13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

His overall approach to teaching has really had an impact on my experience in ICS 101. He helped everybody when we have a problem he would help us fix it. He teaches us many things which are related in the real life. He definitely knows his material and he makes it fun because it is computers, he makes us learn but not tell us exactly what to do because that is not learning and he would rather teach us. he do very well Mr Lavoie is very straight foward with his instructions you can't really go wrong if you listen and do what he says. He knows everything about all the programs. Knows the material well He knows about ICS 101 Inform our grade every weekend. easy to understand fun teacher! really knows the subject and what is important for us to know He knows which skills students need for school and work. He focuses on main programs that are very useful for students. His knowledge of the material

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

The course is okay as it is. I think that less things to do on myITLab yes, Sure. If I were to make changes, it would be that his syllabus on the first day of instruction could be more explained and clearer because it just says the assignment and not exactly what it is. He also isn't that clear when he says the instructions in class. nothing. is already very good. one of my good class in my life. Dont be so stuck on using the syllabus. A bit more patience with ESL students. Learn to work with your students on issues they may have rather then embarrass them in class Nothing none n/a None He should be more selective with the words he chooses to speak.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

He would tell people to stay behind and get work done to better their grades. Make sure we turned in our work on time and if we didn't turn it in on time, he would let us turn it in late and still get points. He e-mail us every week to remind us what to study and prepare for the next lectures He makes us learn how to do it so that we know next time and he is always open for questions from his students because if the student doesn't know, he sometimes learns from them as well and both learn. He answers questions at any time and tells us what to do. he will let his students do little homework He helped students after class in the computer lab. He helped me get projects done. He didnt, he is very impatient with students he took movie and send us via e-mail. It helped me. explains things n/a kept us aware of our grades so we knew how we were doing throughout the semester. helped us whenever there was something we didn't understand He reminds students to do homework and submit on time. If students have any questions, he is very willing to answer in class or outside.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes because he is a very good teacher in a very difficult field. Yes I think I would recommend him to other students because it's a really great class and he would tell you why PowerPoint and the other stuff is important in the real world. Yes because I learned a lot of computer skills from his course. Yes I would recommend Mr. L to my peers because he is definitely a cool teacher and he makes it fun to come. The assignments are easy to complete and he is available a lot. He knows his stuff and he makes us learn so that we remember next time we come across that problem. yes. Yes because as long as you do things on time and follow what he does on projects you should pass easily. Yes his class will help you gain knowledge about useful computer programs. Yes. He's a bit harsh in the expectations he has on his students. But he knows that material, grades fairly, and even gives extra credit to those who do things ahead of schedule. People should take this class if they are good at keeping up with assignments without having to constantly being reminded. He grades fairly. Only because it is an easy course yes sure n/a yes, he knows the subject and encourages students to actually learn it, rather than doing things for them Yes, I would recommend him to students because he is a good teacher. You will learn many things from him. You feel comfortable to join the class. Yes, because it can be useful in everyday life.

He is such a good teacher. He's a nice teacher he would let us turn in work late and still get partial credit He is computer master. He is a very fair grader and he makes coming to class fun. He has to be clearer for instructions and when assignments are due though. thank you Hes a straightfoward teacher just do the work and you should do fine. nothing. He seems like a nice guy but he isnt the best teacher nothing none n/a He is very enthusiastic and flexible. He students actually learn something.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

he is friendly He knows the subject matter and makes it easy to learn. He gave good examples of projects and assignments so we knew exactly what to do and what to expect. He was very helpful and made things interesting. He knows the knowledge! to the point Explained tests and assignments in class, and online. He's got a quirky sense of humor that makes his lectures interesting. Wants the best for everyone! easy to understand He knows what hes doing. He knows many things about PC. He has sense of humor and is experienced. He knows everything. We can ask anything about computer stuff. Teaching is not his calling. He does not belong in a classroom Motivating, Encouraging and Fair He knows the subject of computers. Very organized and knowledgable He's good at making the students feel at charge. You must take the reigns on all of the assignments as you should be. He's just there to help teach, if you don't know the material at hand. Professor Lavoie was very knowledgeable in the field he was teaching. he is really knowledgeable about his subject! Professor Lavoie is a talented educator who made dry material like learning computer programs interesting. He established real world applications of the material and I personally never left his class without a smile on my face. He is very knowledgeable and ensures he challenges all students. ICS Very knowledgeable of subject. Made class fun and interesting. Easy grader and offered alot of extra bonus points. hes quick He knows material very well. If the student already understands the material, he lets the students turn in assignments early so that they are able to make complete them and if there are any mistakes since it is turned in early, he will help you with the mistakes that you have made. He promotes me to fix my mistakes on my own, with little help, forcing me to understand the softwares better. He explained the work clear and even showed us hand ons How he teaches the material is very effective that the information is easy to absorb. Very organized Good at helping students explain material Knows subject well. He can use the internet to do the class training. Good communication, cleanly stated course outline and schedule. He is really good at computer technology, and he knows how to effectively use computer tech to teach students.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

no No changes. DO NOT CHANGE. He's great! take out access Step by step instructions could be clearer. Nothing! try to understand students better Maybe try be a bit less harsh sometimes. He needs to listen what students want to say or ask. no He should recommend students who can't follow the subject to take ICS 100. Some of the students just depended on his helps or didn't know what they're doing untill the due date of submissions. And it's demotivating for me to just sit around and wait till people who didn't do homework and came to class to finish their works.. From being in his class this semester I opined that he think the world of himself and know everything, however, he is not a humble person to share his knowledge in a nurturing environment. He should find another job NONE He favorites students, and he scrutinizes students, making it hard to learn. None. It was a fun class None, class was always interesting and adventurous everyday. No changes, I feel he and his class were useful and effective. Perhaps design his instructions in a little different format easier to decipher. Also, perhaps he should pick other things than sports for examples when a class is filled with people who are obviously not into sports...I am so it made me laugh when I saw others with a blank look on their face. I dont have anything Not to be so sarcastic sometimes especially when people are asking serious questions. Don't ramble on about things that don't pertain to the class. go over history of computers because some might find it interesting and relatable to what is being learned Be a little nicer to students, low patience for students who don't comppletely understand course material None None Needs to get students involved with the class If any things Mr. L needs to change, I think he should give some explanation to students why their homework is wrong and more organize the homework schedule.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

spent more time for students Informed us of our grades every week so we know if we're falling behind. Every Sunday he would update our grades so we knew our grades. He was also available after class to answer any questions or help us out with anything we needed. Very helpful! He cares about the students a lot! yes Constantly reminded us of assignments due, if you missed one, can be lenient. Was available and helpful at anytime as long as you(as the student) made the effort. e-mailed a lot He send remind e-mail about HW or due date. offer some suggestion He recorded tutorial videos for us so that we can do projects better. And every Saturday he sent us the notification of grade status. It's very helpful. I think he helps everyone to at least pass this class. But some of people just didn't read the email and didn't do homework.. I don't know why they registered this class in the first place. They wasted the best chance of getting an A grade from ICS 101 course.. He is not concern about his students what so ever. He consistently embarrassed us in front of the entire class. Constantly remained us of how much we don't know and how much he doe does know. Constant communication and motivation Weekly grade updates, and office hours. Constant emails, usually weekly. Helped keep everyone on task. He would go over assignments and teach us quicker and more effective ways on how to complete the projects. neautral. Professor Lavoie would regularly engage in dialogue with students. He made the instruction available in a wide variety of formats and he would personally help students with questions in and outside of class. Professor Lavoie is an example of why the education system should not permit the machines to win by removing the human element and making all classes web based. He would stop and make sure he addressed any questions or concerns any student had. He also learned a little about each student in order to apply course subjects to their needs. from his project good videos meeting with them after class, allowing them to sit in to other classes if the time slots are more convenient. He made sure everyone got their software installed on their computer. He is easy to approach when I have a question. Extra hours and bonuses Reminded them to drop the course and responded fast. Make suggestions as needed When studnets have a problem to do a homework, and they email him, he will reply back and ask students to see him in his office time.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

yes, because he is friendly Yes, he's a fun teacher. Good class to take. Yes, his class is very interesting and I really enjoyed it. He is very helpful and makes things easier for us to understand. Yes, his class is fun and easy! yes, his class is at your own pace Yes I would he knows what he is doing and talking about! yes because you learn a lot from him. You cant be a wuss if you take his class, he has no problem with pointing out your mistakes in front of the whole class. On the other hand he knows what he is doing, as he has been doing it for a while. Hes a good teacher if you like to do your work early. I don't recommend. He neglects students a lot. maybe Sure. He's available. He checks his email frequently. Or you can ask questions in person. For example, while his office hours, he's in the business lab to help us. If you are serious about this course, you can get an A. No! because he is a poor instructor Definitely because he wants students to succeed more then some students want to. Yes, he allows google in the midterm and final exam. Yes the course is so organized. You know what's due, when it's due, and how it needs to be done. Yes, he's humorous and a really good teacher. I would definitely recommend Mr. Lavoie. Entertaining, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. Always keeps the class lively and interested. yes, because his class is fun :) I would recommend professor Lavoie to any and all students interested in learning computer science. He is able to connect to a wide variety of people and makes the lessons interesting. Yes. I like the way he challenges students as well as this type of instruction has already made a huge difference for me in all my classes and projects, as well as my business. yes Can learn so many about ICS Yes beacause he is fun and interesting but only if you can handle his sarcastic humor. yes if you want to learn fast yes bc the material is presented clearly and so long as a student applies them self they can pass the class with a A and have a better understanding of the course material. Yes because you will learn a lot from him. Yes because he is very easy going and agreeable Yes Yes Yes. Because he is a good teacher. Yes. Easy to understand course contents, and good communication, fast responds. I will recommend Mr. L to students who are really good at computer technology because sometimes students do assesments, but after they sumbit, the system shows out that is wrong, but actually their assesments are right. I think technological students can do the assesments more accurate and correct.

no Good teacher with a good personality. Makes class fun. He's great! no funny none no Thank you! Stop think so much of yourself Remember the students are your customers and not the other way around as you always reminded us in class Change your attitude about students and yourself Humble yourself because you are not God Stop insulting and embarrassing students Remember as instructor you are here to teach and we the students are her to learn from you Maybe then, just maybe, you might be a better instructor and a better person Thank you Mr. Lavoie He is a capable professor, but needs to be more considerate when explaining the computer subject to students, because not everyone knows the subject well. Funny guy Awesome! fun teacher! Professor Lavoie is another instructor that you should make an effort to hang on to. I think he keeps his class very lively for an IT course as well as his humor/personality. I would like to take another class from him! nothing Great teacher! Good job Best ICS instuctor! 13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

Philip Lavoie's is a very interesting and knowledgeable in computer. He like to push student finish his projects early and earn extra credit. I also notice that he spends a lot time in his office hour at the lab the help student. He is a good teacher, responsible teacher. He makes difficult things become easy, and he is willing to help! being flexible with work and due dates. He was very understanding with homework and other assignments. He taught us in a way that could relate to us students, rather than straight from the book. Best Experience, He knows that some students are faster than others and created the options for us to be ahead so that he could focus on students who actually needed help knowledge in the subject area Yes. He always helps students. i really enjoyed his class. he had very good analogies, especially the bus one. He knew his subject. He would put in the extra time to help a student(s) if they needed the help. Encouraged students to think for themselves. Patience, dedication, fair and knowledgeable. Demo's for projects he assigned were clear on what he exactly he wants on the project, very helpful. He is humous He rewards students with days off when assignments are turned in early. He gets straigt to the point. He wants his students to succeed: he shows his students how he wants his projects to be completed to ensure there are no gray areas. Mr. L is a certified Microsoft teacher so he is well versed in his field. His personalized projects make learning IT easier. Nothing He is very educated in the course he teaches. His concern for his students is genuine. And he is very upfront with his expectations for his course. when you were able to demonstrate you were not there to waste his time and you had a willingness to learn and apply the subject matter, he was more patient with you. very knowlegable Knownledge of computer science he had some experience, tries to solve myitlab problem for us. Good. know subject area. Straight forward He knows a lot the subjects. He also is open outside class if you need to do any homework or need help. Being straight forward.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

Philip Lavoie, should slow his lecture in his class. He really really talk talk fast. Sometime I don't even understand what he shows in the screen because it just too fast. The way he typed his project out in each assignments. I feel it is very confused sometime, take a while to read because, that's no space in between the sentences. organized work instructions better. None. Nothing, he was funny and good :) n/a No. Stop playing favorites in class. You can sometimes be very moody, knock it off. I say that with a smile :D None. He did a good job already NONE Nothing He sometimes talks impolitely. He got mad when students didn't understand what he said. I don't like the way of his talking. None guidelines should be set with creativity in mind, not just because structures. patience n/a nothing None Be more patient.

He concern students able to finish up his homeworks. He constantly remind student to remind his homework. He also give student second chance to finish up late work to get some credits. He is also one teacher at KCC i notice, he willing spend all his office hour times at lab to help student. I can always look for him in the lab to ask for him help. He is really good teacher.He has a passion in his subjects. He encounrage student to think fast, do things in fastest way. He taught us some useful things that not in the syllabus! by giving advice on things they asked for. He had open office hours and he emailed us back promptly when we needed help. Being there whenever we wanted and we could attend his other lectures opened up other classes to accomodate us in scheduling When we need help, he always help us to solve the problem. Philip's whole day is for his students. If he has extra time he will sit down with a student that is struggling and help them out with their project. He also encourages students to seek him out and where to find him. Offering assitance at all times. Yes made himself available for help after class & through email. Ask question Mr. L offered many different options for students who were behind in class work and homework; he offered office hours and even met with students in the computer lab on his own time. Yes I would recommend Philip Lavoie to other students, as I said before He is really good teacher, he cares for student and students almost can look his help anytime, when he has office hours. But me and other classmate, we finished early and raised our hands so he would come check, but then he saw us rasied our hand, he just nodded and went to do something else. And when he come back, he went to check other students that finished after us, and he did that many times already. So we were always almost the last one to be check on. i don't care about if we can leave early or not, but me and another classmate were really mad about that, we think this is not fair!! why we finished early and we were the last one to be check on?? Instead of easily giving the answers out, he tried to have us think on our own. He presented the material in a clear, effective way, and tried his best to engage his students. He is very approachable. Encourage students to do homework on time, super bonus for early work. Have clear outline. Philip Lavoie provided a structured approach that gave many students an opportunity to improve their skills and recognize their potential. One example of this was a concise syllabus that included many different concepts that every student can learn quickly. He wanted to make sure that they are prepared for working with a computer and its programs efficiently because many of today's jobs mostly involve working with some kind of computer. Another benefit that he brought to the course was giving helpful advice on certain aspects of a computerâ??s function and what purposes that it brings to everyday life. Each project that he assigned focused on a specific Microsoft Windows program such as Excel or Access, which have significant importance on running a company or office. I believed that I picked up a lot of useful information learning about the operation of these programs. He knows ICS Mr. Lavoie really knows his material and doesn't like to waste anyones time which is appreciated.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

We are there to learn what we don't know. although the class was easy for me, i could see how students with less computer background would be uncomfortable. He goes through many of the lessons very quickly and assumes that we already know most of the work. When students were unsure, he would come off as irritated or short when they would ask. Granted, some of the questions were stupid but I didnt like how he handled some of the situations. During instruction time, I think he should "attempt" to explain how to do a task in simple terminology. He speaks to to students as if we know the subject matter, and may at times use terminology we are unfamiliar with. In simple terms, speak to students as if we no NOTHING! I DONT LIKE HIM!! be more relaxed at times None speak slower will be good He should do Dream weaver or use some kind of program for html. I think that would be much more useful. As for the other programs: word, excel, etc. it was fine. none. great guy! Finals questions are long. I believe that Philip Lavoie should expand on covering some important features of many hardware items found on a computer. Lately, there has been a surge in computer components that evolve to new variations such as touchpads, pointers, and electronic keyboards. Covering the older, and sometimes, obsolescent devices is actually a great lesson, but I think that talking about the newer technologies will enhance the interests of the students and provide them with knowledge that they will need in order to succeed in the workplace. Also, he gave the students a lot of help during class and outside class, making sure every student gets a good grade. While strict about deadlines, he was very approachable and understanding of any issues you had with the material and was always willing to help. He comes to ask students if students need help in Computer Lab. He praise students for good work. Philip Lavoie demostrates concern for students by encouraging them to help themselves when they make any mistakes that they can correct. Most of the approaches that he utilizes during class help provide the students with a basic understanding that he wants them to have, especially with skills regarding hardware components such as keyboards, system units, monitors, printers and pointing devices. Furthermore, Mr. Lavoie has shown a tremendous amount of passion that I might not have known before the class started. He made it easy to make up work and attend another class time if you couldn't make yours.

yes! an easy A with a chance to not attend many classes if you get the assignments done early yes I would recommend Philip Lavoie because he really is a nice guy. He gives off a strong impression at first but he welcomes you later. yes, easy to follow lessons Yeah, he's a great guy for teaching this subject, because "he's the best." I first had a hard time in the beginning, not knowing how to do simple stuff, but with his direct approach method, was kinda tough at first but now I enjoy coming to class, one of my most favorite classes now. Some people don't seem to like his 'direct approach' method, but overall it was very helpful, just gotta learn. Yes, because you can learn a lot. Yes, Hes a very upbeat teacher and always making us laugh. Great teacher. I would recommend him to my friends because he is very fair to every students in the class. Also, he helps me anytime even outside of the class. Only if they have thick skin I would recommend it for students with an average to good background in computers. Mr. L is a very involved teacher who gives a lot of second chances, which is a good thing!!!!! He is well organized and always thinks about real world applications to what we are learning. He helps students understand by doing it themselves. he doesnt like to fool around and waste time.he gets right to it and lets his students know exactly if they are doing it wrong or right. As a proverb says "if to give a student a cup of water, a teacher must have a basket of water". Mr Lavoie has a basket of water. Very knowledgeable and experienced. He creates the more effective simnet questions for the students. he knows his subject matter, and has a no-nonsense attitude, which i like. he's also a cool teacher. Very personable and caring. He will spend the time in class to address any concerns on the assignments and projects. He doesn't want to see any student left behind or doing poorly. Great attitude, including humor to boot. taught step by step How prompt and organized the material covered was. It was a no-nonsense, do as you're told and learn method. He knows the subject well. He encourages the students to participate in the class and try to make them good learners and thinkers. Most of the activities that he does in the course involve major concepts on information technology that have some kind of excitement. For instance, the class did projects on each Microsoft Office program that had a real-life situation, but they contained content that was colorful and innovative. Mr. L. wanted each student to think for one's self by allowing them to try to do something that they might have difficulty on first and ask him if they still could solve the problem. Another component of his success is the amount of time that he dedicates to his students when they need assistance or to check on an assignment that they might not be clear upon. He permits students to come and sit in one of his other classes that he holds to listen to any work they missed or could not understand. Furthermore, he tells the sutdents that he has office hours to help with any assignment. I think that having these openings gives people, including myself, opportunties to improve on the confidence and enthusiasm levels when working an assignment. Philip Lavoie's major strengths as a teacher was being well-organized by having a calender for students to know when the assignments and tests are due. He makes sure that the students understand the assignments before beginning something new. he knows what hes talking about and he does a good job of engaging the students that were having trouble understanding the material and objectives. He's a good teacher.

I think he can be a bit harsh and overbearing on some students. The one's who don't keep up or are behind. No changes i think, i learned a lot in the class. Maybe more projects are assigned to students who never have or have enough hands-on experience. n/a Be a little more patient. I noticed sometimes he seems to be a little hard on students. I know that he doesn't mean to get down on them, but sometimes he seems to be frustrated by not getting quick responses from the students. changes due day to maybe sunday instead of saturday noon None. While i enjoyed his teaching style it's not for everyone. Mr L is more suited for advance students who already know computer jargon and can keep up. students who are real beginers will not be able to keep up. I suggest more in depth and slower explanation's for those students this class is ment for. The only change I believe that Mr. L. should make is giving students some strategies to improve on their work habits if they do not spend their time wisely. Occasionally, a student might have trouble understanding the words within an assignment and not realize that they can find ways to solve problems on their own. Mr. L always offered his other class times and office hours to students. He sent emails on time and encouraged us to do our projects and other work early. He showed concern by going to every students computer or workplace making sure they were caught up with the rest of the class. He checks and grades homework promtly each time, and informs each student the undued homework ahead of time. His requerements are always written languge, first thing aways first. he answered emails i sent to him promptly. he was also saying that if we couldn't attend our class, that we could go to his other classes, and gave the times and location of his other classes I noticed that even though some students were late in handing in their projects or assignments, he would give the students more time to get the work done and not be penalized as much. He will tell the students to see him after class during his office hours and he will help with any problems they may have with the assignments or projects. helped indivisuals A set schedule for help and always open when he says he is. Mr L would come into the lab after class to help students and constally asked how we were doing. He is willing to help with whatever computer problem we have. If he knows you need help he will find a way to get to you before he leaves. Mr. L. shows concern for students when they have a difficult time in getting the work completed. He goes over the work several times with students who seem to have challenge in understanding the material. Basically,he wants to make sure that every student is competent in knowing the material that is covered every week. Philip Lavoie showed concern for students by emailing students to let them know what assignments are due and if they have late work they have 2 weeks to do it. He went over the students who were behind during the beginning of class when he was taking attendance. He was all over the class room helping each student on a personal one to one basis that seemed to help everybody that need the help. He show us a hint to everything before he give us a activity.

Yes! I have recommended him to students because his class is very straight forward and fun. Yes. If you just need to get through this course quickly and already have decent computer knowledge then he will help you understand it better in how to apply it to real world situations. If you know almost nothing about computers and need more help with someone who goes through it slowly then he is not right for you. i would recommend him because he teaches you what you dont know and doesnt beat around the bush when he does. I am head strong, to learn something totally new usually takes me much longer time than others can imagine. Mr Lavoie's class is OK with free exploring and discovery. That is what I like the most about this class. 13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

This guy is the man!! Super friendly. Gets down to the point. Doesnt like to waste time he teaches us by showing example. He knows what he is teaching great jokes, very funny Very enthusiastic man that enjoys what he does organization Getting things done quick Very funny and easy going. Knew the subject area well and is very organzied in very aspects of the semester projects. Demonstrate great understanding for students of all level/ability when it comes to the subject. He is very knowledgeable in computers his materials are quite clear Showing the student how to do their project and telling student to do it by them self. I really enjoy having Mr. Lavoie as my instructor. He is very thorough in explaining the assignments in class. He makes class fun and entertaining. He takes his time out of class to help me better understand the area that we were covering in class. He is very organized with the class schedule, assignments, and exams. nothing he is so funny so it makes learning fun He assigns a project and show how to do the project in class, so it makes things simple. Mr. Lavoie is great at providing thorough explanations on project requirements and grading assignments immediately. He knows what he is teaching. He also makes it clear what will be asked of us in the REAL world. his sense of humor! He is very good with html and microsoft office products like its the back of his hand. He knows what he's teaching and he applies it to us based on what our future jobs will probably require. He challenges us as a student and really knows how to teach us the content in a way we can remember for future reference. Haha. He's very sensible and funny. He gives very clear explanations. his schedule for assignments on when they were due. Fun and interactive teaching style outgoing and funny HILARIOUS IN HIS OWN UNIQUE WAY THAT SETS THE PACE OF THE CLASS AND ATMOSPHERE IN A POSITIVE WAY. HELPFUL, HIS MOTIVATIONAL STYLY GETS STUDENTS TO GET GOING ON PROJECTS AND ASSIGNMENTS THROUGHOUT THE COURSE.. MR LAVOIE IS A POSTIVE TEACHER. :D HE GOES THROUGH ALL PROJECT THROUGHLY FIRST BY READING WHAT HIS EXPECTATIONS ARE AND GUIDELINES FOR THE PROJECT. THEN STEP BY STEP MANNUALLY SHOWING US HOW TO DO IT AND LAST HELPING US ON OUR WAY TO THE BEST RESULTS WITH INCENTIVES FOR EXTRA POINTS IF DONE EARLY AND RIGHT. He creates a good atmosphere for learning and is always willing to help. He knows his subject. He knew his material. Has a good background in ICS. Loud voice interacts with the students grades fairly gave time to students who couldn't move as fast as the others VERY OUTSPOKEN, KNOWLEDGEABLE IN HIS MATERIAL, COMEDIAN he knows the subject really well but he talks way tooo fast. hes very funny, interesting , and smart, and has a lot of experience in the material He takes the time to help every student over and over and over of the same material... he has great patience!!! He uses humor great as well!!!! very knowledgable in the course.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

noting He got side tracted a lot talk slower and help the students who need help on the specific area of help Nothing none, i enjoyed the class and did very well. Remind us of the goal of each week, assignments, etc. none To be more patient. Some students are taking ICS 101 because we need to learn how to use microsoft office. We do not have 20 years of computer experience behind us so if you can do something in 5 minutes good for you you should be able to if you have been doing it for as long as you say you have. Have more consideration for the students who don't speak english as there primary language and don't speak down to them just because of the english barrier. They are not stupid. If we ask a question it is YOUR job as an instructor to answer our question. If we ask the question its because we don't understand. You are the teacher and that is what we pay tuition for....FOR YOU TO TEACH US. As for grading our assignments in class you should be grading them and not having us grade them for you. It is a waste of class time for me to sit there and wait for you to go to each student and grade there projects. This time should be spent on explaining, teaching or answering questions. None Ithink that he needs to learn how to listen carefully what students say. I suggest him spend time teaching on TIA. I think TIA is really important and if he teaches it instead of us reading it by ourselves, we will learn a lot more about computer. MR L ROCKS NO CHANGES NEEDED!!! be nicer to international students nothing, he may be a fast paced teacher but that is because we have so much things to cover over 15 weeks. None haha. Keep up the GREAT work. try not to make fun of students, may be funny to most of the class, but that student might feel uncomfortable. i also reccomend to try and extend the myitlab assignments. students have other classes too, myitlab assignments can take up hours just to finish one section. a two-three week deadline seems reasonable compared to one week. Too ruthless be more calm NO...:D none, i thought the class was taught well. Try to explain things better to students. Dont expect them to know what u are saying. Slow down when you speak or give instructions. Write more clearly as to what you want done. Everything seems annotated and only you can understand the notes.- NONE Have him better organize his quiz. Its hard to understand. none Easy or simplify your questions sometimes on exams! more sensitive towards students and their concerns.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

He was very accessible for students who needed extra help outside of class or to make-up missed tests, quizzes, or assignments. he will help us even outside the class if we have any questions. He made sure everyone got the points they deserved helping us in the office hours Avalible in and out of class Keeping us up to date with grades Prof. Lavoie shows concern for students by allowing those who are behind on their works to come to his other classes. He also spend a lot of time helping students during his office hours. He is always available to help when you it! If he did he had a funny way of showing it. Most of the time he ridiculed the students. he send email about grading and reminder what is coming in the next week , everyweekend Professor Lavoie show concern by always asking student if they need help or not. If some student needs extra help he ask them to visit him in his other class. He would encourage students to do well in class. He once asked me why so low of a score on one of the assignments and asked if I needed help. none he is always shows you how to do something if something does not make sense He checks with students that didn't do the homework mostly every class. He made himself available to students outside of scheduled class hours through email; which he responded to promptly. He went from one person to the next to grade projects and quizzes. He also allowed a lot of late work and extra credit. He was very nit picky about about every single detail on our projects and exams because he wants us to use all these programs the right and easy way. He takes the time to let us ask him for help and constantly tells us his office hours and any other class times we could find him, during which, he offers help. Gives students extra credit he always checked with students on what assigments were missing and asked them to do it so they can get partial credit. He helps them individually and makes sure they understand the material he talks about the missing students to other students ALWAYS GIVING OPPORTUNITIES TO MEET HIM AFTER CLASS, BEFORE CLASS, DURING HIS OTHER CLASSES TO MAKE UP OR GO OVER THINGS DISCUSSED IN CLASS. He offered his office hours and any time he could spare. Made sure everyone had enough time. he always said there was time after a certain period to meet in the computer room to finish up the work Helped out students by offering alot of open times, and accepting late work. HE WENT TO EVERY STUDENT THAT NEEDED HELP AND HELP THEM TO THE END!! HE EVEN LET US TURN IN LATE WORK THAT WAS DUE MORE THAN 3 WEEKS!! IN THAT TIME PERIOD A LOT OF US STUDENTS TOOK THAT OPPORTUNITY TO BRING OUR GRADES UP AND SUCCEEDED THANKS TO P. LAVOIE. If you get stuck on something like a project he is willing to help you Mr. Lavoie really demonstrates his patience by staying over his allotted office hours time too help us understand a project.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes. He did a great job in showing us how to apply the stuff we learned to our life i will. it is because i learn a lot in a fun way. i like this class. Yes, his class is an easier, less stressful was to get ICS 101 credit that applies to UH Manoa not recommended for international students Yes, because he offers a interesting view of his course Maybe. If you can learn in a quick past environment with not much help from the teacher Yes! He is a very entertaining professor, while still expecting you to get your work done. You will learn a lot from his course and will always get the help that you need via email or office hours. If you speak english as a primary language then yes, if not take another instructor. Yes, because he show and tell the student eacha nd every detail to do the assignment. I would recommend Mr. Lavoie to any student who would want to take this course. He understands the area that he is teaching. He is thorough in explaining everything. If you didn't understand something, he would take time out to help you understand it. soso Yes I would recommend him to students. YES BECAUSE HE IS A GREAT TEACHER! Yes! He is one of the few teachers I've had so far that keep it very real. He is straightforward, and that is exactly what students need these days. yes because he's a cool teacher Yes because he makes you learn things that you will end up using in the future unlike other classes that you take. I would recommend him because his class is a lot different from all the other classes I've ever taken. Everything is about quality and efficiency. The class is very fair and you get a lot out of the class. Yes. he's a great teacher! I didn't know much about Microsoft Office... after I took his class, I learned a lot more~ i am neutral on this question. Yes, because he teaches a lot, while being fun at the same time hell yes YESSSSSSSSSS FUN AND EASY ASSIGNMENTS. yes i would recommend Philip Lavoie becasue he creates a good atmosphere and knows his subject area and explains things until you understand. Its neutral. maybe maybe not Yes, You'll learn and if your quick get free time. HELLS YEAH!!! SUPER AWESOME TEACHER!! yes hes really helpful and funny. Always talking about football. yes yes. and I have already!!!!! sure, he provides many opportunities for students to get better grades.

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

even i'm not really good to speak in english, i really enjoy this class. cool guy Overall, your class was one of my favorites this semester. Very entertaining with the right amount of work loads. Although some of the works (especailly the IT study plans) were sort of crazy, the knowledge I gained makes everything worthwhile. Nice teacher He is fair to all students. .. MR L YOU ROCK! Give him a raise! He's an awesome teacher! Learned alot! 18. Other comments:

There are lots of international students in KCC. I don't want to get special treatment from a teacher, but I want him to understand international students' difficulties among natives. This course uses myitlab. I also took ICS100 which uses simnet. I prefer simnet because myitlab had some technical issues. However, I like this class much better than ICS100. Because of their assignments. Philip Lavoie's assignments game me the contents so I was able to concentrate the features of Microsoft Office. I ENJOYED YOUR CLASS EVERY TIME I CAME!! i had such a great time this semester...i'm signing up for his ics101 class! :) I had the most fun learning in his class this semester, and learned things about Microsoft Office that I didn't know about. I always looked forward to attending his classes. He always makes students nervous. He makes students haste. He always says something sarcasm. During the class, he was talking taling talking, which distracted our work.

He understands the importance of a higher education and is more than willing to provide it. Mr. Lavoie was incredible with time and efforts in offering a clear understanding of his course content. Every class was incredible with Mr. Lavoies interest and time and efforts extending his knowledge and skills. There can not be a better instructor !!!! Very Entertaining Class his knowledge on the subject Great subject knowledge and was able to make class fun and enjoyable. organized and fast He knew what he was talking about when teaching the subject and taught us out of the book short cuts and tricks Flexibility, Humor, and understanding. easy to understand, and practical teaching methods. -He knows the material very well -He is willing to answer any and all questions related and unrelated to ICS -He is willing to work with students in his office hours as well as during his other class times -He admits when he doesnt know something or when he is wrong -He communicates well through email always giving updates and assignments in a timely manner He always encouraged us to get better grades. very understanding toward his students..he takes time to help his students in and outside of class. He really teaches us to do projects by using Micosoft by ourself, and he is vey patient and funny teacher. He knows about Microsoft proceesor. good Funny, fast paced, knows his stuff, hilarious Mr. Lavoie knows his subject very well. He always makes class interesting and informative. He got the studentes envolved. He reallly knows what hes talking about and makes it seem easy so you can understand it. He know the material of the course and show us a lot easy way to do computer stuff. Knew his material, taught very effective, easy to comprehend, confident. This teacher is real. Knows the subject well. Very tentative to students and is concerned about work being done. Great teacher. fun teacher, help student when in need.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

NoNE. Keep it the same please. NONE !!! Make the schedule a little clearer. It is good, but if its clearer then I would be happier. none Pace was a little fast in the beginning, but once we got everything down it was easy to get into a system. go do some meditation and chill out. people take ics to learn computer skills. not get yelled at. were not in elementary school so being yelled at is unacceptable. having some MyitLab done in class, so students actually remember to do the lessons, and remind people of dates more effectively. I know it's a students responsibility, but a teacher is the best support. none. it works. ...I really hated the MyITLab lectures and study plans... I recognize that there probably isn't that many other progams (if any) that can be used to teach this subject area, but I can always hope for better technology right? Nothing special. do more textbook assignments so students have a better understanding of what they are doing. Add some hand-in exercise in the Mid-term and final. dont get too nuts at students None None. Calm down a little and hear out what the person is saying. Sometimes they have a legit question or point. No, I think the class is good enough. None No IT LAB I'd like the myITlab to go far far away because it is a headache but I appreciate the 50 extra points given! None nothing

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Concern? He has been the most helpful and out going person I have met from the entire KCC staff. He went completely out of his way to make sure I understood my assignments. The time and effort that Mr. Lavoie offered was way beyond the norm. Mr. Lavoie showed an interest in ALL of his students that giving his time and efforts with regards to his knowledge and skill is beond any measure. I have NEVER seen such ability and capability so willingly extended to us students. Much Mahalo Mr. L. !!!! Respectfully, Gary W. Johnson Well, stayed after classes to instruct students who were behind. by asking for there whereabout Really wanted us to figure things out for ourselves first because that is the best way for us to learn instead of someone just telling us or someone else doing it for us. This showed he really cares about us learning. clearly showed the students what they needed to do and gave them advice answered emails? giving lots of flexibility, and understanding. office hours, and effective enough to facilitate learning by moving quickly between individual students. -Like it was said earlier he was always willing to meet with students during his office hours and even during his other class times -He always updated grades and let us know in a timely manner -He was always walking around duing class helping students when they ran into trouble during the projects, tests, and study plans He always clearly mentioned about it and tried to fix it. through emails and constantly keeping us posted with our current grades. He shows how to do project in classroom. He are willing to help student outside the class. Organized class. Help and offer to meet students after class who needed help. Also let us turn in late work for some credit. Mr. Lavoie always let the students know what assignments they were missing, and he was always available 30 minutes after each of his classes, and was available for help outside of those times. He was always there wheneve i needed help in this ics class. He listened to your reasons and was forgiving with certain things. He always was there for office hours and willing to get everything done. Showed you the best ways to improve yoru grades and keep up. If we don't know how to use some program or don't how to finish the assignment, he will help us. good.. and he is so funny.. He encouraged students to see him for help, email when needed, and offers to meet outside of school if needed, constant emails to inform assignmets due and the current grades He made objectives and deadlines clear, the class was interesting and mostly every class time was at full capacity. personaly helped us. He allowed late work to be turned in. help student after class.

I sure would because he is more than just a great instructor hes a good guy. YES,YES, YES !!! The course content that Mr. Lavoie so willingly and skillfully offered is PARAMOUNT yes, he is funny Yes, he is a great prof. to take ICS from. yes, because it is a fun class Yes, definitely, very knowledgeable, makes learning easy, class in general very practical and useful, would take another class from him for sure. YES!! cool teacher and a fun class he justs demonstrate the projects we need to do the next time one single time, which is hard to remember everything at once.. it might be better to demonstrate it step by step and let us follow it, and it will be more effective and easier to understand what we are doing. In my case i had to take videos with my cell phone every time he shows something cuz i wasn't able to remember every single thing and do it again next time for the projects and quzzizes.. I understand it because we have to cover so many things throughout the semester which makes it super fast-paced, but may be it would be better to slow it down and relax a bit and learn about each thing in little more detail. I did all the access,excel, html stuffs but now i barely remember what I learned.. nah, not really cause other teachers would explain computer skills better yes, because this is a class good for those to get ics basics and his flexibility helps those that work full time. yes. although the online material can be frustrating, this class is very good for understanding applications students will use in future classes. Yes, He knows ICS like the back of his hand and can communicate how to do things in Microsoft Office very well. The projects and tests make sense and are graded in a fair manner. Yes, if you work hard and you get good score and Mr. Lavoie always help you if you need. yes because hes a very nice and fair teacher. Yes, he is a nice teacher and I learn things from him. yes! He povide time and good study plan. Yes, easy, straight foward and funny yes i would recomend Mr. Lavoie to other students; i aleady have. I tell them that the ics class is the most important class they will ever take in their colege carear. the future is the computer and why not take it from a professor who not only knows his material, but makes class enjoyable to be in? Yeah because you KNOW computers after. He shows you everything inside and out and makes you use it so you learn it for good. Plus his projects are fun. Yes, he is a good teacher and can help students to understand computer more. sure.. because he is so good and funny... Yes he's a good teacher and the classes are not a drag I would recommend this teacher. Not only did I learn a massive (and absolutely useful)amount of material painlessly, the class was enjoyable. Sure Yes! Because he is an interesting teacher and classes are fun. Yes, great teacher. yes, he made the class fun and easy to learn.

Too many can't specify. Class is always enjoyable, he is clear when talking, and makes sure we understand what we are learning. He really know his subject area. He knew how to do everything that he needed to teach and answered any questions that we had asked. Clear speaker, funny guy, let students do late work He is 1337 h4cks!!!!! cool teacher His major strengths were knowing his course and being able to tell us what we did correct and what we did wrong. He explains things in a way the students will understand. The Instructor taught me how to really pay attention in class and he also taught me that college level learning is not high school level learning anymore,meaning that college is very serious and you got to give 100% to do good in college. Mr Lavoie's teaching style was strict in a good way that he took control of his class like a professor should. He was very linient on giving us second chances and to make up any missed assignments, he also gave us extra bonus points for turning in your projects early and taught us lots of extra stuff regarding the ICS. Everytime I e-mail him regarding class assignments, he replied right back in a timely matter and when I needed help he was always there for me and he also told me where to get help when he was not available. I really enjoyed taking Mr.Lavoie class. I would take his class again but my major does not require me to go higher than ICS 100 but I might still take his class next semester anyway. Don't bring one's mistakes to everyone's attention. listen to your students when they don't understand something and then explain clearly to them till they understand. Don't be too harsh on your student because they are in this class to learn. So teach them don't just give a review. Be more specific on what you want on the assignments. Don't rush too much. There are some students who may be new to using a computer. Some students may not understand the first or second time. I'm not speaking for myself Taking out simnet lessons the instructor's tone of voice and constant reminders that children could do this work made me feel like he was talking down to the class. he was rushed and often times seemed impatient making me nervous and unwilling to ask questions. Too many, can't specify. Nothing his class is the bomb! The only thing I think would make this instructor better is if he did not always tell us "My friends 5 year-old daughter can do power point". I did not think it was necessary that he repeat it every class period to say that we were slow because we didn't understand the concepts and weren't as fast as he was in doing the projects. If we knew how to do everything in this class and could do it as fast as he did, we would not be taking this class. none nothing Changes he could take into consideration are being patient with students such as international or foreign who are struggling. more projects less simnet exams. He helped them with what they didn't understand and accepted late work. He took care of us. He ask if anyone needs help. He answered emails promptly and was available during office hours as well as during breaks. He also let you attend his other classes if you missed your normal class so you won't fall behind or just so you could listen to the material again if you didn't get it the first time. He posted their grades, let them know that they could always come to him for help, as well as attend his other classes if they needed more help or further instructions. He was available when needed When someone wasn't doing well in the course he would make a plan to help them get back on track and gave them mannny chances to turn in late assignments constant reminders about late work and willing to allow makeup. No comment. Always offering help for his students and helping out when needed. He was always available for e-mail. let the students turn in late work, his thought was that since students pay for the class they should be given the opportunity to turn in all the work that they paid for. The instructor showed concern by further explaining to us what we needed help on. he made sure everyone is on the same track. Mr. lavoie kept track of everybody and that showed that he cared. Reminded them of assignments and exams. - Walked around to make sure everyone was on the same page. - worked one on one with the slower students while keeping the advanced students learning new material. reminders and help offered help outside of class; offered credit for late work

Sure. You learned the material and it was not stressful. Yes. It is a very good class and the instructor is very enagetic. Yes if you want an easy A and if you already know how to use a computer and applications. No if you don't know how to use it. Yes! Mr. L's a cool dude! He's fair and very helpful! yes. he's a fair teacher. As long as you came to class and did the assignments, there was no reason for not passing the class Yes, he makes class fun If the student can handle his ruff personality and harsh speech then yes he is a good instructor. definately. you do the work and you get credit. it doesn't get much easier than this guy No comment. Fo sho! if you want to learn about computers this teacher is awesome! he makes class fun and you still learn a handful at the end. Sure. I mean minus his comments that weren't always necessary, he knew his information and could perform it for the whole class. He was pretty flexible with projects and gave us a chance to make up late work for 50% credit. yes yes I would recommend this instructor to students because his class is a great way to get hands on experience on computer technologies. yes, hes a very good teacher and i learned a lot from him. Basically every mess up cause improvements in understanding the course. It was very helpful. He made sure that everyone was on track with online assignments. responded to emails. gives us a second chance to do makeup work.
