6. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
|
| Learning to set up a year long research project was valuable. Also, the experience of searching for and changing/altering research topics and mentors was another challenge/ |
| Frank Stewart's flexibility and willingness to help students individually was very valuable. Perhaps more so was the way in which he fostered a classroom community that was cohesive helped students therein with developing their projects and overcoming obstacles. |
| The support from the peers and teachers was amazing. It would have been
really hard to get up in and do the speech at the symposium without them ! |
| The most valuable aspects was meeting as a class and community to work
through our ideas. It really gave us a sense of support and others with whom
we could share our work with. It also gave us a chance to bounce our ideas
off of each other and articulate our ideas better. Just really learning how
to network and work with each other and gain our individual ideas. |
| the group participation and interaction. I think that the blog idea was a great tool in this course as well |
| The Spring Symposium, even though it was such a challenge was a great experience. I also learned
to use UH research databases and library resources that I previously did not know about. Both these
things will probably help me for the rest of my life. |
|
|
7. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
|
| This class could have met once a week; the extra day would have been good actually to do research. |
| Sometimes in class it felt like we were wasting time especially in the
beginning of the semester, later though class began to help me a lot. |
| The least valuable... we never have enough time! Sometimes I felt we went off
topic, although the things we talked about were important (ahem,
environmental economics). |
| I would have liked better communications with the honors program as a whole and between the director and instructor. |
| Sometimes I felt like the time would have been better spent if we just didnt have class and were
able to work on our projects instead of just talking about them. |

15. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|
| N/A |
| I would have liked to discuss the course readings a bit more in class. |
| I just wish we had more time during some phases of our research process. I
also think that we could have utilized our community website better, like
really commented on each other's work and post more things on there. I hope
that we can and will use it more in the future, but there hasn't been enough
emphasis on using it as a tool and way of communicating. If we could use it
like facebook, it'd be great! |
| perhaps make this a part of a larger comunity of honors students. |
| In the very beginning of the course we should have started brainstorming ideas right away instead
of reading random books and having random discussions. I felt when we had to say what idea we
were formulating I wasnt prepared because I hadnt been focusing on that, but instead required
readings. |

|
| Prof. Stewart was an amazing facilitator/mentor for this class. |
| Awesome class. I just wish the community will continue until I graduate! |
| the blog wite was a great idea, perhaps maybe get one with a live chat so if someone needs help or ideas there is a place to go outside of class hours. |
