23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?

The outdoor field trip to Ho'omaluhia was fun. I also liked that we got to paint for 3 hrs in class. I liked being able to express ourselves individually without fear of ridicule. For our home assignments we were free to do the work in our own way with our own style being able to work in class and yet get help from other students as well as the teacher if i was having trouble understanding how to use a certain painting technique. and if i was getting frustrated, mrs.horne would still compliment my work and help me figure out a way to improve myself. She is always there to help you and is a very creative teacher! All of the creative freedom. The in class assignments In my previous experience with art classes, the teacher would dictate us and tell us how to do our art and what to make. Rebecca Horne allowed us to work more freely, allowing us to explore water painting on our own and allowing us to discover our own techniques. She had also introduced us to other techniques of painting that we may or may have incorporated into our work through out the semester. She had introduced us to other painters through out the times, showing us their work and what their known for. She would talk to us about their inspirations and their techniques in the hopes of inspiring us to perhaps make works similar to these artists. Mrs. Horne, though she did tell us what to paint, she gave us a broad area of still life in class and we got to choose what we wanted to paint from there. She gives us broad themes, and left it to us to narrow it down to what exactly we want to do in class and in our homework assignments.

24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

Missing class = lower grade. There was a lot of techniques required to produce a decent piece. some students were too loud and interrupted the class. the lenght of class was too long! None. I loved it all. Nothing Although I enjoyed painting, getting familiar with old and new techniques, and we had ALOT of time to paint and speak our minds if we had a question or something to discuss about the class, I felt that perhaps our instructor could maybe be a little bit more involved in our activities although it is understandable if she has other works to attend to. It would have been interesting seeing her take on some of our assignments like with some of the still life we had to do. Though we have seen her work when we would go outside of the class and paint buildings, trees, or other forms of nature, it would have been interesting watching how she would approach it and see her methods and techniques first hand.

25. My overall evaluation of this course is...

It is a good course. I would recommend for people who are very diligent in their work and do things on time in a orderly fashion. very good. I would strongly suggest that someone take this course if they are looking to expand their artistic avilities this course was very informative to me and i have gotten better from taking it. I love it ! An awesome experience in art. The instructor has a vast knowledge of the subject matter and the class is fun and challenging Personally, it has been ages since I have been in an art class such as this one. I chose to stay away from them for the longest time because of my previous experiences with them. However, I am happy to say that I enjoyed this course very much. Not only have I enjoyed learning about water painting but I have also managed to befriend many of my own class mates.

26. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.

Less at home assignments. More demonstration of painting in class. this course could be improved if the student book store would have the right materials in stock instead of having only the class kit. it would also help if we had a little more class time to work on our projects. other than that, this class was awesome. Make the class a bit more interesting I would like to do more postcards. More class time to work on projects Perhaps it would have been more interesting to have more official group work. Perhaps have several people group together to collaborate on an assignment. Something similar with what we had done in the beginning of the semester but that was more on the lines of exploration. It would be interesting to see several people with different techniques and different views band together and create a work of art.

23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?

i like that we were able to focus on a lot of different aspects of art and after learning each one got to use it cumulatively in our other projects. that she let me be the artist that i am. weather the art was good or bad, she showed me how to improve. The whole course was very interesting, I actually learned how to draw even though I had no idea how to draw before this class. I used to be very terrible when I did try to draw anything. able to develop own interpretation of concepts, interesting information + topics, allowed to listen to music, peer group critic of art, individual help from the teacher I enjoyed that it was a studio class. We were able to explore art as a participant and student, rather than just as a spectator. All, I love art! I learned alot Overall I enjoyed the whole course. I felt like I gained more knowledge to draw and observe better. The class projects I liked the fact that I could see my artwork progress from being simple to very detailed. I also liked the challenges set before me. I like how we have our projects every week. It is really helpful in improving our drawing skills by applying what we learned in class. Also, whenever we turn in our project, we always talk about each other's art work. We discuss, as a class, the drawing techniques that each of us have used to create our piece. What I like best about her class is learning about the different styles and technique of art. Learning about relationships of objects and forming the structure of your piece before applying concret. Looking back at our drawings I feel like we have progress a lot since the first assignment. I really liked the drawing assignments that she gave us. It really helped out a lot to improve our drawing skills. I enjoyed ART 113 with Rebecca Horne she knows what she's talking about and she puts things in ways that me as the student will understand... Hands on work with feedback, suggestions and tips before, during and after. I loved that she was very open and easy to talk to. I love how she was very inviring to everyone in the class. The aspects of the course that I liked the best was that she was a very welcoming teacher. Always willing to teach the students step by step, and also had the patients for the students who were really struggling in this class. Our class became really close because we were so open with sharing our thoughts about all of our drawings. I really liked working with different materials. I got to experience working with mediums that I had never used before, and I was good at it. The medium made all the difference. I was interested in learning new techniques for more successful drawing and I did learn them 100% to my ability.

24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

i didnt like that the perspective section :/ i liked it all. I hated the hallway drawing by the Hawaiian center because the wind kept blowing my paper all around. I also hated that the book store didn't gather all the things we needed for the class. spending money on buying paper for each project about once a week, some supplies needed to be refilled halfway through semester (charkole, compressed charkole, newsprint), excess supplies (one box vine charcoal used, other unopened) suggestions to where to buy art supplies outside of school (when bookstore is close, or runs out of supplies) There wasn't much that I didn't enjoy. I do wish that we had more time to work. Well the fact that you have to listen to somebody but thats every where you go, so what can ya do. She encouraged one rather obnoxious student interrupt and talk over everyone else during weekly 'group disscussions' and critiques. Soft spoken people don't stand a chance in terms of participation. She would assign multiple hour assignments with little notice over the weekends. This is not fair to students woth weekend work schedules. It would have been nicer to get such time consuming assignments at least a week in advance. In the beginning I hated how we had to draw on the big sheets of paper, but towards the ending of the semester it got easier and I was glad we had a challenge. Nothing There was nothing I didn't not like. I don't have anything that I did not like in this class. It's hard not to love her class! I feel some of the assignments were a repeat of the assignment from last week. So basically I feel like I am doing the same thing as before when it comes to class assignments. The amount of time we had to put in for the hw drawings. BUt it was still fun in a way. There wasn't really anything that I didn't like about the course... Class was long (understandable) but sometimes went too slow. Read the class' level of participation/energy and make changes if necessary. (class is bored and not focused - maybe take them outside or change some element of the drawing environment to get every re-excited). the thing i liked the least would have to be the homework, but only becuase it was sometimes frustrating in a helpful way There is no aspect of this course that i liked the least, been through alot of struggles but it was worth the fustration because I got to learn so much about drawing as well as myself. There's nothing about the course that I didn't enjoy, personally.

25. My overall evaluation of this course is...

i think the course is great :) even though its a long block when we actually get to doing the art it goes by really fast! i really like art and this course challeged me to step outside my comfort zone. i give it an A+ Out of all my classes, Drawing 131 was my favorite and the only class I would have my mind on because my other classes were not that engaging. I won't forget the teacher and my classmates in the class. very good and interesting, improved understanding and techniques in art I thought it was an excellent course. I learned drawing techniques and used media that I never would have used otherwise. I ended put producing works that I would never have thought I would be able to create. This art class helped me improve my artistic skills and knowledge. I now know what materials are and to be used when creating an art piece. A good one, cause art is related to everything, math, history and even readings. I hated this class. She exploded at us several times, the majority of these outbursts happened when the we were simply confused about what she wanted from us. I hope in future classes she can make her lectures less diluted and expectations more clear. That being said, she is a kind woman, and a decent teacher. I learned a lot this semester. It was one of my favorite courses to take. I enjoyed Ms.Horne and our class and I feel like I'm walking away with more knowledge and skills. The class is fun and chanellging That I would recommend this to anyone who is an aspiring artist. This course is fun, exciting, and challenging. It's fun in a way that Ms. Rebecca Horne has a sense of humor. It's exciting because every week, we learn new things. And it's challenging because every homework really challenges our learning capabilities about art My overall evaluation of this course is 10 out of 10. This is because this is a very fun class to take. The teacher makes the class exciting. Also her teaching techniques builds us the confidence to preform and produce better quality work. I would highly recommand this class. I really liked this course. The class was very fun and entertaining. overall i give Rebecca a 10 +++++ Positive. Though the course work can get tedious, you can see your improvements over the weeks. The information the professor gave us always attributed to learning and developing. it's a great course with a great teacher whom i really do admire. My overall evaluation of this course would be wonderful and creative. Everyday was an exciting day, even though we had struggles with our drawings Ms. Horne would always make it fun. i think if we didnt have to buy so many additional things throughout he course it would have been better. one way i think it could be more improved is one class session let the students draw or paint what ever they like, the other way to make the class more improved is give group projects. Nothing, this teacher knows what she is doing for this class. Give more time for in class still life assignments, at least two days. Work with different types of paper. More time and a more comprehensive materials list. I already have. I think Ms. Horne did a good job as is. I can't think of any other ways it can be improved. more class time It was taught profoundly. This course can be improved by having more drawings! i love drawing! Give us more time to finish work in class so we could have a feel of the art structure and point being brought out. I honestly think there should have been more aspects of color in the class. There was only black and white drawings that i felt like it wasnt enough. i like the class and it doesn't need improvement... Rebecca did an outstanding job... Because it's a long class period, breaking it up into sections to keep everyone focused and energy up. Allowing students to get higher than 100% on a piece if they resubmit after applying feedback from professor and class. i wouldnt change anything about this course at all. Ms. Horne is doing an amazing job already. Nothing could really be improved. I was satisfied with the course and can't think of anything to improve.

23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?

I learned a lot of good information through arts. She teached us the way very anderstandable and clear. That the class was very interactive and had a free flowing sort of feeling as far as in class assignments went. The environment of the class was inviting and somewhat calming. What I like about the course is that each assignment has a fun side and it really helps improve a person's painting skills. Also, Ms. Horne always encourages to ask any questions if help is needed and she would always be there. I also like how everyone helps critique a person's artwork because there are many different aspects from an artist and not just one or two. I liked how much freedom we were given. Painting still lifes. everything painting from real life The still lifes I was mostly interested in learning new techniques, which she taught me. Assignments were clearly explained on how to to. She showed us many examples. We were able to learn many styles of painting. I also love the fact that I can now use the art terminology comfortably. I loved the critiques that we did for every painting. I learned a lot from Rebecca Horne and my fellow classmates. I also liked the time we had in class painting and asking questions if we had any.

24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

nonne There is nothing that I like least about the class...I just think this class is wonderful. I wish we would of been provided with more time paint what we wanted to do opposed to so many still lives. Painting discussions. none painting still life Landscape The medium. I took painting because I was bad at it and wanted to learn how to use it better. I did learn how to use it better, but I also learned that I don't really like painting. I really enjoyed the class. Only thing that concerned me from the course was the cost of the art supplies. I don't have anything to add.

25. My overall evaluation of this course is...

I am glad i took this course and very enjoyed. I thought the class overall was pretty good! Very interactive among students along with the teacher. Some freedom given as far as taking a short break and going down to the bookstore to get required or replenish materials needed but individuals must be responsible with this privilege as it is sort of rarely given by teachers. I think this class is great! I would take this class again. This class was fun and I learned new things from the teacher. the best 10 out of 10 Good For those who like painting, this course will teach you the basic necessary techniques for better painting. I really enjoyed Ms. Horne's class. I learned so much and was able to become a better painter. Now I can understand the different aspects of art. Overall it was a great experience for me and I would recommend this class to anyone. I would love to take her class again because it was fun and educational!

Can be gotten a little more time for a drawing. That's all. I think one way the class could be improved is that there should be a sign next to the still lives stating something like "please do not touch the still life" or "please do not move the still life" so that the other art classes know whether the materials are still being in use. Or Ms. Horne could just remind each art class that the other art classes still needs the still life. This class could be improved by giving the students more options of what to paint, because if we find the assignment boring we won't put a lot of effort into it. If we are excited about a project will we will really hard. i like this course the way it is now. painting from real life instead of still life I'll get back to you on that I was really discouraged by time constraints. I feel like I could have made better paintings and not have been so frustrated if maybe the paintings were smaller and less time consuming. I think there isn't anything that needs to be improved I think the school should support Rebecca Horne if she needs anything!

The freedom for each individual to develop their own style through challenging but rewarding assignments. Everything! Great Class. Learning how to draw stuffs By the end of the semester, the class felt like a family. Rebecca Horne is very approachable and easy to talk to. She strives to always have her students reach for their full potential. I liked the procedures and steps of learning basic art. And the projects we do. In general, the class was awesome. I enjoyed everything that we did and my drawing skills improved a lot. I learned so many techniques and I enjoyed doing all of our assignments. Being able to critique each other objectively. I like seeing the other student's artwork. I like the feeling of getting surprised by how each student does his or her artwork in a special unique way. I like best about this class is when we draw fruit or Vegetable. I like the fact that the class is open to everyone. No matter what level of art experience you are at, the class starts you off at the basics and you build off from that. I learned a lot about drawing techniques and art history. i liked the inside class work. I think because it was very helpful to have the teacher there to correct me if it looked funny. I liked the open feeling of the classroom: students were encouraged to give feedback and encourage/critique each other. Also, the critiques given at the end of each assignment were helpful. -- snipped -- the free expression I liked that she required us to critique each other. Our class as a whole became close knit and was able to honestly share their thoughts on other peoples work. Sometimes it is really hard to flip a switch in your brain and just be in the mood to draw simply because it is 10 am on Tuesday, however, Ms. Horne gave great suggestions on how to overcome that. Trying to draw nice every weekend The classes are lengthy. It's three hours long. I liked the whole course. -- snipped -- Nothing. I don't like working on the floor and standing up. :P The hardest project was when we have to draw the liquid. none. I like this course and i would recommend it to anyone. i think homework was hard for me this year because during the week-ends i would always be packed with things to do, and art takes time... but i did learn from it. The necessary evils of drawing boxes while learning about perspective. I would have liked it better if we could start our homework in class, since there was so much of it. dE NADA. I liked the class very much. Have the bookstore supply all the supplies that this art class needs, such as India Ink, and more. The course is fine the way it is. Basically it doesn't have to be changed at all. -- snipped -- There's nothing I would improve. I would like have projects where we get to use more of the craypas. I would like to do a drawing outside. Maybe if the course had longer class hours because there are times that we need more time to work on projects. Maybe have group disscussions on artwork so that students have more experience with interacting with each other. Maybe some outside studio work. i really do like it the way it is. Perhaps in the beginning of the course, emphasis could be placed on the importance of students giving feedback on one another. For our class, it seemed less important at the beginning of the course, and more important as the course went on. -- snipped -- More socialization. More smaller assignments. She gave us the feeling to feel free when you paint and that was a plus because I wasnt really a good painter. Being able to express my creativity through artwork was awesome. It was a comfortable environment to learn in. painting the best aspect of this course was the painting i had to remake a famous painters painting. even if it took time it was worth it.

EVERYTHING Drawing My instructor allowed me to solve problems with my understanding of theories and concepts. She then gave advice on how to improve on my projects. Finally, she would then ask me if there is anything I could do to improve my piece. The reason being was to push the boundaries of what I already know. This is a challenge that I believe every instructor should present to every student. the many homework we were given were good in understanding, learning, and training skills. the actual work was the best. What I like best about this class is if you think you suck at drawing stick men, you will be amazed at what she teaches you by the end of her course. She taught me valuable tricks and pointers to make me a better artist. Course taught us to really observe our environment and subject matter, to analyze it and make decisions about it for the purpose of each assignment. We had to learn how to come up with creative solutions whenever we hit an obstacle. We were exposed to the historical and cultural aspect of art, and to how it applies to society in the present. These are all essential things we must learn in order to become a successful contributor to our community. I liked being able to improve my art skills and being able to see things from a different point of view. I like the atmosphere of the class, the way we do the critic session on every homework. I believe that it helps become a better artist, to try to change my faults and correct them. All

Very fun class Good Positive because challenging yourself makes you for a better person: one who can acknowledge his/her own strengths and weaknesses. good, skills are taught well. great teacher,great class, i learned alot. The instructor is awesome. She lets you appreciate your own work and see the artistic value of it, no matter how crappy you think you did. this is one of the best classes I have taken, the instructor is knowledgeable and makes learning that knowledge interesting and fun. I would recommend people take this class. This is an excellent course that teaches students to think critically and creatively, to analyze and interpret and to come up with solutions to problems on their own, and to think "outside of the box." These are skills every one needs to acquire. I loved it!! its helped me to become a better artist and a better thinker. I thought that class was really fun, I learned many different techniques. I helped me progress as a artist. GREAT, WONDERFUL... THERE REALLY IS NO WORD THAT I COULD USE TO EVALUATE, NOT ONLY THIS COURSE, BUT THE INSTRUCTER. I LOVE IT

nothing because she finds the best way to relate and teach the class! It is good as it is. Don't need improvement. Larger room none i cant really say how this class would improve. that is all. I don't think there is any improvement for this course because it's the way shes teaching. By making it a 10:30am class instead of 8:30am. N/A It would be great to have a larger room with more space. the instructor was forgetful at times i suppose this would also help the course. and finaly if the cost of supplies were intense, if the prices were lower this course would have been perfect! How to further look at things from a different perspective to understand light values and manipulate color. learning how to work with acrylic, and being able to be creative. Know how to glaze my painting! The professor was really pacient and helpful. She clearly knows how to make art as well as teach others how to make art. Being able to learn from fellow classmates. Ms Horne is a great artist and relates the course material and art skills to her students well. Her soft demeanor and gentle approach are the perfect combination for a teacher in her field. the best aspect of this course that i enjoyed the most was that we got to interact with our classmates and get others thoughts and ideas on how to improve our paintings. I really enjoyed the class as a whole. Everybody contributed a unique energy and the assignments were really creative. I liked painting.

24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

there was not a lot of time to complete each assignment i would end up staying after class to get the finished product that i wanted nothing. It was all very practical and useful practices. none. The cost of supplies -- snipped -- The class is not long enough sometimes, though we are given ample time to after class to finish any projects or work that needs to be done. There almost seems to be too many assignments, or not enough time to finish them, however, this can't be faulted to Ms. Horne since I understand that we need to do these activities to become better painters. -- snipped -- It's hard to take art classes along side normal "academic" classes. There were times where it was just too frustrating to finish the paintings to a degree where I was happy with them. I didn't like the long class hours. * Showing 7 out of 9 survey responses.

25. My overall evaluation of this course is...

excellentomundobundo!!! it is very useful and I liked the overall painting class. great and fun! I really enjoyed it and I was effectively taught how to paint as well as gaining the ability to look at art critically. It was a fun course that really brings out your creative side. Ms Horne is awesome and I feel like I had a great guide for finding my inner-artist, though at times, I felt overwhelmed due to the amount of time we had to spend on the course work and homework. my overall evaluation of this course is that the course was really fun and enjoyable. Good class, it's how I would want to structure a class myself. I would grade this course a B

More creative assignments. Actually this class shouldn't be improved. It is well organized and has good spacing. Instructor and students are nice. More students would have really helped the class since so much of what we learn is based off of understanding what people think and how they view ones artwork. With more input from more students, the ability to improve ones art is really increased. Less homework -- snipped -- do less still live paintings make drawing 101 a pre-req to this class, I feel like a lot of the trouble students had was due to a lack of experience with shapes, values, and observation. I would like this class to be two hours instead of three. Standing up for three hours has a lot of health . * Showing 7 out of 8 survey responses.

its art 1.) My instructor allowed me to solve problems with my understanding of theories and concepts. She then gave advice on how to improve on my projects. Finally, she would then ask me if there is anything I could do to improve my piece. The reason being was to push the boundaries of what I already know. This is a challenge that I believe every instructor should present to every student. 2.) Excursions for on-site paintings. This class allowed me to explore different methods of painting as well as the different styles of painting.

you people should do more to help create more classes Positive because I was able to to use what I know and combine it with new theories and art styles to expand and improve my artistic skills. Great, I was able to see that there is more than one than one way of painting. And it was proven with the projects that we have done in this class.
