9. Other comments:
|
| The instructor is very productive with student concerns, and he addresses all
topics clearly. |
| Loved this class! Learned a substantial amount and was able to draw more
connections between things occurring in the Middle East and the factors that
led to the changes.
Bravo! |
| Ibrahim is an excellent professor. I had a rough start to the semester with a major illness and he went out of his way to keep me updated and in the loop of class activities so I didn't get too far behind. With his help I was able to catch back up to the rest of the class. Going into this class I knew NOTHING about the middle east besides what I see on the news. It was a big eye opener and broadened my view of the middle east. He was also very funny and made his class more interesting than I anticipated. |
| Professor Aoude is very knowledgeable and helpful. |
| Great class and great professor. As a political Science major who recently added Ethnic Studies as a
second major, Ibrahim has been great not only as a professor, but also has an advisor helping me
navigate through the new requirements of the ES department. I highly recommend Ibrahim to anyone
and everyone interested in the Middle East or Ethnic Studies. |
| I took this class without much expectation, however I learned more than I would have ever assumed.
It broadened my view on politics in the Middle East and I learned that one should considered the
actions of countries like the US on lesser developed countries especially those in the Middle East. |

17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
|
| A very knowledgeable and helpful instructor! |
| Very easy to talk to and meet with. Classroom always engaging. If we didn't
know the answers or did not understand a point correctly, he explained it
again with other examples and did not make us feel bad for not grasping ideas
100%. Also, he was very open to free speech and opposing opinions. |
| He is a great teacher. I learned so much. The topic is so timely. Everything about the course was great. I had to stretch and the course is not easy but I had a great time. I will always remember what I learned. The Professor has so much knowledge. He doesn't tell you what to think. He lets you come to your own conclusions. I am so happy I took this course. |
| This course was very informative. I will even continue to read the assigned
books annually for stimulation... |
| Great. Being a local from the Middle East, he gives his own explanation, along with some historical contest, about eh situations in the Middle East |
| Excellent professor. |
| Dr. Aoude is an excellent professor. He is entertaining, knowledgeable, and always available if you
want to discuss an assignment. He is very generous with students in the sense that he gives a lot of
opportunity to do well in his class.
His person connections to the subject matter he teaches do not interfere with the balance of this
class. He gives a contrapuntal analysis of all subjects, and I really appreciate that. |
| Professor Aoude is very enthusiastic about the course and encourages students to ask questions
and explore new topics. |
| I am grateful to have gotten to know Ibrahim and absorb some of his extensive knowledge on the
pressing subject of the Middle East. He is the type of intellectual who is able to take something so
complex and daunting and make it approachable to students who are intimidated by it. Ibrahim is
someone I hope to know and learn from far beyond this course. |
| He is a very passionate professor who feels strongly in a student having an interest in what they are learning. |

| This course was educational and worth taking! |

analytic, and deeper view of the Middle East and the world. |

| This is an excellent course, and should be required for more majors and programs. American
students can learn a lot from Dr. Aoude about their government and the things done in our names,
and with out money overseas. |

21. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
|
| Entitlement of our own opinions |
| I really liked student presentations because it made learning easier. it also
helped to better understand class readings. i also like current events
because it let's the class know what's going on in the middle east. |
| Learning more about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. |
| current events. historical connections to issues affecting our times that i never understood/was aware of before. great case issues. |
| The readings assigned were incredibly interesting and it increased by understanding and changed my viewpoint on issues and conflicts in the Middle East. |
| I like the fact this course challanged the mis-education that American citizens have been indoctrinated with. The professor presented information from all perspectives regarding issues surrounding the middle east, and was not biased. He often kept his person opinions to himself, and stated that he was neutral on certain issues. |
| The readings and open discussions. Also, the map quiz was a lot of fun. |
| The current events were great. |
| Just learning more about the Middle East. |
| Discussion of Orientalism. |
| The oral presentations for both chapters and our final paper were good. The presentations on the final paper were very interesting... it was nice to see the interest of others in our class. |
| The History of the Middle East, and its current politics and economy. |
| This opened my eyes to a great amount of controveries going on and it had prepared me to embrace the outcomes of the future. The knowledge I gained will allow me to take an extra step forward beyond everyone else who hasn't encountered this information. Most of all, I enjoyed how Professor Aoude is so halarious. He has some awsome come backs / jokes. |
| This course blew me away by its content within. |
| I enjoyed our presentations, they helped me to become comfortable with my classmates. I also
liked looking into topics that the media does not always cover, it really opened my eyes to what
is going on in the world. I also like that we can have opinions and discuss them in class, the
environment was friendly, the discussion was applicable not only to school but to life.
I also liked the professor, there should be a box where we can comment on him, but there is not.
He was not only knowledgeable of the material for the course, but he also knew above what I
expected him to know. He knew the most interesting dates for different wars in the Middle East.
He knew so much, I rarely saw him refer to notes, it was very natural for him to teach us. I think
if the class had a different professor, it would not have been as good. I am WAY more ready to
learn from someone who knows the topic, and he knew it very well! He also helped to guide us
in our projects and was very available for meeting with us outside of class to organize our
thoughts and ideas. |
|
|
22. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
|
| The Said Reader was the least enjoyable due to the fact that it discusses mainly theory. |
| none |
| Although student presentations are good in that it forces the student to learn the material well enough to teach and I realize that it is out of the teachers control on how well students present, but many of the student presentations were so boring and horrible that it was a complete waste of time that could have been better spent doing something else. |
| I would have loved to have more guest speakers from Mddle East. |
| Current events often ended up just being presented for discussion by the instructor. Which was not bad, but the class did not always have many opportunities to discuss single topics openly.
Honestly the instructor knows a lot about the subject that is always very obvious but I think sometimes he talks about topics that might be very constructive and intellectually challenging for the class to discuss and think about. |
| I don't think there was anything about the course that I didn't like. |
| the short turn around towards the end for our papers. |
| There were no videos in the beginning, only until people's presentations. I think if videos were used, the class would be more attentive and engaged in discussions. |
| maybe... speaking in front of people. |
| Nothing.. only the room was very small and the door is a little broken, these are facility issues. The
CLASS was wonderful! |
| I didn't care for the guest speakers we had. They were really radical in their thinking and forced their ideas and ideals on us instead of just presenting facts.
Also, I didn't like the integration of the subject of religion. This wasn't a religion class and so I thought we spent too much time on it. |
|
|
23. What changes would you make in the writing assignments?
|
| Nothing. |
| The writing assignments were essential in better understanding the course
readings and makes the student think more analytically. |
| None |
| none |
| None |
| None. |
| Writing assignments were great. I would not change anything because I can tell the instructor has tried many different methods and this one has worked out best. |
| Nothing. They seemed fair. |
| Would be better spread more evenly across the semester. |
| nothing. |
| None, equally challenging yet simple enough to do if organized. |
| I will prepare for it a lot earlier. Because its not easy!! Though I must say it was kind of fun as well. Learned a lot... |
| I wouldn't make any changes. The assignments made sense. We were able to apply what we
learned reading the materials and explain different themes presented. |

24. My overall evaluation of this course is...
|
| highly recommended |
| The professor has a lot of knowledge in the course subject/material and made
it comfortable for students during discussion. |
| Great course, I was able to gain a lot of knowledge and insight about the Middle East and its people. |
| GREAT! THANK YOU Professor Brahim!!!! |
| Great! It is a course that everybody should take, especially considering the global climate of fear and tension in regards to the Middle East and Muslims. |
| it was excellent, it's the perfect course to take, at this moment, especially since this country in is the middle of fighting two wars with on end game. |
| This course helped me to develop a deeper understanding of the course cirriculum and contributed to an interest in learning more about the topic. |
| Very positive course. I think that it should be broken down a little bit as a lower level class (maybe less about the Palestinian Question) and then reinvented as an upper level or advanced topics course. |
| I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wanted to learn more about the Middle East. |
| An excellent and very relevant class. |
| it was a good course, i would recommend it to other students and would take another course taught be this professor. |
