His lectures are always interesting, Iʻve never been able to fall asleep in class no matter how tired I am. He makes everything easy to understand and relates things to every day life so that we are able to understand concepts that are usually difficult to understand.
Most Definitely. He makes the material really "pop" and stand out as something applicable instead of just an academic course needed to pass for a grade.
Yes, a thousand times yes, although his tests are difficult, it's easy to say that he makes the course fun and interesting for all students.
Yes because he is all around a really good teacher.

He knows his subject very well and when he needs, he knows how to explain in a different context. I love his analogies
Dewald not only had an amazing grasp of biopsychology he has an amazing grasp on how to make the subject matter understandable and accessible to students. And he's funny, always a major point of engagement.
â?¢An effective and fun communicator â?¢Strongly understands his course subject â?¢Extremely helpful and readily available â?¢Offers many resources and presents incredibly informative slides
Sense of humor
Great lectures and powerpoints with good examples that the student can relate to. Knows the material very well and is very passionate about the subject.
Mr.Dewald is extremely knowledgable in his field. He also provided many real life examples that made it easy to understand very confusing learning material.
interesting teacher. knew the subject well.
His very knowledgeable and his lecture is clear. Easy to understand. He break it down to a simple explanation even when we faced complicated terms.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Teach more classes!!!
â?¢I would suggest offering more extra credit opportunities for PSY230 â?¢Use of the gradebook option in laulima
Would like more emphasis on psychology. Neural networking of the eyes and ears are interesting, but I would have liked them to be linked more to psychology.
none
sometimes says important or useful info but not on the slides. should add those to the slides.
He makes few mistakes on exams which kinda distorted my concentration. He should carefully check before handing exams
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He made sure that students understood the material being covered. If not, he would explain in a different way. He was also always available outside of class
He was very access sable, always checked in with the students to make sure there weren't any pressing questions.
â?¢He was available 24/7, going as far as putting his personal phone number on the syllabus to contact in the case of an emergency. â?¢Has NEVER missed a class. â?¢ALWAYS asks if there are any questions before moving on. â?¢Prorates certain problems on exams based on the class average to ensure that people pass with at least an average percentile.
Always checked if the class understood what he was talking about. Asked for questions during the lecture and took the time to explain things that students did not understand. Met with students after class for further questions.
Mr.Dewald was open to questions, and when someone did ask something, his answers were very informative and detailed.
asked if anyone needed help. made himself available outside of class for help.
He suggest to talk to him before or after class. Easy to reach him.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. it is a very difficult subject and he does a great way of teaching it
Definitely, the class was fun and I learned a lot.
Yes. He is HANDS DOWN, the best professor in the UH Manoa system. He is incredibly smart and knowledgeable in the modern academic experience, giving his students opportunities to success through office hours, but mostly- his extremely entertaining personality. He told me himself, "I don't like presenting things that I would personally find boring, and so I try my best to make my teaching lessons fun and something that I would enjoy if I were the student".
Yes
yes! Andrew Dewald made the class interesting, even though the material was very hard.
Yes, he is a good professor to take because the course itself was very intense and difficult to learn and Mr.Dewald managed to make the material less intimidating.

19. Other comments:
He is hands-down the BEST instructor I've ever had in my college experience. He is incredibly precise and entertaining in his explanations and really does make the class fun and "real". Often times, I've had professors who seemed to copy and paste their lectures from the textbook alone and flood the class with all the textual knowledge- with absolutely no explanatory-substance. Dewald has proven class after class that he can teach the subject in a engaging way that is not only fun for the class, but interesting for himself as well. Another great thing is his awareness of class participation and understanding of the fact that his class is not our only class. He always asks if there are any questions after explaining a subject and has an incredibly flexible availability for office hours. His class curriculum is simple and solid- 4 major exams and 5 pop quizzes- that's it. This does not mean there is no homework, quite the contrary- this encourages students to study on their own as well, based on Dewald's substantial lecture slides (which are available for download as well).
Hard subject, very technical, but I enjoyed the class and learned a lot!

8. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Great teacher. I loved going to his class, he was funny and I learned alot from him.
He is a great professor and lectures are never boring, he has a good way of teaching & should keep it up!
He's a good teacher.
I am so glad that I joined Professor Dewald's Psychology 100 class. He was fun, entertaining, and definitely gave examples that allowed majority of the class to connect with. If any student is wondering who to take for Psy 100, I would recommend Professor Dewald indefinitely. Made my experience in a Psy 100 class enjoyable and I wish all the professors were like him.
He's awesome! He's hilarious and he knows his stuff. Everyone should take the opportunity to take a class with him!
A very enthusiastic professor who not only teaches with clarity, but also knows how to capture the attention of college students.
really tries to make his students understand, but did not always appreciate some of his inappropriate comments.
Great Professor! I would recommend anyone to take his course.
He is a great teacher, and values his teachings. He is very knowledgeable in his subject and speaks clearly, with precise dates and language. He finds many ways to keep his class the class interested and engaged, and he has taught me many new concepts over a variety of focuses, even those not including psychology.
He is a great professor. He knows what he is teaching to his students and makes the information very clear and understandable, and if we don't understand he will go back and explain to us again. He is a great professor to learn from because he makes you want to learn it because he makes the class really fun.
He is a good instructor; that is, he covers the material thoroughly and makes concepts as easily understandable.
He is a very good psychology professor.
Though I came into this course with an interest in psychology, I can safely say that Dr. Dewald made PSY 100 thoroughly thought provoking, engaging and entertaining beyond the course material itself. I would take another class taught by him.
Great professor! Very knowledgeable about psychology and very funny and makes class enjoyable. This was probably one of the classes I looked forward to going to everyday.
Awesome! kept me awake every single class
that the subject is a dry subject but he managed to make a lot of the material somewhat interesting.
His course was very interesting and great to take however the exams were confusing to understand. The explanation of the terms were simplified so much that when using the technical term on the test, it became confusing.
He is an awesome professor and I would gladly take another class from him again
He is one of the better professors at UH not only because he is funny, but he seems like he knows what he is talking about and always makes sure something is clarified well before we move on to new things.
Very good teacher. Has a vast knowledge about what he teaches. He makes psychology very interesting and exciting.
Good.
He is a great instructor, he related the material to himself along with other things well in a way that's best understood.
He definitely knows his subject well and I appreciate that he takes the time to answer all questions...even in a class with over 300 people. He is indeed an asset to UHM.
great teacher!
Dr. Dewald is an extremely effective teacher through his informal personality and memorable ways of teaching the material. Some teachers make the mistake of over-formalizing their classes, making the class boring and tedious, a terrible combination for a student striving to learn something. Moreover, Dewald does not simply recite objective facts; he provides contextual examples and personal anecdotes which allows the students to associate the material with the memorable lesson.
Andy is an awesome professor. He made the material easy to grasp and uses good examples to explains concepts. His lectures are clear, understandable, funny, and engaging. His style and personality made me want to come to class each day and I haven't missed a single lecture because I always look forward to what Andy has to say. By far my favorite class this semester and one of my favorite professors I've had at UHM!
He is a good teacher and makes subject content easy to understand by converting the information into a relatable form.
He made the class interesting and relatable and kept me engaged throughout the entire lecture.
Extremely satisfied not only did I enjoy the course I learned a lot.
Overall, I feel that Professor Dewald truly knows the course material and is passionate about it. I enjoyed learning from him because his personality is one that allows for both humor and respect from his subordinates.
Excellent he was straight to the point and put everything into perspective.
Great professor, wish the lectures and material weren't so technical, but overall he knows what he's talking about.
Dewald is a very good professor. He is always so outgoing and entertaining, so it is always a joy to go to his class and he bores you in his lectures. His lectures are easy to follow and he is very knowledgeable in this area of study. Highly recommend this professor!
He's an awesome professor. He is able to cover material quickly but thoroughly and always allows time to ask and answer questions during each lecture.
very good, i enjoyed going to class because he made it so that the content is really clear and understandable
He is a good teacher who knows the course material thoroughly.
That he is a great teacher and definitely knows his subject well. He not only gives you the information, but provides humor as well. I'd recommend him to anyone taking this class.
He is an excellent teacher. He puts things into words/examples that makes concepts easier to understand.
Knows a lot about this course but tends to go off topic when students ask questions that won't pertain to the exam. Teaches topics in a fun, interesting way that keeps students on their toes.
Dewald is a great lecture professor. He knows his stuff and able to answer almost all questions asked in class. Dewald makes you feel comfortable to come and ask for help with anything that you dont understand.
he knows what he is talking about and makes it fun to learn
He was a very interesting professor to have for psychology. He made the lessons very fun and his slideshows were very clear. Overall, I was very lucky to have him as my professor.
Good.
easy to listen to. He said things in a ways that were easy to understand and often used pop culture to further his examples.
Dewald is a very good teacher. he makes class fun and easy to follow along
A highly enthusiastic professor who demonstrates great knowledge of content and has lots of relevant demonstrations to keep students interested in the lectures. By far, one of the best teachers I've had this semester.
He is an awesome teacher
he knows his information well and tries to make class more interesting
Andy was exemplary - I never missed a class. He is the prime example of a professor who teaches to the best of their ability and keeps the students interested. He is aided by actually knowing what he's talking about, which is different from most - this is apparent when questions are raised in class and he is able to give detailed, lengthy answers on the new information brought to attention. In addition, a humorous approach to many of the subjects made going to lecture worthwhile. It is very encouraging to have a prof that is just as interested in learning and knowing the subject himself, as he is in teaching us about it.
Andrew Dewald is an interesting teacher who knows what he is doing and knows it. He is a relatively easy grader but make sure to read the textbook show up on time, and pay attention. note taking is optional but recommended. dont miss classes, Dewald doesn't actually know if you attend or not but the attendance quizzes on laulima are free points. Take extra credit opportunities they are offered.
great.
He knows how to explain the material while also mixing in pop culture to serve as examples
Does a good job of teaching via massive lecture halls. Unable to comment on one-on-one interaction due to not having any. Explains course material in multiple ways so people can understand. Relates material to real life situations making it easier to apply and understand.
Great teacher would take another class from him if I was majoring in psychology.
Great job.
great professor, was able to understand material easily from his teachings
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He made the class fun and explained the material very well.
He is a great professor who is very enthusiastic about teaching and always tries to make his lectures interesting. He uses understandable comparisons when teaching us hard topics and always tries his best to help us understand the course material better. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed his class and it helped me gain a better understanding of myself.
course full of information about probably a fraction of the field but he finds a way to make class interesting while adding humor and laughter throughout the semester. class is fun but it's no freebee by far. you do have to study so that you can apply what you are taught but that seems to be a given.
He is a great professor. He understands all of the information that he is presenting to us in class, and also provides background information to try to give a better understanding. I would recommend him to anybody that is interested in psychology. He relates the information to everyday life and it's easy to grasp.
... A positive one... The course was kind of hard, but as I was learning the material the PowerPoints made it easier to understand. The image choices to help us to better understand the material was funny and really did help.
He makes lectures interesting and makes sure to answer everyone's questions during class. He seems very approachable.
Andy makes the material interesting and talks about examples that can be related to life which helps you understand it more. He is also funny which is important because it makes the students want to come to every class and actually be excited to learn about it. He also schedules review sessions if you want to attend them and gives lots of extra credit.
He really know how to connect with the class and made it interesting so that we were constantly paying attention. I really liked how he would throw things in his powerpoint that we could relate to which made the content that much more understandable.

Professor Dewald's course should be MANDATORY for everyone because of how awesome he is at teaching. He covers a broad spectrum of topics and manages to nail them into our heads using incredibly creative oratory skills. He sets the bar for lecturers at Manoa, by finding relevancy and clarifying the topics on a level for anyone to understand. Highly skilled.

Dewalds teaching style was effective and always made me think. Lectures were straight forward and worth coming to class for.
He is a good professor.
He is one of my best teachers
he is professor who really cares about teaching his students. He wants his students to understand--and more importantly, apply--the material we learn in class, allowing us to ask questions (which he somehow always knows the answer to). The class is both entertaining and helpful. I highly recommend him to any student wanting to take this course.
that he is a great teacher with great knowledge of Psychology. He goes into depth into his teaching while making his class entertained and not bored to death. I would recommend Professor Dewald to upcoming students.
He was a good professor and verbally communicated the concepts fluidly and lucidly

He's pretty awesome. I plan on taking another one of his upperlevel classes!
Great job Professor Dewald!
The only thing that bothered me was his tendency to rush the second half of his lecture, flying through dense slides, leaving the majority of the class with unfinished notes.
I'm one of those guys that asks a lot of questions.
Keep being awesome! After taking you class, it made me confirm that I am changing my major to psychology. Very interesting topics and lots of information and challenging things for me to look forward to in the realm of psychology. Looking forward to seeing you again in your Psy 325 class!
Best psych class I will probably ever take
He's weird.
I really enjoyed Professor Dewald's humor. It made it really easy to pay attention in class and actually made a huge lecture class enjoyable.
Really enjoyed going to his class
He made psychology fun to learn. One of the classes I actually looked forward too. Unless it was a day of an exam :(
Also - dat brain. Dayum.
Was the best prof I had this semester.
I really liked this class.
if i continue is this field i hope other teachers can convey info in a similar manner like professor dewald.
This class can be easy and it can be hard. It all depends on how you approach the class. Take lots of notes and read your book as well. Do all of the homework and quiz assignments, and you will get through this class.
I would recommend this class and teacher to anyone in any major.

Thank you for a great semester.
Awesome class. Made me want to take more psych classes.
fun class
good class. I wish I could take more classes from him.

He should be a bit more careful with his words. Although I wasn't directly affected, some of his fast and at times brash comments in class could sometimes be hurtful to people.
I would recommend this course to everyone
I would highly recommend taking any course that Mr. Dewald teaches.
The extra credit points should be more than five because this point system is out of 445.
Keep doing what you're doing!
i laughed every lecture.
Very funny man
The professor was very entertaining and made the class very enjoyable. He gave a good impression of fully understanding the material being taught.
Thank you.
GREAT!
Flannels are comfy on a rainy day.
His humor is quite... humorous.

Andy was excellent at giving relevant examples regarding the concepts being learned in lecture. It made digesting all of the material so much easier, as well as memorable. He is enthusiastic, and always prepared to teach.
Best professor in the psychology department!!
Dr. Dewald is an awesome lecturer. I love all of the pop culture references and cheeky comments. His exams are challenging (sometimes too challenging and tricky at times...) but are fair (for the most part).
I would totally recommand this course to my friends, expecially the instructor. thanks :)
Andy is really an asset to the Psychology department, in my opinion. Most professors who are intelligent tend to make the lectures boring, but Andy is different. He explains concepts in a way that is easily relatable to the real world, and it sticks in your head. He's extremely knowledgable, and he is really friendly. I enjoyed taking a psychology course from him, and I hope to be able to take more classes with him. Thank you, for being one of the nicest, intelligent, and kind professors at UH.
I was tempted to email him about Dexter a few times. I love that show. But, this is my second time taking Dewald because meh introduces the material in a really interesting way. If he had another class I'd take that too.
I really enjoyed his teaching methods.
AMAZING CLASS!!!!
Excellent class Great lectures
I really enjoyed the class, and I thought he was a good professor. The only thing I didn't like was that he continually brought his political opinions up in class. There may have been a few times that it was for an example, but generally it was for a quick pun against the same party each time. The class is a Social Psychology class and politics are a part of society, so there are cases where I could see where an example would be appropriate. I could also tolerate a joke here or there or if he made them towards both parties. However, that wasn't the case. Especially in a large lecture hall, it's not as if students with differing views can voice them, even more so when it's just a sly remark. I'm all about tolerance, but that doesn't mean I should have to be subjugated to someone mocking my opinions nearly every week; even more so if that person is my professor. I pay tuition to learn more about a specific course, not learn what opinion my professor has on a subject unrelated to the course. If our places were reversed, I'm sure the feeling would be mutual.
Andy Dewald is very attracted to his computer. His computer does not induce the level of arousal that Killer does though.
good class... too bad its soo late in the day
good teacher, understands the material and spends time making sure students do too. Doesn't just read the slides word for word
Dewald is the man!
Loves his cat Killer
Didn't expect to learn as much as I did in a social psychology class. Andy knows how to make his lectures interesting, relatable, and full of useful information. Granted, some of the simple stuff had complicated names and mechanisms, but it was good to get info on the seemingly obvious things too. Good psychologist, best professor.
Pleasure to have as a teacher. Always enthusiastic and engaging. Made even the most boring materials entertaining as he connected with the students while teaching, by using jokes and personal pictures during the lectures, which helped make the material easier to understand for the students.
This class was the best class I have taken at UH thus far!
He was really enjoyable to listen to, I wish I could have more courses with him as he relayed information well, and made things clear that the book did not.
none
Awesome guy, shoots guns, drinks beer, and talks like a boss... Says "Awesome" way too much for a grown man... Love it
I enjoyed this class and the information I got from it.
This does not mean there is no homework, quite the contrary- this encourages students to study on their own as well, based on Dewald's substantial lecture slides (which are available for download as well). â?¢An effective and fun communicator â?¢Strongly understands his course subject â?¢Extremely helpful and readily available â?¢Offers many resources and presents incredibly informative slides â?¢An effective and fun communicator â?¢Strongly understands his course subject â?¢Extremely helpful and readily available â?¢Offers many resources and presents incredibly informative slides â?¢He is HANDS DOWN, the best professor in the UH Manoa system. He is incredibly smart and knowledgeable in the modern academic experience, giving his students opportunities to success through flexible office hours, but mostly- his extremely entertaining personality. He told me himself, "I don't like presenting things that I would personally find boring, and so I try my best to make my teaching lessons fun and something that I would enjoy if I were the student". â?¢He should be given an award for best college professor and academic scholar in both the UH and Psychology program.
Professor Dewald was a great professor! He probably was the best Psychology professor I've had at UH. He made Social Psychology very fun and interesting, capturing my undivided attention from the start of class to finish! I am glad I chose this class!
He never failed to make the class laugh multiple times every class. Very relatable person. Going to class was always enjoyable. I would take another class taught by him just because he would be teaching it.
I really enjoy coming to your classes, because your lectures are always well put together, humorous and educational, and has a lot of pictures of cats, haha. Thanks for such a great semester! Have a relaxing winter break! :)
I loved your class!
Thank you for the great semester! I really like your teaching and lecture styles and it inspires me to go further and deeper into my major of Psychology, while enjoying it as well (for you, seemingly).
I would recommend Professor Dewald to anyone wanting to take a psychology course! He makes learning fun, which makes things easier to remember :)
He connects well with students, and explains the context clearly!

public speaking and presentation of material
Very clear and knowledgeable
explained things well
Knowledge in the subject. Can relate lesson to students.
Very passionate about his job. Easy to understand.
He keeps arousing his students' interest in his class and he is very successful.
I thought Professor Dewald was very helpful and responded to questions promptly. He gave us a lot of materials to look at to better understand things.
I really liked how he made himself available for his students. I also found it amazing how fair he was when it came to tests. I had a problem with one of my tests and sent him an email, he responded quickly and gave me the points for the question I couldn't get answered while doing the test. Another fun thing was his youtube videos he would post with chapters, I found them to be helpful and usually really funny. A thing I LOVED was that the test's were not timed. It allowed me to work on them anywhere I was and I never got stressed out while I took them.
He knows his subject area, and always makes us think fro ourselves with class discussions.
Don't know him, but he sure does like for everyone to interact in the discussions which is great.
Seemed very understandable.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Nothing.
give us study guide for each exam
n/a

None.
None.
Nothing.
I don't have any changes, as far as an online teacher go, I really enjoyed having him.
Show our current grades more frequently, other than that he is a good professor.
At least one or two mandatory physical meetings either one on one or as a class.
Respond to emails faster.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always asks students if they have questions or concerns. Wants students to succeed.
Always asked if we had questions and always told us to ask for help if we needed it.
remind us the exam and paper due day
He'd encourage e-mailing, and gave contact information to be easily accessible
He is willing to answer all questions and will make time out of class for students
helped when students needed help
Always asked us how we are doing.
He is also a psychology doctor, and I feel I am really concerned as an individul. Of course meanwhile he is a professional teacher.
Yes he did.
He was very supportive in all of his announcements and always said "there is no right or wrong answer here" when it came to discussion posts.
he encouraged us to pay attention to our test and quizzes with our discussions.
He encourages everyone to talk with each other in the discussion postings.

Andy is a fabulous teacher who I respect very much. His class keeps us engaged and we never get bored. He is extremely helpful and is very flexible with meeting with students to go over grades and to go over material that you don't understand. He is by far the greatest teacher I've had at UH. Hands down.
He really knows the course material and he strives to provide an interesting experience so that students engage in learning.
He's hilarious, makes the subject matter [relatively] easy to understand...though psychobiology is not something that has a reputation as being "easily understood". His powerpoints are entertaining, his lectures are described as "learning on steroids"....and he's sooo easy to look at :)
Professor Dewald is very knowledgeable in the subject of psychology.
Very organized. Makes even the toughest of material very interesting. He puts a lot of work into his power points to make them fun to review. Corrects exams in a very timely fashion.
He is far-beyond knowledgable with the field of psychology and teaches students accordingly to his best ability. Very enthusiastic and entertaining with interesting lectures and materials within. He is acquired with powerful and effective presenting skills, and is well-structured and organized for his students to understand the material well. He was very good with grasping the attention of the students with his humor and knowledge. He encourages and challenges his students to learn and be overachieving although it was an introductory class level.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
More class time .
It would have made studying a lot easier if he had put the power points on Laulima, as skimming back over notes before quizzes and exams can be a little confusing-- he teaches SO fast so you really can't take super substantial notes unless you can write at the speed of light. Instead of putting power point slides up a few days before exams, I feel that putting each power point lecture up on Laulima right after the material is taught would be most beneficial to students. Other than that, I think he's one of the best professors I've ever had and will maintain a golden reputation in my book.
Tailor the exams to be more straight forward and not too difficult.
Slides and presentation style is great, but also could be added with some more interaction within the class or to the actual material itself. Maybe some experiment or activities might be helpful, too. Could require more participation among the students.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Available in his office for meetings and responded quickly to emails.
Mr. Dewald is always available. Emails never take long to be answered. He was always available before or after class.
Always available to help students.
He cares about the overall achievement and excel of the whole class and curves up the percentage of grade for the benefit of most students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I do. All the time. Why? Please see question 13
Yes. He believes in his students and although the course is quite difficult, he really pushes his students.
Yes yes yes yes yes. He's much younger than many other professors I have encountered, which makes him much more easy to relate to. He will use pop culture and media in many of his power points which makes the subject matter a little more easily understood and put in terms that the student can more effectively comprehend. I fell in love with him as a professor immediately and have been inspired to go into the field. on top of it all....he's cute! :p
definately
Yes, for he doesn't give away the grade but makes the students really work hard and know the material well. Not an easy grade to get, but motivating and challenging for students to excel.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I wish he was teaching another class next semester!
He is a great teacher. His youthful outlook on his teaching material really reaches all the students in any age group.
awesome.
I wish I could have him for every class.
It was really great having you as an instructor for PSY 100 & 230! You have made psychology actually interesting to learn that I decided to get into the major itself! Thank you for being an inspirational and an awesome teacher to learn from! Hope you to see you at upper-level classes at Manoa! :)

7. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
Andy uses lots of cats in his Powerpoints! :P But I will also remember that we can't pay attention to many things at once; therefore, we should not text message and drive, because that can kill people!
You should match conditions when you study and take a test.
perception and memory
ummm probably by the name Cognitive Psychology :/
The thing that i would remember most about this class is the professor himself. he was such a great guy and such a great communicator! i felt that he explained information in such a way that it can be conveyed easily. i would definitely recommend him to anyone debating to take a course from him. Also i cant forget his crazy funny examples! i loved this class!
Dewald's teaching style.
1.8 kilograms of cannabis will kill you
Learning about illusions.
His sense of humor and love of cats. He also had awesome examples that help you remember studies and other important information
Dr. Dewald. He was a really funny, cool professor.
how much I learned and how applicable the information is to my everyday life.
the funny things he compares course material to.
remembering cognitive mistakes to better enhance my decisions
The pictures of cats... amongst other things.
the prof was funny, great, knowledgable, and I enjoyed going to class.
Andy's ability to make a subject that I am somewhat uninterested in, very interesting and exciting :)
Dr. Dewald's wit, humor, stories, and examples.
How great of a professor he is and how HARD his exam are!
Dewalds charismatic teaching style.
Andy's awesome lectures. He throws in a variety of slides, pictures, and videos into his lectures to make them enjoyable to attend. I'll always remember that he likes cats and that he has a dying cactus in his office, and the "following eye" dragon. I'll also remember the optical illusions he posted on the slides.
the cool teacher Andrew Dewald
Having a hard time on the quizzes at the start of course/having Professor Dewald explain subject with much enthusiasm and knowledge.
- Retrieving it from my LTM to my STM :)
Dewald's funny and interesting input and jokes which made the course interesting.
-the teacher
all the life examples that he shared about the info. Every time I see one of the examples that he shared in class, I'll remember the topic to which it was related to.
Andy's enthusiasm and the interesting way he brought that into teaching the material.
His anecdotes. He taught us in a way to reinforce semantic learning so we won't forget the material.
Using it to apply to my everyday life. It will help me understand myself better and use it to understand why I do things the way I do or think.
Thinking that I had that really funny prof. from Philly.
All the notes I took in class haha
The interesting slides and funny examples
The professor and his ability to make the material enjoyable and interesting.
It made me want to change my major.
They way in which Andy taught the course. Kept it interesting and fun, and definitely NEVER boring!
Andrew himself. He is a very knowledgeable man and has a good sense of humor to keep people awake in class :)
remembering the effective strategies of studying.
The professor. Ever lecture class I laughed, and learned as well. Funny and intelligent person!
one of the most interesting professors I've had throughout college
thinking about how funny the professor was. i liked his sense of humor. made class time go by quicker
remembering how enjoyable this course was because there were times in class that dr. dewald made jokes or some type of funny remark that made the class funny at that time. also, his examples are easier to understand than all those scientific ones given in books and what not.
The way Dr. Dewald included humor into his lecture which enhanced the material, but also gave way to the monotony of power point. The material covered is very interesting to say the least and I would recommend it to others.
The fun lectures that professor Dewald had every day.
I don't know how much of the material I'll remember in 10 years, but I'll definitely remember Andy! He was funny as hell and always brightened my day. AND I learned about interesting stuff, haha. BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
The interesting way of teaching Andrew had
Interesting lectures, awesome pictures, killer the cat.
The things I learned that I can apply to my life such as memory and studying tactics that actually work.
Andy's funny sense of humor.
cats and how memory works.
I'll remember the funny, real world examples that Dr. Dewald gave for applied research
Professor Dewald's charismatic and humorous teaching style, which helped me to remember the material more. Mostly because he made me 'elaborate' and made it episodic.
the awesome mini-experiemnts we did that related to content we were talking about
The quality of the lectures. The professor made material relatively simple to grasp.
The ways in which I learned to enhance my memory and the interesting examples given in class.
The great teacher and teaching style. Lectures were always enjoyable and entertaining.
The teacher's brutal honesty and awesome sense of humor
The great jokes and teaching technique that was applied.
I think I would probably remember most about memory since we use it in our everyday lives and it is apart of learning
He's personality. I've never had a teacher who was so passionate about the subject. He also has a great sense of humor and makes his lectures enjoyable.
the section on memory
semantic memory. I'll remember the facts of the course, but not really remember the exact time I learned the information from this class, unless, I'm the person that remembers the exact day she learned about Canada.
His cat.
The professor and his great way of incorporating humor and interactivity to Psychology!

18. My overall evaluation of this course is...
AWESOME! This class is a little difficult, because you have to remember so much. I like that Andy gives 4 exams and that the final is non-cumulative, so that we don't have to remember everything at once. This class was always interesting and I was usually interested in the subject matter, because it pertains to real life.
It was life changing.
Lectures were interesting and instructor was very enthusiastic. However, exams were hard and a lot of questions were extremely specific and ambiguous. Since he tests this way, there should be a study guide.
the test questions are ambiguous....
YaY!
Great i think he is the best psychology professor that i ever had at manoa!
This course was very interesting. Although the exams were pretty tough, Dewald did his best in making them a tad bit easier for us. He is very enthusiastic professor and pretty chill.
Interesting course, taught by an interesting person. I gained a deeper understanding of and curiosity for cognitive psychology
Good course.
Awesome class. I would definitely take it again!
Although Dr. Dewald is an amazing instructor, I didn't enjoy this course. But that is a matter of personal opinion. Dr. Dewald is probably one of the best professors I have ever encountered. He made the boring material interesting and fun.
He is a great teacher! Lots of examples, very entertaining, which makes it much, MUCH easier to learn the material. He keeps students engaged in class, which allows us to learn more as well. I really enjoyed taking this class, and would love to take more classes that Dewald teaches if they are available. He is very prepared for his classes, and has a good testing method to make sure that students don't cheat (which makes me happy because I work hard for my grade!)
This course is excellent and i would recommend him as a teacher.
Average
Great! I learned a lot and enjoyed every class.
Great, Loved the material, very interesting, easy to learn which made it easy to enjoy.
Great class, Andy is the type of teacher I wish all the psychology classes offered!
Dr. Dewald is one of my more entertaining teachers. He never fails to make the class laugh at some point during the lecture, and he always finds the most interesting examples (whether they be videos, pictures, or stories) that would help the class relate to and understand the course content.
He is a great professor but his exams are very difficult. I am not a great tester so basing the course solely on exams was very difficult for me. I had a hard time with it and wished there were other methods aside from extra credit to help me get a better grade.
Good course.
Interesting, anyone interested in psychology or just learning how the brain works should take this course. Andy makes the topics interesting to learn and his lectures are always filled with cute pictures of cats, fun videos, and talks about Philadelphia.
Course material is interesting to learn but exams are challenging.
Great course
It was worth taking. Honestly, I was worried on what to expect about the subject of "Cognitive Psychology," but Andy made the class thoroughly enjoyable. There will be a number of things from this class that I will continue (at least try to) apply throughout my college career.
Great professor.. lots of material to learn.. but any course with Dewald is interesting and fun.
Awesome
very good. I came into this class not very interested in cognitive but slowly started loving it.
good course. However, I wish there were more opportunities for extra credit.
Andy is a fabulous teacher who I respect very much. His class keeps us engaged and we never get bored. He is extremely helpful and is very flexible with meeting with students to go over grades and to go over material that you don't understand. He is by far the greatest teacher I've had at UH. Hands down.
Excellent. You are one of the best quality teachers that really know what they are talking about. You give great examples and use humor and explanations to keep the students attention while still learning the material. You use exercises and problems to get the students to actively learn the material and apply it to real life situations.
Andy really makes this course. Anyone who is considering getting into the field of cognitive psychology, should take this class from Andy. He really makes an already interesting topic, even more interesting with his personality and teaching style. Andy explains things in class really well, giving us numerous examples to relate to and always throws in a few jokes every class. Professors like Andy, who try to incorporate a little fun into learning, really make it easy for me to want to actually go to class, take notes and learn. Taking this class has really broadened my interest in the field of cognitive psychology.
Dewald is interesting and entertaining in his teaching style for the class. He captures the attention of the students and provides great examples through his slides of the material being taught. I did feel that the exams were a bit tough and without having 100% knowledge of the concepts or terms you can expect to be only an average student in the class of many.
I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself at the same time.
This was a great class, and definitely a great teacher taught this course! Very interesting!

Excellent course
Great course and great teacher. Hope to take another class with this instructor.
Difficult material, but good course
two thumbs up
good course, interesting
I really enjoyed this course and would recommend it to anyone in psychology. The material is difficult, but worth the effort.
good. Tests were a little too hard, but I learned a lot.
Great course, great teacher. Helped me learn a lot about psychology overall.
This was the best course I've ever enrolled in! Fun, interesting, and it's definitely no cakewalk. I told all my friends to take Andy's classes!
A++++
great class. great teacher.
Good course with many interesting topics. I especially enjoyed the section on memory and learning which I found to be very applicable to real life. Some topics were not as interesting to me, but I am not a psychology major..
A+
Exciting!
Dr. Dewald's class should be the standard for how courses are run at UH Manoa. This is by far, one of the best classes I have taken at this university. He is sensitive to the difficulty of his exams and adjusts them accordingly. He is very open to feedback and encourages students to attend his office hours. His lectures are memorable and clearly cover ALL material that will appear on his exams.
It was kind of hard, but I enjoyed it. It was definitely my favorite class even though it was one of the classes I was doing the worst in. Professor Dewald talked a little too fast but, it is college.
great!
Probably the best class I've taken at UH.
Great class because Dr. Dewald is great at explaining the material in ways that is easy to understand. He also gives real life examples or experiences to put information into context.
The class was great. The teacher was great. Learning is always great with Dewald. Definitely a class/teacher I'd recommend.
Absolutely excellent - not a single complaint
Great class to take. You will learn a lot about the things you do on a daily basis. It deepens your knowledge about yourself.
I think that at times the material is difficult to understand but the examples he gives in class and studies makes it a little easier to put it in perspective and I learned how to study more effectively from this course so I will take away some skills that I had no prior knowledge of before
The lectures were always interesting. He doesn't have homework either so that's always a plus. But his exams are difficult. I would study the material and would feel confident, but his exams were always "wordy" which made it confusing. Besides the confusing exams, he's a good teacher.
excellent
it was fun and informative. Honestly, I was freaked out when I enrolled in this class because I had friends that struggled with the subject, but this class was really enjoyable. The lectures were fun and I learned A LOT.
He taught very well and made the course understandable.
Best class of the semester, heck maybe of my UH Manoa experience!

-I like concepts were reinforced with studies as well as real life situations but on the exams, some of the questions are too wordy and are sometimes confusing and sometimes the choices are too closely related to decide on picking just one.
Very great class and teacher. He doesn't respond to emails very well though.
Andy is one of the best professors I have had. He knows how to run make present the material in a fun way. I really enjoyed this class and would take any class Andy taught.
Give him a raise. He's the best teacher I've ever had at UH and this is my fifth year. So, seriously, he's the best teacher at UH.
I really enjoyed this class. Most psychology classes I have taken are just lectures to just jot notes down and read the book later, but cognitive psychology was interesting to learn because it was fun to learn at the same time and used in ways for me to understand the material a lot better. Andy is an excellent teacher who knows his material well.
Great prof. Is funny and also teaches in a way that allows the students to learn and get interested in the material.
Study guide's for the course would be helpful for preparing the students better for the exams. Reading the textbook and studying the lecture notes can get confusing sometimes because of the amount of information that is covered and expected to be retrieved for the exam.
Andy is an awesome teacher, and I am glad I chose him as my teacher! I would love to take another course with him!

Make sure to attend lectures in order to pass the class.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for such an enjoyable semester! Have a great winter break!
Interesting content within psy- much less dry than psybio.
Professor speaks clearly and is good at making the topic at hand not only easy to understand, but also fun without getting lost in his own jokes. Made a huge effort to be available to students outside of class despite a busy schedule. Generally has students best interests in mind and tries to make exams challenging but fair. Best lecturer at UH so far. Give him a raise.
Prof Dewald is without a doubt the most engaging and effective teacher I have seen in my 4 years at UH. He sees the material from a student's perspective and presents it in an amusing way that keeps all the students interested and laughing. He provides examples that we can easily relate to and even his tests resonate his sense of humor. I think every professor at UH has a lot to learn from Prof Dewald.
Definitely recommending this class to other students.
I think this professor could teach a class about watching objects collect dust and still make it interesting.
I would take this class just for the professor alone. He makes learning fun! I recommended him to my friends already!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He's engaging, he's realistic, he's a great well spring of knowledge and able to put complex concepts into understandable life similes.
One of his strengths as a teacher is his teaching style because he uses powerpoint slides to teach the class and I must say that the slides are really informative and interesting to learn about. He also gives us unannounced quizzes that caught students like me off guard but this is one of his strengths because its like a checkup to see if we know the material before taking the exam. Another strength is that he doesn't give homework but we still have to study for the exams. In his PSY 100 class we have to take 4 exams and also submit an essay about psychology.
Dr. Andy is a great orator! He delivers lectures effortlessly with a sprinkle of humor in the mix. Like his teaching style.
He knew his subject area very well and if he didn't know an answer, he would research for it and have it ready for us next class. He is very flexible and understanding.
Understanding the topic well and making it less boring.
Loud voice and know how to relay information. Funny, ads personal opinion on the subject making it more interesting
Very fun class. Makes you want to go to everyone.
He is well educated in what he is teaching, and he is also very personable and good at interacting with students.
His major strengths as a teacher are entertaining the students with the examples provided in the powerpoint slides he presents during class. Also sharing some of his experiences.
Mr. Dewald made assignments simple to do and understand. Tests were enjoyable to take.
He knows the roll of a "college student" and expects just that of his students through the format of his curriculum. This allows his students to grow up and accept the responsibility of an online course; encouraging growth.
Excellent Psych teacher! although this is an online class, Professor Dewald effectively gapped the learning curve by giving us real life situations for comparison and encouraged us to think outside of our own judgements or prejudices.
The course materials were well organized and released in a timely manner.
He's understanding of student's situations and works to make a comfortable learning environment.
He was very organized and the online structure was extremely easy to understand and access. He was also very knowledgeable in all areas we studied
Always available for any questions or concerns about the class.
His availability whenever I emailed him. Quick responses.
He makes learning psychology very fun and hilarious. His lectures are worth attending and I never wanted to miss it! Very clear and explains with such brevity.
He's so funny
Knew his material VERY well. Taught in a way that was easy to understand.
Knowledge on the subject.
He knew his material and added comedy to his lectures to make them more fun to listen to.
His class is very interesting and I did not get bored of it.
Andy is a fantastic teacher. He explains everything really well and makes it all sound so interesting. He is very organized and always well prepared. His power points are great, sometimes very funny. He knows what he knows (a lot!) and he's passionate about it . This really shows through his teaching. Did I mention that he's fantastic?
Personable. Makes lectures easy to understand and relates them to interesting topics. Fair to all students. Creates a great learning atmosphere.
Went out of his way to help students outside of class!

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He's always welcoming for questions and willing to work out a convenient time and place to be for students who need help, and will submit feedback to the big final essay. I have no question that he will do all he can to help the student.
After the end of a topic during lecture, he would ask us if we have any questions. He also post up our exam grades on Laulima and our grades are usually curved. He also posts up the slides on Laulima as a way to help us prepare for an exam and as a reference besides our book.
He offered his office hours and was very flexible, especially if you didnt understand something.
Always asked if anyone had questions + allowed them the chance to contact him somehow if they needed to talk to him about something.
none really
Call people after class.
He kept us informed of upcoming tests and assignments due dates.
He told students what is going to be on the test and what wasn't going to be on the test. If we were to email him, he would respond as soon as he can, which was helpful.
Mr. Dewald always posted up announcements well ahead of time for students to prepare for upcoming assignments
He always notified the students of changes to the curriculum and expressed his concerns.
Yes. Professor Dewald was always available if needed.
Professor Dewald posted comments during the course of our postings on the discussion board, showing us that he was taking the time to read our comments.
Andrew Dewald showed concern for students by always sending out emails and reminders to make sure that we all stayed on top of the work needed in the course. Very useful!
He frequently talks to us like he's one of the students but can be in teacher mode when the situation arises.
Helping them out
Always available to help when needed.
He is willig to help us outside the class.
Yes, he strongly encouraged all of us to come and talk with him about any questions we have about exams, papers, quizzes.
N/A
He was always available outside of class too.
Read rough drafts and meet us outside of class.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I found him to be refreshing and good mentor to begin the first plunge into psychology.

Yes, I recommend this class because he was an awesome teacher to listen to. I would always be laughing in that class. It is however alot of material to know, his test were not easy so studying is extremely necassary, but he give no homework so you really have no excuse to not study.
I would if they are good at studying by themselves.
I would definitely recommend Andy to everyone. He's probably the best teacher I've ever had.
I would recommend him to any one for any major. He relates this subject to a variety of every day things that this class can be applied to almost anything.
Yes! But not if they're offended easily, because he swears and talks about drugs and sex. I don't have a problem with it, I learned better because of it but this teacher is not for absolutely everyone.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
KCC should be honored to have him working with them.
It would be cool if you taught PSY 240.
Cooler than a polar bears' toe nails...tried to engage students by answering any questions on the complicated science that is psychology.
Thanks for a great semester
Thanks for getting up early in the morning to teach us.
you are one of the coolest psy teachers
Your class is the best!
He should just continue teaching the way he has been doing so.
We need more professors like Dewald
Keep teaching young and old (myself) how to think outside of our own perceptions and how to culitivate an awesome life.
I really enjoyed this class, I never really knew anything about psychology but i loved it and would really enjoy taking another psychology class in the future.
Man, your lectures are funny and most interesting. More professors should be like you, teaching-wise then I might actually like going to school. I learned a lot about the human condition and about myself. Good stuff...

19. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Very good!
His PSY 100 class is my favorite class this semester and I learned a lot about a subject I don't know about. I thank him for an exciting and memorable semester. I plan on taking PSY 240 to further my studies and knowledge about psychology.
Good job!
What an awesome class and teacher
He is a very good teacher overall. You have to kind of study hard to pass his class.
100% Best teacher i've had so far
That he is a good teacher and I would recommend him to anyone who was wanting to take his class.
That I enjoyed being in his class, and understood what I was learning more than I did in my other psychology class I have taken previously.
Mr. Dewald is a great professor and makes learning psychology real simple and easy
EXCELLENCE!
Fantastic..
He deserves a gold star
Really great teacher that cares about his students
Great to have him here in KCC. He should teach more classes in KCC than UH Manoa! Just joking but still one of the greatest professors I ever had!
GREAT teacher
Very good teacher, made the class intersting.
He is a nice and fun person. he gave us great informations and examples in the class.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
His slideshows are good.
He definitely knows the subject of Psychology very well. His knowledge and what he goes over in class are quite interesting and makes the class entertaining and not too boring. I normally don't like lectures throughout the whole class time but there is a lot information he goes over in the powerpoint that the book doe not explain very well and I get to learn a lot. I don't even like Psychology but he went over a lot unique stuff and FACTS which I learned a lot.
He explains the material well and in an entertaining way that keeps the students engaged; I look forward to his class every week.
Very smart and straight forward.
Andrew's strengths are being a profound lecturer, and he can also explain very simply and conscisely to students about course content.
The amount of knowledge that he knows is very impressive. Probably the most I've learned in any class i took. Very clear on what was important to learn and what was "garbage." Took us further than the book and attacked real life ideas and events, while thoroughly explaining the topic under study. Vocabulary is awesome. Public Speaking is great, loud and clear.
Knowledge of subject area, clear and concise speaker. Lectures were awesome, it was fluid like.
really made learning interesting and fun and exciting. You never really got bored in his class because he keeps it alive and on your toes. Even though some stuff were hard to learn he really made sure we got it down and learned it well
Knows the topic and keeps class interesting. Explains everything very clearly.
-really funny guy -the examples he used in his teaching was excelent (not from the textbook kine) and made learning Psychology easier.
Knows his subject very well, has good sense of humor, and makes complex stuff into something simple.
He is NOT intimidating and makes class fun.
very knowledgeable of the subject
organization. he had a set routine of teaching through power points. if students didn't attend class, they could easily find out what they missed.
He was clear with his voice during teaching, and he thouroughly explained the course material. He was also good at informing us of our grade performance promptly. He made the learning materials more interesting to learn.
He is awesome, always available and knows Psy very well..Lots of knowledge
he knew his subject area very well, and is easy to talk to
Incorporates fun and insight to his lessons.
Very knowledgable about the subject(s) and he made his points very clear during lectures.
He knows the curriculum very well. very good at presenting and giving lectures
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none.
I think he should show concern for students who are not doing so well in class such as students who did very poor on the exams and failing. His exams are ridiculously hard by the way because it's all applied knowledge on real life examples. He should offer them some extra credit for them to pass.
I enjoyed your lecture and class, but found that it was distracting when certain students were permitted to ramble when asking numerous questions. I also found it distracting when certain students were permitted to walk in and out of the class without any concern for distracting other students. I feel that the classroom, during a lecture, should have the least traffic, especially in the middle of class/lecture, which is fair for all.
None.
nothing
I would suggest decreasing the difficulty of questions on exams.
none
n/a
I don't know, its just my personal opinion but cussing aka swearing should not be brought into the teaching environment. College or not he should set a better example.
-too much lectureing maybe include some group work or something hands on.
Maybe include a possible list of subjects students should study for exam or examples they could work on [Laulima].
make the exams not so hard
n/a
assign more homework and projects in the future. not everyone is good at test taking. i myself exceed at projects and would like an equal opportunity at excelling this class.
Include more class discussions, and he should ask students more questions about the subject material being covered in class.
None, no complaints whatsoever.
No changes at all, Andy's class was very interesting! I looked forward to the lectures, cuz I learned something new everyday.
Maybe to give more reminders on the final paper, and more instructions for it. Also just to get more experience teaching
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
I can't say he did not show any concern. All he did was just lectured but he was very open to students' questions whether it is a dumb question or a logically thought out one, he would answer them straightforward.
He regularly sends out updates via email, posts the lecture notes on Laulima, and reminds us when he will be available to discuss tests, notes, essays--anything we are having difficulty understanding. He is also very personable.
Andrews constantly reminds students of his office hours and when he is available on that campus to help.
Always reminded class of upcoming due dates and reviewed information covered in previous class as well as foreshadowing what will be discussed in our next meeting.
He didn't really, you either got it or you didn't, but he made it so that you could get it easily.
He always made his self available and allowed us to contact him freely if we had any questions, comments and or concerns about anything he was teaching in the class. He also made himself available to give some extra help to those who needed it and would take time to sit one on one to talk about anything we may have needed help on.
He made sure everyone was on top of everything and made sure we started studying on time.
-answered emails really quickly -always available to help with any question even if it isn't directly related to the topic of discussion
He briefly talks about if the class did alright or not. But he does inform the class if they would like to see their exam after class.
he makes himself available to student (not sure if a lot of people utilize that, I have not). He always reminds everyone to Call, email, text, snail mail, smoke signal...etc...him :-)
answered our questions through group discussions...
He would ask questions from time to time on whether we had questions before starting class. But he always let us know that if we wanted help with anything or review with him any questions, he recommended us to his office.
eh would always make himself available for the students to talk to.
Not over concerned or under concerned with student's attendance and productivity in class. Didn't baby students but didn't disregard them either.
He'd let everyone know what his office hours were, and if we had questions, we didn't hesitate to ask.
Made himself very available, and would answer all questions. developed relations with students and always tried talking to them
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
He is a great instructor. You can learn a lot from him. I would recommend this instructor.
Yes.
YES. He is the best professor I have ever had, and I have already recommended him to several people I know.
Yes, he is great.
Yes, Andrew is a fun to listen to, easily approachable and is a practitioner of an aspect of the course he is teaching.
yes, he will teach you more than you would have learned from reading the text book. A lot of extra, but valid and important information.
Yes, he gave great insight on the subject matter
i definately would recommend this teacher to any student, hes a really cool laid back kind of guy and really seeks to help those pass his course with a good grade.
Yes, super funny and knows what hes doing.
-i would recommend him only to students who are ok with studying a lot. -also to students who are able to come to class daily because the tests are all based on what he says in class.
Yes I would recommend Andy if the student is prepared to take the time to learn.
Yes, especially if he is your first class of the day @ 0745 am. You need a good teacher like him to start your day.
only if you're good at test taking and attend class regularly.
Yes, he is a teacher with a good personnality, and a good way of explaining the course material.
Yes. I cant even count how many times he has made me crack up in that class.
HELL YEAH!!! He was such a GREAT PROFESSOR! Very knowlegeable, enthusiastic and was very clear about his lectures.
yes
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is definitely a mainland guy. He talks a lot about his hometown of Philadelphia which because of him, I want to go visit there someday.
Thanks for an enjoyable semester.
I would like to thank him for an enjoyable semester. He is very funny and inspirational. I hope to major in psychology; for the first time (in a LONG time), I feel like my life has direction.
Keep up the great work.
Andrew's tests are extremely intense in the sense that his questions require very specific knowlege of details to answer.
Smart guy so he keeps you thinking
Great lectures!
you, out of all teachers, really challenged my faith. I use to be very closed minded about a lot of things but by taking your class it really has allowed me to see a lot of things in a different perspective as well as a different light. If anything you have only helped and allowed my faith to grow in many ways possible. You've allowed me to open my mind to understand why certain people are the way they are and why others see things in a different light. I take time to understand someone else point of view before so quickly stating my own. For the most part, i take time to understand someone first before shoving what i believe in and how i see things in there face. It was hard to swallow some of the things you presented in class, but i guess everyone has there view of things and how things work and what people think. I still hold strongly to what i believe in, not because i was taught to, but because i really do believe in what i believe in, and that's God. You say your a skeptic, that means anything could be possible for you, could God be one of them?I'm sure at one point you believed, i mean you even said so yourself, your dads a minister. Maybe you'll find your way back to God some day, i pray you do, i see so much potential you have in being used to glorify Him and be used for His great works. You can shake your head and think "what a complete idiot" but that is fine:) I've had many people, even skeptics who have done that to me. You have a choice, everyone does, to accept Christ as there personal Lord and savior or deny Him and pay for there sin on there own. He has already paid for it, He's just waiting for you to accept the gift of His grace and mercy. I hope he reveals Himself t you one day through something or someone.
He's a cool guy. Probably one of the chillest teachers I've ever met.
No doubt he knows about Psychology very well, but some of his lectures I totaly disagree on. Not sure if it is him or the course itself.

5. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
the examples of the material being taught
The lectures were the best! I went home everyday with something new to talk about always starting off with "Today, in psychology class I learned..."
Andy's lectures were extremely helpful because he succeeded to explain in great detail each key element of psychology. He also made sure that everyone understood the material before moving on by providing many examples.
I liked the videos shown in class and the examples that he used. They helped explain the subject matter in a way that the book alone could not. Also having the power points online was really helpful. That way if you missed something in class, you could always check online.
Looking at people's background as to why they are the way they are.
I enjoyed that this class actually took into consideration a lot of things that other psychologists don't. It proved that most psychologists don't actually consider biological factors, when a lot of time it matters a lot.
He made his lectures very fun and students can relate to what he says. Very very very clear.

Can relate material to real life examples
The most valuable aspects of this course for me was learning about our brain and how we work.

Learning about how us humans think and why we act the way we do.
I loved his passion for teaching. He knew the material well and executed his power point effectively. He is very open minded and fair.
He taught information that I could actually use in the real world.
The way he explained something, he made it relatable to us and showed good examples.

Dr. Dewald is great at making references that are relevant to us, which is great for learning the terms and concepts and the power points help a great deal.
I liked it all.
Everything.
Just that he made all the information even the uncomfortable aspects of the material fun, easy to understand, easy to retain the information.
The aspects that related to my everyday life and information that I could tell other people that would interest them.
Human development and integration in Psychology.
everything
i feel that the content was the most valuable. prof dewald does a great job in helping us understand the material rather than just lecture about it and expect us to understand what he's saying. prof dewald himself was a great prof this semester.
Learning about peoples personalities and behaviors.
I really enjoyed the class discussions about the different sleep patterns.
Every class was really valuable, I never wanted to miss any of them. The times I wasn't able to make it to class, I felt like I missed out on valuable teaching. Having the powerpoints from class really helped too! I was able to print it out and take notes right on the powerpoint. That helped keep me a little more organized.
All of the examples and ideas presented in class

6. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
the stuff we did not really need to know
The textbook. I never opened it once.
I found that the book was the least valuable only because Andy explained everything that we needed to know. Even though the book was helpful, the lecture, I felt, was more important.
Everything felt valuable.

Exams were tough. A lot of material was needed to be memorized. Everything learned crammed into 3 exams
The drugs section....just because I have learned about it ever since middle school.
There was barely any homework which was rough on my grade because the class is mainly based on exams and if I did bad on it then my grade was kind of stuck, but he did give a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Everything was very valuable in terms of psychology.
book reading
The tests and attendance quizzes.
Tests are kind of harse
The long powerpoints were too much information to obtain in my brain.

There was no homework. It could have helped us to understand the material better if certain homework was given? and It could have helped some students with their grade... partially.

Greatest psychology class I ever took.
Overall a great course. I would advise my friends to take this course from him.
I recommend anyone, Psychology major or not, to take his class.
Wish he was giving lectures in all my classes.
I would defiantly recommend this class to someone.
I would take another one of his classes!
I liked going to class, it's wonderful that he posts the lecture slides online. But the tests were killer and the attendance quizzes did nothing for me. In fact, they should be abolished.
He makes everyone wants to major in psychology. In fact, my friend switched their major after taking his class. I would love to take his class next semester if it fits in with my major.
great overall
man this guy was a kick ass prof. he explains the material well and kept me interested throughout the entire semester. he didn't make the class boring like other lecture classes. by incorporating his interests/styles into his lectures he makes the course fun.
great class, i would definitely recommend this class to others!
Even though this class was really challenging, I really enjoyed it! I learned a lot and covered some interesting topics. This class was worth working hard in.
He's awesome and everyone should take his class
Made bland material easy and enjoyable!
Thanks for being a GREAT TEACHER :D
Great professor made the information exciting and kept things interesting.
great class

16. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
His examples of teaching makes it easier to learn the topic. He also gives hints of major areas that would be focused on the test.
Almost all aspects in this course were my favorite but one of the best aspect I favor the most is how Andrew relates every chapter being taught to how we go through life as of now! He uses VERY good examples and presents them in a humorous way that makes the whole class laugh and be a part of the discussion!
Psychology is a fun subject to start with; not only because you learn about elements that surround you, but you also gain a little better knowledge about yourself and how you work.
Lectures were interesting and easy to follow.
his style of presentation, getting the students involved in the conversation, (even though it was a big lecture class), and his enthusiasm for this field of study.
-His teaching style is interesting, not always so serious like how most professors are.
All of it! I loved this class and would take it again and again!
His attitude and enthusiasm for the subject
All the topics we went over were interesting. I enjoyed the class.
Lectures!
The lectures were very easy to understand and taught a lot.
I enjoyed the whole course. I learned a lot about why we do things that we do...and why some (weird) people are the way they are.
The professor really knew what he was talking about and not only that, but he could convey the information to his students in a way that made them pay attention even at 8:30 in the morning when most college students would rather be sleeping.
He made the lectures fun.
The information was interesting, and the professor was a fun, delightful guy, who knew his material and taught it effectively.
everything, from getting a better understanding of how the human mind works to how different brain functions effect us in our everyday life
visual aids helped me a a lot. I enjoyed his sense of humor and how he presented some of the material he covered this semester. He's very organized.
He kept the class intrigued and very professionally was able to convey his knowledge of his study.
The teacher's attitude and the manner in which he taught the material. Also, I enjoyed the stuff on developmental psychology the most since i am considering being a kindergarden teacher.
all of it
i liked that the presentation of lectures were very interesting.
Lectures in this class are always interesting and engaging. The professor uses examples that students can easily grasp and relate to. It is a very comical experience being in this class but hey Iâ??m not complaining! Thatâ??s what I always look forward to whenever I enter this class!
Even though I didn't attend every single class, I liked how Professor Dewald would take a fact in the powerpoint and turn it into something funny. Like about suicides and whites. The information was easy to understand but if the information isn't studied, then cramming for exams would be hard.
Andy was an awesome professor and he made going to class at 8:30 in the morning easy! He's one of my favorite professors because he actually made the material and lecture really interesting!
his class is really fun.
I liked how he presented the topics. They were easy to follow along because it was in power point!
I liked how comfortable i felt in the class. I felt like the prof. understood me and I liked the quizzes we got in class.
I liked his style of teaching and interaction with the students.
The teacher was awesome, very funny and made the material interesting.
I learned so much, it was all so very interesting and the professor made the class fun to be in.
the class was really enjoyable and interesting with the professor. he makes the class fun with his sense of humor, and he does a good job explaining the material. if i had any questions, it was easy to ask and get additional help from the professor.
I enjoyed his teaching style.
There were many interesting topic about psychology and the teacher did really well in feeding this interesting with background knowledge.
This class was really interesting. Material was presented in a way that was exciting and made going to class worth while.
Power points were available and instructor included stories that were relevant to the topic making it seem more interesting. Friday videos were fun to watch.
He is so funny! And he makes class so enjoyable! I love how he uses pictures in the powerpoints that we can relate to. His powerpoints are the best!
focus on relevant topics subject to the course while maintaining a covering the material through effective communication with the students by presenting modern examples
I enjoyed the humor in the lectures as it was more interesting and kept my attention and the extra credit opportunities because i didn't just benefit from it but also found it to be quite interesting.
i liked the lectures because they are fun and interesting.
The lectures were done really well. It was made to be easy to understand and it was. I feel that I learned a lot in this class.
he was energetic and made the material interesting by making the class enjoyable
Loved the fact that we were told exactly what was expected of us without any surprises. Exams were very fair, gave us lots of opportunities for extra credit.
All of the information was interesting to me!
His energy when teaching us, he is very engaging
I love the teacher. He was very funny and one could tell that he loves teaching or is interested in Psychology. I also loved the way he presented, it made me want to come to class at 8.30 three times a week.
he integrated humor into his lectures, which made it easier to follow and understand.
The aspects liked was the instructor's teaching style. I was able to learn a lot more than I would've because of the way he had taught the subjects, which helped me when studying and recalling the subject learned. He applied a lot of the material to real life so I was able to retain the material learned.
Psychology is a very broad topic to cover and Andrew Dewald was able to teach the course in a very engaging way. He is very enthusiastic and used examples that everyone can relate to which made it easier to understand information. The lectures are very clear and what ever is covered in class is on the exams. Andrew is a very fair and straightfoward instructor.
Easy to understand lectures
17. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
There are alot of notes to take down when he is lecturing and doesn't give enough time to write it all down.
None
It was the only PSY100 class that was taught in a lecture rather than online.
It was early in the morning.
N/A
-Having to be sure to be in class everyday so I won't miss a pop quiz to earn points
It was early.
His test. i did poorly
none
Surprise pop quizzes, but I get why they're there.
In class I couldn't get all the notes down because he went to fast sometimes but it turned out okay because he sent the powerpoints out.
Sometimes the microphone in the classroom wouldn't work.
nothing
Nothing. No complaints.
none
learning too much terms.
I did not like learning about the where the diffrent parts of the brain are located or what they do. That was boring to me.
nothing great
n/a
The only thing I am not too fond of about this class is the early class time. However, that does not stop me from attending class willingly. I could never want to miss this class because it would mean that I miss on a very fun lecture!
The location of the class threw me off because it's really far from the freshman dorms. But other than that, everything was good.
I just didn't like how the class was so far away!
ahh, sometimes he went too fast but it was okay
The exams.
The pop quizzes weren't very fun.
The tests. I have a hard time with tests. The tests were hard for my style.
Tests were extremely hard, didn't cover the material very well.
i did not have any problems with the class or the professor.
I wish we could have had more tests to spread out the course material into smalller chunks since this course involves a lot of memorizing.
There is nothing that I like the least.
Wished the instructor would post up the slides up earlier to jot down more notes. Instructor should slow down when explaining topics.
Nothing
Only thing i didn't like was that the final exam wasn't during exam week...it was sooner.
i did not like the random attendance quizzes.
The pop quizzes. I wasn't that I didn't like it, but it was annoying thinking, "Did he give the quiz today?" "Did I miss it?" Then again, I suppose that was the point.
n/a
The practice exam only covered two chapters while the midterm and the final covered around 4-5. I'd rather have it more evenly distributed.
N/A
There were only 3 exams...maybe if you made like 4 or something. And using pop quizes isnt efficient because most of the students fail.
There is non. I liked everything.
nothing, it was fine, tests were extremely trick though.
The only aspect I could probably think of that I liked least is probably the time the class was held and the fact that this was the only course being taught that wasn't unit mastery. Other than that, there wasn't any aspect I didn't like.
Surprise quizzes
18. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I am very satisfied with this course.
This is one of the classes that I enjoy attending because there is always something new to look forward to everyday. I would recommend every student to register for this class especially if Andrew is teaching it to the fact that I never find myself falling asleep, which I tend to do in my other classes! Quizzes are taken before the lecture starts AND if you're late to class, you're still able to take it after class which is one my favorite part of this class. There is no other class that I've taken that does this and some student find it very difficult to pass a certain class because most instructors are TOO strict with their materials. Overall, I love this class and would recommend this class as a requirement for all majors. Five Stars!!!
The information is useful for any person no matter what major you plan on going into, and if you are interested in majoring or deepening your knowledge in Psychology or that area, this course will get your toes wet.
great, I would recommend this class to any upcoming UH students or anyone who wants to learn more in the field of psychology.
-interesting class, I thought psychology was only on how the mind works but it is much more than that.
This class and teacher were so much fun. It was an early class but the attitude of the teacher is the reason I got up in the morning to go to class.
Great professor..
excellent.
One word...AWESOME!!!
~*~EXCELLENT~*~
Excellent class and teacher I would definetly take it again.
This was a very interesting class, and I got alot out of the information that was given, and I can relate this information to real life situations!
It is a great course.
A fun, enlightening course, which offers interesting material. I gained some valuable information, and had fun doing it. Strongly recommended.
my favorite class so far. dewald's teaching style suits me perfectly, and i have been able to learn a lot about my favorite subject.
great!
Possibly one of most effective courses I have taken. I feel I have acquired the expected knowledge of this subject, while enjoying the the lectures. This professor is in my opinion the best I have come across so far. He taught the subject while making it interesting, was able to help out any student who need it, and he provided critical thinking that we could apply outside of class.
I really ejoyed this class. The instructor made it fun to be in lectures and I thought that it was interesting.
excellent
great
This course is easily my favourite this semester. It is one of those classes you donâ??t want to miss; thatâ??s how dedicated and enthusiastic I am about this class! The professor makes everything really fun and entertaining with his little side notes about things being discuss in this class. I highly recommend this class! It is a great learning experience and it makes me want to major in Psychology.
This Psychology class beats the Unit Mastery class. I believe that this class was fair in everything. Powerpoint slideshows were all put up on Laulima and that made everything convenient. Although I didn't attend class everyday, the times that I did attend, I learned something new. Professor Dewald doesn't make a person feel uncomfortable and he's really open about anything. In order to get the best of this course, attendance everyday is necessary! Overall, I liked this class.
I would recommend taking psychology with Andy! I loved this class!
Excellent! I would take this professor again!
I liked it. I enjoyed learing and wouldn't mind taking another class from prof. Dewald.
It was a very interesting course, and I recommend it all the time.
This course was good, the teacher made it fun to learn and not boring.
Even though I'm probably getting a bad grade, I learn so much in this class, I would take it again anyway.
i learned a great deal from this course. the professor was really helpful, and made the class worth taking. i would be willing to take other courses in psychology or other courses from this professor.
This is a good class. I would recommend it to other students.
The class was great. The teacher showed his enthusiasms about the work and he really made everything interesting. I would really recommend it to everyone.
This class overall was really good. I would recommend this class to others because the material and prof. were very interesting.
professor was funny and made lectures interesting. glad i took it from him.
good because the topics were interesting and I was able to learn a lot in a short period of time.
It was the best class I took so far. 5/5
This course was a lot of fun. I learned a lot from this course and looked forward to learning the content. Professor Dewald is a great instructor because he teaches the material in a way that makes you want to listen and keeps you interested. I am glad i took this course with this professor.
good course if taught by this instructor.
Great!!!
Really worth taking.Fun and the teacher was really confident and funny
Very intriguing and really great course AND teacher :)
Great! i recommended it because he is funny and has a great way to get across to his students!
Good.
Everyone who has to take Psychology should take it with Mr. Dewald. He is very open and a fun teacher. I learned a lot because he taught in an interesting way.
good course, interesting, good lecturer.
that the course was great because of how the instructor had taught as well as his teaching style. He should teach more courses/other classes. So much was learned and it furthered my interest in psychology; I already took a liking to it in high school (again due to the teacher and teaching style), but this course confirmed that my liking to psychology didn't end with a semester in high school.
Very interesting course that discusses about human behavior. Andrew made learning about psychology more interesting.
Very good class and the professor did a very good job introducing me to the subject.

7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Encouragement to be skeptical and think critically about paranormal claims
I think the most important part of the course was the beginning lectures where we learned how to think critically and how to apply these methods to real life.
Learning about belief systems and why people believe what they do, and how to be a skeptic.
learning to be more skeptical and be more questionable about paranormal things presented to me.
I really liked how he made himself so avaliable if we needed any help. His lectures were interesting and it helped watching clips to visualize what he went over. I liked how he was so enthusiatic about what he was talking about and told many stories. He is an asset as a professor and I encourage everyone to take his class. He talks about sensitive issues but made it easy for me to listen even if i don't always agree.
The lecture ppt presentations were the most enjoyable part of this class. They clearly explanined the material while making it fun and exciting. The other best aspect of this class was the instructor... one of the best instructors i have had at the university.
The facts and lectures presented in class were amazing.
Examples, videos.
The fact that much of this info can be applied to everyday life.
learning the skeptics perspective and how to apply it to everyday situations
I feel like this course gave me a much stronger understanding of critical thinking and research methodology than the ACTUAL methodology course ever did.
Available slides
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
sometimes the lectures were straight from the books. example wise. andy's really smart, i appreciate the material backup but more new examples would have been nice for me
none
He shouldn't have told us that he will let us go early some of the time. It made the days that he lectured for the full time harder.
The least vlauable part of this class was the weight put on the test. The tests were fair, but there is a lot of pressure to do well if you want a high class grade.
Some of the readings were not needed and one book was barely read.
Nothing. Everything helped.
none.. i thought it was all very informative
reading the book
While the paranormal phenomena served as an excellent illustration of the concepts Professor Dewald was teaching and were very interesting, studying these topics was the least useful thing about the course.
9. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
Andy
the critical thinking methods that i have begun using in real life. I've become more of a skeptic.
Everything we learned. Mainly ghosts and spirits. It helped me to understand and not be afraid of ghosts. Because technically they don't exist.
being my favorite psychology class
watching Penn and Teller episodes
Andy being the interesting professor who changed my view on the supernatural.
The awesome instructor.
The lectures and how professor taught us to really think about paranormal phenomena.
The teacher and content. Both were great
the humor that went along with it.. was probably my favorite class i have taken in college
the lectures... they are interesting and different from most psych lectures
The critical thinking methods taught in this course were useful and easy to remember. I will likely be employing them well into the future.
teacher and material
10. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
think
I've learned to become a skeptic. I don't take things at face value, and I learn to think about things critically before accepting things at fact. I feel less gullible.
Learning to think critically and take a further look at presented evidence will help me in the future.
insight into people. how to deal with people and their beliefs more effectively. understanding.
being more skeptical of things
This course opened my eyes to see the world in another light. Before this course I was one of the believers of the paranormal and didn't care that people were skeptic. But now i'm a skeptic and it's a good thing. I can leave this course full aware that we can't explain everything but what we do know should be examined to find plausible causes. Now I can say that i'm not so gulible. Thanks Andy.
This class is about real world psydoscientific and paranormal scams. everything about this class will benefit me personally.
I thought it was extremely interesting and I learned a lot about the subject and can rationalize a lot better because of it.
Knowledge of thinking like a skeptic. Not believing everything I hear.
not to be gullible and really look into what people are saying
how to argue with religious freaks
See above.
