13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
great teacher! :)
He is extremely knowledgable of the material. Is very prepared every class. STRONGLY encourages the class to participate in everything. Knows a lot of information and is an excellent Professor.
This course is an excellent elective choice for people not only interested in American Studies but ALSO interested in social meda, technology, etc. This course is challenging in its own way, but if you follow Sean's clearly designed course schedule you should be able to stay on top of things. I like the independant flow of this class, assignments and tumblr posts are done on your own time, however, that can be a double edged sword for the slackers. Overall I throughly enjoyed this class.
He is an excellent teacher and he delivers a lot of information based on the reading material.
He is a very knowledgable professor. The design of his class is extremely amazing! I wish more classes were designed like his. He allows us to learn in a healthy interactive environment!
He's a very intelligent yet personable progessor, which makes his class interesting, fun, and not intimidating.
A really cool, laid-back guy who has a really open teaching style that helped me out a lot.
very intellectual knows what he is talking about.
Professor Trundle strikes me as a fair, competent, and knowledgeable instructor. While a single course is hardly enough for me to really form much of an (informed) opinion, let alone to recommend him, I would not mind taking another course under his instruction.
very smart, funny individual. Great experience although it was rough to do assignments when your not given actual due dates.
great teacher who put a unique twist on teaching a class

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked the gamification aspect of the course
The "missions" or homework assignments. He made every class interesting and educational. Made me actually want to go to his class every time. The quizzes were also a great because they made sure you did the reading.
I really enjoyed the multi-medium aspect of this course. We were posting on tumblr, wikis, as well as having class discussions. I like the point system because its a clear indication of how well you're doing. You can tell Sean is really knowledgable of the course material and he wants all of his students to well. I can't imagine reading 40+ tumblr points a night AND do his grad school side work! And all the while he does it with a smile on his face. I really enjoyed Sean and I hope he continues to teach this class.
All of the work was done online by submitting the work to either AMST334 website or Tumblr to experience the online features.
The whole class set up
I loved how the class was structured like a game, it was an experience that I will definitely miss as I know my future classes will not be like this one.
Learning about social media and how its affecting our daily conversations in real-time.
ted talks video
I liked the way the class/course attempted to engage the students more actively than a straight-forward lecture class. The autonomy offered by the "optional" class assignments was also a good exercise in time-management skills, something which (in my experience) is rare in many other courses. Although I found it stressful at the time, I find it to be a very valuable experience, in retrospect.
working on computers a lot and gaining media literacy knowledge.
the game like grading system
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
nothing
As I mentioned before, the course work is posted on your own time. I am taking 18 credits, working on my thesis and work full time so sometimes I would find myself slipping up on posting, however, that is not so much an aspect of the COURSE I didn't like but rather an aspect of my time managment I didn't like while taking this course.
None.
I liked everything.
Can't think of any.
oral presentations
The choice of assignments could have been broader, although this may change with the possible incorporation of assignments suggested by students (for course credit). In addition, I believe that the oral communications requirements did not take into account the brief class sessions. If future courses follow a similar Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule (with fifty minutes of class per day), I would hope that the shorter time allotment will be taken into account, and the oral communication requirements adjusted (i.e., reduced) accordingly. But this is not an ideal world.
having to control your own work load. For some people it is rough.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
AWESOME. Great teacher. One of the most engaging classes I've ever taken.
really great and interesting class.
EXCELLENT COURSE. I would recommend it to absolutely anyone. You can get so much out of this course if you want to, you just have to put in the time do your tumblr posts and show up to class. Sean makes the material fun, his teaching method is new and interesting and is relevant to college students. You get what you put in to this course, but at the end of this semester I'm glad I am taking away what I did.
This class is a lot of fun and very interesting. I would recommend students taking AMST 334 because most of work is straightforward and easy to do.
Awesome and memorable class!
Great, a class that everyone should take, especially the way society is today.
A really great class that's structured in a way that actually encourages people to be proactive rather than just going through the motions turning in assignments with little or no thought.
good
The course is very informative and was well worth the time and effort. I learned a great deal more than I had been expecting (I was partly anticipating and hoping that there would be more history), and the issues and concepts raised in the course were engaging and worthy of contemplation. I would heartily recommend the course to anyone who asks.
Good class, a lot of computer work, can tell he likes what he does.
Fun and interesting way to look at a class.
great class

I would recommend anyone to take his class.
Great Professor!! Very passionate and extremely knowledgable.
No other comments.
A great class with a great teacher.
It would have been nice to know about the required texts before the first day of class, but I understand that the UH system is a bit...wanting.
Great teacher, even though my mind is currently hurting and confused from the robot discussions we have been having!!!
good

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
best teacher evahhhh. really creative with his approach to this class. i think he secretly cares for all of us since he designed the class so that if we did all the work we'd all get at least an A-. i mean, really - he could've gone with the usual 2 essays 3 exams route and make it easier for himself but no he went with giving out missions. we thought the missions were a pain sometimes but he had to grade em all, lol. plus that was a lot of thinking ahead for his part with unlocking missions and different levels and such. i'm curious how much work he put in. anyway, super cool dude. hope this thing works out cos it was a fun experience.
Sean Trundle is an excellent professor who is extremely knowledgeable about the course material. He is also easy to talk to and can be easily reached for office hours if one needs to consult with him about any issues or questions.
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was a fun class.
Fair and fun way to teach the course.
He is awesome. He's got humor, seriousness, relate-ability, knowledgeable, passionate, intelligent, and Sean.
Sean is a well rounded teacher who is passionate about the subject. He was always available upon request and quickly reply to my emails and concerns. However, I felt that this course was overwhelming for many students perhaps, his passion to do well as a instructor for this course might of been the reason.
incredibly intelligent instructor. Awesome class and assignments!
Sean is not too far off from the typical college student's background (age too). I think a lot of students (especially more game-cultured oriented ones) can relate to Sean. He kept his enthusiasm and wittiness as best he could, and I think it was good enough (better than a lot of other professors I had). Overall I would say Sean was a cool professor.
He really knows his stuff and does his research about the material he teaches.
Good teacher, very clear
He was a great teacher for this course! I feel as though I learned a lot and I found the content very interesting. The assignments we were given were challenging but very interesting as well. He was always prepared and very easy to get in contact with if I had questions about anything related to the course.
This guy knows too much. Besides that he's amiable, knowledgeable, up to date. I thought he did a good job of presenting both sides of the arguments without ranting or being at all disagreeable.
Good instructor, knowledgeable about the subject matters that we covered. Prompt return of emails and communication.
Friendly and outgoing. Was fair and leaning towards lenient with grading.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
i liked the whole video game concept in the classroom to teach the class thing. for me it helped with focusing in class or topics discussed because there was always something to do (missions and such) and stay on top of it. i also liked that since it's a digital america class, we were able to use/experiment with different online mediums to communicate even though it was awkward. class discussions were engaging since the read-before-class missions made us read before and made class fun cos everyone was talking and not awkward yay. since it's an oral communication class i feel like the oral assignments helped me (even tho i'm still awkward and suck) with getting comfortable with public speaking so that's cool.
The discussions in class.
I liked the open class discussions.
I liked the smaller class size. It made class discussions more interesting, and it was easier for me to participate.
posting the blogs on tumblr
The way he ran the class like a game was awesome. He incorporated the course concepts into the "game" and allowed a diversity of assignments to fulfill our goals. There is a near zero possibility of failing unless you are media illiterate and you don't do enough assignments to make point value.
I enjoyed the assigned books and the mini boss missions and some of the oral presentations. The way sean critical engaged the topics was very effective.
the idea of the class were most of your points came from completing the online missions!
This class presented a new formatting that was quite different. Blog posts on Tumblr and presentations in class were what decided the grades of students. Every assignment was called a mission, and a lot of the missions had requirements of completing past missions in order to do higher point missions. It seemed like earlier in the semester that not enough points was gonna be awarded from these missions, but in the end (I would say that) there was an overabundance of points available for students to max out on in order to get an A.
I liked the class discussions because I could relate to some of the topics talked about in class. Also, the subject matter was able to relate to nearly all members of the class.
The go at your own pace missions
I liked that it was self motivated, but that did come with challenges. The reading was very interesting.
I really liked the readings and the subjects covered. I also liked the whole Missions thing. There were some really fun and interesting things I learned, like blogging and video blogging and radio casting.
Everything, it gave me a new insight on technology and online communications.
This was the first course that I took in which the assignments were structured in this manner. At first I was a bit apprehensive about it, but as time went on I liked the flexibility for us to decide which assignments we could choose to do.
The structure of the course encouraged my to budget my time more consciously. Also the creative aspects of the assignments engaged me in a good way.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
i didn't like that the missions were more interesting/fun to do that i neglected my other classes' boring homeworks. also i could have done away with the final boss mission as a group work only because it's already really hard to schedule people together let alone make a video plus editing blehhh. i mean i get it, we get to bond and share knowledge and all but gah group works eww. final essays yesss.
The format of the missions aka. assignments.
I felt that several of the required texts could've been either eliminated or condensed, since we didn't spend too much time talking about them in class.
I didn't like the scoring.
readings for class
I can't say there is anything. I can't complain.
There were way too many missions listed and just TOO MUCH to do in one semester. This course stressed me out and took away time from other classes. There were assign readings daily; on top of that, bunch of missions that i had to do on my own time to meet the points for 3 different categories. some of the missions involving technology was difficult to do because i had to attempt to figure it out on my own. so it was DISADVANTAGE for students who are not good with computers. Maybe consider pairing the students up for these missions. Im not sure if i agree with the combined online and oral base class structure;trying to do there were just too many things going on in this class. I fell behind on my other classes because of this class and the stress led to discourage. Many students were so pressured that they were happy with getting a C for this class and i think studdents shouldn't feel like that.
when students would teach the class
Some of the course-material itself was rather boring, but I guess I can't expect everything to be fun. There was also a delay on the later, higher-point missions being posted for students to do. I don't blame Sean for either faults. It was just some things I was aware of.
I did not like how missions would be posted up here and there and we were unaware of when new missions would be posted unless an email was given. Instead, I think it would be better if he put in the syllabus when he would post new missions and how often.
Overall structure of being point based through missions. Required tremendous amount of work to gain points through this system. Points did not correlate with how difficult the missions were. (.ie beginning assignments worth about 30 points each when you need to reach 2000 for an A+) Class readings did not correspond with the assignments due through our wikipages site or through the tumblr page.
I would have liked if the course Wiki was updated once the missions were expired so that we would know which ones were no longer worth points.
I didn't like having to choose my missions on my own. It sounds dumb but I'm programmed to do assignments, not choose if what and when I will do something. I had a hard time getting my mind around figuring out what to do when and for how many pointsâ?¦ even though it was all written out as plain as day. Don't get me wrongâ?¦ the concept is fantastic, I just had some difficulty. Overall I'd say this was one of my more labor intensive classes. Lots of reading. Lots of writing. Then all the other stuff like trying new games to write reviews, reading other students' posts, group projects, etc. I mean it took me HOURS to do the Pirate Radio mission. Like 6-8 Hours between finding the songs, signing up for the two different websites, figuring that whole mess out, scripting and recording the DJ portion, etc. It was hella fun though and I learned something I might just use again so it was definitely worth it.
The first few weeks of the course was confusing, but I think it was because the course was very new to me, and I still needed time to adjust.
The final video. Videos suck. Sorry. Other mini bosses were fine.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
honestly it was the only class i looked forward to so yay good class. it was engaging and fun and a lot of the concepts we learned are relevant to our lives now. trundle was awesome. i do think that the course should be published as online-hybrid class or something on the class availabilities tho cos a lot of us were thrown off at how much online stuff we had(if we chose the mission) to do. other than that, A+ will shop again.
It's an interesting class set-up that isn't like the usual grading format, but can be very engaging and interesting if one puts their effort into it. One also can learn a lot about the current digital and technological wave in America and its global and societal impacts.
It was definitely interesting and different from any other course I've taken here. I learned a lot. Not only about digital media, but about sociological and psychological aspects of games and such.
fun and different
Amazing. It is a lot of hard work. It looks and probably took a lot of hard work to create it. It is fail- safe friendly. Your desired grade is totally achievable. Your grade is pretty much in your hands. It is an innovative way of teaching this course.
Sean had good intentions for this class. The content, lecture and discussion was very educational and effective however, the overwhelming and pressuring amounts and requirements for the missions were stressful and discourging.
awesome!
I would recommend this course for students needing ethical and oral in their general requirements. I would recommend this class as a pretty chill class as well. I don't recommend slacking off, but just keep up with the Tumblr posts, do some presentations, come to class, and it's gonna feel like students can slack off and still get an A.
Very interesting and unique. I like how this course is different from other courses.
I would not reccomend this class to anyone, no real incentive to do any of the required readings. Topics were interesting, with poor implementation through course planning.
Great class setup, missions are manageable but challenging
I enjoyed this course very much, but I don't think I would take another self directed learning class again. I found it somewhat difficult to keep up with when the assignments expired because there were so many to choose from.
Triple A Plus. Honestly, this is a hard course to evaluate. It was a lot of hard work. It was a new and unsettling (for me) format. There were no (easy, if any) answers to the discussions we had. The last section on copyright laws was definitely the driest, and hard to focus on at the end of the semester when class size was dwindling, etc. Plus, it was also probably the most pertinent to everyday life in the digital age. I'm personally glad I stuck around for it, whether I needed the in-class points or not.
I really recommend this class to anyone whoâ??s really interested in the digital world.
I probably didn't have a problem with the class as much as other students did. It's not Sean's fault that other students are lazy and unmotivated and unable to grasp the concept that Sean was trying to push for. Other students might say that they didn't like that none of the assignments were mandatory but technically that's true of every single class. Don't want to do something in your geology class? Don't do it. It's the same in this case except it was much more straightforward. I didn't mind the class format at all. OTHER STUDENTS WHO SAY THAT THE FORMAT WAS STUPID ARE STUPID THEMSELVES AND SHOULDN'T BE IN SCHOOL IF THEY DON'T WANT TO APPLY THEMSELVES. COLLEGE IS FOR LEARNING.
Interesting class!
The variety of the assignments kept the class interesting and fresh throughout the semester.

four for you glen coco you go glen coco
I would highly suggest that in the future the missions themselves wouldn't be so time consuming, as many of them require you to do a lot of research and typing, or another option would be to lower the grading scale, so it wouldn't be so difficult to even get a "B+"/"A-." I feel that it is possible to get an "A" in the class, but you have to put a LOT of time and effort into it. Being the course level that it is, at 300 level, I feel that many of the missions required too much time so that it felt like you were doing an assignment for a 400 level class instead. Other than that, I would recommend this course to other people, and hope that Sean keeps this unique grading format in place.
I would absolutely love to see this course being taught the way Sean teaches it again. I found that it was a healthy range of "fun for points" and "hardcore critical engagement" that all relate to the course no matter the assignment. This is perfect to go with the gamers and tumblr-addicts. Sean always makes his classes fun, interesting, and informative.
I was thinking bout her, thinkin bout me Thinkin bout us, what we gon' be Open my eyes, yeah, it was only Just A Dream
Please revert back to previous class format.
This course could be improved if there were more creative missions involved.
I think the in-class quiz on the reading homework was a good addition and should be implemented at the beginning of the semester. This class only works if everyone is up to date on the reading. I think that was probably the biggest contributor to the overwhelming crickets at times. Lastly, kudos to whomever dreamed up the course and also to whomever approved it. That Sean Trundleâ?¦ he's a keeper.

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Nice and easy to approach. Style was not used to but after got used to it. COmmunicated well.
He is a great, intelligent teacher and I learned a lot from his lectures. He encourages and motivates the class to participate in discussions. Sean is really easy to talk to, and always very willing to help all students. He is extremely understanding as well.
Interesting.
Very intelligent and great at explaining readings. Needs to explain more and give more preparation time for projects and debates.
Very good professor, and very organized. Was very knowledgeable and was able to provide help when there was confusion and was always available for consultation. Was very fair with grading, especially in the group grades.
Sean is an excellent instructor and is well versed in digital media in the US. His enthusiasm for the subject made class discussions interesting (which was especially helpful for the more difficult readings). I appreciated his timely feedback on assignments and felt that his comments were always very thorough. Overall, I would recommend this class to friends (with Sean as an instructor).

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Learning about copyright and videogames was interesting. THe group projects were good in that it required people with different ideas and strengths and put together
I liked the class discussions and group work because it brought all of us closer together.
Group work and primary source presentations
The discussions.
Loved the many different topics that were discussed in the course. Also liked the topics about the copyright laws, as well as other aspects surrounding the CR law system. Enjoyed the videos on the different authors of books that we were currently reading
Most of the material covered in class was new to me, so I found the material interesting and relevant to my life outside of school. Of the assignments we were given, I think the primary source presentation was the most interesting to both watch and research. I really enjoyed the book Reality is Broken by McGonigal.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Readings were dense and long.
Too much reading!
Readings.
not enough time, information or preparation for projects
I did not like the wiki page design because it felt as though there was a lot of work for one project. On top of the presentation, it was difficult to organize time to make sure that the wiki page was done
This being a summer course, I found that some of the readings were long. I especially found the chapters from Convergence Culture difficult to read, not because of content, but because the readings felt repetitive.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Pretty challenging but learned a lot. I probably wouldn't take another course in that it requires much more knowledge of media and video games that I had no previous knowledge of.
I really thoroughly enjoyed this course and will recommend it to all my friends. I learned a lot and think that it is useful to apply to everyday life.
Cool.
The course was very interesting. It gave me a different view on technology and its impact on society.
Very informative and intriguing course
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this class and how much I learned during this session. I begrudgingly registered for this class to fulfill a graduation requirement (upper division O), and I was afraid that it would be a waste of my time. However, the material chosen for this course is excellent and Sean did a great job of focusing on the important aspects of digital media in America.

he has a firm grasp of the material and was decent in pressing the students to think critically, but I would have him work on creating discussions by sticking to the point/side he chooses in order to force students to explain their side more critically.

the wide variety of books and presentations that we did
The presentations were awesome and allowed for lots of interaction and although they were somewhat demanding, not so much so that they were discouraging.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Some of the readings were a little difficult to grasp
Probably the lack of discussion, although that is on the students as much as the teacher.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
A very good course in culture studies, would recommend it to anyone.
it was a good, interesting, and stimulating class on a difficultly vague and broad topic, which demands more time than six weeks. However, within the time frame, Trundle did quite well.

Great! I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot, while having fun! That is very rare to find in a class, let alone a professor.
The course materials were interesting, however the lectures in every class grew boring. I would have appreciated more class discussions, group work, etc.
pretty chill dude. He tried to get everyone to participate in discussion but it didn't work in the beginning. good call on the quizzes - everyone started discussing (i see what you did thurrrr). Also the awkward silences are the best.

My favorite was specifically learning and reading about comic books and linking them to more political issues.
i liked the primary source assignment
I really liked the Hip Hop section of the course. It was really easy and interesting and great to get into.
The discussions were very interesting and thought-provoking. I particularly enjoyed the section on Comic Book Nation and the Hip-hop section.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Some of the other readings were rather difficult though interesting in subject.
while i enjoyed studying for the oral exam, i did not enjoy presenting the oral exam.
A lot of READING!!!! >_<
Readings at times were somewhat lengthy, moderately difficult to read, and a little challenging to keep up with at times.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
very interesting and fun. I have enjoyed my AMST class more than my major (Business) classes
This class was awesome. Was the only class i looked forward to this semester because the topics were interesting and i learned new things everyday. yay!
Great course for those who need an Oral Communications class.
An overall enjoyable class that I enjoyed for the most part.
18. Other comments:
=)
Nope. just a great course and cool teacher.
Readings that were online were convenient and saved money although the material from the books was useful. Some sections were not as personally intriguing as others but understandable to gain a well-rounded view. Using more visual/video material could be an interesting and possibly more engaging approach.

Strong teaching abilities, with an immense depth of knowledge on the materials and related concepts.
Good teacher. Creates a comfortable environment.
He is a caring instructor that creates a environment that allowed us to openly discuss our ideas on each novel. Every subject was on the table, race, sex, age, cultural aspects, and many more. He kept on pushing us to see if he could fish for better answers out of us by asking constantly telling us "well, that's intresting, tell me more."
Great teacher! Nice to students. Encourages discourse and friendly dialogue about both the students and the material.
He was able to effectively lead class discussions which is important because it was set up as more of a seminar style class. He knows what he specifically wants in his papers but still, it was a little confusing to figure out exactly what the points he wanted us to hit, were

the books! and the discussions!
we were required to prepare at least 3 questions for each class discussion and it virtually eliminated the temptation to skim the reading before class. it forced us to really think about the books.
He planned the course where you can see the country as a whole develop over time and it gave a real narrative as to how the country had changed over time.
I liked the reading assignments and the first emplacement essay the most. I also liked the films that he showed.
The book selections
17. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
n/a
None. Most aspects of this class were standard for any literature discussion-based course you choose to take.
He did not explain his Blackfoot heritage.
At first, the teacher did not give have a running dialogue with the students when they would answer a question. Later, he seemed to understand that we appreciated when he would respond to our answers instead of just moving on to the next subject/student.
The papers were a little confusing.
18. My overall evaluation of this course is...
amazing, really good course and teacher.
Good books, good movies, good class. Always wanted to see Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" so thanks.
He often shows his deep knowledge of such subjects and he also exposed us to amazing papers. In a sense it forces you to think more critically about what you read.
I would take this course again if I could! It was challenging and fun.
It's good to really see the connection between history, place, and people (a great humanities course).

an enthused teacher who loves the subject and topics brought to class. he is great in communication with helping students in presentations, debates, and the concepts behind readings.
He was a well prepared and thoughtful professor. Encouraged group discussion from all participants. He made used current sources to illustrate the relevance of topics and arguments of books he required us to read, and always encourage us to think and explain our statements. He was very nice, well prepared, and well mannered. Did not talk down to students, and although authoritative was relatable and considerate to students. I definitely learned a lot in this course, and a lot of why that was was because he taught the class effectively and established a common ground of respect in the classroom, expected and encouraged all participants viewpoints.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Primary Source Presentations
The range of topics and how they all interconnected and informed eachother. The books he had us read were actually enjoyable and really informed the content of the class well.
I really enjoyed the reading that Sean assigned for class.
-topic choices were interesting and required critical thinking skills
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
short course due to summer session
That it was in the summer session and moved so quickly. I also wasn't a big fan of the debate portion of the class, however, it was an effective means to deliver course content and utilize and demonstrate some of the relevancy of issues we discussed, and how these aren't easy, but on-going questions society has to face.
N/A
-some of the readings were kind of difficult to comprehend
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
very interesting and informative
The course teaches a great deal to students who are interested in how media works and how society is affected by it. with a great teacher like sean it becomes a powerful learning environment rich in concepts and opportunity to grow
GOOD COURSE. It was a stimulating albeit even fun to an extent, way to learn about issues like copyright and progression of media within the context of technology. Great way to use Ethics and Oral, which were innate to the discussions.
The course is interesting. I am not an American Studies major so I came into the class with no knowledge of the subject matter, however I was intrigued and ended up enjoying the class.
-good class -I'd recommend to other students in need of the E and/or O credit -good for students interested in how technology transformed and continues to transform America

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
A decent professor who does try to encourage people to participate in discussions. However, the questions he asked are kind of confusing of what he wanted for an answer. Sometimes some people (non American Studies majors) have a hard time answering the questions.
He is a cool dude who makes students think deeply about the course matter.
he's a really nice guy who is REALLY interested in popular culture. He has a lot of background knowledge which he uses to bring things full circle. Also, I appreciate that he's read all the books that he requires us to read. It's almost creepy how he can recite a topic from anywhere in any book that we have to read.
He knows what he is talking about
A cool and smart professor, however i would have liked his to have used more simple terms when discribing examples or in his questions. i would have liked to answer the questions if only i could understand them. Simple vocabulary is prefered.
I think he is very knowledgable and he knows what he is speaking on in class and I took away a lot of things I did not know about popular culture. He thought me how to view popular culture in a different way.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I like the part of having a group facilitation, but I would suggest giving more time for people to gather together to have more time to plan it out. Due to the fact that some people have work etc which greatly affects the days people can meet up if there is only about less than couple weeks for this group project.
The readings were intersting and I felt comfortable speaking in class.
I liked the variation of books. We got a range of different aspects of popular culture.
The videos and presentations. They are fun to watch and do.
-- snipped --
I like when we had to interview someone in popular culture that was really fun I learned a lot from the person that I got to interview.
* Showing 5 out of 6 survey responses.

16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
-- snipped --
I didn't like the part of just having the professor asking us questions and have some people answer it. I would suggest like have people get into groups for each session and the professor distributes a certain question to the groups. Therefore, allowing for more discussion and for other people to express what they think
The online readings were a bit of a hassle as they would not print out and it can be hard to read material from a computer screen and it added a lot of pressure to read it along with the books.
The research paper.
long readings, maybe cut down on some readings and focus on those?
Some of the reading material wasnt as fun as others but overall I really enjoyed this class
* Showing 5 out of 6 survey responses.

17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
It was a pretty interesting course to see how American Culture changed throughout times. However, some books or articles was confusing or cause people to not know what is the relevance to the chapter or the topic of the course.
Very interesting and fun.
fun course to discuss about interesting things
it was a good experience. not bad for my fist class in American Studies.
I think overall this course really makes you view popular culture in a different way than you would of before coming into this class.

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Very well-prepared. Clearly has a vast understanding on the subject.
Good professor. He tries his best to keep the class engaged with positive morale, despite a reluctant class. Morning classes may not be the best time. Also, he does not give enough warning time when class is cancelled.
Sean is a good professor. He is knowledgeable about the course content and readings, and every assignment was relevant to the class. He also encourages class discussion and participation and sees that everyone has a chance to have their voice/opinion heard.
Professor Trundle is always well prepared and very knowledgeable on the course material. He was a great instructor and always encouraged class participation.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Critical thinking and deep analysis of each book that is read. Also, feedback from papers were helpful.
Varied and fascinating reading choices. Many of them were enjoyable to read.
I liked the fact that we got the chance to read types of novels that wouldn't be offered in a regular class. Reading a Batman graphic novel was pretty awesome! I also liked the fact that the writing assignments were fairly straightforward and balanced throughout the semester as opposed to having a few very long papers.
I liked all the reading materials and the course was very interesting.
Reading the Batman comics.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
It was hard boosting class participation, peers were silent and the same people talked over and over.
Although most readings were good, there is a lot to read, especially if done at one time. It easily takes hours of actual reading.
Despite the interesting reading assignments, the sheer amount of reading we had to do for each class was intense, especially when added to the homework from other classes.
Although I did like the reading materials, I did not enjoy the amount of reading we had to do. This is a 400 level course so that much reading is expected, but still, it was a lot!
Neuromancer
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Interesting, but immense amount of reading each night. Made it difficult.
I've gained a better understanding of this country's beliefs. The American frontier mindset continues to be present today. Though, this course may be a tough sell with a lot of reading and writing, but it shouldn't be a surprise with it being DL, WI.
This course was a fun course to take and very reasonable for an upper division WI credit. I would recommend other students to take this course, especially if they're looking for a fun WI credit.
A good and informative course. I learned a lot about the frontier and culture, society and literature and how they all intertwine. It was a very interesting course and was enjoyable.
Two thumbs Up
18. Other comments:
This was a WI course. The required pages to write should be spread out (weekly, single page), rather than a few papers with many pages.

11. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Sean is a great teacher with a different style of teaching method that involves the student in discussions in class. Since this class was a oral communications class, I had the opportunity to lead and facilitate class discussions which helped me learn the material by using critically evaluating the authors arguments.
a very knowledgeable person beyond his own profession.
Sean held a very engaging class.
he is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches, and seems to have a lot of interest in it as well. Very approachable, witty, and easy to understand. Learned more than I expected.
Great teacher, enthusiastic about topics and subjects being taught. Class time flies by as a result, great job!
Effective and capable teacher, with lots of enthusiasm for both the course and students.
He is a great instructor. He made the material interesting and was available for help or advice. He also is caring about not just the class, but his students as well.
He is very knowledgable of all the texts in class, and he greatly encouraged class participation. He should definitely continue to teach this course.
he is very knowledgeable in digital media and its impact on people, politics and online worlds
great
knowledgeable, and engaging.

13. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
This course was strictly a discussion/presentation based class which helped me build my confidence in delivering speeches in front of other peers.
Simply everything. I do like the fact that the course was mostly read and discuss.
I liked that students were able to lead their own class sessions.
The discussions in class made me really open my mind to new ideas and concepts. Since everything is really open-ended, it was a neverending cycle of ideas on top of ideas. It was very interesting.
Topics dealing with music, video games, and the current technology.
Certain reading material felt very intriguing, such as social issues and debates.
Interactive discussions and activities in class.
I liked how we learned about aspects of copyright and creative property that I probably would not have known on my own.
The readings, the teacher, style of class-work-environment.
I liked working in debate teams
listening
the course material was fun to present.
The provocative material and the timely topics of the subject.
doing presentations because speech is my strength
14. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I did not like the fact that we did not utilize the internet more in class to give actual representations of the material we were studying in class to help facilitate our understanding of the material at hand. I wished that more concrete visual examples were shown in class to help me understand the authors arguments clearly.
N/A
I wish there were a way to guarantee all students had done their reading, so that we could have more productive class sessions. Perhaps, have a small worksheet that has to be completed for each reading prior to class.
Wished we had more time to work on our research paper, perhaps handing them out earlier in the semester to allow us the chance to think about possible topic choices.
We had a lot of assigned reading to do.
Some readings felt distant from the class's experience and sometimes too technical to be fun.
Some of the readings were too long.
The class facilitation. I didn't dread the idea of having to teach the class, but having a meeting with the students before their presentation to ensure they grasp the concept of the material probably would've helped.
The part where we had to do talking.
The readings needed some getting used to, I did not like reading the books at first
too much reading
too much reading for and Oral focus class
just the time slot...a little too late. but can't blame anyone for that.
15. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Digital America is a great course that will create both thoughts of wonderful possibilities and scenes of negative social impacts of internet use for future generations.
AMST 334 is a course that should be more widely available to students. There is a lot of relevant and thought-provoking material for contemporary society.
I really enjoyed coming to class and having a professor who regularly wanted to hear what his students have to say about a topic.
It really made me think much more about politics and technology in general, which is a surprise because I am not a big fan of politics. At all.
Amazing course!!! Will/Have recommended it to other students.
A-
I really enjoyed this class, and I learned a lot that I wouldn't learn otherwise.
This course was interesting. It wasn't exactly what I thought it would be from the beginning and looked at different aspects of how people are social online and other interesting concepts. I did not enjoy much of the readings required for each class but overall it wasn't bad.
Great course. Emphasis on Great.
perfectly adequate
