10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
understanding the mechanism of the body
Knowing how to effectively exercise the muscles of the body knowing where the muscles originate and insert we're very valuable to me.
Dr. Prins' demonstrations of movement and examples in real life.
Relating things to real life
This course is well structured and content dense.
Personal life experience of Professor prins and how we can apply what we learned to daily life.
Every little bit of aspect in this course is valuable. I believe that every information is useful, in class, in and outside my major, and in life.
Learning which muscles are used in different actions and the names of the motions for each body part.
The class really tests your knowledge on material, rather than guessing on a multiple choice test.
The lab days where we could see the actual models of the bones and muscles
This course teaches a lot about the muscles and their functions. Bodies are amazing organisms that cease to adapt. This course is invaluable
understanding origin and insertion of specific muscles
The labs are very helpful for preparation of the exams.
The every day application of what we learned.
Every day examples and stories/pictures to help remember content.
everything
The quizzes.
I learned a lot about the human body.
Everything that was taught was valuable
The lab portion.
Class lectures
Everything. Prins taught clearly and efficiently
I like all the examples that he gives during the class, or the fact that he demonstrates them in class. I think as a kinesiology major we are all kinesthetic learnings and visuals really help.
I liked his powerpoints and how he explained each one.
its the language of my major, invaluble
Having the quizzes and test be all fill in the blank made me understand the material rather than memorizing anatomy.
The power points were very helpful and I felt like I could ask Dr. Prins any questioned he would know the answer.
The lecture was great
The labs
relating the class to real life events made it interesting, I enjoyed how he showed us related pictures and videos and gave personal stories in class.
Lab times were useful and interesting stories and examples

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
allow students to interact with models throughout the course instead of a few days before an exam
Dr. Prins teaches the course very well.
Nothing
The use of a bad power point presentation on a bad power point so it may be hard to see.
He does really well. He is straight forward and clear. He is always prepared, and he is very knowledgeable. He doesn't have a monotone, so that helps a lot! He's a great man! He really cares for his students. He is tough, but fair and understanding. The lab aids with the learning greatly. He is approachable and professional.
Perhaps using the models during lecture would help with identification.
Just have a more engaging lab, and I think the class would be great.
Maybe schedule quizzes on the syllabus instead of just a week ahead
N/A
More extra credit!
He cannot
no suggestions
Prins could speak louder during lecture.
Great teacher but sometimes goes a little fast so if you are a slow learner you have to make sure you keep up.
No need for improvement.
Nothing, he's wonderful
I think he does a good job now. He gives you every tool you need to succeed in his class.
Speak a little slower and clearer and maybe go over the bones and muscles in class using actual bones while presenting his powerpoint.
Possibly find a better room for lectures.
break down the student lecture slides too much for eyes
Helping us prepare for his quizzes and test better than he does.
He could slow down on the powerpoint just a bit and maybe only add the information that we need to know and not all of the extra information.
Slow down in lecture
It would be nice to go through things slower but I understand there are only so many weeks in the semester
this course was good
Allow 1 or 2 make up quizzes.

All is well, but more labs would be appreciated.
Pointing out the muscles/bones on the models.
More lab days to prepare for the exams
N/A
I like how this class challenges me intellectually but I feel that there is so much material that needs to be absorbed per quiz/exam that more extra credit opportunities (such as student learning projects) would benefit the students grades and their outside knowledge of the course material. (:
There is a lot of material covered. Maybe cut it down a little bit.
Prins is an excellent professor and very trusting. There were more than one instance where people would whisper during the lab section of the exams and ask friends for answers. I would expect a higher level of honesty between students to not cheat on exams. I'm not sure how he could fix, but feel he should be aware. Thank you Prins for one of my favorite KRS class so far!
no suggestions
Ths course could be improved if there was a seperate lab class.
I am not the best speller so having a word bank on the test would be really helpful to me. A lot of the time I had the right word but spelled it wrong and got marked down for it.
No need for improvement.
Nothing
I believe that the class is fair and it is up to the student if they want to succeed.
This course can be improved by having the students form study groups and learning off of each other. Also, there is so much material for the second exam, so maybe breaking it up into 4 exams would be more beneficial.
it the amount of information presented is the required minimum may i suggest to make this class into two classes, amount of information is too much for one semester and requires more than 3 credit hours of time.
Helping prepare for a course of fill in the blank.
We could have more interactions with the models.
The course is very fast so you have to stay on top of everything. So maybe just slow it down but it's all self discipline mostly
i felt that this class is good how it is, i can't think of any changes to improve it.
Learning muscles through massages.
30. Other comments:
I enjoyed having Dr. Prins as my professor. Teachers like him are very rare and feel honored to have him as my teacher.
Dr Prins knows his stuff and is an excellent conveyer of his knowledge about kinesiology. He made me think about the material for each test, and was more than fair in his grading.
none
I really like the class. I just wish I had more time to put into it so that I could have done well. The course itself is interesting, but there are a lot of information covered. Therefore, great study time is essential for learning. I really wish I had more time to study, and to talk to Prof Prins. He's a great man, and I definitely want to learn more from him.
I love the real life stories that Dr. Prins tells in class!

Learning the biomechanics of the body as it relates to Kinesiology
Applications of strength training to my field of major
powerpoints and practice sheets
Most valuable to me was the examples of the concepts taught in relation to sports and visually seeing it in class.

I enjoyed the practicality of the information that I have learned.
learning the movements and forces of the body. Dr. Prins gives you everything you need to know for his exams no fluff like some others cough! Merritt!
the clinical applications and other applications
Dr. Prins is very understanding and thorough in all of his lectures, quizzes and exams
biomechanics
Professor Prins is good about helping his students fully understand the material and is there to answer any questions if you don't understand a concept.
Information about gym stuff like workouts and proper form.
First introduction to bio mechanics so it was interesting in terms of my major.
The knowledge that Dr. Prins shares on a daily basis.
Prins knowledge of the subject.
Dr. Prins expects a level of reciprocation of work and performance that parallels with his teaching, and that leads to an advancement of knowledge and learning. Additionally, because the tests were mostly short answer or fill in the blanks, Dr. Prins is requiring his students to think!
Learning how the body moves, and the most efficient way to move the body
I really liked that a textbook was not necessary to still learn everything we needed to know
things that were valuable from this course was the things that i could take to the gym and apply to.
I enjoyed the application of the trigonometry I learned from Pre-calc as well as physics to the sports/clinical setting. It also gave me a new way of looking at different motions from linear kinematics to moment arms.
The real world practicality and applicability of the material.
It was nice that he presented examples of real life scenarios
having some of the course materials relate to physics

Besides the swim team noise nothing the man is on point
i think some interactive activities might be useful

Not have class at same time as swim practice.
I think his teaching styles are fair.
Ensure that it is not taught early in the morning (730am) ahaha!
Honestly, i really enjoyed this class and don't see any way it can be improved
have more practice problems to do with what were going to be tested on
Include more ways for students to practice using the equations that are given in class.
I think he's doing a good job in teaching the course
Maybe do a little more hands on labs?

Have it later in the day and different classroom.
Not make it so early in the morning and have more professors teaching the course with a TA for help
by having the class start later in the day
Having the swim practice and construction but both are unvoidable
i don't see many improvements that could be made, aside from the possibility of adding interactive activities
An actual textbook for the course or reference text may be helpful.
talk louder; get a mic & set speakers; close the windows and doors & get a fan if its too hot
Maybe open more than one course for the semester. There was only one section for biomechanics this semester at 730 in the morning which is too early for me.
more current research, examples and pictures.
Course could be improved by including a few resources online or videos that students can look at home if they're having trouble since we don't use a text. Sometimes the quizzes are on a large number of slides so had a hard time differentiated what info was more important to remember for a quiz so maybe chapter quizzes or one quiz for the lectures with a lot of material.

I don't think anything should be changed.
Include a math credit because we go over a lot of math.
I honestly can not think of any way to improve this course
more live examples of things that are being reviewed in class
More lab time.
I think that the pace that Dr. Prins was going at, went well with the course and how the lessons were spread out
im not to sure if anything in this course can be improved because Dr. Prins is a really knowledgable professor and he knows his materials like the back of his hand. but it i was to choose something, it would be to have a little more hands on work.

Very good professor; really knows his stuff to the T!
I enjoy this style of teaching., Critical questions of practical situation in sports or other athletic acitivites helps me re-enforce my understanding of the material.
Best instructor at UH hands down.
Dr. Prins is an excellent teacher that provides information that is very useful and applicable in the real world. He uses scientific basis to provide information that can be applied to many uses.

Dr. Prins wants to teach, not just spit out knowledge and hope that his students learn something. As a graduating senior, this kind and level of teaching motivates me to stay engaged in the course material and continue to attend/be a part of class.
this class is hard but if you put in the time and effort to learn, you'll do well. don't be afraid to ask Prins questions, he's really good about explaining things until you understand.
Dr Prince is an amazing professor and through this course I have learned a ton! I really find biomechanics interesting and may pursue a profession in it!
Have a great and enjoyable summer Dr. Prins :)

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I especially liked the classes where Dr. Prins taught the course. I also enjoyed the presentation aspect and feel that it's important information for us to know. Another valuable aspect was the 10 weeks of training.
Everything was very helpful.
Everything. They way Dr. Prins executes his knowledge is awesome.
Great course
The aspect that was most valuable is the course material given to us can be applied to the CSCS exam that we can take after we graduate for us to become certified Athletic Trainer
The practicum hours were helpful.
The lab, the lecture on stress, breaking down specific exercises
Understanding how the body works and how to teach and hot teach an individual that may be participating in physical therapy or athletic training.
The lab and being able to workout with Ross was very valuable.
Body movements and how it affects the body.
attending classes and labs, as well as listening to lectures
working with hawaii optimal performance in the practicums
Learning for the CSCS. Also learning about applied situations with the material
I enjoyed learning hands on with Ross and actually getting hands on experience. I learned a lot about different exercises and how to be able to apply them when designing my own strength and conditioning programming.
Practicum
The labs in the gym
Lectures that have connections and are relatable The supplemental teaching outside of class
periodization and program design with Kevin. Also being able to apply these principles at HOP.
Prins' lectures were always informative and could easily relate to the field and other classes/work we have done
I really enjoyed the lab sections of this course. Performing the exercises in class, and then going out to help out at practicum gave us hands on experience.
Labs and learning from an actual professional in the field of strength and conditioning
Dr. Prins immense wealth of knowledge.
Putting previous KRS squired knowledge to analyzing mechanics and presentations.
Dr. Prins is very engaging and able to provide the material at the same time. Kevin is funny and is able to teach the concepts of strength of conditioning with simplicity.
Volunteering at Hawaii Optimum Performance helped me in so many ways. How to speak to people, explain to people how to do different exercise, how to apply everything I've learned, etc.
All of the lectures and labs
The real world applicability and seeing what is taught in action during the labs.
Everything
The real world scenarios and application

I don't think going to HOPS once every week for 10 weeks really did anything to improve my learning. When we went it was basically just working out for an hour - we didn't learn to teach someone how to do any exercises or put together a workout program. I learned more from Kevin when he taught the lecture and labs.
None, they were all valuable.

I enjoyed all of it. Very informational. He does repeat some lectures and information he uses from another class but its always good to go over something again and I liked it.
N/a
nothing was least valuable.
Practicum hours. I did not learn anything there. My group always felt like an inconvenience and like we were more in the way than anything. I'm not sure what I did but it seemed like I was instantly on Rachel's bad side.
Doing multiple term reports. Finding a few apparatus was very valuable, but then after a while it became hard to find items our classmates had not already found and some of the apparatus seemed basically the same concept as they presented. Also, even though I really enjoy biomechanics, repeating the exact same lectures from 463, did start to get repetitive, realizing we had already learned and memorized this for our other class.
Not being able to drink water in class. Haha Dr. Prins :) LOL.
It was all good.

Get a better classroom. Lecture hall.
He already does a great job. Continue his lecture techniques.
Not possible
He teaches it exceptionally well. His material and lectures are straight to the point.
Make sure Kevin knows to give a standing/stretch break after 45-50 minutes of lecture - Those seats are hard!

Have classes later in the day for commuters especially.
don't need to, he already has improved this course to make it challenging and yet very educational for his students.
I think he is doing a fine job. He knows his stuff and the students respect him.
Speak louder/clearer
More lectures about periodization.
Update our grades for the term reports and presentations on Laulima. Even though he was very prompt about emailing us back, it would be nice to see everything outlined out in our Laulima gradebook.
He is the best teacher in the KRS department.
Dr. Prins was a lot more witty and sarcastic which made class really enjoyable this semester. Love him a lot!

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I didn't really care for the days when Kevin taught the course
A better classroom. Group discussions or presentations.
Apparently it was just recently changed, so its already improved with incorporating a lab/clinical portion and apparatus equipment research.
The course is fine the way it is. Don't change what works.
Be in another classroom due to loud noises that can be distracting. Be later in the day to encourage students that need to commute to come and learn effectively.
n/a
Maybe a little more focus on the actual program design aspect rather than the bio mechanics of movement.
This course is good as it is.
Better template of the course
Have more practical lectures on periodization and the strength and conditioning principles overall. I was the most interested in the how CSCS coaches design strength programs.
Practicum hours are not necessary. Also would be helpful if we went somewhere else for hours.
Because the title of this course is Program Design Strength and Conditioning, give us the chance to actually practice designing a program for someone based on the knowledge we learned. Give us less term reports on apparatus, finding one or two was very eye opening, but four reports for each person is a little repetitive. Lastly, for practicum maybe give us a chance to help out more or go to see other sessions, because going to the same session with the same clients and mainly just working out with them made us feel like just another regular client, instead of getting the most out of the experience in actually working in the field.
Record your lectures so that we can use them to review for the exams. Or condense the powerpoint slides so that the question and answer slide does not span 3 slides.
If the practicum is still required, maybe give the students the sets of workouts that HOPs goes through so they know what they should be coaching. Instead of just throwing them in the fire, and hope that the students act with the best intent. Provide them material so they know whats coming. Just like how you gave us the dynamic warm up/ lunge matrix. Do that, but for the workouts you guys provide at HOP.

More incentive to participate in lab activities.

Towards the beginning of the class, there could be more lab opportunities. Also the HOP portion could be orientated towards other professions rather than just personal trainers.
30. Other comments:
I would suggest as a KRS program, it would be awesome if this class had a requirement, or the program requirement, like required to be CPR certified by the time we graduate, to be NSCS certified personal trainers by the time we finish this course. That would make the program even more of an opportunity to find a goal in this class.
Great class just like the rest of his classes. Learned a lot from him. He is a valuable person to have in the KRS department. He seems to care about not just the subject but the students as well which always increases the positivity in the learning environment.
Thanks for everything Doctor Prins. I've learned a lot from having you as a professor.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
When he applied the topics to real situation because I thought the information he gave to us were very useful for our future career.
Lots of information on a variety of topics.
Dr Prins explains things very well. His teaching style is very helpful and he really wants his students to do well. I wish he taught PHYL 301/302
Integrating sports movements with what we learned. Mostly this was done in the text, although Dr. Prins gave us the answers to the text exercises. Some of it was discussed in lecture. I would like to see more application of the content of this class to sports and exercise done in lecture.
Organization, lots of information that will be useful in other classes
Dr. Prins is very clear and concise. His lectures are easy to follow and he is accommodating when it comes to rescheduling exams. He has been very helpful throughout the semester and it has been a pleasure learning from him.
His own insight and experience
I think learning the muscles and everything regarding the origin, insertion, action, and innervation was the most useful.
The content was relatable to everyday life and it was information that necessary and interesting for my major.
It was very applicable to life.
The knowledge related to musculoskeletal system.
Everything in this course was valuable!
We learn most in the lectures.
Very fast paced, so powerpoints and verbal lecture along with study guide sheets helped
lecture and the lab
The fairness of the tests and the applicability of the material.
Understanding how groups of muscles work relations to an action
I think having the power points during lecture and having a whole day to do the lab helps a lot... Not to mention 5 pages of notes during the exam!
the structural physiology and side information about topics.
How straightforward and to the point Dr. Prins was with all of the lectures and what he expected
Learning the actions of all the different muscles and how to apply them, also learning about different conditions and injuries
Movements of every area.
The material and practical applications
The labs were especially helpful in enabling me to visualize where the different muscles originated and inserted. It made understanding the material a lot easier.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

The class was not the best learning environment. No AC, loud construction, no water allowed. Sometimes made it hard to concentrate.

nothing, keep doing what you're doing.
I think that because I took it during the summer, it was accelerated and we went through a lot. But he did an excellent job at explaining the most important points.
The course was well taught, no improvement is needed
Possibly give more examples of which muscles are being activated in relation to sport or activity.
I think he taught this class pretty well for a fast paced summer course
I think its good as is
Go over some of the slides more slowly, give students time to take notes on them.
Using a mic would help a lot so that students in the back of the class can hear better.
I have no comment, I can imagine how hard this course is during the regular semester as more memorization is needed, but during the summer this course is more about being on top of your notes more than anything.
He can go over some of the slides such as the ones with origins and insertions that weren't in the student notes a little slower inorder for the students to be able to copy the correct notes. Also make sure he lets us know the answers to some of the questions he tells us to look up on our own, incase the answers we search for on the internet are arbitrary.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I think this course could be improved by applying the course material to real life situation more. Also, it can be improved by giving us more materials/information on each of the muscles.
The only downside was how much material was covered each day, but that's just how summer school works.
Different classroom.
As stated earlier, I'd like to see more application of the course material/content to sports exercises during lecture. Primarily this is done through the text assignments now.

I think that the summer course is very good. It takes into consideration of how much material is being covered while giving students reasonable amount of time to study and comprehend the general points.

He's a good, funny teacher. Gets straight to the point!
I love how Dr. Prins gives personal examples of certain situations to the muscles.
Dr. Prins is very helpful if you have any questions about the subject or if you're confused about anything
I enjoyed class and every thing that he teaches. He is awesome because I could understand what he is teaching. The slides were great.
Love your sense of humor and teaching, keep up the amazing work.
This class was good and interesting and is a good foundation for kinesiology.
Excellent class. Thank you very much Professor Prins. I learned a lot.

Everything.
The entire course!
The weekly quizzes truly help you to keep up with the material.
labs
I learned how to prepare for the exam by preparing for quizzes and tests
Literally everything
I had to really learn how to take notes and understand information. had to learn how to take the information dr prins gave us and apply to real life models and situations. 80% of the class was memorization but the hardest part was learning to apply.
a lot of anatomy i will need in future
Taking the whole semester to focus on body structures were valuable, because in comparison to physiology/anatomy, this class went at a slower pace to learn what needed to be learned. Whereas, the physio class breezed through the same information in a span on 2 weeks.
The course was very informative
The lectures were the most helpful and the power points being available to us were cry helpful .
has to actually learn the material and apply it to different situations
Dr. Prins is very knowledgable on the subject.
The lectures
His awesome attitude and great willing to help students and format the material in a understandable and relatable way considering the density of the material. He is AWESOME...
Dr Prins knowledge, experience and short stories helped me succeed and learned a lot in his class. His lectures and powerpoints were also helpful.
All the lectures and slides were valuable
the open lab sessions
The style of teaching, making us memorize the material instead of giving us multiple choice.
I found learning more about the anatomy aspect was very valuable. It gave me a better sense of what muscles and structures affect which movements and motions of the body.
All the information we learned. The hands on experience we got with the lab models. The quizzes were EXTREMELY helpful to keep me updated on the material. It made studying for the tests a TON easier b/c I'd already gone through 2/3 of the material
Knowing origin and insertion for majority of the muscles in the body.
Lab times to study the models before the exam
Everything was valuable.

maybe use models while giving the powerpoint lectures
maybe use tangible models in lecture?
He is doing a perfectly fine job.

Give more hints as to what will be on quizzes
I don't think Jan Prins needs to change anything, I loved the class, I wish maybe there were outside of class help for students (like tutoring) to help the newer students figure out how to study for the quizzes. I don't think prins treated all his students equally because if you cared about your grade and worked hard and asked for help, dr prins cared about you and wanted you to succeed as well.

more videos
I feel that he is a very great teacher and I have already recommended others to take the class from him for next semester.
I'm not sure if Dr. Prins has any control over it, but the powerpoints were very poorly done. They are extremely repetitive & are structured in a way that's hard to follow. I had to edit each powerpoint to make it easier to learn & memorize. I strongly believe that students should be allowed to at least drink their water in class. I understand about the no food, but water is essential!
Dr. Prins is far beyond knowledgeable with what he teaches that it makes me more interested with the material. I like how he talks at a very "indoor voice" level that it forces us to pay close attention to his lectures. I have nothing negative to say about his teaching.
The course was good as it was.

None.
For the lab exams let us pick up the models, or touch them so we can better see if its the right or left or back or front of he model.
There should be more lab material and actual homework to help improve grades and understanding. Having homework for this class would help students accumulate their points and make sure students study outside of class. Homework that is required to be turned in
prepare students for what they're getting themselves into, let them know they can do it if they really try
A little easier

I think we covered everything that should be covered in structural kinesiology. We covered both the skeletal and muscular part of each area of the body. Theres not much that can be improved in the course.

Just wish there were more days available for labs on the models to learn and study for the quizzes and exams. Also wish the classroom was a located in a better place or closed room with airconditioning because of the commercial trucks, swimming pool and outside disturbance next to L&L.

I have no comment
Making more exams so that the material is stretched out more so not so much information is on a single exam. Homework assignments to help students to learn course material.
Maybe a little more group work, like hands on activities that can demonstrate different movement in different planes and different muscles involved.

I think Dr.Prins should communicate a little bit louder because everyday we had a lecture a lot of people would need him to repeat himself because they couldn't hear him.

Very great insructor, I learned a lot and it helped me with other classes as well.
I really liked that the tests & quizzes were very straight forward. If you learned, understood, & memorized the powerpoints you will get 100% on the tests. This is very refreshing b/c a lot of my other classes, this is not the case.
This class made me love kinesiology even more. Thank you Dr. Prins.

Everything
loved this course. loved the professor.
I thought the professor's hands-on, life-applicable experiences were really beneficial in letting me see how the class information was important and helped me learn it more easily.
I will probably use everything taught in this course in my career (PT). I think this is one of the classes that should absolutely stay a part of the KRS program. The course is difficult, but not beyond reason.
Dr. Prins is awesome!!
I really enjoyed the connection between biomechanics and anatomy.
The amount and quality of material I learned in this class was most valuable to me. I learned several things that gave me a new perspective on the biomechanics of everyday activities and sports. This knowledge will be useful in my future career.
Learning about different aspects that could affect an athletes performance based on their biomechanics was very interesting.
The knowledge and experiences that Dr.Prins shared with us.
Clinical correlations, real life applications
Attending lectures
Attending classes and paying attention to lectures offers me a great learning experience and lots of new significant information about biomechanics and the human body. Also attending classes is very helpful towards quizzes.
The concepts of biomechanics
Being able to apply what I learned in past courses to challenge me in how to apply them to this course. Also, the organization and easy way that Prins portrays the information needed to be learned.
He states exactly the type of answers he wants to see on the quizzes and exams so there's no confusion.
Everything in this course is wonderfully applicable to everyday life, not just in sports. The internal force arms and the amounts of force they can endure safely endure with respect to the external force arms have been most valuable to me inside and outside of class -- especially during my workouts.
Powerpoints
I thought the section on torque and loads on the extremities of the body was the most valuable because this will come in really handy if I pursue a career in physical therapy.
I valued the breakdown of all the equations and the importance of each variable and how when using certain formulas to calculate for an unknown variable how all variables relate to one another.
Lectures are always the best part of this class. Dr. Prins is very knowledgeable but still knows how to teach in a way that is understandable and relatable. Lectures will give you insight into what will be on quizzes or exams, as well as hints about future bonus questions.
In class lectures with Dr. Prins
how he gave sports related examples to apply concepts
All the stuff about muscle mechanics and understanding how the body works as multiple units to carry out certain movements
Almost everything was most valuable, but learning the specifics of the physics involved with limb movement was at the top.
Dr Prins makes this class. His insight on all the subjects is amazing, and he can answer any question thrown at him in a simple straight forward, yet very clear way. I think he is great.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Nothing
We need a book. Using power point slides alone to study takes a course with material that is already difficult and makes it 10x harder. If you miss any lectures at all, you are going to be confused trying to understand the material your self. Not that Prins didn't make him self available to people outside of class to help them catch up, but seriously, this course needs a book for people that want to more thoroughly read about various covered topics.
I feel that the course itself is very valuable

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Its Awesome
Get a book. No...seriously. If not that, PLEASE record the lectures on video and make them available online after the lecture is over. At least for people that have excused absences. So many of the power point slides are just pictures, and if you miss class or can't hear what he said, you will have no idea what you're looking at. Also, fix the air conditioner or something so that we can close the windows and not have to strain to hear him over the sound of the swimming team that seems to practice as loudly as humanly possible every time we have class. I'd say I missed around 3-5% of the course material because I simply couldn't hear him over the outside noises. He doesn't mind if you stop him and ask him to repeat what he said, but for the more timid classmates, they are out of luck!
tried to switch up the monotone
Professor Prins does a superb job in teaching the material, I don't think his style needs improvement.

By clearly explaining things that he wants the students to know, rather than saying that we have to look things up on our own. Sometimes, the things he has us look up are hard to find and when we ask him questions about it, he says that we should know these things, but how are we to know them if he hasn't taught it to us?
Although not having a book was fantastic on the wallet, if a book was required it would have been one I kept for life.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
The tests and quizzes sometimes feel unnecessarily difficult, even if you studied 3-5hrs for them. He asks a bit to many questions that fall under the "you had to be there" category (meaning if you were not in class, you have no chance of answering it). I know this is a good way to make sure students come to class, but it almost felt excessive at times. This course basically demands 100% of your attention at all times, and 100% attendance to do really well. This is sometimes difficult for a 730am class with open windows and a swim team that seems to always be screaming at each other. Seriously...change their practice times or buy them ball-gags.
It would be interesting to incorporate some lab or field work to demonstrate some concepts if given ample class time. However, the course doesn't need improvement.
By not changing anything.
Concepts explained thoroughly in powerpoints. More clinical correlations.
This course was taught very well. If you study, you shouldn't have a problem with it
This course is taught well by Dr. Prins.
taught in a class with a/c so that the swim team doesnt bother our class with their practice.
Maybe a bit of interactive hands on exercises that would enable students understand the materials in a more visual way to add a more tangible viewpoint to some of the conceptual understandings and differences between things such as radial acceleration and force for example. I think adding more lab like exercises to the class could really help gain the concepts that much better and in turn allowing us to paint a picture that would be easier to remember and apply once out of school,
Adding more description to the power points would be helpful especially since there is no text book to reinforce the material.
More explaination of material
Adding in points for homework or attendance would be nice. Being graded strictly on test scores isn't fair to those who learn differently.
I thought this course was good the way it was. Even though biomechanics is a hard class, it wasn't too overwhelming.
Put a small microphone on. When swim team is practicing and large trucks are going by we can't hear you. Even if we are in the second row from the front. :(

More homework, more in class assignments

This course could be improved by adding in more to the powerpoints rather than just an overview of what things are. Or by adding more examples of the mathematics that are included (if that's what we're being tested on).
Maybe have some sort of work done in a weight room to allow us to apply concepts in real life setting
30. Other comments:
The more I think about it, the less this course needs a book, and the more this course actually needs Dr. Prins to video record his lectures and put them up for us to download. He has interesting stories and he explains material fairly well, so I guess a book is not necessary. But yah...something needs to be done to help augment the power point slides that are often greatly lacking in explanation. But yah. I felt out of all my courses in the KRS program, this class is in the top 5 of "most likely to use the information I learned in my career" category. Prins is awesome. The only people I know that didn't like him were people that were lazy and didn't bother showing up most of the time. He's really tough, takes no bullshit, and his exams are insanely hard, but he's at least fair and will help you as much as possible as long as you care/try.
Dr. Prins is my favorite professor in the department because he is fair and consistent with his grading. He also prepares students to understand and remember the test material.
Keep doing what you are doing Dr. Prins.
Thank you for a great semester, Prins! I really enjoyed the class and can't wait to take subsequent courses with you.
Prins is a wonderful professor and clearly has a passion for the subjects he teaches. He has taught me so many fun facts that I am sure I will carry with me and share with others for a lifetime. His class has me actually liking physics and even thinking about going further in my studies simply because my new found interest in the subject now outweighs my fear of the difficulties and math required to understand physics. I appreciate how understanding he is toward his students and grading. He really makes it 100% possible for any student to get out what they put in. He is one of the fairest teachers I've ever in that he clearly states what he expects and gives you all the tools to reach those expectations. I wish I could take this class again when not so overwhelmed with other classes so I could give my full attention to all incredibly useful and interesting topics.
I would definitely recommend taking KRS 463 with Dr. Prins. He really knows his stuff and he makes an intimidating subject like biomechanics fun to learn.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The content of the material and the application of the material towards my future career.
I loved how he grouped things together, so we learned one section of the body at a time so it was easier to memorize
Learning about the muscles and skeletal structures
Open lab
Every lecture was a great supplement for the future courses ahead
I find the quizzes to be most valuable. It prepares me for the exams. I also find the lab days to be very useful as well.
He explains exactly how things are going to be, such as what material will be covered as well as the difficulty of tests.
I think there were enough resources such as the book and lab sessions
The power points and the labs
His class was super informative. His powerpoints were very detailed and helped a lot with exams. He also helped a lot with our questions and made things clear with what we should know for our future. Also added some biomechanics which allowed us to prepare for our future class.
Increasing my knowledge about the anatomy and also the physiology of the human body because they way Prins teaches this class, makes it easier for me to understand the information.
How straight to the point everything was. Dr. Prins teaches in a way that engages every individual to learn the material at a relatively good pace and isn't too demanding at all.
Learning the origins and insertions of muscles to understand better where an issue within a muscles origin would then affect its area of insertion.
Everything, I will definitely take the things I learned in this class with me in future courses and in my intended career.
Knowledge of muscles and movements
We were told what was important to know for the class, and not to study things that would be covered in future courses. This made for more efficient studying.
Ability to use the anatomical muscle information and apply it to what we do everyday in real life. Being able to know what muscles are used in certain actions. Helps with being more inclined to be physically active as well.
Dr. Prins is a able to make anatomy an interesting subject and also has helped me retain much of the knowledge that he imparted in class.
I liked that the classroom was open in the afternoon the day before the test to study more, and that Professor Prins had the powerpoints online so we could look at them at home.
They way he taught the class was really helpful and straight foreward.
Professor prins was very knowledgable of the course material and applied what we were learning to real life examples which helped to understand and remember the concepts. Working in the fitness field Already, I learned new information that I could apply to my work.
Dr. Prins took the somewhat difficult material and made it reasonable for us students to learn.
Jan Prins is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of this course. I feel like I learned a lot of valuable information because his knowledge is so valuable in itself.
The quizzes that forced us to study in preparation for the exams.
The visualization of the muscle structures and the learning methods
His explanations, demonstrations and powerpoints.

Nothing.
I think some of his information is not up to date and still teaching old concepts like the function of Golgi tendon organ and muscle spindles.
The power points were very, very helpful. However, they were somewhat poorly edited and there was always a few typos or badly scaled pictures. Nothing major though.
printing our own quiz sheets.
I feel that the material learned in this course was all valuable and will help with future krs classes.

Nothing. I enjoyed all.
The lectures were boring and material could be learned from the power points provided. It was very hard to pay attention and stay motivated during lecture because it wasn't interactive and it was extremely early in the morning.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Possibly incorporate models into his lectures, while he is talking about muscle groups he can illustrate movements at the same time by use of models that are used in the lab.
Show more pictures of injuries
He should add an extra lab day to help students be more familiar with the skeletal models
speak louder and not go through the slides so fast
I actually don't have any suggestions regarding improvements
I think Prof. Prins is doing a good job :)
no improvements
Only to talk louder...i was sitting in the back a few times, i could barely hear him.
n/a
Honestly, I have no complaints about how this course was taught. I was engaged the whole time and learned a lot.
He could offer more of a guideline on how to study for the chapter quizzes
Helping us to more easily memorize certain things that are difficult to remember such as origins and insertions.
He could improve by making test multiple choices
Edit his power points to be more clear.
Possibly have more interactive sessions other than the lab classes. Maybe just come up with a few activities that students can do related to the lecture content, just to allow students to do hands on exercises. Speak a bit louder, sometimes was hard to hear because of all the outside activities, not entirely professors fault though because the sports team were blasting their terrible music outside.
Great job
I don't really think he could improve it
I would have liked to have an extra open lab, it was hard to come to the Wednesday extra lab and would be nice to have another time and day available to students that want to study more.
I found it difficult to rely solely on quiz and exam points. It would be nice to include some sort of attendance points or short homework assignments for those who aren't good test takers
Make the lectures more engaging and help us with ways to memorize the material
Nothing, he's great.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I think the course to fine how it is
This course could be improved by adding more time on skeletal models
One improvement that this course can benefit with is additional lab time. I feel if students had more time to work with the actual models they will obtain a better sense of what they're learning
I think this course as a whole is good. Nothing really that I suggest improving
Give more exams, so the material is not so much to remember at one...maybe have 4 exams to lighten the load of exam 2.
this class does not need improvement.
Possibly a better time slot than 7:30am. For a class that requires a lot of memorization, having it very early does push my limits as I am not fully able to concentrate because of grogginess. Other than that, the course itself is great as it is.
This course could be improved with more hands on time working with models as demonstrations. This would help to better visualize the subject matter.
This class could be improved by helping students memorize the tough concepts more easily. Otherwise it was very good, I learned a lot.
This could be improved by keeping the information to a minimal
I think the course might cover a bit to much material for how much we are required to know...but only slightly.
Cant think of anything
there should be homework (or at least worksheets) for us to fill out each day to go over the stuff we just learnt.
No improvement needed
Including points from things other than exams and quizzes such as attendance, homework, projects etc.
More hands on learning dealing with the models would be nice.
By making the lectures more engaging.
Nothing
30. Other comments:
Is very straightforward with the material we will be tested on. Saves a lot of study time and motivates me to learn and study everything, because i know exactly what he will test on. Unlike other teachers who give a ridiculous ammount of material and refuse to tell you what we need to know, it makes it a lot easier to give up on studying and its a lot harder to learn when you cram so much useless information
Overall, this course was a pleasant one and hands down one of the best teachers I've had as a student at UH MANOA.
I really learned a lot in the class and it was very well structured

HONESTLY, THE BEST COURSE I HAVE TAKEN IN COLLEGE SO FAR. THE KNOWLEDGE I GAINED IS UNMATCHED, UNTIL I TAKE THE PROCEEDING CLASSES WITH DR. PRINS.
All in all this course has set a great foundation for the rest of my major's studies and I look forward to taking him in future courses.
Thanks for your time, I learned so much! I definitely had to earn my grade
Dr. Prins is a great teacher, and I look forward to his other classes. His sense of humor is dry, and that might put off some people or cause them to think he is picking on them, but he means nothing by it.
Hard to come by good professors at UH Manoa, but Professor Prins is a great one. He takes real pride in his subject and is understanding and respectable to his students.
this course is very challenging, and Jan Prins knew everything very well. this was my second time taking this class, and he did a much better job than the teacher at a different school I had for this course.
Professor prins really cared about the material he was teaching and his students. His tests were challenging but provided us with all of the material that we needed to know in lectures. I learned a lot of valuable information in this course, probably more than most classes I have taken. It is refreshing to have teachers that really care and it shows in his teaching.
Challenging course. Learned a lot.
Jan Prins does an amazing job, and I am looking forward to taking his biomechanics class because of the great job he did with us in krs 353. I was excited to come to class and learn from him every single time I sat down in my seat. He deserves praise for his hard work and knowledge

Learning every day examples of forces acting on the body, how the effectiveness of the body changes based on positioning and external forces as well as internal forces.
Dr. Prins' power points were very helpful in this course because they were simple yet effective in teaching us complex concepts.
I really liked how Dr prins goes over each lecture at a good speed and explains things when the class has questions. Also the exams arnt easy however he teaches the subject so well that you know the concept or topic well
Learning the biomechanics of the body
learning about movements of the body and the forces behind them
I really enjoyed how Prins put emphasis on the application of knowledge. This is the way that I learn and retain information the best!
learning about the physics of the body
Entire course. No required text was a benefit.
Applying real life examples to the concepts we learned.
There was no book, so we had to listen and take good notes.

the powerpoints and the worksheets

All information is valuable
learning the material from this class
All the material learned helped me for my physics class, since the class combines trig and physics. I really learn more from when Prins gives examples during class of what's being taught and gives the students a chance to ask questions and really understand the material.
The real life applications. I really like the pictures included into the tests.
Real life examples, able to relate to the material and content.
The teacher. He is an excellent instructor that has a very good grasp on the field and is able to translate his knowledge and teach us some of what he knows.
I think that the most valuable thing that I have learned in this class is the fundamentals of biomechanics that I can build on in future courses.
They were all equally valuable.
the material that was taught was understandable and clear.
aspects of the spine and what is healthy for the back when moving was the most valuable
I liked that he is very knowledgeable of the material that he has taught in class. I liked that he took the time to make powerpoints for the class to help us study for the quizzes.

Jan Prins teaches this course with high effectiveness as is
I think the way Dr. Prins taught the class was great and I wouldn't change anything about it.

Nothing. I like how he doesnt have a book and uses just the powerpoints as a study guide. All the material is direct and is easily learned. He is very helpful and is always open to questions and helping students.

I think something that he can improve on is having a set schedule and sticking to because there are some days I don't know what's happening.
Not sure. He does a very good job as it is.
more group involvement
He has demonstrated very well that he knows the material and how to teach it to his students. I wouldn't change anything.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
N/A
Course could be improved by not incorporating as much info. I felt as if some concepts were rushed
i don't think tha this course needs to be improved
Nothing, this is a great class.
Maybe slow down a bit during lecture. Also be a little bit more clear during lectures
Not much to improve on. Dr. Prins does a good job of explaining course material and fairly assessing student knowledge.
n/a
maybe just add assignments to the syllabus. i understand the class is based on exams and quizzes and we do have the chance to earn extra points. adding assignments could help us earn more points where we'd lose them in exams.
No need for improvement
more bonus points
Nothing in this course needs to be improved. His teaching style has always been the same and it works. I learn well through the powerpoint and examples.
I think some visual aids would help. More word problems.
I don't think there is anything that can make the course better. I have learned a lot and I appreciate everything I've learned in this class.
Perfect the way it is.
more group involvement rather than all lectures
I wouldn't change anything about this course

One of the best teachers in the KRS department.
Jan Prins should be used by grad students to learn how to teach. Before the teach they should have to sit through his class and see how he teaches and learn to adapt how he teaches to their style and personalities. To many of the grad students rely on the books or power-points. Anyone can read a power-point, but to have a power-point that is yours and you can actually explain it and teach from it is a whole different way of instructing

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Dr. Prins extensive knowledge of all the material covered in this course.
making up notes for the test was helpful as it was a learning process.
I think that the labs were really helpful
His knowledge
I like that we had muscle tests. Even though it is hard it definitely helped me learn the muscles more effectively than any other class.
Pretty much everything that we learned/were taught was very valuable. We are going to need to know everything for our future classes, as well as professions.
The cheat sheets for the exams. Too much information for just a six week course.
learning what the muscles do in every part of the body. It made me realize what a complex system out bodies are
Dr. Prins does a great job in answering our questions while showing us examples which really help.He is easy to approach and knows a great deal on the subject.
practice exams posted on laulima
Complete memorization of the material, will be useful in my future career.
All aspects of this course were very valuable towards my major. I loved the way we learned about the muscles and bones and how we had to think critically on all of our exams .
Very informative and detailed PowerPoints that helped me to grasp all the concepts much easier than just reading the text
Dr. Prins pointed out how the info was related to our majors and our personal lives
Learning which muscles in the leg perform which movements
The criteria he taught were valuable because I will need it for my career
EVERYTHING!
Learning about every bone & muscle in the human body.
The application to everyday bodily movements.
The lectures and slides were definitely most helpful. Quizes also pushed you to start learning the material early before the exam.
everything
learning about all the muscles and bones in the body
Creating a 5 page cheat sheet
A lot of information in regards to PT and real world application
Learning about all the clinical applications of this course.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Not enough time in the summer
individual lab time was least valuable - should be either class lab or guided lab with worksheet to fill out that will be completed and handed in for points. individual learning of things like that is superbly hard and not worth it to the student. There is no motivation for it, not even extrinsic.
N/A
The part least valuable was the part about knowing the innervation, insertion and origin. I don't know how this will be helpful.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Assigning homework to supplement the lecture
-- snipped --
When showing examples of the body, make sure that everyone can see what is being done.
I didn't like the quizzes because they were really hard and I had a hard time memorizing all the material. It was hard for me to figure out what information was going to be on the test because there was so much.
Everything went smoothly and he taught everything pretty well so as far as improvements go, I have no suggestions.
Felt rushed, but it's understandable since the course is so short in the summer.
he can't, does a good job already
The lectures at times can get boring. Maybe spice it up with more jokes.
More interactive learning
Already a sturdy and challenging course, maybe have more involvement with the class, but since it was a summer session it was alot of material to go through so there wasnt much time for anything fun.
I think that Dr. Prins is doing a terrific job teaching the course. I do not believe that he needs to make any changes to the way that he teaches this course.
Maybe explaining the concepts in a way that's easier to grasp, such as through more real life examples

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
More time, longer classes, more homework.
tone down information of course. only go over the biggest concepts and information with an introductory course like this. more advanced courses can give more in depth information.
I feel like this class can be improved with more lab activities with lab partners. This give the students a chance to teach each other, which i feel like can greatly improve the learning of the material in this class.
Less information would be helpful for quizzes and test.
I think extending the course by a couple of weeks would be a lot better. Some other courses are offered for an extended 2 weeks (I believe) and I think this course, since there's so much content to learn, would be a good one to have extended.
Maybe focus on what is really important since the course was packed into 6 weeks rather than trying to cover everything and not going into much depth.
Some of the pictures for the lab portion of the exams could be better quality. There could be more real life examples of how the muscles in our bodies are being used
Maybe using real models or a chance to visit real models can give us a better understanding of anatomy.
n/a
N/A
It could be improved through more explanation and real life examples so that we can grasp the concepts easily. Assigning homework and including that In the grade could keep students on track as well
Couldn't be improved. I liked how he allowed us to use notes for exams since the content was condensed into such a short period of time.
The class can more in depth of certain topics and less in others less related
Being that we learned all the muscles and bones in the body in 6 weeks, I think he's done a good job in organizing this class to fit the allotted time.
More opportunity to raise your grade such as writing assignments, extra credit, or other means of showing your knowledge and understanding of the course other than pure memorization. Some students do not perform best under these exam styles
don't, change, anything
Just slow down during the lectures. Also give us students the slideshows that you are presenting.
I feel this course covers everything that needs to be covered. I learned more than I expected. Nothing needs to change.

Overall, it is a good class
Dr. Prins is a well known instructor in the KRS department. I have heard nothing but good things about him my entire time at UH. He is a great professor and I learned a lot in this course. I look forward to taking other classes with him.
I feel that as a student out of the four years that I have attend UH Manoa , I have learned the most from Dr. Prins. He is very knowledgeable and makes us think critically. He applies everyday situations and prepares us for other courses such as biomechanics etc. Also I feel that he is very very valuable asset to the staff here at the university.
Thank you!
Great course!
His humor cracks me up & his stories are awesome.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I learned a lot of anatomy in this course that could help me to pursue my career as a physical therapist.
The simplicity in the way that material was presented was probably one of the most valuable aspects of this course. All of the material was straight forward and we were never overloaded with too much information that we did not need to know. Each time material was presented Dr. Prins would be very clear on what we needed to know for exams and quizzes.
The in class lectures.
The subject itself and also the lab portions, being able to identify the muscles, via their actions and origins etc.
I believe that everything that was taught in this course was valuable.
The lecture power points were most valuable and well explained during lecture
going to class everyday and taking notes of the lecture
I liked that there is no curve. We are graded on what we know. I also like his policy on phones and food/drink in class. I find it distracting and disrespectful and I appreciate his interest in our learning experience.
spending an hour each day going over material
The information supplied to us was extremely useful and will be extremely useful in continuing my KRS education and pursuing my degree.
Learning to memorize the material was very challenging as well being able to demonstrate having learned it. This I feel is very valuable because it helps me to learn the material better and will help me more in the long run.
the knowledge that dr. prins demonstratedin this subject.
all aspects were valuable, especially the lab parts
having a class that focuses solely on the muscles and the skeletal system was valuable.
Dr. Prins... He's an amazing teacher and I wish he taught more classes. Hard class, but at least it made sense compared to must teachers who teach you one thing and test you on another...
The most valuable aspects were definitely the open labs, practice exams, concise lecture slides, and helpful examples given by Dr. Prins. Even the weekly quizzes were helpful in getting the material to stick in my mind.
The lectures
The material itself is most valuable, and the organization of the lectures made studying and comprehending that material really easy. The quizzes were especially helpful because it made me study throughout the course and not just prior to an exam.
Learning all the muscles
all the material was very good. the professor made it very clear from the beginning what he expected from us. he expected you to be discipline. lectures were very interesting
studying for quizes and exams. spending at least an hour a day reviewing the material
the connection of muscle movements to real life situations such as sports.
Learning about A LOT of muscles and bones.
Labs and teaching of experience with certain cases can help paint a picture and better understanding of the topic.
Great in-depth review of muscles of the body and their relations to each other as well as body movements.
Clinical correlations, real-life stories (whether heard or from experience), and pictures (some graphic) were most valuable. The DVD shown in the last class was amazing, and definitely an eye-opener.
Dr. Prins uses a lot of life experiences to demonstrate and explain concepts in class, and has much compassion for his field of study. He is a great teacher and you can learn valuable information, granted you go to class every day. Quizzes every other week or so keep you on your toes and help for the comprehensive test which can be a bit difficult if attempted unprepared.
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Everything was great!
I did not think that any aspects of the course were least valuable. I think all aspects were important for learning the material and being successful in this course.
I didn't read the text very much. I used the book for the images, but didn't read the chapters.
Everything was valuable
The lab was effective but only what you took out of it.
Being tested on spelling:(

none.

skipping over explaining parts of the powerpoint in the presentation. i would rather stay the entire class period and go over the powerpoint in greater detail. some students learn better when the professor explains it, not just by studying powerpoints and reading the book.
Telling us there's a quiz on Thursday when it's already Tuesday... Sometimes he would change his mind last minute about what the quiz would be on.... However, he seemed far with the quiz strength
There really wasn't anything that did not help me in this course.
I thought his tone of voice to be distracting sometimes
I honestly thought everything was relevant and valuable to some degree.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Stay the same.
I liked the structure of this course and do not think that it needs to be improved in anyway because the material was presented very clearly and concisely.
Use more class time? although I really enjoyed getting out early most of the time.
I think that the way he teaches is great and that it is very effective. He should continue teaching the way he currently does.
The exams are challenging which is good but often I felt to much material was covered for each exam which prevented my from bing able to retain all the information needed to succeed in each exam.
none
I enjoyed his teaching style VERY much. I wouldn't change a thing....except being graded on spelling.
make classe easier muiltple choice
I think it would be helpful if he maybe helped the students a little bit more on the lab part section of the course. Also clarify in more detail the specific naming of the material, such as a long sentence for an insertion of a muscle. Confusing at times on how to memorize how he wants us to write it.
everything is fine
maybe have required homework assignments
explain more of the topics/concepts in the powerpoints. it may seem simple, but for some people, its confusing. If you could take the time to explain more things in the powerpoint during lecture, that could be beneficial to many students.
Potentially offer more opportunities for students to get together and study at the beginning of the quarter, it could help students figure out what exactly they need to be focusing on.
Keeping grades up to date
I really don't know. I thought it was great.
Use laulima for grades
professor did good. maybe try to relate material to the different professional pathways we are trying to achieve. like for instance; relate muscles and injuries to different fields of study. muscles that are typically injured and rehabbed.
maybe half a page to one page of notes to use on exams
Everything subject was covered very well.
Speak louder. Road traffic noise and the swimming pool right outside the classroom made it difficult to hear the lectures sometimes.
Have the class follow along in the movements-it might help them gain a better perspective on what they're learning.

More use of models during lectures
I felt like I learned the most and could demonstrate that new material the best when I associated the names and actions via pictures. More exam/quiz questions like that would be great.
To improve this course I think their should be some better way that students could be helped to better prepare for the exams. There is simply to much information to retain everything taught in lecture.

I would enjoy the neck and back muscles taught together. Slow down on the slides for those taking notes with pen and paper.
make it easier, expects so much
Better review of the exams would allow the students to learn which parts of the lab they missed. Knowing the right answer is one thing; however with a picture attached to the question it would be more beneficial in the learning process.
i can think of any ways that this course could be improved
we should have more lab classes
I don't believe this course can be improved.
Just keeping grades up to date with students
There is a lot of material covered in this class, and I did pretty well on the exams. The only thing is that everything from previous sections I have already forgotten. Not that I would want to add to exam materials or quizzes, but maybe extra credit assignments could be used to make us go over old material to keep it fresh.
Grades could be put on laulima to track progress.
Instructor could use laulima to upload grades so that students would know where they are standing throughout the entire semester.
really good course.

Maybe Dr. Prins could give students different ways of grouping muscles. Location, action, and names possibly. Every student learns differently and sometimes the way taught in class was not how I learned them best.
At the end of the semester, you should show more of the DVD. You could also upload a spreadsheet with grades/points to keep students informed at all times about their current situation (using ID #s for secrecy).

Great professor!
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and Dr. Prins' way of teaching. Everything was very concise and it was all memorization, so your success in this class is all based on how much you repeatedly test yourself and put in the time to memorize the material.
Hahahaha, I love/hate when administering quizes, you comment about how easy a question should be and I have no idea what the answer is. Keep it up!
great class, I learned a lot and was definitely challenged

I enjoyed Mr. Prin's teaching style and humor. He is always available for questions and expects you to know your stuff. Mahalo nui loa for a great experience and knowledge:)
make class easier hardest class i ever had in my life
I have never enjoyed a professor more than Dr. Jan Prins. Working with him in and out of the classroom has been a pleasure and i regret that i will not have any other courses with him. He explains the material very clearly and gives opportunities for you to improve yourself in and out of the class.
Great teacher, great class. Challenging but worth it. Really learned the material well.
i appreciate your approach and teaching attitude. your inclusion of stories, tidbits of experience allowed for connections with the material, and made concepts easier to understand and remember. I enjoyed having you as a teacher. I feel that your class was fair, your exams were fair, and that you were fair as a teacher. this is not said about many teachers.
I was terrified of this class at first, but it has become one of my favorite and most challenging classes. If it wasn't for the attitude Dr. Prins took towards this class I probably would have hated it. It's nice to have a professor who seems to genuinely enjoy his job.
Great class!! Learned a lot, easy to understand material.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I really liked how Dr. Prins allowed us to talk to him after we take our quiz to argue our points on our quiz. It really allowed us to test how much we knew about the material. I also liked how he provided us with a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I really appreciate how prepared for class Dr. Prins is. He is experienced and knows so much information about his field. His presentation of lectures are very smooth and gives us time to ask questions. After exams, we would go over them as a class and after class he gives us time to come and receive more points if students felt they were marked wrongly.
I believe the knowledge of knowing how your body works when just doing simple tasks were important. I also enjoyed how he relates the material to scenarios that are commonly known.
applications to sport and health care
Practical application of physics to body movements.
Dr. Prins has knowledge in this field rather than basic course knowledge.
Doctor Prins' explanations of many topics out of the book provided information in much further detail than his slides or sometimes even the book provided.
directly related to what i want to do in life used what i learned earlier in the program
Just learning the concepts of biomechanics that relate to our everyday lives was interesting.

The connection made between physics and anatomy.
The PowerPoint slides were very informative. The practice problems posted online were also really helpful. Extra credit is always positive.
The power points were very insightful
all the concepts that we learned in this class were all valuable, Dr Prins made sure that everything that we learned was tied into the concept of biomechaics
Learning the biomechanics to help athletes perform better
The applications within various sports of the material helped to understand it better and kept it interesting.
Dr. Prins was able to explain concepts very well.
Quizes and exams
Prins teaching methods were fabulous & helpful to understand book material.
All were valuable because they tied into real life situations
learning about gait
The experience of Dr. Prins and his knowledge. He shows a lot of knowledge and is able to teach the material very effectively.
incorporation of real life examples makes the material easier to understand
11. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

I think that he could not make it so much of just a lecture class. There were times where the class got boring because he just lectured straight from the slides.
Nothing to say!!!
He can improve this class by offering more opportunities for students to earn points. Higher extra credit points allow students to push themselves and work harder into passing the class.
some working on the slides can be confusing if not approached with Prins's same point of view.
Speak louder. The road traffic and swimming pool right outside the classroom made it difficult to hear the lectures at times.

Can't think of anything that I would have to improve
by having quizzes

maybe simplify some of the concepts that we were studying. sometimes there can be an overload of information given and can be confusing to some of the students
Make the quiz questions more concrete and leave less room for confusion on what kind of answer he wants

I like that every so often he tells us how many more points we are able to get from the quizzes and exams that are left to take. He tells us we can come up to him and ask how we're doing in class, how many more points we need to pass etc. If you feel you were marked wrongly on a quiz, he would explain to you why it was wrong, but if he sees why you were confused, he makes you explain why you wrote the answer and if it satisfies Dr. Prins question and he deems you have knowledge in the subject, he would give you credit. He treated all students fairly, showed absolutely no favoritism, and gave us all an equal opportunity to earn points.

Professor Prins teaching style made it very easy to understand which helped a lot to remember what I was thought.
Dr Prins teaching methods allowed me to learn at my best capability. all the material covered was easily learnable and the curriculum was challenging as well
The most valuable aspects of this course were the side stories that made the material easier to relate to. The examples whether they were experienced by the professor or another person made the topics covered interesting and fun to learn.
every aspect of the course was valuable, enjoyable anatomy/structural kinesiology class.
The lab time.
this class is the base of knowledge needed for KRS and Dr. Prins presents the information in a mannor that is effect to learning the material.
All of it since it all pertains to my major.
Everything!
Explanation of lecture slides and letting us know exactly what he expected from the class.
I thought going through each muscle and its components one by one helped out a lot. Study guides were also very helpful as well.
learning the required information for future classes.
lectures were very helpful as well as the power points
learning about the muscles of the body
Memorization techniques and learning good study habits.
Everything
professors ability to convoy his knowledge and the course material to the students
The teacher telling us exactly what he wanted us to say about muscle origin and insertions
The knowledge of the course in general was very valuable and it all can be applied to everyday situations.
Lab portion of exam
Professor Prins demonstrated his knowledge and made it relatable through personal stories to make the story stick. I felt that was the most valuable, as it can be difficult to remember such bulky information but through personal stories, memorization was not as difficult.
This course is JAM PACKED with information but all useful and needed for a kinesiology major
PowerPoints
He was very in depth and very knowledgeable which helped me and other students stay motivated and learn the material, and all of this information all of us can use later.
Learning about movements of the muscles, taking quizzes that applied to our learning skills and having open labs to look at the models and apply our knowledge.
Knowing what was expected of us was valuable. He was clear on what we needed to study we had all the tools and having the book helped. If you studied his lectures and the book you definitely would do well
Labs before exams
I felt that the overall material was very important because we learned about the different muscles, bones, and their functions which is a very helpful because this is a good preparation for me since I want to become a physical therapist someday.
Understanding how course concepts would relate to real life situations.
The lab really helped when it came to studying for the exams. It was nice to see the models that would be used for the test.
