19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?

The most valuable thing about amy is that she is very enthusiastic, which keeps you engaged and interested in the class. Found that her passion and energy made the class a lot more enjoyable which ended up making learning the material that much more solid. She was kind and very understanding. She also seemed to enjoy teaching the subject and knew a lot about it. Dr. Hubbard is a very knowledgable in the course and brings not only experience to the class but also insight and makes the class very fun and interesting. She made class very, very interesting and relative to life. She made the class lively and entertaining. Creating various examples about the main concepts made it much easier for me to learn and recall the concept. As she was enthusiastic about the class, I became enthusiastic too. You make the classroom setting feel comfortable. She connects to her students in the classroom and outside of class. She's always upbeat in class, and this is the only class that I have never fallen asleep. Dr. Hubbard always has a smile on her face and always has a positive attitude. She is very enthusiastic in her lectures. She gives great examples to help you better understand. You can always ask her questions if you are unsure about something. She communicates well and emails you back right away. She makes class enjoyable. I liked how she is always there when you need help. She is very opened minded to any questions that I may have and she just makes me feel like know matter how hard the work is, I can do it. I clicker She made class fun and made it very engaging. She made the material relate to our daily lives, making it interesting. Dr. Hubbard's enthusiasm and knowledge really helped inspire me to want to learn the course objectives. Dr. Hubbard was very well versed in the subject matter and presented it in a very entertaining and interseting way. I really enjoyed her lectures becasue she was able to relate the class material to things that occur in our daily lives. She makes the classes very interesting and insightful. She makes you want to learn the content she is teaching. Her enthusiasm while teaching always helped to make the class excited about the material as well. She always used very practical examples that we could all relate to which made it easier to understand the concepts that she was teaching rather than remembering definitions out of a book. The slides Everything. Seemed personally vested in the work she presented. she is so enthusiastic in every class session. she is so fun to listen to and she motivates me to learn and be successful in her class. I found that giving examples about the material and relating it back to our every day life made it more interesting to learn. Awesome teacher easy to talk to and ask for help She is very enthusiastic about everything, it makes you want to learn from her and also makes the material easier to understand. She made everything interesting and made everyone feel comfortable sharing their ideas and experiences. The in-class activities made the topics we were discussing clear and easy to understand. I like the feeling of the professor enjoying teaching a course, it makes the class more enjoyable. If I didn't understand a concept a term she gave me examples that helped me better understand the material. This class was my favorite class this semester. I enjoyed Amy's teaching style and her energy every class. She always seemed excited about the topics she taught and always tended to her students when they didn't understand. she's enthusiastic She was able to keep me engaged throughout the class. It's not just because I enjoyed the material, Amy made it easy to learn the material because she did a great job teaching/explaining. I appreciated Dr. Hubbard's ability to explain concepts in a basic way, and Dr. Hubbard's examples of the concepts helped me to understand the relationship between the class concepts and real-life scenarios. She knows her material very well and I felt that she would always make sure we had everything covered before the exam. The Lectures She is very personable during her lectures, and extremely friendly inside and outside of class. She is more than willing to help you out, and definitely rewards the students who put effort into participating and doing projects/homework. She knew what she was talking about.

20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

none N/A I don't really have any suggestions. All that I have to say is that I thought watching video clips, having iClicker questions, and various group discussions were very helpful to me as I learned about the material. I know that I learned a lot from this course. N/A. She's perfect as it is. n/a She can make her test more light, her study exams especially more light. Overall she did lighten up a lot fromt her nonverbal communication class thank god but her test are still very insane. None I understand that she couldn't be here in November because of a conference, but I felt like there wasn't the same depth to the material like there was for the first half of the semester (before the midterm) For the group project, I would suggest having a group chose a group leader to mediate decisions in the group. This will more accurately reflect the real world in which a project leader is always assigned. There are no suggestions. The textbook is a little dry...if there was something more exciting, that would probably be helpful. Study guides are not clear.. Would be nice to not have test that I could know that it was cover and I understand.. Nothing to improve on, she is animated and keeps the class entertained the whole time. Nada. Dr. Hubbard's teaching style is fantastic! I love how she uses activities to get the main idea of the material. It helps me understand the material in another level. Your tests make me want to kill myself!! not really but it's annoying getting good grades on home work and projects and then knowing the material but not doing well on the tests and with that being the majority of your grade you end up failing It's good how it is Expectations for papers and projects could be explained more clearly. N/A Her tests are way too hard, only because she's very strict about what we wrote down. I didn't enjoy having 5 point papers versus having it worth more in the class the book seemed to have nothing to do with the lectures. The lectures are not organized at all in relation to the book, like the stuff that is covered in one slide show isn't all in the same chapter in the book. the study guide is a lot more complication than it should be. lectures should be coordinated with the chapters in the book so its easier to study. She forces us to put literally EVERYTHING in the front of the class and i think that's a bit extreme. If Amy catches someone teaching, she should just automatically fail them. I felt that she didn't trust me. Nothing Maybe assigning a T.A. to her class so they can help us more outside of class like a study session before the class. More review of previous material. Sometimes your exams are a little too rigorous professor!

N/A Truthfully, I always looked forward coming to your class. You made it very enjoyable and you made me feel comfortable. Your study guide is very long, but everything on the study guide was important to take note of for the exam. One of my favorite and best professors so far. Dr Hubbard is again one of the coolest communicology teachers out there. She makes learning the material super fun and enjoyable but at the same time I still think her test are insane. She did actually lighten up on the exams way more then the non verbal class that I took with her but still if I were to ask anyone about Hubbard every says she is one of the best teachers but her test are stil insane. I did enjoy every moment with her as a teacher and he class is just so fun that I actually look forward to class every week. None Thank you Dr. Hubbard Dr. Hubbard is the best teacher I have ever had. All classes are boring compared to hers. She is a good teacher because she sparks the class's interest which is what a teacher is supposed to do. She always comes into class smiling, so it makes us in a good mood to learn. She also is very sociable, which makes the class have a good atmosphere. Study guides are not clear.. Would be nice to not have test that I could know that it was cover and I understand.. Dr. Hubbard is one of two of the best teachers I've ever had at UH Manoa. I've been here for 4 Years now and being a senior, I've had a number of teachers, however, Dr. Hubbard is one of those rare teachers that knows her stuff and knows how to teach it. She is the only teacher though that I enjoy spending every minute of in class because its so FUN. I never thought I would have FUN in a class in college because of all the teachers I've already had, but Dr. Hubbard broke that streak this semester. She's the best! Nope. Really liked Professor Hubbard as a teacher. I heard of her as the infamous instructor in the comg department and am glad to have finally had her as a teacher. Thank you Dr. Hubbard for a wonderful semester. I learned so much from you and I truly feel you are one of the best professors at UH-Manoa. Very good teacher, really pushed me! 19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?

Dr. Hubbard was able to present the theories and concepts of deception in multiple ways that were both informative and entertaining. I really enjoyed that she didn't just stick to powerpoint slides, but varied the material with multimedia and guest speakers. Friendly and open to discussion. She's very excited in teaching Deception that it really helps the students think more about the topics. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Having taken Dr.Hubbard for other Communicology courses in the past, I appreciated her consistency in always being well-prepared with her lectures and course content, dressing professionally, while also being friendly and approachable. Her enthusiasm for the class content motivated me to actively participate in class as well as see her during office hours to discuss in more detail about class material, etc. Amy has one of the best teaching methods I have ever experienced. Technically, it is still called a "lecture," however, Amy makes lectures fun and interactive. She is always open to other people's opinions and is always willing to take that extra time and step to make sure a student understands the content. Amy explains the content so well that it's nearly impossible for one to not understand something. That's how good she is at teaching. And I also loved that we had entertaining guest speakers for this class. Her knowledge about Communicology and her effective teaching style. The way she teaches makes learning interesting and fun. Amy has expertise in her subject and is adept at explaining complex ideas. She makes every class I take from her interesting and exciting. She makes me want to learn to get good grades in her class, because she is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I really like how she makes the material interesting and how she asks questions to get everyone involved. She is very passionate about teaching her students the subject matter. In turn, the students seemed passionate to engage themselves in their learning. Hubbard was very knowledgeable and was able to convey messages in ways that were easy for us to understand. She also made the information very interesting, making it easy for me to follow along in the class. Teaching style and amount of work Really friendly and made the class fun. Always excited to go to class Most valuable would have to be all of the content about deception. Amy Hubbard is most helpful in the sense that she is willing to repeat explanations if a student doesn't understand. She seems well-versed in teaching. She is friendly, open and personable. Dr. Hubbard's classes are difficult. If one is an "A" student, they will get a "B", and so forth. However, the learning opportunity is worth the trade off in harsh grading.

20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

N/A Is currently fine the way it is. MORE CANDY! Textbook is hard to read Perhaps not so much reliance on the iclicker questions to factor into our overall grades. It was sort of a hassle to always remember to bring my iclicker with me to class in order to get attendance and participation credit for the day. Amy doesn't need to make any improvements. Her teaching method is perfect. n/a None. Class is an A+ Small assignments included on the syllabus schedule. The only suggestion I would have is making an option for the final project/paper as an individual work. I wish to have learn more on detecting deception. How people to detect me on deception None None. I like Dr. Hubbard as a professor but not the way she teaches. She comes off as contradictory. She is always smiling, which one would attribute to having easy exams but that is not the case. Her exams are long and tedious. She has a certain reputation within in the COMG dept. being known as the most difficult professor. I'm not saying that it is entirely her fault but she could ease up on her exams. I feel that I struggle to complete it within the time allotted. She may come off as intimating at first but I have learned to enjoy her as a professor. I still do not enjoy exams. I also have difficulty completing the review sheet. 88 questions (I've heard they were more in the past) to study is not something to mess with. For me, 50 questions is manageable. 88 is nearly double that amount.

I don't mean to offend but she seems too happy for some reason. Looking forward to Grad School :) Best Deceptive Communicology class I've ever taken. MORE CANDY FOREAL This course was one of the most interesting courses out of all of Communicology for me personally. It was just so captivating and stimulating to learn about deception, something that is looked down upon in society. Amy is an amazing teacher. Best instructor at UH. my only complaint is that the text is so expensive. I enjoyed this class a lot. Need to keep the deception class I hope she takes these comments into consideration for her future classes. Albeit, she is a strict grader and her exams are tedious, students still enjoy having her as a professor. If her exams were easier, I would think more students would enjoy having her. She does have some weird mannerisms (e.g., waving hands in the air when class is done, always smiling, etc.). Thank You Dr. Hubbard for teaching COMG 472. It was a long and hard-fought journey to the end. I tried aiming for that A but as long as I pass your class, I am good. This was the first time 472 was officially taught as a class. If this class is taught again the future, the professor who is teaching it, whether it is you or some one else, can learn from us "the guinea pig class" and implement some better changes to the curriculum. I did like those guest presenters. I would say I enjoyed Chris the Magician more so than the lie detector expert. It was informative, nonetheless. The text book Deceptive Communication In Human Interactions is a keeper.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?

Amy Hubbard's enthusiasm and variety of teaching methods were most valuable. -she was enthusiastic about course content -she presented in fun ways, using videos, pictures, relevant examples, iclicker questions GREAT professor. I actually enjoyed coming to class. Discussions were great, made me want to participate in class communication ability She was always available in class to answer a students question before moving on to new subject material. I think she made all of us feel welcomed to participate and ask questions. Examples help me to understand concepts better. And the projects were beneficial as well. Hubbard provides a engaging, entertaining, and educational environment that makes learning easy and information retainable. The lectures given are useful, applicable, and relevant to everyday life. She is also funny, well-dressed, and easygoing. She was friendly and approachable and knew how to answer all questions in clear, precise ways. She made the expectations clear in the syllabus and made the class interesting and relevant. I fully enjoy Dr. Hubbard's teaching style. Her lectures are very interactive and kept the students attentive throughout each class. Dr. Hubbard was very organized and makes her lectures interactive, which really helps with retention. She presented a lot of good material that supplemented information from the book, and chose good relevant and interesting assignments. 1. Amy treated all students with respect and her Iclicker questions kept the students involved in class. very friendly, easy to ask those questions people might think are "dumb" When a professor is as passionate about what she is teaching, as Amy Hubbard is, you can't help but learn! She is very enthusiastic. Class was never boring. Lectures were well organized and I like hearing insights from others when she asks for examples or questions and comments throughout the lectures. They help me understand the concepts better and in a different way. Dr. Hubbard goes into the material in depth mentioning studies that are interesting and personal experiences that make the concepts more relatable. I like how she is always positive and encouraging to students. She is very respectful of others opinions and values others comments on the subjects. Enthusiastic, clear, lots of examples Very interactive during class and makes it very easy to listen and learn. She was very energetic. she loves the subject so it makes it easy to understand! Her professionalism and enthusiasm for the material made class fun and interesting and made me want to go to class She uses class time very effectively and course material is presented in a good way. Enthusiasm. She was very knowledgable on the subject and gave great examples that were relatable to each student. She is very enthusiastic about the class and made it fun to learn Provided a very detailed syllabus that gave students what is to be expected of them. Very cheerful while teaching. I enjoyed how she wanted the class to interact with each other. The examples that Dr. Hubbard used to explain terms were extremely helpful. She was able to relate everything we covered in class to us personally. Loved it! her enthusiasm and way of involving the class made it a lecture class that i wasnt almost falling asleep in halfway through. Even though some of the material was hard, Hubbard was engaging and helped students learn the material in a relatable way. Her energy kept the class attentive. What I found most valuable and helpful is that she allowed us to fully understand the course material, as well as each lesson that was taught. What I found most valuable is that her teaching style always engaged me into the lessons, and she made the class very interesting which is very important when it comes to learning.

20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

There is a lot of course content to comprehend and lectures seem to occur rapidly. I think more review time either after a lecture or an additional session before exams would be helpful. -tons of info to learn and remember -hated the group projects, please take them out or reduce the amount of group projects no improvement required Can't think of anything. She is good. The projects were fun but it'd be better if they weren't too time consuming and theyy can be worth less points as well. While I value my peers' opinions and thoughts, sometimes they are not always pertinent to the discussion topic at hand. I find it can be very tedious listening to irrelevant comments when class time is so limited. Give the study guides out earlier. Coordinate with other speech professors so that projects and midterms aren't all on the same day. Allow in class work time for projects. Please do not make the study guides for the tests/midterms so long! Study guides with over 100 questions is quite an overload of information for the students. N/A It was difficult to keep up with the notes by hand and notes are quite essential to do well on the very heavily-weighted, challenging exams. 1. More group work- it allows the class to get to know each other. n/a It's great! I would love to space out the tests more though instead of just having two! There is a lot covered for each test. Shut up the misogynists. Everyone is entitles to an opinion but not when it's blatantly disrespectful to half + the class. It didn't facilitate an open environment. (That's not your fault of course). Have more tests during the semester, so the points dont lie heavily on these. She is very good!! She speaks too fast and sometimes loses the students I would limit the amount of group papers. Everyone is too busy to met and it is very stressful. I think if we could have more time to take better notes. At times we do fly by the material. Recapping material. Study guide could be more organized and on powerpoints have a reference page we could make to book. i feel she goes over concepts really fast and speaks really fast so it hard to write as fast as she talks I feel the power point slides should contain more written content instead of being used solely for teaching purposes. That way it can serve as additional notes for exam preparation or for when students missed class. Clicker sessions should just be removed quickly and replaced with group discussions or simply incorporated into the lecture w/o the use of clicking & guessing the answer. Maybe go into depth on the lectures and readings (elaborate more). I can't think of any! It was great! Her testing methods are not effective. She requires students to study 80-100 questions just for a study guide, when they could have been shorter. The completion of her projects already show students' knowledge of the material, so her tests don't have to be that extensive. There is none. I enjoyed it very much.

thank you! -class always went by fast because she made it fun and entertaining -please do away with group projects My only favorite class this semester Every professor at UH has let me down in term of academic expectations except Amy Hubbard. Please ask her to provide communication workshops for the rest of the university. This seriously needs to be adressed... She deserves a raise! One of my favorite professors I've had even though the class is challenging. Part of the reason I've decided to become a speech major. Mahalo for a wonderful semester Dr. Hubbard. I'm looking forward to Grad-school :) I really enjoyed your class!! Overall very interesting course. I learned a lot about the subject of Interpersonal Relations. Dr. Hubbard is an excellent instructor. Class projects were not exactly related to course goals, it was a free for all- pick what you want, etc. Fun though. This professor is awesome. She is a tough grader but this not only prepares you to do well in her class, the structure is conducive to taking things from this course that are applicable to achieving success in life! Thanks Dr.Hubbard! : ) My favorite teacher at UH I find that the text book is written in an unorganized way. It was fun to be in the class I feel i learned alot of information however she expects far too much our of her students This is the only class this semester that I actually enjoyed attending. I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Hubbard's teaching and lecture style. Her classes are both interactive and fun, keeping students attentive while learning quite a lot. She is very friendly and easy to talk to. Almost brings her self down to a college level mentality. Easy to relate. The sessions when I met her outside of class for our group projects. We really got a sense of where to go from these meetings. Her enthusiasm for the course material was contagious. The study guides and the fun secret passwords for extra credit. She is really bubbly and friendly. It's easy to go up to her after class and talk about any issues you may have. Dr. Hubbard is an amazing lecturer. Sheâ??s dynamic, always willing to engage with students during class, and demonstrates concepts and gives examples which are humorous, memorable, and easy to understand. I like how she uses a variety of teaching methods to explain class material. I wasn't sure about the class until the semester began. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she demonstrates her knowledge in ways that are applicable to everyone. I appreciate that she is organized. Also, appreciative that she posts her powerpoint notes on Laulima. It makes it a lot easier to prepare for class and feel certain about the readings that should be done prior to class. Dr. Hubbard's comprehensive knowledge of the course matter and her ability to clearly explain difficult concepts and drill knowledge home, not only through repetition, but also through relevant exercises make her a valuable and helpful teacher. She knew the course material like the back of her hand. This helped us when we had hard questions about the course content. Dr. Hubbard is always very prepared for each lesson. She creates an environment for her students to be challenged and excel in their educational endeavors. The instructor's wealth of knowledge Dr. Hubbard is every engaging in her lecture. I love her mix of real life examples, exercises and theory. NA Displays exceptional enthusiasm on the things she teaches Her knowledge of the subjects she teaches is so vast that any problem or misunderstanding you might have with the course work she can diffuse immediately. Dr. Hubbard is the most enthusiastic teacher that I've ever had, and we would all be getting our moneys worth at this university if every professor taught like Dr. Hubbard. easy to talk to and very helpful when you need it she is very nice Her examples of terms were easy to follow because she relates these concepts to everyday life situations. She keeps class fun and interesting. She is very funny and makes the material very easy to relate to. Her requirements for projects were specific, which helped students understand exactly how she wanted the assignment to be done. high energy class kept attention of students -enthusiastic Excited about the topic! She's very knowledgeable on the subject material, so if a student doesn't understand, she has other ways or angles of explaining the concept. She is thorough in presenting class lectures, presented the material in a way as to engage my undivided attention for the hour and fifteen minutes of class time, twice a week, and - yes, when I recall Communicology Department, she definite pops up in my head of noteworthy professors. Wonderful and brilliant! Allowing us to get involved in group discussions and allowing to hear what other students wanted to say. She is very friendly and approachable. She makes the content interesting and fun. Professor Hubbard is one of the most dynamic instructors on the UH campus. The amount of material she covers in class is sometimes overwhelming, but her enthusiasm for the the subject (as witnessed in every class lecture) makes up for it. Dr. Hubbard exhibited a very comprehensive knowledge of the field. She was also extremely helpful in her office hours. Her course content was structured and we never wasted class time. She is very enthusiastic, funny, and has great class exercises. She is great. Amy was really approachable and easy to talk to. Amy knows her material really well and is able to explain/break something down till it makes sense. She was wiling to go out of her way to help me regarding even things unrelated to her class material!

20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

I would suggest shortening the study guides for the midterm/final. They were quite long and excessive. So probably in the future, working on consising the study guides for students would be extremely helpful in their studying. None Maybe a more structured rubric for the project, not just a paragraph. Sometimes the chart version is a little more eye pleasing and easier to understand exactly what was required. just keep doing what you are doing Professor. Give time in class for the project and explain the project a little more, make it a little less costly, and give more options The project was very vague. If the rubric was more structured, it would be easier to have a sense of direction. This class requires a semester-long group project and, on the first day, she specifically instructed students to NOT work with people they already knew. Despite this, the vast majority of students paired up with their friends and formed groups from the very first day. That made it extremely hard for non-majors or new majors to break into the already established cliques. And God forbid you should be stuck in a group full of non-majors who are only taking the class for â??funâ??. This is a senior-level class and when the going got tough, a lot of my teammates stopped putting in the required effort. I didnâ??t feel like I could talk to Dr. Hubbard about my situation because I felt certain that I wouldâ??ve gotten a response along the lines of, â??You knew what you were getting into.â?? The group project also didnâ??t teach me much, aside from where to find the best deals on printing and how to order around people. This class requires a fairly substantial investment of money to meet the requirement of having a professionally printed manual and materials. I feel like that shouldâ??ve been more explicitly stated at the beginning. The exact project requirements were also rather nebulous, since they change slightly depending on what exactly youâ??re doing. While this might be fine if youâ??re doing the more common topics, but once you start going down the path less traveled, youâ??ll almost certainly be emailing her every week asking for confirmation on everything. I wouldâ??ve gotten a lot more out of the class if it were taught more in the style of a seminar with exams and/or quizzes in place of huge projects. I honestly can't suggest much, except releasing study guides for exams a little earlier! I loved it all. Hmmm...less iClicker maybe? (Takes up a lot of time) Very context heavy. Might lighten the context load! NA Not so long study guides :) make more deadlines for the semester project to eliminate procrastination more information on slides, i didnt learn well from her powerpoints Her study guides and exams did not have to be so long, especially for students taking two of her classes. It is a lot of material to study for. Also, her projects for her classes were due around the same time, which is unfair for students. -more info on slides of ppt -less group assignments She speaks too fast! Lots of content and some of it is not well represented on the exams. Some items on the exams are not thoroughly explained in class and seem like a minor detail. Other things that are explained in depth and are repeated aren't on the exam. Professor Hubbard's teaching style is "on point". She knows her audience and how to keep them captivated. My only suggestion for improving the course would be to ditch the group projects. Students should be responsible for their individual learning and assessment. Group projects facilitate shirking. I found myself having a hard time keeping up with the lectures in the way they were structured. Important definitions and examples were spoken only verbally, and she moved so quickly that it was hard to get the important information down. Even having read the book, and reviewing my notes (which I take pretty meticulously) I still had missed the 'key concepts' that were found on the test. I felt that I had a firm grasp of the study guide, and still got a low C on the exam. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but perhaps writing the definitions on the slides for in class (and omitting them from what she puts online) would help? None. We cover A LOT in VERY LITTLE time. Maybe explain things slower or emphasize important points that will be tested often.

One of my favorite classes so far in my college career. I hope to take a class with Dr. Hubbard again in the future. Professor Hubbard is such a happy person to be around. She made a dull subject very interesting to listen to! I would take a class from her again! :D I think everyone should take at least one class from Dr. Hubbard!!! Excellent course; excellent instructor. Group projects are terrible. It's so hard to work with people who don't want to do the same amount of work as you do. Love taking courses offered by Amy Hubbard! NA Nonverbal Communication was a pleasure taking! Dr. Hubbard deserves a raise! this class was very challenging and stressful I extremely got my money's worth for this class, maybe because it was a 470 level, but definitely in my top five of challenging classes I have taken in my academic career here at UHM. The good project is a great application of class content. Enjoyed the class The in-class activities were awesome! Especially the ones where we were supposed to identify age, nationality and language. I wasn't very good at it, but it was a really interesting component for the class! Amy is so enthusiastic and a big ball of charisma that it is hard NOT to come to class or study. I enjoyed this class immensely. I will be taking two courses from her next semester and I am looking forward to them very much!

It made learning fun and made you want to come to class. Amy Hubbard also is available to help and is very helpful when needed too. She really cared about what she was teaching and wanted the class to learn very professional yet fun She took time to personally answer any and all questions students had and listened attentively to all comments that students gave. All requirements for class projects and assignments were clearly laid out. Group discussions and activities were my favorite things about class. The topics covered in this class are very interesting to begin with but Amy presents the material in a really efficient and interesting manner. Her extensive knowledge of the subject. Able to explain concepts She had a good, positive attitude toward teaching. Made me want to come to class. Having the power points online She was very knowledgeable on the subject and found ways to entertain the entire class to keep our attention. The way she explains the theories was super helpful. The tests were valuable because they forced me to focus on the content of lectures. Dr. Hubbard is an excellent professor who shows clear understanding of what she is teaching. Fast paced, but will slow down for any student who needs help. She has a very energetic teaching style, so her lectures are always entertaining. Being enthusiastic about subject matter helps keep students engaged and wanting to come to class. The most valuable thing about Amy Hubbard would be her teaching style because it keeps the class lively which leads to their participation. She doesn't undermine anyone's opinions but helps them understand their point of view. Clear and direct teaching style She is easy to talk to and wants to help you succeed. Everything. I love her! Amy's knowledge of the material and enthusiasm was the most valuable and helpful aspects of her teaching. She seems excited when teaching and engages us. Knowledgeable about course content. Passionate about teaching and subject. Dr. Hubbard was very knowledgeable about what she was teaching. I really liked how she went over important things that were in the book, but a lot of her teaching was information that we couldn't find in the book, but explained it better than the book. Dr. Hubbard consistently makes class interesting. You can tell by sitting in her class that she is very passionate about the subject matter and she is eager to encourage students to feel the same way about the material. Instead of just lecturing during class, Dr. Hubbard creates interactive activities for her students to not only get them involved to participate, but to enrich the education that is being delivered. Her class projects, assignments and lectures center around our own personal interests, which makes me interested in interpersonal relationships at another level. Dr. Hubbard doesn't only stick to one learning style approach; instead she uses a variety of ways to get our attention, which motivates her students to learn. she has some interesting stories about doodoo and shishi... She has so much enthusiasm that makes the content more interesting and exciting. Her ability to relate topics discussed in class to our lives She is a very nice teacher, and cares abut the students. I found Professor Hubbard to be extremely friendly and helpful towards her students. Out of my three years attending college, this course was by far my favorite and she was my favorite instructor because she demonstrates a great atmosphere in her classroom where students like myself actually wants to learn. She presented the course material in a way that was fun and interesting. I especially enjoyed her little in-class activities. Since I am a Communications major, this class proved to be one that I will surely remember and incorporate in my life overall. Because her tests were surely difficult, it pushed me to study harder than usual... I appreciated that because of the extra motivation to earn the best grade possible. How she interacted with everyone (40 students) in the classroom. How she explained the material by using real life situations really made it easier to understand. She's great with interactions and has students voluntarily participate in class. She also gives extra credit to her exams new and interesting information about all sorts of relationships and especially romantic ones. Her insight into interpersonal relationships She presented material in a way that related to me. It just make things a lot easier to understand. Is extremely knowledgeable and excited about every lecture, which made going to class really easy and fun! The most valuable aspect of Dr. Hubbard's teaching is the enthusiasm she exhibits in her lectures. She is always very excited about the concepts she covers and does a phenomenal job at keeping the students engaged and interested. Amy always shows a lot of enthusiasm and uses the class time very efficiently. 20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

The notes should include more from the book N/a I think a rubric should be implemented for homework assignments and projects versus basing points, given or deducted, for components of the assignment you feel are thorough or insufficient. There's an overview of what we should include, but there is no point system specifying where points are awarded. Also, material covered in the text should be mentioned in the lecture so we know what information in the text to make a note of. If there were to be more live examples of showing what we've learned rather than strictly being tested on it, it would've made the class much much better. having clearer notes... more definitions i didnt like how we were tested on things on the book that werent covered by lecture. Perhaps slowing down on explaining the material covered, or cutting down on the topics or subjects covered. Sometimes it is a bit overwhelming. Slow down a little. It's funny how she gets excited and starts talking really fast though. Dr. Hubbard is extremely fast-paced in both her coursework and teaching style. She covers a lot of ground and doesn't slow down. None Time management, a lot of time too much talking over the time when class was suppose to be done I feel that the exams cover a little too much content. Memorizing many lists is kind of pointless and not very effective. The book seemed irrelevant to the course. I did not buy it, and seemed to get along fine. Papers need to have rubrics for point distribution. Without a rubric it seems that the professor would have a hard time defending grades. There must be a clear explanation for a 77 on a paper verses a 78. The student should clearly be able to recognize this without reading between the lines of "this is a really good paper". Without a rubric a student may feel like papers have been graded based on opinion. Amy has a tenancy to talk way to fast. Because her exams are filled with terms and definitions, it would benefit the students if she SLOWED down. Less group time during class would be beneficial. These breaks are unnecessary and distracting. College students do not need to break into group discussion every 15 minutes. Lastly, drop the group paper. Putting five different minds and writing styles into one paper is often a disaster. Perhaps slowing down speaking/lectures in general. Lectures covers too much too fast, not impossible but I think all students would have a fully better understanding if she spent more time lecturing less work. None I have had this professor in a previous class and find no discrepancy in her teaching style and methods. They work well and have been proven. The projects are highly affective on your grade. Dr. Hubbard tends to talk really quickly when she gets into a grove. Maybe just slow down a tad. I think they break up songs analysis project should NOT be a group assignment or should be optional as an individual or group assignment. She is great! Amy could move a little slower when teaching. Sometimes she gets too fast (probably because of her enthusiasm and excitement for class). More time to cover all the course content. :) Dr. Hubbard's exams are very challenging, so maybe creating a way to give pointers,helpful tips or example essay questions beforehand that will allow us to understand how to tackle the exam in a better way. no group project please. dont make it so obvious that you are actively listening, sometimes when you are actively listening you kind of interrupt and misinterpret stuff I wasn't a fan of the text book. It was hard to find certain concepts and very long chapters with long paragraphs. Also she talks fast so sometimes I would write concepts down but they would not stick in my head. slow down talking sometimes More clarity for exams This course was packed with loads of information and our class met 50 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That being said, I felt as though her lectures were really fast and I would often feel rushed when jotting down notes. One time in particular, a student even had to ask her to slow down her rate of speech. Perhaps for future students, this class should only be scheduled two days (such as Tuesdays and Thursdays) so instead of 50 mins, it's an hour and 15. I'm aware that overall it's still 2 and a half hours per week, but I feel as though the instructor wouldn't feel as rushed to give lectures if time weren't so short. This has nothing to do with her teaching methods, just time. I have no problem with the way she taught this course. The exams were a little tough and there was too much information to retain. I heard a lot of my peers complain that she is to critical a grader. She goes through the subject matter a little fast. None There are no suggestions I can make for improving the course or Dr. Hubbard's teaching style/methods. All of Dr. Hubbard's students recognize and respect that she ALWAYS puts an incredible amount of time and effort into her class. So although her classes have a reputation of being demanding, she comes highly recommended for any student who desires to gain a wealth of knowledge from one of the best professors within the whole University of Hawaii system. Dr. Hubbard does everything within her means to provide the best learning environment and appreciates and rewards the hard work of her students. Sometimes there will be random homework assignments that are not listed in the syllabus. Even though they were easy to complete, I can be difficult on people who are hard pressed for time. maybe for the breakup song presentation, be more specific (more details) as to what is expected...maybe show examples as to what you want to see to get a good grade!

The tests were very off putting. Her standards for papers are not concise Too much of our grade is ridden on a test, but it was still an awesome class. For the group project at the end of the semester, she should not have a group member evaluation. Although this seems to be a fair way to give everyone in the group the grade that they deserve, I believe that it may harm an individual. I had given my group members ideas and suggestions and said that I would help finalize the paper but then they asked what grade I had gotten from a previous paper and I was told that they wanted someone else instead. I felt that I had given a honest effort in trying to contribute to the group but was singled out and was told that a group member thought that I did not do anything. Of course I could not contribute as much as I wanted to if I kept getting shut down and told that someone else is going to do a certain part of the paper. The text book was rather dry reading. Group papers are really difficult because most times people don't put in work and it's left all up to one or two people. It's good to have them though because it teaches us how to work in groups in the real world. None None. Other comments: Group projects do not access group work. In actuality they access how well one or two people can do an entire project. Is that what you want to know? A defense may be that there are evaluations. Do these evaluations do anything? I do not understand why professors assign group projects. Instead of five person groups, consider doing pairs of people. This way work can be distributed more equally. Five people cannot write a five page paper that is at the college level. I took a Group Leadership class over the Summer in the Speech Department. My professor shunned group work...for a class about group work, this should say something. This class was insightful.. I had a closed mind toward relationships upon registering for the course, and now my mind is even more closed. I am planning on taking her Non-verbal class next semester. She made coming to class enjoyable and the class period just flew by. I learned a lot from this class as well as about myself. I really enjoyed her as a professor because of her bubbly personality. really enjoyed this class! Thanks for an awesome semester. very good teacher :] Dr. Hubbard is probably the best professor I've taken at UH. She is always well prepared and the most organized. I would recommend her to any student. I really enjoy taking classes from Dr. Hubbard. She is an excellent instructor, the only thing that I have a extremely difficult time on is her exams. For her exams, it's important to know everything, even the material outside the study guide, including the textbook. However, it is worth it to take a class from her because she challenges you in ways that push yourself to go above and beyond. She never wears the same outfit :) Keep up with your teaching methods! They're great and really got everyone in class interesting. The exams are tough but the material and how you present them really balances out with the exams :) Amy Hubbard is a great professor. Her feedback about my performance as a student - very constructive and motivating. And, although at times the work attached to this course seemed overwhelming, I can confidently say that this class taught me more material and improved my abilities as a student more so than any other course I've taken as an undergrad or grad. Amy is accessible to students even during last minute notifications. She is very helpful and explains everything thoroughly. The significant time that was allowed for class discussion provided us with the opportunity to voice differing opinions, critically analyze the content, and propose new theories. This was very valuable! This class was extremely well organized. Anything I was unclear about, Amy was right there to help me gain a better understanding. I would recommend any of her class to everyone looking to get there moneys worth in college. You will come out of the class with a sense of accomplishment. I always enjoy Amy's energy in class and never feel that I am bored in class. Thanks for a wonderful semester! She was Amy Hubbard She gave us informative and clear feedback to our presentation and weekly assignments. Such feedback is valuable to me. I think I was able to improve my presentation and writing based on her feedback. The way course readings were integrated from beginning to end, and explaining how the theories and concepts related to each other. Her depth of knowledge was amazing. She would have complete grasp of the theory and methodology behind ALL the readings. Not most, all of them. Not only that, she knew OTHER research that informed the current material--along with THEIR theory and methodology. Astounding.

20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

- Review assigned readings the day they were due...going over articles that were from 2 classes ago took up time and was too difficult given the amount of readings assigned each week. Sometimes Amy is very intimidating so it scares students a little bit. People might anticipate speaking because of it. The weekly readings and writings were informative and invaluable, but they accounted for 75% of the coursework in hours while only being worth 10% of the coursework in points. I feel that they should be worth more points so that there is a greater feeling of justification for the time spent. I wish I could offer some constructive criticism, but honestly this class is very well organized! I loved her teaching style. One thing is that I felt sometime overwhelmed by a lot of weekly readings and writing discussion questions to each of them. At one point, I felt that I might be able to absorb the reading materials better if there were less readings. However, thinking from now, I am glad that I was exposed to a lot of reading materials. This helped me learn how to read articles quickly yet efficiently. The activity where students were filmed and "interrogated" was a little off- putting, I think. Definitely inventive and even useful--but slightly abrasive. Perhaps some forewarning or other semblance of informed consent could be gained before repeating it. I'm also a little wary about so much emphasis being placed on the class research project. A failure of the project suggests failure of the class-- which is not necessarily in the control of the students. We shall see.

She makes her classes fun and interesting with dynamic activities and class work, yet still maintains a professional and highly challenging curriculum. Professor Hubbard is an amazing educator. She is very clear and communicates the course material with a lot of enthusiasm. Her positive attitude is infectious. It is obvious that she puts a lot of effort into organizing her lectures, assignments, and exams. Her integrity goes unmatched! Professor Hubbard's work ethic is OUTSTANDING. Her willingness to use every type of technological tool available in order to show us the varying degrees of deception that occurs in our every day lives. Also her willingness to help any student if needed. Very prepared, organized, clear with instructions, and helpful. Also, Amy asks questions that encourage students to engage in critical thinking. Amy is there to help any student with whatever they need, she is very patient with all of her students. She always takes the time to explain difficult concepts in a way that everyone will understand. She is really passionate about teaching and that encourages us to be enthusiastic as well. The fact that she knows all the latest research and answered all of our questions to the best of her knowledge (she pretty much knew every answer to our questions) and the fact she was available for help outside of class time made this class an enjoyable one. I have no suggestions as she is an amazing teacher. -- snipped -- EVerything was great how it was, wouldn't change anything I have no suggestions I think Amy does a great job with teaching, but could improve on giving more precise instructions for projects. I would suggest listing all assignments on the syllabus, not just the big ones. That way everyone will know exactly what is due for the next class. I would also suggest more tv/moive clips opposed to full length episodes. I like how are her classes basically have the same standards. The group project though was a bit difficult but it was her first try in trying to set up a class research project. But she had everything ready and made changes when needed so it was fun and enjoyable to do. I like the way the class is structured in style and organization. Enjoyed the class, but did not really like the projects. The debate was good except I didn't feel like any of us knew what we were doing, and the research project was a little difficult trying to get friends to deceive other people on one particular day. They were hard ass tests! They pushed you to think beyond what the book covers. But as you said after the first midterm, it is what you LEARN what matters. Not just the letter grade earned. I am grateful to you for offering the opportunity to re-do some of the questions we missed on the exam. The in-class activities, outside of class experimentation with strangers and using the iClicker was cool. All of this aided the real-world application of what we were learning and what you were teaching. she explained the material really well Her enthusiasm. It is very refreshing to see someone truly enjoy what they do. I hope that when I found a career, I am as passionate about what I do as she is. Her enthusiasm for her job and the content makes you WANT to go to class and learn Dr. Hubbard really works extremely hard to put in the time and effort to teach her students in a beneficial way. You can tell by her examples and activities in class that she tries her best to make sure that her students understand the material by relating the concepts to our own personal lives. I feel the energy that she brings to class not only motivates me to learn, but it also pushes me to be the best I can be. As a student she has really made me realize how far I can go and what I am capable of. Amy is an excellent teacher and I think her method of teaching is what inspires me to succeed. She uses a lot of example and does at least one exercise per chapter to help aid the learning process. Instead of always just lecturing, the student interaction helped me learn the concepts in new and different ways. Her availability and quick responses to emails and meeting requests. She also spoke loudly and clearly and did fun hand motions to keep us engaged. I found it most helpful that Amy Hubbard goes in depth on the material and is willing to give a clearer explanation on something that we do not understand. She understands the point of view of the students and works from there for us to come into a mutual understanding. Amy was very friendly and she spoke to us in a way that brought her down to the students level. It was a effective way to break the barrier between student and teacher. She had great activities in class to illustrate course concepts. she genuinely wanted to be there and wanted us to understand and comprehend the material and you can see that through her teaching very knowledgable. she explained the material in depth. enthusiasm and ability to make the class lively by using in class participation and reenacting the theories taught in class. She is extremely organized, which helped me understand the material a lot better because my mind wasn't all over the place. She is truly an amazing instructor who is passionate about the courses she teaches. Her power points are also very helpful. It makes it a lot easier to follow along with lecture. she was willing to help The activities that Dr. Hubbard included in her lectures made things a lot easier for me to understand the concepts/material. Engaging; ties in a lot of outside (really useful) activities to complement what we were learning about in class...makes learning exciting. Lecture and interpretations of meanings. She was really good at explaining things so it's easier to understand and remember. Good energy in class, makes you want to stay longer. She was very enthusiastic in her lectures and overall she is a really good teacher specifically for this subject. She was very knowledgeable about the subject matter, and was extremely well prepared for every class. She knew exactly what she wanted to do and how she wanted to spend the time. She had a very good command of the class, even when having us move around and perform various tasks. I am glad I am a Speech/Communicology Minor because I think that some people would not be as comfortable performing some of the tasks.

Dr. Hubbard's class is challenging, especially because a lot of the information on exams come not only from the class lectures but from the textbook as well. The amount of information is overwhelming - I did the study guide, went to every class, and read all the required readings, yet I had a difficult time with the exams. Perhaps having two midterms instead of just one would make it a little easier for the students. Her semester project was also very demanding considering that not all of us are good with making videos. Other than the video part, the project was okay. lose the project Make your midterm not so complicated. If most of your students either get a C or D or F then its saying that your test is either to hard, or to long, or your wording is to difficult. I don't understand why teachers make test so hard and so difficult to understand. provide study guide for exams a little earlier than a week before I think she has integrated a lot of past suggestions because I don't have anything in particular that should have even more improvement. Our first exam's class avg. was below a C. She showed how everyone did and basically half the class got D's and F's. She did not curve it, but made a assignment of picking 5 questions to do from the test to help out test scores. Even though we were offered the 5 questions I don't believe it helped that many students including me. I also think limiting her study guide questions of like 130 to just a basic outline would help the class do better on exams. The content covered in the tests are very specific, maybe if it were made a little more general, it may be better. Although, I do believe the make-up recovers for the lost points. I really don't have any suggestions of improvement. While the semester long project was somewhat stressful because of how many points it is worth altogether, I thought it was a great way to get the class more involved in the course material and in the end, was greatly beneficial. Please stop other rude students who talk when YOU are talking. I don't get where these assholes think that just b/c they sit in the back it gives them a license to hold an all-out-class-length conversation competing with the professor. They don't even make the attempt to whisper. I turned around and asked them to please be quiet b/c I couldn't hear you. Well! I was given the look of death when it was THEM that were being rude! And this isn't the only class I encountered this situation. It happens in all of my classes at UH. It's like there's no respect for the professor or fellow students! It's very annoying and I think that the professor should be the one to shut them up. Interestingly enough, none of the professors would say anything and it's not like they couldn't hear them. get your students a little more prepared for the tests Although I thought the tests were very difficult, I appreciated her option of re-doing some of the questions we may have gotten wrong to boost our grade a little. I also really liked the I-clicker class participation...It made everything more hands-on. Dr. Hubbard's tests are very challenging. It is something that you definitely shouldn't take lightly at all. Although you think you know the concepts, it's important that you understand them to the best of your ability. I think giving the study guides from the beginning of the semester would be helpful to students because that way they can fill it out each week as we go along with the concepts, rather having to do the entire study guide the week before and having to re-read the chapter or go back to find the concepts. This way students can start studying from the beginning. Maybe even providing examples of what to expect on the exam as far as fill in the blank, short answer or essay questions would also be helpful. Posting the lecture notes and power points online. She speaks very quickly and its hard to always keep up with every word she says. Posting the power points would definitely help students remember what was said in class and help them study for the tests as well. I felt that the field work and in class assignments (ie video watching, pairing up to do things, etc) were extremely fun, and the powerpoints were filled with fantastic examples/stories/discussion. But, not a lot of that was seen on the mid term. Other classes I have had are taught straight from the book and is exactly what shows up on the exam, or is straight from the lectures and is what shows up on the exam. I felt this class's exam wanted us to make the connections between the two which is a little difficult as seen in the mid term grades. I feel that even if the power points were straight from the text book it would be extremely interesting and informative. There is a lot of material in the class to uphold. The slides could give a little more information. Amy's teaching style was very unique to me and I appreciate everything about it. Job well done. I liked the fact that she engaged with our class very well. She made the material relevant to our daily lives and she was very enthusiastic about the topic. The i-clicker definitely helped us in gauging how well we knew the material and it was motivation to come to class. Activities during class was also very helpful because it was applied and we saw it in action. I enjoyed coming to her class everyday, but it was hard to pass her tests. I feel that majority of her test questions came from the book and if that was the case, she should have spent more time about what was in the book than what was gone over in class. It would feel a little more fair if that was what we were mentally prepared for, especially when it comes to tests. I don't think it was fair that more than 50% of the class fell below the C curve. The amount of material covered in tests is quite a lot, but of course it can be completed and studied. The study guides being given out with plenty of time ahead of the test would be helpful. We would then have enough time to really study the material instead of memorize and forget shortly after. The only thing I would change is to maybe have two midterms instead of just one. There was a lot of information to remember for the midterm and final and would have been a little better if they were portioned out more. none There's nothing to improve. n/a I think her teaching style is awesome, the exams are extremely difficult though. It almost makes you discouraged. I've been learning so much in this course, but I feel the exams are so difficult that i feel defeated. breakdown the material better, there were so many questions on the study guide (300) and only fifty on the test...im sorry but thats pretty rediculous. I really enjoyed our semester project, but I thought that the required material that we needed to hand in became quite expensive. Having only one midterm and one final is rough; a lot of in depth material to be covered was a little rough. In my opinion, possibly having 2 midterms and one final makes for a more manageable load. Less material to memorize for exams. Study guides were a bit long and hard to retain ALL information. Overall I have no complaints about her teaching style whatsoever. Her energy is great and I learned a lot. I think she's a wonderful professor. However, the project was very time consuming and difficult to do with such big groups. I felt like there were a lot of requirements and restrictions that made a simple concept for the project seem very tedious and difficult. It made things a lot less fun. I would also say that the tests are very difficult. I've taken speech classes with challenging tests that prove I've studied the material and understood it. It's difficult for even the people who understand the material to do well. There's a reason why only 1 or 2 people did very well on the tests. The expectation level of understanding everything is too high. I think having 6 people for the group project is too many people. It's hard to truly divide the work equally and it's easy for some group members to kind of get away without doing as much work. I think the maximum amount of people for a group should be 5 instead of 6. The group project turned out as I wanted it to, but it is a bit daunting. I think it is very crucial to really know that you have a group that has somebody who can work with media (i.e. video editing) and others who may be more inclined towards researching. It is difficult to find a balance, so I am glad that we had the 'speed dating' day to discover who we could have in our group. I also liked the deadlines that were proposed for the project; maybe make the manual due sooner so that we know how to incorporate it well into our video and presentation later. Over 100 items on the study guide seems a little unfair. While there is certainly plenty of topics to cover, that makes it very difficult to really grasp a breadth of topics. Also, it is very difficult to do the readings when there are various little assignments and then the group project. Overall, I feel that this class was too demanding.

Thank you for being so dedicated to helping students learn. There are a few professors that genuinely care about the subject and students they teach. I always looked forward to attending class! you really challenged and help me to grow as a speech minor and person! THANK YOU! feels that the project was unnecessary n that the exams covers too much. i rather take 3 exams that cover less material than 2 exams that cover alot. She's an awesome teacher and I plan to take more or even all classes with her if possible. But just her midterms are so difficult. I wish she could make it more fun in a way we can show what we learned. I honestly felt that this was one of the best classes I have taken thus far at the University. Professor Hubbard was very clear with the content given and although there is a lot of material to cover for the exams and the semester long project, I feel that this class is very interesting and I would recommend it to others as one to take. I would strongly recommend students to take this class regardless of their major. The content is so interesting and you learn something new everyday...the things you learn are things you can take into your life long after you take the class. I really enjoyed taking nonverbal communication from Amy Hubbard. Although her class is tough, she is an excellent teacher and is a great example of how other professors should format their classes. Her teaching style is very effective and enjoyable for students. I think she should be teaching other professors on how to better teach their students with her methods. Over all fantastic class! The materials learned are great for outside use. However, the exams are extremely difficult and are not curved. This is a class where it really tests you're knowledge. I would say that there should be some sort of teacher's approval to get into this class as it's very challenging. I wouldn't suggest this as a class to just get by in. I learned a lot from this course and really did enjoy it. none I learned a lot in this class. The handouts and class activities were fun and kept our attention. Her grading is very difficult, but I've learned so much from this class and I truly enjoy Amy's teaching. the syllabus is difficult to follow, I was never really sure what was due unless she said it before class. Again tests were rediculously hard and preparing for them was even worse. So many questions to understand, and there were only two exams. if she broke them up, yes there would be more tests but there would be less information that we would have to study and know. Definitely learned a lot of valuable material that can be used in all aspects of life! Being aware of self and others makes for becoming a better communicator! Enjoyed this class. The professor gave a fair warning at the beginning of the semester that this course will require a lot of time. As a graduating senior who is taking only 4 classes including this one, I still felt this was the hardest, most demanding class I have ever taken in my 4 years at this university. To do all of the work for the group project and then keep up with the readings and the class material is very difficult. Perhaps at the very least the project should be worth more than just 30% of the final grade. I spent way more time on the group project than studying for any one exam (both the midterm and final were worth 30%). I think it might be more fair to make the project worth more like 40% and the exams worth 25% each. I can see the flaw being that if somebody received a poor grade on the group project, it would really set them behind. However, this might also encourage people to really devote time to the project. Despite all I have said, I do feel I have learned from this class. I just wish it wasn't as trying to be able to learn the material.

How optimistic she is! She seems very passionate about her job. The subject matter was immediately applicable to my real life. However, I was only able to truly realized how applicable it was due to Prof. Hubbard's extraordinarily structured teaching style. Every class felt full of content and I'd feel bad if I had to miss a class because I'd think, "oh no, I'm gonna miss out on taking some valuable notes!" I usually don't feel that way about my notes for other classes. Thourough in the teaching material. She really engages the students into the lecture, including the use of iclickers and discussions. It was very effective in keeping us interested in the material, which makes us want to learn it even more. Her lectures are always worth going to and making participation a part of our grades. i like how she puts her pp online I found that it was very helpful to have the study guides for exams, and that Professor Hubbard knew the course material thoroughly. It also helped that she turned the class into an enjoyable experience. =) She seemed to have everything memorized. She never had to read notes or anything. She's a teaching MACHINE. She somehow managed to memorize everyone's names without asking us within a few weeks... Lectures were clear and kept attention, not boring. I really enjoyed the projects and how it incorporated what we were learning. She is a fair grader. She helps people understand the material in a interesting way. She takes the time to make sure everything is okay. She always has high energy and knows her subject well. she was very knowlegeable about the course subjects. she was very helpful outside of class to help me understand the concepts better. Prof. Hubbard poured much time and effort in every day's lesson. She was interesting to listen to and presented compelling content. friendly, approachable, kind, nice, knowledgable Even though she mostly just lectured the whole time, she made the lectures interesting and funny. she keeps the lecture very interesting. Although Amy is a tough teacher, I find that her classes are more valuable to me than other courses, I always learn something new in her classes, and work hard to make sure I understand everything she gives us. Use of the i-clicker was good. She knew a lot about off topic questions. MAde it seem she just knew everything Dr. Hubbard teaches this course in a refreshing manner. She encourages students to come to class and take notes by not adding the valuable information in her handouts. She uses TV shows, movies, and songs as examples to further elaborate her lessons. She also is willing to help out students when they need help by offering study sessions for exams and always being available through office hours, before and after class, and email. She always made the class interesting, fun, and useful in real life so that I felt I was actually able to learn something. Her attitude towards the class and the material. She was clarified theories, terms, and concepts in a way that any student would understand. She answered all questions asked by students while being aware of amount of time allowed for class sessions. At the beginning of each class, she goes over the main points that was discussed in the previous class. the topics that were the more difficult to understand, she spend more time discussing and answering the questions we had. By splitting the semester into 3 sections made it easier and less stressful to study for her exams. She was always in a good mood, and able to communicate class topics effectively. Her lectures are so interesting. She makes great use of class time. I never missed a single class because I enjoyed them so much. Dr.Hubbard excels at teaching and makes the material so easy to learn. This just may be the most life altering course I've taken! Break-up songs project was a lot of work, but so much fun. Maybe a little easier quiz's. Sometimes Amy speaks WAY too fast. Many times in class, I was literally scribbling as fast as I could the entire 50 minutes of lecture just to try jot down everything she was saying. It would've been MUCH more enjoyable if Amy slowed down from time to time and actually let us absorb the information -- which was very interesting. More opportunities for extra credit would be greatly appreciated. Also, Prof. Hubbard's method of letting students redeem themselves after getting questions wrong on an exam is the main thing I thought was missing from this class. Through this method, students could write the questions they got wrong, write the correct answer, write why they chose their answer, and finally, why the correct answer is the correct answer. The option to do this was a great teaching tool in other classes I've taken with Prof. Hubbard and would have helped quite a bit for this class also. Please be more clear in instructions for the 1st project. I can't think of anything to improve. enforce the rule about having more than one iclicker nothing so far More extra credit opportunities and less group projects would be greatly appreciated. No movie analysis. That wasn't fun. Nothing It's already good. She does talk a little fast. n/a more class mate interactions I think she should improve the study guide I don't that that how she does the study guide now is very helpful Perhaps, she should be more prepared for class and troubleshoot any media on the classroom computer ahead of time so she wouldn't have to push back certain parts of her lecture to another class. she doing perfectly fine. I think that she could improving, by grading a little different, I find that sometimes no matter how much works goes into the project it may still not get the grade I feel that I put in. And maybe slowing some of the course down, there is a lot of information and sometimes when we move so quickly its hard to retain the information. So that would be more helpful if she could cover more about the text. I think that this course could be improved if we had more group assignments. Quizzes throughout the semester would've been helpful for the students to keep up with the material. Other than that, the amount of work given was moderate and not overwhelming. Although our reading assignments were listed in the syllabus, oral reminders on what sections to read in the text would've been helpful. I enjoyed the iclicker questions and it really helped understand and emphasize the concepts. Using more of the iclicker would help. Make the actual class powerpoints available through Laulima for studying. I don't know how she could possibly improve. This was the best class I have ever taken. I loved it. NONE Hubbard is strict on following the criteria exactly--this is good because it teaches students to read/follow directions carefully. But, if she weren't so strict, students might be able to get more creative in the projects and add their own style/ideas rather being restricted/limited to her exact format. none She moves fast; however, she is willing to slow down the pace whenever the class asks for it. i don't have any, she is a phenomenal teaceher N/A Dr. Hubbard is extremely anal retentive and needs to loosen up regarding the requirements for her assignments. If a student misses a small detail on an assignment, they automatically receive a 0 for it, which I have to say isn't an entirely fair policy. maybe more explanations and class time for big projects. i didn't understand everything we had to do for our song-project. Make the test's easier and have more clear answer's instead of having to pick between like three very similar terms. Give out the study guide a little earlier. Explaining homeworks to us more clearly Most of the projects and papers had very specific and strict rules to follow. I would suggesting having a few open assignments, where the rules aren't so strict,allowing for more creativity. individual projects as opposed to group projects I didn't find the group activities as valuable as the lectures.

Take this course, yes its a 300 level course and I was the only freshmen in class but I learned so much relating to class and it was manageable! very enjoyable and made friends!! I wish we had more individual projects. Group projects are a major pain in the behind and no college student likes them. Please have extra credit. I'm begging you. I had an overall good experience in this class. I felt as though I learned a lot and was able to grasp the information well. Amy is one of the best professors I have had so far. Your class was thoroughly enjoyable! Also, your class was slightly on the harder side, but it made it that much more rewarding. The projects were fun. The movie analysis wasn't as fun as the break-up songs project though. I loved this class and the professor. Grading was hard but I learned so much. The textbook is horribly organized. I often needed to refer to the internet rather than my textbook because I couldn't find the information I was looking for. This shouldn't happen with an expensive book. Overall, I'm satisfied with the course and professor, and I wouldn't definitely recommend the course to a friend: in fact, I already have. The book that you picked was good, but sometimes I felt the writer was trying to hard to relate to young adults and just came off as creepy... like the hippo collection obsession... Other than that I think Amy is a great teacher, but her grading is a little scary. I would strongly recommend Dr. Hubbard to anyone interested in taking this, or any other course with her. Typically it seems as though an average A student will end up with a B, but I always learn a lot and will continue to take classes from her.

Her enthusiasm and love for teaching, she was able to explain the content that was easy to understand and remember for exams and presentations. shes willing to sit down and work with you on whatever problem you have with the class. She breaks the information down and makes it so easy to learn for just about anyone. Shes ver enthusiastic and really knows what shes talking about and knows how to get the class involved in every class. She has an amazing enthusiasm for what she teaches. This motivates the students to want to learn. How much she enjoys what she does. She is passionate about what she does and it shows through her lectures. Just the fact that she is so passionate and is such a great lecturer. She helps students to engage in the class and her passion comes off to the students. She is also very knowledgeable of the content and she definitely knows what she is doing and teaching. She's probably one of the best instructors UH has in any department/program. She has such comprehensive powerpoints and lectures. They tie into each other well. I found her powerpoint slides and questions she posed on the class were very insighful and informative. She always had an optimistic demeanor and made the class very interesting and enjoyable. Dr. Hubbard teaches the material for this class with an enthusiastic manner, and in a way which captures the attention of students and enables them to understand concepts with clear examples. she's really helpful if someone needs help with the lectures. Dr. Hubbard portrays all of the course materials in an interesting and fun way. She explains everything really well and her examples are very helpful. I find what she teaches about the class is very memorable, and I would take all of the lessons from the class to try to integrate in my own life. She also provides useful help outside of class or before class time. The format of the class was well organized. Directions were straight forward and easy to understand. Her lectures are some of the best I have ever sat in. SO informative, clear, and organized. I never got bored, and she has a way of teaching that makes the students engage and have fun. good email communication She was extremely prompt when answering question through email. She made her class extremely fascinating. Dr. Hubbard is such a great instructor. This is my second semester of taking a course with her and I truly enjoyed it. Dr. Hubbard is so enthusiastic and passionate about her course material, it makes learning so much easier. She never seems lost and always has an enthusiastic attitude. the way the course was taught Everything she taught in class was very valuable Very smart and well-educated teacher. The most valuable and helpful thing about Amy Hubbard is that she really knew the material she was teaching. She was able to make the class fun and exciting. Makes the class very interesting!It is easy not to text in her class, lol. She did a good job at including people comments and inputs and stretching it to relate to the material and what was being discussed even if it wasnt really an example of what it was supposed to be.

I loved it all! I hope to take another class with her. Amy is perfect juthe way she teaches. The only thing that I have a probem with in this class is the tests are very hard. Nothing can be improved, she is a phenomenal teacher. n/a Nothing, she's the best and everything she does works well in class. She talks fast but I know it is probably because there is a lot of information she needs to share. The only thing I can think of is the speed at which Dr. Hubbard teaches. She introduces the material at a speed which I'm able to keep up with and comprehend, but when I'm writing my notes, it seems she's off to the next explanation. Possibly giving a pause after each explanation even if it's just 5 seconds. none I do not have any suggestions for improvement. I enjoyed her class very much. None I have no suggestions. Her teaching method is the best. None. I love her methods of teaching course material. none. I think the class is great as it is. The test are pretty long and extensive I dunno Make the class longer Too much group work. A large portion of our grade was based on group work/projects and we weren't given any class time to complete them, making it difficult to coordinate meetings outside of class. A lot of students work or are involved in sports so having to constantly meet outside of class was difficult Maybe include more videos that can help us learn the material better than simply reading from the materials and book. I loved loved loved loved loved this class! Amy is the best teacher I have had at UH. 100% the truth!!!!!!!!!!! Lectures and text books can be boring, but with Dr. Hubbard she presented course material through videos, mini projects, discussion and projects. Dr. Hubbard is the BEST instructor I've ever had. I would take any class she taught just because I know I'd learn and be engaged in the material because of how great of an instructor she is. Thanks for the fun and informative semester!!! Dr. Hubbard has been my favorite professor at UHM. Amy Hubbard's SP381 class is the best class I have taken in college thus far. She has a way of teaching that is very clear and organized, letting me understand the materials at ease. She makes sure we understand the content before moving on, and she is very funny. I never got bored in this class! Best class ever! No. very glad to have taken this course Dr. Hubbard is one of the best! She should teach all Speech classes! :) Give her a raise, she deserves it. Made course material interesting and easy to understand. Amy Hubbard explained the material very well and used examples that were relevant to the students. Her high energy and enthusiasm for the material made the class enjoyable and the material easier to understand. It was one of my most enjoyable classes because of the way she delivered the information. How excited she was about the material! Her excitement made is more exciting and interesting to learn! She had very vivid and practical examples that applied what we covered during the lectures. I really appreciated her dedication to each student and to the course. She seems to enjoy teaching us, which in turn, lets us enjoy the class. Everything! She was very thourough in her discussions. Dr. Hubbard's course activities and examples made new information easy to retain for her class. I appreciated Dr. Hubbard's well structured class because it made it easy to predict and retain information. Dr. Hubbard is very enthusiastic about course material. Her enthusiasm made class hours fly by. She is very friendly, and helpful as well as incredibly intelligent while still being easy to talk to. A great professor and it was an honor to take her course. I am hoping to take more courses from her. Her teaching style is very effective. I love how enthusiastic she is. her class is very fun. Also, she has no problem setting aside time to assist her students. She answered emails extremely promptly and she genuinely cares about the material and therefore cares about whether we understand it or not. I thought her enthusiasm and her up-to-date knowledge about nonverbal communication was great. It shows that she is interested in the material and continues to read about the subject. If a student asked a question about a certain area of nonverbal communication, Hubbard would most times be able to respond with recent studies' findings. The interaction with the iClicker was also helpful to see if we understood what was being taught in class. I found that Dr. Hubbard related all of her information to us, which made the class easier to learn. She is always prompt on replying to email, always able to help out and give great advice on our project and how it can be improved or corrected. She is always able to answer any questions. Even though she talks way faster than you can write the definition she always answers questions. She was very well organized with everything she does in class. There was a lot of chances for us to use the material we learned both inside and outside of class. Splitting us into groups to put into practice the nonverbal principles made it easier to remember and easier to understand. she made the class very fun by all the activities, made me want to go to class. She was always available when needed help. She explains everything clearly and is always willing to help us understand. She explained course content very well. Knows what she is talking about and was able to clear up any confusion we had She taught the course very well and created an interesting and stimulating environment for the class. The material that was covered was done so in a way to teach the material and apply it in a practical way. She was very professional and knowledgeable about subject matter. She was so Knowledgeable about the subject that she made it interesting! She was very knowledgeable about the subject and incorporated information in the lectures that was not in the textbook. She was very entertaining and kept class interesting. The way she explained things and her classroom activities She's really passionate about the subject and I feel comfortable talking to her about my interests. She also seems to take a genuine interest in her students (like learning all our names)! Also its awesome that she shares about current research being done in the field. Very helpful for students who are planning on going into research and who want to keep up with the latest studies! She is very entertaining during her lectures. I was able to enjoy attending class. Ability to teach in an enthusiastic way, that makes topics more interesting. her presentations of all the information, I loved comming to class Everything in Amy's class was so interesting! All of the different activities added to the class experience and they were all relavent. All of the different videos also made the class super fun. The project, although sometimes overbearing, turned out to be a great experience, just like Amy said.

None. I thought that the project helped me to understand the course content but I wish that it was not a semester long project. I felt as though over time I lost part of my interest in the project. Lessen the study guide or give a little bit more time to work on it. N/A Not to have the course in Shidler, the classroom doesn't do justice for the course. Some subject matter was still confusing. More common examples that students can relate to may help. It would help if Dr. Hubbard slowed down the pace of her speech, especially when she is explaining difficult examples. I like the way she teaches the course. I like everything the way it is. The final project is a bit nuts, but if you start working on it when she assigns it (beginning of the semester), instead of a couple weeks before it is due. Then, it is definitely possible to do great on it. N/A None, I enjoyed the way the course material was presented. I think her style is great. I enjoy the activities. i loved this class and think prof. hubbard is an amazing teacher! The only improvements i would suggest is for the quantity of material covered, the study guides should have been more in depth and easy to understand. The study guides were mainly themes and is good for understanding the material, but the quantity of material made it hard to study for. The tests are very hard, maybe more review before tests. None. a little more specific study guides Sometimes it was difficult to keep up with the assignments because it would be mentioned maybe only once during class. However, I did enjoy doing the exercises and taking all of the different inventories. The class is very applicable to everyday life, and I really enjoyed it. Have computer in class updated to accept a variety of video formats so that students can embed their videos into their powerpoint. Room is sociopetal. People don't want to move around to participate in activities. Maybe she could take everyone outside or something to encourage participation. exams are ridiculously difficult! Maybe next time in class we could form groups to study for the mid-term and final with. Everything was great! She was always super enthusiastic when she taught, and it made going to class exciting everyday.

none N/A Group efforts are never equalized among group members. Group assignments are stressful! Excellent professor, and course. Wish more professors were more like her. One of the reasons why I love school! Thanks Professor Hubbard! This is a challenging course that will be able to help me in whatever i do in the future. Just make sure the grades are a little more of a secret, such as giving friends the paper back with the grade instead of directly to the student. I think that Amy is a good teacher for a 400 level class. She makes the class fun with her examples and activities. Even though she asks for a lot, it's understandable that a senior class level to be doing all these assignments. But definitely the assignments and activities help with the learning. I really enjoyed taking her class. Great professor! Awesome awesome class! I'm definitely going to try and take another class from her! :) I'm pretty sure everyone got one grade level lower than what they are used to. A students became B, etc. However, the course was interesting and knowing that the bar was set high, caused me to work harder on the projects. Thank you for being such a great teacher!! I wish I could take one more class with you, Amy! I already took SP381 with you already though :-( Both classes were fun!

Shes really fun and uses GREAT examples in which it is easier for us to understand and keeps us interested in what shes teaching She was super enthusiastic and had a lot of fun activities to teach us different concepts. I really enjoyed this class. she was very very knowledgeable about all aspects of the course material discussed. i liked that she used a lot of examples from research studies and statistics to support various terms and concepts. Organized, interactive, friendly, professional in appearance and attitude, open, fun, informed, happy, and available. she explains everything well, and even more if you ask The iclickers provided examples of the subject matter. She made the class so interesting that I recommended it to my friends. Dr. Hubbard makes learning fun. Every class we had was fun and interesting. It also helps that she uses her own life experiences for examples. Professor Hubbard is extremely lively and focused. She is always willing to help out students in a caring matter. She is kind, smart and extremely well organized. Very friendly and easy to talk to. Felt like I was able to voice my opinions and concerns The professor is really understanding, and explains the material very thoroughly. Her willingness to be flexible and fair. In addition, she is very knowledgeable about her content. The interaction activities were useful to understanding the concepts. how enthusiastic she is about course material. she makes the class interesting and likable by using real life experiences and situations She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her field of work and that aided in the effectiveness of her lectures. I like that she has enthusiasm and passion for what she teaches. I think that is a rare trait to have. I like that she stops to explain again when you have a question. She was very enthusiastic about the course material and kept the class engaged in the lecture. She always had some humour in her lectures, which made them seem more interesting and relateable to me. fun I love the teachers enthusiasm. She explains information well, and if one does not understand the first time then she will explain it in a way that person can understand. very enthusiastic of her work and teaching. i recommend Dr. Hubbard to every student who gets a chance to take her classes. dont really have much to suggest but that some material is a little confusing and she move a little quickly with certain material NA either make the exams easier, or give lectures on what will actually be on the exam. i found the exams to be ridiculously difficult because a lot of things that were on the exam weren't really covered during class. she teaches well; good high energy The class could be held at an earlier time. Too much information all at once. I think students would gain more from the class if there were more than just 2 tests. There is alot of information for each test so it is very difficult to be prepared and do well on the tests. none It's a good class, I was surprised at how fun it was. Give more tests with less content. The two tests given cover too much material to remember and reproduce for the exam. No group essays! This semester, virtually the entire class did poorly on the midterm. In fact, no one earned an A, while mostly students received D's and F's, yet the midterm was not curved. It's discouraging that everyone earned bad marks. To us, it was difficult to understand why what was on the study guide did not necessarily depict what was on the test. It was nice she offered some extra credit to make up for this, although it was worth minimal points compared with the significant loss of points with the test. The instructor teaches by the book Her tests are very difficult and there is an overwhelming amount of specific term and definitions that need to be known in order to pass her tests. I feel that she could be more lenient in her grading, student presentations. She has an extensive amount of material in her study guide, perhaps she can shorten the length of the study guides and have more class activities instead. that way, she can ensure that we do learn the concepts, and still have material for her exam. There were sometimes where I felt confused about the projects. We never got to talk about them much in class, so I got lost with alot of the details and wasn't entirely sure if I had done it right. N/a good visuals Can you slow down just a little bit the class average on the mid-term was a D and there was no curve. The midterm and final require a lot of knowledge 88 question study reviews. have a more thorough exam review. Given the varying abilities and PRIORITIES of her students, there should be an alternative to the group projects (even though it is an "interpersonal communication" class). I really do not like the self realization style of learning, were the student tell the professor what they believe the theory is then the professor either confirms or denies the claim. I would rather just be told what the findings are and move on to the next topic.

The lecture notes were all posted on laulima, and she added more details and clearer explainations to the lecture notes during class lectures. She always responded to emails and questions very quickly (sometime within a few hours, or that same day) compared to other professors, which usually respond within 5 days. That was very helpful Dr. Hubbard was extremely nice and lively. She was very friendly and was so easy to talk to. She taught concepts but letting students experience it on their own. She always made class fun. She was very funny so it made class enjoyable. She explains and teaches great. She was VERY interesting during lectures and her powerpoints were very helpful Dr. Hubbard's enthusiasm and positive personality really showed through out the semester. She is very passionate about what she teaches and really cares for the students and their education. She was always willing to help students understand material in and out of class and I really appreciate her organization, the way she tried to make the material interesting by using many different forms of teaching and examples, and just her overall teaching. she is really fun and has fun activites to help better the understanding of the material. Material was presented in an entertaining way. The instructor was good at explaining concepts and responding to students' questions. She was really enthusiastic about the material and knew her stuff well. it was nice to have a teacher so into her class. Dr. Hubbard is always there for me when I needed help outside of class when I did not understand something. She helped to clear it up by explaining it to me again in a way that made sense to to me. Her involvement in the class material. Dr. Hubbard is very knowledgeable about NVC, this allows her explain different terms in various ways to help students understand the material better. She was well prepared, entertaining, very engaging with the students and also extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter The instructor explained important things clearly and repeatedly. She gave us a chance to make up for lost points from the midterm exam. Also, we had some opportunities to earn extra credits. She treats every student as if we are entering the real world. She prepares us to face the challenges and situations that we may have to encounter. She is always available, if you need the help or advice on what to do. This class was fun! Dr. Hubbard was intense (in a good way)! She kept us engaged the entire semester and I always looked forward to going to classes. Her passion for the subject really shines through. Dr. Hubbard was always upbeat and enthusiastic when she taught her lessons, this was most valuable about her because it allowed her students to be more interested in the material being taught. She also related a lot of the material to our daily lives and relationships we would normally have, and this helped us to remember the topics and concepts being covered. Also, if a student ever needed help or a repeat of a concept or explanation about something in class, they weren't hesistant to ask because Dr. Hubbard was always willing to go back to a topic already covered, in order to help the student have a clearer understanding. Most valuable thing about the instructor was the fact that she always came to class prepared, happy and enthusiastic, which made the material taught understandable and easily retainable. The most helpful thing about the instructor was her ability to provide feedback about a project due before the deadline. The instructor is very enthusiastic and entertaining. She demonstrates a very wide depth and breadth of the subject. So energetic and action-packed with knowledge! She has high expectations for us as students but I really wouldn't want it any other way. Her teaching style and expectations ask the student to step up and perform at a senior level instead of holding your hand along the way. A very rewarding class... She was very animated and interesting to listen to. Vey nice and easy to talk to. She is extremely knowledgable as well. Prof. Hubbard's happiness was so contagious! she was very helpful the instructor is a really good teacher and makes the class really fun to go to. She was nice. She really is passionate about what she teaches Amy is very enthusiastic about the class and she is very helpful because she demonstrates everything that she covers. The instructor is friendly. Her welcoming personality made her more relatible. It was easy to listen to her lecture in class because of her friendly and warm persona. The in-class exercises were very helpful in understanding different concepts. She is awesome Her knowledge of the subject matter was great, and she has a great attitude towards teaching it. Explanations were very good She was so enthralled with the subject but she made everybody become enthusiastic too. Dr. Hubbard's enthusiasm helped make the class entertaining while being easy to follow and covering a lot of content Dr. Hubbard is a very organized and informative instructor. It's not the first time I have had her class and I strongly believe that she knows what she is talking about and keeps class interesting. She is funny and gives great examples and effective notes to keep us stimulated and awake. She gives class activities that help us interact with each other and get to know one another but was valuable to help us learn the concepts and terms. The way she talks. She makes everything interesting and fun. She can answer any kind of questions students asked. I found that she was always prepared and never late for class. It really helped because it makes it easier for me to go to class. Also the fact that she is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject that she teaches definitely makes the class a whole lot easier to digest.

I think the exam questions should be more simplified to help us grasp the "bigger picture" rather than the details Absolutely nothing. This class was overall incredible. Dr. Hubbard, keep doing what you're doing! I really loved this class! :) Sometimes while she is explaining she does talk quickly. I would suggest slowing it down sometimes so we can take good notes. But this does not happen often. none. Nothing, she's good as is. The course is difficult but it's a 400-level course, which she stated in the beginning of the semester. she moves through the material a little quick. The due dates for the printouts were hard to keep track of at times. Verbal reminders were given, but if you weren't in class it was difficult to find out. Perhaps listing the due dates on laulima or putting them on the first slide of powerpoints would be helpful. the lecture slides were a bit broad and the professor spoke very fast without giving time to write down material. slowing it down would help a lot. also a lot of material to cover for undergrad class. also being more assertive to disruptive students would help the learning of others. None. There is a lot of material covered in the course, but the material for the midterm and final exams can be overwhelming. 106 questions for the midterm study guide is a bit much to try and master all the information before the exam date. Also for future group project, it might be more helpful to have smaller groups of students like 3-4 rather than 5-7. It was difficult to make group meetings time and be effective in creating videos and manuals when not all group members could make it due to other class and sports conflicts. Smaller groups would reduce the time conflict and may improve the overall effectiveness of the project. I am really grateful for your providing study guides 2 weeks before the exams, but it seems that there were too many questions. So, I would like her to split them. This course can have 2 midterms and 1 finals. Probably, those who could not form a study group had a hard time to answer the questions on the study guide. Nothing Overall the instructor did a great job in presenting the course materials and her teaching methods are helpful as well as memorable. I think the only thing the course needed was a slightly more elaborated or slightly slower pace. Being a four hundred level course, it's understandable that a lot of information is being covered, but I talked with many classmates and they all agreed that there was at times- information overloads. n/a Groups should be assigned either by major status (majors with majors, minors with minors, etc) or broken up equally (one major, one minor, etc). Maybe a little less study questions for the midterm and final. more in depth notes The lectures are delievered very quickly (the instructor speacks way to fast). Also, I felt that although the lectures were fun, most of the time I was still unsure of what I was supposed to be getting out of the lecture. A lot of times it seemed like just fun facts, I also did not feel that the lectures prepared me well for the exam. When reviewing my notes a lot of the times they either had only keys words or were blank, again because the instructurs speaks too fast. Be a little more specific about what is due and when it is due. (The worksheets that are printed from Laulima) Adding one more check up of the groups' project a little earlier on would be nice. This way, if groups were getting a wrong idea with the manual, we could catch it earlier. none the exams are really long and the study guides are almost impossible to finish. no suggestions Maybe, she could emphasize that we should be look more into things that she reviews in class. The way she teaches makes it seem like we only need to know the class material, and I forget about the book. Though powerpoints in class are organized well, certain points seem to be rushed over and not covered as well. - More I-clicker questions and more research-style exercises, using peer-reviewed journals. I don't see anyway possible to improve the course. Shes got it. Make the exams a little easier, or make the review sessions more comprehensive. I think the fact so many people failed the mid term, and so little aced it, means something... Maybe we all didn't try hard enough. None. Such a great class. A better explanation of, or easier grading of the exams would be helpful. Some of the exam questions were vague and did not specify exactly what kind of answer was expected n/a Nothing has to be changed perhaps Amy could give examples of how she wants the quality of work to be done. in relation to her projects, it was like shooting in the dark because what my group's perception of the task she gave us was so different from what she expected. so overall, just examples of work brought to class would be nice.
