13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Lectures were very infomative and gave a clear understanding of the chapters.
He knows a lot about the material. He keeps the class interesting with group discussions.
He is great at being up front with what is expected for homework and exams.
The way Mr. Cohen teaches. He explains everything with the power so and it makes it easier for me to understand.
One of his strengths is his experience in the career field.Brings a lot of real experiences to the material. He uses multi media and visual aides for his lectures. Extremely helpful and resourceful with the material we had to study.
I felt he knew the material well and made group discussions interesting.
-Gives students notice of assignments and due dates
Although the lecture classes may be long, he keeps the students interested by various ways of teaching such as film, group discussions powerpoints, along with the lectures. The concepts that we discuss in class are utilized by Cohen explaining them in real-life situations that makes it easier to visualize and keeps us engaged and interested.
I like his positive outlook on life and that shows through his teaching.
Professor Cohen is a very detail oriented instructor, he spent lots of time to correct students' assignments and exams.
very upbeat and uses current events to relate to the studies that way we as students can understand better
He knows a lot about this subject.
He knows his subject really well.
States what needs to be addressed to get full credit. Is straight forward about directions and instructions.
He's very understandable and easy teacher to work with. He always responded promptly to the students requests. His classes are interesting. He makes students interacting in his classes because he reads and answer to the posts. He is very knowledgeable in the class that he teaches. He is a teacher that work along with the students to pass his classes successfully. Doesn't make things easy because he wants us to learn, but help us a lot because he wants us to complete the courses with the best score possible. Personally, this should be every teacher attitude.
If you make an inquiry about a grade he gave you for one of the assignments, you can email him and he will usually respond quickly and resolve the questions/concerns that you had.
I appreciated the opportunity to edit papers to get a higher score up until the due date. He is an experienced teacher that has clear thoughts on what his students should know at the end of the term, and they understand what they must do along the way in order to reach those goals. Very knowledgeable in his field.
communicative with his students.
Clearly laid out course, well organized on-line class. All material was sourced primarily from one text. He gave prompt feedback and grading.
The class was well organized and consistent. He always responded to my emails promptly.
Irvin Cohen is very in interested in the success of his students. He encourages students to think outside the box and really encouraged participation.
Very organized
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
NA
Sometimes I found that I get pretty tired in that class. Maybe more group discussions? Because when i'm in a group I get more engaged in the topic than when its just about lecturing.
I wouldn't make any changes to the class.
N/A
-Give all students a chance to make up work, even if they did it, and didn't do work -Make classes more interesting, they're long so make it worth the time
Sometimes I think I know what the online postings require to get full points and other times I'm not so sure.
nothing
Love the class, perfect outline.
Maybe if there were less power points and lectures it would be better, just because the class is so long. I like the group discussions though.
none.
Revise the syllabus to correct any questionable points. Especially, with Exam 3 being only 2 chapters and Exam 4 being 5-6 chapters.
Learning Service cannot be completed by all students. It might affect students scores. If we are taking online courses is because we cannot dedicate to much time to other tasks. Would be possible another option such an online research?
Make your instructions for assignments like the human development rubrics less ambiguous and provide more examples.
I suggest to be more clear as to what constitutes a well developed post or paper. We also got information about service learning opportunities once in the beginning of the semester, but nothing thereafter. It would of been good to be updated on the possible options and opportunities throughout the semester. Would have liked to see more feedback on student posts in order to encouraged discussion and ideas within the classroom.
He offered some extra credit, but it was time specific, requiring attendance at specific times. I take online classes because I have a hard time making regular scheduled appointments due to work hours. I would have appreciated some extra credit opportunities that I could have done on my own time, like additional essays or research projects or the like.
The rubrics used for chapter posting still confuses me to this day. I thought I was following instructions but was never really sure exactly where I went wrong. For some reason I found him to be somewhat intimidating and hard to approach.
I would suggest clarifying certain instructions like that of the rubric. Some details may have been lost in translation.
None
To maybe be a little bit more personal. As well as more deeper instructions to his assignments, not everyone understands.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He posted responses to postings to help you improve content.
He would regularly email students if there were any changes regarding tests, quizzes, etc.
He encouraged questions inside and outside of class and emailed us if we had scores on tests or assignments that were low.
He kept reminding us about postings and tests and he also went through the material that we dont understand so that we will be ready for a test. He lets us make up a posting when our grade isnt so well.
He gives you many opportunities to improve your grade. He gives you study guides to help prepare for exams. Your grades are based on the amount of work you put into class. He allows you to make up posting or retake an exams and extra credit opportunities are available.
He allowed for questions in class and allowed extra time for late chapter postings
Allows those who missed classes to make up work and tests.
Cohen gave us opportunity for extra points, especially if we came to class (since lectures are only once a week) and was readily available outside of class, through email and even through the phone.
He spent lots of time to correct each student's exam.
very open, had given us email and phone number and talked before and after class
He always updated his grade book on laulima so students can see what they are getting so far. He always remind students that the posting is due on certain date. He always ask students in class if they have questions. If students are failing or concern about their grade, he always try to help the students on how they can bring up their grade.
By posting on the class discussion board and/or sending out emails reiterating instructions and advise.
He wanted us to learn how to follow rubrics in our posts and allowed students to edit so we were able to recognize and repair our mistakes.
see section 13
He showed concern for students by emailing us about our chapter posting scores. If we did not meet the 20 points, he told us a few ways we could earn more points.
Mr. Cohen goes deeper than rigidly following a course syllabus. He sensed when students need more time to absorb the material and, within limitations, are willing to give it to them. Gave us chance to turn assignment that were not completed on time. Shows compassion that it a great trait for an effective teacher!
Being an online class I guess the only way to gauge this would be in feedback and promptness of replies to emails, which he was consistent and swift in. He also gave make up opportunities for missed assignments.
He was understanding when I had a personal situation come up in class.
Irvin Cohen encourged turning in work on time but also showed he concern because he allowed students to take a test they may have missed. He really wants his students to succeed.
Offered to edit posts that were submitted early so that more points can be earned
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would highly recommend him as an instuctor. He helps students grasp the material through his lectures, group discussions and media which I feel helped me alot.
yes, he is a very good teacher. his class is long but he keeps it interesting with visual aids and group discussions.
Yes, he is good at presenting the material in a practical manner and thorough at explaining student questions.
Yes. He's an awesome teacher. He's very clear and understandable and his assignments really make you think about your life.
Yes I would, Even though we go through each chapter so fast it wasn't a very hard class. It all depended on the students, if they did the work they'll get the grade they deserve if not then they'll still get the grade they deserve.
This will help me in nursing greatly. I recommend his class if you want to be able to use the information after completing the class. The information is relevant to the real word.
Yes, because he is a very understanding professor that is willing to help out his students.
No, he isn't fair and his classes are very boring, therefore students won't want to attend.
Yes, I would definitely recommend Cohen to other students because I learned the entire textbook, in depth, through his class. Classes are also interesting, even if they are long. I really like his teaching style. Online postings also had to be up to par with the rubrics, displaying that he is a fair grader and doesn't just scan through the postings, you get what you deserve.
Yes, the class takes some time and effort to do well but he gives opportunies to better your grade.
yes, because he is a caring instructor.
yes, he made human development very fun.
Yes
Yes definitely. He is very knowledgeable and funny guy. He always go over power point slides and show videos. That way we have a better understand on the life span. Also put students in group so we can discuss on the chapter in class. In case someone do not understand the textbook or have questions.
yes, assignments are mostly organized with little room for clarification. If so, students may email or post a question and get a timely response.
HIGHLY recommend because he'll work along with the student to succeed.
I think I would based on the fact that he actually responds to student inquiries about grades.
Yes I would because his assignments have helped me think for myself. Despite his assignments being a bit challenging to earn full points, it has made me see what I need to improve on.
Yes, He response promptly to any question. Organizes and prepares course material way in advance so you can plan and manages your time. Is committed to teaching and has a philosophy supporting student-centered learning
Yes I would, it was a very clear course. The grade was based on a number of different factors as opposed to some classes where your grade is from 3 big exams, you had an opportunity to improve or upkeep your grade with chapter responses on a weekly basis. I appreciate that, as it allows some peace of mind, being able to track my progress from the beginning.
Yes, it was a good class and I learned a lot.
Yes, I would recommend Irvin Cohen because he is a fair and well informed teacher.
yes, very organized class
Yes because I like the independency of his course but if the student needs more hands on then probably no.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
excellent professor
Thank you for being such an understanding and dynamic teacher!
He is reasonable and fair.
He seems very racist and is fast to stereotype students.
A pretty funny teacher too, which helps with the long lectures. But he definitely knows his teaching material and is organized and structured.
Thank you for your class.
laughed more than any other class, but also learned the most since it was fun
He is very helpful. Always response to my emailed when I have questions and after class. He always listen to students and very understandable.
One of the best teachers at KCC.
none
Seemed like a thoughtful guy from his comments, didn't give me hard time for going on religious/political rants in all my chapter postings.
He seems fair and professional. I would like to see him encourage students to interact with him and ask questions when needed instead oof just telling us to refer to the syllabus.
18. Other comments:

Keep up the good work. =)
KCC should evaluate the teachers. Teachers like Irvin Cohen should be praised and should be shown as a good example for other teachers that don't show concern for the students and instead try to make them fail.
nope.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Because this course was online, I do not know what Mr.Cohens strengths are.
-The power points were very helpful -study guides helped most when there were tests. -postings helped some what on the understanding of the material
Knows material very well and helps us correct our mistakes
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would suggest that he should make the due dates more organized suchas having all posting due say every Monday. Or Mondays and wednesdays. Because right now, the due dates seem random.
-there were many postings, sometimes doing one on each chapter seemed a little repetitive, a small paper could have been an equivalent to two postings or something like that. (optional). -buying the book online is expensive as well, is there a way to have a free version? -the grading on the postings were kind of odd, if it was long and detailed it got good points, some of the shorter ones not so much, even on the long detailed ones there was a deduction of points. even though half of it was opinion based.
I suggest more accessibility to CSL during the summer session
No!!!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
he gave a reminder to students averaging a little low to change their study strategy.
Responds to my posts and emails us if we need to make corrections
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
sure. He's approachable
Yes! Learned A LOT in this course

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Professor Cohen made learning the subject fun, and on a personal level that was enjoyable. He's witty, funny, and engaging. He makes us speak up even if we don't want to, but not in a way that's intimidating at all. Wish this guy were my life coach!
He was able to explain his topic in good details.
He gets me interested in the topics he talks about. And he uses clear examples to better explain his point. Excellent teacher!
Sets a good example of living a happy and healthy life. Very accessible. Answers e-mails promptly. Emphasizes current issues which tie in material from text making lessons applicable to life. Makes us write - which sucks but is good practice for us and encourages critical thinking.
Gets the message accross
Good, fun classroom environment.
He knows a lot of his subject and effectively explains it to students, not in a lecture way, but in a way that evokes personal thought to truly understand.
I'm not too sure actually
Mr. Cohen's strengths as a professor were that he would offer assistance as often as he could.
overall good teacher; knew material very well; prompt in grading and returning exams
His methods of utilizing our own opinions and daily experiences and applying it in terms of the lessons/points he was trying to educate us about.
Mr. Cohen, Is a very organized instructor. He replys to emails very quickly like the same day or no later then the next day. As for the dicussion questions he even gives his thoughts, and feedback so he is involved. Very helpful, clear, and treats students fair. I definitely would recommend other to take his class. Awesome Professor!!!
I really appreciate how Prof. Cohen showed his concern for the students. After ever exam and after occasional online chapter postings, he would send emails to us giving us positive reinforcements and comments about our assignments. Even something as short as 'Well done on the exam' was enough to motivate me to continue to do by best in his course. Even though this is a course that I took online, he was very open and quick to responding to emails. I would highly recommend Prof. Cohen to anybody that needs to take a FAMR course from him in the future.
Organized and knows very well about the subject. Every caring when reading our post.
N/A
Excellent on-line course structure.
One of Mr. Cohen's strengths as a teacher was that he graded assignments and exams quickly to let the students know how they did. Another strength that he had was that he encouraged his students to participate and learn the material in an easy and effective way. A third strength he had was that he was available and responded to questions students had immediately. Overall, I would say he was an excellent teacher and would definitely would recommend other students to take him as well.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
N/a
0 - nada - none.
None
N/A
I would suggest more time studying the text.
I suggest maybe more watching videos instead of lectures because it seems really boring just watching power points
Mr. Cohen should explain more in the syllabus about the paper at the end of the semester, it is hard to get that done; he should tell his students to do research early and show an example of the research for the paper.
none
None.
I can't think of any changes to this course as for me the subject matter is clear and assignments and exams are all out in advance so we know way prior to the day. Very good
I understand that as an online class it is the student's responsibility to check up on assignments; however, I think that he should not assign any work during the spring break. Also, a better and clear explanation of the paper.
N/A
N/A
The only thing to suggest would be to be more clear on your instructions for the final paper.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He made reminders about things that were due
He made sure we attended class by signing in.
Always answers e-mails promptly.Sends reminders via e-mail to students. Provides test study guides.Makes himself very accessible. Creates an "open door" atmosphere.
Kept us up to date on our grades. Made sure we understood the material and applied it to daily life
Helped us with our tests when we needed it.
He integrated some personal life issues in the class room discussions and helps you think of it in a more positive way.
not sure actually.
Mr. Cohen emailed in a timely manner and would offer assistance after class.
responded to question on email/laulima very promptly with details answers
He showed concern by reminding us of the material and making the appropriate responses in order to correct our errors and ensure a smooth semester. He also offered extra credit in order to allow us the opportunity to improve our grade.
He is just willing to help students and emails right away.
same answer as #13
I considered dropping the course around mid semester just before the "W" cutoff date. He first suggested I see an advisor, then after my decision to continue in the course, was very accommodating in allowing me to make up some lost work.
N/A
He does an excellent job with responding quickly to emails offering support as necessary.
He showed concern for students by responding to any sort of question that a student might have about something and that he graded assignments/ exams right away to give us feedback on how to improve.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because he runs his class well
YES! Because his lectures grab your attention and he engages students. As a student in high school that would always sleep in class, I stay up and listen to his lectures.
Yes. Everyone who completes this course cannot help but get something out of this class that will carry through life.
Yes, very good teaching method
Yes.
Yes I would, because I learned so much about parenting and parental psychology that I am so happy I took the class.
Not really because it's boring and you have to write an eight page paper which sucks.
Yes, Mr. Cohen was a really good professor, but i would have liked him to do less group work in class.
yes! see reasons above
Yes, he has a good way of explaining the material that's engaging and interesting.
I would definitely recomment Mr. Cohen to students because he is one of those great professors in which he hardly have nowadays that is worth whiled taking. The course is great and very clear with assignments, and it is very useful material and to top all that the teacher is great.
Of course, I would, but maybe I would recommend them to take his FAMR in-class course, not online. That way, the students have a better chance to learn from him in person.
N/A
Yes.
I would definitely recommend Mr. Cohen to other students because I feel as if he was a great professor. The assignments and exams that he assigned really helped me learn the material. Also, by him giving students feedback promptly helped students learn how to improve or if they were headed in the right track. Mr. Cohen definitely shows really great qualities in the type of professor that students are looking for.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Funny guy. Good sense of humor. Plays great music before class starts.

He's a great teacher, with wonderful knowledge on the subject. The course work moves smoothly, not to quick, not too slow, and even though the class is 3 hours, you really don't feel like it is.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Communicates well with students.
Very encouraging and positive. Organized. Set syllabus early. Treated students like human beings by being flexible. I would like to take another class from this teacher.
I personally thought Mr. Cohen did a really good job on returning assignments on time. I really appreciated the comments that were left concerning our online posts. Another thing that I appreciate was Mr. Cohen was easy to reach, and promptly returned emails.
Communication with students.
Mr. Cohen knew a lot about the course and the subject and was able to relate it to things that are happening in the world which he, in turn, wanted us to be able to do the same. He aided in trying to make sure students were kept on track with the course by sending announcements on Laulima for all the students to read.
He was good at getting back to me when I had questions. He showed concern for the students.
Professor Cohen was very prompt on the date of assignments and responding back to emails.
Gives feedback promptly
Mr. Cohen's strengths as a teacher was his reflections towards our postings. He was insightful and was able to express his feelings freely about the subject. He was very prompt when it came to replying to students questions and comments. I really appreciated it.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I think Mr. Cohen was a great teacher. His lessons were helpful.
Find a way to encourage more class participation. Set clear rubrics and specific expectations for assignments ahead of time including current textbook material.
One concern that I had was missing points on postings. It wasn't clear why I missed some points and it would have been helpful to know exactly what I did wrong in order to make future corrections.
none
Because this was an online class I feel that I did not get any insight from Cohen on what he knew about human development. His resources were helpful but it would have been nice if we had lectures that he wrote and gave us some of his knowledge.
Since an online class would have some barrier to communication, I would suggest using the Mailtool on Laulima. I once had an instructor that used the Mailtool to email students. Emails would appear on Laulima but also were simultaneously copied to students' UH emails . I thought this was a convenient way to get info from the instructor because everything (Resources, Powerpoints, discussion board, emails, etc.) was located at one place. As for people who aren't as comfortable with Laulima, at least their UH emails also received the same message. Sometimes when I would miss an email on one website, coming across the same message on the other website helped out a lot. I think this would help students be on the same page as the instructor, especially when it comes to assignments and deadlines. Also, I suggest that anything having a deadline be indicated on the course syllabus at the beginning of the classes.
none whatsoever.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He did everything possible to make sure we were aware of what was due and when it was due.
Instructor responded to our concerns promptly and was flexible with assignments.
One way I thought Mr. Cohen showed concern for his students was we were able to makeup one post and exam, scheduled to our needs. This was extremely helpful because during a summer class, you're learning at such a fast pace that it is easy to become overwhelmed. That "breather" was well needed.
Professor Cohen would immediately reply to our posts. Either it was a question or replying to our homework.
He showed concern by sending announcements to remind us of upcoming tasks that needed to be completed.
He was always e mailing us and letting us know the schedule. If someone was missing an assignment e mails would go out immediatly reminding students to turn everything in on time.
He responses to our discussions were very courteous and fair. In other words, he knew how to response to our discussions.
He gives good feedback on where to improve on assignments
He always would comment on our postings and explained his thoughts about certain subjects.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes good online teacher
If you are committed to learning and thinking on the college level, then you will flourish under the guidance of this instructor. If you are not responsible for managing your time, then you will not learn as much.
Overall, I would recommend Mr. Cohen to other students. Although it was individualized learning because it was an online course, it was even easier because Mr. Cohen provided excellent feedback.
I spent a lot of time on this online class. Students wanting to take this class online during the summer should be aware if working a full time job. I was working part time and still spent most of my days working on homework. I would find it hard for someone working a full time job or students with children to complete every homework and study for tests.
Yes I would because he seemed to be well versed in the course but he is not one to take someone's hand and walk them step by step.
Yes I would I felt that he was a very simple teacher and for an online class it was not that difficult to keep up with assignments.
As this is an online course, I would recommend him to anybody without any reservations.
Yes. For the most part, he clearly explains what he expects in a posting assignment or course paper. He even included a rubric for the course paper, so I appreciated knowing what he was looking for and how he would be grading accordingly.
Yes! He is great at expressing himself. I wish more teachers would be able to expose their thoughts freely.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I enjoyed his class!
Nurturing educator, demonstrates wealth of knowledge and life experience
Overall, I felt that Professor Cohen was fair and spent a lot of time communicating with each student personally.
It was pleasurable having him as a teacher.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is very friendly with the students and is willing to see what others are saying.
He taught us the material very well and he knew what he was talking about.
Our class was very quiet, but he always tried to get us talking and participating with discussions.
I loved being in Mr. Cohen's class because he used humor in his lectures and always made me laugh and with that I would pay attention more. It wasn't just fact after fact expecting me to understand it all he actually asked for our interpertation on the information given. He is an excellent teacher.
Experience,
I liked that he showed us videos and also helped us understand the lessons better.
Knew the material, helped when needed
Mr. Cohen is very knowledgeable and makes the class fun. The combination of videos and PowerPoint presentations makes the material easy to learn. The group work was also helpful. In addition, Mr. Cohen always promptly responded to emails and voice mail.
knowledge of subject area, good speaking skills, engages the entire class,
good and concise instructor; encouraged group discussions and used his own personal experiences to relate to pertinent topics.
he considerate of his students and he understands our opinions and points of view.
Very personable and animated.
That he responed quickly to emails.
He is very clear and to the point. He also give good feedback on our post and responds quickly to our questions. This is really important when taking on-line classes and I appreciate it!!
He is very understanding and fair with his students. I have learned alot in this class.
he makes you think, and thats good. hes kind of demanding, in some ways thats good too
experience
Had passion for the material in this course.
Irvin Cohen didnt care enough to show us any stregnths. emails went un answered.
Mr. Cohen often provided additional insight into the course material. He made the class a postive learning experience.
As a teacher I feel professor cohen was very well educated in regards to subjects studies in this course. He was helpful and encouraged train my in a productive manner and respond to assignments with full and complete thoughts.
He would send emails and would update us on new assignments and what not
He is obviously very knowledgeable and it shows.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
Maybe to do other things other than lectures in class.
more group discussions =) or on the first day of school the class should introduce themselves.
I felt that his way of teaching is fine. He interacted with us and got us involved and I felt that he truly cared if we needed help or didnt understand something because he is always encouraging us to come talk to him if we did need help.
No changes.
provide more class/group activities on the first couple of days to provide students with a more comfortable environment so that their will be more communicating amongst everyone.
None
maybe be able to get the whole class involved. try find an alternate way of getting everyone to speak up.
Formal group project.
Im not going to sugest anything because if i fail this class im not going to take him again. I dont care to make any changes especially if there werent any done for me! I dont give a damn for the all the people going to take this class after me, they should go through what me and others have gone through this semester! I want to graduate and dont care about making things better for them just so they pass this class the first time and possibly grad before me. If they start paying for my classes then we have a deal.
show more interest in students if someone asks a question please be understanding because that they may not understand the materials that you provided, everyone interprets things differently.
nothing in particular
I suggest that he show more concern with his inneractions with his students. when we are confused please take the time to make us understand. Remember we are trying to get where you are. SUCCESSFUL!
Maybe have a schedule for when assignments are due due date calendar
The syllabus can be a little confusing. Perhaps using more "lamens" terms would make it easier to understand.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
If we missed as assignment or did bad on it, we would be able to correct and get partial credit back.
He told us that we could meet in his office if we had any questions for him.
he made deadlines for certain aspects of our research paper so we wouldn't procrastinate too much. For example, we had to make sure we showed him a primary source for our topic and checked if it was a proper source to use.
He encouraged us to come talk with him if we needed help, he would stop and ask if we understand what is going on while doing his powerpoints and such.
Posting reminders on laulima, asking if we have any questions,
He showed concern by telling us to always ask him for help if we needed any help.
helped if needed
Mr. Cohen made himself available for all his students for questions regarding the material.
Allows time for any questions or concerns students might have. Takes time to explain subject. Sends emails for upcoming events related to the topic.
he writes back to our postings for each chapter. he understands and writes back to us some positive feedback that will either help us out academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
He kept tabs on students not doing so well.
Nope. If its an online class then remind studnts that there is an exam comming up.
Yes (see above)
he was somewhat helpful, though i know from other students that he wasnt as nice.
sending messages
He showed zero concern.
He encouraged students to turn in papers, posts, articles etc before hand. He offered support and feedback to our posts. He allowed a proper amount of time for all assignments to be turned in.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. He is friendly teacher and I look forward to going to his classes
Yes because he is very knowledgable and he a good teacher to learn from.
Yes. He is a very helpful and friendly teacher. He is very easy to approach and ask questions.
yes i would. I felt that the class was a very laid back style but at the same time you are learning. He made it fun which is the best way to learn.
No. The teacher is not challenging enough
Yes, I would because he's a great teacher! :)
yes, everything is straight forward and if you need help he will help
Definitely! Mr. Cohen is a fun instructor and his teaching styles are interesting.
yes, He is a good professor and allows students to think for themselves.
i would love to recommend Irvin Cohen to other future students because he is a funny guy and is really most concerned about each students life and perspectives.
Yes. Good style of teaching.
Yes (see above)
Absolutely
yes, if you are only taking his class. no, if you are taking other classes with his.
Sure, class moves in a consistant pace
I would not recommend Irvin Cohen to other students. My reasons are that he showed zero teaching skills. He was a copy and paste instructor re-using old formats and just collecting his pay check.
Yes, the course was presented straight forward.
Yes, Professor cohen responded to questions within a timely manner. The course has a lot of difficult termonlogy and theories, but he helped to explain any questions that were asked. He is a great professor.
Yes. His course was very straight forward and I learned a lot.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is a good person and very nice and personable.
A very awesome teacher and I wish I had him for more classes.
Nothing else.
nothing in particular
Thank you for a good semester.
I would like to say a lot more about Irvin Cohens lack of teaching skills. But all I have are negative feelings toward this man. This was my worst experience ever on my journey of higher learning.
I enjoyed his class. I hope to be able to take another one of his classes.
18. Other comments:
Many times I would come to class and when I am trying to listen to what Mr. Cohen is saying all i can hear is the workers outside mowing the lawn and doing the weedwackers and it was very annoying and distracting. I didnt appreciate that at all. Here I am paying to learn and I cant hear the teacher. I understand that the grounds need to be taken care of.. but why does it have to be done during class hours. Its unfair to the students and teacher.
No other comments.
with the online course i was under the assumption that we had until sunday night to post our responses for the chapters but mr cohen required it by thursdays. for the other people in the course that are taking more than one class, and who work as well, im sure made it hard to read and write a good response.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He's encourages his student to think critically.
He was very helpfull and always gave great feed back.
Clear objectives and quick response to questions.
knows his material
I like how approachable he is, and willing to be helpful when problems or distress.
He is very organized. I have taken several online classes, and sometimes it can be frustrating when things are not easy to figure out. The whole class was clear and not to mention he is great at emailing the students back. I had to email him several times and he was very prompt in responding to me. I am a very busy person, so when he answered so quickly I felt less stress.
Professor Cohen is a motivating teacher. I felt like his teaching style for this online class encouraged us to think for ourselves and demonstrate understanding about what we learned in our discussion assignments. He was always available to answer questions, and encouraged participation.
Professor Cohen is very helpful in answering questions outside of class quickly. He grades and responds to our assignment submissions promptly and addresses any concerns immediately.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Clearer instructions for the final paper.
not to speak down to students, although he may know the material we are just learning
multiple choice answers to select from seem kind of tricky sometimes. words close in meaning. 'text' for paper was unclear. wish it said 'course text' b/c I ended up reading a whole extra book that I really didn't have time for, since I misunderstood 'text'
The expectations for the paper are in the syllabus, and for the most part they are clear. But I might suggest sending out an email to all the students, going over everything, and making sure that everything is understood. This would help in knowing exactly what is expected. Other than that, I thought it was a great course. A LOT of work, but I feel like I really learned a lot.
I can't think of any changes that would be beneficial.
Some of the questions on the exams are vague or just about things that do not stick in your head by reading the text and even the study guide. I'd prefer to see the main points and important factors in exams.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He would alway respond to emails and phone calls.
n/a
he followed up promptly by email. checked in with how we're doing. feedback.
Always emailing back right away, replying to the discussions.
Irv was always checking the site and his email and he would promptly respond. He gave us clarity and fair exams.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, he is very approachable and very wise.
Yes, I enjoyed the material and his instruction technique.
No, his expectations are set too high & his test questions are misleading it makes you doubt the material you studied.
yes. I didn't want to take the course, but glad I did. Also, nice experience to have a communicative professor, and who fllows up with us and checks in.
Absolutely. There have been times where I didn't even really know my online instructor existed because they just don't keep in contact with the students. I feel like I really got my monies worth. It was a great semester, and the teacher is great, too.
Yes, because I think he is a good teacher and I learned a lot in his class in a short amt. of time. (summer class).
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is great !!
nothing
I like the book he selected. So unlike a course I took with similar subject matter, but was offensively when actually studied. The book Dr. Cohen selected reflects well on him. Balanced and thoughtful. Also like the support materials he provides. It's a lot of info, but pretty well organized.
He knows a lot about the subject Human Development, and gave knowledgable input and helpful suggestions to all of the class via discussions in our online class. He encouraged us to think critically and absorb the info presented in the book.
18. Other comments:
:)
I'm glad it was mandatory I took the class! I learned a lot of helpful information, both personally and for my target profession.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Hes super knowledgable
Professor Cohen's strengths as a teacher is that he interacts with the students, such as asking students to gladly respond to any question or topic, rather than just talking to them and having them just listen. He's a professor who understands an individuals social life, like the subject he teaches on. If I had the choice to just sit-in the class to listen to him speak and learn about his subject again, I would love to do it. He's a great teacher/professor :)
made class interesting, engaged the class, set a nice learning atmosphere. was good at presenting the subject matter.
He is very understanding and he seemed to understand the area very well in order to help us when we had questions.
He was always answering questions very promptly. It was nice to know that I had a teacher who I knew wanted me to succeed.
He knows the subject area very well and is up do date with his email.
His experiences in the subject.
Took his course online. He's very approachable and easy to communicate with. He tries to enhance our way of thinking by asking probing and leading questions. He clearly enjoys this field of study and it shows in his communication.
Not sure. He is good at contacting you when you need assistance but other than thay there is little to no interaction with a teacher in an online class...
Helping us to prepare for tests
He seems to know his subject matter well.
He gave us all the tools and materials that were provided to help us to prepare for our exams.
Excellent communcation via the internet.
He was very helpful when it came to asking him for help. He provided me with a lot of positive feedback, and I really appreciated it.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
No change
I feel he has it together.
To be more helping with assignments such as the paper.
A lot of times when someone would try to say their opinion when answering a question, he always says to get the answer from the book. Yes, I realize it is important to make sure we are understanding the material, but I believe that sharing our actual opinions is important as well and should receive credit for that.
Have some sort of powerpoint or slide show to educate the students of the major points in each chapter. It should also include some sort of speaking.
More frequent grading and feedbacks.
It was hard in the beginning with the posting because it wasn't really clear what he was looking for. Once we got the hang of it, things got a lot easier.
None
Be more specific on what you want out of the students. if you're too broad, it leaves a lot of room for error.
Better directions for the research paper
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He either talked to us or emailed us if there was work due.
through contact by email, gave the impression that he wanted us to do well and gave us every chance to do so.
He gave me encouraging words that made me feel better and helped motivate me
I think that on the first few tests, most of the class had a hard time and that showed in the grades. He modified the study guides and made suggestions to use the power points and other resources which did make a big difference.
On top of his email at all times, replied very efficiently!
By sending emails individually.
I missed an online quiz and posting due to a family emergency. Once I realized my missed assignment and quiz, I emailed him and asked him what can be done. I didn't expect full credit and even expected him to tell me there was nothing that could be done. Surprisingly, he reopened the exam and assignment for me. I am grateful for that. During other emails, he imparts little bits of wisdom to me, such as "don't worry about what you should be doing or should be going, enjoy where you are now."
Posted memos once and a while
If we had any questions, he'd tend to them asap
He sent regular emails alerting the class on things that needed to be caught up.
Online classes are fairly new to me and other fellow students, but Mr. Cohen helped to clear the confusion by continuous instructions.
through announcements on laumila's home page
He would send emails informing us if we needed to do something for the class. If we didn't turn something in or we needed to re-do something he let us know and we had an opportunity to fix it.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because hes a good teacher. He knows his stuff.
Yes! Cohen is a teacher who knows his subjects and understands students along with interacting with them.
Yes,Made class fun
Yes, if you're more disciplined
I think that for the most part I would not. The book was good, but i didn't feel like he was better than other teachers.
Yes, especially those who want to take online class.
Yes. He is clearly passionate about his field and it comes through in the way that he tries to help his students understand and navigate the course. He really tries to help you succeed and gives you every tool to do so. If a student fails, they really did something horrible.
I don't see why not. But truly don't know him as a teacher.
yes because he is a fair instructor
I wouldnt recommend taking him for an online course because the expectations were not always clear.
Yes I would because he seems to be very knowledgeable about the subject.
yes, he is a very good online teacher
I would recommend him, because he really does care for his students and wants to see them succeed. He is easy to get a hold of when you need help with an assignment and other things.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Hes funny and he looks like Einstein.
liked his class
He's very kind and puts up a lot of resources. which is also helpful.
Thank you for the online lecture.

have a good summer
A class such as this is difficult to "grade". There is limited interaction n what can seem like unfairness in a class based of words on a discussion board...

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He made the class fun and easy to learn in. he also was very good about letting us get things in at a time that suits us.
Irvin made class light and open for discussion.
As a teacher Professor Cohen was very flexible and positive. His study guides were very helpful and everything on the test was straight from the book which was good because you didn't have to guess what was going to be on the test.
i loved the corrections because i leaned a lot from that.
He's fair in his grading methods, as well as assignments.
Some major strengths of this instructor was that he was fully knowledgeble of the topic he was speaking/teaching. And that he was fairly easy to ask questions and get along with. his grading scale is unique and i believe that all teachers should have the same grading scale as him.
Professor Cohen is a great instructor he explains everything thoroughly. He helps students when they need help. He practices different styles of teaching, he incorporates lectures, videos, power-point presentations, and group work. He is a great professor!
He's very informational with the way he teaches so it keeps this exciting and makes you want to know more about the subject. Mr. Cohen also was very reasonable and helpful when it came to grading and trying to improve in his class. He was realistic towards the behaviors of students (ie: latework, time frames, extra credit, raising test scores). He actually teaches and cares about whether we learn the course rather than jamming our brains full of information that he's supposed to teach us because its his "job."
Leading the students to the answers without directly telling them the answers.
Mr. Cohen is very knowledgable in his subject of teaching. I really like his way of teaching. He allows students to make corrections and improvements on papers as he believes its all apart of the learning experience.
He wasnt strict.
Explains the materials in different ways to assist our learning.
The instructor seems well-prepared and knows the material.
He's friendly to his students.
Prof Irv was very understanding and flexible to allow us to redeem ourselves when we do poorly on papers or exams.
Found humor is some things.
I like Irv Cohen. Not only is he committed to teaching the course material, he is committed to producing a better, more responsible citizen.
He is a great teacher; always prepared, friendly, outgoing, easy to understand and helpful. Overall, this is one of my favorite teachers I ever had (and I really mean this).
Very clear and caring.

18. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
i wouldnt suggest any changes.
n/a
I would suggest that he not be so lenient and stick to the syllabus- it seemed early on we strayed from it. I would also encourage him to be more creative with his lectures. I fell asleep during some and decided it was just better not to come to class.
I'd say that the lecture outlines should be altered to a more structured form, that helps students in a more effective way.
I would change the way the class is presented, that lecture would be more student interaction instead of just listening base teaching.
None
Nothing. Everything was prime.
Make class a bit more entertaining. Put humor, be creative in assignments and make it fun to learn so that others would want to learn.
Maybe less papers to write.
The study guides don't encourage actual learning and get very confusing. A different form would better encourage information retaining.
Watching the videos were interesting. It would be nice to watch more videos.
None, great professor!!
I do not believe he should be teaching any longer! He failed to explain what he expected from us and therefore could change his mind whenever he felt like it for any assignment. Most of his videos were inappropriate, mainly referring to sexual acts. He actually stated that "all religious followers should seek psychiatric help". Inappropriate!
No changes.
none
19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He always answers questions if we have any and he gives good advice on assignments.
Irvin always told us what needed to be done and if anyone needed help or questions to ask. He answered emails promptly and made assignments fair.
He had a very outgoing attitude and was very approachable.
he was always helpful. devoted his time after class every time.
He showed his concern by showing that he cared for our grades, and that he wanted us to be knowledgable and learn something on the topic we were learning. instead of just making us rememorize a bunch of random facts that most instructors tend to do.
He would let us know if we were falling behind.
Was leniant and understanding towards late work, not that it was encouraged, but it made it easier to show up to class empty handed without feeling embarrassed because I didn't feel like I shouldn't be there and be apart of the class if I missed a deadline. He also gave us many opportunities to raise our grades and understand the material to the fullest extent so there was no "gloom and doom" feeling if you happened to bomb a quiz. He humanized himself so we could feel open to asking questions or showing concern towards a bad grade, etc.
As stated above, Mr. cohen allowed us to make corrections and improvements. He also would go over lessons that we didnt understand. Mr. Cohen was very thorough in his teachings.
He gave us good chances at correcting our own tests to add extra points.
By having us do extra credit work for those who did poorly on exams or just needed the points.
Offered multiple ways to gain or regain credit, very flexible in turn-in dates.
He would go to the quiet students and interact with them.
He was quick to reply to email.
He didn't! He asked questions during class, but he never received answers because no one knew what he was talking about.
This is a stupid question. He made himself available to every student at their convenience; he is the most self-less instructor I have ever had...so how did he show concern? Well, he did bring tissues to class.
I do not really understand this question.
stayed after class for any questions students had.
20. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
i would because he was a fun teacher and i learned a lot from him. i am sure others would as well.
Yes, Irvin has a sense of humor and always tries to get us to discuss topics in class, relating it to real life and the material we were covering
Yes, if you want an easy grade.
Yes because hes fair with his grades and all students and to top it off, he cares for knowledge instead of pure memorizing.
Yes, I would suggest this instructor to students because he incorporates different ways of teaching rather than just lectures and taking notes.
Yes I would recommend this instructor because he made class interesting and learning easy since you could relate and discuss openly on the subject.
Yes, Good Learning Environment, Concerned Teacher, and Easy to Learn From.
Yes, I would definately recommend Mr. Cohen to other students as I had a great first experience with college being in his class.
Depending on that students. If students are more of independent learners, this teacher would be good. But those that know you need to be pushed, and want classes that are fair and fun, maybe not so much.
Yes I would recommend this instructor because he is available to help the students who need help. He also gives us extra credit opportunities. Although there is work involve as long as you study and do the homework you will be able to get a good or at least a decent grade.
Yes. If you do the work it's an easy class.
Yes. Because he is a nice instructor.
Yes because he really prepares you for exams.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! I learned absolutely nothing in the class, felt like I was wasting my time attending, but his only rule he held us to was the attendance, so you have to suffer through it.
I recommend this teacher to everyone. He was always very respectful and open minded toward different opinions and points of view. In addition, he was also very friendly, easy to talk too and extremely helpful with the questions.
Yes, Irv is a very good teacher.

i loved the way his tests were set up. it made it easy to learn what we needed to learn.
he did a great job this semester and I wish he was teaching next semester.
He's a very good instructor.
I had a great time this semester and hope I will be able to have you agian as my Professor
A added bonus was Mr. Cohen would email the whole class all lectures and study guides prior to class.
More videos would be good :)
-
Overall, he's a great teacher.
Needs to know what he's talking about before he tries to teach it - Sodium does not cause high blood pressure. Sexual references such as the old woman on the video who was taught how to please her man does NOT need to be demonstrated in class, asking the class if we know what "tossing a salad" means, again INAPPROPRIATE! I learned absolutely nothing from the class and would advise anyone against taking this course with this professor!
I was positively impressed by this teacher. His lectures were not just helpful for the class that I was taking, but for my future as well.
He tries very hard to be a good instructor. He wants his students to learn the material and does not believe in punishing them if they do not understand it.
