17. What did you like most about your online course experience?
I could do my work whenever i had time so it made it easier than actually going to a class.
I enjoyed the flexibility to take control of my own learning while working full-time duringt the summer.
learing how to write for a business type audience
Being able to learn in the convenience of my own home, or wherever I chose. Although an English course would be better taken in person, some people aren't able to put it in their schedule, so I'm glad this one was available online.
Class time independence
I liked that I could be anywhere and still be able to complete my assignments on time.
I liked the flexibility it allowed me to have with my schedule. I also liked that I could be anywhere and still complete the assignments.
I liked being able to work at my own pace and schedule. Because of the schedule already given in the syllabus and Professor Zuern being very good about updating us through emails, I was able to plan ahead and work around my schedule if need be.
It was a lot easier for me to do my work on my own terms.
The flexibility to do the day's assignments whenever i had the time. Not having to wake up early to go to class.
I liked that the professor was helpful and that we could turn in things a little late without getting penalized because it is hard to keep track of online classes with work and such going on.
Although I would normally say that I would rather work at my own pace and not have work every day, this was not the case in this class. Having work due every day helped me to keep up with the workload and not get far behind because I know I would have procrastinated if not for the due dates. The pace was steady and nothing too overwhelming.
I enjoyed the interactions with the different students. I felt less timid to express my opinions. I also liked the fact I was challenged to time manage better.
The flexibility of being able to do the work when it fit in my schedule.
I liked the convenience of being able to work on the assignments at my own pace and not having to take the time to go to a classroom for lecture notes. It is also nice to be able to buy a textbook and get full usage out of it for a class. I also liked that I was able to take this course without having to physically be in Hawaii.
I liked that he gave us a schedule of the assignments beforehand, that way it gave us a chance to plan our schedule accordingly. It was very convenient.
Professor Zuern was always available to help when I needed and he replyed to emails promptly.
I enjoyed all the feedback i got back from Professor Zuern, he is very good at answering questions and very nice. A great teacher!
Mr. Zuern was very involved in our work. I wasn't expecting there to be so much communication between the teacher and student in this class. I thought it was very effective.
It was independent but I still felt guided in the learning experience.
Although it was an online course, examples were clear and very helpful. and the professor could be reached very easily and was always very helpful
Professor Zuern always kept students up-to-date on assignment objectives and sue dates.
Save time going to campus.
Its mostly flexible around my schedule and I don't have to go to class.
18. What did you like least about your online course experience?
It was a little difficult communicating with others.
There was nothing liked least in this online course.
the amount of assignments assigned
I guess it would be the fast-pace, though since it is a summer course, that is expected.
The group project was somewhat hard to collaborate on with some students living on the east coast and others living in Hawaii
Laulima downtime
I disliked that there was an assignment due everyday of the week, it seemed to be a little extensive for a summer course. I also disliked the group project portion, because it is very difficult to collaborate with 5 people over the internet when they are living in different parts of the world at the time. It is also more difficult to do group work when you can not meet in person.
I liked everything. There was nothing I didn't like.
It was a little difficult to do the assignments during the same time that we are working on the group project. I felt that I couldn't work at my full potential for both the assignments and the project because I was splitting my attention and concentration between multiple assignments for the same class.
nothing everything was good
Harder to effectively communicate with both the professor as well as group mate for the collaborative report. I am in New Jersey, and two of my group mates were in Cali and well as two more in Hawaii, coordinating between 3 time zones and various schedules is tricky, but not impossible.
The group project was a little hard to coordinate because of the time differences and we don't really know the people we are working with.
It was a bit difficult to work in the collaborative teams. Being an online course definitely made meeting up more difficult. However, John helped by creating chatrooms for each team to communicate in.
Waiting for feedback from classmates and the teacher is tough when you're trying to work on something and it's fresh in your mind.
The group project. It was hard to find a time everyone could meet
For this class we had a group assignment so it was difficult to coordinate everyone's schedules for an online summer course. Sometimes it is easier to have someone there to physically explain things to you if you don't understand something.
I didn't care for the group report assignment. I think the group was too big, for an online class. It was hard to meet up at the same time for chat meeting. Also it was difficult to write a single, cohesive report with people who aren't really on the same page as you.
The group project is too difficult to coordinate with so many different schedule and in such a short amount of time.
This class is very fast paced and intensive, i wish i took it during a regular semester so i could have more time.
Having assignments due everyday. I know it helps to keep you on track and that you can work ahead, but sometimes they creep up on you.
Working with classmates I couldn't physically work with.
There was a lot of reading and assignments due everyday instead of end of week
None
Personal life interference.
Probably the chatroom, since one time it kept logging me off.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Challenging but doable.
My professor required much peer interaction which I thought gave this online class a human interactive aspect that I enjoyed.
the projects and opportunities work on hw i could use for my future
Besides being able to do the course on my own time, I enjoyed the examples and the course reader.
I liked how Professor Zuern effectively communicated through frequent emails, memos, and comments.
Same as 17.
The best aspect is being able to complete the assignments on my own time and in my own chosen environment. I didn't have to commute which saved on gas and I could accomplish a multitude of other things while still getting my course work done.
I liked the chat room. This was a very useful tool that I have yet to use in any other previous classes, especially for the group project.
communicating with my peers
Learning how to compile a resume as well as application letter.
I liked that the professor was nice and that there was no penalty for turning in things a little late.
John was always very prompt and efficient in answering the students' questions. He was always consistent in his online office hours and if he was unable to make it, he promptly sent out emails alerting us. He replied to emails very quickly and was always willing to help. In addition, he took care in going over each of our assignments and always gave back very thorough and helpful feedback.
John was very involved in the class. He was very available and I liked the consistency of the workload.
The skills learned from the different assignments, how to deal with complaints and how to communicate effectively.
I liked the resume and memo part. Memos and resumes I know I will be using in my future, and I learned a lot about them.
The aspect I liked the most was how Professor Zuern gave us feedback. I liked that he used the Track Changes feature to give us detailed and personal feedback on my work.
I liked getting his input on my writing assignments the best
The curriculum. I thought the information was useful and important for all business majors.
Learning to write effective memos and letters.
Chat availability for help
The concepts were fairly easy to learn.
Feedbacks and looking at what other students did on assignments.
I like that its online and that there is a 2 day grace period.
20. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
It was a little difficult.
It was a little difficult to finish assignments the night of, every weekday night, but besides that everything was great!
none
The e-book was a major downfall. I did not like paying nearly $70 for the e-book and its software. The e-book reader software is quite difficult to navigate. Students had to go through the pains of downloading software plus its updates, on top of downloading the e-book separately. PDF versions would have worked better.
Writing assignments everyday.
There was nothing that I didn't like.
I thought all aspects were good.
everything was good
Some of the assignments felt mundane/silly.
I did not like the group projects.
Nothing!
I wasn't a huge fan of the book or some of the earlier assignments.
Some of the homework assignments were difficult and you do not have the luxury of being able to communicate in person to have something explained to you. Sometimes instructions for assignments were not clear and it is easier to have them explained to you in person.
none, some where harder then others, but i believe they were all beneficial
The aspect I liked the least was not having the face to face interaction but that can't be helped for an online course.
How fast paced it is, wasn't prepared for it
None, really.
The inconsistent office hours from the teacher.
the reading
None
The book was expensive. I wanted to see more of how other students were doing on assignments and how they were responding to the various situations.
None that I can think of.
21. Other comments:
Great Professor, definitely cares about his students and makes an effort.
This course exceeded my expectations. I thought I was already a good writer, but this course challenged my skills and showed me many areas to improve. The course content has proven to be extremely valuable to me. I would suggest not using the e-book version in the future. It would be nice to redirect students to buying or borrowing a used version of the book, especially because it's an older edition. For example, I found an Amazon seller advertising the paperback version for a few cents plus $3.99 for shipping. Unfortunately, the company cannot do refunds on e-books.
Simply because communication with the professor was so easy and readily available I didn't feel isolated from a "classroom" environment. I would recommend this course to anyone and have new positive insight to what it's like taking online courses.
Overall this class was very helpful and I feel that I learned a lot from this course.
Very good teacher and I enjoyed this class it taught me lots of important concepts that can benefit me in the long run.
Very great professor!
Thank you John. You made my online class experience very memorable... In a good way :)
Great class! Enjoyed it and learned a lot!
