10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Everything
Power points, sticking on schedule, tests and quizzes graded and returned promptly.
learning the material from this class
All the material learned helped me for my physics class, since the class combines trig and physics. I really learn more from when Prins gives examples during class of what's being taught and gives the students a chance to ask questions and really understand the material.
There was no book, so we had to listen and take good notes.
The real life applications. I really like the pictures included into the tests.
The teacher. He is an excellent instructor that has a very good grasp on the field and is able to translate his knowledge and teach us some of what he knows.
aspects of the spine and what is healthy for the back when moving was the most valuable
learning about the physics of the body
I liked that he is very knowledgeable of the material that he has taught in class. I liked that he took the time to make powerpoints for the class to help us study for the quizzes.
Dr. Prins' power points were very helpful in this course because they were simple yet effective in teaching us complex concepts.
Entire course. No required text was a benefit.
HOw to apply biomechanics to everyday life
the powerpoints and the worksheets
Learning every day examples of forces acting on the body, how the effectiveness of the body changes based on positioning and external forces as well as internal forces.
I really liked how Dr prins goes over each lecture at a good speed and explains things when the class has questions. Also the exams arnt easy however he teaches the subject so well that you know the concept or topic well
learning about movements of the body and the forces behind them
Learning the biomechanics of the body
They were all equally valuable.
I really enjoyed how Prins put emphasis on the application of knowledge. This is the way that I learn and retain information the best!
Applying real life examples to the concepts we learned.
All information is valuable
I think that the most valuable thing that I have learned in this class is the fundamentals of biomechanics that I can build on in future courses.
Real life examples, able to relate to the material and content.
the material that was taught was understandable and clear.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Nothing
Professor read from slides rather than elaborate. Did not elaborate, gave brief description, let out early. Rather have him explain things more thoroughly than get out early. I'm here to learn and understand as much as I can.
n/a
None. I always learn alot from Prins's class.

Equations about biomechanics weren't valuable for me because I won't use it for my future.
N/A
I wish we had a textbook to refer to because sometimes the slides weren't enough and his explanation is so specific that I feel a textbook would be great. But the class was fine without a textbook, and that's less money for me to spend.
N/A
I don't think that there was anything that I consider invaluable. Everything we learned was new to me and I feel that it is things that I should or need to know for future classes.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Explain concepts more thoroughly. Give information to deepen understanding of what is written in the power points.
more bonus points
Nothing. I like how he doesnt have a book and uses just the powerpoints as a study guide. All the material is direct and is easily learned. He is very helpful and is always open to questions and helping students.
n/a
Some actual visual aids might help for some of the bio-mechanical aspects.
nothing more can be done. this class is perfect
He has demonstrated very well that he knows the material and how to teach it to his students. I wouldn't change anything.
I think the way Dr. Prins taught the class was great and I wouldn't change anything about it.
N/a
I thought everything was okay, the tests are difficult but I wouldn't expect anything less from this class
Jan Prins teaches this course with high effectiveness as is
doesn't need to
Being more clear in teaching the equations and the concepts. I felt that there was too much content squeezed into the semester that although I tried really hard to keep up, it was difficult.
Not sure. He does a very good job as it is.
Nothing!
No need for improvement
I think something that he can improve on is having a set schedule and sticking to because there are some days I don't know what's happening.
more group involvement

Nothing in this course needs to be improved. His teaching style has always been the same and it works. I learn well through the powerpoint and examples.

I think some visual aids would help. More word problems.
Maybe slow down a bit during lecture. Also be a little bit more clear during lectures
I wouldn't change anything about this course
N/A
Not much to improve on. Dr. Prins does a good job of explaining course material and fairly assessing student knowledge.
maybe just add assignments to the syllabus. i understand the class is based on exams and quizzes and we do have the chance to earn extra points. adding assignments could help us earn more points where we'd lose them in exams.
i don't think tha this course needs to be improved
Course could be improved by not incorporating as much info. I felt as if some concepts were rushed
Perfect the way it is.
Nothing, this is a great class.
No need for improvement
I don't think there is anything that can make the course better. I have learned a lot and I appreciate everything I've learned in this class.

Jan Prins should be used by grad students to learn how to teach. Before the teach they should have to sit through his class and see how he teaches and learn to adapt how he teaches to their style and personalities. To many of the grad students rely on the books or power-points. Anyone can read a power-point, but to have a power-point that is yours and you can actually explain it and teach from it is a whole different way of instructing
Thank you for everything!!! :)
I appreciate that there was no required text for this class.

Very informative and detailed PowerPoints that helped me to grasp all the concepts much easier than just reading the text
Learning which muscles in the leg perform which movements
Learning about all the clinical applications of this course.
The criteria he taught were valuable because I will need it for my career
Dr. Prins does a great job in answering our questions while showing us examples which really help.He is easy to approach and knows a great deal on the subject.
EVERYTHING!
A lot of information in regards to PT and real world application
The application to everyday bodily movements.
Pretty much everything that we learned/were taught was very valuable. We are going to need to know everything for our future classes, as well as professions.
making up notes for the test was helpful as it was a learning process.
practice exams posted on laulima
Complete memorization of the material, will be useful in my future career.
All aspects of this course were very valuable towards my major. I loved the way we learned about the muscles and bones and how we had to think critically on all of our exams .
Dr. Prins extensive knowledge of all the material covered in this course.
I think that the labs were really helpful
His knowledge
everything
The cheat sheets for the exams. Too much information for just a six week course.
I like that we had muscle tests. Even though it is hard it definitely helped me learn the muscles more effectively than any other class.
Creating a 5 page cheat sheet
learning what the muscles do in every part of the body. It made me realize what a complex system out bodies are
Dr. Prins pointed out how the info was related to our majors and our personal lives
The lectures and slides were definitely most helpful. Quizes also pushed you to start learning the material early before the exam.

individual lab time was least valuable - should be either class lab or guided lab with worksheet to fill out that will be completed and handed in for points. individual learning of things like that is superbly hard and not worth it to the student. There is no motivation for it, not even extrinsic.
lab review sessions prior to exams

Maybe explaining the concepts in a way that's easier to grasp, such as through more real life examples
None
nothing.
More interactions and labs
The lectures at times can get boring. Maybe spice it up with more jokes.
HARD PART IS QUIZZES
Everything went smoothly and he taught everything pretty well so as far as improvements go, I have no suggestions.
-- snipped --
More interactive learning
Already a sturdy and challenging course, maybe have more involvement with the class, but since it was a summer session it was alot of material to go through so there wasnt much time for anything fun.
I think that Dr. Prins is doing a terrific job teaching the course. I do not believe that he needs to make any changes to the way that he teaches this course.
Assigning homework to supplement the lecture
When showing examples of the body, make sure that everyone can see what is being done.
don't change anything
Felt rushed, but it's understandable since the course is so short in the summer.
I didn't like the quizzes because they were really hard and I had a hard time memorizing all the material. It was hard for me to figure out what information was going to be on the test because there was so much.
he can't, does a good job already
The exams were in my opinion very challenging. Without a curve it is quite hard to get an A
N/A
he can slow down during the lectures, it seemed it was a bit to fast and slowing down would have been better.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
It could be improved through more explanation and real life examples so that we can grasp the concepts easily. Assigning homework and including that In the grade could keep students on track as well
Couldn't be improved. I liked how he allowed us to use notes for exams since the content was condensed into such a short period of time.
I feel this course covers everything that needs to be covered. I learned more than I expected. Nothing needs to change.
The class can more in depth of certain topics and less in others less related
Maybe using real models or a chance to visit real models can give us a better understanding of anatomy.
I think extending the course by a couple of weeks would be a lot better. Some other courses are offered for an extended 2 weeks (I believe) and I think this course, since there's so much content to learn, would be a good one to have extended.
tone down information of course. only go over the biggest concepts and information with an introductory course like this. more advanced courses can give more in depth information.
n/a
N/A
More time, longer classes, more homework.
I feel like this class can be improved with more lab activities with lab partners. This give the students a chance to teach each other, which i feel like can greatly improve the learning of the material in this class.
don't, change, anything
Maybe focus on what is really important since the course was packed into 6 weeks rather than trying to cover everything and not going into much depth.
Less information would be helpful for quizzes and test.
Some of the pictures for the lab portion of the exams could be better quality. There could be more real life examples of how the muscles in our bodies are being used
More opportunity to raise your grade such as writing assignments, extra credit, or other means of showing your knowledge and understanding of the course other than pure memorization. Some students do not perform best under these exam styles
Being that we learned all the muscles and bones in the body in 6 weeks, I think he's done a good job in organizing this class to fit the allotted time.
Just slow down during the lectures. Also give us students the slideshows that you are presenting.

Great course!
Overall, it is a good class
Dr. Prins is a well known instructor in the KRS department. I have heard nothing but good things about him my entire time at UH. He is a great professor and I learned a lot in this course. I look forward to taking other classes with him.
I feel that as a student out of the four years that I have attend UH Manoa , I have learned the most from Dr. Prins. He is very knowledgeable and makes us think critically. He applies everyday situations and prepares us for other courses such as biomechanics etc. Also I feel that he is very very valuable asset to the staff here at the university.
I would have like the A/C on. :D
loved the class. hope I get an A
His humor cracks me up & his stories are awesome.
great teacher, i learned a lot!

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
having a class that focuses solely on the muscles and the skeletal system was valuable.
Dr. Prins... He's an amazing teacher and I wish he taught more classes. Hard class, but at least it made sense compared to must teachers who teach you one thing and test you on another...
The most valuable aspects were definitely the open labs, practice exams, concise lecture slides, and helpful examples given by Dr. Prins. Even the weekly quizzes were helpful in getting the material to stick in my mind.
Great in-depth review of muscles of the body and their relations to each other as well as body movements.
The lectures
spending an hour each day going over material
The material itself is most valuable, and the organization of the lectures made studying and comprehending that material really easy. The quizzes were especially helpful because it made me study throughout the course and not just prior to an exam.
Labs and teaching of experience with certain cases can help paint a picture and better understanding of the topic.
Clinical correlations, real-life stories (whether heard or from experience), and pictures (some graphic) were most valuable. The DVD shown in the last class was amazing, and definitely an eye-opener.
I believe that everything that was taught in this course was valuable.
Dr. Prins uses a lot of life experiences to demonstrate and explain concepts in class, and has much compassion for his field of study. He is a great teacher and you can learn valuable information, granted you go to class every day. Quizzes every other week or so keep you on your toes and help for the comprehensive test which can be a bit difficult if attempted unprepared.
The simplicity in the way that material was presented was probably one of the most valuable aspects of this course. All of the material was straight forward and we were never overloaded with too much information that we did not need to know. Each time material was presented Dr. Prins would be very clear on what we needed to know for exams and quizzes.
The lecture power points were most valuable and well explained during lecture
The information supplied to us was extremely useful and will be extremely useful in continuing my KRS education and pursuing my degree.
Learning to memorize the material was very challenging as well being able to demonstrate having learned it. This I feel is very valuable because it helps me to learn the material better and will help me more in the long run.
I learned a lot of anatomy in this course that could help me to pursue my career as a physical therapist.
The in class lectures.
studying for quizes and exams. spending at least an hour a day reviewing the material
going to class everyday and taking notes of the lecture
The subject itself and also the lab portions, being able to identify the muscles, via their actions and origins etc.
Learning about A LOT of muscles and bones.
the knowledge that dr. prins demonstratedin this subject.
all aspects were valuable, especially the lab parts
I liked that there is no curve. We are graded on what we know. I also like his policy on phones and food/drink in class. I find it distracting and disrespectful and I appreciate his interest in our learning experience.
all the material was very good. the professor made it very clear from the beginning what he expected from us. he expected you to be discipline. lectures were very interesting
Learning all the muscles
the connection of muscle movements to real life situations such as sports.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
skipping over explaining parts of the powerpoint in the presentation. i would rather stay the entire class period and go over the powerpoint in greater detail. some students learn better when the professor explains it, not just by studying powerpoints and reading the book.
Telling us there's a quiz on Thursday when it's already Tuesday... Sometimes he would change his mind last minute about what the quiz would be on.... However, he seemed far with the quiz strength
There really wasn't anything that did not help me in this course.
Everything taught was good knowledge for any future in healthcare related fields.
I thought his tone of voice to be distracting sometimes
quiz every thursday
I honestly thought everything was relevant and valuable to some degree.
Some advanced biomechanical references that are to be covered in a future class confused me, but interested me at the same time.
Everything was valuable
None
I did not think that any aspects of the course were least valuable. I think all aspects were important for learning the material and being successful in this course.
The lab was effective but only what you took out of it.
Everything was great!
I didn't read the text very much. I used the book for the images, but didn't read the chapters.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
explain more of the topics/concepts in the powerpoints. it may seem simple, but for some people, its confusing. If you could take the time to explain more things in the powerpoint during lecture, that could be beneficial to many students.
Potentially offer more opportunities for students to get together and study at the beginning of the quarter, it could help students figure out what exactly they need to be focusing on.
Speak louder. Road traffic noise and the swimming pool right outside the classroom made it difficult to hear the lectures sometimes.
Keeping grades up to date
make classe easier muiltple choice
I really don't know. I thought it was great.
Have the class follow along in the movements-it might help them gain a better perspective on what they're learning.
I think that the way he teaches is great and that it is very effective. He should continue teaching the way he currently does.
I liked the structure of this course and do not think that it needs to be improved in anyway because the material was presented very clearly and concisely.
The exams are challenging which is good but often I felt to much material was covered for each exam which prevented my from bing able to retain all the information needed to succeed in each exam.
I think it would be helpful if he maybe helped the students a little bit more on the lab part section of the course. Also clarify in more detail the specific naming of the material, such as a long sentence for an insertion of a muscle. Confusing at times on how to memorize how he wants us to write it.
Stay the same.
Use more class time? although I really enjoyed getting out early most of the time.
maybe half a page to one page of notes to use on exams
none
Everything subject was covered very well.
everything is fine
maybe have required homework assignments
I enjoyed his teaching style VERY much. I wouldn't change a thing....except being graded on spelling.
professor did good. maybe try to relate material to the different professional pathways we are trying to achieve. like for instance; relate muscles and injuries to different fields of study. muscles that are typically injured and rehabbed.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I don't believe this course can be improved.
Maybe Dr. Prins could give students different ways of grouping muscles. Location, action, and names possibly. Every student learns differently and sometimes the way taught in class was not how I learned them best.
Just keeping grades up to date with students
make it easier, expects so much
There is a lot of material covered in this class, and I did pretty well on the exams. The only thing is that everything from previous sections I have already forgotten. Not that I would want to add to exam materials or quizzes, but maybe extra credit assignments could be used to make us go over old material to keep it fresh.
Instructor could use laulima to upload grades so that students would know where they are standing throughout the entire semester.
At the end of the semester, you should show more of the DVD. You could also upload a spreadsheet with grades/points to keep students informed at all times about their current situation (using ID #s for secrecy).
N/A
To improve this course I think their should be some better way that students could be helped to better prepare for the exams. There is simply to much information to retain everything taught in lecture.
Better review of the exams would allow the students to learn which parts of the lab they missed. Knowing the right answer is one thing; however with a picture attached to the question it would be more beneficial in the learning process.
More use of models during lectures

I felt like I learned the most and could demonstrate that new material the best when I associated the names and actions via pictures. More exam/quiz questions like that would be great.

i can think of any ways that this course could be improved
we should have more lab classes
I would enjoy the neck and back muscles taught together. Slow down on the slides for those taking notes with pen and paper.
really good course.
Grades could be put on laulima to track progress.
30. Other comments:
i appreciate your approach and teaching attitude. your inclusion of stories, tidbits of experience allowed for connections with the material, and made concepts easier to understand and remember. I enjoyed having you as a teacher. I feel that your class was fair, your exams were fair, and that you were fair as a teacher. this is not said about many teachers.
I was terrified of this class at first, but it has become one of my favorite and most challenging classes. If it wasn't for the attitude Dr. Prins took towards this class I probably would have hated it. It's nice to have a professor who seems to genuinely enjoy his job.
Wonderful class! I was challenged, learned a lot, and had fun. Dr. Prins is a great instructor.
make class easier hardest class i ever had in my life
Great class!! Learned a lot, easy to understand material.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and Dr. Prins' way of teaching. Everything was very concise and it was all memorization, so your success in this class is all based on how much you repeatedly test yourself and put in the time to memorize the material.
great class, I learned a lot and was definitely challenged
I have never enjoyed a professor more than Dr. Jan Prins. Working with him in and out of the classroom has been a pleasure and i regret that i will not have any other courses with him. He explains the material very clearly and gives opportunities for you to improve yourself in and out of the class.
Great teacher, great class. Challenging but worth it. Really learned the material well.

learning about gait
The PowerPoint slides were very informative. The practice problems posted online were also really helpful. Extra credit is always positive.
directly related to what i want to do in life used what i learned earlier in the program
Prins teaching methods were fabulous & helpful to understand book material.
All were valuable because they tied into real life situations
all the concepts that we learned in this class were all valuable, Dr Prins made sure that everything that we learned was tied into the concept of biomechaics
The experience of Dr. Prins and his knowledge. He shows a lot of knowledge and is able to teach the material very effectively.
Dr. Prins has knowledge in this field rather than basic course knowledge.
incorporation of real life examples makes the material easier to understand
I really appreciate how prepared for class Dr. Prins is. He is experienced and knows so much information about his field. His presentation of lectures are very smooth and gives us time to ask questions. After exams, we would go over them as a class and after class he gives us time to come and receive more points if students felt they were marked wrongly.
Just learning the concepts of biomechanics that relate to our everyday lives was interesting.
lecture notes - PowerPoint
I really liked how Dr. Prins allowed us to talk to him after we take our quiz to argue our points on our quiz. It really allowed us to test how much we knew about the material. I also liked how he provided us with a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I believe the knowledge of knowing how your body works when just doing simple tasks were important. I also enjoyed how he relates the material to scenarios that are commonly known.
Practical application of physics to body movements.
applications to sport and health care
The applications within various sports of the material helped to understand it better and kept it interesting.
notes for exams
Quizes and exams
Its straightforward
Doctor Prins' explanations of many topics out of the book provided information in much further detail than his slides or sometimes even the book provided.
The connection made between physics and anatomy.
Learning the biomechanics to help athletes perform better
The power points were very insightful
Dr. Prins was able to explain concepts very well.

everything in the course is good
Maybe not be so early in the morning. There were times were there were hardly anyone in class. It is just very difficult for students to get up so early for a class, considering that they have other classes to worry about as well.
This course can be improved by splitting up the information. Too much too learn in a short amount of time is overwhelming.
I thought the class was ran very efficiently and wouldn't change anything about it.
rewording of some slides for easier comprehension.

Great professor!
The exams came straight from the material taught in class; so as long as students have good attendance and are engaged, they will do ok.
I like that every so often he tells us how many more points we are able to get from the quizzes and exams that are left to take. He tells us we can come up to him and ask how we're doing in class, how many more points we need to pass etc. If you feel you were marked wrongly on a quiz, he would explain to you why it was wrong, but if he sees why you were confused, he makes you explain why you wrote the answer and if it satisfies Dr. Prins question and he deems you have knowledge in the subject, he would give you credit. He treated all students fairly, showed absolutely no favoritism, and gave us all an equal opportunity to earn points.
I would recommend this course to someone who wants to take a biomechanics class.

Challenging course! Very interesting though and Dr. Prins makes it fun. Brush up on those math skills and look at those physics notes that are collecting dust cause you'll need them to take this course!

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The teacher telling us exactly what he wanted us to say about muscle origin and insertions
The knowledge of the course in general was very valuable and it all can be applied to everyday situations.
Professor Prins demonstrated his knowledge and made it relatable through personal stories to make the story stick. I felt that was the most valuable, as it can be difficult to remember such bulky information but through personal stories, memorization was not as difficult.
muscle groups
This course is JAM PACKED with information but all useful and needed for a kinesiology major
I thought going through each muscle and its components one by one helped out a lot. Study guides were also very helpful as well.
PowerPoints
The lab really helped when it came to studying for the exams. It was nice to see the models that would be used for the test.
Memorization techniques and learning good study habits.
Learning about movements of the muscles, taking quizzes that applied to our learning skills and having open labs to look at the models and apply our knowledge.
Everything
this class is the base of knowledge needed for KRS and Dr. Prins presents the information in a mannor that is effect to learning the material.

learning the required information for future classes.
lectures were very helpful as well as the power points
learning about the muscles of the body
Professor Prins teaching style made it very easy to understand which helped a lot to remember what I was thought.
Dr Prins teaching methods allowed me to learn at my best capability. all the material covered was easily learnable and the curriculum was challenging as well
every aspect of the course was valuable, enjoyable anatomy/structural kinesiology class.
The most valuable aspects of this course were the side stories that made the material easier to relate to. The examples whether they were experienced by the professor or another person made the topics covered interesting and fun to learn.

The lab time.
Understanding how course concepts would relate to real life situations.
professors ability to convoy his knowledge and the course material to the students
All of it since it all pertains to my major.
Explanation of lecture slides and letting us know exactly what he expected from the class.
Lab portion of exam
Knowing what was expected of us was valuable. He was clear on what we needed to study we had all the tools and having the book helped. If you studied his lectures and the book you definitely would do well
He was very in depth and very knowledgeable which helped me and other students stay motivated and learn the material, and all of this information all of us can use later.
I felt that the overall material was very important because we learned about the different muscles, bones, and their functions which is a very helpful because this is a good preparation for me since I want to become a physical therapist someday.

make sure the ppt are up ahead of time
overall I feel that Jan Prins has been doing an excellent job in teaching this course. He is a great teacher.
I think he is very well set and prepared for the course. I don't think nothing can/should be changed to make it better since it is already pretty organized and set.
He is a little hard to understand sometimes and talks a little fast
I would suggest that for at least some of the muscles, it would've helped if during the lecture he could use the models to show where they are exactly.
Don't assign the book since most of the slides are on the exam and the book doesn't say the same things sometimes.
Maybe give out homework assignments that would count towards our final grade to help boost it up.
Go slower through harder lectures.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I think this course is great as is.
It's not really for the course, but students should show respect by showing up to class. JPrins knows his information and wants to share everything he knows about the human body's muscles and bones and how it works. Like he said, "you should be fired up about your body" and should be more inclined to show up to learn about your body and how it works!
no comment. fair course
This course is a lot of information crammed into one semester. The exams are a little difficult because there is so much material
I would have more videos to give a visual function of how each muscle works and so forth.
The course was very helpful and fun to learn about. Nothing to really improve.
There's nothing. It's a very good course to prepare you in the future.
More supplemental material?
organize information better so that it is more understandable to students.

Well I think this course has very little improvement. He does so well in organizing his slides, making them understandable and clear, and he makes learning all the anatomy about the human body fun. He teaches a very awesome class.
upload all lectures at the beginning of the semester
Nothing. The material is just very hard and you have to study hard to get a good grade.
We did not use the textbook very much, and there were things in the text book that Prins said were wrong or not correct. The book was a waste of money.
I really dont think it can be improved, i think its taught at the perfect level. It definitely isnʻt a class that you can slack around in and it really tests your knowledge of the material.
None
I think that a curve would be very helpful, because this class is very hard and there is a lot of material. I also think that this class could be more interactive. We should have more lab days and be able to play with the models during lectures so we could get a better perspective of where they are and how they work.

Jan Prins is a great teacher and person.
He is very organized and very prepared for class. He knows his field and if you are not understanding he would gladly explain to you. He is always very quick to respond when you email him. He gives you an update on where you stand in the course and how many points you need to reach a certain grade. I would highly recommend JPrins to my other classmates. It's pretty straight forward, you do your work you get your grade you deserve.

I would suggest Professor Prins to any student that wants to learn about bones and muscles.
great stuff
If coffee is not allowed, please allow water in acceptable containers. Class was early, which made it difficult to concentrate while dehydrated.
I think this is definitely a great course, but it will be a challenging course for those who arenʻt great at memorization. It will take a great deal of time and practice to remember all the structures and their spelling. I think it would be a bit easier for someone who is good at memorization, but overall a great course.

This class was very informative and Dr. Prins was a good professor. Even know this class was hard, Dr. Prins really knows his stuff and he made it easier for us with his power points. They were pretty straight forward and there were a lot of images which were extremely helpful.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The discussion of practical application of the knowledge that was obtained throughout the course.
..
prins is able to present examples that back up his points. He does so by either showing a video that explains the lecture or by acting it out himself. Both are effective forms of teaching.
The lecture and actually listening to what Dr. Prins was teaching us was most valuable. You'll learn how to apply what you learn to sports and other aspects of movement in daily life.
Biomechanics
NA
The insight given by Dr. Prins on real life scenarios truly helped the class understand the content in a real world application setting.
It's hard to pinpoint. The whole topic of Sports Biomechanics is valuable. I'm very much happy with the course outline, stucture and content that Dr. Prins layed out.
The lectures
The powerpoints.
The knowledge that you get from this class is the met valueble.
The practical and clinical applications of the course material.
Applying mathematical calculations to actual anatomy and daily things we do
Basically everything about the biomechanics of the human body. I first came into this class without knowing nothing about the movements of the human body but after taking this semester, Professor Prins enlightened me so much about the biomechanics of the human body. With this knowledge, I will use this as a guide to succeeding my career pathway as a Physical Therapist.
The lectures were priceless! DR. Prins is very well spoken in biomechanics and does an exceptional job articulating ideas and concepts through the use of power points and lectures. The stories of Dr. Prins told were filled with humor and lessons.
The lectures were very specific and to the point which were helpful study tools for exams and quizzes
This course really challenged me but overall has been one of my favorites
The applicable information
Dr. Prins' PowerPoints were awesome, very detailed and clear. His overall enthusiasm about the course in all his classes is such a huge benefit for his student to have.
Lectures went over exactly what we needed to know for quizzes and tests.
The lectures were highly valueble to me. I thought Dr. Prins made me actively think about the material presented during lecture. There was the oppurtunity for questions/clarifications and discussions during lecture, which I valued a lot. Also the information was presented related to practical real life things, which helped with the better understanding.
The real-life applications.
Dr. Prins is extremely knowledgable about this subject that he makes this class so enjoyable.
The labs that we went to taught us how the information we learned is applied in life.
I really enjoyed Dr. Prins way of teaching. I liked how he used personal stories and examples to allow us to gain a better understanding of the concepts. I also enjoyed that he spent the time to review the homework worksheets in class.
The quizzes each week.
It helped being able to use cheat sheets for the first test. It would be near impossible to do well on that test if we were not allowed to use cheat sheets. A lot of real life examples were of great value in order to understand the material well.
Dr. Prins does a great job of giving students real life applications of ideas introduced in class. It is much easier to learn something if you understand how that idea is applied in real life.
The aspects that were most valuable were comparing all the terminology and scenarios into sports situations. it was easy to imagine and understand the material when it was put into another context.
I felt that all the information taught was valuable because it can be used in my field of study as well as in my everyday life.
Being able to learn the physics and how the human body functions was the most valuable aspect in this course. This class made it very useful for my future career and everyday life.
For me I learned a lot about from the lectures about running on tracks, grass, and artificial turf.
Gait cycle, trigonometry, physics,
This course was extremely informative and I learned alot of information throughout its duration. I loved how Dr. Prins went through and explained thorougly every single powerpoint, and he gave visual and demonstrative examples.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

I don't know if there was a least valuable aspect of the course. Dr. Prins' has the lesson plan for the day and for the year mapped out and we stay on schedule 99% of the time. He manages his time well during class and also manages the overall semester quite well.
none
The lecture/reviews for calculations of the trig problems were least valueble for me. This was probably hihgly valuebale for people with basic math understanding.
Can't think if any.
Certain information that wasn't taught from the presentation slides were not necessary for the class.
I found everything from his class very valuable.
only using slides as course learning.
It would be difficult at times to keep up with the pace of the class because we would zip through the slides at a fast pace. A great deal of dedication was needed in our part for us to do well on the quizes because just coming to class was not enough to understand the material.
I'd leave Dr. Prins class the way it is. You do a good job staying up to date and use good judgement in how you tweak each class.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Possibly give more real life examples of the concepts that he discusses.
Exam questions are worded vaguely and specific answers are expected.
Honestly Prins is one of the most versatile professors I have ever had as he has taught about four of my classes now. He cuts the fat on lectures and highlights main points. He provides many forms of teaching a lesson through quizzes, projects, HW assignments, exams and extra credit. i appreciate the extra credit because I study for all his test and quizzes with great effort but over look certain points at times. The extra credit allows room for error as we are all human and need a break once in awhile.
Dr. Prins could improve this course by going over the absolutely most important info that we need to know. Although he did go over everything that we needed to know for his tests, it would be nice to focus on the most important information so that everyone fully understands the info.
I have no suggestions for improvement because Dr. Prins is by far one of the best, if not the best instructor because I have learned so much from him.

There are too many slides and some of them were hard to understand the concepts.
Less powerpoint lectures and more practical lectures to supplement the material learned
Nothing I can think of. There is a lot of content to digest but he got the class through it in the smoothest fashion.
Honestly, there really is nothing Professor Prins have to improve his teachings of this course. Just that sometimes, he goes over his materials a little too fast.
More time on quizzes. If I had five minutes or so more on each quiz I believe I could have did better with more time to think things through.

This is a question I have to answer semester after semester concerning Dr. Prins' class. Semester after semester i always say, nothing. He conveys the content to his students very well, his quizzes and exams are very passable if you attend class and study. He is a great professor and a great person and itâ??s a joy to be his student.
Keep doing what he does. He is the best teacher I have ever had.
Communicate more effectively about the quizzes, and the material/lectures that will be quizzed on. Sometimes this created some confusion.
Include animated visuals or video demonstrations in addition to pictures to describe concepts.
Maybe have more visuals in slides
Though it the student's responsibility to show up for class, mandatory attendance would further encourage students to attend each lecture.
I think Dr. Prins has teaching mastered. He is one of the best professors I have had throughout my college career. He is an extremely intelligent man who makes learning fun. Biomechanics is not an easy subject, but he finds a way to make it easier to understand.
It would help the students if he could slow down the pace of the class. More time for each question on the quizes wold also help. More jokes and crude humor would also make the class even more fun, although there already is a good amount.
As said above, I wouldn't change anything about the class. Dr. Prins shows good understanding and judgement in changing the class according to our specific needs.
Some of the material gets to be confusing, maybe slowing down so everyone can grasp the material better
I feel that Dr. Prins already has a great way of teaching the course content.
I would like it if we had more activities rather than sitting and discussing the functions of the human body.
Change the quiz format. Make it a hard copy format, and not power point style.
Nothing. HEs serious with a good sense of humor.
Dr. Jan Prins can improve the teaching of this course by giving students more time to study before a quiz. Sometimes we were notified only a day or two in advanced if extra chapters were added onto a quiz.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Nothing more than i have already said.
.
Needs cheaper books, Its a good thing that Prins has great Slides!
I think this course could be improved by having some type of weekly lab where the students try to apply the material that was taught during the week with real situations and interactions between the students. This may not be able to be applied with this course because there are only two classes a week and time is very limited, but I believe that it would help every student learn and understand the material a lot better.
I would've loved to see more of a hands on approach.

It's fine the way it is.

There is not much to be improved. Only the lecture types. Everything is okay
If there was a way to slow down on the content taught, that would be nice. I understand the teacher is responsible to get us through certain content, but at times there was so much info and so little time. Exams were pretty tough as there are a lot of pictures and explanations to write out. Some pictures or movements were not covered in class or the text book.
Nothing really needs to be improved. Professor Prins explains everything so well.
Lecture in a better classroom.
quizzes were ok, but sometimes there was a lot of content to cover for one quiz
Either shorten the quizes or allow for more time
The students have the power points so studying is there responsibility. Dr. Prins is a fair grader and also gives you the opportunity to convince him to get partial credit for wrong answers if you explain to him your reasoning and your reasoning is right. His lectures are interesting and he keeps them relevant to current events and sports. And when he tells jokes, they are hilarious just because you can see him enjoying himself and you cant help but laugh with him. Heâ??s a great person, great professor, and I was lucky to have him semester after semester. He is the best professor I have had at the University of Hawaii. Thank you Dr. Prins.
Dr. Prins could have given us more quizzes. He could give us more homework also just for more practice.
By including more material from the book.
Mention more of the biomechanics behind injuries.
Dr. Prins could remove the unnecessary slides from the presentations to avoid confusion.
Dr. Prins could possibly give us some more opportunities to practice mathematical problems, such as uploading more practice worksheets on laulima. Other than that, I have no other recommendations.
Labs that would physically show the class the concepts of biomechanics would help everyone get a good grasp on the material. It would also help the class as a whole interact with each other. There is a limited amount of days & time for this class so it may be a bit difficult to fit this in the course. Videos would also help, such as showing a sprinter run a 100m sprint while breaking down the runner's mechanics that allows him to maximize his performance.
Same as above. Its the teacher's class, Dr. Prins runs it his way but always keeps his students' best interests in mind.
I think this class could be improved by spending a little more time on the chapters. This is a great course but can be complex at times but with a little more time spent to fully understand the material
It could be improved by having a little more extra credit opportunities probably other than that it is a good course.
This course could improve by doing more hands on activities. I am a visual learner so demonstrating examples is a big plus for me.
The way quizzes are given was not conducive to my learning style. I felt rushed while doing the quizzes. Make quizzes a hard copy format, change the way it is currently done.
This course could be improved by having more class time to go over what is on the upcoming exams. It would benefit students for Dr. Prins to go over a few tougher concepts again before the test, or to hint to study these extra hard.
30. Other comments:
Keep it up! :)
.
This class is probably the hardest class taught by Dr. Prins, and in order to do good in this class, keeping up with the weekly material is a must. If I had the time to take this class again, I would because the material is very interesting and knowing some of the material will put you at an advantage in some sports.
Tough course, but is worth it. I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge.

Great class!
Dr. Prins is a privilege to have as a professor. Hope I will run into him in the furture.
Thank you Dr. Prins for an excellent semester!
None.
It was hard for me to grasp the information. Sometimes the materials were being taught too fast. The teaching style is too vague, I had to refer or listen back to old lectures in order to get the concepts down. The details for each lecture were not fully explained. I feel that I did not learn much in this class. However, Dr. Prins had always been a good teacher and I know that he has full knowledge of his materials.

Nothing, great experience and hope to carry this knowledge obtained in the future.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. Easily one of my favorite professors and definitely one of the most valuable classes. Mahalo nui loa!
This is my third course with Dr. Prins and he is definitely, my favorite teacher I've had hear and UHM
Dr. Prins was the best teacher I have had while at UH Manoa.
Throughly enjoyed this course! Dr. Prins is an excellent professor and I would recommend taking him to anyone!
Share the book. I didn't use it much. Only as a reference when I didn't understand a topic.
I enjoy the courses I take from Dr. Prins. He shows a passion and strong knowledge for the subject material.
Dr. Prins is a wonderful professor! Keep up the awesome work!
This class was a challenge and I have definitely learned a lot. I am now always applying concepts from biomechanics to everyday activities, such as during my lifts at the gym.
Thank you for another great semester Dr. Prins.
Dr. Prins is very funny had stories he would tell the class that was related to the material. His stories made going to class worth it. His style of lecturing made class fun and more interesting. I rated this course good because it involves a lot of math which I am not good at.
Dr. Prins was an extremely challenging, yet educational teacher. I really appreciate all the knowledge I have learned in his class and really enjoyed the class.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The course was done at a fast pace so it was good to have the option to use our study guides on exams.
the quizes every other week really helped me to not slack off in this class.
The lectures and stories that accompanied those lectures really help better understand the course material.
the knowledge of where each of the muscles in the body are and their actions they are responsible for
Being allowed notes.
In-class lectures and labs provided a large amount on information included on powerpoint presentations and experiences from the instructor.
Good power points and well designed course
The amount of time in the lab we were given, as well as the depth of the power-points which we studied from
Dr. Prins gave us advice on how to take care of our bodies in a responsible way and making smart choices as well. His main objective was to make sure his students will learn more about musculoskeletal system in order to be prepared for the more challenging courses in the future.
I enjoyed that with the material that we were learning, Dr. Prins very often related the topics to clinically. It really helped me get a better understanding of "why" and "how."
having the power points grouped together makes the material easier to understand. notes were also a big bonus for the course.
I liked the fact that he had taught us new things about the human body but not only was he teaching us what the book was about, he also had given real life experiences and situations to intrigue me more into the class.
This class has a lot of information, but Dr Prins uses great real-life examples to make it easy to understand. We move at a fast pace (because it is summer), but he gives a lot of opportunities for bonus points- which is great!
I liked the real life experiences and examples for the material.
Every information is crucial for proceeding on academically in the KRS major.
the structural use of muscles
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Although labs are important to see what we are learning, I didn't think that it was necessary to have a class and half of time for just lab work.
Buying the text book.
The lab manual which I did not purchase.
none
Just the length of time of the course and how fast it was. Of course it cannot be helped.
The textbook is not completely necessary
As it was the summer, we had less time to study before each quiz and exam, but that comes with the accelerated nature of summer courses.
N/A
overall i thought the course was well organized and had the information in a well put put together manner.
I really think that this course is a very interesting class and could only be helpful to everyone in learning more about the body. Learning about how the human body is probably one of the most important things that you should know within your own lifetime. However I still do not believe that the P.E Majors should be required to take this class because even though that it would be seen that P.E teachers have more credibility now that we also take anatomy, I dont find it helpful in making them more effective educators.

I can't really say how he can improve the class. It takes a lot of study time and work to be prepared for the exams and quizzes. If you are a KRS major, be prepared to do some studying.

I realize that this is the summer course and time is very limited but if anything could be improved, maybe adding a little more hands-on lab stuff.
less slides, have regular semesters be treated the same as summer semesters
Considering this is a summer class, this course was taught very well
I don't believe this course needs to be improved. Just the students need to be prepared for a lot of information in a short period of time.
30. Other comments:
I appreciated the effeciency of this class. We learned a lot in the 6 weeks we had.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this class. I wished I could have taken it during the semester just so I could spend more time learning and asking questions from Dr. Prins. One of my favorite teachers thus far going into my senior year at UH. I only wish I could take 353 all over again just to hear the lectures and stories once again. A great class taught by an excellent professor! Dr. Prins has so much to offer UH and the KRS students and department. Thank you for the knowledge and standards set in class. Aloha!
Thank you for taking the time out of your summer to teach us! I really appreciate it! and also for the motivation for me to study harder because this class is not a breeze at all.
Dr. Prins was very knowledgable in this subject AND also knew how to TEACH the subject and keep the student's INTRIGUED in the material, which is one thing that I admire. Because some professors at UHM are very knowledgable about the subjects that they teach, however are unable to TEACH it and ENGAGE their students, keeping them wanting to learn more. I enjoyed taking this course even if their was limited time being that it was taught in the summer and not in the regular school session. I hope others will enjoy this course!
Great summer session!!!

His knowledge is what I valued most. If the content or information we were given was inaccurate he told us and told us why. He was able to back it up.
Weekly quizzes

giving the power points ahead of time and being able to take notes as he taught the material was really helpful.
Developing study habits.
I think the basic information is critical for a KRS major in order to succeed and comprehend other material
The powerpoints helped a lot to identify all the difficult and smaller muscles and boney land marks.
powerpoints
All of it was really good in my opinion
The personal/ life stories that he has told us while teaching related subjects helped me understand the material more.
The powerpoints were great and very informative and him posting past exams helped me get a feel of how the tests were going to be structured.
All
I enjoyed all of the detailed powerpoints and thorough review when going through them. Also, Dr. Prins was very open to any questions or concerns.
applications of concepts to everyday life/activities.
None-course needs major reconstruction
No comment except for the fact that it was a lot of information hat needed to be memorized and getting the. Information from Jan print was very hard to grasp and basically needed to learn moat of the information on your own. Very wordy powerpoint slides hat were just being read., which we as students could have done on our own. Not a very effective teaching technique. Very boring and hard to follow at such a quick pace.
everything
quizzes throughout to help know the material
Dr. Prins' thorough knowledge of the material, his ability to relay it to the students, and his class structure that forces one to learn the material.
having a better understanding of how the muscles in the body work. where they are, what their action, and functions are
Worksheets given prior to exam to help study material.
Drilling the origins and insertions of all muscles. Very useful information
Dr. Prins experience and adapting it to the course material
Learning the entire human anatomy of the Muscle, Skeletal and Nervous systems.
The practical applications
I liked how he provided us with lots of opportunities to come into the lab and look at models and ask for help.
Class lectures and powerpoints
The foundational knowledge of the anatomical structure. And of course some of his personal add-ins and biomechanic info.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
N/A
I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you anything. He was one of the best professors I've ever had. I loved his course and can't wait to have him again.
Sometimes he goes over the materials so fast, maybe go a little slower.
Let us know from a pool of picture which ones we need to know. There were a lot of muscles to memorize.
Sometimes He goes over the material a little too fast. But He allows us to record his lecture so that helps because if he was going took fast in one area you can re listen to the lecture and catch it the second time. Also he is always willing to go over it with you after class if you have any further questions. I wish that the student version & teacher version of the lecture power point presentations were more similar. Maybe more fill in the blank slides, to make sure the students are actually paying attention in class not just phasing out in class.
Improve powerpoints
i dont see anyway he can improve. Hes a great teacher and has my deepest respect.
have a different classroom, too noisy and hot next to the swimming pool
He doesn't use laulima which i think would have made tracking grades much easier.
Don't read off powerpoint. Try to have hands on learning when trying to have students understand the material. Instead of just showing us why a certain thing happens this way have students experience on their own. Ask them to stand up and try it themselves.
I think there is little he could do to improve the course, its very good as is.
Have study guides other than previous exams
Clearer tests
Needs major reconstruction-new teaching styles, instructor, everything about the course needs improvement-testes only on memory
Creativity of teaching lessons so that students are more engaged and interested in learning he material instead of him reading each slide which we as students can do on our own. Maybe a better teaching approach or strategy to help students that are different types of Learners. Maybe more visuals and or hands on type of learning would help the students be more engaged in the subject.
It would be nice if he physically pointed out the origin and insertions on the muscle diagrams. Powerpoints were too long too much material to memorize
Having a broad mind set when it comes to expelling and grading ideas from the students.
I wouldn't know
I didn't see anything wrong with his teaching methods. Everything he said about the material was straight forward.
Perhaps use more videos to make material relevant to outside the class or to simply aid the retaining of the information. Slightly longer breaks. Perhaps some classes include a little bit of lab instruction.
More organized lecture slides.
hands on lessons
More labs and examples. Powerpoints are harder to learn from than say movements of the muscles involved
Have less lecture type of classes and more hands on learning to help the students that dont really learn well by just listening.
Tell more life stories about injuries
Maybe limiting the amount of slides in each powerpoint to the one's that are actually stressed for the clas.

27. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
It was fine the way it was.
The course itself is a great course. Only suggestion is to provide more labs throughout the semester so exam times won't be the first time we get to see the muscles on the props. It'll give us a better understanding of how it looks like so we can be more familiar with it when it's time to study.
By filling out the powerpoints in detail so we can refer back to them before exams.
The course needs more sections. But Dr. Prins is an amazing instructor and cares for his students so much.
Try to even out the exams. The first two exams were jammed pack with information. The last exam was kind of small. Try to even it out where the amount of info was all the same. It encourage students to do better next exams
none.
Have less chapters crammed into one section for the exam
Course needs major reconstruction I wasted time and my money
Ulilization of different teaching methods could be used to enhanceearnin for students. Not so much wordy texts on pkwerpoints.
less material to cover each chapter
It was good overall
It can't.
The only improvement that would maybe help other students that take the class , would be more labs. I think if the students were to get a more hand on experience it would be easier for them to memorize the material
Organize the notes and the lecture slides more so students can follow along more easily. Slow down on lectures.
make the exams multiple choice instead of writing out the answer, there's just way too much material to be covered on an exam to remember it all.
I would suggest doing labs after each section. Practical applications would be nice like a clinic for lab.
Spread out the material more for each exam. Material for each exam was a little overwhelming at times.
This class doesn't need to be improved. Its good enough as it is.
The only concern was the amount of slides that were put in each presentation. This caused him to go through them really quickly.

Very nice professor. Knows his materials well. Provides many personal stories to help the class remember the material.
i enjoyed having prins as a teacher
Make it more interesting. Not so much lecture. Try lab groups on muscle material.
Wonderful class, looking forward to having Dr. Prins in 463.
Prins is a bad instructor/educator, not close to being an doctor, he needs to get out of the business, weak/bad structure of course, needs major reconstruction

the powerpoint lectures
The understanding of applying concepts of motion in real settings
This course is great overall. I learned a lot and Dr. Prins makes everything very straight forward. It can take some work but you will also learn a lot if you put in the effort.
real life examples
I valued the challenge he presents in all quizzes and exams.
Powerpoints and slide lectures. Those helped the best. I enjoyed the fact that we could use notes during our exam to help us remember and recall certain information. VERY helpful.

Everything in this course was important!
I felt that this was a very valuable course because it taught us the foundations and prinicples of biomechanics which we can use in our daily life.
I feel that the most valuable aspect of the course was that it challenged me intellectually.
I really enjoyed the application aspect of the course. Many of the principles and concepts we learned can be applied to everyday life which makes it a lot easier to understand.
Dr. Prins' teaching methods were what helped me to understand the biomechanics field. I didn't have much background in trig and the math side but i learned a lot from this class.
Everything
the application of physics to the human body
The power presentations and lectures were very clear and extremely helpful to have prior to sitting in class.
The tests were not multiple choice! It allows you to get partial credit on test and actually show/explain your knowledge in a certain area. Dr. Prins doesn't treat students like they're dumb.
Relearning physics since I will need this in grad school.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
More hands on activities and labs to motivate students.
overall course was taught well.
Slow down on the math
I like this course the way it is.
Quizzes were a little too difficult. Studied the same amount for some as an exam.
HE could elaborate more on the formulas and equations that he presents on the powerpoint. And sometimes he talks about an aspect of the course during class real briefly and doesnt include it on the powerpoint so we cant learn and grasp it further at home if we dont understand it during class and that works against us when he makes a quiz or exam question worth 5 points about that brief topic that we are expected to learn thoroughly about.
Continue to keep the students aware of the upcoming grades and being flexible with the exam dates. That was a real benefit for me because I didn't have to cram in studying for all of my final exams this semester. I also liked the idea that we had the liberty of using a couple sheets of notes for our exams.
not have morning classes as early as 730am!!! that is tooooo early and hard to be focused to learn heavy content for this course.

nothing comes to mind
Possibly make the tests slightly easier or provide a review sheet for each so that the students a little better understanding of what exactly they needed to study.
Teach more classes! I love Prins and many teachers can learn a lot form his teaching style. Teachers like Kimura, Hetzler, Cleary, etc. do not prepare you for tests as thoroughly as Dr. Prins, they do not show the passion that he does for the subject and all seem like they are teaching to pay the bills and they would rather not be there at all. Prins is an outstanding teacher that deserves some sort of award.
Sometimes when I had questions after class, he didn't have much time to explain them all to me. He did some, but always had to rush off and asked that I get the info from classmates.

27. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
As stated previously it would be nice to have some hands on labs, where students were challenged to apply what they had learned to a real life scenario.
i felt the structure of the course was appropriate
Better examples and easier quizzes
My only complaint about this course is that it was at 7:30 in thew morning. However, that is only true every other semester.
Sometimes class had too much lecturing. maybe have students perform little activities in which can get the students a little more awake, especially at 730 in the morning. Great lecture nonetheless though
for me he could have been a bit more fair with answers and grading. i know for a fact i would put an answer very similar to what my friends put but i would get it wrong and he would get it right. and when i go to complain and argue my case his standings are very absolute but i dont wanna bring my friend into this cause he might mark his answer wrong to prove a point. i just think he picks favorites. not fair
This class does not need much improvement. I feel like it gave me an opportunity to understand the basics of biomechanics. I hope I can get a better understanding of it as I continue my studies. Dr. Prins encouraged us enough to understand the material and take it into our own brains and work with what he has provided for us.
not have early morning classes. especially with this generation, the focuse level is difficult to uphold early in the morning.

8. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Learning about the clinical and real life application of the course content during lectures was most valuable for me because not only did it help me remember the material, it also gave me a glimpse of what I may encounter in my future career.
The powerpoints
The muscular and bone structures for the human body and its relationships with exercise.
The different knowledge relevance to outside in the real world.
Prins is extremely knowledgeable and I felt that I learned so much from this course. I loved that he gave several opportunities to achieve the grades we all wanted. Also the practice tests and open labs helped me learn.
lectures were very thorough and the instructor was helpful when I did not understand something
Labs before exams were a great review
The use of models were helpful..I wish he had answered questions a lot more... He seemed to rush all the courses ..it was a good course however I wish it would be more understandable.
They information that the instructor gave out were very understandable and detailed
Lectures with slides that had pictures.
his powerpoints and how he conducted his lectures.
Physical training
The teacher was knowledgable
The application of how the muscles of the body are used in everyday life. Knowing where muscles are in relation to the body and what movements they control were most valuable.
Powerpoint presentations were clear and informative. Quizzes were relavent to the material presented. Open lab and use of models were very beneficial.
Dr.Prins is a great teacher and knows what he is talking about and explains things in the simplest way and gives examples to help understand. Tough content that he tries to be as helpful as possible with.
i liked his unique but straight-forward teaching style especially with the amount of content that needed to be covered.
His lectures and how he was able to make most of what he taught seem easy to pick up and learn.
learning and reinforcing the origins, insertions and actions of every muscle.
His ability to apply the material in real life situations made it easier to understand course content.
everything was valuable
Every other anatomy class I have been in just tells you the O, I, A. I like this one because Dr. Prins takes his time and goes into detail about the O, I, A. When I read a book and it says something like, "assists in dorsiflexion" I wonder why... Dr. Prins answered those kind of questions. This helped me understand my anatomy as a whole picture.
I enjoyed learning all of the muscles.
The depth and wealth of knowledge that Professor Prins has made the course an extremely beneficial learning experience. He knows the material extremely well and has a good personality and mindset that sets a good environment for the course.
I felt that the quizzes helped me the most because it allows the student to study and have to know many of the questions that will also be on the exam.
the power points were
the structure and schedule of the lectures
His lectures and slides were most valuable. They were very thorough and clear.
His personal relations to the material, He connected each part of the course with a story from experience.
9. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Although the labs were beneficial in helping me to understand and know the course content, I believe that having had more time to go through it with the Professor there would have been a lot more beneficial to my learning.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
The organization of the powerpoint slide could be improved upon as there were sometimes duplicates and I was hesitant to print the slides because there were so many which could have be condensed. I spent a good amount of time condensing the slides so that I could print them. However, this may have been helpful in helping me to go over the notes again and study them. Also, having more lab time with the professor present would have been helpful.

Make the homework apply more to the material, other than that, this class was one of my favorites.
good as is
Everything seems fine but maybe a little more review on the models
Does everything well
by maybe making homework due every once in a while
na good class. students just need to be motivated to do well.
I felt he could have been more lenient about extra credit but at the same time he gave a good amount of it.
Make powerpoints a little more clear and only show some of the slides once
Perhaps showing us more extra-curricular activities that allow us to see the application of what we learn in the class.
I think a cumulative final will help students to retain knowledge from material learned throughout the semester. I think using most of class time to finish powerpoint material will allow Dr. Prins to add and teach more material to his students.

Nothing. He's great
nothing he does a fine job.
There are always unforeseeable obstacles that come throughout a semester, but I'd say the hardest part about this class was trying to follow the schedule when sometimes it was not on track. Dr. Prins did a good job going over the schedule in class when things changed though.

The course is great the way it is.
Possibly less powerpoint slides or going more slowly through the powerpoints, sometimes it was very hard to take any notes because lectures went so fast.
the only thing for me would be better descriptions for the test questions.

I think the quizzes could be more specific or more focused on one general topic. I found it difficult to study the right material for the quizzes cause there was so much covered.
He could have more Lab sessions with hands-on real life situations.

The course is an early class and this course is offered at a later time the following semester but I feel that there should be another section for this course. I know that Professor Prins has other classes he teaches but I just feel that this course would greatly benefit the KRS student a lot more if there were two sections of this course.
Going over some of the more important material more slowly would be my only suggestion. At times the pace was very fast and difficult to keep up with.
like i said before just the test questions otherwise there is nothing i think he need to improve
The quizzes were what I found most difficult like I said. They are what is holding me down for getting a better grade.

I think it would be nice if we were given credit for doing the study guide that way it would force us to do it, ultimately helping us do better on the exams and a few extra maybe "bonus points" if we show that it is completed to offset those few mistakes here and there.

8. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The lectures
The teacher ask the students a lot of questions, which forces us to think logically about concepts.
I liked how this course was composed of many different aspects, like physics, math, and anatomy. I think Professor Prins did a good job on effectively communicating the many different components of the course and putting them all together and making it easy for the students to understand. Initially I thought that this class was extremely difficult, but because Professor Prins is such a good teacher and communicator, I quickly caught on. I also liked how we learned about things in our everyday lives. I feel like I definitely gained knowledge after taking this class.
I loved the examples and ways that I was able to apply concepts to real life.
To grasp the overall idea of biomechanics
All of the aspects of this course will help me in the future.
Being able to use a formula sheet allowed me to focus on learning the material and how to apply the principles, rather than spending time trying to memorize formulas.
the content is great for any individual to have for their own knowledge and for helping those in the field that they may serve. the instructor is valuable as few can convey such advanced terms to students in a way that is understood easily.
The kinesthetic, practical applications.
Dr. Prins knowledge of the content
The most valuable aspect of the course was the relation to everyday activities.
forces acting on certain areas of the body, especially at joints
learning about how the body is affected in different ways when doing certain movements. how certain body types are an advantage in certain sports.
Learning the process in which the body goes through during an activity.
How biomechanices relates to specific sports and how we can use this knowledge to improve the outcome and performance of sports activities. Such as swimming, gymnastics, baseball etc.
the way he instructed the course through powerpoint and his explaination of the powerpoints
practical examples
Quizzes helped me stay on track and up to date with current material.
Learning more about the human body and how movement was so important in our lives
The powerpoint slides were the most valuable. All of his exam questions pertained to his pwerpoint slides so the exams were not total surprise.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Speak louder, give more practice questions for the calculation part of the lectures.
I think he did a pretty good job
I thought this was my favorite class I have taken at uh! No improvements apparent.
Great professor and can not really think of any
Dr. Prins is very organized and lectures are always very imformative.
Maybe have more labs where we can get away from the lecture slides and either do hands on work, or watch some action in real time.
He is doing great! Such passion and excitement he displays teaching the material, even though I know he has been teaching the same classes semester after semester
I feel that the exams are not a totally accurate reflection of the material. On some of the exams it seemed like only 40% of the material covered (and what was said that WOULD BE ON THE EXAM) was actually on the exam.
possibly curve the course to what the students get on the exams.
Teach his subject matter better. Have explanations on his powerpoints describing what is going on in the picture, instead of saying part of it quickly in class and expecting us to get all of it and know if it is right or not. When asked if it is the right answer he could tell us what it is instead of telling us to get with other students to find out the answer because they might give us the wrong answer or might not know themselves. After all, he is the teacher...
topics that aren't in the powerpoint presentation but are asked in detail on the exam, should be emphasized and explained in a way where we can have enough time to write the subject matter down, and thoroughly understand what he is talking about
more points offered in class not only on quizzes/tests.
Perhaps some videos to show that go along with what we're studying. Also, one quiz that included math calculations wasn't printed out so that we could do the calculations on the handout. But instead the numbers were shown briefly on PowerPoint and we were to write them down and do the calculations. I think I did badly on that quiz because not being able to see the questions to know what the numbers refereed to was confusing, even tho I had the numbers written down. So perhaps the professor could have left the slides up longer for us to see the problems or had the questions printed out for students to do the problems on.
none, being an athlete he accomidated me in every way and taught the class well so i understood the material well
lecture slower and emphasize the material needed for exams
More bonus points please! Homework could also help drive topics.
Maybe not throwing so much info on one exam or changing exam formats as sometimes they were very complex
Nothing really, I cant think of anythink that needs improvement. Maybe give out more practice problems for the math questions so that students can feel very confident going into exams.
less material covered for quizzes sometimes we have to review three powerpoint presentations for a quiz
21. What two or three single words best describe this instructor?
Enthusiastic, organized, knows his information
enthusiastic, helpful, understanding
I would say that Prins is definitely knowledgable. He really knows what he is talking about and I trust all the information he teaches us is very true. I would also say that he is humble. I think that is why I like him as a teacher, because he is smart but not cocky about it. He knows how to come across as the kind of teacher that wants to see all of his students do well, and I really like him for that. The last word I would use to describe him would be funny. I like his antics and the funny stories that he tells us. It helps to understand the material better not to mention its nice to laugh a little.

I think it is fine the way it is
I really don't see any room for improvement!
Based on Dr. Prins content, lectures I feel that course is great how it is. Dr. Prin'ss quizzes, and exams all stay consistent with the lectures.
Find ways to get students out of the classroom. Real world observation so we can see how the principles we learned apply on the field, court, or in the weight room.
it is fine the way it is
Curving the course to what the majority of the students have learned.
more info on joint forces, and possibly range of motion biomechanics based on muscle length and forces would have been cool to learn more about
as said before would prefer if there was more coursework allowing us demonstrate our knowledge and not just have our points based off of quizzes and tests. Dr Prins in a good teacher.
Professor Prins is an excellent teacher overall, I really enjoy his teachings. Only thing I would think to improve is to be more careful when keeping track of students grades. One time I found that one of my grades was accidentally entered as another student's grade.

more bonus points please? Graded homework would also help to keep us on track with current material.
As stated maybe not put so much info on one exam because no matter how much we study it is still hard to memorize every single detail.

Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn about kinesiology/biomechanics. This teacher is very knowledgable about the subject, is very well accomplished (has his own aquatherapy business, former U.S paraolympics coach, etc. etc), truly cares about his students, and loves to come to class and teach!! We need more teachers like this in Hawaii's education system. One of the best teachers Ive had, period.

8. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
the way the class was structured was very helpful to studying. weekly quizzes helped me to avoid cramming for exams.
Dr Prins fascilitated active learning, which to me promotes retention of information. This was important because his exams were tough, yet fair. My retention rate of previous classes was probably about 50-60% of information, but Dr Prins' class I would say I maintained 80% of the information so far.
Relating the information to everyday life and situations. The information learned in the class was interpreted in a very practical way.
The power points were well put together and very detailed. Labs are very helpful right before exams because we see models and pictures for different perspectives. There was a lot of repetition in this course, which only benefits the students in such a vigorous such as this one.
The pictures and diagrams in the powerpoints were most valuable because I am a visual learner. Also, the entertaining stories that Dr. Prins told helped me remember specific bones and muscles. Weekly quizzes were great to make sure students studied throughout the semester.
The lab portion was the most valuable because we got to look at model. Having hands on time with bones and muscles really helps me understand the body better.
I really enjoyed how Dr. Prins did his lectures. His lectures were very interesting and fun and I learned a lot.
I felt that this class is very valuable because it gives you a solid foundation and core background on the various muscles, bones, insertion, etc of the body whcih is a great thing to have especially if your going into the KRS or medical field.
The quizes because it really prepared me for the exam
I thought all round that class was great
Learning the muscle origins and insertions and how those locations resulted in the certain movements muscles performed
the content and the way it was taught was very good. very detailed
The lectures and powerpoints
Pictures and powerpoints helped me learn more than words
His stories helped me connect with the material very much.
Powerpoint slides being available online.
Understanding that the body is a complex set of mechanisms that all need to be treated with a practical approach.
I thought that all of the lectures were valuable. KRS 353 was one of those classes you must attend or you feel completely lost... and i was always extcited to attend the lectures and learn something new. The quizes that we had almost every week helped me to keep studying for the class. I found that the quizes helped you spread out your studying over the semester so that you didnt have to cram jam at the end.
The weekly quizzes are helpful in forcing you to study each week and not procrastinate until right before the tests to study. Dr. Prins goes through the material in a way that is detailed and informative, and also is very clear on his expectations for test material. The open lab classes right before each test are good opportunities to practice the information learned on the slides in lecture.
his personal experiences.
knowledge of the breakdown of muscles and their components. identification of each muscle and their actions through their anatomical shape, position, and size.
All of the notes provided by Dr. Prins were very helpful in learning the material.
His labs where very helpful
powerpoint slides
The weekly quizzes keeps you on your toes and allows you to obtain the knowledge needed for the exams with out cramming.
I thought that knowing everything about each body part was most valuable because in anatomy and physiology you just need to know the part. but in Prins class you had to know the plane, degree of movement, origin, insertion, and everything else about it.
The entire course load was very informative
Repetition and studying!
9. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
All aspects of this course is valuable, especially for those of us pursuing health care careers.
None. All were very valuable.
Too much information to memorize
Everything in this course was helpful from the powerpoints to the labs.
I did not find anything that I didn't enjoy about this class.
Nothing, everything i learned was valuable and good to know
none
Re-learning some of the powerpoints I had already learned from Biomechanics
not much, if so the instructor accomodated very well
None
reading the book, Dr. Prins goes thru everything and its easier to understand when he teaches it
Anything involving the textbook, wasnt necessary to purchase it.
I would have liked to have a corresponding lab with the lecture for extra learning opportunities.
I found the labs to be least valuable. Although it was good to get an idea of which models would be on the test, I found that it didnt help me that much..
When the power point presentations posted online did not match up with the ones shown in class. I understand omitting some material so that it makes it beneficial to attend class, but what was frustrating was that the omitted material was inconsistent. During note taking, you expect a series of slides to have some information, which Dr. Prins talks may have talked through quickly, and when you realize that some of the information is missing, its already too late to write down what was said and shown in the presentation.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Teaching the course was no problem for Dr. Prins.
Maybe a little more hands-on labs with models so we are able to see structures in 3-dimension.
The lab needs more models
I think he is doing a great job! It's a lot of material to learn and he is straight up about it. Everything is pretty straight forward.
Slowing down on more important concepts like the origins and insertions in the powerpoints.
I wouldn't change the way that he taught this course. It was very informative and I enjoyed the way he taught.
Nothing that i can think of.
possibly slow down a little on a few of the slides
Recommend students to bring lap tops to class, or print out the slides for an easier way to follow along during lectures
It was taught just fine
Include points from homework... other than quizzes and tests
A/C in the room
I can't see how.
Encourage more lab opportunities.
I thought that he did a great job at teaching the course!
When the power point presentations posted online did not match up with the ones shown in class. I understand omitting some material so that it makes it beneficial to attend class, but what was frustrating was that the omitted material was inconsistent. During note taking, you expect a series of slides to have some information, which Dr. Prins talks may have talked through quickly, and when you realize that some of the information is missing, its already too late to write down what was said and shown in the presentation.
putting less points in quizes and more on exams.
incorporate ways to make it easier to identify and associate muscles for more knowledge retention.
Having another day to look at the models would be helpful for the students.
Ensure that the professor's powerpoint slides match what's posted on Laulima. Besides that, don't change a thing! It's not an easy course, but it is very straight-forward in its expectations, and the professor makes an otherwise difficult course manageable and enjoyable.
pretty much a well rounded course he has laid out, nothing really to change.
n/a
More hands on learning, or lab days rather
I think he did a great job of teaching but he would go over the slides very fast and sometimes it was hard to catch up.
Speaking a little louder so everyone in the back of the class can hear clearly

27. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I can only suggest breaking up some parts of the 2nd and 3rd exams and combining those parts to form a 4th exam. I know time is limited, but the 2nd exam was A LOT of information.
Should be offered in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. All subject material should be related to everyday life experiences.
Nothing wrong with multiple choice questions.
It's very well put together.
Slowing down in certain parts of the lectures. Be a bit more enthusiastic in lecture.
I can't suggest any improvements since this class was really taught well.
Cant think of much to improve. Was a great class with good information.
More 3-D models
I don't see how it can be improved
just add hw and other points for students to do better
More hands on activities. Especially right after the specific lecture
Not a study guide, but perhaps a handout to help students how to study for the course.
I still learned a great deal, and I feel if taken seriously this course has alot to offer. My previous suggestions were only made out of neccesity i think this course needs minimal improvement.
The power point slides sometimes are repetive...
less points on quizes and more on exams. I got A's on my exams but the quizes pulled me down.
finds ways to better help students to memorize, understand, and learn the subject matter.
Offer more than one section a semester.
Optional cadaver labs at the UH Medical School would be helpful in reinforcing course concepts.
I think it's pretty much a great course.
