19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think the course is well structured as it is.
None, was a great course and very eye opening to different ways of thinking and analyzing things. Made me realize many different things.
Some students preferred different names over those listed on their forum names. While it was easy enough to see what they preferred by reading their comments, I think it would be beneficial to post a list of the names students prefer at the beginning of the semester. This way, students do not get offended by other students using incorrect names.
There is a lot of writing, even for a writing intensive course. Between the posts and papers, there seemed to be a lot. The amount of reading was a little much too.
I think it would be good if Professor Brown also provides some of his own perspective on the reading materials assigned. It is good to get feedback from my fellow classmates, but I also would like Professor Brown's thoughts on certain topics.
Please start utilizing grade book. It was frustrating having to repeatedly ask for my grade over and over. Additionally, for papers and projects, perhaps be more clear on specific requirements. Additionally, I would not make students have to post by a certain date.
The forum posts are are great way to communicate with other students and professor Brown, The amount required to post every week is fair.
Minimize the readings. It was a little difficult to get all those readings done and also meeting other courses readings.
The readings did seem like a lot at times, but it was very valuable information where it helped me learn a lot throughout the course.
20. Online communication with class members and the instructor helped me to learn course materials in an effective manner.

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?
I liked that we had a least two or three days to do each of the postings. It made it much easier for me to plan out my time with my other classes.
I liked reading my classmates feedback on Laulima for my weekly postings.
I was given enough time to complete assignments on time.
Professor Brown was very knowledgable and his material and interactions with the students showed that. I really appreciated that he always responded quickly to emails and forum posts.
Steve was very good about reading our comments and leaving questions for us to think about. It is nice to know that a professor is actually reading all my work!
I was able to do the work on my own time.
I love the topic of the course and it was clear that Steve knows the subject well.
I liked the fact that I did not need to attend to class physically. However on the flip side of the coin, I think I actually would have retain more information if it was a regular class. Disability Studies was a very interesting course. There were many things that I did not specifically know about and this class was a real eye opener to understanding disability a lot better.
I liked that the assignments were spaced out well. The discussion forums were a great way to interact with my classmates and share our opinions on different subject matters in the field of disability studies.
I liked the flexibility of not having to physically be in a class.
I enjoyed being able to learn, and make posts on my own time.
I enjoyed that we were the ones facilitating discussions. I liked that everyone shared their own experiences and questions about certain readings.
Being required to participate in online discussions throughout the week helped me to stay engaged and to discipline myself to do well in this online class. I learn a lot from how other students explain what they have read in our readings or their opinions on the topics we cover.
It gave me an different perspective on learning with out actually being in a classroom but online.
23. What did you like least about your online course experience?
There was a large amount of reading.
n/a
Laulima froze a couple times and I had to retype my work.
There was quite a bit of reading.
Like I said previously about not retaining as much as if I were to actually be in class. Perhaps I absorb information best with both visual and audio.
The only downside of an online class is that there was no face-to-face conversations.
Not having access to my grades.
n/a
The amount of reading that had to be done was challenging.
Sometimes I felt some students got a little sensitive to how other students worded phrases, especially when it came to talking about disabilities. Sometimes we just do not know how to word phrases properly and it may be hard to completely avoid effecting anyone's feelings.
Itʻs not so much seen as I didnʻt like something about this it was more so a very different experience.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked the weekly laulima discussions with our classmates
The freedom to think outside the box
The course load was spaced out as evenly as possible so nothing was crammed.
The medias presented (readings, videos, websites, images, etc.) were very interesting and every week was something new and it always grabbed my attention.
I really enjoyed reading all the comments and opinions of my fellow classmates. Many brought up aspects of an article that I had not considered.
The different materials were better for me. So instead of just reading, there were audio and video materials and I believe that helped me understand the topic better.
See above
I liked how there are many different answers to a question and that understanding multiple perspectives helped me gain a better understanding of disability studies.
The best part of this course is that the deadline for submitting assignments are great. I liked that for the weekly discussions we were required to pose a question to the class because it really helped me comprehend and analyze the readings better.
I liked the week focused on the Holocaust
I enjoyed the research paper instead of an actual test for the final.
The discussion board was great! I enjoyed reading everyones questions and responses.
I liked that we did not just have to stick to reading books and articles, but we were also given pictures, videos, and websites to look at.
I like the mixture of both readings and videos. I really enjoyed the interesting questions we all posted.
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
n/a
The minor bugs on laulima, but nothing directly related to the course.
See above
There is a lot of writing required for this class, but it is expected since this is a writing intensive course.
The research paper as the directions were not entirely clear, it would have been nice to have more of a structure to follow.
n/a
Again the amount of reading was a challenge.
N/A
26. Other comments:
I would have like to have more feedback on the weekly comments we were required to post.
Thank you for a great semester Professor Brown! The material in this class has really given me a greater appreciation and respect for individuals with disabilities.
Great class, good teacher. A few suggestions but overall a good experience.
Professor Brown did a great job of communicating online throughout the semester. I will definitely recommend this class in the future.
None.

Thank you for working with my hectic football schedule.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Steven Brown can improve the teaching this course by making the clarifications in the syllabus and helping the students understand the instructions. I was not sure I understood his syllabus, so that I asked him to give his clear explanations what his instructions were before I started doing my online assignments.
- Pick less expensive books (The Staff of Oedipus was VERY expensive) - Keep Gradebook on Laulima updated so we know where we stand throughout the semester, especially in the Discussion Board section.
Dr. Steve really master this field. I must admit that I learned a lot from this class, I may not get a good grade from this class. But I admit that I learned a lot from this class. Dr. Steve is very experienced in the field which he taught to the class.
I think the discussion posts were just hard to keep up with because we had to respond to other people's posts but I slowly learned you can also post a reaction to a video which was easier because I hate reading because in my other classes we also have to do a lot of reading so it becomes very tedious. But I don't think discussion posts should make up most of your grade I think we should have like reaction papers and other discussion activities.

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?
What I liked the most about my online course was that I enjoyed the experience of reading the online history of disability because it gave me a broad knowledge of people with different disabilities.
All topics are Dr. Steve bring to this class is really relevant and appropriate to the needs of people with disabilities like me.
I liked the fact that it was online to save me the trip to school to fight for parking. And I also liked that I learned about the history of disabilities and I got more of a sense about like why we think the way we do. I especially liked the book report because it was interesting to learn about side shows and the real aspects of circuses.
23. What did you like least about your online course experience?
I had no problems with my online assignments because Professor Steven Brown made sure that I understood him very clearly. He is accessible to his students and me in the online class.
None. All topics is extraordinary.
The least thing I liked about it was the discussions I think you should at least get most points back even if your discussion is late. I know it's not fair to the students who turn it in early but it is just a discussion post.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
All of the weekly discussion forums were valuable to me because my classmates gave me their different perspectives of people with disabilities and they provided me with more information on FDR (Franklin D. Roosevelt), for example. Intensive writing helps me to practice putting my critical thinking skills on paper and understand the cultural aspects of disability from my own Deaf Cultural perspective. Many videos had English subtitles.
All topics
The aspect I liked best was the book report
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
The aspect of the course I liked the least was lots of online reading assignments.
None, I love all the topics
The least was the discussion posts
26. Other comments:
I really appreciated Steven Brown's email communication and helpfulness because he provided good support and answered all of my questions. His teaching of the course was excellent and easy to understand.
Hopefully Dr. Steve will always be in good health so that many more students are going to learn from him as I have learned so far. I also hoped one day to be working with him in my country.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think that Steve Brown sets high expectations for his students and in my case it made me a better follower of directions. It was the first time anyone had been honest about my writing and it keyed me into areas of needed improvement. I think there was a little too much weekly information to read or view.
Although there was regular interaction on the course forums it would be nice to better understand/get to know and connect with classmates. Perhaps a small group project could be included in the future.
Hold one physical meeting for everyone to see each other; set the tone for the class

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?
I enjoyed the weekly class discussions and enjoyed the diversity of information he provided. I learned a great deal about myself and will take away with me skills which I can apply to my future.
I liked the wide range of topics covered (from Home to Hip Hop) and the wide range of materials that the syllabus included. Utilizing youtubes, websites, newsites, and academic journals was a very effective way of I liked that most of the course materials were available online (including kindle editions of books). I greatly appreciated the flexibility of an asynchronous online class. I appreciate that the Professor was always readily available to answer questions via email or phone.
Flexibility in the times we can interact
23. What did you like least about your online course experience?
Video files - I can't sit still and just watch a video. I have to be engaged to earn.
Lacked a feeling of cohesion amongst students.
Not being able to connect names to faces
24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I loved the books Steve Brown recommended
Wide variety of content. It provided me with a good understanding of changing views and perceptions of disability and disability culture throughout history. Helped me to better understand and contextualize current ideas and interpretations about disability.
Ability to choose books for review as well as research topic
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
No survey responses were found.
26. Other comments:
Informative and enjoyable class. Challenged me to see other viewpoints/exposed me to new viewpoints.
Thank you

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I thought he did a good job teaching the course.
N/A
Maybe participate more in the weekly forum
Perhaps by enforcing more deadlines for the research paper (e.g., in sections).
I don't have any suggestions for improvement because he was so open with communicating with his students.
it would be nice to hear his input in the weekly postings
n/a
I loved this course. My eyes were opened to how I and others percieve people with disabilities. The only thing that would have made this course better would be a weekly or bi weekly virtual classroom with open dialog.
not put different time limits on when to respond to posts
I liked the discussion format of the class, but I felt like it left us teaching ourselves. I learned some about others views on topics related to disability, but I didn't feel like I heard much from Steve. Also I wasn't sure if I was expected to get through all the readings and videos for each week, or just some of them, but there really was more than I cared to read, and often I only read enough to make my weekly posts.
need more pointers for the larger writing assignments
I think he can improve by being more active in weekly discussion posts. His teaching would be more effective if he created more discussion throughout the posts and among students. Open ended questions would be sufficient especially because laulima sends students an email when a post is made to their thread or a thread they replied on.
Steve Brown did a great job teaching this course. It was always able to clarify his expectations for the work.
Steven Brown did a great job teaching this course. I enjoyed it tremendously.
Have a shorter or perhaps more compacted syllabus. Syllabus extremely lengthy and was confusing during the first weeks of the semester. But I do like that he was organized.
I don't think there is anything to improve. He is very knowledgable about this topic. I have learned a lot from this class.
Maybe post example papers for the book review and research papers and also if it is possible be available for help on rough drafts if it is done in a timely manner.
I truly enjoyed this class, the stimulating discussions and Steve Brown unbiased contributions on the discussion. He provided feedback on my progress throughout the course, both positive and constructively critical. My only suggestion is that there be more variety in the weekly assignments.
I do not really have any complaints or anything for this course. I really enjoyed this course and I believe Steven Brown did a great job instructing this course.

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?
Easy to learn about new view points because of the online forum. I liked that he used media such as youtube videos that were funny to teach ideas that we learned through the class.
I liked how everything was really independent and I could do things on my own time, rather than being in a classroom.
The ability to do the work at my own pace and the weekly forum assignment.
I enjoyed participating in active discussion every week.
I liked the forums and reading everyone's different views of certain topics. It really made you think in different ways, opening up to hearing how others think.
it gave freedom to do the course requirements when it was a good time for me - there wasn't a specific required meeting time
Allowed me to work at my own pace and schedule and allow myself ample time to come up with informative and creative discussions.
I enjoyed the feedback from other students and the responsiveness of students to questions and answers.
Everything I learned through the readings, videos and panels.
no class
I enjoyed being able to study from home, whenever I wanted to. I enjoyed being able to write out my opinions, rather than having to speak up in a classroom setting, and the anonymity of it left me feeling that I could speak my mind.
I like our online discussions. The questions that came up from classmates were
I liked the weekly question and discussion posts because it made me feel more invested in the class. I liked the posts because I was able to express my own opinion and I think that better and more effective than all the students answering the same set of questions weekly. The posts were manageable and engaging.
The forums were very helpful in keeping track of the readings. The assignments were a variety of readings, videos, and music; they were different ways of learning and very fun. I also liked that Steve had sent out emails updating us on announcements and also our current participation grades.
I liked that the course was mostly self-directed and that while there was a lot of reading material, it was very varied and made for interesting work.
The discussions with the other students were interesting. It was great that we had time to formulate our responses. Many of the answers required a lot of explanatory information. It would have been difficult to answer some of these questions in a physical class.
Posting questions and commenting on questions and comments from my classmates. While reading the material for each week, I could ponder about questions and formulate one. I could think about the questions and comments my classmates posted before writing an answer.
I liked that Professor Brown had both videos and readings for the weekly posts. By having numerous aspects of one subject, I was able to grasp the weeks subject clearer.
I like it so much, that I have learned a lot from my classmates. They have made this class a life-learning experience for me. I loved the different opinions that everyone shared. At times some things were new to me and an eye-opener, but I see life of disable people from a different perspective.
I thought the class was well organized and class expectations were well clarified.
The fact that my schedule for work and life was very flexible. It still matched my educational standards.
I just like taking online courses because it's convenient as I get to do my homework when it's convenient for me and I still can work and do my everyday tasks. I still get to get my education and interact with others and learn about other's experiences and have discussions with others despite not being face to face. Online courses are great for those with busy lives who still want to get a college education. The final thing I like best about the online experience is it teaches discipline because you need to log on and be disciplined enough to do and finish your work by the deadlines despite not having a set time to do each assignment just a deadline. It takes lots of discipline to log on and not get lazy despite all the distractions and other things to do online while having to do your online work.
23. What did you like least about your online course experience?
Sometimes too much busy work.
I was confused at what the expectations were at first, but I quickly got the hang of it.
The issues with Laulima and getting emails from every student doing a forum.
I wish that there had been more deadlines for sections of the research paper so that I would not fall behind. ALso, if there were more opportunities for extra credit.
There wasn't anything that bothered me.
It was the first time to take an online class so it was a bit challenging.
n/a
problems with laulima
Limited interraction with the professor himself. He was always available if we needed him, but otherwise we didn't hear a lot from him.
the online discussions shouldn't have to be throughout the whole week, as long as they get done before the end of the week should be enough.
Nothing
Using Laulima was extremely frustrating. Also, in the discussions I sometimes forgot exactly who I was responding to. It would have been great if the postings also had a picture of the student next to it.
Not seeing my classmates. I would prefer to have a picture of them whenever they post a question or a comment.
I liked that our class was very open and critically in their posts. I always liked that we had several disabled individuals within the group, so they were able to give their personal outlook on the topics.
The message boards were always a difficult part of the week. In one respect I enjoyed it and on the other hand I almost felt like I was biting my nails hoping I didn't offend anyone. I felt at times the message boards didn't seem as academic as they were a place to rant, rave, and provide cynical reviews. At times it felt very overwhelming.
It was difficult to stay organised and keep all my classes straight because each online course works differently.
Once again no complaints from my online experience thus far.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked that we learned how to challenge our previous notions of thinking. I felt like I've learned how to be more about respect through this class and that it's given me a more deep understanding about disability and disability culture. I thought that the professor was quite creative in trying to get us to understand the ideas that we learned in class, and that he made it easy enough for us to understand since most of us did not have experience in disability studies before.
Each topic from week to week was really interesting and gave me a new perspective on the disability culture.
The course made us take a new view of a topic most people over look.
I enjoyed learning through the videos, links to articles, and texts.
I liked the forums because I like hearing about what other people think, especially on the topic of disability.
the resources were appropriate for the weekly topic
There were interesting materials and readings. I learned a lot about disability.
I liked how structured the course was and how deadlines were clearly set. I also was impressed with how the instructor consistently communicated with the students.
the subject material and videos
I learned a lot about what constitutes a disability as well as the issues in dealing with them. I liked that most of the readings and videos were from the perspective of people with disabilities and most of my classmates had direct experience with disabilities as well.
I liked the online discussions because they were interesting and really made you think. They weren't vague.
I liked the weekly posts and the amount of essays that were required.
The readings and the book report paper. It made me read a book I would never come across and it really made me learn a lot of things in our history.
The discussions of attitudes towards disabled people in various periods of history. This course clear up some misconceptions I had had for example that the Spartans let all their disabled infants die. Leaning about eugenics in the US was interesting and disturbing.
Being able to ponder about my questions and comments first before I posted them for my classmates to read. The fact that students had to post questions about the readings. This way a lot of different questions were asked because each classmate looked at the texts with different eyes. Discussions could therefore be varied and were not limited to answering the questions Steven Brown would have asked. This way the questions of the students were answered.
Readings and videos
I like the communication among the classmates and their opinions about each reading.
The new viewpoints brought up, and aspects of history I have previously been oblivious to. From this class I feel convinced disability history should be incorporated into mainstream history classes. I also felt the way this class was arranged highly promoted student learning and understanding of the many different aspects associated with disability history.
The Book Review paper was a great way to apply the course topic to my major and interests. I also enjoyed the discussions. Everyone was respectful and contributed their own perspectives and experiences.
There really wasn't one aspect that I enjoyed more than the other. I enjoyed everything equally because the reading and the online discussions brought knowledge and insight to the topic and objectives of the course. Our book review allowed us to focus on one subject and write about it and learn valuable writing skills while doing it and our final research paper is allowing us to research a topic we are interested in and work on our writing skills from our book review.
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I know that we have to actively participate but there were times when the online forum posts seemed too much.
N/A
I feel like we are obligated to say something nice in the forums. It sometimes made it hard for me as a student to speak my mind.
I did not enjoy the research paper writing experience.
There wasn't anything that I didn't like. He was clear and concise about what he wanted.
sometimes it was difficult to think of a question to post, especially when someone already asked about the topic you were thinking about
n/a
the deadlines for posts
At times the posts seemed forced. I might have prefered a different format for making posts. Perhaps there could have been a few general questions posted each week by the professor that the class could respond to. I thought there were too many questions to respond to, and I rarely felt that there was much back and forth. Mostly people would make one post in response to the question and that was it. And most other people would not respond to the other responses but instead to the question. It kind of limited the dialog.
nothing.
I wish that the course covered a wider range of disabilities in a more detailed way. It would have been interesting to learn about disabilities that aren't as common as Autism.
The section in the class about disability in other cultures. It is certainly an interesting and important aspect, however the section was integrated into the rest of the class very well. A lot of this section amounted to interpreting the significance of mythology. I found it difficult to relate it to the regular experience of disabled people in these cultures.
I was not too interested about the aspect of disability in mythology.
We were required to post throughout the week, not just in one sitting. Though I understand why he did this, some weeks were harder than others to fulfill that requirement.
I realize online education lacks the mode of communication afforded in a regular classroom, but I felt as thought I didn't have a grasp of what was expected of me or how I was developing as a student till big projects were returned with stern reviews.
None.
I enjoyed everything this course had to offer.
26. Other comments:
I liked this class very much, especially since I felt that I genuinely learned a lot.
I had a lot going on this semester that made it so I wasn't able to participate and keep on track with assignments. Professor Brown made sure I was up to date on my progress and tried to help out as much as he could.

Interesting class glad I registered for it.
I enjoyed the book I selected that was listed on the suggested books document (for the book review assignment); I am considering reading more listed during the summer for leisure.
I really liked the flow and content of the class. I would recommend this course to other friends. It really helps you see the world in a different manner.
overall a great class, would recommend to others
Good course and would definitely recommend to my peers.
Good class overall. All of my complaints are minor complaints, and I am generally happy I took the class.
I had a an overall good experience in the course and I would encourage someone to take it. I liked how my essays were graded but I wish I received even more feedback to strengthen my writing skills. For example, I would have liked to have known his opinion about my writing style and level.
I would definitely recommend this course.
The progress reports when Steven Brown told me how many points I already have for my questions and comments were very helpful. This way I knew whether I was on the right track with questions and comments. I hope he tells students who do not reach the full points why they did not reach them. Maybe this could be put into the grade-book on Laulima. I appreciated getting my book report back with readable comments. This really helps to understand what Steven Brown expects. I hope he is going to do the same thing with my research paper.
Loved the class! Helped me realize that disability culture is here and thriving. Also helped me to recognize my own outlooks on the culture and understand disability issues clearer. Overall great class! Glad is took it!
Very knowledgable teacher.
This class was a very informative class and I really enjoyed taking this course. It really helps to have the instructor be very knowledgeable in the subject area and also have personal experience within the subject.

18. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I don't have any suggestion, but I did feel a bit disconnected from my classmates. This is a gripe I have with every online course... The weekly discussions in the forums are great, but there isn't any sort of personal connection beyond week one introductory posts... Maybe a collaborative assignment of some sort to ensure direct contact between students? It's so tough to work in some sort of student to student engagement in an online environment...

21. What did you like most about your online course experience?
The weekly forum discussions were always engaging. Each week there was always at least one thread, if not several, through which I learned something about disabilities and disabilities studies through my peers. When Steve contributed to threads, it was always poignant and, most often, included additional reading that helped bolster the conversation.
22. What did you like least about your online course experience?
As mentioned above, I felt a bit separated from my classmates. It's the nature of online courses.
23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The subject matter. The weekly readings were enjoyable and considerably boosted my knowledge of disability studies. I also loved the layout of the course with a detailed syllabus and fantastic grading rubrics for each assignment.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
No survey responses were found.
25. Other comments:
Thank you, Steve, for a fantastic course. It was more than I could have asked for, and I'm already using a lot of the information we've gone over in this course in other classes I'm taking.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Have less reading material for the forums.
More Feedback to students.
I think online courses are innately more challenging to teach due to the fact that we don't gather as a class to discuss information and for the instructor to be able to have regular, mandated set times to meet with students-- online professors are working with students from different parts of the country and world. I would suggest maybe group work?? The discussion posts were useful in that it brought us all together as a class to discuss. Perhaps group work on a part of disability studies or history would force us to master an area, prepare discussion questions for the class, etc. Just throwing things out there. Maybe even a discussion leader every week posting questions, and required to respond back to answers and to just lead overall discussion trajectory.
No comment. The course was very good. All materials presented were excellent in giving the student a thorough understanding of the topic.
have clearer directions for assignments in the syllabus

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?
The communication was still there.
The communication through the discussion board.
I get to communicate with other students and respond back to their comments.
Other students engaged in conversation, more than just with the required discussion post(s).
I really liked the discussion board forums. I think a lot of personal accounts were shared in connection to the material that we were studying at the time. This type of accounts help foster a more complete understanding of the material, as it is applied to our lives and made more meaningful and personally connected. I really liked how we were required to respond to two people by Thursday and then two more responses by Sunday. This forced us to consistently (throughout the week) reflect on the readings and contribute to the formation of ideas.
Very good knowledge. I feel the class has given me a better understanding of disabilities and covered a range of topics. Very greatful for taking this course. Because it is a distance course I think we were required to read more than if we attended a course on campus. It's like self study and I was able to apply my thoughts more openly being it was online. In addition, I think the online courses provides more student feedback versus classroom type setting where people tend to be more hesitant or sometimes self critizing thus prevents them from sharing.
The ability to learn the material without attending a class
23. What did you like least about your online course experience?
It was sometimes hard to figure out when things were actually due, specifically the online discussion posts.
I think what you lose in an online course is the personal connection you make with fellow classmates and the camaraderie that you can develop. I think online asynchronous classes are great because it allows for those in other time zones, and those that work full-time jobs to take the course-- makes it accessible in that way... yet at the same time, you lose the contact with classmates. I guess to summarize, I miss the contact (face to face) with fellow classmates. My EDEP program was only in-class and it allowed me to make friends that lasted to present day. Colleagues in the same area that I feel comfortable going to for different advice. As a whole, though, I really appreciate the online format. i wouldn't be able to work a full-time job and take a course had it been synchronous online course and/or in-person.
I strongly suggest eliminating the Laulima responses and postings from going to the email. In addition to all of the postings on Laulima, the responses are automatically filtered to the students email. With 3 online coures I received well over 600 emails from Laulima responses. I don't see the necessity. If the student is working in the Laulima course then all materials (back and forth communication) should remain exclusive to the Laulima course.
Chatting about course material in discussions
24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Being able to express myself
The discussion because it helped me a lot with my career.
Most of the reading and videos used throughout the course, and hearing the opinions of my fellow students.
I really liked being able to choose a topic of interest to conduct research on. If I had my topic secured early on, I could have chosen a book for the book review that related to my final paper. this would have probably helped me a great deal. I actually really liked both subjects and found that it forced us not to rely on the readings and course material to learn, but to explore through other resources we find.
Because I live in Waianae I did not have to travel to UH. This is a great help. And, I think I got the good information if not better through doing the course online.
NA
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
The synchronous sessions because it was hard to fit into the rest of my schedule.
I don't really know.
Too much postings being filtered to UH email from Laulima.

I liked how Steven showed me a different world through disability culture that I knew very little about until now.
Thank you Professor Brown I really liked this class a lot because I get to communicate with other Special Education Teachers and they helped me to understand more about students with special needs. Again thank you Professor.
Excellent course. Excellent information. Excellent self study for students serious students. I work full time and participated in 3 online courses and traveled to KCC twice a week for ASL and live in Waianae. It was very challenging. I think it would have been easier if UH offered ASL on other campuses and not only KCC.

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?
I liked having time to read and process the materials independently, and then to form specific questions. I liked having the freedom to respond to questions posed by fellow students that I found particularly engaging.
23. What did you like least about your online course experience?
I'm not sure I would register for a mixed course again (graduate and undergraduate) in an online format. A face to face class may have been different, but communicating in writing with students who were participating in their first disability studies course was frustrating. But, perhaps, I'm just a grumpy graduate student. Maybe an additional synchronous session during the semester would be possible in the future?
24. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The weekly readings were excellent. I also enjoyed the "multi-media" aspects, watching videos with a critical eye to disability content.
25. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
The graduate specific readings were very dry and theoretical. Even with a deep interest in the content, I found them difficult to get through. Again, in a face to face context, it might have been different.
26. Other comments:
Would there be a way in the future in a mixed course for graduate students to either meet synchronously with the professor (i.e. a graduate specific discussion) or to have a chance to use a separate forum some weeks (again, graduate specific)? I know that both undergraduates and graduate students need to hear aspects of each others' discussions, but frankly, I found the spelling/grammatical errors, sentence fragments, etc. of the undergraduates to be distracting from the content. I refrained from comment during the course because I didn't know if some students were using disability accommodations. Again, a synchronous discussion where we can hear each other and develop a conversation aloud might be helpful. Thank you so much for your work, Steve!
