pretty scared ! Now after semester is done I wish ALL StUDENTs could take his
class, he is the BEST far way. Professor Port is incredible , he knows a lot and he wants to
share it! I can see he loves his job and it inspires me! I hope I can find more professors like
him! He is awesome !!! Just would like to say THANK YOU for the opportunity of be part of
professor Port class! He really motivates me on my student life ! Thank you professor port for
every thing!!!!! |
| I will admit the beginning parts of the class was boring, but nearing the middle, it got more interesting, and a much more enjoyable course. |
| Thank you for a great semester. |
| All in all I think this was a good course. I learned a lot and feel like I have a better understanding of the material. The problem sets were disheartening at times because we didn't do much computer work. This was probably due to so many people having Macs vs. PCs and he could only do examples for PC users. Not his fault, but PhStat is difficult to use on the Mac. Perhaps it would be beneficial for the stats professors to be as fluent in excel w/PhStat on the Mac as they are on PCs that way all students have the opportunity to get the "click-by-click" examples. This class wasn't a typical, boring Statistics class though. You can tell Port is really passionate about his job and wants everyone to succeed. He kept it light but made sure we stayed on task. Overall I enjoyed the class. |
| good professor |
| I learned a lot in BUS310 class, and I feel confident. Now, I just feel that Port did not challenged me
enough. He should teach me more of the material in the course. I want to learn even more. Way to
go, Professor Port!!! |
| Nothing against Port but I really couldn't get a good grasp on this class |
| Overall I enjoyed the class and would recommend it to other students. |
| Excellent instructor! |
| Professor Port is very enthusiastic about statistics but I felt that his lectures were hard to follow. He
would begin a problem and then say that it should be done a different way. I found this confusing. |
| Prof Port is very enthusiastic about Statistics! He obviously enjoys his jobs and loves to help his
students. A really great professor for all business students first enter Shidler College! |
| Great teacher. Highly recommended. |
| Professor Port was very enthusiastic and caring about the students |
| Great teacher!!! Great energy !!! I will miss his classes for sure!!
He always gives 110% in every class!! Always willing to help!!! |
| HE ROCKS!! |
