13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Lots of individual help
Her major strengths are her ability to speak to the students on the students level. She carries a lot of experience under her belt, and give's her students the inside scoop of the inner workings of the world of animation.
Having once been an active part of the industry, it is obvious that Mrs. Takiguchi has a professional eye for what makes a good animation.
Verbal feedback and helping others in Digital Animation
fair enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
She is a little green around the ears, this being her first class, but she seems to know and understand the subject. I would say her strength would be letting students understand what the project/assignment is for and what is needed to pass.
She likes to emphasize the animation principles in homeworks and projects.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Make grades available online, and give more clear examples of each assignment, since sometimes the purpose of the homeworks was not made very clear until after they were turned in.
More time to examine and study the principals of animation

I suggest Cherise to be very nice and be supportive to NMA first year students and not get offended by student's assignments.
lots of work from this class, sometimes i felt that the deadline was just a little bit too soon. especially considering the steep learning curve. created a very sink or swim kind of atmosphere. those who got left behind failed to grasp the fundamentals became so entrenched in their mistakes that when it came to executing the more complicated projects they were at a severe disadvantage. this should ever be the case.
I would say work on the class lectures so that they don't take more time than need be. The written form is fine, but the verbal needs a little work.
Instead of asking students to come up to her for grade inquiries, I think it would be a better idea to go ahead and email us our current grades.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She showed concern by encouraging students to participate in class, and helps students succeed, one on one.
Particularly, this student had a lot of troubles, so Mrs. Takiguchi was nice enough to check on me every now and then. However, even she can only do so much, so whatever I ended up getting for a grade is pretty much my fault in letting certain things get to me.
She showed concerns about every student's mistakes in Animation. She want everybody who didn't finish one of the homework assignments to be completed as a revision grade. She also recommends students to participating in Animation guest speaker lectures.
was always available for help. email or an arranged video chat
She took the time to sit with each student that needs help and walk them through any problem that they had.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Of course I would! Cherise Takiguchi is one of the best teachers in KCC.
Mrs. Takiguchi is definitely someone I would recommend as a teacher who knows her area very well. Just try to keep up as best as you can and definitely do not procrastinate! If a student thinks/experiences troubles he/she has in any of the class, especially this fast paced one, I would definitely recommend to either resolve the problem(s) as quickly as the student can or don't stop working hard and seriously ask the teacher for help catching up!
I'm going to say maybe because she still needs to do well in her teaching efforts. She is a first timer to work at KCC but It's hard to cooperate with her about how strict she is with us.
a great teacher overall. definitely recommended.
I don't have any friends to recommend... :(
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I really enjoyed this class. I felt the pace of the class was good, and I wish we could have gotten to working with animating expressions too!
She has a keen sense of humor, and the ability to speak words of wisdom and experience for hours on end.

I would like to say, Digital Animation is a fun class because working with Ultimate Bony rig show more depth and movement on the whole body and playing around with acting poses is an important role in the Animation Industry.
i liked all the animations that cherise showed. after learning all of the things that i learned in this class, i looked at them very differently.
Considering that this was the first college class taught, I think Cherise did a pretty good job.

20. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Learning the pose to pose method of animating.
The 12 Principles of Animation. Good friends. Laughing beats Boredom any day of the week...even Monday and Wednesdays! Adding weight begets believability.
Learning the 12 principles of animation, was a definitely helpful tool to learn. These things are also applicable to my limited experience in 2D animation, but despite the fact that I didn't always end up with the best results, I feel as though I now have a better grasp and understanding of these principles thanks to Mrs. Takiguchi. I learned to take better account of these principles in future animation projects.
I find it helpful to have second year animation students to help me through rigs because it's a harder step to compete with Maya. Feedback from students is a good way to solve problem on where corrections needed to be fix.
how to use maya
I would say the books and animations suggested helped give a better understanding of what is expected in the industry.

22. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Ms. Takiguchi has been ready and willing to learn to be a better, more effective teacher. I'm sure if there's a better teaching style, she will find it eventually... or she'll talk someone out of it.
The main issue for me was the pacing of the work, however, due to personal problems that led to bad work habits, I cannot say my answer would be a very legitimate response to take from this survey. Honestly, that would probably mean she would have to take out one or two of her projects/assignments. However, I felt that all of her assignments were very important to learn, so I can only imagine how difficult it will be to possibly have to cut a part of her curriculum for the next class.
To be honest, I found out her strentghs and weaknesses in the Digital Animation class. First off, she needs to work on time consistency on the HW and PRJ assignments. There needs to be at least four-five weeks of assignments to do on animating rigs in Maya than doing four days of animating and practicing rigs. She needs to post DUE DATES on Wednesday than Sunday because it's too early to make certain corrections from the four day period. Time is moving too quickly and she needs to be aware and understand time consistency better! Secondly, she needs to pin down tutorials for Maya just like what Jake usually does for ART 202 and 126, which she successfully did on HW2 but not for the rest of the HW and PRJ assignments. She needs to explain clearly on the HW2 tutorial on where to click the icon menus from Maya because Maya is very powerful and forgiving. Third, she needs to work on explaining the HWK Descriptions better because there's too much documentation on her wording. She need to pin down highlights for DUE DATES and important procedures as well! Although she successfully did in the final PRJ2 description. She needs to make her documentations double spaced and shorten her paragraphs nicely. The HWK & PRJ Descriptions with helpful suggestion of Rigging, Walk Cycles, Follow Throughs, Poses, Acting and Video References should all be in the ANIME 01 monitor instead of Laulima because it's easier enough to get the files in stick it to hard drive and Laulima has so many files so she needs to be aware about how much she upload her files. Fourth, as a lecturer, she has to be a positive role model in her teachings. Sometimes, she sounds like she was offending studentâ??s name conventions and it was one of my problems when she didnâ??t upload my playblast was the naming convention. She has to help others on how to name conventions properly than just doing it yourself. Fifth, she needs to grade us promptly than having a low D minus. Feels like the students and myself are struggling in Animation with no moral support or help. Please in the near future be respectful about grades and extra credits. I hope for the future that she will improve her teachings better by making simple planning on DUE DATES and simple descriptions, less wording than a lot of detailing, uploading files on ANIME 01 instead of Laulima and having a positive atmosphere with students with moral support.
This is just a suggestion, but maybe she could provide us with power points of pdf files with notes when doing lectures.
23. Other comments:
She has a great smile, and looks like the older sister from Despicable Me.
To be honest, the only reason I felt didn't do as well in this class as I had hoped was because of personal things I had dealt with that led to my own downfall. I wished I could have shown to have been a more dedicated, hard working, and less reclusive student/person that I felt I fell away from for the majority of the semester due to said problems. It really was a huge behavioral change for me that was not suitable towards achieving the intended results for the class. Although the teacher was obviously concerned for me, said problems were not things that could be quite understood to most people. Still, I feel I have to apologize for not demonstrating myself as a more exemplary student and essentially pushing away a lot of her help during said times. I wasn't being very professional about letting my problems and bad luck, no matter how obscure and difficult they were, affect my person as well as my work habits. It saddens me that I don't have another semester to redeem myself now that my problems have been resolved. Nonetheless, I honestly felt that she was a wonderful teacher and I hope she gains more success and respect in her teaching position. At the very least, she was definitely a wonderful person to have taught under.
Just hope everything will be better next year when she teaches Digital Animation to the next first year students.
