13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I really enjoyed roy's class because he made me feel very comfortable and made learning a new language an enjoyable experience. He had lots of patience and conducted his class at a good pace which everyone could manage.
He knows ASL well.
Roy is a really good instructor because he makes the class a easy and comfortable learning environment.Even though there is a strain on the communication considering that he is deaf, i feel that is very understanding and patient towards students that have trouble communicating with him. He is always easy going and in a good mood.
He definitely knows the subject, and he is very helpful. He makes sure everyone participates, and he makes sure that everyone comes to class. He makes sure everyone understands the signs and the proper way to signing.
He's patient and understanding, makes it easy to learn. Creates a comfortable and fun learning environment.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
n/a
I don't feel like there are much things that i would change because i feel that they way that he conducts class is the best approach on teaching and learning American Sign Language
I suggest that he give us our exams back or our homework assignments and paperwork. If he doesn't want us to keep it, I suggest feedback and knowing what we got on the papers or exams would help.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He offered us extra help if we needed. Being that we were brand new students to ASL, I thought that was awesome. He also had us attend deaf events and was there to assist us if needed.
He made sure we all knew and participated with every sign. He got everyone on the same page by having us communicate with each other.
Shows interest in our lives and teaches us how to implement ASL in everyday life. Always understanding
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would definately recommend him to other students interested in learning ASL. He has the utmost patience for first timers.
I would suggest Roy as your instructor because hes very easy going and very easy to talk/sign with.
Yeah, definitely. Roy was a very good teacher. I loved how he always smiled, and put a smile on our face too. He knows what he's teaching and he definitely tries hard as a teacher.
Yes. He's the best language instructor I've had thus far.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is one of the best teachers I ever had.
Thank you for all you taught me. Because of Roy, I want to learn more and engage myself more in a Deaf community.

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
he is really good at what he's doing very nice and understanding.
Very good at getting us involved during class. He makes it interesting for us.
When I walked into class the first day, I didn't think it was possible for someone to teach a class without talking to us. It was confusing at first, but many of use fell into the mold right away. I can only imagine how much it takes to get across to the students, and Roy had a way of doing that. None of the other languages I've ever taken submerged you into it as much as ASL. You're doing it all the time, from day one. He really encourages you to use signing in class as much as possible, but if you can't he still allows you to write sometimes. Many time, it was his positive encouragement that gave me the courage to keep on trying to use sign language and not be afraid if it's the wrong answer. He would correct me nicely and move on, not make me feel dumb. That was what I liked about this class. Usually I'm scared to talk up in class, in case I give the wrong answer, but the class environment broke that fear and I was able to practice more and learn the language better.
He is very knowledgeable on not only ASL but the Deaf community and was able to shed light on the subject. He is funny and brings an simplistic approach to learning ASL.
I admire his ability to effectively teach a class being that the instructor is deaf.

18. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
nothing much
Nothing. I liked how the class was structured and I learned well from him. I wish he taught more sections though because I would like to keep the same teacher but my class schedule conflicts with his one class.
AIR CONDITIONING
19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
he does he sign asking us how we're feeling every time we have class which also help us with the signing
He goes around individually during drills in class to make sure that we're all doing the signs correctly and he tells us funny stories to help us remember the signs. He also teaches us other things that aren't in the book, like cultural normalcy and daily conversational signs. It's a huge plus for anyone that's looking to use sign language to communicate with relatives or friends. He teaches us not only the proper way from the textbook, but also in the more native dialect. Roy was a very kind teacher, and it was because of that I was never afraid to ask questions if I was lost or confused. He never put anybody down and was very supportive of us as first-timers. Learning a new language is already difficult in itself, and his care, consistency, and most of all patience, really helped me (and a lot of others in class) get the most we could out of the course.
Instead of explaining something in a way that would be convenient for him, he explains the best way for the student to absorb the material.
As where student was and for what reason if student missed a class.
20. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes because he understands if we need to take class off or you'll if your late just need to tell him before hand.
Yes, he makes things very understandable.
Yes, I really enjoyed having Roy as my prof. He went at a good pace for me to pick up on sign language, and he made the classroom environment a fun place to learn. I don't mean this in a disrespectful or inappropriate way, but he was very knowledgeable in his subject area. He wasn't just proficient at ASL because he was deaf, but he was also well-versed in the deaf culture and taught us what he did know of sign language around the world. If the class were taught by a hearing person, there's no way I would've gotten as much exposure to the language as I did in this class. Complete exposure and submersion in the language is pertinent in retaining a new language, and Roy was able to offer us that insight.
Yeah. Read above.
Yes! Student is guaranteed to learn from the course, since instructor is knowledgeable of the deaf community/culture through personal hands-on experience.
21. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
hes super nice and kind. i am taking his class next year for ASL agian.
Very good.
I'm glad that I had Roy for my 101 professor. He was really fun and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. Again, I never thought it' be possible for me to learn without speaking, but he has proven me wrong and I'm pretty decent at sign language now. :) I look forward to taking his 102 class in the Spring!
