13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Jeff is very clear and uses precise language, and his willingness to demonstrate techniques (even when they seem easy) in detail helps to set students at ease.
Explaining how the experiments will be carried out.
Very informative, goes over the material before every lab, helps out if there are any questions.
great teacher, funny, smart, makes learning fun, he's great about working with students individually to facilitate success, and knowledgable about subject matter
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Going over the quizzes isn't very helpful, not because they couldn't be, but because he has a tendency to read the question and then say "B, carbohydrates" or whatever the answer is, but not actually explain why it's the answer. I think his personality is very cerebral and likable, but he could try to infuse a bit more energy into presenting. I do wish he was more accommodating. I had to leave for a week and couldn't make up the quiz for that week at the appointed time, and his attitude was basically "too bad, you get no credit" instead of suggesting an alternative assignment or an off-time to make it up. I work full-time, and I believe that's quite common at community colleges, and teachers should be cognizant that just being there can be a large sacrifice for students and, accordingly, show a greater willingness to accommodate as best they can.
Quizzes are a bit over rated points-wise. The lab reports sometimes take hours to complete but they are worth less then quizzes.
none, great job!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By being clear about administrative procedures and demonstrating techniques in detail. He's also just generally nice and approachable, and is very accessible.
Answering any questions a student would have.
Emails and informs students of any changes or any necessary information. Very understanding if student forgot to print his lab out :)
made sure we knew he was available to answer questions, etc. in class and during office hours, great about working with students individually which considering some of my hurdles, was very helpful and meant a lot to me for succeeding. very kind, i appreciated that. he also made sure we felt comfortable about things were were doing in class so we all felt (or at least I did) we were on the same page and also, he is a good and detailed lecturer
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. See above comments.
Yes, I would. He is a great professor and his labs are fun.
Yes, definitely!
absolutely, he's smart and funny but he's very knowledgable too and i felt i learned a lot from him and his class and the labs were really great! he's a really good teacher, i'd recommend and take another class from him w/o hesitation
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Nothing. Thanks for offering that opportunity.
Could you please bump up the points for the lab reports and prelabs at least to the point where they worth more or equal to quizzes. Otherwise great job.
just thank you - it was a fantastic class and i'm glad he was the teacher of it...it makes learning biology lab, and probably other subjects too if he teaches other things, not an intimidating and his encouragement to learn and apply while remaining available was highly appreciated.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mr. Squire knows his material very well and can clearly explain any part of the course.
His powerpoints. But they aren't even accurate.
He's organized in powerpoints
Jeffrey knows the subject matter very well. His exams are very fair and exactly taken from his lecture materials, which are posted on Laulima readily and easily reviewed. He uses the Laulima grade tool to post exam grades as soon as a few hours after the end of the period which is extremely convenient.
I enjoyed Professor Squires class layout and the way he lectured. It was a class that was propelled by self learning as opposed to alot of class participation, but it worked for me.
He definitely knows the material.
He basically puts everything on slides and on laulime for everyone to see.
I think his major strength is the fact that he can apply the knowledge he knows in order to answer students' questions. Students would ask real-world question and I like that he can think about what he knows and connect his knowledge to the question.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I really do not have any suggestions.
To have class/homework so that the final grade doesn't just rely on Exams and minor extra credits.
That he engage students more into learning. And that he knows his subject more. And find other ways to lecture.
Have a study guide for exams or let us know what to study on
Jeffrey could encourage class participation better. The material is very dense and difficult to grasp without one's full attention, but many students are bored or not interested in the lectures as they are not very engaging.
Engage the class more! Squires is a dry lecturer (which isn't always a bad thing) but it was hard to try to stay engaged and motivated by lectures.
Either more frequent tests (w/ less material on each) or study guides for each exam if really gonna test on 3-4 chapters at a time.
Change the atmosphere, be more passionate
I think having more questions on exams would benefit the students more--they have more chance of scoring higher with more possible points.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Mr. Squires show his concern for students by informing his students to see him if any of his students have any concerns about the class, grades or the course in general. He is open to his students and provides a welcoming environment.
He didn't. Just giving EC.
Jeffrey is helpful to those who have additional questions and will stay after lectures to answer questions. He is also very helpful during his office hours and explains the material in great detail for those who need extra help. He posts his powerpoint lectures online immediately before or immediately after each lecture which is VERY helpful for students, in that we can follow along with the lecture and listen intently instead of spending lecture time writing down pointless notes.
he tells the students that if they want to see what they missed to come to his office.
I've never really noticed if he showed concern for his students. The only thing I can really think of is curving exams if the average for that particular exam is below a 75%.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend Jeffrey Squires to other students. He is clear about his objectives and knows his course material very well.
No. Hardly anything will be learned.
No
I recommend Jeffrey Squires to students who can handle a large workload and are willing to put in much effort to learning a mountain of material. He is very fair in grading his exams and even takes the class average into account.
He's not passionate about the subject. He knows the subject but not energetic. He needs to give out more study guides because the human body has many componets and take note that some of the students are full time and makes the cousre uses up too much time from which could be used on other subjects.
Yes, I'd recommend him. He is to the point and won't give useless information to memorize just to do that. A/P is hard enough and he makes it bearable by focusing on the material to what he really wants us to know.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I like the way he teaches the class and how his power points are available for students to help us study for exams.
n/a
Jeffrey is very intelligent and knows which subjects need to be explained more thoroughly. He grades purely on academic progress and the progress of the entire class which I feel is very fair.
The reason why I disagree that he provides a good atmosphere for learning is because he presents the material that we need to know, but it is on the student to actually learn the material. So in a way, the student has to create his/her own good atmosphere for learning.
18. Other comments:

Needs to be more passionate. Provide study guides, and think about the students that study other subjecys

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is very knowledgeable in his subject area.
Very easygoing and showed that he was interested in assisting students with any questions. He helps students in a way where he wouldn't give you an answer till you kind of figured it out on your own.
He's very calm and nice.
He can simplify an explanation about the lesson without an extensive and complex explanation
He is very kind and friendly which makes him very approachable. He jokes around with the students which also helps us feel comfortable with asking questions.
Mr. Squires knows his material very well. He also provides a welcoming atmosphere for his students.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
More enthusiasm for teaching.
n/a
I don't have any suggestions for Mr. Squires.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always making sure we understood material and assignments.
By responding to e-mails
He did. If you didn't understand the material, it was very easy to ask him for help. He also took his time with helping you to understand what was what and if you were wrong, he corrected you in a nice way. He never rushed you to learn the material.
Anytime a student has a problem or is having problems with the class material, he is always willing to help out any way he can.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, though his course is self taught, I believe he was a great instructor.
Yes. Because I can understand his lectures really well.
Yes I would. He is very understanding and helps when a student is frustrated and doesn't make a big deal out of it. He just tries to help you the best he can and doesn't make you feel bad for taking up his time asking "silly questions".
Yes I would recommend Mr. Squires to other students. Students will learn from his class and he makes the class fun without sacrificing any part of the course.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He knows how to relate to the students, maybe its because hes young. Either way, it made our learning experience feel more than just school, it made you feel comfortable in the class and with your classmates.
n/a
Mr. Squires is a very concerned professor. He makes it a point that all his students learn from his class. He doesn't also intimidate his students. He welcomes questions about any part of the class and answers all of the students questions in a manner we can all understand the course better.
18. Other comments:
Definitely would take another course with him.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Knowledge
knew the subject
Hes smart and knows the subject well.
He knows the subject area
organized, clearness,helpful
He makes clear to get understood students in class in an effective way. He prepares the class very well.
Knows material
Professor Squires really knows what he's teaching and sometimes crack a joke here or there.
It is clear that he wants us all to succeed.
his knowledge of the subject material
Knows material. Very friendly
He knows his subject very well.
N/A, I hardly attended this class
Organized, always prepared and very fair
Knowledge of subject matter. Also available to answer questions students may have about subject and grades.
He goes through the chapters slowly so that we can take notes and always makes sure we understand the material presented before moving on.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Make more questions on the exam. Give out study guides for every exam. Don't make the exam so difficult to understand. The questions are too difficult.
His way of teaching is bery boring. I found it hard to pay attention in class. Also his exam questions were confusing and not main points.
To ask students more questions during a class so that students can check their understandings.
It would help if students had a better idea of what material should be reviewed for exams. The class were scores consistently low throughout the semester.
Need character, a little bit more stdt involvement
Make the class structure reflect how the tests will be. I was clueless as to what information I would be tested on and with so much information in each chapter I think the lecture should have been more in depth.
add more homework, such as worksheets. they help reinforce material learned.
More extra credit or study guide handouts.
Getting more involved with the students and giving homework will help students. But then again, it's up to him on grading them. However, it will involve the students more and get more participation with discussion on the sections for the class. Also, teach like you know your subject. We know you do because you can answer basically any question, however, you teach like you are studying the lectures as well. Kind of uncertain and questioning yourself.
N/A, I hardly attended this class
None
N/A
I liked the way the extra credit was worked, however it was often rather time consuming and didn't always apply to the exam material, a well structured extra credit might work better.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Gave us recommendations as well as tips
answered most emails
He curved our grades. He let us know we can see him about our grades and to see him if we would like to find out what we need on the final in order to get the grade we desired. He was also there to help us and asked us if we have any questions.
showed no concern
Office hours available and answered questions
Professor Squires give many extra credits and holds office hours whenever a student needs help. He also give hints for the next exam.
Allowed us to do book work to boost our exam grade, it was great study material but the questions on the test were always structured differently.
not sure. graded on a curve, maybe?
He always asked if anyone had questions and always emphasized office hours for those who needed help
He warned us about our grades after every exam and said he was available to talk to us. In addition, he allowed extra credit options.
N/A, I hardly attended this class
He always asks if we understand the material and is easy to access during office hours for any questions
Constantly reminds students when exams are coming up. Letting students know what to study for and makes himself available for questions.
By allowing extra credit and curving grades.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, learn a lot
yes, good teacher
No the class is way to challenging especially if your in a science major. The exams are horrendously difficult. And theres not a lot of ways to bring up your grade.
No, I felt he knew what he was talking about but did not "dumb" it down for students just learning the material. I taught myself out of the book.
Yes. He is a very well organized, good teacher. A little bit shy, though... He follows the textbook; so if you really want to learn the textbook, his lecture is very helpful.
He has a deep knowledge what he teaches. He also is accessible to student if having questions in class or outside.
Not really
Yes, very informative and you can learn a lot of healthcare trivia.
No, it is too difficult to follow his teaching style, after listening to lecture and studying on your own you will be very confused when it is time to take the exam.
not really. he's not as engaging as other instructors, and the material tested on was pretty much the entire book.
Yes and no. I would because he is a teacher that teaches the course required for the medical field. In contrast, I wouldn't because when taking the course, you basically will teach yourself because the teacher teaches like he is studying himself.
N/A, I hardly attended this class
Yes, effective teacher
Yes, easy to learn from. Clear and concise.
Yes. He was a good teacher although he could be more interactive and entertaining.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Fun teacher, very intelligent
Needs to let lose
his course could use more interaction instead of straight lecture.
He is great gentlemen.
He answers questions asked, if he doesn't know he finds us the answer and he adds in personal stories to make the material relatable
N/A
18. Other comments:
he knows the material well, he just needs to involve the students more in the learning process.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
His personal style was agreeable to learning.
He was able to move us through each lab at a good pace, explained the procedures in clear terms, and graded the exams really quickly.
He definitely knows all the structures and everything for the course.
He knows the subject well and it shows.
kindness, helpfulness, clearness
He was helpful and encouraged everyone to participate in the experiments.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
The lab books were archaic... particularly the Daniels book. That thing is JUNK.
Can't think of anything.
Not much that I can think of. It was a lab and he did well.
The exam seating configuration was a bit odd.
More small projects and extra credit, as well as more questions on the exams.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He was always happy to explain details when asked.
He held study sessions for the exams.
He made sure we knew the structures for whatever section we went over in class that day.
He was always available for answering questions.
no
By providing extra credit when students asked.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. Because he did a good job of presenting the material despite the out-dated books we used.
Yes, if you show up to Squires' lab you should have no problem passing this course.
Yes, he gives clear instructions on the days of class and makes sure you know the structures of each experiment before leaving.
Yes, overall pleasant course.
Yes. His Lab is great because lots of other instructors do not explain much about those experiments but he does. He always gives us about 1 hour lecture, pointing out the important parts.
Yes. He is a good teacher although he could be more interactive and entertaining.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Very likable and knowledgeable.
cool dude
I could tell he knew the subject but at the same time he seemed to sometimes have trouble articulating what he meant.
18. Other comments:
I liked the idea of having note cards out for people to write on while they wait for their turn during the exams.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
This is the first for him to teach biology at college. However he taught us with confidence. Additionally, he is very friendly to any students.
Very good at describing the steps needed to accomplish the labs. He made any questions about the lab manual's procedures very easy to understand.
He made sure we understand the materials well before the exam.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Exams are so hard :( Should give some extra credits
Have course materials organized in a timely manner.
Maybe do a few quizzes to see if we understand each section or chapters well. There were some chapters that had a lot of material to remember.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
okay
He makes sure everyone knows their grades and sees what they need to work on.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
definitely I can recomment him because he is really friendly and his class is very interesting.
Maybe
Yes.
He's a good professor but still needs to make sure the exams are not too hard, especially in the summer. Too much writing and not a lot of time to study.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
should make exams a little bit easier, give students some assignments for extra credits
Some other students may complain about the difficulty of the course but they may not take into consideration that this was an accelerated summer course. Dr. Squirres made chapter coverage for exams clear and I think that's what slipped a lot of students up as they were not prepared to study five chapters worth of material for weekly tests. I on the other hand was able to bounce back after a C and D and finish strong with Bs for my exams. I don't know if my peers were able to bounce back and they will probably make up the majority of negative feedback.
He knows a lot about general biology. His tests are doable if you study the material and understand the power points.
18. Other comments:
Thank you
The lab reports take up a LOT of time outside of the lab. During summer I would have one lab on Monday and the other on Thursday or Friday instead of Wednesday. One day in between is just not enough time, especially if one is also taking the bio lecture and another class as well.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He goes over the quiz after taking it and goes around to make sure students are doing the right experiment or need any help.
Down to earth and we could all relate to him.
he teachs very clearly. He is very strong in Biology and.
Knowledge of subject.
Jeff knows the subject area well and presents it in a clear and logical way. He is able to explain the lab procedures and answer questions clearly. He simplifies the topics so they are easier to understand and less intimidating.
very easy in grading lab reports
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
He should be more clear about which parts of the experiment the students will conduct in the assignment.
none
Tests were a bit crazy. There is so much material in such a short time that it is really hard to try and absorb it all. Questions on exams sometimes seemed a bit unreasonably in depth.
N/A
Make quizzes a little bit easier, give some comments in students' lab reports (to show that you read it)
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He asks the students to come see him if they need help with lab report or experiment.
By helping us with lab and being patient with our not so wise questions
He will answer any questions you have during class, and makes it clear that he is always available to help outside of class. He responds to emails quickly, and when he says he'll post something online he does it promptly.
Good
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
He is okay, but i believe he needs to train more to be a well experienced teacher.
yes
Yes.
Yes, I would recommend Dr. Squires. He's very fair, and genuinely places the student's learning and success as a priority. He knows the subject area well, and he often adds in interesting side-notes that make the information more relatable/memorable.
Sure
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He should be more straight forward about quizzes. He asks random questions so sometimes it's hard to understand what he's trying to ask. The quizzes need to be more clear and specific, too general can confuse students.
I think that he said it was his first time teaching the course. Good job for a first go, if that's the case. He seems a bit unsure or hesitant at times, but I'm sure he'll develop a more cohesive teaching style as he progresses as a course instructor. Good job all in all.
an easy teacher to take for the lab :)
18. Other comments:
Overall, he is not too bad as being a first year teacher in kcc. Like him how he grades lab report easily.
Your lecture was very good. I've never taken such an interesting class before. I think you are a good teacher. Please keep teaching and progress with your teaching skill.
Thank you

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I took Professor Squires for lab, and with the experiments and dissections, he gave us background information and presented/demonstrated how to do them.
He can teach the course efficiently.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
To offer more assignments.
Mr. Squires needs to be more organized there was a few times he would email the students the night before the exam saying that the time of the exams switched to a later time about an hour and half later then our class scheduled time. There were times when he did not really know what we could do to improve our test scores.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He offered extra credit and offered help of how to study for the exams.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Hes nice
yes because hes out going
No, he needs more teaching experience. It was difficult to rely on him to teach us the material because majority if the time he didn't know how to explain thoroughly.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
hes nice
Great guy, funny guy but not the best professor.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
none
Understanding
He knows his stuff
I think he is really good in his subject area and keeps things interesting. I like that he laughs in class and likes to listen to what students have to say and make conversation with the class if interesting subjects come up.
Dr. Squires was knowledgeable in the subject area. He simplifies the information, which is not easy to do since physiology is so detailed and technical. He always solicits questions during class, is available after class, and responds to emails promptly, which shows his committment to the class.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
know the subject matter. present the materials clearly. engage students
show more enthusiasm for material
Focus more on grasping key concepts rather than intricate details on exams. Exam questions seemed unreasonable as compared to other 142 courses. The purpose of taking 142 for me is to focus on concepts that I will be able to apply clinically in my career, rather than trivial details!!!
He needs to make the class a little more exciting. Put together exciting projects for extra credit.
I think if he was a little more specific on what he wanted us to study out of the chapter it would make studying more effective for the students and improve test scores more.
It would have been nice if the Powerpoint slides were posted ahead of time (maybe at least a couple of days?), and if no changes were made to them once posted. I'm not able to get to a printer right before class, and I know the slides were usually posted within a couple hours before. If I had been able to print them out sooner, I would've liked to bring them to class with me so I could take notes on them.
Squires should elaborate more on the subject, I felt that his students and I were being lectured AT rather than to. I feel as if he should brush up on his teaching skills, because human anatomy & physiology II is very detailed and extensive, I feel I missed out a lot on this subject matter, because it was not taught to me in an effective way. I felt that I've learned just as much by reading the textbook rather than going to class.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
he graded on a curve
provided extra credit
Dr. Squires was always available to answer questions or give help after class, and he would take his time covering the material during class, which shows that he wants the students really understand the material. He would also answer any questions that arose during class. Dr. Squires also gave a lot of hints as to what would be on the exams, and he offered many extra credit opportunities which also shows that he wanted us to do well.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
no hes a terrible teacher. He should be learning how to teach a class, not giving one yet. Nobody takes him seriously...
yes, fair in tests and grading
I would recommend him if you were a good and studious student.
Yes, I would recommend Dr. Squires to other students, because he's very knowledgable, wants the students to do well, is personable, and takes the time to cover complicated topics and to answer questions. He also adds in some side-tidbits that are entertaining yet related to the material.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
very chill, but sometimes too chill
The beginning of the semester started off a little slow, but I think his lectures and powerpoint slides have gotten much better as the semester progressed. The powerpoint slides do a good job of summarizing what was in the textbook, and his lectures flow well now.
18. Other comments:
I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. I feel like I am more driven to learn the subject further after taking this class.
Thank you for the extra credit opportunities!!! Although, I don't know if it was a good or bad thing...? I don't want to sound like a nerd or anything but I've never had any other instructors offer extra credit and curve the class grades. I wonder if offering these opportunities made students think that they could slack off and not try as hard on the exams?
