23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked how the course was designed with the three speeches
The speech assignments were fun to record.
I liked that there were 3 different types of speeches that was needed to be done. I also liked that the teacher made drafts as part of a assignment. In the end, I did not procrastinate and fall behind.
The cable classes were interesting and easy to keep up with
I liked the online aspect as it is hard to get in to a class when you're working 2 jobs. I liked the 3 main components of the class and how each covered different topics.
The convenience. I really appreciated the lay out of assignments.
Because this was a cable class, I was able to watch the cable shows at my own time. Julie Kim would always answer emails as soon as possible.
I loved the tv sections of the class Julie kim was so entertaining that it kept you wanting to watch it.
I enjoyed doing the team speech, I loved the team that I had.
I liked the fact that I was able to take this speech course on-line and through cable lectures.
I enjoyed how we where able to evaluate one another speech and give feedback.
She made information about the subject easy to understand.
The Cable session were very professional. The instructor was always prepare for each topic. I liked the examples she used to explain the topics. She was always very clear.
to be able to watch the lectures, and listen to it while sitting at home. Julie Kim presetation present a good speaker and organizer, making me learnt a lot from her lectures.
Julie is great to work with. She is quick to respond to your questions.
The recorded lectures were great. Never felt like I was struggling to pay attention. She kept it interesting.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I did not like the group aspect of this course. It was very inconvenient to try and work with a group online. I try to stay away from courses that have group work online.
Working on creating outlines for the speeches as well as recording the speeches. I also enjoyed the team presentation powerpoint.
I did not like the team presentation, it is because there was lack of communication.
na
Nothing really, I enjoyed this class a lot!
The test they were too hard
The reading is the only thing i like the least.
I did not like how long it took to upload my videos on Connect. I also found the videos a little boring.
I didn't really like the team presentation because it was really hard to meet up with team members because of everyone's different schedules.
I experienced difficulty trying to download the video and shrinking it that program is not a friendly user.
If I wasn't able to watch a certain lecture, the online stream would sometimes give me problems.
when I wrote emails for things that i had unclear, sometimes the responses were very short, and I did not see interest in resolving my unclear problems.
I wish a could be able to watch the lectures on youtube at anytime so that I could watch it anywhere with my phone and dont have to watch it at 11pm at night
The least I liked about this course were the hours of scheduled programming.
I didn't like the group project. Relying on others who may not be as committed was way too stressful.
25. My overall evaluation of this course is...
very good
This class is very fun - you will learn a lot.
I would recommend this course. I learned a lot of giving speeches and being more confident in myself.
It was a really good course and I would highly recommend it
that I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like I gained a lot of knowledge in terms of communication skills. I will definitely be able to use the skill set I learned in both my personal and professional life.
I thought the course was interesting. It was set up well and it certainly was a new experience. Mrs Kim does an excellent job in communicating, helping and videos.
I enjoyed this class because I could do everything from home.
I really enjoyed this class gives me a little more confidence to speak in from of people.
I enjoyed it overall. There were little aspects that were confusing, but overall the course was good and I learned a lot.
Overall, this course was welll worth it. I really learned a lot of different things to help me become a better communicator.
I enjoyed the course although having the ability to view previous videos would have been much easier.
Good course but it's a little different from an in-class Speech course.
It is a very useful and interesting course. I learnt to improve communication on my daily encountering with people
I highly recommend this class to others who experience social anxiety.
It was a great class. I learned a lot that I know I can use in future careers.
26. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Maybe put one or two more exams throughout the course. The midterm had too much information in it that it was hard to keep up at times.
Kara Kam-Kalani was the person giving the lectures, but the instructor is Julie Kim which I thought was a little confusing. Maybe stating that very clearly in the beginning of the semester on the syllabus. Other than that it was a good class - not so much in need of improvement.
I wouldnt change it! It was easy to follow, work was well laid out
Nothing to improve to me.
The grading seems to be to strict. For our first time doing speech the should be a little leniency and not be so technical on the little details. Also, the test reminding me of taking the drivers test, the questions seemed too similar to each others. If these things could be fixed it would be much better.
I think the teachers could be a little bit more clear on the videos. When I was taking note it was hard to understand the important parts to remember.
I think this course could be improved if they found a way to eliminate the team presentation or revised it in a way that could accommodate the students who aren't able to meet up with their group members.
I enjoy the course but I think they should find a way so that you may go back and review the cable course on t.v. My dvr only allowed a certain amount of time before it was deleted.
There isn't much to be improved but a better way of obtaining the lectures online would help. There were some bugs with the way the stream behaved on the website.
The video format online is mov only Apple products or required you to download more software. Should stream them as mp4. I use a linux computer and of course I was out of the loop on this option. The scheduled programming was extremely early or at late at night.
The group project should be limited to three students per group. Videos should be accepted by e-mail or on laulima itself. McGraw-Hill has a lot of shortcomings and their tech support is weak.
27. Other comments:
none

I think you should ask students from prior classes to use their videos as samples of what one should and shouldn't do. Your welcome to use mine as a "what not to do" hehe! Lets be honest I did very poorly on my first video's. I think a sample video in your syllabus would be great. Also, a fun assignment interacting with one of your videos OR another student would be cool too. I think I would have done much better if I saw other students first only because I had no clue what a speech should look like. Overall I think your great instructor and I found your assistant VERY helpful and pleasant also. I enjoyed your videos, think you do a great job there and very well organized; I appreciated the fact that assignments were done in a manageable order. I have to say this course was very interesting. I'm glad I tried something new. Thank you for a great experience.
This class showed me it's possible to complete a group project via the internet even though the group members are scattered throughout the State of Hawaii.

I enjoyed this class. It was great but it can be better.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
julie keeps the class exciting and she makes you want to come to class. she makes learning fun and easy so the whole class would pay attention and participates. she really can relate to the class and she give everyone equal oppurtunities. her grading system is equal and fair and she gives you chances to bring your grade up. everyone in our class is easy to talk to at the ending of the semester because her enviorment and vibes in class lets your learn in a comfortable like atmosphere.
She's nice person, she teach different from other teacher maybe because she is young. She talks to all the students, always smiling and teaching with a fun and enjoyable way.
Friendly but still authoritative. Good class activities, they get you thinking and encourage teamwork and aren't always that easy
she is very creative with getting the whole class to participate in activities. She knows her subject well and was able to teach it in a fun and meaningful way.
knowledgeable with her subject and class activities.
She spoke very loudly and gave assignments in a timely manner.
This class is very informative.
Julie Kim's strengths as a teacher are her ability to connect with students. By connecting with she is able to encourage students to try and do their best.
She is "like" a student, so we can talk and interact with her as we do among our peers. aha! I like her teaching style, very straight forward and she tells us what exactly is going to be on the exam.
Her ability to deliver the information, and engage the students.
She knows what her students need to know and not giving too many assignments to stress out students. She covered whatever is important and taught us very well.
Her relationship with all of her students are good, explains well and allows us to participate in activities
She knows the subject very well, she really cares for her students, is prepared all the time, she is very thorough with her lectures, is always available to help. She is a great asset to KCC. Best teacher I had at this school!
She is pretty, she makes you want to talk a lot in class.
she is easy to talk to. makes you feel comfortable. explains material so everyone understands.
She is very enthusistic and always has a smile on her face making the class a warm and hospitable atomsphere.
She did a great job of teaching us communication with lots of hands on activities like speeches or daily events in class where we could re-learn the material we just took notes on in a way that would help us practice and remember it all!
Although she might look pretty young for being a teacher, she is very responsible on her course.
Julie is a wonderful lady, is very engaging and connects with all of her students and is definitely not your typical, deadpan professor. She is able to get all of her students to participate by activities and group discussions. Very effective.
Juile is very fun and energetic and she's great at building energy in a classroom. Her class is by far my favorite class because it is so fun and I really like her as a person, she's very personable and easy to talk to. Also she's great at explaining things to people without them feeling stupid. Not to mention her speeches are not extremely nerve-racking. She does a good job of easing the tension, and creating a fun yet calm environment for speeches.
Great personality and fantastic to work with. Very fun teacher who provides assignments that teach lessons in an entertaining way.
Considerate and makes class fun.
Julie is awesome. Clear and precise with everything. She is well organized and pushes us as students. The best class I have taken here at KCC. Learned the most in this class then any of my other classes.
She have a strength that can encourage students to participate in a class. And she can advice correctly in appropriate ways. Also she can create good atmosphere in her lecture to students to learn the major points. She treated her students very fairly also teaching the major with well- organized formats. Personally, she is one of the greatest professor in Hawaii. KCC must keep her.
She is young so I never feel the Sense of distance with her.
Very kind and willing to give chances and help students
Professor Kim is an outstanding instructor. She relates to the students extremely well. She always provides detailed examples that are relative to us. Her teaching methods were exceptionally effective as she integrates her instructions to our normal everyday lives. She is very friendly to the class and always offer help to us if we were in a struggle. I would highly recommend Professor Kim to any future aspiring students as she made class enjoyable and fun while doing it in a professional mannerism.
She gives good notes in class that prepares us for the test.
she really knew her material well
She makes everyone want to come to class, and has shown us all how easy it can be to comfortably speek in front of an audience of strangers.
She interacts with the students very well which makes the classroom environment very fun and easy to learn
making things easy for the class.
she makes the class fun and educational at the same time
She's a really good teacher. She always gets through her lectures which is via powerpoint. She makes sure everyone is involved in class and that everyone knows what day there speech is. She is really good at getting her points across and she has some good humor when the time comes.
Julie's strengths are definitely her understanding of the subject, helpfulness towards students to do as much as possible to get the students to pass, and is fair to all her students. She pushes us to think for ourselves to understand the material in class by doing activities involving the whole class. They are very interesting and innovative that do the job of teaching the class.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
nothing muhc, just to keep her great atttitude in teaching college students.
Nothing
none
Speak slower when giving presentation and post presentations online.
It was a straight forward class with no surprises.
Maybe be more strict on students chatter in the class. It is distracting to other students and shows lack of respect, especially during a students presentation.
Maybe give us homework? HEHEHEHEHE!
Nothing I suggest to Julie because she was my best prof this semester!
There were a couple of guys in the back of the class who were noisy everyday, she should have done more to get them to behave.
none
None. Don't change anything. Maybe teach other classes if anything.
To not stutter too much. And to dress more professionally.
teach more classes so i can take them!
I wouldnt change her she does a good job providing all the information we need for test and speeches.
Fairness on grading (sorta). I hate when people do their speech reading them off from the paper on their hands in the presentation.
My only suggestion would be to change your schedule from a tuesday-Thursday class to a M-F class, because that class was by far the most fun class I had. Keep it up Julie!
None. She is great! KCC is lucky to have her!
Nothing. Everything was great.
Speak slowly... ...
None.
No changes.
nothing
Nothing at all. I absolutely love her teaching style
nothing.
shes doing great right now
I dont suggest any change towards Julie Kim
NOne
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she dosent want any one to fail and alwaus encourges us to come to class and feel free to ask for her help.
She always message us, letting us know what are we didn't do in her class and always pushing her class to do works.
I was late to class a few times because i missed the bus, but she was very understanding.
she is willing to help students like brainstorming etc.
She always asked if we ever needed help with anything and promptly gave answers when needed.
Julie let us know when everything is due and gave us a heads up when things were due.
She always encourages students to do their best. She emails students in regards to up coming assignment due dates. She is very willing to answer any questions students have without judgement or a condescending tone. She is genuinely concerned with everyone's success in learning the information, and the doing good one assignments given.
She gives extra credit for participation and class attendance (attendance is always a good extra credit because its easy!)
Yes. She always noticed us what we need to work on, what are we missing( homeworks etc..), and what we should prepare for. Always giving us enough time to work on the assignmets.
be available outside of class even with her tight schedule. answers all her emails, allows us to email work to her.
Always pushed us to do good. Reminded us when things were do. She is a very passionate teacher and it really showed.
You can always her a question any time, she would give you the time to talk after class.
she emails reminders to students to give us reminders of major up coming assignments. when students are absent she makes sure that they know whats going on.
She emailed me and informed me a was losing points by missing classes and encouraged me to come to class so i would get those points and get an overall good grade.
She kept in contact with students outside of class when needed and always responded to emails promptly. Very clear about what she wanted in all of our assignments and kept most the students from slacking or falling behind by being very strict on attendance.
She worried about being in class, and making sure everyone gave out their speeches, etc.
By allowing us extra credit opportunities and by promptly emailing us when we had questions and concerns.
She was good at being a "friend", I feel its because she's so young, she's so much more approchable than older teachers.
Allowed students time to make up assignments, met with students before and after class.
She pushes us to do better all the time. Reminded us all the time when something was due and made sure we all did good.
If a students absents a lot, she did a email/call to a students right-away. And she is responsible for each individual students issues especially on email. In her lecture, obviously we had a many essays, in her comments for us (students) was very encourages me to increase the studying evaluate skills.
We always discuss in the class to answer her question. I like that.
She gave students extra time on some assignment if needed
In a way, she is very caring towards us. She made sure each student understood the lessons and assignments clearly and she would take additional time out of her own schedule to help us out.
Emailed us to remember to do our speech.
she always made sure that we were prepared for our tests and speeches
She is very understanding when it comes to presentations. If the day of the presentation comes and you're not prepared, Julie will more than likely allow you to go another day or at least till the end of the class period to prepare.
she encouraged students to come class.
she always is understanding on assignments that are difficult which is helpful and makes me want to work harder because i respect her so much more
I wouldn't say she showed concern for her students, which is not really her job. If a student asked for help from her, she was always there to give her word and share some advice!
She stayed after class however long to talk to students. she also had a adequate office hours. She does her best to make sure everybody understands the work and what she wants from the class. I feel that she did that very effectively which made the class more enjoyable and stress free when it came time for speeches.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, one of the best teachers i ever had because its a fun class that u acaully want to go to.
Yes, because her class is so good and it very fun.
yes. her class was fun and there was good energy and it made speaking in front of the class easier

Yeah its a fun course and a way to practice public speaking
Yes. Julie is a great teacher that is concerned with students success in her class. She is willing to to what she can to help all students, and making learning interesting.
No, if you want a class with homework; no study guide; requires you to write down notes Yes, if you want no homework...and a lot of group activities and projects!
Yes, it is because I felt that she care about the students and I can feel that she loves to teach.
The class period goes by quick and you hear intresting things being said by fellow classmates.
yes because she is a good teacher, knows the area well
Yes! She is truly a great teacher! She goes through everything and makes sure that everyone understands the material. She asks us a lot of questions to make sure we know it to. I learned the most from this class then any other class. She presents the material in an effective, fun and clear way.
Of course she is really nice, an easy A. And the presentations are a lot of fun.
yes i would recommend this instructor to everyone, students, friends, people considering college. its an enjoyable class overall.
Yes, because she makes it easy to pass the class by making you feel comfortable for speeches and gives you information for the test.
Yes! She is a younger teacher that knows how to teach material in a way that we will actually understand and remember it. She is Extremely well at explaining the concepts of communication.
Yes. She really helps you, even if you are an international student or have a hard time in English.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
encouraged alot of class participation
she explains things well.
STRONGLY AGREE
Encouraging and wanting students to do their best, grading fairly, and being organized.
she is very good at comunication with students and i think it's very important!!
Non Judgmental She made learning fun, to ease up anxieties. She provided clear and comprehensive instructions, I rarely needed to ask her a question twice. She's highly motivated which influenced me a lot. There's so many more strengths about Julie, I can't say enough about her but I will stop here for now.
She knew what she was teaching very well and she presented her materials in a clear and effective way. There were many activities that helped students learn the material better.
She is a nice teacher, class is organized, Very clear about the requirement for this class.
She is helpful during class as well as outside of class.
She understood students very well and made good atomosphere in class. Her explanation was very clear. She encouraged students to study very well. When I asked her something through e-mail, she reaponsed very fast. She did not give negative pressure students, so we could enjoy her class. Some teachers give students too much pressure, which makes students lose motivation or engagement of studing. Instead, she encouraged us to study.
She always got the students to participate in activities, asking questions, having the students ask questions.
she is great at giving her materials to the class
She is an engaging teacher.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
nothing
STRONGLY AGREE
Outside extra credit opportunities instead of in-class games.
There's nothing I would want her to change.
Not much, just keep up the good work.
Motivate more classmates to join group works or class activities.
Nothing!
-- snipped --
nothing much she is doing a good job
Perhaps encourage students to focus on their projects. The group projects fall a bit haphazardly due to poor planning skills.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she tried to relate to her students to help us learn
she made sure people know what they are doing and made sure all the students did the homework and class work.
STRONGLY AGREE
Encouraging and wanting students to do their best, and grading fairly.
very nice! i like it.
privately and direct it depends if she is addressing concern to the entire class or to one individual.
She would notify students of the dates the tests were on and remind us the due dates for assignments. She also went over the chapters very thoroughly.
By encouraging students to participate in class and care for students if they have any troubles.
There were some international students in our class. Sometimes teachers don't care of international students, but she did. She encourage us to participate in class. when I did not understand anything, she explained again with easier words.
She always asked for our input
she showed concerns by asking everyone what they dont understand and giving group studies
Email is the best source for turning in otherwise late papers.
