19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?

I understand that nutrition is a new science and there is still much to be discovered, but for the sake of exams there should be more clarity on topics that may have a "wishy washy" answer.
I really liked the course itself, so I have no recommendations!
She try's different styles and combines power points with videos and activities which was fun
We cannot expect Dr. Shovic to know the answer to every question off the top of her head. Sometimes she said she would find out an answer but then never told us what it was. I would like it if she would write down these questions and look them up and give us her expert opinion on them at the next class or whenever.
The videos shown in class as well as the articles assigned to read were very helpful. Built on the knowledge from 185, which is always helpful when there is a direct correlation between classes to help further your understanding. No comments for improvement.
Study guides are too broad - sort of overwhelming and unsure of what to study for.
I think a review day would greatly help students know how they could study for the tests.
She shouldn't hand out the articles to read because it doesn't seem that she puts any emphasis on it and there's only like 1 or 2 questions on them in the exam. The powerpoints should be a lot more condensed, rather than broad because I can never predict the questions she will be asking. It would've been really helpful too if she provided a study guide for the final. Especially since there are so much ppts to go through along with the group presentations at the end of the semester. Also, some of the questions are very tricky on the exam. The questions are material that wasn't on the study guide and its random questions. I don't suggest having choices such as a) a and b, e) all of the above and etc.
She can stop making generalizations to the point of just saying wrong things. She can also learn what she's supposed to be teaching about! She couldn't explain down syndrome correctly, she didn't know what systolic/diastolic blood pressure was. She can't even pronounce diabetes! All from someone who supposedly has a PhD! And stop having so many pointless class exercises. I don't know why we're supposed to be surprised when jello is over 90% sugar, what the hell else is it going to be?
More KNOWLEDGABLE guest speakers. I.e. Medical professionals - like Dr. Watters guest speakers - Dr. King, local dietitians, etc.
I feel like because this course was so content dense, I would have benefited more if required weekly homework assignments were given out instead of three main assignments throughout the semester. Weekly assignments would have helped greatly to maintain better understanding of the concepts and better retention of what was taught in class; I haven't done so well on the exams for this class and felt that this approach to homework would have helped me do much better on the exams.

Some exam questions had many possible answers in the multiple choice. Such as it could have been both a and b but the correct answer was a. - not direct. However, I really like dr shovic, she's very friendly and has the warmest smile. She's very educated and I hope to pick her brain more as I go through the program.
Some of the test questions were not fair. Like the question about which diet got 4 stars. everyone put Weight Watchers but it was supposedly "none" was the answer. It was a trick question. Dr. Shovic shows much caring for her students wellbeing and this is a positive. She is engaged in the material and gives personal experience anecdotes which are often useful to illustrate something. She is also always available and says she can meet with you if need be.
Some of the questions on exams were a little unclear; I didn't feel that all of the questions were relevant to what we needed to learn from the class. How come we don't get our exams and assignments back to see what we got incorrect? Some of us don't have time to come up during office hours to look at the graded tests/assignments. Dr. Shovic's slides and lectures were helpful. The textbook was kind of bland and wordy; her slides helped to summarize and clarify the text. I enjoyed all of the videos she shared with us: all of them were very moving and impactful. I also appreciate how she shares always FSHN-related announcements: it shows she really cares about our involvement as students.
Dr. Shovic has such a wonderful personality and an enthusiasm when lecturing. Made the lectures very enjoyable even though a lot of information was being presented, it never felt overwhelming because she presented it clearly and concisely.
This class was horrible! Basically all of the questions on the test and everything she talked about in class were based on her personal opinion, not on facts; and most of her opinions are straight up wrong. She even asked us what our opinion on something was for a test question, but of course if it didn't agree with hers we would have gotten it wrong. Also, if a student ask her if something they did for an assignment was right, and she says yes, then she shouldn't mark the exact same thing wrong when the student turns it it.
Basic overview of nutrition. Did not learn much new.
I feel that some of the questions on the exam were either not clearly stated or tested on things that were too specific/things not stressed on in class. I think that perhaps the study guides for the course should be more specific about what we should study (perhaps specific terms/diseases/statistics) instead of just general lists of topics. In studying for the exams for this course, I felt a bit overwhelmed at times because there was so much content and the study guides were too general; I had a hard time trying to focus my studying and ended up not doing well on exams.

the contacts I made with nutrition professionals
The field experience that I had and all the journals I had to write weekly.
Outstanding Job.
the journals I wrote
The field experience itself.
The field experience
All the field work I did and the internship as a whole. I was able to apply classroom learning to real life.
The internship hours I spent. Being able to work with dietitians has helped me greatly with my future plans
Having such a great internship experience
My experiences at volunteer work- the people I met or what they have done to help me.
getting to work one-on-one with Dr. Shovic, and how she has help motivate and reassure me to be able to continue my education.
The first patients I worked with through my field experience; many of my classmates and their field experiences
the field experience I was able to participate in while enrolled in the course.
the field experience. And how that helped me. not really the in- class discussion
The weekly journal requirements. The weekly journal requirements were quite tiresome.

14. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think this course would be a little more useful if we took it two semesters before graduation instead of the semester immediately before graduation. The experience we get and the resume and interview skills we learn are needed sooner to be helpful for internship applications and job searches.
Great
Not teach it with animal science majors, and honestly I think this class should be taught during the junior year so that we can gain experience before the internship application process
The beginning portion of this course could be utilized to help dietetics students with the actual internship process. The process is difficult, lengthy and confusing. Not once did we receive adequate guidance or information as to what the process would be like. Showing students what to expect at the beginning of this semester or even prior to it would ensure that more dietetics students have the experiences necessary to apply, are guided through the process and are more likely to complete this degree with the intended purpose of applying to and receiving a dietetic internship upon graduation. At the very least show them the DICAS website so they will understand the importance of gaining real life experience, volunteer experience, and keeping grades high. The internship is not emphasized as much as it should be, especially being as competitive as it is.
Perhaps by ensuring that uploaded examples of assignments were "good" examples and followed the graded criteria.
N/A
I feel that there was no need to have drafts due. We should just turn in a final and that's it
If anything I would suggest putting better examples of ghantt charts, objectives, and resumes
I think everything was relevant, but maybe the final paper on our field experience could change a bit. The whole course was reflective, but the field paper isn't as reflective as the rest of the course.
I believe this class should be separated from Animal Science. This way Dr. Shovic can run the class completely on her own and the way she wants to. Also, this will give her more time to teach her students on how to apply for an dietetic internship, further our education, and about job opportunities.
Possibly speaking more about the internship application process during the first week of school.
Provide a list of places former students have interned to give new students an idea prior to coming into the semester.
Not teach about things we already should know how to do (resume, job interview)...Students should already know about this. Maybe if this class actually taught about the actual dietetic internship then it would be useful
Increase the amount of guest speakers. The career adviser presentations were quite helpful and I just read an article that says that 1 out 3 college graduates are jobless. So, more career advising may help students find jobs.
assist students to get an early start at finding their internship

Provide additional guidance in finding a field placement before this course starts. Loved the guest speakers. It was very helpful overall with preparing us for the future.
Great
You are a wonderful professor and person. I am grateful to be your student.
Excellent class doing field work sort of gave all of us a taste of what is to come in the real world.
I enjoyed the class because it pushed me to go out and find a supervisor. It was a great way for me to learn more about myself in relation to my future profession.
This course, I believe, is only as beneficial as the site that the student gets placed to. I gave this course a favorable grade because I had a great experience at my internship; however, it is possible that it could have gone the other way. I did not find the plagiarism/paragraph editing assignment useful.
class should be designed to benefit students. Don't feel it was helpful to hear class discussions on what other people are doing (that is what the end of the semester powerpoint is for). that time could be better spent actual doing field experience. Maybe class should be online. Don't think in class meetings are necessary. Most of the work should be coming from supervisor evaluation.
