19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Her enthusiasm for the course material and the study guide she provides.
Amy was always prepared and knew what she was talking about, class time was never wasted. She presented material in a way that kept the class intrigued and always kept our attention.
She is very energetic and clearly loves her job which makes her class enjoyable!
She made the class so interesting and related all the information to us.
Examples given to help better understand the materal.
Being Amy. Amy has the ability to make it appear her class is easy because of how slowly and concisely she explains her material and then the exams come in and to remember all of these little, simple ideas in class starts to challenge me.
She was able to explain everything during the class extremely well. She knows exactly what she is talking about, and she is very, very passionate about her work as well as teaching.
She has a great personality. She is very joyful and kind. Her lectures are structured very well.
How I could use what I have learn and apply it to my everyday life with my romantic partner.
I really like how she made the content of this class very relatable. Although there were moments when I was confused, she didn't make students feel stupid for not getting the topic. In fact, she elaborated what she meant to help students better understand the content. Overall, it was a fun class and Amy definitely made this class a class I wanted to come in.
She was willing to go over things again and had good examples of everything we talk about in class.
she is nice and knowledgable about the topic
She has a great energy in the class and she's a great professor.
She always took time out to talk and explain and misconception or misunderstandings you had on a topic
I think what was most valuable and helpful about Amy Hubbard was that she gave us a awesome, detailed and specific review guide to what was going to be on the exams! But at the same time, she made it easy to learn a lot more than just the things that she tested us on. Her power points, lectures, activities, videos and teaching style was really effective! For the most part, lectures were clear and she was open to answer questions if we needed clarity. I feel like I learned so much after every class and it was fun and interesting!
I think that having students talk to one another about what they were learning really helped reinforce the material and kept the students engaged.
I loved how she made the class very engaging and interesting. I especially loved the video examples when it applied to class material. I enjoyed her enthusiasm and kindness.
She was always willing and available to help students outside of class time. It is clear she cares about her students and wants them to know and understand the material and do well.
I loved that she was available and before moving onto new concepts/ideas she made sure everyone was on the same page. Dr. Hubbard created a very pleasant and comfortable environment from day one which overall helps students break out of their shells.
Amy is very willing when it comes to discussing Interpersonal Relations. She makes the material interesting and enjoyable.
Her awesome personality
Amy is extremely organized, helpful, and sincere. She understands that she is a hard professor and embraces that idea. In my opinion, she is really here to test and better the elite because the mediocre will fail her classes. There are multiple students in each class that I've had with Amy that think they don't have to study for her exams and fail. Amy understands that this happens to multiple students every class she has, and she appears to have come to terms with it. Most other professors probably only have the occasional one or two students that slack off and fail their tests. With Amy, there are anywhere between eight and ten students that fail any given test because they take Amy lightly. This is a good thing because it weeds out the week and allows for the elite students to shine.
Amy always asked for students' examples and related the course material back to the class for the most effective way of learning.
I think the fact that Amy was so passionate about teaching made it easier for me to learn. Her class was very fun and interactive and it made it easier to learn.
She was always well prepared for class and ALWAYS kept class fun and interesting... so much that this is the first and only class that I never wanted to end. I always looked forward to coming to Amy's class!
She is understanding and very accommodating towards her students. It shows that she genuinely cares for the well being and education of each person in the class.
Getting the class involved in discussions and concepts of material.
her organizational skills are exquisite
The basis for creation and dissolution of relationships was very valuable and helpful to me. It helps apply techniques of both to real world relationships.
She is so energetic about teaching so it helps me focus on the lesson plans because she wants to be there and it helps me want to be there.
She is a great teacher and very passionate about her subject but her tests need to be studied for.
Very positive with everything she did
She loves to talk about her subject of expertise. And I love how she has personal examples of about almost every topic in class. I found it very helpful that she posted the power points ahead of time so I could follow along during the lecture and take notes of the side conversations that are not on the power points.
Her upbeat attitude is admirable.
Her willingness and ability to go further into detail about any tangent of any topic for the purpose of making it easier to grasp the concept
Dr. Hubbard works hard to inform students on the course material and class assignments. She organizes the class thoroughly, which i believe is imperative for a teacher.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I dont have any suggestions, her teaching is very straight forward and clear.
-Speaks REALLY REALLY fast, sometimes it is hard to write everything she says.
Nothing. Professor Hubbard is one of UH's best teachers they have!
Maybe shorter video clips to emphasize a point.
Please don't trick the students. There are times where it's okay, but wording, especially for me, gets mixed up. I misinterpret things a lot and tricking me only helps me get a lower grade.
The only request I have is maybe adding a little more to the powerpoints that she uses in class. Although she explains each point on the slides throughly during class, it is almost impossible to not only remember all that she has said in each class, but also to write down everything she says in class because of the pace in which she talks. I just believe it would be really nice to still have an idea of what each point on the slides are, even without her telling us because it really is hard to catch everything just in class, and the book isn't always crystal clear either.
Amy is sort of picky when it comes to grading. Also, having an average of less than 70% for exams and being proud of that is not something I find redeeming in a professor. I'm not saying that professors should have easy exams, but she seemed to be happy that a majority of people do not do well on her exams. That is disheartening.
Nothing.
Possibly reminders about assignments/projects to help promote student productivity... I understand it's college and that we have to independent but a small reminder that something is due soon would be awesome :)
Sometimes the class goes on and on about a single topic. Sometimes it would be helpful to not have people give as many examples for things.
I thought the course was a bit challenging because of how particular the requirements are
None, Professor Hubbard does a great job!
Just continue to interact and help all student with what they might not understand
Honestly, I don't think there could be any improvements. I just can't think of anything. Maybe talking slower? But since there's so much to cover, I understand why she has to talk fast. And she suggests asking questions in order to slow her down anyway.
There are always ways to improve but I cannot think of any for this class right now. It was a pretty good class.
Perhaps less work load when it comes to major projects. It gets pretty hectic with so many different schedules in group projects, so either something less elaborate, or perhaps adjusting the requirements of certain projects. :)
I think her teaching styles are effective and don't need much improvement. Sometimes the class discussion might get a little too off topic, but Professor Hubbard manages to get it back on track well.
I don't see how this course can be improved. I loved having three exams, a break-up song analysis project, and short assignments to help us better understand the material.
Amy is just an amazing professor she doesnt need to improve much on anything.
Not let other students be the center of attention
Please don't rush the notes. Often times the class wastes class time by choosing to talk about many topics and student upon student will raise their their hand to say something. This wastes valuable note taking time. You know this, and often times choose to rush through the notes so you can say you technically lectured the material. However, when you rush through your skeleton outlined notes, we can't keep up and understand what each vague term means by itself unless we have your explanations. Bottom line, it would be nice if you informed the class no more comments so that people who actually take notes can have the time they need to write things down. If the class has the floor the whole class, the notes don't get done and all we hear are students' opinions on each topic. This basically is not important to me because everyone is right in their own shoes, and I only want to hear the actual research findings that can only be presented through the lecture. I understand the need for some classroom discussion, but it needs to be less so that we don't have to rush through the notes. Seeing that we are going to be tested on the notes themselves and my grade relies largely on the test scores, I really only want to get through the required Power Points at an adequate pace. I could care less about what every other student thinks and wants to say in front of the class because we are here to get through the material not say everything that comes to our heads.
Sometimes Amy came across as condescending. Other than that she was usually very bubbly and enthusiastic about the course and made it interesting.

I honestly cannot think of anything I did not enjoy, or felt needed improvement in this class. If I must be really critical, I would have perhaps liked an example or specific guidelines of how to format the group project paper.
Lots of noisy people towards the back of the class, had trouble listening at certain points.
I cant think of any!
Sometimes she talks so fast it's hard to write down what she is saying, so sometimes slow down a little bit.
N/a
let everyone know at the start of the semester it's a hard course
I don't have any suggestions.
Using students for test questions is not a good. It can backfire when face is lost. If you insist on continuing this, perhaps use made up people for some of the more offensive examples.
Incorporate more of what is necessary to know in the text book into the lecture
Dr. Hubbard is a great teacher, I enjoy the way she presents information and her willingness to talk with students outside of class about the topics at hand. The only difficulty faced was just the staying up to date with students on progress with groups. The main concern is that there could be in group problems occurring and the teacher my be oblivious if the students are left without proper guidance. The authority that the teacher has can help students stay structured and focused if they know the teacher cares about the project.

Loved the class
great class, solid information
Class was always interesting and fun to be apart of. I would have to say that I was always looking forward to this class because I wanted to be apart of the class interaction and discussion. It was really great.
Amy is a great professor and is very knowledgable in her field of study. On the other hand, we are adults at a university in 2015. It made me really upset that Amy completely disregards non- heterosexual people. In a relationship course, I would like to see a little more variety and diversity in the way relationships are portrayed. On our syllabus, for our group project on break-up songs, one of the questions was "was there a difference in how men and women approached the break- up?" I feel that it is sort of ignorant for a college educated professor to completely disregard the fact that not all songs are about heterosexual relationships. Not all relationships are between a man and a woman. There were many times in class that it was evident that she thought this way. She split up the class into men and women and we had to discuss what our gender thought about the other gender regarding relationships. Her lectures were clearly aimed towards heterosexual relationships only. Also, she REALLY stuck with traditional gender roles. As someone who believes in gender equality and equality among people of all sexualities, I would not recommend this course to a friend of mine. At a University level course in a large city, I expect all of my professors to be queer and gender friendly. No one should have to feel uncomfortable in an educational setting. I want to add that aside from some of the negative attributes about my review, Amy is a great professor and seems like a great person. I am sure she is wonderful to be around outside of class as she has such a bright and friendly presence. I just thought that this is something that maybe has not ever been brought up to her by a student or faculty.

Thanks for making this class fun! I really appreciate the effort and energy you put in your class to give your students the most they can get. It was fun!
Overall was a fun class.
a bit intense subject matter just because it is very personal/emotional
This was a great class!
My favorite professor to date.
I would have to say this has been my favorite class and favorite professor in my two and a half years in college! Being a communicology major, this course really helped me grow in my interest and passion for this field of study. I looked forward to going to class because it was manageable, clear, organized, and I learned so much! I really felt as if Amy cared for the students and wanted to see us not only learn, but succeed! Because I could see how much she enjoyed and loved what she does, I in turn had fun and loved being in the class! Thank you so much :)
Unlike some of my past experiences, Amy is a great teacher. She understands how to keep the student engaged as well as get points across effectively. She keeps in mind the feelings of the students and considers what they will find enjoyable.
It has been a great semester with you. Thanks for making class fun. Even though the class material was challenging at times, you conveyed it to the class in an energetic and easy manner so that we understood. I definitely agree that it is a good idea to offer opportunities for extra points on exams as well as the exam rewrites so students can correct what they got wrong because usually things that we know tend to slip up when we are actually taking an exam. Thank you.
I don't like textbooks, and sometimes in communicology classes I feel they are unnecessary because the teacher covers what is in the textbook thoroughly. Overall great class and great teaching. Thanks for everything!
love her!
I feel that the break-up song project did not relate to class lectures. I understand break-ups fall under the broad topic of interpersonal communication and even relationship dissolution for that matter, but I still feel that we could have covered topics more relevant to break-ups along side the break-up song project. Also, I find that the project as a whole is not as well suited for college age students. In my own experience, I do not purposefully listen to break-up songs anymore. In high school, I listened to break-up songs all the time despite not even going through any relationship dissolution. If a teacher asked me to do a break-up song project during high school, I would have been much more passionate about the project. Now that I'm in college, I've done a lot of growing up and no longer purposefully listen up to break-up songs. It is in my opinion that other college students are in agreement with me. However, I understand people break up all the time and choose to listen to sad break-up songs but the majority of people probably don't. I don't have a solution for what kind of alternative project one could do, but I feel the break-up song project should be scratched.

As stated before, but I'd like to reiterate how much I loved this class! I learned so much and am truly sad that it's come to an end. If given the opportunity to observe and participate in this class again, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Amy is one of the best professors on campus!
Thank you for keeping classes fun and interesting. Definitely one of my favorite professors this semester!
Good job teaching! I learned a lot. Thank you
I liked and also did not like that class would go all the way to the last minute.
Amy is a great teacher who is exceptionally enthusiastic about her classes. She is creative, animated, and keeps students' attention rapt. She is pretty open with details regarding herself as well which is appreciated given the level of personal details she requests from the class. I'mpOne area she could work on though is openness to others' explanations. Otherwise, she has been pretty exceptional.

Do you even read this stuff? I mean can see all "strongly disagree/strongly agree" stuff just being statistically analyzed but come on. Are you really going to be reading 60+ comments each ranging from 0-2500 characters.... That would be ridiculous. You don't want to waste your time having a student just drag on and on about nothing. You have better things to do. I guess my real question is why are you still reading my comment by now we both must be in agreement that this is utterly silly garbage and can be ignored. Here, why don't you just move on to someone else's comment cause I'm just trying to fill up all 2500 words? I don't think that ill make it because I have class but if I don't try then I've already failed. HA. Look at that I found some life lessons being given out as I drool on an on. It's funny to think that you'll be reading this, probably confused by it and go hmm should I just move on already but then WHAM! I throw in an exclamation point and your back in it. Oh, Amy what are you going to do time is running out, and this student is still rambling on. Here let's make a deal, stop now and just move on, this writer has obviously lost their mind because of the impending work that they are trying to avoid by going on like this. I mean most of this doesn't even make sense. So just let this one go unread and continue forward. If you have gotten to this point in the paper, I'm sure you must be glad that at least this isn't a super long comment about negative things about you. I mean I would hate to be a teacher and read a 2500 word comment on all my flaws. I mean my mind already tells me all my flaws on its own. Why would I want more people telling me junk stuff about me? He well you know what you have been such a champ reading all the way up until this point ill gives you a cookie. Dr. Hubbard I love your classes they really do keep me engaged and informed, there aren't a lot of teachers that can motivate me to want to stay focused, so Kudos to you. Now back to my nonsense. I wonder if you will be able to figure out who I am. Do my words telegraph my character? Do you know me well enough to be able to decipher this puzzle? Am I a girl or a guy? I like the passwords that you give for a test so ill give you a password: Pineapples. If you think I'm the student who wrote this try work the word pineapples into the convo....but that is assuming I'm not a student leaving after this semester. OMG AMY WE DID IT! Shall we do a countdown to the end? NAHHHHHHH

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
The ability to engage the class to understand the materials
Explained everything in the course to a "T." I wasn't left thinking I didn't know what we were learning.
Very Knowledgable
Professor Amy always explains in a clear and understandable way. She makes class concepts easier to understand and apply to life situations/real life concepts.
Her enthusiasm for the class material made it very easy to become interested in, and therefore understand and remember, more of the content.
I really enjoy Dr. Hubbard's teaching style. She is able to present the course material in a very engaging way and I always enjoy going to class. Not only does she teach her material in a fun manner, but she also makes sure that her students understand the material.
Dr. Hubbard is always very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to during lecture. I always learn a lot from her classes.
She made class very engaging and interesting. We learned a lot of useful information and in a fun way. I enjoyed the videos that gave examples of class material.
Her enthusiasm and knowledge about the material she is teaching. You can tell she really does care about her students well being.
She is so eager to teach. You can tell she really enjoys the material she covers. Her enthusiasm makes it easy to want to learn.
very knowledgeable about the material and a great teacher
She explains the material well and in an interesting way. She kept everyone involved and into the topic when teaching.
I loved this course not only because of the content I retained, but because of Dr. Hubbard. She really made this class enjoyable and interesting. It wasn't a class that I dreaded going to. I was excited to show up and learn something new even though it was the last class of the day. Dr. Hubbard's explanations of concepts was easy to understand and if we ever had any questions she was there to answer them.
her helpful enthusiastic attitude
Amy is very understanding and flexible.
She is very knowledgeable and makes class enjoyable with her positive attitude!
She was available if needed, and time spent with her was always productive.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Grading was unclear. Most of our class time was spent watching movies instead of going over course material. Power point slides have almost no information on them. This makes learning extremely difficult for visual learners. Tests did not give students enough time.

Class is good already
I think Amy should require less on her study guides
none
I don't have any suggestions for improving the course. I felt that her assignments were manageable. However, I did notice that some students felt that the midterm exam was designed for more time than we were actually given. Although I felt that I was able to manage my time while taking that midterm, I do see how others may think otherwise.
I have no suggestions because Dr. Hubbard is an excellent teacher.
I think everything was organized nicely. Perhaps the only thing that could be improved would be adjusting the material on the exams slightly, (mostly the midterm, since we are only given an allotted amount of time).
Don't bring back that polygrapher guy. We were so eager to learn all about polygraphs
none
I would recommend going over the project materials more. Some parts are hard to understand, even when questions were asked.
Dr. Hubbard doesn't need to improve anything for this course. I think the teaching style and methods were very appropriate for this course.
more candy bars
Tests were difficult.
I love the fast pace of the class, but it makes it hard for note taking. If the powerpoints used for the lectures could have some expanded information on them, that would be helpful.

Amy is the best
I am always so grateful to have Amy as a Professor! She makes learning exciting and engaging.
Thank you Dr. Hubbard! I am so glad that I took your classes. Please continue to teach in the way that you do - you are by far one of my most favorite teachers in all my school years.

It has been a great semester with you. Thank you for making a class with so much extensive information fun yet also informative. I have learned a lot and am very thankful for all the new knowledge I have acquired. Thanks again. *NOTE: I completed this whole survey... and for some reason it didn't seem to submit so I had to redo the whole thing... my responses changed slightly, but still get the gist of it. :) If you somehow end up receiving both submissions, then this would explain why. Thanks
I have taken 4 or 5 of her classes and have enjoyed and learned a lot from all of them.

i did this i class ;)
The guest speakers and movie/tv show examples were a great addition to the class. I enjoyed the polygraph examiner, and watching the movies and tv shows used as entertaining teaching aids for different learning styles.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Hubbard's was really well prepared for each class lecture and was very enthusiiastic about what she is teaching.
She is animated in her teaching style and very lively. It keeps things interesting :)
She explains topics and contents very well and she is a very friendly and nice professor all around!
She keeps the class interesting by making examples that we can relate to. This helped with learning the material.
I found that she put topics in terms that we were able to understand.
One of the things that was most helpful was how detailed her explanations for each concept were. She explained concepts in different aspects if someone was not understanding it. Her enthusiasm made it easy and enjoyable to listen and participate in class.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Be more specific on what will be on the exam and not make study guides so broad.
I think her test could be a little bit more shorter. Enough questions that go within class time because a lot of students weren't able to finish the midterm on time.
None. Dr. Hubbard is an awesome teacher!
I do believe that the way that she taught the course was well enough, I do believe that she could put a little more on the powerpoints just so that we could review them after class. Dr. Hubbard tends to talk faster about something that she's really passionate about.
I can't think of any improvements. I loved this class and so glad I took it! I only wish I could have taken it during the fall or spring semester so that the information was not so heavily packed into a month of class :/

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Topics about romantic relationships and very enthusiastic.
Dr. Hubbard was extremely entertaining and enjoyable to be in class with. Her lecture style is engaging and encouraging of student participation. She is also very facilitating of true student learning - her exams and study materials are presented in a way that does not confuse or trick students. Learning from Dr. Hubbard has been an excellent experience; she has become one of my favorite professors.
Amy is professional, concise, easy to follow, fair, and presents material in an interesting and fun way that applies well to our lives and encourages us to learn.
When I had trouble finding the suitable material needed to finish a project, she had what I needed to do the work. She was very friendly and sociable when I needed to see her. She allows a personal connection feeling so that we can talk openly and freely without fear of being judged. Perhaps it's because she is a Taurus. Taurean women I have known have a knack for people confessing their deepest darkest secrets to them.
Professor Hubbard really knows the content and she evokes a passion for the course. She can answer any question this is brought up to her, and she delivers the information in a way to keep her students interested.
The most valuable thing about Dr. Hubbard is that she creates excitement about the concepts that she is teaching. She helps every try to understand the concept better through various examples and comedy.
I found her explanations and real life situations very useful!!!!!!!!!!! She is very enthusiastic!
She is very engaging and every class period is interesting.
She was always enthusiastic to help her students, every single one. When asked a question she tried very hard to explain in a way that was understood by everyone.
She was so personable and a great lecturer
Amy was always available whenever I needed help on any assignments or questions i had on the topics. She is always clear and provides real life examples so it is easy for us to understand. Her power points are awesome because I'm able to take notes and still have time to listen and engage in the examples that she provides. The slides are not too wordy to where I feel like I'm took busy trying to read notes, and I miss the application.
Very engafing
Very exciting and inspirational.
Powerpoints, videos, iClicker questions and mini assignments all helped me gain knowledge in this subject.
Amount of knowledge and passion of subject
That she was always willing to help and would explain everything twice if needed
I loved using the iclicker it helps all students participate and gets good class conversation going.
She was very enthusiastic about the material she was teaching. This made her students more engaged.
She genuinely cares about her students and the subject
She really knows the topic and presents it well for all students. I like that she always has a positive attitude when coming into the class and that she never loses it.
she pretty much was able to keep to her schedule. when it came time for the exam all the material that was in the exam, we had covered in class. I never felt lost in class. she made me want to participate in class.
If I had a concern, she was willing to go over with me what it was an explain to me nicely what I needed to know.
I like the way she never puts people down when they ask her questions, and she actively listens to us before she responds.
She related content to realistic situations that was easy to connect with
Everything I love this class!!
She's so awesome! Great teacher very passionate about the subject. Hope to get her again.
Her passion comes through in her lectures. You can tell that she just has so much fun teaching the content/subject. It was contagious, so it made it actually interesting and fun to go to class. I looked forward to class every day, and retained a lot more information when I was having fun learning it as well.
I like all of the class discussions we had and she always asked if the class had any questions to ensure we grasped the material
Amy's upbeat, enthusiastic and genuine kindness was very helpful in making the class interesting and relative. I enjoyed learning the information because I enjoyed her style of teaching it. Also, the way she made the classes interactive was great! It allowed us to participate and interact with each other via personalized questions posed during lecture.
She was very knowledgable about the material and made the class interesting.
Her examples and illustrations of each topic or definition.
examples used to explain concepts
Her understanding and willingness to help. As well as her straightforward attitude.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Everything we talk about is very heterosexual. Maybe be more open to other sexualities.
Easily one of my favorite courses taken so far. No suggestions for improvement.
Increase the time of the course. We start getting somewhere and then we gotta wait for next class.
I have no suggestions. I loved the way that Professor Hubbard taught this class. Even though there was a lot of content that was covered, I was never bored. I love how she keeps her students interacted. It truly seems that one of her main goals is to keep her class entertained while understanding the content at the same time.
I feel like she could be a little bit more authoritative when it comes to order in the classroom (although students should really know to respect others in class and the teacher). There were students in the class who talked way too often in class while she was teaching. These same students often made fun of other people's personal experiences they were sharing and presented themselves in a way that everyone else was inferior to them. They seemed to not be understanding of where and how other students have been brought up.
Very good, but more definitions written on the slides would make it easier to look back at, because sometimes I don't get everything down while she is saying it.
Her teaching style and methods are beautiful.
She should be more clear in explaining the criteria for the Interpersonal Communication Show project.
Nothing. She is a great teacher and does not need to do anything differently.
perhaps the powerpoints could have more words and definitions because she talks pretty fast.
Nothing, this was my favorite class
Class should be longer
None
This class was probably one of my favorite classes I have ever taken and in my major by far my favorite class. I enjoyed this class so much I have actually recommended and told people they should take this course.
More individual based work
Not too have the test worth so many points. it would be nice if the points were spread out more
None
I wish we had homework assignments emailed to us if we missed class.
It went by really fast. So much fun, I guess. I would like more opportunities to increase my grades. More tests or assignments and a greater emphasis on participation grades.
Well I don't like the fact that we have a group project aaaand a final exam. But besides that, Hubbard's an awesome professor! :)
Keep the class quieter when teaching
N/A
There is a lot of content covered--sometimes, it seemed that we were rushing through subjects in a 50-minute class. I think it would be good if we covered some topics a lot more in depth rather than rushing through them.
She should slow down on the powerpoints, sometimes she rushes through things or talks too quickly
Just keep doing what you're doing! I would recommend your class to any of my peers.
I don't have any suggestions.
She goes a bit fast through lectures. Sometimes hard to keep up with taking notes because she is already explaining the next topic when I'm still writing the previous definition.
The study guide is too intense, it's a bit distracting for study.

Thanks you, this semester has been very appreciated. This class has absolutely contributed to a better relationship with my girlfriend and I thank you for being so fun!
Professor Hubbard is a great teacher. Her workload does not demand much of her students, and I have learned a lot in this course. I would definitely take another one of her classes again.
There were students in the class who talked way too often in class while Dr. Hubbard was teaching. These same students often made fun of other people's personal experiences they were sharing and presented themselves in a way that everyone else was inferior to them. They were completely rude and one student made comments which really should have been kept to him/herself. They seemed to not be understanding of where and how other students have been brought up. I personally felt violated about the things I personally enjoy simply because he/she did not find the same things that I like to be "cool" or "normal". I feel like while the Interpersonal Communication Show's requirements were easily achievable, having zero time in class to talk with group members really inhibited the quality of work put into the show itself. It felt slightly rushed (even though my group started fairly early). I would suggest that there should be at least half of one or even two class periods to set up some baseline for the group project. For example, groups could think of what concepts they want to use in their show in class, and think of scenarios which can be done that implement those concepts. This way, they have a head start out side of class.
Amy Hubbard should be recognized as an outstanding teacher. I have met very few teachers with the drive to educate her students in such a positive way. She has helped to motivate me and I see a big difference in the students' interest level in her class compared to other Communicology teachers' classes.
Good class
Professor Hubbard has to be one of my favorite teachers that I have had in all 4 years at UH. she really relates to us students and makes class fun
Thanks so much for such a great class!
Favorite COMG class by far! :)
Since I work full time, and go to school full time, my time is extremely value. Therefor the group project requirement was extremely difficult to coordinate my schedule with 3 other people, to complete the requirements.
watching the presentations and presenting was probably the best part of the whole class.
Had an awesome time in your class!
Thank you! :)

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She makes lectures very interesting and it makes me want to learn about the material. She is helpful and encourages students to ask questions.
Lectures, PowerPoints, projects with other students.
she is an excellent teacher who is very enthusiastic and helpful! she knows her stuff.
The enthusiastic attitude from Dr. Hubbard created an atmosphere of good feeling. Dr. Hubbard is very knowledgeable and provided multiple ways to look at deception that could be applicable in different situations. Dr. Hubbard used different examples to demonstrate deception in reality.
Amy is very enthusiastic about the material and uses a variety of different teaching methods (I clicker, video, group work, individual work) so that the class remains fun and easy to learn for different learning styles.
I think Amy is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching. She makes learning fun and I think that's what is important, especially when class is at 8:30 in the morning.
The Content
She is always there if we need help or clarification on a particular assignment and gives good feedback on things we need to improve on. I always look forward to going to class despite it being at 8:30 in the morning because she presents the material in a very interesting manner.
She had great examples for this class. She was very specific about what was required of us.
Her enthusiasm for teaching, clear and organized structure and her knowledge of the topic.
Dr. Hubbard is encouraging of student participation and involvement in their education. She allows students to work on material that is presented in ways that are designed specifically for learning, rather than to review material. Information presented in class is specifically relevant to course objectives. Dr. Hubbard is also very tolerant of students (inappropriate and rude language and behavior.
Fully enjoyed her class. Very enthusiastic and makes class interesting!
She gets the class to interact. This helps in keeping everyone attentive. She responds to emails quickly and is always responsive to in-class questions.
Dr. Hubbard is really passionate about the material and her students.
Very knowledgeable about all material covered. Has great example for all terms. Wonderful and interesting Guest speakers.

Awesome class I would recommend anyone to take it, it's very applicable to personal everyday life
I loved taking this class with Amy. I've always enjoyed taking classes with her no matter what people say about how hard her class is. It's not that hard, people just need to go to class and actually pay attention. I wish I could take more classes with her.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She was understanding and did a lot of class exercises that helped us build that understanding
She explained the material effectively and cared about her students success.
Amy makes class fun. This is one class that I cannot fall asleep in, or would ever want to for that matter. She has a lot of exercises for the class to do to keep students engaged and attentive.
Very enthusiastic, knowledgeable professor
I really liked the examples she gave to explain certain concepts/theories. I also found her very approachable and was not afraid to ask her for help.
The lectures are so fun!! I love listening. Even the assignments are fun and iclickers questions are intriguing.
SHE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE MATERIAL AND SHE COULD ANSWER ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS VERY CLEARLY. FURTHERMORE SHE WAS VERY ENTHUSIASTIC AND MADE THE CLASS FUN. BY DOING THIS, SHE MADE EVERYONE VERY INTERESTED IN THE MATERIALS BEING COVERED.
Helpful teacher!
Enthusiasm! And small activities during class.
It was never boring but at the same time you are learning something.
Liked the videos presented.
I really like they way she teaches. She makes sure everyone understands everything and she is always there for question.
She brings energy to the class so early in the morning which is helpful and engaging.
Her enthusiasm every day helped us tackle difficult concepts
They way she got the material across
She was interactive with the class and also got us to interact with our classmates. She was upbeat everyday but not annoyingly. Showed true interest in teaching.
Dr. Hubbard was enthusiastic and knew what she was talking about. Her ability to provide real-life examples was helpful.
Amy you communicate so well and you are an excellent listener. You exemplify why comg is such a useful major. Respect.
Her animative attitude.
-Interactive group activities help to reinforce the concepts learned in class -Concepts are tied to studies and applied to real-life scenarios
She really knew her material and was very friendly and approachable.
She is such an amazing teacher. One of my favorite classes I have taken at UH. Makes the material very easy and comprehensive.
I really enjoyed that the classes were broken up into lectures and activities. It made the class easy to stay interacted and pay attention.
I find that her enthusiasm is very helpful in engaging students, as well as her ability to relate complex ideas and information in way that students can understand.
The structure of her class is very clear so it helps to study for exams. What is expected of us was made clear from the beginning of the semester and there were no surprises later in the semester.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
For the most part Amy's class is great. I can't really see her improving anything. Amy is an awesome teacher.
Too many opinion-based questions that I felt were more distracting than helpful. Too much of class time involved giving opinions rather than application of subject knowledge. I tuned out during these periods, as I would were the Real Housewives of New Jersey were on.
No suggestions. I really enjoyed the course and would recommend it to other students.
None! I love this class!
NOTHING. EVERYTHING WAS TO MY SATISFACTION. THAT IS HOW A CLASS IS SUPPOSE TO BE TAUGHT.
Nothing.
The big group paper due so close to finals week was a bit stressful. Also, smaller groups should be encouraged because the large group size made the project difficult.
none
Thank you for the extra credit secret passwords.
Change the lesson format from time to time, powerpoint and lecture every class becomes mundane.
More depth less breadth
none, love the class
I would suggest covering more of what is on the exams, or building exams more around concepts than details.
Your exams are worth so much and some times people are not good test takers. I feel as though exams will break you and the study guides are so long it seems impossible to review for.
Review the study guide prior to exam.
-Clearer expectations for what is required in projects -Exams are very specific
nothing I can think of
No suggestions.

Maybe relate the interpersonal communication information to relationships other than romantic ones. Relating more of the information to parent-child or friend-friend relationships would be helpful and relatable.
I like the way the lectures are done. I just disliked the group paper, because getting people to meet up and contribute was the most difficult part. I would prefer to have my grade given to me based off my individual work.

Thanks for all your help.
Dr. Hubbard is an amazing teacher and person. Her wonderful qualities spill over in class and are contagious. She makes the students want to learn more and become better students and she makes those opportunities possible. This is my second class with Dr. Hubbard and I am sad to say I cannot take her next class for scheduling reasons. If I could, I would take all my classes from her because of her ability to make her students driven and excited about her lessons. I have never had a teacher like Dr. Hubbard and I am so thankful to call her my professor and one of the main reasons for my continued love and interest of communicology. Thank you Dr. Hubbard for all that you do.

Favorite teacher by far for this semester!
I suggest taking her class.
Sometimes what you ask of us is to personal and knowing that you have that information is scary. It is like a one way street. You know so much about us and we know so little about you and that is a scary thought. I respect you as a teacher and I think you do your job very well.

She's awesome!!
SONA study availability was an issue, but it was explained that all the studies were awaiting approval. Having mandatory SONA credits for classes as part of our grade was a bit of a struggle, so I'm glad it was just extra credit for this class because I don't even have enough credits for my mandatory classes.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Amy's immediate feedback in class was very valuable and much appreciated. It was very good exercise to have to summarize articles in anywhere from 15s to 5m. Also, the feedback on summaries and discussion questions was helpful, as it gave me specific direction as to how I could improve.
She's extremely knowledgeable on both the topic and everything else in life.
Amy was able to not only teach course content, but she improved me as a student overall. She allowed me to improve the way I read articles and research. Furthermore, she really helped me grasp the idea of being able to summarize research in an effective way.
She's very enthusiastic and clearly enjoys the material that she teaches. She is also easy to contact outside of class and makes the subject matter more interesting than it would normally seem.
Amy Hubbard utilized effective immediacy cues to make the class more appealing and productive.
Amy is very knowledgable about the material, which was immensely helpful throughout the semester. She was able to quickly provide answers to any questions that were asked and was able to give helpful advice. Amy was also able to use her knowledge to prompt the students with questions that allowed us to further our thinking and interest in the different topics.
She clearly knows a lot about the subject and is passionate about it, which makes it enjoyable for the students. She was always available for short or long questions. She taught us useful skills by making us go back and repeat things. She was very clear in her syllabus about what was expected of us each week.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Sometimes her stares are intimidating.
I used a lot of ink and paper this semester, but it wasn't a big deal. I would do it all over again if I had to.
The weekly summaries and discussion questions require the most work and preparation outside of class, yet are only worth ~20% of the total grade. For the effort required to do these well, I feel they should be worth more total points.
None. I truly enjoyed the readings that were selected.
I have no suggestions for the class or for Amy's teaching style. I felt as though the readings and the assignments were relevant to the class and aided our learning. I also felt as though Amy had the right amount of enthusiasm and was able to help each student improve as individuals throughout the semester.
Nothing that I can think of--I really enjoyed the class and Amy's teaching style!

I definitely felt as though I learned a lot in this class, and I am very glad that I decided to take the course. Although this was inarguably the most labor-intensive class I have taken, I feel as though I am finishing the course with many more skills that I had when I began. Amy is respectful of her students' time and recognizes the effort they put in.
This is by far the most challenging course I took. However, it has been the most rewarding course. I have not gotten as much out of any class as I have for this class. I wish I was able to experience Amy's teaching style at the graduate level in my first semester of grad school, as I think I would have been able to excel even further. I have learned so much throughout this semester and it encouraged me to want to continuing learning. I appreciate the time and effort Amy puts into the course. As a student, I feel like she cares so much about us. Amy allowed me to feel passionate about what we were learning, which is something I aspire to do as a GTA. Amy, thank you for an amazing semester. I really appreciate every single thing I got out of this course.
The text book and sourcebook are quite dense and at times dull compared to the other readings.
I really enjoyed the course! Thank you for challenging me! -James
Overall, I enjoyed this course. I feel that not only did my knowledge in the area of nonverbal communication improve, but that I also improved as a person. I think taking this course will not only be beneficial for the rest of my time in this program, but also in any career that I decide to go into in the future.
I enjoyed the weekly article summaries and discussion questions. They helped keep me accountable with myself to do the weekly readings, and forced me to look closer at my article to understand it enough to summarize. I also really enjoyed the class project. It was fun to work on different parts of the project and then all come together to do data collection.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Everything!
she is very knowledgeable in her field, funny and enthusiastic and very friendly.
Enthusiasm!
Her activities and knowledge of the material!
I really enjoyed learning about the different aspects of interpersonal relationships. I have taken what I've learned in this class and applied it to my relationships outside of class.
Her enthusiasm on the topics that she taught made me more interested in learning about interpersonal relationship communication. She related the course material to things that happened everyday between people which made the concepts easy to understand.
Her enthusiasm, use of class time, examples, and the activities she does in class.
She's very enthusiastic about how she teaches. She also explains things clearly if you don't understand.
Incredibly knowledgeable on communication, very nice and funny.
She is very direct and gets the point across well
She is easily available and approachable for students. She has a positive attitude and seems to enjoy her work.
Very passionate and engaging teaching style.
Her knowledge of the subject
I enjoyed her teaching style. She uses a variety of ways to learn material, for example, iclicker, powerpoint, mini assignments, videos, class group activities, where we are able to interact.
Clearly explained lessons and concepts
Her enthusiasm during every class period.
Activities to get a point across in almost every class.
Good job relating class content to real life situations. Good job keeping an open atmosphere that encouraged students to share.
The way she talks; its easy to hear even for ESL students, and the involving environment helped a lot to get into discussion.
Dr. Hubbard was enthusiastic and interesting and used several different methods for teaching material. She lectured, incorporated group discussion, we did various mini projects and experiments and overall, kept the class interesting.
Her vast knowledge about the area of communicology and being able to relate the material to the class helped me to remember the information more. I think even remembering my name made the class feel more comfortable for me. Her group projects also made the class enjoyable being able to meet other people. Requirements are clearly defined in the syllabus and Dr. Hubbard was able to clarify any confusion in the class.
good knowledge of the subject
The course material was interesting and class discussions helped to relate the content to our lives.
Her brain
She is very good at making class discussions enjoyable and relatable
I think I have to say that everything seemed valuable and helpful. Amy Hubbard is an amazing teacher.
Amy Hubbar is a very intelligent women. That knew what she was talking about.
The iclicker polls were helpful in getting students to remember what was just taught as well as see the overall class opinion.
Dr. Hubbard is such a passionate person and she really loves teaching. This is shown through her enthusiastic attitude in class.
She is really enthusiastic about what she teaches and has great activities and examples to explain what we are learning.
Dr. Hubbard was always available for help and she's willing to repeat herself a few times if the material gets confusing.
She brings a lot of energy and positivity to the class and conveys the material in an interesting, engaging way.
Able to answer all questions clearly and effectively.
Each class was interactive and interesting.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Nothing!
keep on keeping on!
Posting the study guide at the beginning of the semester would help a lot because there is so much information to study for in such a short amount of time.
Less use of the iClicker and less point emphasis on projects
I don't think I'd change anything.
I think she has it down
she is sometimes too enthusiastic
More extra credit oppertunities
post assignment reminders
It was almost too many activities. Sometimes I just didn't want to share my thoughts with other people, but that was a daily thing.
Make sure all content on the exam has been covered in class.
Could add more assignments to make sure students are showing understanding of the material, especially the reading.
My only complaint about the class is the use of the Iclicker. I like the idea of voting for different topics and seeing the results and being able to discuss with others about the results, however, with the already extremely high price of tuition and course materials, it is an added expense that is unnecessary, and I may never even use again after this class is over. Some alternatives may be to make the Iclicker optional, rather than such a big part of our grade, voting in by holding up index cards with letters on them or,anonomously writing it down on a sheet of paper, and discussing it at the end of class or the next class.

Dr. Hubbard talks fast in class but if you make friends, it isn't too hard to keep up. We cover a lot of material which is good.

I dont have suggestions.
Duo partnerships are already quite difficult, let alone a group. It was difficult getting a group project done and maybe in the future a different project that only requires 2 people?
Sometimes, she makes faces at what people say, which is somewhat discouraging. I sometimes feel as though I have said something wrong, but am not quite sure what she means by making these facial expressions.
None.
This may not relate to Dr. Hubbard, but perhaps finding an alternative to iclickers if we forget ours at home or if our iclicker dies.

Great class, and fun!
I really enjoyed the class.
I really like the in-class activities. They take the monotony and routine out of sitting through a lecture every day and instead make class fun to attend. Well, as fun as class can be...
Wonderful professor!
Good job!
Thank you so much for this amazing class. I am really glad that I decided not to drop the course.
I would definitely recommend this class to other people and take it again if I could. The class discussions were very engaging using the iClickers and just answering her questions.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She's a very dynamic professor who tailors her lectures to be relevant, interesting and interactive. Her enthusiasm keeps her students engaged in activities, and as a result they learn and retain more information. It was a pleasure to be in her class.
Amy Hubbard impressively organized this course in a clear and effective manner. She fostered respect for the course and for her as an instructor by sticking fairly to outlined policies, and she made everything (resources) readily accessible to students through laulima, in class/person, through email, and as outlined in the syllabus. She presented the material in clear organized PowerPoint presentations (which are helpful for taking notes), while also utilizing videos, iClicker quizzes/surveys and activities, class discussions, and interactive activities (which I didn't often feel like participating in but nonetheless it kept me attentive). She really knows how to engage the class, and from her behavior it is clear that she pays attention to the class morale and adapts her lessons and delivery as appropriate. She also is meticulous, and grades assignments thoroughly and continually assesses individual student progress. Overall she is a highly qualified and respectable professor with a talent for engaging instruction.
Detail oriented and passionate
Amy Hubbard was very approachable, which allowed me to ask questions or go to her office when something was unclear to me.
That she understood what she was talking about therefore it made it easier for her to share what she knows. Having the ability to share relative information about her life as well made learning very interesting, also. She was also helpful with answering questions if we ever had a difficult understanding a certain subject or theory that was being discussed in the class.
She made learning fun with interesting topics and great activities/game. I never missed one of her classes! Awesome!
Her lectures were very engaging and the topics were interesting. I love her teaching style and felt that coming to class was enjoyable.
She really knows her material and does well in explaining it to the students.
Amy Hubbard is very enthusiastic and knowledgable about all aspects of the class. There was never a question I had that she could not answer and/or back up with a study.
Passionate, knowledgeable, and understanding. Great professor.
She is very knowledgable in NVC and has a real passion for the material. She works hard to make her classes go smoothly and get the most out of a short time. She is a very skilled teacher.
Dr. Hubbard is one of the best (if not the best) professor I have ever had. She never makes you feel stupid for asking questions and answers them all to be sure you understand before moving on. Some professors value time and "covering everything" more, but Amy cares more that you understand everything in class, which made this class so much more enjoyable.
She was very willing to meet with the students outside of class. She answers emails quickly and makes the course fun and relate able.
It is very helpful when the instructor is well prepared and organized. I like that she is always ready and enthusiastic.
Dr. Hubbard made herself very available to her students and kept to her syllabus very well. Her enthusiasm inspires me to continue on to a Master's degree in Communicology.
her enthusiasm
Good explanations of class content, very detailed.
her knowledge of the subject
She explains the topic very clearly. Gives great examples and visuals. She is also very enthusiastic and happy. She is very friendly and easy to approach when asking for help. She is always willing to make an appointment to meet up and help outside of class.
She was very prompt in returning emails
I think she was able to explain class material very well and she was able to give good examples. Also she is humorous, which makes the classes fun even though it's a 1:15 hours class.
I feel that everything was valuable and helpful. Amy Hubbard is an amazing teacher and I would suggest my classmates to at least take 1 course with her.
She is very concerned with making sure people understanding the course material.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
A difficulty with this course was the completion of the semester long group project. While a group project is appropriate for this particular class (interpersonal communication students should practice working communicatively with others), group projects in general are problematic for many students across courses. Much of the time a few group members are stuck with the bulk of the work at the last minute when peers fail to contribute their efforts. As a result a piece of work that is supposed to represent the comprehensive body of knowledge the student has gained over the semester ends up being a hastily-compiled piece of work not worth scholarly attention. If students are given less group work, they are able to more individually and fully focus on their topic of interest and produce quality work. I still feel that group work can be effective and is important, but it should be re-allocated within many of the UH Manoa courses of study.

Address some concepts in the text more.
None.
Maybe a little more of a review on the study guide. It is overwhelming.
Dr. Hubbard talks a little fast but students can record the lectures just in case if they need.
None.
Only suggestion is to give out final and midterm study guides earlier. it is very difficult to compile and memorize the material in such a short time for some students.
Amy uses powerpoints effectively, but her lectures are interesting and she uses a lot of examples. She also does a lot of class activities when they can be used to explain topics.
I have no suggestions for improvement, this course was amazing. And even though it was the most difficult COMG course I've taken, it was all worth it for what I got out of the class.
less material to cover
Spoke to quickly. Tried to cover too much content over a short amount of time. When it came to exams it was an information overload.

Shorten the study guide. The study guide is 100 questions and is very hard to study everything.
Make the group project and individual project
None.
Creative class homeworks which would help us get ready for the final video project.

Thank you, Dr. Hubbard! :)
What an amazing professor! Such a smart, interesting and lovely person!
Keep up the great work!
wonderful class and teacher.
I like that there is one packet to print out per semester with all homework activities in it. It makes it easier to follow instead of having to track assignments down one by one.
See you in the Fall for Graduate School!!!
Lots of paper wasted because we needed to submit two copies of everything, also depended mostly on group projects and expected students to spend money on their products. I cannot deny that professor Hubbard is definitely an expert in nonverbal communication.
Dr. Hubbard is one of the best professors that I have had. Her exams are just very hard and require you to really study and understand the concepts.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She made everything interesting and made everyone feel comfortable sharing their ideas and experiences.
she is so enthusiastic in every class session. she is so fun to listen to and she motivates me to learn and be successful in her class.
Dr. Hubbard's enthusiasm and knowledge really helped inspire me to want to learn the course objectives.
I like the feeling of the professor enjoying teaching a course, it makes the class more enjoyable. If I didn't understand a concept a term she gave me examples that helped me better understand the material.
She was able to keep me engaged throughout the class. It's not just because I enjoyed the material, Amy made it easy to learn the material because she did a great job teaching/explaining.

The Lectures
I appreciated Dr. Hubbard's ability to explain concepts in a basic way, and Dr. Hubbard's examples of the concepts helped me to understand the relationship between the class concepts and real-life scenarios.
The most valuable thing about amy is that she is very enthusiastic, which keeps you engaged and interested in the class.
She knew what she was talking about.
Her enthusiasm while teaching always helped to make the class excited about the material as well. She always used very practical examples that we could all relate to which made it easier to understand the concepts that she was teaching rather than remembering definitions out of a book.
She's always upbeat in class, and this is the only class that I have never fallen asleep.
She makes the classes very interesting and insightful. She makes you want to learn the content she is teaching.
She made class fun and made it very engaging. She made the material relate to our daily lives, making it interesting.
Everything.
She is very enthusiastic about everything, it makes you want to learn from her and also makes the material easier to understand.
She was kind and very understanding. She also seemed to enjoy teaching the subject and knew a lot about it.
Seemed personally vested in the work she presented.
She made class very, very interesting and relative to life. She made the class lively and entertaining. Creating various examples about the main concepts made it much easier for me to learn and recall the concept. As she was enthusiastic about the class, I became enthusiastic too. You make the classroom setting feel comfortable. She connects to her students in the classroom and outside of class.
I found that giving examples about the material and relating it back to our every day life made it more interesting to learn.
This class was my favorite class this semester. I enjoyed Amy's teaching style and her energy every class. She always seemed excited about the topics she taught and always tended to her students when they didn't understand.
The in-class activities made the topics we were discussing clear and easy to understand.
she's enthusiastic
She knows her material very well and I felt that she would always make sure we had everything covered before the exam.
Dr. Hubbard was very well versed in the subject matter and presented it in a very entertaining and interseting way. I really enjoyed her lectures becasue she was able to relate the class material to things that occur in our daily lives.
She is very personable during her lectures, and extremely friendly inside and outside of class. She is more than willing to help you out, and definitely rewards the students who put effort into participating and doing projects/homework.
Awesome teacher easy to talk to and ask for help
Dr. Hubbard always has a smile on her face and always has a positive attitude. She is very enthusiastic in her lectures. She gives great examples to help you better understand. You can always ask her questions if you are unsure about something. She communicates well and emails you back right away. She makes class enjoyable.
The slides
Dr. Hubbard is a very knowledgable in the course and brings not only experience to the class but also insight and makes the class very fun and interesting.
Found that her passion and energy made the class a lot more enjoyable which ended up making learning the material that much more solid.
I liked how she is always there when you need help. She is very opened minded to any questions that I may have and she just makes me feel like know matter how hard the work is, I can do it.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Expectations for papers and projects could be explained more clearly.
Her tests are way too hard, only because she's very strict about what we wrote down.
She forces us to put literally EVERYTHING in the front of the class and i think that's a bit extreme. If Amy catches someone teaching, she should just automatically fail them. I felt that she didn't trust me.

The textbook is a little dry...if there was something more exciting, that would probably be helpful.
N/A. She's perfect as it is.
There are no suggestions.
I understand that she couldn't be here in November because of a conference, but I felt like there wasn't the same depth to the material like there was for the first half of the semester (before the midterm)
Nothing to improve on, she is animated and keeps the class entertained the whole time.
It's good how it is

Nada.
I don't really have any suggestions. All that I have to say is that I thought watching video clips, having iClicker questions, and various group discussions were very helpful to me as I learned about the material. I know that I learned a lot from this course.
Dr. Hubbard's teaching style is fantastic! I love how she uses activities to get the main idea of the material. It helps me understand the material in another level.
I didn't enjoy having 5 point papers versus having it worth more in the class
N/A
the book seemed to have nothing to do with the lectures. The lectures are not organized at all in relation to the book, like the stuff that is covered in one slide show isn't all in the same chapter in the book. the study guide is a lot more complication than it should be. lectures should be coordinated with the chapters in the book so its easier to study.
Maybe assigning a T.A. to her class so they can help us more outside of class like a study session before the class.
For the group project, I would suggest having a group chose a group leader to mediate decisions in the group. This will more accurately reflect the real world in which a project leader is always assigned.
Sometimes your exams are a little too rigorous professor!
Your tests make me want to kill myself!! not really but it's annoying getting good grades on home work and projects and then knowing the material but not doing well on the tests and with that being the majority of your grade you end up failing

Study guides are not clear.. Would be nice to not have test that I could know that it was cover and I understand..
She can make her test more light, her study exams especially more light. Overall she did lighten up a lot fromt her nonverbal communication class thank god but her test are still very insane.

Thank you Dr. Hubbard for a wonderful semester. I learned so much from you and I truly feel you are one of the best professors at UH-Manoa.
Don't base grade on attendance.
Dr. Hubbard is the best teacher I have ever had. All classes are boring compared to hers. She is a good teacher because she sparks the class's interest which is what a teacher is supposed to do. She always comes into class smiling, so it makes us in a good mood to learn. She also is very sociable, which makes the class have a good atmosphere.
Dr. Hubbard is one of two of the best teachers I've ever had at UH Manoa. I've been here for 4 Years now and being a senior, I've had a number of teachers, however, Dr. Hubbard is one of those rare teachers that knows her stuff and knows how to teach it. She is the only teacher though that I enjoy spending every minute of in class because its so FUN. I never thought I would have FUN in a class in college because of all the teachers I've already had, but Dr. Hubbard broke that streak this semester. She's the best!

Truthfully, I always looked forward coming to your class. You made it very enjoyable and you made me feel comfortable. Your study guide is very long, but everything on the study guide was important to take note of for the exam.
Really liked Professor Hubbard as a teacher. I heard of her as the infamous instructor in the comg department and am glad to have finally had her as a teacher.
Very good teacher, really pushed me!
Thank you Dr. Hubbard
Professor Amy Hubbard is best professor.

Dr Hubbard is again one of the coolest communicology teachers out there. She makes learning the material super fun and enjoyable but at the same time I still think her test are insane. She did actually lighten up on the exams way more then the non verbal class that I took with her but still if I were to ask anyone about Hubbard every says she is one of the best teachers but her test are stil insane. I did enjoy every moment with her as a teacher and he class is just so fun that I actually look forward to class every week.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She makes every class I take from her interesting and exciting. She makes me want to learn to get good grades in her class, because she is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
The way she teaches makes learning interesting and fun.
Dr. Hubbard was able to present the theories and concepts of deception in multiple ways that were both informative and entertaining. I really enjoyed that she didn't just stick to powerpoint slides, but varied the material with multimedia and guest speakers.
Teaching style and amount of work
Having taken Dr.Hubbard for other Communicology courses in the past, I appreciated her consistency in always being well-prepared with her lectures and course content, dressing professionally, while also being friendly and approachable. Her enthusiasm for the class content motivated me to actively participate in class as well as see her during office hours to discuss in more detail about class material, etc.
She is very passionate about teaching her students the subject matter. In turn, the students seemed passionate to engage themselves in their learning.
Amy has expertise in her subject and is adept at explaining complex ideas.
Most valuable would have to be all of the content about deception. Amy Hubbard is most helpful in the sense that she is willing to repeat explanations if a student doesn't understand.
She's very excited in teaching Deception that it really helps the students think more about the topics.
She seems well-versed in teaching. She is friendly, open and personable.
Dr. Hubbard's classes are difficult. If one is an "A" student, they will get a "B", and so forth. However, the learning opportunity is worth the trade off in harsh grading.
I really like how she makes the material interesting and how she asks questions to get everyone involved.
Hubbard was very knowledgeable and was able to convey messages in ways that were easy for us to understand. She also made the information very interesting, making it easy for me to follow along in the class.
Amy has one of the best teaching methods I have ever experienced. Technically, it is still called a "lecture," however, Amy makes lectures fun and interactive. She is always open to other people's opinions and is always willing to take that extra time and step to make sure a student understands the content. Amy explains the content so well that it's nearly impossible for one to not understand something. That's how good she is at teaching. And I also loved that we had entertaining guest speakers for this class.
Really friendly and made the class fun. Always excited to go to class
Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Friendly and open to discussion.

Perhaps not so much reliance on the iclicker questions to factor into our overall grades. It was sort of a hassle to always remember to bring my iclicker with me to class in order to get attendance and participation credit for the day.

MORE CANDY!
I like Dr. Hubbard as a professor but not the way she teaches. She comes off as contradictory. She is always smiling, which one would attribute to having easy exams but that is not the case. Her exams are long and tedious. She has a certain reputation within in the COMG dept. being known as the most difficult professor. I'm not saying that it is entirely her fault but she could ease up on her exams. I feel that I struggle to complete it within the time allotted. She may come off as intimating at first but I have learned to enjoy her as a professor. I still do not enjoy exams. I also have difficulty completing the review sheet. 88 questions (I've heard they were more in the past) to study is not something to mess with. For me, 50 questions is manageable. 88 is nearly double that amount.
Class is an A+
The only suggestion I would have is making an option for the final project/paper as an individual work.
Amy doesn't need to make any improvements. Her teaching method is perfect.

enthusiastic, welcoming, too happy I can honestly say that I have never met anyone like her. I don't mean to offend but she seems too happy for some reason. MORE CANDY FOREAL
I hope she takes these comments into consideration for her future classes. Albeit, she is a strict grader and her exams are tedious, students still enjoy having her as a professor. If her exams were easier, I would think more students would enjoy having her. She does have some weird mannerisms (e.g., waving hands in the air when class is done, always smiling, etc.). Thank You Dr. Hubbard for teaching COMG 472. It was a long and hard-fought journey to the end. I tried aiming for that A but as long as I pass your class, I am good. This was the first time 472 was officially taught as a class. If this class is taught again the future, the professor who is teaching it, whether it is you or some one else, can learn from us "the guinea pig class" and implement some better changes to the curriculum. I did like those guest presenters. I would say I enjoyed Chris the Magician more so than the lie detector expert. It was informative, nonetheless.
The text book Deceptive Communication In Human Interactions is a keeper.
I enjoyed this class a lot.
This course was one of the most interesting courses out of all of Communicology for me personally. It was just so captivating and stimulating to learn about deception, something that is looked down upon in society.
Need to keep the deception class
Best Deceptive Communicology class I've ever taken.
Amy is an amazing teacher.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Her professionalism and enthusiasm for the material made class fun and interesting and made me want to go to class
Enthusiastic, clear, lots of examples
Dr. Hubbard was very organized and makes her lectures interactive, which really helps with retention.
Enthusiasm.
She was friendly and approachable and knew how to answer all questions in clear, precise ways. She made the expectations clear in the syllabus and made the class interesting and relevant.
her enthusiasm and way of involving the class made it a lecture class that i wasnt almost falling asleep in halfway through.
I enjoyed how she wanted the class to interact with each other.
Amy Hubbard's enthusiasm and variety of teaching methods were most valuable.
What I found most valuable and helpful is that she allowed us to fully understand the course material, as well as each lesson that was taught. What I found most valuable is that her teaching style always engaged me into the lessons, and she made the class very interesting which is very important when it comes to learning.
very friendly, easy to ask those questions people might think are "dumb"
Examples help me to understand concepts better. And the projects were beneficial as well.
1. Amy treated all students with respect and her Iclicker questions kept the students involved in class.
I fully enjoy Dr. Hubbard's teaching style. Her lectures are very interactive and kept the students attentive throughout each class.
When a professor is as passionate about what she is teaching, as Amy Hubbard is, you can't help but learn!
She was very energetic.
GREAT professor. I actually enjoyed coming to class. Discussions were great, made me want to participate in class
She is very enthusiastic. Class was never boring. Lectures were well organized and I like hearing insights from others when she asks for examples or questions and comments throughout the lectures. They help me understand the concepts better and in a different way. Dr. Hubbard goes into the material in depth mentioning studies that are interesting and personal experiences that make the concepts more relatable. I like how she is always positive and encouraging to students. She is very respectful of others opinions and values others comments on the subjects.
She was always available in class to answer a students question before moving on to new subject material. I think she made all of us feel welcomed to participate and ask questions.
Very interactive during class and makes it very easy to listen and learn.
She was very knowledgable on the subject and gave great examples that were relatable to each student.
She uses class time very effectively and course material is presented in a good way.
Provided a very detailed syllabus that gave students what is to be expected of them. Very cheerful while teaching.
She is very enthusiastic about the class and made it fun to learn
The examples that Dr. Hubbard used to explain terms were extremely helpful. She was able to relate everything we covered in class to us personally. Loved it!
She presented a lot of good material that supplemented information from the book, and chose good relevant and interesting assignments.
Even though some of the material was hard, Hubbard was engaging and helped students learn the material in a relatable way. Her energy kept the class attentive.
Hubbard provides a engaging, entertaining, and educational environment that makes learning easy and information retainable. The lectures given are useful, applicable, and relevant to everyday life. She is also funny, well-dressed, and easygoing.
she loves the subject so it makes it easy to understand!
communication ability
-she was enthusiastic about course content -she presented in fun ways, using videos, pictures, relevant examples, iclicker questions
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I would limit the amount of group papers. Everyone is too busy to met and it is very stressful.
Shut up the misogynists. Everyone is entitles to an opinion but not when it's blatantly disrespectful to half + the class. It didn't facilitate an open environment. (That's not your fault of course).
N/A
Recapping material.
Give the study guides out earlier. Coordinate with other speech professors so that projects and midterms aren't all on the same day. Allow in class work time for projects.
Maybe go into depth on the lectures and readings (elaborate more).
There is a lot of course content to comprehend and lectures seem to occur rapidly. I think more review time either after a lecture or an additional session before exams would be helpful.
There is none. I enjoyed it very much.
n/a
The projects were fun but it'd be better if they weren't too time consuming and theyy can be worth less points as well.
1. More group work- it allows the class to get to know each other.
Please do not make the study guides for the tests/midterms so long! Study guides with over 100 questions is quite an overload of information for the students.
It's great! I would love to space out the tests more though instead of just having two! There is a lot covered for each test.
She is very good!!
Can't think of anything. She is good.
Have more tests during the semester, so the points dont lie heavily on these.
Study guide could be more organized and on powerpoints have a reference page we could make to book.
I think if we could have more time to take better notes. At times we do fly by the material.
I feel the power point slides should contain more written content instead of being used solely for teaching purposes. That way it can serve as additional notes for exam preparation or for when students missed class. Clicker sessions should just be removed quickly and replaced with group discussions or simply incorporated into the lecture w/o the use of clicking & guessing the answer.
i feel she goes over concepts really fast and speaks really fast so it hard to write as fast as she talks
I can't think of any! It was great!
It was difficult to keep up with the notes by hand and notes are quite essential to do well on the very heavily-weighted, challenging exams.
Her testing methods are not effective. She requires students to study 80-100 questions just for a study guide, when they could have been shorter. The completion of her projects already show students' knowledge of the material, so her tests don't have to be that extensive.
While I value my peers' opinions and thoughts, sometimes they are not always pertinent to the discussion topic at hand. I find it can be very tedious listening to irrelevant comments when class time is so limited.
She speaks too fast and sometimes loses the students
no improvement required
-tons of info to learn and remember -hated the group projects, please take them out or reduce the amount of group projects

My favorite teacher at UH
Class projects were not exactly related to course goals, it was a free for all- pick what you want, etc. Fun though.
Mahalo for a wonderful semester Dr. Hubbard. I'm looking forward to Grad-school :)
One of my favorite professors I've had even though the class is challenging. Part of the reason I've decided to become a speech major.
thank you!
Love Dr. Hubbard's class!!!!! Amazing!!
I really enjoyed your class!!
My only favorite class this semester
Overall very interesting course. I learned a lot about the subject of Interpersonal Relations. Dr. Hubbard is an excellent instructor.
She deserves a raise!
I find that the text book is written in an unorganized way.
It was fun to be in the class I feel i learned alot of information however she expects far too much our of her students
This is the only class this semester that I actually enjoyed attending. Excellent class!
This professor is awesome. She is a tough grader but this not only prepares you to do well in her class, the structure is conducive to taking things from this course that are applicable to achieving success in life! Thanks Dr.Hubbard! : )
Every professor at UH has let me down in term of academic expectations except Amy Hubbard. Please ask her to provide communication workshops for the rest of the university. This seriously needs to be adressed...
-class always went by fast because she made it fun and entertaining -please do away with group projects

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
high energy class kept attention of students
Her knowledge of the subjects she teaches is so vast that any problem or misunderstanding you might have with the course work she can diffuse immediately.
-enthusiastic
She knew the course material like the back of her hand. This helped us when we had hard questions about the course content.
She's very knowledgeable on the subject material, so if a student doesn't understand, she has other ways or angles of explaining the concept.
Wonderful and brilliant!
I like how she uses a variety of teaching methods to explain class material. I wasn't sure about the class until the semester began. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she demonstrates her knowledge in ways that are applicable to everyone. I appreciate that she is organized. Also, appreciative that she posts her powerpoint notes on Laulima. It makes it a lot easier to prepare for class and feel certain about the readings that should be done prior to class.
She is great.
Dr. Hubbard exhibited a very comprehensive knowledge of the field. She was also extremely helpful in her office hours. Her course content was structured and we never wasted class time.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Hubbard's teaching and lecture style. Her classes are both interactive and fun, keeping students attentive while learning quite a lot.
She was wiling to go out of her way to help me regarding even things unrelated to her class material!
NA
The study guides and the fun secret passwords for extra credit.
The instructor's wealth of knowledge
Dr. Hubbard's comprehensive knowledge of the course matter and her ability to clearly explain difficult concepts and drill knowledge home, not only through repetition, but also through relevant exercises make her a valuable and helpful teacher.
she is very nice
She keeps class fun and interesting. She is very funny and makes the material very easy to relate to.
Her requirements for projects were specific, which helped students understand exactly how she wanted the assignment to be done.
Displays exceptional enthusiasm on the things she teaches
Her enthusiasm for the course material was contagious.
Dr. Hubbard is the most enthusiastic teacher that I've ever had, and we would all be getting our moneys worth at this university if every professor taught like Dr. Hubbard.
Allowing us to get involved in group discussions and allowing to hear what other students wanted to say.
Excited about the topic!
She is thorough in presenting class lectures, presented the material in a way as to engage my undivided attention for the hour and fifteen minutes of class time, twice a week, and - yes, when I recall Communicology Department, she definite pops up in my head of noteworthy professors.
Professor Hubbard is one of the most dynamic instructors on the UH campus. The amount of material she covers in class is sometimes overwhelming, but her enthusiasm for the the subject (as witnessed in every class lecture) makes up for it.
She is very friendly and approachable. She makes the content interesting and fun.
She is very enthusiastic, funny, and has great class exercises.
Dr. Hubbard is always very prepared for each lesson. She creates an environment for her students to be challenged and excel in their educational endeavors.
Amy was really approachable and easy to talk to. Amy knows her material really well and is able to explain/break something down till it makes sense.
Dr. Hubbard is every engaging in her lecture. I love her mix of real life examples, exercises and theory.
easy to talk to and very helpful when you need it
She is really bubbly and friendly. It's easy to go up to her after class and talk about any issues you may have.
Her examples of terms were easy to follow because she relates these concepts to everyday life situations.
The sessions when I met her outside of class for our group projects. We really got a sense of where to go from these meetings.
She is very friendly and easy to talk to. Almost brings her self down to a college level mentality. Easy to relate.
Dr. Hubbard is an amazing lecturer. Sheâ??s dynamic, always willing to engage with students during class, and demonstrates concepts and gives examples which are humorous, memorable, and easy to understand.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Not so long study guides :)
-more info on slides of ppt -less group assignments
I loved it all.
Lots of content and some of it is not well represented on the exams. Some items on the exams are not thoroughly explained in class and seem like a minor detail. Other things that are explained in depth and are repeated aren't on the exam.
None.
I found myself having a hard time keeping up with the lectures in the way they were structured. Important definitions and examples were spoken only verbally, and she moved so quickly that it was hard to get the important information down. Even having read the book, and reviewing my notes (which I take pretty meticulously) I still had missed the 'key concepts' that were found on the test. I felt that I had a firm grasp of the study guide, and still got a low C on the exam. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but perhaps writing the definitions on the slides for in class (and omitting them from what she puts online) would help?
I would suggest shortening the study guides for the midterm/final. They were quite long and excessive. So probably in the future, working on consising the study guides for students would be extremely helpful in their studying.
NA
Give time in class for the project and explain the project a little more, make it a little less costly, and give more options
Hmmm...less iClicker maybe? (Takes up a lot of time)
I honestly can't suggest much, except releasing study guides for exams a little earlier!
more information on slides, i didnt learn well from her powerpoints
Her study guides and exams did not have to be so long, especially for students taking two of her classes. It is a lot of material to study for. Also, her projects for her classes were due around the same time, which is unfair for students.
just keep doing what you are doing Professor.
She speaks too fast!
Professor Hubbard's teaching style is "on point". She knows her audience and how to keep them captivated. My only suggestion for improving the course would be to ditch the group projects. Students should be responsible for their individual learning and assessment. Group projects facilitate shirking.
We cover A LOT in VERY LITTLE time. Maybe explain things slower or emphasize important points that will be tested often.
Very context heavy. Might lighten the context load!
make more deadlines for the semester project to eliminate procrastination
The project was very vague. If the rubric was more structured, it would be easier to have a sense of direction.
Maybe a more structured rubric for the project, not just a paragraph. Sometimes the chart version is a little more eye pleasing and easier to understand exactly what was required.
None
This class requires a semester-long group project and, on the first day, she specifically instructed students to NOT work with people they already knew. Despite this, the vast majority of students paired up with their friends and formed groups from the very first day. That made it extremely hard for non-majors or new majors to break into the already established cliques. And God forbid you should be stuck in a group full of non-majors who are only taking the class for â??funâ??. This is a senior-level class and when the going got tough, a lot of my teammates stopped putting in the required effort. I didnâ??t feel like I could talk to Dr. Hubbard about my situation because I felt certain that I wouldâ??ve gotten a response along the lines of, â??You knew what you were getting into.â?? The group project also didnâ??t teach me much, aside from where to find the best deals on printing and how to order around people. This class requires a fairly substantial investment of money to meet the requirement of having a professionally printed manual and materials. I feel like that shouldâ??ve been more explicitly stated at the beginning. The exact project requirements were also rather nebulous, since they change slightly depending on what exactly youâ??re doing. While this might be fine if youâ??re doing the more common topics, but once you start going down the path less traveled, youâ??ll almost certainly be emailing her every week asking for confirmation on everything. I wouldâ??ve gotten a lot more out of the class if it were taught more in the style of a seminar with exams and/or quizzes in place of huge projects.

Group projects are terrible. It's so hard to work with people who don't want to do the same amount of work as you do.
The good project is a great application of class content.
I think everyone should take at least one class from Dr. Hubbard!!!
The in-class activities were awesome! Especially the ones where we were supposed to identify age, nationality and language. I wasn't very good at it, but it was a really interesting component for the class!
I enjoyed this class immensely. I will be taking two courses from her next semester and I am looking forward to them very much!

I hope to take a class with Dr. Hubbard again in the future.
Excellent course; excellent instructor.
this class was very challenging and stressful
Dr. Hubbard deserves a raise!
I extremely got my money's worth for this class, maybe because it was a 470 level, but definitely in my top five of challenging classes I have taken in my academic career here at UHM.
Enjoyed the class
Amy is so enthusiastic and a big ball of charisma that it is hard NOT to come to class or study.
Love taking courses offered by Amy Hubbard!
Professor Hubbard is such a happy person to be around. She made a dull subject very interesting to listen to! I would take a class from her again! :D

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Dr. Hubbard was very knowledgeable about what she was teaching. I really liked how she went over important things that were in the book, but a lot of her teaching was information that we couldn't find in the book, but explained it better than the book.
She has a very energetic teaching style, so her lectures are always entertaining.
she has some interesting stories about doodoo and shishi...
She had a good, positive attitude toward teaching. Made me want to come to class. Having the power points online
Her ability to relate topics discussed in class to our lives
I found Professor Hubbard to be extremely friendly and helpful towards her students. Out of my three years attending college, this course was by far my favorite and she was my favorite instructor because she demonstrates a great atmosphere in her classroom where students like myself actually wants to learn.
very professional yet fun
new and interesting information about all sorts of relationships and especially romantic ones.
Her extensive knowledge of the subject.
The most valuable aspect of Dr. Hubbard's teaching is the enthusiasm she exhibits in her lectures. She is always very excited about the concepts she covers and does a phenomenal job at keeping the students engaged and interested.
She presented material in a way that related to me. It just make things a lot easier to understand.
Iclicker questions
powerpoint slides, iclicker participation, videos/movies/study guide
She took time to personally answer any and all questions students had and listened attentively to all comments that students gave.
The way she explains the theories was super helpful.
Able to explain concepts
Clear and direct teaching style
Everything. I love her!
Knowledgeable about course content. Passionate about teaching and subject.
Examples for concepts learned in class were good enough to give us a bit of understanding in certain contexts
Dr. Hubbard consistently makes class interesting. You can tell by sitting in her class that she is very passionate about the subject matter and she is eager to encourage students to feel the same way about the material. Instead of just lecturing during class, Dr. Hubbard creates interactive activities for her students to not only get them involved to participate, but to enrich the education that is being delivered. Her class projects, assignments and lectures center around our own personal interests, which makes me interested in interpersonal relationships at another level. Dr. Hubbard doesn't only stick to one learning style approach; instead she uses a variety of ways to get our attention, which motivates her students to learn.
Being enthusiastic about subject matter helps keep students engaged and wanting to come to class.
She presented the course material in a way that was fun and interesting. I especially enjoyed her little in-class activities. Since I am a Communications major, this class proved to be one that I will surely remember and incorporate in my life overall. Because her tests were surely difficult, it pushed me to study harder than usual... I appreciated that because of the extra motivation to earn the best grade possible.
She has so much enthusiasm that makes the content more interesting and exciting.
She is a very nice teacher, and cares abut the students.
She really cared about what she was teaching and wanted the class to learn
Her insight into interpersonal relationships
How she interacted with everyone (40 students) in the classroom. How she explained the material by using real life situations really made it easier to understand. She's great with interactions and has students voluntarily participate in class. She also gives extra credit to her exams
Is extremely knowledgeable and excited about every lecture, which made going to class really easy and fun!
She was very knowledgeable on the subject and found ways to entertain the entire class to keep our attention.
Amy always shows a lot of enthusiasm and uses the class time very efficiently. Her teaching style makes class fun and her examples are very useful.
The tests were valuable because they forced me to focus on the content of lectures.
The most valuable thing about Amy Hubbard would be her teaching style because it keeps the class lively which leads to their participation. She doesn't undermine anyone's opinions but helps them understand their point of view.
All requirements for class projects and assignments were clearly laid out.
She is easy to talk to and wants to help you succeed.
Dr. Hubbard is an excellent professor who shows clear understanding of what she is teaching. Fast paced, but will slow down for any student who needs help.
Classes are always interesting and has people getting involved. It made learning fun and made you want to come to class. Amy Hubbard also is available to help and is very helpful when needed too.
Amy's knowledge of the material and enthusiasm was the most valuable and helpful aspects of her teaching. She seems excited when teaching and engages us.
She keeps the class going, never boring or dull
Group discussions and activities were my favorite things about class. The topics covered in this class are very interesting to begin with but Amy presents the material in a really efficient and interesting manner.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
no group project please. dont make it so obvious that you are actively listening, sometimes when you are actively listening you kind of interrupt and misinterpret stuff
Time management, a lot of time too much talking over the time when class was suppose to be done
slow down talking sometimes
i didnt like how we were tested on things on the book that werent covered by lecture.
Dr. Hubbard is extremely fast-paced in both her coursework and teaching style. She covers a lot of ground and doesn't slow down.
There are no suggestions I can make for improving the course or Dr. Hubbard's teaching style/methods. All of Dr. Hubbard's students recognize and respect that she ALWAYS puts an incredible amount of time and effort into her class. So although her classes have a reputation of being demanding, she comes highly recommended for any student who desires to gain a wealth of knowledge from one of the best professors within the whole University of Hawaii system. Dr. Hubbard does everything within her means to provide the best learning environment and appreciates and rewards the hard work of her students.
She goes through the subject matter a little fast.
The notes should include more from the book
maybe for the breakup song presentation, be more specific (more details) as to what is expected...maybe show examples as to what you want to see to get a good grade!
Amy has a tenancy to talk way to fast. Because her exams are filled with terms and definitions, it would benefit the students if she SLOWED down. Less group time during class would be beneficial. These breaks are unnecessary and distracting. College students do not need to break into group discussion every 15 minutes. Lastly, drop the group paper. Putting five different minds and writing styles into one paper is often a disaster.

Dr. Hubbard tends to talk really quickly when she gets into a grove. Maybe just slow down a tad.
She is great!
More time to cover all the course content. :)
I think a rubric should be implemented for homework assignments and projects versus basing points, given or deducted, for components of the assignment you feel are thorough or insufficient. There's an overview of what we should include, but there is no point system specifying where points are awarded. Also, material covered in the text should be mentioned in the lecture so we know what information in the text to make a note of.
Dr. Hubbard's exams are very challenging, so maybe creating a way to give pointers, helpful tips or example essay questions beforehand that will allow us to understand how to tackle the exam in a better way.
This course was packed with loads of information and our class met 50 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That being said, I felt as though her lectures were really fast and I would often feel rushed when jotting down notes. One time in particular, a student even had to ask her to slow down her rate of speech. Perhaps for future students, this class should only be scheduled two days (such as Tuesdays and Thursdays) so instead of 50 mins, it's an hour and 15. I'm aware that overall it's still 2 and a half hours per week, but I feel as though the instructor wouldn't feel as rushed to give lectures if time weren't so short. This has nothing to do with her teaching methods, just time. I have no problem with the way she taught this course.
I wasn't a fan of the text book. It was hard to find certain concepts and very long chapters with long paragraphs. Also she talks fast so sometimes I would write concepts down but they would not stick in my head.
More clarity for exams
having clearer notes... more definitions
I heard a lot of my peers complain that she is to critical a grader.
The exams were a little tough and there was too much information to retain.
None
I feel that the exams cover a little too much content. Memorizing many lists is kind of pointless and not very effective.
Sometimes there will be random homework assignments that are not listed in the syllabus. Even though they were easy to complete, I can be difficult on people who are hard pressed for time.
The book seemed irrelevant to the course. I did not buy it, and seemed to get along fine. Papers need to have rubrics for point distribution. Without a rubric it seems that the professor would have a hard time defending grades. There must be a clear explanation for a 77 on a paper verses a 78. The student should clearly be able to recognize this without reading between the lines of "this is a really good paper". Without a rubric a student may feel like papers have been graded based on opinion.
I have had this professor in a previous class and find no discrepancy in her teaching style and methods. They work well and have been proven. The projects are highly affective on your grade.
Perhaps slowing down on explaining the material covered, or cutting down on the topics or subjects covered. Sometimes it is a bit overwhelming.
I think they break up songs analysis project should NOT be a group assignment or should be optional as an individual or group assignment.
Perhaps slowing down speaking/lectures in general. Lectures covers too much too fast, not impossible but I think all students would have a fully better understanding if she spent more time lecturing less work.
If there were to be more live examples of showing what we've learned rather than strictly being tested on it, it would've made the class much much better.
Amy could move a little slower when teaching. Sometimes she gets too fast (probably because of her enthusiasm and excitement for class).

Slow down a little. It's funny how she gets excited and starts talking really fast though.

Dr. Hubbard exemplifies the essential skills needed to achieve success not only in school, but in all facets of life.
Amy Hubbard is a great professor. I have already recommended the class to some of my friends. She explains things easily and gives real-life examples to support the research in the texts.
The tests were very off putting. Her standards for papers are not concise
great class, great teacher, learned a lot!
The text book was rather dry reading.

She made coming to class enjoyable and the class period just flew by. I learned a lot from this class as well as about myself. I really enjoyed her as a professor because of her bubbly personality.
really enjoyed this class!
Dr. Hubbard is probably the best professor I've taken at UH. She is always well prepared and the most organized. I would recommend her to any student.
I really enjoy taking classes from Dr. Hubbard. She is an excellent instructor, the only thing that I have a extremely difficult time on is her exams. For her exams, it's important to know everything, even the material outside the study guide, including the textbook. However, it is worth it to take a class from her because she challenges you in ways that push yourself to go above and beyond.
For the group project at the end of the semester, she should not have a group member evaluation. Although this seems to be a fair way to give everyone in the group the grade that they deserve, I believe that it may harm an individual. I had given my group members ideas and suggestions and said that I would help finalize the paper but then they asked what grade I had gotten from a previous paper and I was told that they wanted someone else instead. I felt that I had given a honest effort in trying to contribute to the group but was singled out and was told that a group member thought that I did not do anything. Of course I could not contribute as much as I wanted to if I kept getting shut down and told that someone else is going to do a certain part of the paper.
She never wears the same outfit :)
Keep up with your teaching methods! They're great and really got everyone in class interesting. The exams are tough but the material and how you present them really balances out with the exams :)
This class was by far my favorite class taken at UH
None.
Group projects do not access group work. In actuality they access how well one or two people can do an entire project. Is that what you want to know? A defense may be that there are evaluations. Do these evaluations do anything? I do not understand why professors assign group projects. Instead of five person groups, consider doing pairs of people. This way work can be distributed more equally. Five people cannot write a five page paper that is at the college level. I took a Group Leadership class over the Summer in the Speech Department. My professor shunned group work...for a class about group work, this should say something. This class was insightful.. I had a closed mind toward relationships upon registering for the course, and now my mind is even more closed.
Thanks for an awesome semester.
I am planning on taking her Non-verbal class next semester.
Too much of our grade is ridden on a test, but it was still an awesome class.
very good teacher :]
Group papers are really difficult because most times people don't put in work and it's left all up to one or two people. It's good to have them though because it teaches us how to work in groups in the real world.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
The way course readings were integrated from beginning to end, and explaining how the theories and concepts related to each other.
Her feedback about my performance as a student - very constructive and motivating. And, although at times the work attached to this course seemed overwhelming, I can confidently say that this class taught me more material and improved my abilities as a student more so than any other course I've taken as an undergrad or grad.
This class was extremely well organized. Anything I was unclear about, Amy was right there to help me gain a better understanding. I would recommend any of her class to everyone looking to get there moneys worth in college. You will come out of the class with a sense of accomplishment. I always enjoy Amy's energy in class and never feel that I am bored in class. Thanks for a wonderful semester!
Her depth of knowledge was amazing. She would have complete grasp of the theory and methodology behind ALL the readings. Not most, all of them. Not only that, she knew OTHER research that informed the current material--along with THEIR theory and methodology. Astounding.
Amy is accessible to students even during last minute notifications. She is very helpful and explains everything thoroughly.
She was Amy Hubbard
The significant time that was allowed for class discussion provided us with the opportunity to voice differing opinions, critically analyze the content, and propose new theories. This was very valuable!
She gave us informative and clear feedback to our presentation and weekly assignments. Such feedback is valuable to me. I think I was able to improve my presentation and writing based on her feedback.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
- Review assigned readings the day they were due...going over articles that were from 2 classes ago took up time and was too difficult given the amount of readings assigned each week.
I wish I could offer some constructive criticism, but honestly this class is very well organized!
The activity where students were filmed and "interrogated" was a little off- putting, I think. Definitely inventive and even useful--but slightly abrasive. Perhaps some forewarning or other semblance of informed consent could be gained before repeating it. I'm also a little wary about so much emphasis being placed on the class research project. A failure of the project suggests failure of the class-- which is not necessarily in the control of the students. We shall see.
Sometimes Amy is very intimidating so it scares students a little bit. People might anticipate speaking because of it.
The weekly readings and writings were informative and invaluable, but they accounted for 75% of the coursework in hours while only being worth 10% of the coursework in points. I feel that they should be worth more points so that there is a greater feeling of justification for the time spent.
I loved her teaching style. One thing is that I felt sometime overwhelmed by a lot of weekly readings and writing discussion questions to each of them. At one point, I felt that I might be able to absorb the reading materials better if there were less readings. However, thinking from now, I am glad that I was exposed to a lot of reading materials. This helped me learn how to read articles quickly yet efficiently.

Thanks again for everything you helped me accomplish this semester!
I hope this class remains a staple of the program. I dare say I have learned more in this class than in any other class in the department.
Discussions during class were very helpful! Amy made sure all students grasp the concept before moving on to a different topic! She is a great teacher! I learned a lot from the deception course!

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Her lectures are very interesting, easy to listen to and cover a lot of material.
She is very enthused and knowledgeable on the topic.
Amy is there to help any student with whatever they need, she is very patient with all of her students.
very helpful and enthusiastic about the material
You can tell that she really loves teaching the material =)
Lectures were great, kept attention. Guest speakers aided to what we were learning and were interesting. Dr. Hubbard is always enthusastic and shows that she loves what she is doing.
Wonderful professor- I would highly recommend her.
She always takes the time to explain difficult concepts in a way that everyone will understand. She is really passionate about teaching and that encourages us to be enthusiastic as well.
she is the best teacher i have ever had
Professor Hubbard is an amazing educator. She is very clear and communicates the course material with a lot of enthusiasm. Her positive attitude is infectious. It is obvious that she puts a lot of effort into organizing her lectures, assignments, and exams. Her integrity goes unmatched! Professor Hubbard's work ethic is OUTSTANDING. She motivated me to go beyond simply completing the assignments and strive for excellence. I have not met many other professors with her caliber of professionalism and dedication to each and every one of her students.
Her personality.
Group work done in class to better understand concepts
The fact that she knows all the latest research and answered all of our questions to the best of her knowledge (she pretty much knew every answer to our questions) and the fact she was available for help outside of class time made this class an enjoyable one.
Her willingness to use every type of technological tool available in order to show us the varying degrees of deception that occurs in our every day lives. Also her willingness to help any student if needed.
This is my third course with Dr. Hubbard and what is most valuable about Dr. Hubbard is her ability to make the course material interesting and easy to understand. Dr. Hubbard is extremely helpful and is open to questions.
I valued your knowledge. You were so helpful in providing clear information regarding the resources available to do well in your class. (Ex. Use of office hours, making appts with you if we can't make office hours, etc. Also, the trust you gave to borrow the brand-new camera to record the deception experiment. Mahalo)
She is the most enthusiastic, well informed and challenging teacher I have had while at the University of Hawaii. She makes her classes fun and interesting with dynamic activities and class work, yet still maintains a professional and highly challenging curriculum.
Very prepared, organized, clear with instructions, and helpful. Also, Amy asks questions that encourage students to engage in critical thinking.
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I can't think of anyway she could improve.
I think Amy does a great job with teaching, but could improve on giving more precise instructions for projects.
none
EVerything was great how it was, wouldn't change anything
I like the way the class is structured in style and organization. Sometimes we cover a topic too swiftly- it would be more effective to have a review and bridge ideas from topic to topic.
I would suggest listing all assignments on the syllabus, not just the big ones. That way everyone will know exactly what is due for the next class. I would also suggest more tv/moive clips opposed to full length episodes.

I like how are her classes basically have the same standards. The group project though was a bit difficult but it was her first try in trying to set up a class research project. But she had everything ready and made changes when needed so it was fun and enjoyable to do.

24. Other comments:
I had a great time in this class. I have loved all the classes I have taken with Amy Hubbard.
Enjoyed the class, but did not really like the projects. The debate was good except I didn't feel like any of us knew what we were doing, and the research project was a little difficult trying to get friends to deceive other people on one particular day.
I loved this class!
THe readings and lectures were interesting and good, projects were fun and helpful. Learned a lot from this class. I would definitely recommend this class and Hubbard to everyone I know.
