did well
The only philosophy I believe in or care about is that of my own.
This was an elective class for me but it was very thought provoking and really opened my eyes about my own values, morals and humanity.
This course gave be a greater understanding of the political viewpoints of people around the world. As a Humanities major, I feel this course added to my ability to understand and appreciate the differences in different political minds.

Excellent, intelligent, and energetic.
Mei-Lin is one of the best lecturers in West Oahu. She is very informed about any of her subject matters and truly helps us to understand in a simple, factual way that's really easy. She's a definite asset at UH West Oahu.
She was a really good teacher and she was very easy to talk to.
An excellent professor who is dedicated to sharing her knowledge with her students. She is always open and welcome to questions, which made the classroom atmosphere enjoyable. It was inspiring to learn from someone who is so interested in her field of Philosophy.

Good
Great for any major and definitely a plus for any student.
This was a good course because I was finally able to understand what philosophy was about. Meilin touched on a lot of different perspectives and different philosophers, which was very interesting to learn.
A way to understand the viewpoints of the great political minds. It was intriguing to see what the creators of these types of governments wanted to include in them, and how they have been changed as they became part of society.

N/A
This has definitely enhanced my professional development in this major.
I took this class just as an elective. There were times where I felt really lost because the readings were a little difficult to read. But when she explains the material in the lectures, I found most of it quite interesting. I am actually a Psychology major but it was amusing to think of human nature in a more logical, mindful way.
This course has opened a lot of ideas and strengthened my understanding of Western thought as well as being introduced to many different thinkers of the ancient world. This has definitely provided a great deal thought to "What does it mean to live a good life? What does it mean to be a good person? What does it mean to be human?"
It reinforced what I previously learned.

No change! I loved that variety of teaching methods (including PowerPoint, youTube, books, etc) because it all contributed to teaching our class the philosophical concepts and everything in a serious, yet enjoyable way.
I personally felt that the style and methods executed in this course does not need any revisions.
I didn't really like how there was three oral presentations. I felt like the topic response presentations weren't really necessary. I wish there was more lectures on the material towards the end of the semester but due to presentations, it cut the lectures short.
Perhaps you can give guidelines next time on how to do an oral presentation. When presenters would do a presentation on the summary of the reading, I found it distracting that they keep repeating "I don't understand."Which is perfectly fine to say but to say it over and over again, became distracting and hard to follow along their presentation. Their confusion, confused me.

I wish she was with UHWO sooner. I would have loved taking more if not most of my classes with her.
17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She's an excellent professor. This was my first philosophy and speech class and although the work was conceptually challenging, it was manageable, and she was always there to help and guide us when we got lost. Very nice and fun too!
She makes learning fun and breaks down material so it's easier for students like me to understand.
The overall course was a great experience and allowed me to expand my own philosophy on life.
She is one of my favorite professors. She is very easy to talk to and makes the material so much easier to understand. She is very open minded to the ideas brought up in class which makes discussions quite interesting and intellect.
Professor Chinn teaches very effectively and is very open to the ideas of, not only the great thinkers she has introduced, but to that of her students as well! She does have a way of making you think. She always has a answer and does not make students feel uncomfortable about their answers and thoughts.
Meilin is an exceptional teacher. She makes me think in different perspectives because of her fresh twist on the way she deliverss philosophy. I would highly recommend her classes to anyone.

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Terrific! The material was tough, but we were able to learn a lot through readings and discussions with our professor and classmates.
I want to say her class is fairly easy but what makes this class difficult is understanding the material and giving it your own interpretation and questioning.
This course was very enlightening and very well organized. The materials, lectures, and homework flowed very well and kept up with the schedule.
A must to learn anything about Philosophers.
Everything was spot on, and everyday in class was fun. My overall evaluation of this course is A+!

2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
Buddhism is an interesting subject to incorporate with an English Major. Buddhists feel that words are an inaccurate representation of life, which gave me an opportunity to examine the value of language in literature and in life.
I took this class because I needed the writing intensive credit. I personally like this class because I always found Buddhism to be an interesting philosophy/religion. Although I am a Psychology major, I like taking Philosophy classes such as this one because it discusses human nature in a more intellectual, mindful point of view.
I was interested in the course and I needed this course to graduate.
The course helped my to understand another philosophical thought that can be used to analyze certain matters.
This class constantly brought my stuff up close and personal. It gave me many different views in how do deal with things and to put them into perspective.
Provided a excellent perspective on Buddhism. Class has nothing to do with my major but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Professor Chinn is awesome! No improvements necessary
17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
A professor open and ready to examine new thoughts and ideas. I enjoyed learning about Buddhism who was interested in the concepts, but did not consider herself a Buddhist. Her instructional methods allowed the class to be more than just a study of religion, but a philosophical view of how we can choose to enjoy life.
She is one of my favorite professors. All her lectures are very insightful and she is always there to help whether its understanding the material or answering a philosophical question.
She's an amazing professor. I'm excited to continue taking her classes next semester.
She's a great professor that really knows her field. I was very comfortable talking to her and she helped me a lot when I didn't understand something.
Great professor!

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Extremely educational view of Buddha's teachings, and how they were transformed through the generations. This class opens thoughts to all religions, and how their original teachings may be largely different from the modern teachings. It gave me a wonderful understanding of how religions are wonderfully unique and at the same time, one in the same. The course allowed me to understand the views of a religion that I have never had experience with. It allowed me to see Buddhism in a way that would allow me to discuss ideas, without having to change my beliefs. I feel more open to ideas of Buddha as a great philosopher.
I really enjoyed this course. I have to admit my favorite part of this class was actually the meditation because I am usually so tense in the morning but after meditation, I feel more at ease for the rest of the day. The material was interesting and the work load was reasonable. Although it is a writing intensive class, the writing amount seems very fair and reasonable for me.
I enjoyed thinking outside of the box and thinking in a deeper mindset. This class was a good way to be able to have your own mind and thoughts.
It was great, very interesting. It made you think of life through a different perspective.
Professor Chinn made the course really enjoyabl
A must to learn a different perspective on Philosophy. I totally enjoyed everything about this class, especially on meditation.
Excellent!
