I honestly hate having to learn everything from a computer and the only way i was 'learning' was learning from the examples whenever i did wrong. i really disliked having everything on computer instead of actual learning from a teacher.
She's a great professor who actually help everyone! She does her best to make the students understand! This class is very interesting and very success! I learned so much from this course!
Thank you Mrs. Hirotsu For everything your the BEST!
I rather learn in a classroom with a teacher. Doing the online course you have to wait for an available instructor to get help. sometimes that could take a while. But learning on your own gets frustrating.
I wish Math 82 was offered in a lecture style way. I find it hard to do this self-directed learning due to my great lack of understanding of math. Even when I try to learn on my own, and get help I still find it hard to understand. I found that I excel better in a classroom setting in terms of math.
Great teacher. I would recommend to other future students.
nice teacher and very funny! great personality
Good class and the teacher was willing to help but she spent a lot of time talking about her own social life with some students and her voice could be heard so it was kind of distracting.
It was a good class to be in. Very self paced and Hirotsu always always always encourages us to not procrastinate, which I think alot of students, myself included, needs.

Professor Hirotsu is a very knowledgeable instructor that gives individual assistance when needed. The attention she has provided for all the students was immediate. When students had questions on specific problems she would sit with the student(s), explain and ensure that they understood what the solution was to the problem. If they did not quite understand she would spend the extra time to explain and show the process on how to solve the problem(s). I myself have experienced personally. Outstanding instructor that gives a 110% to the students.
Best professor I have had. Very personable and excellent professor.

14. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Professor Hirotsu was a joy to have this semester. She helped me succeed in passing Math 82, and showed genuine concern. What I didn't like was the ALEKS program. I think it sucked. There were numerous instances when the program didn't explain thoroughly how to do a topic, and so I was left stuck on the topic until I self taught myself. ALEKS also offers little incentive into doing each topic. After failing one question, the user is subjected into numerous attempts of the topic, and if they don't reach the criteria, will be subjected to keep on attempting the topic. Overall, I found ALEKS more time consuming and damaging than helpful in the learning process.
- this course is terrible especially due to the use of Aleks.com. - instructors don't really help. they just sit there until someone calls for help instead of teaching the class like a normal teacher would. - tutors in the math room are more helpful than the instructors. plus they are free. so the instructors are getting paid to do nothing. - we pay for a course and have to pay again to use the site. - too many topics to cover in semester. - the way aleks works does not leave you with enough time to soak in the material. then when it give you the evaluation you cannot remember how it is done. thus setting you back once again. its a merry-go-round. - Aleks.com is outdated. - Aleks.com uses Java, a terrible scripting program that causes too many problems for the computer. it leaves most computers open to viruses. 2 of my computers crashed because of it (one was recoverable, the other completely fried). even the computers on campus crashed. and can only run on internet explorer. - multiple students claim that it caused their computers to crash as well. - having the entire course revolve around the computer and the ability to connect to the web is a terrible idea. what I a student were to have no computer (crashed/cant afford/etc.)? or if the site when down? or any other problem with the tech.the student would be prevented from doing his work. - Aleks.com doesn't even stay up-to-date with the Java updates. twice I received the java update while Aleks.com did not update--which set me back 6 days worth. - does not show you exactly what was done wrong in your calculations or does not explain clearly. - should give explanations of problems (along all difficulties) before giving problem to student. - not all students can learn through a computer. - at the very least, the course should have the option between online course or in-class. - the periodic assessments do not help. they just set you back on or you progress just because you forgot a little thing that was covered so long ago in the program. if given a weekly assessment, it should only cover what has been cover that week. - if students are paying for a class, students expect there to be a teacher teaching the class. - students in these remedial courses that use aleks are obviously in the class because a teachers in high school couldn't teach them properly. therefore we need a real teacher in these classes to teach us what we never learned in high school. this course takes that away from us
Its ok
that from my opinion I would rather have to do work on paper rather than the computer. It would help me show my work better and rather to see steps on the internet is different than doing hands on meaning having a teacher performing the problem.
It was amazing. I learned a lot and really enjoyed it. Meryle Hirotsu was humorous yet helpful in class. She also would make sure to send out email notifications to keep her students on track. They were very helpful.
it was alright. the fact that this course was all on computer, you had to remember to do your work, rather then having someone telling you to do your work. the quizzes, also had to go in on your own time to take it. it's very hard to remember to do your math objectives, or to take your quizzes. it's easier if you have someone to tell you, or remind you to do your work or go in to take your quizzes.
It's okay I just hoped that there would be more instructor-student interaction.
The class was great, I have got to learn a lot of new stuff in math.
It was a good class but I didn`t take full advantage of it.
Great course for somebody who is independant.
I Thought it was really difficult to learn on Aleks because they only show you one way to do things and doesn't really explain thorough enough for me, i had to do most of my math in the math lab. But what i liked about it was we could do it whenever we were free to do it, and we had more than enough time.
You need to work very hard to pass. I don't like how everything is online. The assessments grade you in every mistake you make and it brings you down to re-do the topic all over again.
It was a great class. I had learned many things that I have not learned back in high school. Also, the Professor Hirotsu is knowledgeable with all the material that was taught.
I did very well in this course i had no prblems what so ever!!!!
