19. If you were teaching this course: a. What would you do to improve it? b. What would you change?

I would not do nothing to this. try to keep the class awake. I wouldn't change anything. a. I think John Cole does a great job teaching History, outlining the notes that we are to take for the day, and offering assistance to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Maybe he could make more visuals such as writing more notes on the board or something like that, because sometimes he went a little fast and it was difficult to write all the important stuff down. b. maybe a group project or two? because it brings the class more together and offers students a chance to even out their workload when they rely on other students for help and completion of a project. The thing that I would improve about this course is that I would make sure that the students understand the material by writing notes on the board. and I would change the way a lecture is taught. History is a very hard class and not many people like it.,.if i were the teacher i will come up with all different activities such as group work, and other things instead of just lecture all the time!!,.. also, not many people learn by just listening!!,.. I dont feel I could measure up to his teaching methods. I wouldn't change anything. It was great. I would try to be more student oriented. Not everyone learns in the same manner. Not everyone can test in the same manner. I would see what methods of teaching and testing work best for each particular class. I would allow notes on the test. It is alot of material to remember and the ability to use notes would improve the ability to prove the comprehension of knowledge. I would do nothing, he has his own way of teaching and I enjoyed it.

20. What do you think of the teacher and his/her teaching methods?

I think he is a great teacher. boring, but makes his point clearly. It is hard to teach history (well, it would be for me) and I believe he taught efficiently. I think Cole teaches a great amount of information at one time, and I definitely learned a LOT from this class. He talks a lot, which is okay, and I love the slides he shows. He really knows what he's teaching, and seems very passionately about teaching his material. Plus he's kinda funny sometimes : ) I think that he has some valuable insight on the material but I had a hard time to understanding and trying to take notes while he is talking. not useful!!! I feel his teaching methods are great. His class is fun and extremely educational. I knew a very small amount about world history until I took this class. Very old teaching methods. Not very helpful. I enjoyed the packet outline. I would just like to see smaller assignments rather than making the grade for the course mostly composed of the test material. Great teacher, knows his stuff, and he gets the point across.

21. Has he/she contributed to your general knowledge or to learning job skills?

I learned important dates. Some stuff I should know. Yes. I would definitely recommend to my sister (who is entering HawCC in about 2 years) to take his course. very much. I took him in HIST 151 as well, and that class has helped me succeed in this class. I really enjoy his class most of the time. not really!! He assisted me in better note taking, organizational skills, logical thinking, sentence structure. Because the content of the course is so condensed I can barely recall what I learned at the beginning of the semester. Yea he has. In History? Yeah, I have learned more from him about History then even the History channel. (LOL) He I was to become a history major, it would be because of him.

none. Great job teaching! I enjoyed your class (as much as you can enjoy a history class, anyway, haha.) All teachers need to be a little flexible in order for students, at least the ones who show that they are trying, to grasp the material. Interesting course. I highly recommend Hist-151 and 152 to any HCC student.
