6. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
|
All the aspects of this course were valuable
Reading ;)
most parts were not defined enough, it is a independent learning class with hardly any feedback or interaction with teacher.
it was difficult to contact professor, through email, phone, or laulima.
Peer reviews and the discussion board. Instead of having student feedback on my rough drafts I would appreciate feedback from the instructor. I also don't think I or other students are qualified to advise on re-writing a paper. The discussion board is more like busy work than an actual learning experience. I take online classes for a reason, I am not interested in interacting with classmates, I simply want to get an education. I am not anti-social, just busy.
I did not like writing essays in this class because there were no specific guideline. Professor did not specify what was required to be in the essays so I assumed that it was pretty much a "free-write" type of thing. Horribly mistaken when I got a bad grade. Paper was well written with no grammar errors, but the things that I chose to put into my paper were graded harshly for an essay that did NOT have any specifications.

There was no need for me to pay extra money for the textbook with My History Lab as I did not use it all for this course.

Online exam had misleading questions that required review after to reaffirm course material while contesting debatable issues to instructor. Instructor was responsive however in prompt reply to any issues.

Be more organized
| Helpful suggestions for papers and/or topics would be helpful.
Sometimes students were penalized for bad papers or topics, however, when submitting drafts, the only corrections were made by our peers, which was not as helpful towards our grades we received. |
I like my courses which have all assignments including quizes available at the beginning of the course. That way I am free to work ahead incase something unexpected comes up.
Can you please specify EXACTLY what you want in our essays. We are pretty much writing in the dark thinking that our essays are okay because there are no guidelines set for us to follow. Then later when we get our essays back we have a bad grade even though our essays were technically correct with no grammar errors. We have written 2 essays so far and it has been like walking on glass because the first essay, we DID NOT know that our essay had to be written in a specific time period. On the 2nd essay there was a HUGE misunderstanding that the essay was either our choice or if it was about Islam and that misunderstanding was 3 DAYS before the due date. We submit out essay topic a month or so before it needs to be written, within that time if the topic is disagreeable or if you want us to include something in it, then it should be SPECIFIED. The gradebook is rarely updated. You give a lot of excuses. You took a MONTH to grade our first paper! The very first assignment, we had to introduce ourselves and respond to a classmate, BUT it was not specified in the syllabus and we were unable to contact you within that time to ask. Then later you said that some students did it, and some did not because many students did not understand the assignment. So that assignment should not even be counted towards our grade, it should be considered extra credit! This class is VERY confusing and is not operated well. Teacher does not answer student's questions in a timely matter. Disappointed in this class and regret taking it with this teacher.

| Only suggestion for lecture based instruction would be to include a large map for visual representation if electing not to use a ppt style. The absence of visual aids for specific learning styles/disorders can create distance quickly with the audience. For example, a large map near the front of class to illustrate troop movements, key locations and regions would assist in solidifying content.
Not to say the lectures were distracting, quite contrary, as once momentum was gained aural overview provided rich conceptual construction of events. |

17. What did you like most about your online course experience?
|
That I didn't have to go to a class room. I could just do my school work from home.
Very well organized.
It gives me the freedom of not coming in to school, I can still work and have my children time. Although sometimes it gets fustrating not having a instructor or not getting responces promptly.
nothing
Didn't have a set time I ended to show up to class, but still had interaction with other students through the class disscussions and in the forums which allowed me to enjoy other students papers and also in return in helpful and constructive critisism from my classmates. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful.
The interaction with other students was extremely helpful.
I can complete my assignments on my own time schedule and I don't have to waste time driving to the campus.

18. What did you like least about your online course experience?
|
There wasn't enough interaction between the students and the teacher.
Too much assignments and test to do every week.
For this course almost everything. It was boring, no interaction all discussions everyone had same answers.. Very boring and non-stimulating.
I didnt like that our teacher was hard to get a hold of
Not being able to go through the main points of the chapters in a lecture that would be beneficial to what will show up on exams.
It was hard to communicate with the professor, and I was unsure what was expected of me.
I could do without the discussion board and peer reviews.
Organization, not in control, students are constantly on their own to talk to each other about misunderstandings when we are ALL confused. Too much excuses.
tests were based on to many chapters at one time.
in this class in particular, communication with teacher was somewhat inconsistent
I did not like the Laulima because it was always timing me out and shuting me out.

the miscommunication, unorganization. The class in general.
Lack of communication
The exams were hard, even when each chapter was broken down and alotted more time the question were difficult for me. I had a hard time trying to studying every little detail in the book and with all time time and effort I put into studying it was not reflected in the grades I received on exams.
The papers because it was never clear what we were going to be graded on, besides the 5 page length minimum.
I disliked having peer reviews
the readings
| Online exam question content, structure/format is fine.
When nearly half of the course grade (totally 900 points from syllabus) looms in the balance of aptitude in performance, one is at the mercy of interpretation and cryptic decoding at times. |

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
|
8 out of 10. I would recommend this class and teacher to other people

Good.
It was alright
Not good, but not bad.
It was a good course, well planned out and the book used was easy and interesting to read.
Horrible experience. I will surely recommend students to NOT take this class with this teacher.

|
discussions.
Too long of tests.
none.
well this is my second time taking this class and i thought it would have been easier the second time around but honestly this course was alot more difficult for me to learn. It makes me wish that i didn't fail the first time. Its not the teacher it was just having to read and do quizzes online and write about something i had no knowledge about we learn throughout the semester but we had to find valuable information to write into pages through an essay. i dont like to write papers and i still could learn a few more things on how to write them. The book changed from the first time to this time and that completely threw me off track
I think this course is way too broad, bombarding the student with too much information to retain any of it. Textbook is poorly organized.

14. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
|
Explain the assignments more in depth like how he did in the chat room in the beginning; possibly in the course syllabus.
I can't judge a teacher on his teaching especially if it is online. They are made to instruct a class a certain way. Im sure he has been doing this for years and he knows alot more then i do. the only thing is that he made a few errors on the test he got the chapters mixed up. small stuff like that i know it was an honest mistake but for some people i throws them off because you can onlly take a quiz once other then that this class is perfectly fine
Please pay attention to details! Careless mistakes within this course were very irritating and made preparation more difficult.

20. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
|
not really understanding some of the assignments from the beginning and getting confused when others asked theirs.
Writing 3 long papers. When given a certain topic to write about its difficult to find usable information to put into 4 pages without plagiarism. maybe papers should be at least 2 pages minimum not 5 pages
The syllabus provided at the beginning of the course was inaccurate - so far as a major quiz being completely omitted. When taking chapter tests, sections were labeled wrong - you click on "Section A: Chapter 30" and turns out the test was on material from another chapter. Though the issues weren't major, there were enough of these careless mistakes to make the course very frustrating.
