21. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She takes time to help students who need help

Janine always comes to students individually and has a private conversation with them if she feels that there is a problem. If she wants us to make certain revisions to our essays, she tells us what they are and she explains why what we did was wrong. She tries to connect to each student on a personal level.

Takes her time to make sure students understand how to write the material. She is always willing to do one on one with the student to help with the assignment if they are struggling, and is also always willing to answer questions.

In class, Janine is very professional. We have a lot of class discussion and Janine will allow everyone to voice their opinion and no matter how ludacris or far out the students opinion, she allows them to not only voice it but suggests to take a closer look at it. She's very fair and not judgmental at all. I have personally heard and seen her go to different students and offer additional suggestions of help in areas they need strengthening in.

22. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

i liked the course, it was fun.

Everything

I especially liked the way that she assigned the readings. She made it so that there was a reasonable amout to read and most of the books that she assigned were really good to read. Although, I really didn't like "They say, I say." I especially didn't like the peer review. I hated printing out 3 copies of each essay, and each was 5-7 pages long. Printing is expensive and not all the students are on the same writing and understanding level, so a good essay might get a bad peer review because some students just don't understand. I also really didn't like wasting the first few weeks getting to know every student's name. I understand that it's good, but I feel like there are better things to focus on. I also didn't like group work. I think that group work is just an excuse for socialization and doesn't really get any work done.

Everything is organized, and taught step by step. It is good how the students are able to have some choice in their subject for the assignment, so that they actually have some interest in the assignment they are doing. Everything is straight forward, and time is utilized nicely in class.

Janine is an out of the box teacher. She allows for creativity and expression. The material she had us read and discuss was mainly about racism, a very real topic that still exists today. She has brought to the forefront a topic that few dare to look at. It really opens up your eyes to the world beyond our little island.

I love the way she has her syllabus organized and ready to go

Hard grader, but helps in the learning process.

I liked that we was able to discuss things that we read in the class.

Talks about life in general, a lot of the assignments were related to past issues that we were forced to confront as students. Definitely a class that encouraged individual growth!

23. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

she's a great teacher!

She great!

I like Janine as a person. I think that she feigns happiness, though, and she indulges into certain students too much. She really is nice and she is a good teacher, but the fact that she lets students pretty much run her over isn't that good. She seems as if she is always trying to cover her fear of something. I think that if she voiced her irratiation that she would have more respect from the students that are waiting for her to stand up to the stupid kids trying to run the class.

An excellent teacher! patient, and understanding. Always willing to help a student. She also takes her time to explain again what she had gone over in class.

I learned so much from this class and I truly believe that Janine has made me a better writer. She brought to my attention a style of writing that I had been doing for many years and helped me correct it. No other teacher caught it but her. There is something about her class that is engaging and fun. the one thing i really liked is that she had us get to know the other classmates. Not only did that bring our class closer together but it's the only class that a teacher cared enough to make us do. This is the only class that i have that i know all the students names. Now, i make it a point to get to know everyone in my other classes.

She is a great teacher.

24. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

I would recommend Janine to other students, but I would hope that the students taking English 100 will have the ability to understand that it is a college level course and that reading and writing is a necessary skill. I think that if the students were more serious that she would have a superb class. The material is good, and her style is good, but some of the students, at least in my class, don't take her seriously and really bring the class down.

Yes I would. A student would definitely learn something from her class, as things are explained clearly, and organized step by step, so there is a lot of opportunity to practice, and improve in writing.

I would absolutely recommend this class. Janine's class should be the mandatory English 100 class. She is an excellent teacher. She's fair, has a sense of humor, has the ability to inspire students and is a true asset to Windward Community College. I wish she taught other classes.

Yes, For those that like the challenge and teachers that are organized. This is the type of class for them.

Strongly recommended, the work load is a little intense but well worth it.

25. Other comments:

I really do like Janine. She is funny and interesting and she has great taste in music. I just think that she is very passive with her class and that brings it down a little. I think that dumb students kind of over run her class and make it difficult for the ones that really want to learn. So, I guess that the problem I have isn't with Janine or the course, but the students who shouldn't take the class that do.

A hard, but enjoyable class!

Encouraged students to schedule one on one meetings with her so that she could give them specific help in the are that they struggled in.

she assest each assignment according to the classes performance level and gives ample amount of time to turn in assingments.

She would explain everything in detail, she would always ask "does everyone understand or is there any questions that she could answer?" She always did our 5 at 5 when class starts, to refresh us on topics discussed.

She has appointments on Sundays, she offers much of her time to students who are trying to become better writers... She goes above and beyond when trying to create a successful class and a single successful student

Ms. Oshiro takes her time to plan out things nice, neat, and easy to follow for her students. She gives good suggestions, and is willing to answer any question. She gives her all, to help the student understand the subject.

By giving extra credits if you were behind or failing.

Janine showed her concerns for students by setting up conference dates to go over our writing and asking us if anything is unclear that we would like to be clarified. Also she reads and corrects our drafts and gives it back to us so that we can fix the mistakes she found and turn in a final copy into her.

Gave very helpful hand-outs. Told you step-by-step on each stage of writing a paper. Gave very clear, informative step-by-step information. Also gives a great, easy to follow syllabus that you can refer to throughout the year which clear informs you about what she will cover in class and what you should have ready to turn in.

I really enjoyed her style and technique of teaching. She found fun ways to get us involve and actually enjoy learning about sentence types. She is an exceptionally talented English teacher. Because I value organization and structure, Janine is a prime example of a well-structured instructor. I think UH should consider making Janine's technique the only technique to teach students English.

What i liked about Janine is her organization and how she literally gives us a step by step overlook on how she wants our work to be turned and how to do it.

She is very detailed and shows concern for her pupils, she would ask if there was anything more she could do to help me.

I liked the revision and recomendation part of the class. After writing a draft ( the best draft we could) we would give it to her and she would not grade it but revise it) this i believe made me a better writer because I knew what she would be looking for after i turned in the draft and she revised it. I would either fix puncutation or over haul the whole essay. It made me a better writer because she made us understand what is and what is not a good better. She was great

For this course, I like everything about it. I like how Ms. Oshiro organizes her lessons so that they build on each other, little by little, and step by step. I feel that to learn things step by step, it is the best way for a student to learn when he/she has a hard time grasping the concept.

I really loved her class. how she took time to teach our class. She is very patient with everyone and she is very easy to understand. If you are not clear with a problem, she will take her time and help that person. What I also liked about her class is she makes it fun to learn and it made me want to learn more about the subject. I have taken Englidh a few times and this is the first time that I have learned a lot and really enjoyed.

She loves to write and it rubs off on her students. She challenge us daily to be on time by doing a 5 at 5 which I think made a big difference in one stuents attendance. Though I do find this class tough, it is truly great. Though there is a lot, and it is easy to get lost, it is all for practice, and slowly understanding the concepts. Students will definitely learn something from this class, and though some may take it as a thorn in their side, as long as they try, push themselves and ask questions, they will get through it.

The amount of open office hours she has is more than ANY OTHER teacher. She helps us develop both as a group, and an individual.

She was always available to meet with any students who had questions or needed help on an essay etc..She always asked if we had any questions.

She always encouraged students to see her outside of class to discuss assignments. Her feedback was extremely helpful in writing AND analyses.

She asked about them if they didn't show up. She made sure she was available outside class hours. She encouraged one-on-one meetings for those who wanted them or showed an interest.

when i had unexpected medical problems, she allowed me to have an extension on my essay.

22. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

At first I felt like the class was being taught in a manner more suitable for children. It wasn't until later that I could appreciate her earnestness, and genuine love for the material, that she wished to share with us.

i didn't really like reading all those books because i felt like i didn't have enough time to think about it and reflect about it too. i felt like we were rushing into the next book every time.

I like group discussions.

I especially like how she made the time go by so fast. I really enjoyed her class, and was always excited for the stimulation it provided. She always got the students interested in the subject.

All the material. Reading them with emotion wasn't fun but intellectually they are golden.

I really liked her enthusiam for the course. She made her lessons seem more interesting this way.

I am not sure what I liked or disliked about the way she had taught this course.

I've already recommended many students. It's hard to find a teacher who cares so much.

Yes, I just told you. She is great teacher that will not bore you...always supportive.

I came into the class looking to fulfill a requirement. I'm leaving it with an appreciation for poetry, and an understanding of how it can help me develop as a person. I may not ever love poetry as much as Ms, Oshiro, but I will keep reading it, and maybe writing it.

Janine was available during office hours and helped me revise each paper. It was very helpful and appreciated. She also sets up class conferences to allow the students to discuss their projects.

Janine shows concern for her students by being available in class and outside of class to help them if they need help with certain assignments, and she clearly addresses what they need to change or improve on within the class.

She was very helpful, i would prefer to have more visual aids, perhaps some powerpoints with grammar on them. i could not remember much of the terms she taught us.

I liked the fact that I feel that I have accomplished something and learned a lot.

Everything seemed like a conversation. There was no lecturing or talking at us.

My only qualm is the slight modification of schedule that bunched a lot of the assignments up in the last week. It was a bit hectic.

I enjoyed how she used a lot of group discussions and made us interact with others around us. It made the class more enjoyable.

I like that Janine is fair with all her students through grading. She also makes sure all of her students participate and are all on the same page.

Yes she does.

She was sensitive to situations that might have hindered students from completing assignments

by making herself available for students to come to her for any needed help.

She did. Ms. Oshiro was available outside of class for any extra help. If there were valid circumstances that prevented a student from completing an assignment she allowed them to turn it in at a later date.

By explaining it to them in a nice way

She was always available to help students with revising there essays and encourage students to come see her if they were having problems

She individually talked to students and tried to help each one to her best ability

She was always willing to meet with us outside of class for extra help. I liked that she was very caring and willing to go the extra mile for us. She was very helpful with any questions of further explanation that we needed.

She was always attentive to our needs and made herself available for all. Janine kept our grades posted on laulima which helped keep me aware of the curriculum needed to achieve an A in her class.

Janine Oshiro allowed students to make appointments before or after class for students that needed help. She gave many opportunities for students to succeed and improve.

Janine has shown concern for each of her students by being present and excited about each day. There is never a day where she is not happy or unmotivated to start and that what I like about her most. I hope to one day have those qualities.

Janine Oshiro is always will to help each student individually if they need help with the subject material. She helps you see the bigger picture in writing, and provides ways to help solve gramatical problems when doing essays.

She explains clearly and helps out when she sets people into smaller groups. This I find especially helped because she wanted people do help each other among themselves but even when the class was broken up she would make sure every one was headed in the right direction.

I believe she really cares about how the students learn. She was always asking us questions and there was never a questioned she did not answer. She truly showed that she cared for us students by focusing on us one by one and making it clear on the problems we had to fix in our writing styles.

I like the use of time in class to go over material and the five at five is like a mini refresher. I wasnt a huge fan of the weekly forums on current events just because it was hard to remember to do them.

I loved the books she used they were awesome. I learned so much especially from They say/ I say and The Little Penguin Handbook. I now have the confidence it's going to take to further my education and look forward to the writing intensive classes with a lot less fear. I plan on keeping both books because they will definitely come in handy.

I like the writing process. Janine broke the material down for the students, and taught each step of the process effectively.

I liked how Janine has taught this course. She didn't overdo anything and she set it at a pace where everyone was able to finish in time, and if not she was always willing to extend time if necessary.

I especially like how her assignments keep you busy throughout the semester, and makes you want to kee learning.

She made it a lot more fun. I don't always like english but the way that she taught the course made it very interesting and I actually looked forward to coming to class. The assignments were all relative to the material. I really saw that I was learning a lot in the class that would help me out later.

The 5 and 5 are very helpful and insightful.

I believe professor Oshiro was great in this course. Before I took her class I didn't understand how to do certain things in essays, but I learned a lot in her class. The only downfall is the grading system. I was really discouraged by it. You get 10 points and it barely bumps you up a percentage, but you lose 3 points and you're looking at a big downfall.I felt like I was constantly being knocked down no matter what I did. If I had known this was how the grading system was I would have taken another class.

I had so many doubts when I first came to class and Janine quickly managed to disolve those feelings. I now have the confidence to succeed in classes to come and she said if any of us ever need help don't hesitate to make an appointment.

Janine helped me when I asked for it and she understands that sometimes life outside of school can be challenging.

By not only answering specific questions but going into detail on how you can better understand your own problems personally and the overlying concepts that need to be learned.

She makes the class talk in small groups, then an overall open class discussion so people can experiment sharing their ideas. She really tries and tries until you absolutely understand.

She showed concern by asking how we are doing at the beginning of each day. Then based on our feedback, she's able to gage her plan of action for us. I also appreciated the way she opens up the class early for those that needed to talk with her. She never made us feel lesser when we weren't keeping up with the schedule. I appreciated the fact that it wasn't all about deadlines per se, it was all about our learning experience.

I guess I wasn't as prepared as I should have been for this class and I like the way things were structure.

She was very open, kind, and well organized. Her teaching style is extremely competent and I enjoyed this class very much.

She has a great knack for the English language and implements the laulima service to make the class very hands on interactive even from home. I like the way she encourages peer review and supports us to comment on each others topics and discussions. It was the first time that I wasn't afraid of English 100; it made me excited to experiment putting my thoughts down and articulating my ideas on paper. Gave me a good feeling like my thoughts got more organized.

I loved the topics that she shared; the films were eye-openers. She gave us the right kind of motivation to get us researching and taking a stand on our beliefs and values. I enjoyed her reading to us, and that she enjoyed reading for us. Her activities allowed us to get to know each other a little bit more, and to share each others take on the subjects.

I actually learned stuff from her english class compared to Dalhman's.

I did not like some of the reading from the books. it was hard to understand even after several times reading it.

I love everything especially when she believed in me to get all my work done.

I especially liked the feedback Janine was willing to provide. Janine is always encouraging us to do well and work at succeeding. She explained material well and made sure to check if we were catching on to the material presented each and every class session.

I must say that I liked the award I was given for having a perfect attendance, a book she carefully picked out based on my background information.

She's a bright, energetic, creative, compassionate, and confident woman. She has a can do attitude. By her being involved with the poem reading, and sewing her own costumes, and her other ideas, she inspires us, believes in us, and wants only to empower us to communicate our ideas, beliefs, and expressions on paper. We're unique, and she allows us to communicate what we have to offer.

Janine is a great teacher. I feel she cared and understood her students. For example, when we had a class discussion in the beginning of the semester and everyone explained how we had to read the material over and over again, Janine explained how that re-reading materials is necessary and normal, putting everyone at ease. Janine is great with giving us good feedback and suggestions without making us feel inadequate. Janine also holds to her standards set at the beginning of the year, setting the tone and expectations at an obtainable and reasonable place. Janine also updated her grades in a timely matter which helped me to know where I was in her class and where I needed to improve.

Janine made sure she was available for students who needed help with anything or if we did not understand something we had done in class.

Janine showed her concerns by meeting with us individually to go over some of our work.

She would ask to meet with her after class or we set a meeting with her in her office.

she helped tell us what are weak spots were and taught us how to improve them.

She helps all students equally and involves everyone during individual and class work.

Janine Oshiro showed concern for students by, reminding each and everyone of us that if we did not turn in any of our paragraphs on time to turn them in as soon as possible. If none were turned in, points will be taken off and your grade will go down. For tests she would have re-takes for those students who failed any of her tests, for them to have time to re-take it. Also if you felt like you were falling behind in class, she would recommended her students to make an appointment to talk with her to see if there was a way to catch up.

She showed it by looking at he student making eye to eye contact. Listening very attentively and every now and then uses correct choices of words to let them know she heard us. She uses different examples if we don't get it the first time. If there isn't enough time she will see us after class by making appointments with each individual.

Janine definitely shows interest in her students,Especially if she wants them to be a great writer someday. She goes through her materials in class as well as book work. She does help us develop skills where we can enhance our writing skills and know when their is an in correct sentence. I can say that I have learned a lot from her. It has helped me to write back not only in her class but my future classes as well.

Janine constantly reminds her students the times she would be in her office so that we could set up meetings with her. She always double checks on nay questions we might have on certain parts of the assignments and she always encourages us to be great writers. She is a great teacher and i am glad that i took this course.

She made english fun to learn. She really helped me over come my difficulties in subjects in prepositional phrases, types of sentences i never knew had, and through my paragraphs I learned how to see my mistakes and to correct them.

I don't have any dislikes. I liked everything about her class and she was able to give us examples of certain assignments that would benefit us in the near future.

I would recommend my friends and anyone because of her style of teaching. I have Attention Deficit Disorder and learning has been very difficult during this semester. I have been on medication now for 7 1/2 months now. Rearranging my life to fit school hasn't been easy but I managed to get through so far. I have a inner drive to come to class even though I should have stayed home (too sick). I am able to read and comprehend just by looking at a book now. The difficult areas tend to take more of my time but after all of that I learned something. I still have to grasp my current lessons but found that I know I can do it. She made me appreciated my ADD in a positivie way instead of only the negative way.

i would like to say if homework worth over fifteen points should be able to be turned in late. One time i turned in a paragaraph the next day and she never excepted it. That paragraph can really help my grade.

4. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?

I wrote in different mediums so it wasn't just the same old thing. I wrote poems and short stories that broke the mold of what I was used to. New experiences with different people and learning material was also important. I appreciated reading my work without having to worry what people would say. Everyone was really supportive of everybody and that made it fun to come to class.

This course helped me to learn time management and efficiency. there was a lot of reading in such short periods of time. With my busy schedule I needed to make sure to set time aside to complete my assignments.

I learned that its fun to read.

A new outlook on literature and am now able to think deeper into readings

She presents the topic as a question. She doesn't lead the discussion, but more just keeps it flowing with our own ideas and interpretation. I don't think she minds going over parts of the reading so that we get more out of than the first time. She's always open for a conference.

Janine is always willing to help. She always makes sure we completely understand the material. She not only explains it to us, she also assigns work that is directly related to what we are doing. This assures thorough knowledge of everything that is going on. When grading our papers, she writes down suggestions, and always offers constructive criticism. She always offers to edit our papers before they are due to help us get a better grade.

She asked us questions about the homework to make sure we understood.

Constantly asking us if we need help with anything or pushing us to figure things out. Always willing to answer questions.

She is always willing to help her students improve and goes out of her way.

she took time separate from class time to help students if they needed it.

She made sure to remind everyone of the upcoming projects. During a week that was very full of work, she broke the work up, pushed the due dates back, and reprinted our course schedule to reflect the changes.

She always asks if there are any questions and asks us if we need help with our work.

27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

The work was manageable and she didn't rush through anything she assigned. I was okay with the discussions because I learned way more through them. I wished I put more work into Whitman/Dickinson essay. I'm still not confident in writing a comparison and contrast essay.

The way the course is conducted it forces us to do our best. Every project I did, I tried my best because I knew that we would havce to present it to the class. My classmates also served as motivation. Everyone participated, and were very positive and respectful to eachother. The poetry section was very scary at first. when we needed to actually write poems that was the hardest for me. When I was finished I felt the greatest sense of accomplishment. That was a challenge for me. I never had to do anything like that.

I hated all the presentations. I would take that out.

Janine is extremely passionate about the subject, and is very knowledgable. She uses her past experiences to relate to our struggles. The books she assigned to read were books that she had read in college. Although she has her opinions on certain topics, she is always open to hear what we have to say. She encourages us to think for ourself, and to not be afraid to share ideas. She also grades failry, and explains everything we need to do to get a good grade.

Janine Oshiro is truly one of the most caring, talented, and giving teachers I have ever met in my life. She is always there to help, encourage, and motivate the students to give their all and to never give up. I have never seen someone that shows so much love to their students. whenever i have a problem, she is there to listen and help with assignments,conflicts with others and continues to encourage me even when i want to quit.she always shows concern when someone isn't in class and worries when someone is ill.

Janine Oshiro is always available. When she comments our work, she takes time to specifically shows a need to understand our writing, and guides us on track. It is very apparent that she is paying attention by those comments.

She spoke with me one on one about late work and encouraged me to complete it and turn it in.

She always willing and able to take questions and give answers. Always encourages us to make appointments and see her for help.

I believe she showed concern for her students by the way she presented the material to our class. She didn't single people out by exposing their level. She also made examples and topics seem relevant to our lives so we would all be able to grasp the concept as best as possible. She also made it very clear to us that she's available for us to meet with her if we ever have questions.

Janine makes sure the student knows what he/she is doing. Whenever I had a personal problem that prevented me from attending class she showed understanding and concern. She would allow me to make up what I missed, without seeming angry or frustrated.

Ms. Oshiro makes herself available at all times. Her scheduling meets my needs and she shows real concern for my grades and understanding of my assignments. Ms. Oshiro shows her concern in that she checks to be sure we get it or else she willingly and openly repeats herself. If she feels the work load is too much, she's so open to changes. (not forfeiting anythiing). Before we even start class, she gracefully asks the entire class "So how was your week?" With a great big smile she nods as if to say "good?"

She would take the time to ask how we are doing each and every class session we have. Also, she would take the time to ask any questions about any homework assignment we had the night before.

Her passion and encouraging questions and by understanding the pressure we are under and working with us at our pace.

She would take the time to send emails and speak with the students in class about concerns about the homework or what ever the case may be.

She extended some assignments to accommodate to students. She offers help to students out of class. When you go to her for help, she throughly aides you in understanding the material.

She has much concern for her students. Mrs. Oshiro is very involved with her students and wants to make sure that her class is going smoothly for her students and that we are understand what we are learning!

I liked everything about this calss. This is one of the few classes taht I make sure to show up to and I always make sure I finish all my work. I enjoyed janine for the past two semesters and look forward to taking her literature class.

In English there's no way to avoid reading or writinng. She made sure to let us have readings that were more about subjects we understood.

I like the way Janine taught this course because she made the experience fun. Not only would we read and write, we would also analyze and interpret stories and ideas. The materials needed came to good use, and I will continue to use them even after this class.

I liked how passionate she is about the material. It is her excitement that kept my attention in a subject that I have very little interest in. She is also very knowledgeable and upbeat which, i think, makes the students want to do well.

I liked the video but didn't like the process of the essays. It's too hard. Need to break each section down to and make it more clear for us to understand. I stuck in there for most of the class, but now two weeks left, thinking about dropping it and retake the class with another teacher. Too hard.

I liked her style of teaching. The way she uses the board and visual equipment adds to my learning. The only thing I didn't like was so much paper work. Nah! I know its for my good.

She always explained herself in many different ways she could, to explain the assignment. She also, went through a step by step process to build up ourselves. Finally, she showed examples of any assignment we had a question about.

Tough question...she is so awesome...she is like the Mary Poppins of the English Department...practically perfect in every way!!! ;-}

I liked that she handed out so many handouts and went over it.I loved our in class discussions,it made it more on hands.I liked that she always would take the time to explain if any worries.

It was challenging. I liked how she made the class write three different types of essays. We went over various types of writing styles. Some assignments were tough, but it was worth it in the end.

I really like how she understood us students. She explained things very very well and was always willing to explain things even more if someone didn't understand something. I liked that she was trying to save trees, but I also liked how she gave out rubrics for pretty much every assignment. They really came in handy when I wasn't in class.

She is very involved in her students and she strives for us to do our best.

I liked how we as a class were able to talk about every assignment, and every topic, and were able to give feed back on what we were discussing.

i liked the things she taught and papers we wrote because it was very helpful in learning how to write different types essays and i didn't realize their was actualy a difference.

She was very easy to talk to, always bright eyed and bushy tailed, something you dont get out of your english teachers.

She gave us a list of things that we are encouraged to know by the end of the year.

Her attitude towards teaching students were positive and inspiring. Her knowledge of the English Language and writing will definitely prepare students for further advanced college classes.

She made class interesting with the different group activities. They were very interactive.

Janine's tone on how she spoke while in class her warmth that she brings to the class made learning more enjoyable for me as a non traditional student.

I'm not a fan of peer review because it doesn't help. Most don't know enough on writing to take their advice seriously. I think I'm more harder on myself, so only I know what to improve on.

It was fine just the way it was. She was friendly and was very approachable.

I really enjoyed having her as a teacher. She brought up a lot of topics that allowed our class to have discussions. Though I didn't agree with everyone's views, I feel as though it was good to hear the opposition or others' opinion about topics. I also appreciated the systematic process we went through with writing our essays.

She seems to truly ENJOY her work. It gives her a great sense of accomplishment by seeing us improve and find new interests in writing.

When it came to a late assignment she was flexible and understanding. Took the effoort to meet individual needs. she went out of her way assist.

She is always offering to help students, such as myself, after the class period. She always goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands the subject. She is always has one-on-one time with students.

Janine makes time for her students out of class. She also a great teacher that help students to understand better.

By the fact the if one student is falling her class, she than will have a meeting with him/her to see what problems they have or if they have hard time understanding the way she talks.

If a student is struggling she manages to help that students. She's very nice and a awesome English teacher. The other English teacher i had for English 97B i didn't learn much! I feel so uncomfortable and i felt the teacher that i had for English 97B last semester didn't really care about the students. I'm glad that i had Janine Oshiro as my English 97B teacher.

Janine always found time to answer everyone's questions, if it were through email, telephone, at her office, in trio, she got back to us in a timely manner. She would go over things with me at a level I would understand, without all the fancy jargen.

Very organized with class schedule and due dates

I liked how she always tried to make everyone talk in the class discussion. Even when you don't want to talk, you tend to find yourself joining in anyway.

I didn't find any dislikes. I actually enjoyed the course because it benefitted me in my writing and communication skills.

I liked they way in which we slowly progressed in writing our essays. We began by doing something small and adding on to it until a long and well prepared essay was completed. Also, I enjoyed the in class discussions.

I liked how everything was discussed in class and it wasnt just her talking. getting opinions from other people made it easier for me to learn.

I like everything about her because she knows how to teach and she knows this subject so well that this is my second time taking this class.

She allows more than one chance, it may not always be the best to give the advantage of turing something in late; however, it is definitely needed for some who just can't keep up the same pace as everyone else.

I loved it! I think Janine is one of the best teachers I ever had. I found her passion for her job encouraged me to do better in my work.

I liked the feel in the classroom. It was easy to ask for help when needed. I didnt really like how we had to do a lot of extra work before the essay. I felt like I had to rush writing my essay.

I felt the sharing of our papers in small groups didn't really help us with the papers and just took up class time that could be used for other things.

The one thing I don't care for is the constant need to have to share ones opinion. If it helps someone to get others' points of view they should be allowed, not everyone should have to. That needs to stop at some point. In any english class peer reviews are present; however, I feel that they should not always be mandatory. If a student would like the opinions of others, peer reviews are great for them. Some students don't feel it necessary to be judged by anyone other than the teacher. It helps some not all, it should be optional.

The instructor showed concern for the students by providing us feedback on our work that we had turned in. She would ask us questions or give us comments during class that would make us think more in depth. At the end of each class, she would remind us to meet with her after class if we had any questions or concerns with any of the material covered.

She was always available after class, always return messages on a timely basis, and always asked if we have any questions or need help. she always had times available for meetings. she was such an excellent instructor that my husband and I will be taking her class again next semester.

I have seen Janine show so much concern for all of her students. Taking time to make sure we all understand our work at hand, ensures our straight path to success. She is always availabe to help and is always willing. I wish all the teachers were as interested in the students success as Janine is. She is what inspires me to teach, and has showed me patience, understanding and how to express ourselves through writing. She is a great instructor and is truly a great example of a Leader. I hope one day I will be able to inspire students as Janine has inspired me to push forth and never give up.

All students need to make appointment to see her twice in semester. She answered my question by e-mail very quickly.

Janine always has a positive attitude and new things to do in class, which made coming to class fun. She didn't just teach by writing on the board; I enjoyed the movies she chose for certain lessons and the different topics we had to write about. The assignment we did at the beginning of class really helped me see how I was spending my time.
