10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The knowledge related to musculoskeletal system.
We learn most in the lectures.
Integrating sports movements with what we learned. Mostly this was done in the text, although Dr. Prins gave us the answers to the text exercises. Some of it was discussed in lecture. I would like to see more application of the content of this class to sports and exercise done in lecture.
Lots of information on a variety of topics.
It was very applicable to life.
The fairness of the tests and the applicability of the material.
I think learning the muscles and everything regarding the origin, insertion, action, and innervation was the most useful.
lecture and the lab
Understanding how groups of muscles work relations to an action
Dr. Prins is very clear and concise. His lectures are easy to follow and he is accommodating when it comes to rescheduling exams. He has been very helpful throughout the semester and it has been a pleasure learning from him.
Movements of every area.
Learning the actions of all the different muscles and how to apply them, also learning about different conditions and injuries
Very fast paced, so powerpoints and verbal lecture along with study guide sheets helped
I think having the power points during lecture and having a whole day to do the lab helps a lot... Not to mention 5 pages of notes during the exam!
When he applied the topics to real situation because I thought the information he gave to us were very useful for our future career.
Dr Prins explains things very well. His teaching style is very helpful and he really wants his students to do well. I wish he taught PHYL 301/302
The material and practical applications
How straightforward and to the point Dr. Prins was with all of the lectures and what he expected
Organization, lots of information that will be useful in other classes
The labs were especially helpful in enabling me to visualize where the different muscles originated and inserted. It made understanding the material a lot easier.
the structural physiology and side information about topics.
The content was relatable to everyday life and it was information that necessary and interesting for my major.
Everything in this course was valuable!
His own insight and experience
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
See 29.
This maybe just because so much material had to be covered at one time, but jumping from the lower limbs to head anatomy was odd.
Go over some of the slides more slowly, give students time to take notes on them.
I think that because I took it during the summer, it was accelerated and we went through a lot. But he did an excellent job at explaining the most important points.
I think its good as is
Using a mic would help a lot so that students in the back of the class can hear better.
Nothing
He can go over some of the slides such as the ones with origins and insertions that weren't in the student notes a little slower inorder for the students to be able to copy the correct notes. Also make sure he lets us know the answers to some of the questions he tells us to look up on our own, incase the answers we search for on the internet are arbitrary.
I think he taught this class pretty well for a fast paced summer course
Nothing!
Allow us to drink water.
best course i've taken in a long time
I have no comment, I can imagine how hard this course is during the regular semester as more memorization is needed, but during the summer this course is more about being on top of your notes more than anything.
nothing, keep doing what you're doing.
The course was well taught, no improvement is needed
Possibly give more examples of which muscles are being activated in relation to sport or activity.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
More stories
This course is excellent and I've learned a lot, despite the wide array of information required to learn.
As stated earlier, I'd like to see more application of the course material/content to sports exercises during lecture. Primarily this is done through the text assignments now.
The only downside was how much material was covered each day, but that's just how summer school works.
none
I think that the summer course is very good. It takes into consideration of how much material is being covered while giving students reasonable amount of time to study and comprehend the general points.
course is fine as is
Playing games (like Jeopardy ) with the other students will help a lot in the learning process. Also, before each exam have a quick review of the lectures exam will cover.
Nothinh
Go slower over some of the material, and give more life examples and show videos in presentation. Help explain some of the models with the class.
I think this course could be improved by applying the course material to real life situation more. Also, it can be improved by giving us more materials/information on each of the muscles.
Different classroom.

Thank you
I love how Dr. Prins gives personal examples of certain situations to the muscles.
This class was good and interesting and is a good foundation for kinesiology.
One of my favorite teachers I've had at UH Manoa so far. Learned a lot from this course, and Dr. Prins.
Dr. Prins is very helpful if you have any questions about the subject or if you're confused about anything
Love your sense of humor and teaching, keep up the amazing work.
Thanks Dr. Prins!
Excellent class. Thank you very much Professor Prins. I learned a lot.
I enjoyed class and every thing that he teaches. He is awesome because I could understand what he is teaching. The slides were great.
He's a good, funny teacher. Gets straight to the point!

Dr. Prins is very knowledgable on the subject.
The lectures
Dr Prins knowledge, experience and short stories helped me succeed and learned a lot in his class. His lectures and powerpoints were also helpful.
The entire course!
has to actually learn the material and apply it to different situations
the open lab sessions
The course was very informative
All the lectures and slides were valuable
I found learning more about the anatomy aspect was very valuable. It gave me a better sense of what muscles and structures affect which movements and motions of the body.
The style of teaching, making us memorize the material instead of giving us multiple choice.
a lot of anatomy i will need in future
Knowing origin and insertion for majority of the muscles in the body.
I learned how to prepare for the exam by preparing for quizzes and tests
Everything.
The weekly quizzes truly help you to keep up with the material.
Lab times to study the models before the exam
All the information we learned. The hands on experience we got with the lab models. The quizzes were EXTREMELY helpful to keep me updated on the material. It made studying for the tests a TON easier b/c I'd already gone through 2/3 of the material
I had to really learn how to take notes and understand information. had to learn how to take the information dr prins gave us and apply to real life models and situations. 80% of the class was memorization but the hardest part was learning to apply.
Everything was valuable.
Literally everything
labs
The lectures were the most helpful and the power points being available to us were cry helpful .
His awesome attitude and great willing to help students and format the material in a understandable and relatable way considering the density of the material. He is AWESOME...
Taking the whole semester to focus on body structures were valuable, because in comparison to physiology/anatomy, this class went at a slower pace to learn what needed to be learned. Whereas, the physio class breezed through the same information in a span on 2 weeks.

Hopefully have more lab days with the models to learn about them.
maybe use models while giving the powerpoint lectures

none
I liked how he taught the class, do not think there is much for improvements since it met my expectations.
I feel that he is a very great teacher and I have already recommended others to take the class from him for next semester.
talk a little louder
Dr. Prins is far beyond knowledgeable with what he teaches that it makes me more interested with the material. I like how he talks at a very "indoor voice" level that it forces us to pay close attention to his lectures. I have nothing negative to say about his teaching.
none
He was one of the best instructors I've had. Any improvements would be overachievement.
maybe use tangible models in lecture?
I'm not sure if Dr. Prins has any control over it, but the powerpoints were very poorly done. They are extremely repetitive & are structured in a way that's hard to follow. I had to edit each powerpoint to make it easier to learn & memorize. I strongly believe that students should be allowed to at least drink their water in class. I understand about the no food, but water is essential!
He is doing a perfectly fine job.
I don't think Jan Prins needs to change anything, I loved the class, I wish maybe there were outside of class help for students (like tutoring) to help the newer students figure out how to study for the quizzes. I don't think prins treated all his students equally because if you cared about your grade and worked hard and asked for help, dr prins cared about you and wanted you to succeed as well.
The course was good as it was.
Give more hints as to what will be on quizzes

I think we covered everything that should be covered in structural kinesiology. We covered both the skeletal and muscular part of each area of the body. Theres not much that can be improved in the course.
More quizes
Just wish there were more days available for labs on the models to learn and study for the quizzes and exams. Also wish the classroom was a located in a better place or closed room with airconditioning because of the commercial trucks, swimming pool and outside disturbance next to L&L.
For the lab exams let us pick up the models, or touch them so we can better see if its the right or left or back or front of he model.

Making more exams so that the material is stretched out more so not so much information is on a single exam. Homework assignments to help students to learn course material.
A little easier
Maybe a little more group work, like hands on activities that can demonstrate different movement in different planes and different muscles involved.

prepare students for what they're getting themselves into, let them know they can do it if they really try
I think Dr.Prins should communicate a little bit louder because everyday we had a lecture a lot of people would need him to repeat himself because they couldn't hear him.
There should be more lab material and actual homework to help improve grades and understanding. Having homework for this class would help students accumulate their points and make sure students study outside of class. Homework that is required to be turned in

Prins is a great teacher! He knows how to communicate with students in an extremely effective way. Can tell this isn't his first rodeo.
I really liked that the tests & quizzes were very straight forward. If you learned, understood, & memorized the powerpoints you will get 100% on the tests. This is very refreshing b/c a lot of my other classes, this is not the case.
Great course.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The concepts of biomechanics
Being able to apply what I learned in past courses to challenge me in how to apply them to this course. Also, the organization and easy way that Prins portrays the information needed to be learned.
Everything in this course is wonderfully applicable to everyday life, not just in sports. The internal force arms and the amounts of force they can endure safely endure with respect to the external force arms have been most valuable to me inside and outside of class -- especially during my workouts.
Dr. Prins is awesome!!
loved this course. loved the professor.
The knowledge and experiences that Dr.Prins shared with us.
In class lectures with Dr. Prins
Lectures are always the best part of this class. Dr. Prins is very knowledgeable but still knows how to teach in a way that is understandable and relatable. Lectures will give you insight into what will be on quizzes or exams, as well as hints about future bonus questions.
Powerpoints
Attending lectures
All the stuff about muscle mechanics and understanding how the body works as multiple units to carry out certain movements
I thought the section on torque and loads on the extremities of the body was the most valuable because this will come in really handy if I pursue a career in physical therapy.
Everything
I thought the professor's hands-on, life-applicable experiences were really beneficial in letting me see how the class information was important and helped me learn it more easily.
Almost everything was most valuable, but learning the specifics of the physics involved with limb movement was at the top.
I valued the breakdown of all the equations and the importance of each variable and how when using certain formulas to calculate for an unknown variable how all variables relate to one another.
I will probably use everything taught in this course in my career (PT). I think this is one of the classes that should absolutely stay a part of the KRS program. The course is difficult, but not beyond reason.
Learning about different aspects that could affect an athletes performance based on their biomechanics was very interesting.
Dr Prins makes this class. His insight on all the subjects is amazing, and he can answer any question thrown at him in a simple straight forward, yet very clear way. I think he is great.
The amount and quality of material I learned in this class was most valuable to me. I learned several things that gave me a new perspective on the biomechanics of everyday activities and sports. This knowledge will be useful in my future career.
I really enjoyed the connection between biomechanics and anatomy.
Clinical correlations, real life applications
Attending classes and paying attention to lectures offers me a great learning experience and lots of new significant information about biomechanics and the human body. Also attending classes is very helpful towards quizzes.
how he gave sports related examples to apply concepts
He states exactly the type of answers he wants to see on the quizzes and exams so there's no confusion.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The physics portion
I wouldn't say anything in this course carried no value
Not having clear concepts and application
None.
Not enough in class working out of the problems
N/A
Not having a text book
Possibly some of the math that was involved in this class... You may not run into these kinds of situations in real life, only if you're doing research?
I think every aspect of this course was valuable because even if we end up doing something completely unrelated for our career, the things that we learned can be used in activities of daily living (eg. how to lift properly).
Nothing
nothing
We need a book. Using power point slides alone to study takes a course with material that is already difficult and makes it 10x harder. If you miss any lectures at all, you are going to be confused trying to understand the material your self. Not that Prins didn't make him self available to people outside of class to help them catch up, but seriously, this course needs a book for people that want to more thoroughly read about various covered topics.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
The class is a great class as is
The course is good the way it is.
Maybe the slides could be a bit more condensed so when reading them later it is easier for me to connect the dots between them
By keeping it the same.
Assign more homework and in class assignments to ensure students are properly learning material
I'm not really sure he can improve, this class is phenomenal.
A text book would be helpful.
He doesn't need to! :)
By clearly explaining things that he wants the students to know, rather than saying that we have to look things up on our own. Sometimes, the things he has us look up are hard to find and when we ask him questions about it, he says that we should know these things, but how are we to know them if he hasn't taught it to us?
I thought Dr. Prins did an excelent job of teaching this course. He made 2 out of the 3 exams open book and he offers a lot of extra credit bonus points so it's really hard to fail this class.
Its Awesome
Although not having a book was fantastic on the wallet, if a book was required it would have been one I kept for life.
Get a book. No...seriously. If not that, PLEASE record the lectures on video and make them available online after the lecture is over. At least for people that have excused absences. So many of the power point slides are just pictures, and if you miss class or can't hear what he said, you will have no idea what you're looking at. Also, fix the air conditioner or something so that we can close the windows and not have to strain to hear him over the sound of the swimming team that seems to practice as loudly as humanly possible every time we have class. I'd say I missed around 3-5% of the course material because I simply couldn't hear him over the outside noises. He doesn't mind if you stop him and ask him to repeat what he said, but for the more timid classmates, they are out of luck!

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
taught in a class with a/c so that the swim team doesnt bother our class with their practice.
Maybe a bit of interactive hands on exercises that would enable students understand the materials in a more visual way to add a more tangible viewpoint to some of the conceptual understandings and differences between things such as radial acceleration and force for example. I think adding more lab like exercises to the class could really help gain the concepts that much better and in turn allowing us to paint a picture that would be easier to remember and apply once out of school,
More explaination of material
Adding in points for homework or attendance would be nice. Being graded strictly on test scores isn't fair to those who learn differently.
By not changing anything.
More homework, more in class assignments
N/A
Adding more description to the power points would be helpful especially since there is no text book to reinforce the material.
This course was taught very well. If you study, you shouldn't have a problem with it
This course could be improved by adding in more to the powerpoints rather than just an overview of what things are. Or by adding more examples of the mathematics that are included (if that's what we're being tested on).
I thought this course was good the way it was. Even though biomechanics is a hard class, it wasn't too overwhelming.
The tests and quizzes sometimes feel unnecessarily difficult, even if you studied 3-5hrs for them. He asks a bit to many questions that fall under the "you had to be there" category (meaning if you were not in class, you have no chance of answering it). I know this is a good way to make sure students come to class, but it almost felt excessive at times. This course basically demands 100% of your attention at all times, and 100% attendance to do really well. This is sometimes difficult for a 730am class with open windows and a swim team that seems to always be screaming at each other. Seriously...change their practice times or buy them ball-gags.
Maybe have some sort of work done in a weight room to allow us to apply concepts in real life setting
Put a small microphone on. When swim team is practicing and large trucks are going by we can't hear you. Even if we are in the second row from the front. :(
It would be interesting to incorporate some lab or field work to demonstrate some concepts if given ample class time. However, the course doesn't need improvement.
Concepts explained thoroughly in powerpoints. More clinical correlations.
This course is taught well by Dr. Prins.

Thank you for a great semester, Prins! I really enjoyed the class and can't wait to take subsequent courses with you.
Prins is a wonderful professor and clearly has a passion for the subjects he teaches. He has taught me so many fun facts that I am sure I will carry with me and share with others for a lifetime. His class has me actually liking physics and even thinking about going further in my studies simply because my new found interest in the subject now outweighs my fear of the difficulties and math required to understand physics. I appreciate how understanding he is toward his students and grading. He really makes it 100% possible for any student to get out what they put in. He is one of the fairest teachers I've ever in that he clearly states what he expects and gives you all the tools to reach those expectations. I wish I could take this class again when not so overwhelmed with other classes so I could give my full attention to all incredibly useful and interesting topics.
I would definitely recommend taking KRS 463 with Dr. Prins. He really knows his stuff and he makes an intimidating subject like biomechanics fun to learn.
The more I think about it, the less this course needs a book, and the more this course actually needs Dr. Prins to video record his lectures and put them up for us to download. He has interesting stories and he explains material fairly well, so I guess a book is not necessary. But yah...something needs to be done to help augment the power point slides that are often greatly lacking in explanation. But yah. I felt out of all my courses in the KRS program, this class is in the top 5 of "most likely to use the information I learned in my career" category. Prins is awesome. The only people I know that didn't like him were people that were lazy and didn't bother showing up most of the time. He's really tough, takes no bullshit, and his exams are insanely hard, but he's at least fair and will help you as much as possible as long as you care/try.
Dr. Prins is my favorite professor in the department because he is fair and consistent with his grading. He also prepares students to understand and remember the test material.
Keep doing what you are doing Dr. Prins.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Learning the origins and insertions of muscles to understand better where an issue within a muscles origin would then affect its area of insertion.
Everything, I will definitely take the things I learned in this class with me in future courses and in my intended career.
Every lecture was a great supplement for the future courses ahead
I loved how he grouped things together, so we learned one section of the body at a time so it was easier to memorize
Increasing my knowledge about the anatomy and also the physiology of the human body because they way Prins teaches this class, makes it easier for me to understand the information.
We were told what was important to know for the class, and not to study things that would be covered in future courses. This made for more efficient studying.
Dr. Prins is a able to make anatomy an interesting subject and also has helped me retain much of the knowledge that he imparted in class.
Ability to use the anatomical muscle information and apply it to what we do everyday in real life. Being able to know what muscles are used in certain actions. Helps with being more inclined to be physically active as well.
The power points and the labs
Jan Prins is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of this course. I feel like I learned a lot of valuable information because his knowledge is so valuable in itself.
Dr. Prins took the somewhat difficult material and made it reasonable for us students to learn.
He explains exactly how things are going to be, such as what material will be covered as well as the difficulty of tests.
The quizzes that forced us to study in preparation for the exams.
I liked that the classroom was open in the afternoon the day before the test to study more, and that Professor Prins had the powerpoints online so we could look at them at home.
The content of the material and the application of the material towards my future career.
Learning about the muscles and skeletal structures
Professor prins was very knowledgable of the course material and applied what we were learning to real life examples which helped to understand and remember the concepts. Working in the fitness field Already, I learned new information that I could apply to my work.
Open lab
I think there were enough resources such as the book and lab sessions
The visualization of the muscle structures and the learning methods
His explanations, demonstrations and powerpoints.
They way he taught the class was really helpful and straight foreward.
I find the quizzes to be most valuable. It prepares me for the exams. I also find the lab days to be very useful as well.
His class was super informative. His powerpoints were very detailed and helped a lot with exams. He also helped a lot with our questions and made things clear with what we should know for our future. Also added some biomechanics which allowed us to prepare for our future class.
Knowledge of muscles and movements
How straight to the point everything was. Dr. Prins teaches in a way that engages every individual to learn the material at a relatively good pace and isn't too demanding at all.

Great job
Possibly have more interactive sessions other than the lab classes. Maybe just come up with a few activities that students can do related to the lecture content, just to allow students to do hands on exercises. Speak a bit louder, sometimes was hard to hear because of all the outside activities, not entirely professors fault though because the sports team were blasting their terrible music outside.
Only to talk louder...i was sitting in the back a few times, i could barely hear him.
I found it difficult to rely solely on quiz and exam points. It would be nice to include some sort of attendance points or short homework assignments for those who aren't good test takers
Make the lectures more engaging and help us with ways to memorize the material
I don't really think he could improve it
Possibly incorporate models into his lectures, while he is talking about muscle groups he can illustrate movements at the same time by use of models that are used in the lab.
He should add an extra lab day to help students be more familiar with the skeletal models
I would have liked to have an extra open lab, it was hard to come to the Wednesday extra lab and would be nice to have another time and day available to students that want to study more.
speak louder and not go through the slides so fast
no improvements
Nothing, he's great.
I think Prof. Prins is doing a good job :)
He could improve by making test multiple choices
Honestly, I have no complaints about how this course was taught. I was engaged the whole time and learned a lot.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
This course could be improved with more hands on time working with models as demonstrations. This would help to better visualize the subject matter.
This class could be improved by helping students memorize the tough concepts more easily. Otherwise it was very good, I learned a lot.
One improvement that this course can benefit with is additional lab time. I feel if students had more time to work with the actual models they will obtain a better sense of what they're learning
I think the course to fine how it is
this class does not need improvement.
I think the course might cover a bit to much material for how much we are required to know...but only slightly.
Cant think of anything
Give more exams, so the material is not so much to remember at one...maybe have 4 exams to lighten the load of exam 2.
More hands on learning dealing with the models would be nice.
Including points from things other than exams and quizzes such as attendance, homework, projects etc.
By making the lectures more engaging.
there should be homework (or at least worksheets) for us to fill out each day to go over the stuff we just learnt.
This course could be improved by adding more time on skeletal models
No improvement needed
Nothing
I think this course as a whole is good. Nothing really that I suggest improving
This could be improved by keeping the information to a minimal
Possibly a better time slot than 7:30am. For a class that requires a lot of memorization, having it very early does push my limits as I am not fully able to concentrate because of grogginess. Other than that, the course itself is great as it is.
30. Other comments:
All in all this course has set a great foundation for the rest of my major's studies and I look forward to taking him in future courses.
Thanks for your time, I learned so much! I definitely had to earn my grade
Overall, this course was a pleasant one and hands down one of the best teachers I've had as a student at UH MANOA.

Dr. Prins is a great teacher, and I look forward to his other classes. His sense of humor is dry, and that might put off some people or cause them to think he is picking on them, but he means nothing by it.
Hard to come by good professors at UH Manoa, but Professor Prins is a great one. He takes real pride in his subject and is understanding and respectable to his students.
Jan Prins does an amazing job, and I am looking forward to taking his biomechanics class because of the great job he did with us in krs 353. I was excited to come to class and learn from him every single time I sat down in my seat. He deserves praise for his hard work and knowledge
Challenging course. Learned a lot.
this course is very challenging, and Jan Prins knew everything very well. this was my second time taking this class, and he did a much better job than the teacher at a different school I had for this course.
Professor prins really cared about the material he was teaching and his students. His tests were challenging but provided us with all of the material that we needed to know in lectures. I learned a lot of valuable information in this course, probably more than most classes I have taken. It is refreshing to have teachers that really care and it shows in his teaching.
Is very straightforward with the material we will be tested on. Saves a lot of study time and motivates me to learn and study everything, because i know exactly what he will test on. Unlike other teachers who give a ridiculous ammount of material and refuse to tell you what we need to know, it makes it a lot easier to give up on studying and its a lot harder to learn when you cram so much useless information
I really learned a lot in the class and it was very well structured
None
HONESTLY, THE BEST COURSE I HAVE TAKEN IN COLLEGE SO FAR. THE KNOWLEDGE I GAINED IS UNMATCHED, UNTIL I TAKE THE PROCEEDING CLASSES WITH DR. PRINS.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Power points, sticking on schedule, tests and quizzes graded and returned promptly.
learning about movements of the body and the forces behind them
Dr. Prins' power points were very helpful in this course because they were simple yet effective in teaching us complex concepts.
HOw to apply biomechanics to everyday life
The real life applications. I really like the pictures included into the tests.
There was no book, so we had to listen and take good notes.
All the material learned helped me for my physics class, since the class combines trig and physics. I really learn more from when Prins gives examples during class of what's being taught and gives the students a chance to ask questions and really understand the material.
The teacher. He is an excellent instructor that has a very good grasp on the field and is able to translate his knowledge and teach us some of what he knows.
Real life examples, able to relate to the material and content.
All information is valuable
learning about the physics of the body
I think that the most valuable thing that I have learned in this class is the fundamentals of biomechanics that I can build on in future courses.
Learning every day examples of forces acting on the body, how the effectiveness of the body changes based on positioning and external forces as well as internal forces.
I really liked how Dr prins goes over each lecture at a good speed and explains things when the class has questions. Also the exams arnt easy however he teaches the subject so well that you know the concept or topic well
aspects of the spine and what is healthy for the back when moving was the most valuable
the material that was taught was understandable and clear.
Learning the biomechanics of the body
Applying real life examples to the concepts we learned.
I liked that he is very knowledgeable of the material that he has taught in class. I liked that he took the time to make powerpoints for the class to help us study for the quizzes.
They were all equally valuable.
Entire course. No required text was a benefit.
I really enjoyed how Prins put emphasis on the application of knowledge. This is the way that I learn and retain information the best!
the powerpoints and the worksheets
learning the material from this class
Everything
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Professor read from slides rather than elaborate. Did not elaborate, gave brief description, let out early. Rather have him explain things more thoroughly than get out early. I'm here to learn and understand as much as I can.

I don't think that there was anything that I consider invaluable. Everything we learned was new to me and I feel that it is things that I should or need to know for future classes.

nothing bad about this class
Equations about biomechanics weren't valuable for me because I won't use it for my future.

Explain concepts more thoroughly. Give information to deepen understanding of what is written in the power points.
doesn't need to
I think the way Dr. Prins taught the class was great and I wouldn't change anything about it.
n/a
Nothing. I like how he doesnt have a book and uses just the powerpoints as a study guide. All the material is direct and is easily learned. He is very helpful and is always open to questions and helping students.
Some actual visual aids might help for some of the bio-mechanical aspects.
No need for improvement
nothing more can be done. this class is perfect
I think something that he can improve on is having a set schedule and sticking to because there are some days I don't know what's happening.
Jan Prins teaches this course with high effectiveness as is
more group involvement
Being more clear in teaching the equations and the concepts. I felt that there was too much content squeezed into the semester that although I tried really hard to keep up, it was difficult.
He has demonstrated very well that he knows the material and how to teach it to his students. I wouldn't change anything.

Jan Prins should be used by grad students to learn how to teach. Before the teach they should have to sit through his class and see how he teaches and learn to adapt how he teaches to their style and personalities. To many of the grad students rely on the books or power-points. Anyone can read a power-point, but to have a power-point that is yours and you can actually explain it and teach from it is a whole different way of instructing
One of the best teachers in the KRS department.

Complete memorization of the material, will be useful in my future career.
EVERYTHING!
Dr. Prins does a great job in answering our questions while showing us examples which really help.He is easy to approach and knows a great deal on the subject.
The criteria he taught were valuable because I will need it for my career
The application to everyday bodily movements.
Learning about every bone & muscle in the human body.
The cheat sheets for the exams. Too much information for just a six week course.
A lot of information in regards to PT and real world application
Creating a 5 page cheat sheet
Dr. Prins pointed out how the info was related to our majors and our personal lives
Pretty much everything that we learned/were taught was very valuable. We are going to need to know everything for our future classes, as well as professions.
The lectures and slides were definitely most helpful. Quizes also pushed you to start learning the material early before the exam.
Dr. Prins extensive knowledge of all the material covered in this course.
I think that the labs were really helpful
learning about all the muscles and bones in the body
Learning about all the clinical applications of this course.
everything
I like that we had muscle tests. Even though it is hard it definitely helped me learn the muscles more effectively than any other class.
practice exams posted on laulima
All aspects of this course were very valuable towards my major. I loved the way we learned about the muscles and bones and how we had to think critically on all of our exams .
Learning which muscles in the leg perform which movements
learning what the muscles do in every part of the body. It made me realize what a complex system out bodies are
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
None
individual lab time was least valuable - should be either class lab or guided lab with worksheet to fill out that will be completed and handed in for points. individual learning of things like that is superbly hard and not worth it to the student. There is no motivation for it, not even extrinsic.

Maybe explaining the concepts in a way that's easier to grasp, such as through more real life examples
-- snipped --
Already a sturdy and challenging course, maybe have more involvement with the class, but since it was a summer session it was alot of material to go through so there wasnt much time for anything fun.
HARD PART IS QUIZZES
The lectures at times can get boring. Maybe spice it up with more jokes.
More interactions and labs
N/A
Felt rushed, but it's understandable since the course is so short in the summer.
Everything went smoothly and he taught everything pretty well so as far as improvements go, I have no suggestions.
The exams were in my opinion very challenging. Without a curve it is quite hard to get an A
Assigning homework to supplement the lecture
When showing examples of the body, make sure that everyone can see what is being done.
he can slow down during the lectures, it seemed it was a bit to fast and slowing down would have been better.
nothing.
don't change anything
I didn't like the quizzes because they were really hard and I had a hard time memorizing all the material. It was hard for me to figure out what information was going to be on the test because there was so much.
More interactive learning
I think that Dr. Prins is doing a terrific job teaching the course. I do not believe that he needs to make any changes to the way that he teaches this course.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
It could be improved through more explanation and real life examples so that we can grasp the concepts easily. Assigning homework and including that In the grade could keep students on track as well
tone down information of course. only go over the biggest concepts and information with an introductory course like this. more advanced courses can give more in depth information.
n/a
Maybe using real models or a chance to visit real models can give us a better understanding of anatomy.
The class can more in depth of certain topics and less in others less related
Being that we learned all the muscles and bones in the body in 6 weeks, I think he's done a good job in organizing this class to fit the allotted time.
Maybe focus on what is really important since the course was packed into 6 weeks rather than trying to cover everything and not going into much depth.
I think extending the course by a couple of weeks would be a lot better. Some other courses are offered for an extended 2 weeks (I believe) and I think this course, since there's so much content to learn, would be a good one to have extended.
More opportunity to raise your grade such as writing assignments, extra credit, or other means of showing your knowledge and understanding of the course other than pure memorization. Some students do not perform best under these exam styles
More time, longer classes, more homework.
I feel like this class can be improved with more lab activities with lab partners. This give the students a chance to teach each other, which i feel like can greatly improve the learning of the material in this class.
Just slow down during the lectures. Also give us students the slideshows that you are presenting.
I feel this course covers everything that needs to be covered. I learned more than I expected. Nothing needs to change.
don't, change, anything
Less information would be helpful for quizzes and test.
N/A
Couldn't be improved. I liked how he allowed us to use notes for exams since the content was condensed into such a short period of time.
Some of the pictures for the lab portion of the exams could be better quality. There could be more real life examples of how the muscles in our bodies are being used

Thank you!
loved the class. hope I get an A
Dr. Prins is a well known instructor in the KRS department. I have heard nothing but good things about him my entire time at UH. He is a great professor and I learned a lot in this course. I look forward to taking other classes with him.
Overall, it is a good class
His humor cracks me up & his stories are awesome.
I would have like the A/C on. :D
great teacher, i learned a lot!
I feel that as a student out of the four years that I have attend UH Manoa , I have learned the most from Dr. Prins. He is very knowledgeable and makes us think critically. He applies everyday situations and prepares us for other courses such as biomechanics etc. Also I feel that he is very very valuable asset to the staff here at the university.
Great course!

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
the knowledge that dr. prins demonstratedin this subject.
all aspects were valuable, especially the lab parts
Dr. Prins... He's an amazing teacher and I wish he taught more classes. Hard class, but at least it made sense compared to must teachers who teach you one thing and test you on another...
The in class lectures.
The simplicity in the way that material was presented was probably one of the most valuable aspects of this course. All of the material was straight forward and we were never overloaded with too much information that we did not need to know. Each time material was presented Dr. Prins would be very clear on what we needed to know for exams and quizzes.
The material itself is most valuable, and the organization of the lectures made studying and comprehending that material really easy. The quizzes were especially helpful because it made me study throughout the course and not just prior to an exam.
spending an hour each day going over material
The lectures
Learning all the muscles
going to class everyday and taking notes of the lecture
Labs and teaching of experience with certain cases can help paint a picture and better understanding of the topic.
Learning about A LOT of muscles and bones.
I believe that everything that was taught in this course was valuable.
all the material was very good. the professor made it very clear from the beginning what he expected from us. he expected you to be discipline. lectures were very interesting
I learned a lot of anatomy in this course that could help me to pursue my career as a physical therapist.
Clinical correlations, real-life stories (whether heard or from experience), and pictures (some graphic) were most valuable. The DVD shown in the last class was amazing, and definitely an eye-opener.
the connection of muscle movements to real life situations such as sports.
Great in-depth review of muscles of the body and their relations to each other as well as body movements.
Dr. Prins uses a lot of life experiences to demonstrate and explain concepts in class, and has much compassion for his field of study. He is a great teacher and you can learn valuable information, granted you go to class every day. Quizzes every other week or so keep you on your toes and help for the comprehensive test which can be a bit difficult if attempted unprepared.
studying for quizes and exams. spending at least an hour a day reviewing the material
The lecture power points were most valuable and well explained during lecture
The subject itself and also the lab portions, being able to identify the muscles, via their actions and origins etc.
The information supplied to us was extremely useful and will be extremely useful in continuing my KRS education and pursuing my degree.
Learning to memorize the material was very challenging as well being able to demonstrate having learned it. This I feel is very valuable because it helps me to learn the material better and will help me more in the long run.
The most valuable aspects were definitely the open labs, practice exams, concise lecture slides, and helpful examples given by Dr. Prins. Even the weekly quizzes were helpful in getting the material to stick in my mind.
having a class that focuses solely on the muscles and the skeletal system was valuable.
I liked that there is no curve. We are graded on what we know. I also like his policy on phones and food/drink in class. I find it distracting and disrespectful and I appreciate his interest in our learning experience.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

Telling us there's a quiz on Thursday when it's already Tuesday... Sometimes he would change his mind last minute about what the quiz would be on.... However, he seemed far with the quiz strength
I didn't read the text very much. I used the book for the images, but didn't read the chapters.
I did not think that any aspects of the course were least valuable. I think all aspects were important for learning the material and being successful in this course.
I honestly thought everything was relevant and valuable to some degree.

skipping over explaining parts of the powerpoint in the presentation. i would rather stay the entire class period and go over the powerpoint in greater detail. some students learn better when the professor explains it, not just by studying powerpoints and reading the book.

everything is fine
maybe have required homework assignments
Use more class time? although I really enjoyed getting out early most of the time.
I liked the structure of this course and do not think that it needs to be improved in anyway because the material was presented very clearly and concisely.
I really don't know. I thought it was great.
make classe easier muiltple choice
Keeping grades up to date
Use laulima for grades
none
Everything subject was covered very well.
I think that the way he teaches is great and that it is very effective. He should continue teaching the way he currently does.
professor did good. maybe try to relate material to the different professional pathways we are trying to achieve. like for instance; relate muscles and injuries to different fields of study. muscles that are typically injured and rehabbed.
Stay the same.
Have the class follow along in the movements-it might help them gain a better perspective on what they're learning.
Speak louder. Road traffic noise and the swimming pool right outside the classroom made it difficult to hear the lectures sometimes.
maybe half a page to one page of notes to use on exams
The exams are challenging which is good but often I felt to much material was covered for each exam which prevented my from bing able to retain all the information needed to succeed in each exam.
I think it would be helpful if he maybe helped the students a little bit more on the lab part section of the course. Also clarify in more detail the specific naming of the material, such as a long sentence for an insertion of a muscle. Confusing at times on how to memorize how he wants us to write it.
Potentially offer more opportunities for students to get together and study at the beginning of the quarter, it could help students figure out what exactly they need to be focusing on.
explain more of the topics/concepts in the powerpoints. it may seem simple, but for some people, its confusing. If you could take the time to explain more things in the powerpoint during lecture, that could be beneficial to many students.
I enjoyed his teaching style VERY much. I wouldn't change a thing....except being graded on spelling.

i can think of any ways that this course could be improved
we should have more lab classes
More use of models during lectures
N/A
Better review of the exams would allow the students to learn which parts of the lab they missed. Knowing the right answer is one thing; however with a picture attached to the question it would be more beneficial in the learning process.
There is a lot of material covered in this class, and I did pretty well on the exams. The only thing is that everything from previous sections I have already forgotten. Not that I would want to add to exam materials or quizzes, but maybe extra credit assignments could be used to make us go over old material to keep it fresh.
make it easier, expects so much
Just keeping grades up to date with students

really good course.
At the end of the semester, you should show more of the DVD. You could also upload a spreadsheet with grades/points to keep students informed at all times about their current situation (using ID #s for secrecy).
Maybe Dr. Prins could give students different ways of grouping muscles. Location, action, and names possibly. Every student learns differently and sometimes the way taught in class was not how I learned them best.
n/a
To improve this course I think their should be some better way that students could be helped to better prepare for the exams. There is simply to much information to retain everything taught in lecture.
I felt like I learned the most and could demonstrate that new material the best when I associated the names and actions via pictures. More exam/quiz questions like that would be great.
I don't believe this course can be improved.
I would enjoy the neck and back muscles taught together. Slow down on the slides for those taking notes with pen and paper.

Hahahaha, I love/hate when administering quizes, you comment about how easy a question should be and I have no idea what the answer is. Keep it up!
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and Dr. Prins' way of teaching. Everything was very concise and it was all memorization, so your success in this class is all based on how much you repeatedly test yourself and put in the time to memorize the material.

I have never enjoyed a professor more than Dr. Jan Prins. Working with him in and out of the classroom has been a pleasure and i regret that i will not have any other courses with him. He explains the material very clearly and gives opportunities for you to improve yourself in and out of the class.
Great teacher, great class. Challenging but worth it. Really learned the material well.
I was terrified of this class at first, but it has become one of my favorite and most challenging classes. If it wasn't for the attitude Dr. Prins took towards this class I probably would have hated it. It's nice to have a professor who seems to genuinely enjoy his job.
i appreciate your approach and teaching attitude. your inclusion of stories, tidbits of experience allowed for connections with the material, and made concepts easier to understand and remember. I enjoyed having you as a teacher. I feel that your class was fair, your exams were fair, and that you were fair as a teacher. this is not said about many teachers.
I enjoyed Mr. Prin's teaching style and humor. He is always available for questions and expects you to know your stuff. Mahalo nui loa for a great experience and knowledge:)

Its straightforward
Practical application of physics to body movements.
I really appreciate how prepared for class Dr. Prins is. He is experienced and knows so much information about his field. His presentation of lectures are very smooth and gives us time to ask questions. After exams, we would go over them as a class and after class he gives us time to come and receive more points if students felt they were marked wrongly.

The PowerPoint slides were very informative. The practice problems posted online were also really helpful. Extra credit is always positive.
all the concepts that we learned in this class were all valuable, Dr Prins made sure that everything that we learned was tied into the concept of biomechaics
The power points were very insightful
Prins teaching methods were fabulous & helpful to understand book material.
Quizes and exams
The connection made between physics and anatomy.
Dr. Prins has knowledge in this field rather than basic course knowledge.
All were valuable because they tied into real life situations
Learning the biomechanics to help athletes perform better
I really liked how Dr. Prins allowed us to talk to him after we take our quiz to argue our points on our quiz. It really allowed us to test how much we knew about the material. I also liked how he provided us with a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I believe the knowledge of knowing how your body works when just doing simple tasks were important. I also enjoyed how he relates the material to scenarios that are commonly known.
The experience of Dr. Prins and his knowledge. He shows a lot of knowledge and is able to teach the material very effectively.
Dr. Prins was able to explain concepts very well.
applications to sport and health care
learning about gait
incorporation of real life examples makes the material easier to understand
The applications within various sports of the material helped to understand it better and kept it interesting.
Just learning the concepts of biomechanics that relate to our everyday lives was interesting.

Make the quiz questions more concrete and leave less room for confusion on what kind of answer he wants
I think that he could not make it so much of just a lecture class. There were times where the class got boring because he just lectured straight from the slides.
He can improve this class by offering more opportunities for students to earn points. Higher extra credit points allow students to push themselves and work harder into passing the class.
The course is fine the way it is.

although the course was pretty rigorous, maybe more practical demonstration or labs can be added. The time of the class kind of affected one's performance on an exam. Overall, I think Dr. Prince is a great professor.

I thought it was fine
Maybe not be so early in the morning. There were times were there were hardly anyone in class. It is just very difficult for students to get up so early for a class, considering that they have other classes to worry about as well.
This course can be improved by splitting up the information. Too much too learn in a short amount of time is overwhelming.
The course is fine the way it is taught now.

One of the most useful courses I have ever taken. It's physics, yes, but physics that exercise science people can use!
Challenging course! Very interesting though and Dr. Prins makes it fun. Brush up on those math skills and look at those physics notes that are collecting dust cause you'll need them to take this course!
I like that every so often he tells us how many more points we are able to get from the quizzes and exams that are left to take. He tells us we can come up to him and ask how we're doing in class, how many more points we need to pass etc. If you feel you were marked wrongly on a quiz, he would explain to you why it was wrong, but if he sees why you were confused, he makes you explain why you wrote the answer and if it satisfies Dr. Prins question and he deems you have knowledge in the subject, he would give you credit. He treated all students fairly, showed absolutely no favoritism, and gave us all an equal opportunity to earn points.

I really enjoyed Biomechanics!
The exams came straight from the material taught in class; so as long as students have good attendance and are engaged, they will do ok.
I would recommend this course to someone who wants to take a biomechanics class.

The knowledge of the course in general was very valuable and it all can be applied to everyday situations.
every aspect of the course was valuable, enjoyable anatomy/structural kinesiology class.
lectures were very helpful as well as the power points
PowerPoints
I thought going through each muscle and its components one by one helped out a lot. Study guides were also very helpful as well.
This course is JAM PACKED with information but all useful and needed for a kinesiology major
Learning about movements of the muscles, taking quizzes that applied to our learning skills and having open labs to look at the models and apply our knowledge.
He was very in depth and very knowledgeable which helped me and other students stay motivated and learn the material, and all of this information all of us can use later.
Everything!
The lab really helped when it came to studying for the exams. It was nice to see the models that would be used for the test.
Understanding how course concepts would relate to real life situations.
Lab portion of exam
this class is the base of knowledge needed for KRS and Dr. Prins presents the information in a mannor that is effect to learning the material.
Memorization techniques and learning good study habits.
Knowing what was expected of us was valuable. He was clear on what we needed to study we had all the tools and having the book helped. If you studied his lectures and the book you definitely would do well
Professor Prins teaching style made it very easy to understand which helped a lot to remember what I was thought.
Dr Prins teaching methods allowed me to learn at my best capability. all the material covered was easily learnable and the curriculum was challenging as well
Everything
I felt that the overall material was very important because we learned about the different muscles, bones, and their functions which is a very helpful because this is a good preparation for me since I want to become a physical therapist someday.
The most valuable aspects of this course were the side stories that made the material easier to relate to. The examples whether they were experienced by the professor or another person made the topics covered interesting and fun to learn.
All of it since it all pertains to my major.
muscle groups
Power points and Lab sections were helpful for studying
Labs before exams
The lab time.
learning the required information for future classes.
learning about the muscles of the body
Professor Prins demonstrated his knowledge and made it relatable through personal stories to make the story stick. I felt that was the most valuable, as it can be difficult to remember such bulky information but through personal stories, memorization was not as difficult.
Everything
The teacher telling us exactly what he wanted us to say about muscle origin and insertions
Explanation of lecture slides and letting us know exactly what he expected from the class.

he does a great job
overall I feel that Jan Prins has been doing an excellent job in teaching this course. He is a great teacher.

Don't assign the book since most of the slides are on the exam and the book doesn't say the same things sometimes.
I would suggest that for at least some of the muscles, it would've helped if during the lecture he could use the models to show where they are exactly.
He is a little hard to understand sometimes and talks a little fast
Continue doing what he is doing.
I can't think of anything he can improve on, he is a great professor and is always prepared and always thinks of his students first.
Maybe give out homework assignments that would count towards our final grade to help boost it up.
Spread out the amount of material over the semester. Nice to have a shorter final, but second midterm had an extreme amount of material

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I think this course is great as is.
upload all lectures at the beginning of the semester
I would have more videos to give a visual function of how each muscle works and so forth.
This course is a lot of information crammed into one semester. The exams are a little difficult because there is so much material
The course was very helpful and fun to learn about. Nothing to really improve.
Well I think this course has very little improvement. He does so well in organizing his slides, making them understandable and clear, and he makes learning all the anatomy about the human body fun. He teaches a very awesome class.
There's nothing. It's a very good course to prepare you in the future.
I think that a curve would be very helpful, because this class is very hard and there is a lot of material. I also think that this class could be more interactive. We should have more lab days and be able to play with the models during lectures so we could get a better perspective of where they are and how they work.
I really dont think it can be improved, i think its taught at the perfect level. It definitely isnʻt a class that you can slack around in and it really tests your knowledge of the material.
no comment. fair course
More supplemental material?
We did not use the textbook very much, and there were things in the text book that Prins said were wrong or not correct. The book was a waste of money.

It's not really for the course, but students should show respect by showing up to class. JPrins knows his information and wants to share everything he knows about the human body's muscles and bones and how it works. Like he said, "you should be fired up about your body" and should be more inclined to show up to learn about your body and how it works!
Nothing. The material is just very hard and you have to study hard to get a good grade.

None.
If coffee is not allowed, please allow water in acceptable containers. Class was early, which made it difficult to concentrate while dehydrated.
I would suggest Professor Prins to any student that wants to learn about bones and muscles.
This class was very informative and Dr. Prins was a good professor. Even know this class was hard, Dr. Prins really knows his stuff and he made it easier for us with his power points. They were pretty straight forward and there were a lot of images which were extremely helpful.
I think this is definitely a great course, but it will be a challenging course for those who arenʻt great at memorization. It will take a great deal of time and practice to remember all the structures and their spelling. I think it would be a bit easier for someone who is good at memorization, but overall a great course.

He is very organized and very prepared for class. He knows his field and if you are not understanding he would gladly explain to you. He is always very quick to respond when you email him. 10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
It helped being able to use cheat sheets for the first test. It would be near impossible to do well on that test if we were not allowed to use cheat sheets. A lot of real life examples were of great value in order to understand the material well.
Dr. Prins does a great job of giving students real life applications of ideas introduced in class. It is much easier to learn something if you understand how that idea is applied in real life.
prins is able to present examples that back up his points. He does so by either showing a video that explains the lecture or by acting it out himself. Both are effective forms of teaching.
The lectures were highly valueble to me. I thought Dr. Prins made me actively think about the material presented during lecture. There was the oppurtunity for questions/clarifications and discussions during lecture, which I valued a lot. Also the information was presented related to practical real life things, which helped with the better understanding.
The lectures were priceless! DR. Prins is very well spoken in biomechanics and does an exceptional job articulating ideas and concepts through the use of power points and lectures. The stories of Dr. Prins told were filled with humor and lessons.
The applicable information
It's hard to pinpoint. The whole topic of Sports Biomechanics is valuable. I'm very much happy with the course outline, stucture and content that Dr. Prins layed out.
The insight given by Dr. Prins on real life scenarios truly helped the class understand the content in a real world application setting.

Gait cycle, trigonometry, physics,
I really enjoyed Dr. Prins way of teaching. I liked how he used personal stories and examples to allow us to gain a better understanding of the concepts. I also enjoyed that he spent the time to review the homework worksheets in class.
The lectures
The quizzes each week.
Being able to learn the physics and how the human body functions was the most valuable aspect in this course. This class made it very useful for my future career and everyday life.
..
The lecture and actually listening to what Dr. Prins was teaching us was most valuable. You'll learn how to apply what you learn to sports and other aspects of movement in daily life.
Applying mathematical calculations to actual anatomy and daily things we do
The powerpoints.
The knowledge that you get from this class is the met valueble.
For me I learned a lot about from the lectures about running on tracks, grass, and artificial turf.
The practical and clinical applications of the course material.
This course was extremely informative and I learned alot of information throughout its duration. I loved how Dr. Prins went through and explained thorougly every single powerpoint, and he gave visual and demonstrative examples.
The real-life applications.
The aspects that were most valuable were comparing all the terminology and scenarios into sports situations. it was easy to imagine and understand the material when it was put into another context.
Basically everything about the biomechanics of the human body. I first came into this class without knowing nothing about the movements of the human body but after taking this semester, Professor Prins enlightened me so much about the biomechanics of the human body. With this knowledge, I will use this as a guide to succeeding my career pathway as a Physical Therapist.
Dr. Prins is extremely knowledgable about this subject that he makes this class so enjoyable.
The lectures were very specific and to the point which were helpful study tools for exams and quizzes
This course really challenged me but overall has been one of my favorites
Lectures went over exactly what we needed to know for quizzes and tests.
Biomechanics
Dr. Prins' PowerPoints were awesome, very detailed and clear. His overall enthusiasm about the course in all his classes is such a huge benefit for his student to have.
The labs that we went to taught us how the information we learned is applied in life.
The discussion of practical application of the knowledge that was obtained throughout the course.
I felt that all the information taught was valuable because it can be used in my field of study as well as in my everyday life.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
It would be difficult at times to keep up with the pace of the class because we would zip through the slides at a fast pace. A great deal of dedication was needed in our part for us to do well on the quizes because just coming to class was not enough to understand the material.
I'd leave Dr. Prins class the way it is. You do a good job staying up to date and use good judgement in how you tweak each class.
Putting so many questions in slides and adressing thoughs questions but without definate answers.
The lecture/reviews for calculations of the trig problems were least valueble for me. This was probably hihgly valuebale for people with basic math understanding.
I enjoyed all aspects of the course.

The large amount of powerpoint slides that were unused but still presented in the lecture sides. It was helpful to have Dr. Prins go through and color the relevent slides a different color so there was a more narrow spectrum to study.

I don't know if there was a least valuable aspect of the course. Dr. Prins' has the lesson plan for the day and for the year mapped out and we stay on schedule 99% of the time. He manages his time well during class and also manages the overall semester quite well.
Certain information that wasn't taught from the presentation slides were not necessary for the class.
Some of the Powerpoints were a bit drawn out.
I felt that the midst of the course was valuable

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
It would help the students if he could slow down the pace of the class. More time for each question on the quizes wold also help. More jokes and crude humor would also make the class even more fun, although there already is a good amount.
As said above, I wouldn't change anything about the class. Dr. Prins shows good understanding and judgement in changing the class according to our specific needs.
Honestly Prins is one of the most versatile professors I have ever had as he has taught about four of my classes now. He cuts the fat on lectures and highlights main points. He provides many forms of teaching a lesson through quizzes, projects, HW assignments, exams and extra credit. i appreciate the extra credit because I study for all his test and quizzes with great effort but over look certain points at times. The extra credit allows room for error as we are all human and need a break once in awhile.
Communicate more effectively about the quizzes, and the material/lectures that will be quizzed on. Sometimes this created some confusion.
More time on quizzes. If I had five minutes or so more on each quiz I believe I could have did better with more time to think things through.
Sometimes the lectures can be confusing.
He's a great professor already.

NA
There are too many slides and some of them were hard to understand the concepts.
Nothing. HEs serious with a good sense of humor.
I think Dr. Prins has teaching mastered. He is one of the best professors I have had throughout my college career. He is an extremely intelligent man who makes learning fun. Biomechanics is not an easy subject, but he finds a way to make it easier to understand.
I would like it if we had more activities rather than sitting and discussing the functions of the human body.
Exam questions are worded vaguely and specific answers are expected.
Dr. Prins could improve this course by going over the absolutely most important info that we need to know. Although he did go over everything that we needed to know for his tests, it would be nice to focus on the most important information so that everyone fully understands the info.
Nothing I can think of. There is a lot of content to digest but he got the class through it in the smoothest fashion.
He is a great teacher. Nothing to improve on.
Change the quiz format. Make it a hard copy format, and not power point style.
Less powerpoint lectures and more practical lectures to supplement the material learned
Dr. Jan Prins can improve the teaching of this course by giving students more time to study before a quiz. Sometimes we were notified only a day or two in advanced if extra chapters were added onto a quiz.
Include animated visuals or video demonstrations in addition to pictures to describe concepts.
Some of the material gets to be confusing, maybe slowing down so everyone can grasp the material better
Honestly, there really is nothing Professor Prins have to improve his teachings of this course. Just that sometimes, he goes over his materials a little too fast.
Maybe have more visuals in slides
N/A
The quizes were very challenging. Try to give more time for each question
Keep doing what he does. He is the best teacher I have ever had.
I have no suggestions for improvement because Dr. Prins is by far one of the best, if not the best instructor because I have learned so much from him.
This is a question I have to answer semester after semester concerning Dr. Prins' class. Semester after semester i always say, nothing. He conveys the content to his students very well, his quizzes and exams are very passable if you attend class and study. He is a great professor and a great person and itâ??s a joy to be his student.
Though it the student's responsibility to show up for class, mandatory attendance would further encourage students to attend each lecture.
Possibly give more real life examples of the concepts that he discusses.
I feel that Dr. Prins already has a great way of teaching the course content.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Labs that would physically show the class the concepts of biomechanics would help everyone get a good grasp on the material. It would also help the class as a whole interact with each other. There is a limited amount of days & time for this class so it may be a bit difficult to fit this in the course. Videos would also help, such as showing a sprinter run a 100m sprint while breaking down the runner's mechanics that allows him to maximize his performance.
Same as above. Its the teacher's class, Dr. Prins runs it his way but always keeps his students' best interests in mind.
Needs cheaper books, Its a good thing that Prins has great Slides!
By including more material from the book.
Lecture in a better classroom.
It's fine the way it is.

NA
Dr. Prins could possibly give us some more opportunities to practice mathematical problems, such as uploading more practice worksheets on laulima. Other than that, I have no other recommendations.
This course could improve by doing more hands on activities. I am a visual learner so demonstrating examples is a big plus for me.
.
I think this course could be improved by having some type of weekly lab where the students try to apply the material that was taught during the week with real situations and interactions between the students. This may not be able to be applied with this course because there are only two classes a week and time is very limited, but I believe that it would help every student learn and understand the material a lot better.
If there was a way to slow down on the content taught, that would be nice. I understand the teacher is responsible to get us through certain content, but at times there was so much info and so little time. Exams were pretty tough as there are a lot of pictures and explanations to write out. Some pictures or movements were not covered in class or the text book.
None
The way quizzes are given was not conducive to my learning style. I felt rushed while doing the quizzes. Make quizzes a hard copy format, change the way it is currently done.
There is not much to be improved. Only the lecture types. Everything is okay
This course could be improved by having more class time to go over what is on the upcoming exams. It would benefit students for Dr. Prins to go over a few tougher concepts again before the test, or to hint to study these extra hard.
Mention more of the biomechanics behind injuries.
I think this class could be improved by spending a little more time on the chapters. This is a great course but can be complex at times but with a little more time spent to fully understand the material
Nothing really needs to be improved. Professor Prins explains everything so well.
quizzes were ok, but sometimes there was a lot of content to cover for one quiz
Either shorten the quizes or allow for more time
Dr. Prins could have given us more quizzes. He could give us more homework also just for more practice.
I would've loved to see more of a hands on approach.
The students have the power points so studying is there responsibility. Dr. Prins is a fair grader and also gives you the opportunity to convince him to get partial credit for wrong answers if you explain to him your reasoning and your reasoning is right. His lectures are interesting and he keeps them relevant to current events and sports. And when he tells jokes, they are hilarious just because you can see him enjoying himself and you cant help but laugh with him. Heâ??s a great person, great professor, and I was lucky to have him semester after semester. He is the best professor I have had at the University of Hawaii. Thank you Dr. Prins.
Dr. Prins could remove the unnecessary slides from the presentations to avoid confusion.
Nothing more than i have already said.
It could be improved by having a little more extra credit opportunities probably other than that it is a good course.
30. Other comments:
This class was a challenge and I have definitely learned a lot. I am now always applying concepts from biomechanics to everyday activities, such as during my lifts at the gym.
Thank you for another great semester Dr. Prins.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. Easily one of my favorite professors and definitely one of the most valuable classes. Mahalo nui loa!
Dr. Prins is a privilege to have as a professor. Hope I will run into him in the furture.
Great class!

It was hard for me to grasp the information. Sometimes the materials were being taught too fast. The teaching style is too vague, I had to refer or listen back to old lectures in order to get the concepts down. The details for each lecture were not fully explained. I feel that I did not learn much in this class. However, Dr. Prins had always been a good teacher and I know that he has full knowledge of his materials.
Dr. Prins is a wonderful professor! Keep up the awesome work!
.
This class is probably the hardest class taught by Dr. Prins, and in order to do good in this class, keeping up with the weekly material is a must. If I had the time to take this class again, I would because the material is very interesting and knowing some of the material will put you at an advantage in some sports.
Nothing, great experience and hope to carry this knowledge obtained in the future.
Thank you Dr. Prins for an excellent semester!
None.
Dr. Prins is very funny had stories he would tell the class that was related to the material. His stories made going to class worth it. His style of lecturing made class fun and more interesting. I rated this course good because it involves a lot of math which I am not good at.

Dr. Prins was an extremely challenging, yet educational teacher. I really appreciate all the knowledge I have learned in his class and really enjoyed the class.
Share the book. I didn't use it much. Only as a reference when I didn't understand a topic.
This is my third course with Dr. Prins and he is definitely, my favorite teacher I've had hear and UHM
Dr. Prins was the best teacher I have had while at UH Manoa.
Tough course, but is worth it. I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge.
Throughly enjoyed this course! Dr. Prins is an excellent professor and I would recommend taking him to anyone!
I enjoy the courses I take from Dr. Prins. He shows a passion and strong knowledge for the subject material.
Keep it up! :)

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Dr. Prins gave us advice on how to take care of our bodies in a responsible way and making smart choices as well. His main objective was to make sure his students will learn more about musculoskeletal system in order to be prepared for the more challenging courses in the future.
Being allowed notes.
The lectures and stories that accompanied those lectures really help better understand the course material.
Every information is crucial for proceeding on academically in the KRS major.
having the power points grouped together makes the material easier to understand. notes were also a big bonus for the course.
the knowledge of where each of the muscles in the body are and their actions they are responsible for
I liked the fact that he had taught us new things about the human body but not only was he teaching us what the book was about, he also had given real life experiences and situations to intrigue me more into the class.
I liked the real life experiences and examples for the material.
the structural use of muscles
This class has a lot of information, but Dr Prins uses great real-life examples to make it easy to understand. We move at a fast pace (because it is summer), but he gives a lot of opportunities for bonus points- which is great!
the quizes every other week really helped me to not slack off in this class.
I enjoyed that with the material that we were learning, Dr. Prins very often related the topics to clinically. It really helped me get a better understanding of "why" and "how."
In-class lectures and labs provided a large amount on information included on powerpoint presentations and experiences from the instructor.
Good power points and well designed course
The amount of time in the lab we were given, as well as the depth of the power-points which we studied from
The course was done at a fast pace so it was good to have the option to use our study guides on exams.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
N/A
Just the length of time of the course and how fast it was. Of course it cannot be helped.
The lab manual which I did not purchase.
none
overall i thought the course was well organized and had the information in a well put put together manner.
none
I really think that this course is a very interesting class and could only be helpful to everyone in learning more about the body. Learning about how the human body is probably one of the most important things that you should know within your own lifetime. However I still do not believe that the P.E Majors should be required to take this class because even though that it would be seen that P.E teachers have more credibility now that we also take anatomy, I dont find it helpful in making them more effective educators.
material is went through really fast
Buying the text book.
The textbook is not completely necessary
As it was the summer, we had less time to study before each quiz and exam, but that comes with the accelerated nature of summer courses.
Although labs are important to see what we are learning, I didn't think that it was necessary to have a class and half of time for just lab work.

The tests were very challenging and really made you think and I've never enjoyed taking a test so much before. But I always ran till the end of the period for my test. Maybe a little bit more time for exams.
I don't believe this course needs to be improved. Just the students need to be prepared for a lot of information in a short period of time.
less slides, have regular semesters be treated the same as summer semesters
Considering this is a summer class, this course was taught very well

Thank you for taking the time out of your summer to teach us! I really appreciate it! and also for the motivation for me to study harder because this class is not a breeze at all.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this class. I wished I could have taken it during the semester just so I could spend more time learning and asking questions from Dr. Prins. One of my favorite teachers thus far going into my senior year at UH. I only wish I could take 353 all over again just to hear the lectures and stories once again. A great class taught by an excellent professor! Dr. Prins has so much to offer UH and the KRS students and department. Thank you for the knowledge and standards set in class. Aloha!
Great summer session!!!
Dr. Prins was very knowledgable in this subject AND also knew how to TEACH the subject and keep the student's INTRIGUED in the material, which is one thing that I admire. Because some professors at UHM are very knowledgable about the subjects that they teach, however are unable to TEACH it and ENGAGE their students, keeping them wanting to learn more. I enjoyed taking this course even if their was limited time being that it was taught in the summer and not in the regular school session. I hope others will enjoy this course!
I appreciated the effeciency of this class. We learned a lot in the 6 weeks we had.

8. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Developing study habits.
The powerpoints were great and very informative and him posting past exams helped me get a feel of how the tests were going to be structured.
Dr. Prins' thorough knowledge of the material, his ability to relay it to the students, and his class structure that forces one to learn the material.
Weekly quizzes
The practical applications
giving the power points ahead of time and being able to take notes as he taught the material was really helpful.
Drilling the origins and insertions of all muscles. Very useful information
Learning the entire human anatomy of the Muscle, Skeletal and Nervous systems.
having a better understanding of how the muscles in the body work. where they are, what their action, and functions are
His knowledge is what I valued most. If the content or information we were given was inaccurate he told us and told us why. He was able to back it up.
The personal/ life stories that he has told us while teaching related subjects helped me understand the material more.
The foundational knowledge of the anatomical structure. And of course some of his personal add-ins and biomechanic info.
powerpoints
I liked how he provided us with lots of opportunities to come into the lab and look at models and ask for help.
applications of concepts to everyday life/activities.
I enjoyed all of the detailed powerpoints and thorough review when going through them. Also, Dr. Prins was very open to any questions or concerns.
The powerpoints helped a lot to identify all the difficult and smaller muscles and boney land marks.
everything

No comment except for the fact that it was a lot of information hat needed to be memorized and getting the. Information from Jan print was very hard to grasp and basically needed to learn moat of the information on your own. Very wordy powerpoint slides hat were just being read., which we as students could have done on our own. Not a very effective teaching technique. Very boring and hard to follow at such a quick pace.
Worksheets given prior to exam to help study material.
Lab sessions.
Dr. Prins experience and adapting it to the course material
quizzes throughout to help know the material
I think the basic information is critical for a KRS major in order to succeed and comprehend other material

Probably the superfluous amount of ppt slides.
The amount of slides that were on each powerpoint. Got overwhelming when we had to study.
too much to memorize in short time

Lectures. Lectures were to quick and slides were read word for word with no added information. Lab reviews did not have adequate information on what needed to be learned and memorized.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think there is little he could do to improve the course, its very good as is.
I wouldn't know
Let us know from a pool of picture which ones we need to know. There were a lot of muscles to memorize.
More labs and examples. Powerpoints are harder to learn from than say movements of the muscles involved
More organized lecture slides.
I didn't see anything wrong with his teaching methods. Everything he said about the material was straight forward.
I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you anything. He was one of the best professors I've ever had. I loved his course and can't wait to have him again.
Don't read off powerpoint. Try to have hands on learning when trying to have students understand the material. Instead of just showing us why a certain thing happens this way have students experience on their own. Ask them to stand up and try it themselves.
Maybe limiting the amount of slides in each powerpoint to the one's that are actually stressed for the clas.
have a different classroom, too noisy and hot next to the swimming pool
Have less lecture type of classes and more hands on learning to help the students that dont really learn well by just listening.
Clearer tests
i dont see anyway he can improve. Hes a great teacher and has my deepest respect.
It would be nice if he physically pointed out the origin and insertions on the muscle diagrams. Powerpoints were too long too much material to memorize
Have study guides other than previous exams
Creativity of teaching lessons so that students are more engaged and interested in learning he material instead of him reading each slide which we as students can do on our own. Maybe a better teaching approach or strategy to help students that are different types of Learners. Maybe more visuals and or hands on type of learning would help the students be more engaged in the subject.
Perhaps use more videos to make material relevant to outside the class or to simply aid the retaining of the information. Slightly longer breaks. Perhaps some classes include a little bit of lab instruction.
N/A
hands on lessons
Having a broad mind set when it comes to expelling and grading ideas from the students.
Sometimes he goes over the materials so fast, maybe go a little slower.
Improve powerpoints
Sometimes He goes over the material a little too fast. But He allows us to record his lecture so that helps because if he was going took fast in one area you can re listen to the lecture and catch it the second time. Also he is always willing to go over it with you after class if you have any further questions. I wish that the student version & teacher version of the lecture power point presentations were more similar. Maybe more fill in the blank slides, to make sure the students are actually paying attention in class not just phasing out in class.
Needs major reconstruction-new teaching styles, instructor, everything about the course needs improvement-testes only on memory
He doesn't use laulima which i think would have made tracking grades much easier.
