13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Austin is very good at explaining difficult concepts. He is able to provide concrete examples for all the content he introduces.
He actively recognizes areas in math where students need the most help or most struggle with and he works to make the material more clear.
Extremely knowledgeable Explains very well Very patient Warm and friendly Organized Good worksheets
Austin Anderson explains the material in a way that is clear and understandable. I like how he gives us practice worksheets to practice doing the problems, it helps for when we have to take the test.
His major strengths as a teacher would be that he knows the material, made a good learning environment, always warned the students of the upcoming assignments or exams. He was also very understanding and ifna student missed class he was easy to reach out side of class.
Professor Anderson would explained the difficult problems from the test or homework to help students clearly understood on the chapter. He would also go over the test and explained how to do it.
He's fun and easy going
He's a good listener, and he answers questions that students ask in a way that usually helps the students asking questions understand better.
Austin Anderson's greatest ability is to sympathize with his students and teach math (which is a very difficult subject in the first place) in a great understandable way that shows he really cares about his students. He teaches fairly, and always prepares us for the tests. He doesn't have unreasonable expectations, always keeping us students on top of the material. He doesn't throw unexpected curveballs at us (which always made math more stressful with other teachers)
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
I really like this math teacher . In my opinion he is one of the best that I have taken so far. If he were to teach math 140 I would sign up for his class.
I suggest that it will less homework to do on this course.
I don't have any problems with the ways that he runs his class, because he's able to go threw the whole course without having to cut some subjects short.
None because his class was amazing!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Austin is always ready to help a student in need.
He always makes sure everyone gets the material. He provides many different examples, often improvising on the spot to answer a student's question.
Always had time for questions Very approachable and kind Very patient Accommodated disabled students
He shows concern for students by explaining how to solve problems that students don't understand and even helping students during office hours and after class if they still don't understand the material. He encourages students to ask questions if they need to.
Reviews the chapter before the exam to know if anyone has any questions that he could answer.
He would help students in class time and office hour. Also, he has a review quiz or classwork before the exam.
He encouraged us to ask questions and didn't make anyone feel dumb or unimportant.
He answers questions in a manner that help students who don't understand at first, get it the second time around.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I would recommend Austin to any math student. His teaching style is encouraging to students, and he is a helpful teacher.
Yes, he is a skilled teacher of a difficult subject to teach.
Absolutely. Very good teacher and very nice person.
Yes i would recommend him to students because i think he's a great teacher. I learned a lot from him and his lectures make sense. He explains how to do the problem and he will answer students questions if they don't understand the problem.
I would definitely recommended him to my friends because he is an excellent I instructor.
I recommend professor Anderson to the students who have a lot time working on homework and study for the test.
Yes because I think he's a great math teacher and he makes math fun
I highly recommend Prof. Anderson, he is personally my favorite college math teacher so far.
I would always recommend him for an amazing teacher who teaches the subject well.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He also has a sense of humor which makes something like math just a bit more tolerable.
Thank you Austin for everything.
He has great math puns.
If the class could be slow down a little, it will be the best
He a nice, likable, student friendly kind of guy.
Keep at it! You're amazing, and I'm soo thankful I took your class. I would always make the extra effort to take your class, despite KCC not being my home institution.

15. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
he is a very personable and approachable guy. he is very educated and knows his material well. he was compassionate, and was willing to take the time to help us understand complex topics if we needed it.
he explains so good and he has a lot of patience
math
His knowledge of the subject and his attitude was superb.
He has extensive knowledge with Calculus, as well as very nice teacher. He makes the class fun, which encourages students to attend the class.
Major strengths that professor Anderson performed were the way he went over homework problems by thoroughly going over a problem step by step explaining it until we students understands the problems. He would also go over a review on what will be on quiz and exams that way we are prepared although the questions that are on the quizzes or exam are different from what he goes over in the review.
He knows the information and makes himself available whenever need be.
He knows the subject well and very relaxed compared to other teachers.
He truly cares about whether or not we do well in the class. He never has a pretentious attitude or treats us like we are less intelligent just because we're students
Was a very active person is the learning process.
I would probably say his in-depth knowledge of mathematics.
16. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None at all, if there was any change, he should be paid more and all other math teachers should teach more like him. He should also teach all calculus classes, 1-4!
none
none
Liven up the class with some activities for the students to do related to the material. Bring food to share with the class to keep them attentive and awake. LOL!!
His lectures are not very clear, his examples does not give enough detailed information to proceed with the homework. We all know he is very smart, but somehow he has a hard time explaining things. It doesn't help that the book is hard to understand, so an alternative source of info must be used such as youtube, and other math sites.
Not many changes that i would suggest but it would be good to have more examples to go over in class because the book have some ridiculous problems.
Go over more examples in class on how to do some of the harder examples and go through each step by step.
Please carry out all of the algebra. I know it's long and painstaking but nothing is more frustrating than trying to learn something new, getting a wrong answer, and then just realizing it's the algebra
None
Probably none.
17. How did the instructor show concern for students?
i had a lot of personal emergencies this semester. he was more than accommodating through all of them. my mother broke her ankle, so i had to miss somme classes because of this, i was involved in a major car accident, my girl friend and i had to go through an emotional rollercoaster via an abortion, and Mr. Anderson was able to help accomodate my intense schedule, unlike Don Voyce, who's class i had to take a W, wasting both my money and time.
office hours, plus sessions, email fast response
yes he did care about his students
He was very good at helping his students in class as well as out of class in his office hours. He would even allow students to visit him and ask him questions after his office hours until he left school for the day. Very helpful.
He tried his best to answer every question. He always ask student if they are understood.
He is readily available for students. He answers questions right away.
His concerns are by having reviews before the exams, warning us students when we will be having an exam. He made sure that we understand a problem before moving on.
Plenty of extra credit and office hours.
He was always willing to work with students who missed class and/or his availability outside of class
He is very good about office hours and plus sessions.
He's always available outside of class for office hours and his class offers a plus session to help with his lectures.
18. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Mr. Anderson encourages us to take the red pill and get thorough understanding of the material we studied. he was available, he had plus sessions, and he had extra credit (albeit it being impossibly difficult). most importantly of all, he was a man of good character. this is, imo the i most important quality to be found in professors. it is very reassuring to have professors in school who are there to help you succeed. in life post college (as i have experienced), those people become few and far between.
yes, because if you don't like math and you need to go up to calc 2 or 1, he will make you like math. he is gonna make calculus easier to understand
yes. he really is easy
Of course, he knew the subject really well, had a positive attitude, very lenient on students, very helpful with questions/concerns and made a difficult subject not so difficult to understand.
yes, he is a good teacher. He made the class interesting.
Yes. He is very nice, and overall a good teacher. I think because he is still new that his work is not refined.
Yeah i would because he does get the information across and makes it a stress free enviornment.
Yes
Yes
Yes, among the upper division math professor I think he is the best.
Yes I would. He helps his students prepare for the exams and uses real world examples of calculus in action.
19. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
thanks for being awesome! jane was awesome too!
thanks for been again my teacher !! ;)
none
Had an awesome semester in your class. Loved the plus sessions with Jane, she was the best, give her a raise. LOL!! Have a "HOT" summer and hope to make it into your class this fall.
Thank you, have a great summer!
He is a kind person who always tries to help students when he can.
Best upper math division teacher. Easy to understand.
20. Other comments:

Give Mr. a raise and create plus sessions for every subject in this school, because they were the most helpful things throughout this entire semester. Push for mandatory plus sessions, because they help a lot more then the class lectures most times!!
Nah
I enjoyed his class and it was the perfect pace.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Professor Anderson's major strength as a teacher is his enthusiasm in the subject. Normally math is a VERY DRY subject. This is one of the few math classes I haven't lost my mind in.
He's very knowledgeable, patient, and very approachable.
Engaging during lecture. Encourages students to work the problems as he covers them on the board
He will accept his mistakes and even figure it out on his own time and email everyone with the solution instead of being like forget it and move on. Anderson gives lots of examples and he knows his stuff and will even amaze himself with a WOW moment! Overall, cool and good teacher!
He was like a machine. Set the schedule and plowed through the material. We hit everything that he laid out from the beginning. Quiz feedback was really nice. It let me know how well I knew the material. Also prepared me for tests. He did enough problems in class to provide students with the tools to dive into the homework. His cool easy bohemian ways made the mood light and easy and encouraging. Patience, he put up with my heckling and commentary for a whole year; man has some tolerance for us lesser mortals. Solved the hard problems. Would always provide us with a solution even when the answer guide provided some cryptic solution Anderson was there to show us the tricks and shortcuts. He relates really well to the students.
He is very understanding with the students.
The atmosphere in the classroom was comfortable and encouraging. He encouraged students to ask about things they were not clear about. He did several examples of every topic. he was understanding of issues that prevented turning in homework late sometimes
Very good at helping students understand material.
Mr. Anderson know what problems students may have when they do the homework. And he will teach student how to solve problems step by step.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Explain what the integrals are supposed to be used for. Have more example problems that aren't from the homework.
I would suggest nothing because there isn't anything to fix.... besides his jokes! Jkjk there were many funny ones along with silent ones ! Lol
Provide formula sheets!!!
Nothing, he is doing a good job.
Although the material was presented well. It would have been nice to review past concepts that we should be familiar with, even if it's been several years since we took the previous calculus classes. I found myself lost sometimes and had to review calc 1 and 2 material to understand the current topics. Although this is not required, it would have been nice for me
I think there should be more class activities which relate to math.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Professor Anderson sent out emails concerning difficult problems during class, which held proofs on why a question couldn't be worked out. He also encouraged his office hours every class to ensure that his door is always open if there were any type of problem that would occur.
Office hours and knew each students strengths/weaknesses
He always will take the time and try to find the best way to explain a solution for the students problem/question! He has an approachable aura!
Was always open to our opinions and always available to office hours. We talked Math outside of the topics, and he always encouraged me to do more and pursue higher math. He is a friend. Bottom line, he was there.
If we missed a homework assignment or we missed a class, he would always let us turn in the assignment later and he would gladly inform us on what we missed.
he seemed concerned if students understood or not, and was available for after class explanations
Anderson makes himself available for students and encourage lots of questions.
Mr. Anderson can help students solve the problems they have, and willing to answer student's question.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend Professor Anderson to students, if and only if they're as enthusiastic as he is with math, and have the patience to actually learn the material. As previously stated, this is one math class you probably won't sleep in.
Yes I would recommend him because he knows his stuff, he does great examples, always willing to help, and a funny and cool personality!
Yes, for the reasons stated above.
Yes, funny guy and he makes math interesting.
yes. The atmosphere was conducive for learning
Yes
Yes, Calculus is a very difficult class. Mr. Anderson can teach the students how to do well in this class.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you
Mr.Anderson, you are cool and one of the best math teachers I hand and you are a cool guy with your jokes and WOW moments! You should teach math307 at manoa and I'll take it for sure !
Don't let his laid back bohemian style get you; hes a math poet.
Keep it up man! I enjoyed having you as my professor.
18. Other comments:
Party hard over the summer Mr.Anderson and work on them jokes! You may have a WOW moment in doing so! Lol
Aloha, -Haq P.S. Never forget Haq's Law 1)If a problem takes more than 3 minutes to solve, skip it move on to the next one. 2)If its multiple choice; try guessing the answer. 3)If in total doubt, draw a slash through the problem. (AKA the slash method.)

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Explains things that are hard to understand, easy to talk too. And isn't so mean on the grading.
he is very clear and thorough in his explanations of mathematical concepts and reviews them alot
He is fair with the students and teaches from a student point of view. He understands that math is not learned the first time taught. So he reviews over and over until we understood the material.
He is tries to be funny. He always gives an example to answer a students question to make sure they understand.
he explained lectures with detail informations.
Very approachable and is very knowledgeable in the subject
He explains the material to students in a way that can keep them intrigued and also helps the student better understand the material.
He is BRILLIANT! He knows math so well, it's irritating. His passion for math makes the subject fun to learn. He always looks happy when he teaches and makes lame jokes that relate. He is also very easy to understand from, his teaching style is very good. And he always stays after class to help any of us that need it.
He understands his material to such an extent that he can explain it to others in a way that anyone could understand it. He is very helpful and funny so its keeps the students awake.
Even his class was flexible and going so fast, he explain each math material properly and helped out students when they have a questions and stuff.
Strenghts would be his flexability to compromise with students if they were struggling.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Nothing!
None
I would spread out quiz take home sheets so that it gives the students enough time to finish them and the homework. Taking other courses into consideration and knowing how difficult it is to stay organized can be hard. Maybe have the homeworks due on the same days of the week?
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Helped students by answering back emails and answering questions as best as he could.
Available through out the day. Understands and is fair about everything he does.
He replies on emails on time
Always mentioning when he had office hours for students who needed help/tutoring outside of class
He always stays after class to help if we have questions or need extra time on quizzes/tests. He also is available through email which helps as a student.
He showed concern by giving office hours and also giving students the option of either doing homework on paper or online for those who prefer one over the other. He also offers the little time he has before the next class to help students with any questions they have.
He explain a lot easy way to understand math, and also he brought a quiz that might help out our studies. He take a time to explain problems even the class is over.
Spoke to students or at least, shown or notices our quality of our exams.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend Austin Anderson to other students because he's a really nice teacher and he isn't so hard on the grading. But attandance is important for class be ashes most of the lectures are about the homework.
he addressed each students concern and explained them in a way that they could understand
YES, by far the best math teacher I've ever had
I would recommend Austin to students because he is very clear when he teach
Yes. Anderson always answer the question from students and always tried to help students.
Yes, I would recommend him to students because he takes interest in being there for his students. His office hours are very flexible unlike other courses.
Of course! He is one of the best math professors/ professor in general that I've had. He has a great attitude toward the subject and toward his students that it makes learning easy and fun.
Yes i would recommend anderson because he is a very helpful teacher and makes sure his students understand the material well enough to perform it on homeworks and tests. You will learn al lot in his classes.
Yes, his lecture is really clear and understandable. He cares about each students too.
Yes, he class is well thought out and he shows acceptance of many questions.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
That he's a very cool teacher! Very easy to talk too!
Thanks again, I failed 103 the first time taking it due to a poor professor. I was just shy of an A this semester. Goes to show that the student reflects the teacher.
Very nice guy and friendly. ALWAYS encourages students to answer
I enjoy that he has a website with all his due dates and scheduled curriculum. Austin Anderson is a kind teacher that cares for his students.
He is one of my favorites!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is a math genius that empathizes and gets to heart of learning
I think he is always polite and gentle, and try to make students understand.
He teaches very clearly, is very fair, and available to help.
High-level math is an extremely difficult subject that can almost certainly suck out your soul. Despite this, Anderson consistently knew the class was in for the long haul, and was always willing to help his students. He even set up PLUS sessions, Peer-Lead unit study, for students who had an extra difficult time with the material. He tried his hardest to make sure his students would understand the material, and that effort bloody well paid off. Anderson also has a hella sense of humor, an important trait for mathematicians to keep their souls.
His ability to hold a students attention during lecture
Austin Anderson was one of the best teachers I've had thus far, he's super nice and laid back, but wants you to learn this Math. You can tell he really enjoys his subject matter, and is really amazed by the power of math, and wants us to be also! He tries to demonstrate examples that will "wow" us and spends much of the class time going over tough homework problems to help us out, yet still makes it through the course material without falling behind. He obviously knows what he's doing and how to run a class, while also being very laid back and easy for students to approach. He's always in his office during office hours, and provides a plus session for those who need extra help, and gives extra credit for it. His test questions are very similar to homework and quiz questions, and has a lot of open-book/group quizzes, so we can work together to figure something tough out; as well as closed-book quizzes to test us. Calculus is not easy, but Austin does a better job than most I presume at teaching this difficult material!
He knows all his fields. He is good in teaching how to solve the question and telling us what is correct and is wrong.
Explains Math very well
Very smart, helpful, encouraging. Will do what it takes to make you pass.
His creativity when it comes to explaining concepts.
He helps you whenever you need help and he is easy to talk too.
He is very good teacher that really cares for his students success in class.
Great teacher. He is clear and thorough in his explanations and is a fair grader.
He is an awesome teacher, he has strong skills of leadership with good sense of humor. Very fair towards students, very flexible with make up quizzes and test. I would take his class again, fun and friendly atmosphere .
Subject knowledge, presented in an understandable way.
- Explains things really well and clearly - Conveys how deep and beautiful math is - Provides many opportunities for extra credit - Homework and quizzes prepare us well for exams - Really good Plus Session TA - Spontaneous, awkward jokes were hilarious and added charm
He doesnt show it off but he is so smart. Andin class he makes you think what to do on a problem, after that he explain us the solution
Austin present's the material well enough for the class to understand. He definitely doesn't teach by the book, but he relates the books concepts to the way he teaches it, which is quite enjoyable and a better way I can understand.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Nothing.
None. Anderson would rank among the best teachers I've ever had. Probably the best if his subject wasn't so difficult for me.
Maybe slow down the lecture in order to offer students clarity.also do more examples of questions in stead of just a couplets questions.
I can't think of too much for Austin to change to make his class better. It's all G!
Attendance sheet should have been given in every class.
Update grade book more frequently
Being more interactive with students.
None :)
All the work is all new to me and I need to study alot but thats just the class. Theres nothing to really change, theres alot of homework compared to the other math classes.
no changes
Faster communication through emails and faster grading would be appreciated.
nothing
None. Keep doing what you're doing.
none
none
No changes are needed.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Austin always made himself available for questions, dedicated class time to answering questions and working out specific problems with students, and gives everyone a fair shot at preparing for exams.
Actually, I don't know about that because he always conserved each students' privacy and score, and I think he didn't have any concern to me.
He was very available by email and in his office, as well as before and after class.
How did he not? He would always set up appointments, office hours, and PLUS sessions for struggling students. He would also occasionally waive late penalties to students he knew were really trying.
He would hold regular office hours after class.
He would be at his office hours, he would answer questions before and after class, do plenty of freebie homework questions to help us out on difficult homeworks, put up plenty of examples, have plus sessions and a few extra credit opportunities, and just wanted to spread his love for math to all of us =)
By helping every time help is needed
Made sure we understood the concepts and allowed great time to answer questions.
He puts in the Plus section and go through the homework problems.
He is always open to homework questions and he answers them in class this helps us alot.
He would provide PLUS sessions for the class to attend when needed help. Asks the class if they needed help on any of the homework assignments at the beginning of class.
Willing to help students. Takes the time to explain hard topics.
always engage us in participation, outside class hours, plus session never missed his lecture
Loads of help on homework and work sheets.
- Although it took a while to get graded material back, it showed that he spent a lot of time looking over our work and making sure that we were doing things right. - Saves a generous portion of class time for homework questions, during which he goes over the problems step-by-step, but without giving away the answer. - Gives a lot of practice worksheets - A lot of office hours
office hours, plus session
Austin offered his office hours opened to anybody that needed help and he was always available. He also included PLUS sessions, which were these little tutoring sessions to help students with homework and it helped prepare students for any upcoming exam or quiz.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, already done! He's just very knowledgable and shows more concern in making sure that everyone is on the same page.
Of course! He is always kind, so if the students will register to his class, they will be satisfied.
Absolutely. Clear and effective teaching, helpful and fair.
I would not recommend students take Calculus :P But on a serious note, if they had to, I cannot think of any way Anderson could have done better.
Yes I would he is an interesting teacher and a good attention holder.
Yes, he is an ideal math teacher for anybody at any level. Not always the easiest material to follow, it is math, but he makes it quite tolerable, and is there to help.
yes because he is a good teacher
Yes because he is straight to the point and easy to approach.
YES!!!
Yes, he is very straight forward and rarely gives you curve balls during the test.
Yes, overall he provides a good atmosphere for the class and him not being strict also helps me relax in class.
Yes, definitely. In my opinion, he is the best math teacher at Kapiolani Community College.
Surely I would
Yes. Great teacher for beginning calculus.
Absolutely--he's a nice guy, unpretentious, brilliant, and funny. I was very scared to take Calculus for the first time, but because of how he taught it, it turned out not to be so bad--in fact, it was often satisfying to do homework.
yes because he teaches calculus with fun!
Yes because for one his standards as a teacher are set pretty high. He knows the material to the point where he knows how to explain it to students, such as myself. He also shows that he really does enjoy the subject and he really cares for his students to succeed.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

nothing
Tenure him. Now.
He is an overall great teacher.
He's and overall good guy =)
Nothing.
nothing much
Thank you
Great job teaching.
good personality, friendly and always welcome to help his students
Thank you for your teaching!
I never liked math because I had terrible teachers all this semesters at KCC,and I thought that I was going to die with calculus but actually after I met Austin, he made me like calculus more.
He's a great teacher, funny guy, and someone that really cares for their students unlike some teachers out there.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Anderson was always available to help. It was extremely helpful that he had multiple office hours on different days. I never had to worry about not being able to come in if I had questions/concerns. I also liked that he enforced as much homework as he did. I learn math by actually *doing* math and the homework, as long as they were, ensured that I really learned the material thoroughly. I also liked that he allowed limited notes on the exams instead of making us mindlessly memorize formulas.
Knows the material.
I can tell he enjoys his profession as a math teacher because he is enthusiastic about his work. He will always try to finish up a problem and if he can't at the moment he will get back to it the next lecture. He is a fair teacher and grade.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I think to do the lectures more conceptually and less homework problems. I think the more problems there are the more focus of having the homework done tends to happen than getting the concepts gets in the way. I think more review at the end of week would help.
Perhaps to plan example problems presented in class in advance. I felt we spent a lot of time figuring out why we didn't get the right answer, which, in a way is good, but also very confusing. Some times I left class more confused than when I arrived.
Encourage more class participation
I suggest lessen up the amount of homework problems just by a couple but overall nothing should be changed because his way of teaching is effective.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He was always there to help, encouraged questions and interaction in class, and was also available outside of class via email and office hours.
Gave extra time to do quizzes when we weren't prepared for them.
He would get back to you on a problem the next time with even clear instructions and procedures on how to solve the problem. He wouldn't give a ridiculous type of problem. All his work and problems are reasonable and challenging.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, his expectations are clear and his schedule for learning the material isn't too aggressive/fast paced. He has set up his class for you to learn the material thoroughly.
Yes and no. This was his first time teaching Math 231 so it's understandable he wasn't the best at teaching the material. Other than that good teacher!
Yes I would recommend other students to him because he is very knowledgeable in his field and he teaches you in ways that is understandable and easy to get. His work load and quizzes prepare you for the exam.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
His math related to physics applications could be stronger. It seemed like some of what we were presented conflicted somewhat with what I had previously learned in PHYS 170 and 270.
Keep up the good work and more extra credit problems please!
Mr.Anderson is very cool and understanding. Feels like he is one of the students!

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He offered help on homework questions that students didn't understand.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I would recommend Mr. Anderson to students because he is a good teacher and seems to really care about his students.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Makes coming to class fun, he is always upbeat and seems to genuinely enjoy teaching math.
Very helpful and utilizes different teaching styles
Helping students to understand the work that they need to do. Explains things well. Outside access as well.
Understanding the material and personal techniques used for students to understand the material further than what is presented in our textbooks.
very good. lectures are well-organized and clear, very easy to follow and understand.
Very good at presenting the material in a clear concise way making it easy to understand
He's fair, flexible, knowledgable, able to adapt to the students learning style.
He knew a lot about the course he was teaching and helped students that needed assistance.
He is a mathematician. He tries to answer all of his students questions.
His teaching are clear and easy understanding which makes me not to be confused in the materials.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
A better push to ask students, to question the material, right after he finishes an equation. I find that asking the students "do you guys get that" is a good push to encourage questioning, but I think that can need some work to encourage questioning even further.
wear more professional attire
Respond to emails quicker.
No changes.
before an exam we do a review but that review does not cover all of the lessons we learned in that chapter. we only do 2-3 questions which was not enough for me to pass the exam. we should have an extra credit :)
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
always willing to help students in class and out of class
He showed concearns for his students by explaining things over again until the students understand it. And he wasn't too lean on grading the the test and exams.
He would personally ask the student face to face of their concern. His patience to help the student after class of a question. He would explain the question of the concern student more than what is needed. I think that's a good quality, just in case the question was not fulfilled. He would email students and reply promptly too.
a very nice teacher, will help students according to everyone's particular needs.
By answering all their questions
After explaining my situation he was able to accommodate me of which I was extremely greatful for.
He would offer help to people that received low scores on tests and assignments.
he stayed after class to answer our questions
He helped the students how had any questions carefully.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, he is very helpful and class is well-organized
Yes, i would recommended him to other students b/c he teaches the class well. And this class went by really fast!
I would because his teachings are not boring. I can hear his voice while he lectures. Easily Accessible to talk to him face to face in his office for any concerns and questions.
definitely yes.
Yes. He is an excellent teacher.
I would recommend Austin because he is easy going, knowledgeable in his field, desires his students to succeed, always prompt and at school.
I would recommend him to students because he made the material easy to understand and he is an entertaining teacher.
yes because he is a great teacher!
I will recommend him because his teaching is really good. His class is good organized, clear, and the homework and quiz also made me to understand the material deeply.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Hes a very awesome teacher!!!!!
I enjoy his mood during class. I don't feel as pressured from his expectations, but encourages to do our best. He's flexible with circumstances about reasonable excuse and understanding to boot.
He takes what the staff development workshops and science teachers suggest to math teachers and implements their suggestions and concerns in class.
He is a great teacher.
he makes math a little bit fun by making corny jokes sometimes or sometimes he try so hard to be funny that it should not be funny but it is! haha :)
18. Other comments:
None.
I enjoy his class and would like to register for math 140 class too.
a really good teacher.
Thank you for making math a better experience for me as math is not an easy subject for me.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Anderson is an awesome teacher. He is brilliant, and enthusiastic about teaching math. Never has he allowed any type of personal troubles or conflicts influence the delivery of his lectures. Always keeps it professional.. Always keeps his cool.
Love for math, relates well with students, wants students to succeed.
Austin Anderson's strengths are learning how to give us examples and explain the subject well when someone asks a question. I like how when we have a worksheet he doesn't give us the correct or wrong answer he makes us communicate with other classmate and do it together.
Very helpful
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None! Excellent professor!
None
I would suggest that he does a recap for every class the next day so that it can refresh our memory for the lesson he is going to teach.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Prof. Anderson ALWAYS answered the questions he was asked, and to the best of his ability (no half- ass answers, ya know?) He always stayed several minutes after class to answer any other questions. Frequently reminded us about his office hours in case we needed help outside of class. Prompt replies to email.
Made accommodations
He asked us in class if we have any questions about what he just taught and he asks us to stay after class if we have any further questions that we are not familiar with.
Always willing to help students out. Very personable
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I already do recommend him to other students because I know he is capable of teaching students math in a way that can be understood.
Yes because he wants students to learn and succeed, fair, knowledgeable and is willing to help.
I would because he explained the course very well and efficiently.
Yes, always helpful
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Austin Anderson needs to teach 140 in the Fall..!! He also deserves a raise! Excellent Excellent dudee.
Thank you! I may end up furthering my math classes because of the wonderful experience I had taking two accelerated classes with him and overcame my fears of math.
He is a great teacher.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
more extra credit on tests
None
If he can be little more organize and little more prompt to grading papers, it will be appreciated.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes
Yes! Grades fairly Offers help Makes sure everyone's on the same page Knows how to filter material Knows how to teach what needs to be known instead of just blasting students with ridiculously hard questions; he is more concerned with students understanding concepts
Yes. I think he's a very good choice for those who truly wanna learn the subject matter.
Yes, had fun. Trying to have students participate in class was fun.
yes, he is a great teacher because whatever he lectures in class will be on the exam.

Very easy to understand and learn from
18. Other comments:
He made love math again! Denis Perusse made me hate math. Austin was clear about course objectives, unlike Dennis.
Tahina, the "PLUS" tutor for the class, was very helpful. The class was relatively easy, but it might be good to cover some more advanced material in case students wish to transfer to UH after Calc I.

Thank you. enjoyed your class and had fun.
Thanks for offering extra credit, Anderson! It helps a lot! Also, I think the group game that we play before taking the test is helpful and challenging! Thanks for the expired noodle! Haha I am just kidding :) Have a good summer and thanks for all the lectures and the help!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He made the class interesting.
gives lots of examples and many examples similar to our homework
As a teacher, Prof. Anderson's major strengths tend to be that he is willing to prepare available resources (himself and his webpage specifically)in order to help his students succeed. He also gives out a much needed break in class in order for his students to get their bearings before the second half of the lecture. In this way, his strengths tend toward getting us to absorb the information as best as possible while allowing time outside of class for questions concerning the homework.
Good atmosphere, easy to understand.
Explains well and encourages students.
I was actually suprised how well behaved the class was and suspect it had much to do with the timeframe. However, it may have been that Austin is a self effacing teacher that presented a non- threatening atmosphere to the students. As it was the class was very conducive to learning.
good example
He offers an atmospere where student's feel relaxed. He takes the time to explain concepts that are not clearly understood.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
One possible change that I have to Prof. Anderson is if his webpage URL was put on the board for the entire summer course so that people will know. This is pretty minor in and of itself since most people can just visit him during office hours to get their questions answered up front.
Maybe not too many. Although I do believe that he could be more demanding of us students.
no
He could be a little more organized with his lectures. This was a summer class, and there was alot of materials to get through. I would also suggest that there is a limit to how long individual students take up class time with their homework questions.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He had office hours after his class and he constantly told us about his office hours and where he would be at certain times of the day.
Encouraged us to use his office hours.
Prof. Anderson shows concern for his students through his break time sessions and for going over some tough quiz questions to help us prepare for the next one. The five minute break sessions are there for when we need time to do an in-class worksheet or to just simply take a break so that we would be refreshed for the second half of the day's lesson. Him going over quiz questions allows us to understand our mistakes so we don't repeat them on the next major quiz or test. He wants us to succeed and he has the strategies for it.
He always made sure all students questions were answered. Always available for help.
He made himself available to discuss discrepancies with our homework tool, namely MyMathLab, which can be somewhat challenging.
write on white board with explain
He is always willing to help his students and wants them to learn the material. His lectures are interesting and he give practical applications for the math being taught.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. He is a great teacher. He allows us to work with each other to figure out problems, so we would know what we did wrong and what other ideas other students had to solve the problems.
Yes, he was able to explain lots of concepts so I could understand. He was very helpful
I would definitely recommend Prof. Anderson to other students because unlike other Math 140 professors in the main branch of UH (the Manoa branch), he actually makes his lessons easy to understand and does so in a timely manner. His class is also relatively easy to pass so if someone has trouble passing Math 140 at UH Manoa, they can go to him in order to get similar results for half the costs. That and the fact that he is made easily available after class for questions makes students feel comfortable knowing that there is help.
I recommend his class to my friends.
Yes. Everything is broken down and taught so the students can apply the concepts to real life.
Yes. He is pretty calm and does not appear to get flustered with us when we didn't understand the work.
yes. i could learn a lot of things from him
I would definitely recommend him to other students. He is a gifted teeacher and makes everyone feel welcome in his class.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Prof. Anderson pretty much summarizes what most students should see in a reasonable math teacher. The fact that he teaches at a community college makes him more valuable since going to his class costs less than if someone was to attend class at UH Manoa like I did. An overall great teacher to finish your Math 140 course, especially over the summer.
18. Other comments:
I have had him for two classes. This summer term, he seemed a bit preoccupied when teaching. He made a few mistakes when putting problems up on the board. He had to constantly correct himself and mention that he made a mistake. This is the first time that he has been a bit "flighty" for a class.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mr. Anderson is a very knowledgeable teacher. He does a great job at explaining the objective of the subject matter and thoroughly explains reasonings to why things need to be done. He also does numerous examples of the section.
Austin Anderson provided the students with many opportunities to be successful in class. He answered many questions with considerable intelligence and allowed the students to make sure that they understand the material that is being covered. Generally, Professor Anderson showed his willingness to help out any student who might have trouble with any problems and he explains the ways to solve them in the most concise way. Another important benefit that I have with him as my instructor is the ability to communicate with other students and get them to participate in the class activities. The lesson plans that he brings to class daily really works out well for many students because they are hands-on approaches that essentially help out with every situation. On some days, the main activity might be a lecture and some others might involve a worksheet that covers the concepts which are going to be on the homework assignment. But the major point is that the activity provides a better picture of what is being demonstrated within the section.
He was able to translate techniques for dealing with math problems into very understandable terms. Even with coming into the class with little to no foundation in calculus, he encouraged students to work together in order to learn easier during worksheet sessions.
always helps his students.
He's cool and smart.
He understands that Calculus can be difficult for most students and explains difficult math concepts in a way that one can understand.
he is able to communicate really welll to the students & reach out to them like no other math professor i have has been able to do. he made math fun & made me want to come to class & learn.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none.
The only change that I suggest to Austin Anderson is making sure that there are no mistakes when it comes to correcting homework and exams. Sometimes I noticed that there might be a few questions that are marked wrong even though they might be correct. So I think it would be a good idea for Professor Anderson to take his time correcting the work to minimize these errors.

none
Don't assign even number problems, its easier to learn as you go when you can check answers as you go--builds a stronger base.
none :)
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He always asked us if there is anything we do not understand. And if there is something a student does not catch on to, he explains it again in another way. He also reminds us nearly every other day that he is available for tutoring during his office hours.
Professor Anderson wants to make sure that every student understands the concepts of Calculus because there are many rules found within this level of Math that are new to many students. He does this by doing several examples that are covered and going over them after the students listen to the lecture. Occasionally, Professor Anderson gives a question to the class and they answer it with similar approaches.
He always answered any questions or concerns and even stayed pass the end of class in order to help students with any problems they may be having with homework.
always went over homework problems.
He always answers everyone's questions and gives each student his full attention when helping them.
He lets us know when he too thinks a problem is hard to do.
he always gave us time to work on assignments with him or other classmates and he made sure we understood the material. he always started the day by asking if we had any questions on previous lecture or homework assignments & was sure to address them.

yes because he teaches the material well and will give out many examples.
Yes and no. Yes because he is really a nice, funny guy and the atmosphere he creates in his class makes it a comfortable environment and you don't feel embarrassed for asking questions, and because he's smart, and you can tell he's smart... But, no because his lesson plan is kind of messy and unorganized, so if structure helps, he doesn't.
Yes, he is reasonable and fair
i would highly recommend him to anyone, math majors, or anyone else who just needs to get through a few math courses. im sure anyone would enjoy his class whether or not they like math.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Very effective teaching method. Made the class fun and very friendly to approach.
VERY approachable, and allows time for students outside of class.
Definitely tries to encourage students to see how math can be used in real life situations. Very positive attitude that makes the atmosphere of the class non-threatening and learner-friendly.
relates and breaks down material in a way that everyone can understand.
Major strengths is that he is nice and approachable, so if we were to have questions or problems, he is willing to help.
Confident Friendly Easy to talk to Knows his Math
His major strengths is that he is such a nice guy. And he knew the subject very well.
Professor Anderson has provided many strategies that has helped students with their math questions. For many sections, he would specifically talk about what equations are important to solving the problem that they are given. After every equation gets solved, he would go over the answers to make sure that everyone followed the same steps. Moreover, Professor Anderson displayed a very intelligent and relaxed approach that really helped me get through any difficulties that I might have regarding the material that was covered. When many students talked to him on some questions, he provided a complete explanation of how and why the answer turned out to be in that situation. In that case, I believed that Professor Anderson really understood many of the concerns that some people might have on the material that was being covered.
His patience, along with his want to teach in the clearest way possible
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
PLEASE ask the students questions and have us answer problems during class to encourage participation.
The book was a little hard to follow...it seemed like it might have been easier to teach the subject and the concepts using either a different book, or maybe even just the mymathlab.
Major changes in presentation. I don't know if it's because he get's nervous or if he's still inexperienced as a teacher, but the material is just so difficult to understand. More than half the time throughout this course, we hear "um" and "uh" during every lecture with awkward silences in-between and we are correcting the mistakes he writes on the board during lectures (which further confuses most of us). In the beginning of the course, he mentions that we must show our work, but he contradicts himself by not showing any work in the lectures, skipping steps, making us wonder how he gets numbers on all his problems. I spent 2/3 of the course looking at my "high school math notes" than paying attention in class, because even my notes looked more understandable than what he was teaching.
Needs more practice towards teaching, but once he does more and more, he will figure out the best way to teach
I would suggest that maybe he practices how to explain the math material before he comes to class. I could tell he really knew his stuff, there's no doubt about that. However, when it came to trying to teach the material to us, at times it was kind of confusing. I know people make mistakes, but teachers should try to make as little as possible. He made a few math mistakes which could be really confusing for us as students in the long run. Also, please make sure that when you are doing equations on the board, you do not skip any steps what so ever because it could confuse the student veryyy easily.
The only change that I suggest to Professor Anderson is to make the homework assignments on paper instead of online. I understand that online homework is a great option to have because it helps provide the step by step process in solving an equation but I think it would be better for some students to use paper in some way so that if they did not have any access to a computer, the assigned homework might be completed on time.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always stayed minutes after class to answer the load of questions students have.
Available for questions before and after class.
answering question, regardless of how confusing some of the questions seemed.he made sure that the student understood before going on.responded to emails in a timely matter.
Available after class in case we need help
He showed concern for us by telling us he's always available. A lot of the students met with him right after class though just because it was most convenient during that time.
Professor Anderson worked closely with the students to make sure that they completely understand the material. He did this by fully explaining what the approachesto take when considering each type of problem that is given. Sometimes, the strategy that I used was very familiar and on other occasions,it seemed new and difficult to understand. But Professor Anderson was able to put the questions that the students have into an interesting lesson that has inspired the entire class to intently listen and apply when completing the homework. Professor Anderson also gave extra credit to people who wanted to increase their scores on one of the exams. This really was a creative idea to help students understand some of the mistakes that they might have made during the exam and practice for the Final Exam. So I thought that Professor Anderson provided the class with opportunities that benefited the students.
Was l lenient and patient with students
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. Awesome teaching method and fun class lectures.
Yes, because he'll help any student willing to actually learn the material.
Yes;
yes, organized doesnts make the material anymore confusing than it already is.
With easier math subjects or for students who are independent learners, I would recommend this teacher. He is approachable and getting a good grade isn't entirely impossible.
Yes.
Yes, but maybe later on when he's more familiar with teaching.
Umm, I'm sorry Mr. A, you're a really nice person and super flexible and understanding, but since I'm more of a visual learner, I did not enjoy this class as much. You need to make sure that you put every single little step in there to make sure the student has an easy way to connect how you got from this problem, to this answer. Since he is not the greatest speaker, he should really work on this, and I think students would enjoy this class way more. *But when showing every single little step, keep in mind what is "duh" to us.
I would definitely recommend Professor Anderson to any student who is interested in taking any type of Math class because he possesses an intellingent mind and a relaxed personality that has been successful in teaching the students. Professor Anderson has shown his willingness and ability to work with students who might have a difficult time trying to comprehend the concepts and trying to solve them on their own. He provides excellent advice that I thought is essential to having a strong foundation in future Math classes. Furthermore, Professor Anderson has provided the class with many opportunities to get a good grade. One example of this happened when he gave an extra credit assignment that helped increase some people's test scores. I thought that it was a creative apporach that has provided benefits for many people. So I thought that Professor Anderson really listened to the students needs and made sure that everyone tried their best in the class.
Reccomended
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thanks.
He's doing a good job, just a little more experience and he will be great!
You have potential to be a really great teacher. Just maybe work on speaking, gathering thoughts and then try to not miss any steps (even the little ones) when solving a problem (we're not always as smart as you!). But besides that, you're a breath of fresh air when it comes to strict math teachers.
I would like to sincerely thank Professor Anderson for being my instructor during Spring and Iam looking forward to participating in his Summer class. There have been many things that I learned from him over the past 4 months, ranging from knowing and understanding equations and their graphs to trigonometry that involved many different geometric shapes such as the unit circle and triangles.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is very kind and considerate. He has a good teaching skill.
Being relaxed makes everyone else relaxed. He answers questions right away instead of waiting. Is a nice person to learn from. Wants to help when he can. Asks for questions.
Very good teacher, awesome logical explanations makes you fully understand the concepts.
His extensive knowlege of the material, and that he could relate the material in different ways. That helped cater to the different ways individual students understood the material.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Use of a phone.
None!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
His teaching skill is good for international students because I can understand all of thing in the class.
Office hours. Giving people a break when mistakes happen.
He was always available to explain anything you needed him to.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I will recommend to my friends because his class is nice.
Yes, the guy is genuinely a good guy.
Yes
Definetly. The time he took during in class workshops to make sure students were understanding the material and the way he could explain it made it easy to calculus easy to understand.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I learned a lot from him.
Best math teacher
18. Other comments:
School needs to be run in such a way where it can teach students that money isn't everything. Actually get them to not even think about the money. Also I think it would be a good idea if we could keep security on the campus but keep it so that the students are able to be as free thinking as possible without hurting anyone. Sometimes I would stay on campus and I might sleep on the grass. But I would be told to wake up. Or quit loitering. Well. This is a form of self expression as well I think. It just gives the person time to think. Without going all the way back home to think. Home is were the heart is so. Just saying could be a little more lenient.
After taking Calculus I at Windward Community College and failing after studying hard I came to KCC where I think the Calculus I program is really good, way better. Dr Anderson is a really good teacher and I learned so much and I now understand Calculus very well

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mr. Austin strengths is he's ability to teach. If you listen closely to how he lectures he explains each formula/rule by using definitions and relating it to everyday life. Me even writes eveything on the bored like cautions suggestions
he has a lot of knowledge in the subject
He is very organized and he knows his material. He is very friendly as well. I like the way he goes over the math because its the best way I learn math. He is easy to contact out of class and he always emails back.
Austin is very nice and patient.
Great at explaining the material.
He was knowledgeable about the topics at hand. Examples that he went over in class were problems that were difficult for me to do. I appreciated it, that he went over stuff like that. He spoke clearly in class, I always sit in the back and I could hear him.
Austin Anderson has a very easy going and relaxed teaching style. This is a great attribute when teaching a subject that can very intimidating. He is clear about the material he is teaching. He also allows alot of class participation--students feel free to comment and ask questions.
Knows the subject
He can relate and very flexible and notifys us on every quiz and test! very funny too!
he was very good at explaining the topics and going very things that people had a hard dime understanding
As a teacher, he writes down notes for us. When students almost arrive at the answer, he gives little hints on how to fix it. After class, he tells us that he's available to answer any questions we may have. But most of all, his major strength is that he relates to his students. He gives examples that can be applied in daily routine. I like that he lets us work in teams because although math is something an individual should do on his/her own, it's also good to learn from other peers mistakes and what not.
He knows his subject well, and he teaches it effectively. He is friendly and approachable.
a complex thinker
Good teaching kill. He is an approachable teacher.
he goes over step by step on how to do the problem
Good at explaining, I really understood the material.
Knows the subject area extremely well and is very friendly.
He followed his syllabus and notified students if there were changes. Prompt in grading papers and clearly went over it to help students understand the subject.
He knows how to simplfy the material in math and clearly explains what we have to look out for, while doing homework.
He makes the classroom comfortable. He is very friendly.
He teaches very clear and also gave answered any questions in class during his lectures, other teachers may not let you until lecture is over. His notes for math we're very helpful and clear for future homeworks, quizzes and classwork.
Concern about students and always offering chance for students to make up works.
he knows material well and presents it in a fun and simple way to understand
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Not to rush. He doesn't do it all the time but sometimes he'll be talking about one subject then jump to the next one. but other than that I enjoyed his class.
I don't think he needs to change anything.
To not jump from one subject to another because at times i get confused.
Maybe teach a little faster
less online homework, it sucks inputting long strings of polynomials into a computer, and if you have the wrong form of an answer put it its marked wrong even though its technically correct
The only flaw I'd say about him is that he sometimes can't explain a process clear enough. It takes him to rephrase his sentence 2 or 3 times before at least, I can understand it. For the most part, I think there's an advantage to using the whiteboard but the markers usually run out of ink fast. He should try to use a different kind of board or marker that is environmentally friendly??
none
Not to linger so much on one thing. He sort of taught us a little bit too much like we were "dumb"... I think he underestimates our intelligence and that we can grasp things much quicker than he thinks we can.
In the beginning of the semester, lectures were kind of unorganized and confusing but got better over the semester I wish he gave more examples on each topic and talked about it more then expecting us to "know" it already or its just "review."
N/A
none.
He could be more confidence on what he think he is right.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He showed concern for his students by understanding that some problems on the exam were hard and made up for those points by giving partial credit if we wrote something right on the exam even if it didnt lead to the right answer. and provided a coupe of extra credit.
he helps them out when they ask questions and make sure they understand it at the end
He is easy to contact. He helps students after class if they need help on their homework, exam, classwork, etc. He is at school almost every day so he can try and schedule you into any time you are free as well. He emails back all the time.
He told us to constantly check our email and told us constantly the due dates of our assignments.
He would always answer questions from his students and never dismiss them. He never made his students feel stupid, especially when it came to Math.
He really wants students to understand the materials presented. He answers questions, stays after class, and most importantly he challenges his students.
yes
He goes around the classroom to check if all students are doing the math problem correctly. And when most of the class doesn't understand it, he explains it. Basically, he treats his students well too. He doesn't yell (but not that it's necessary) or be boring where he doesn't make side jokes about things. When students are either absent, he gives make up quizzes which is good so that students don't fall behind on their grades.
He clarifies when we ask him to without ever belittling us and is often available outside of class.
try hard to teach us
When we emial him he will get back to us and if we needed help he will assit us and guide us in finding way to help us undrstand how to solve the problem
He gave out the answers a lot, which was a bit disappointing because then instead of only the people who deserved a high mark getting a high mark, everyone would get a high mark.
He asks if there were any questions for him concerning each chapter and would stay behind after class to answer questions. He would also have a review for each exam to give students an idea of what is going to be on the exam.
He should concern by asking if we had any questions on our homework and helped us out when we would asked questions on in class worksheets.
He gave out extra credit to boost up homework points, and made himself available after class for questions and help if you missed an assignment in class.
He replies students' email pretty soon, and will come up to students when they look confused, and offering them help.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would. Because he is a new teacher I thought he would be nervous and not too as good but he honestly didn't do a bad job he has potential to be a great math teacher.
yes
Yes I would. He is helpful and friendly.
No, because i didn't although i already know the course because i learned it during high school, i got confused most of the times because i didn't get how he teaches.
Yes. Great teaching methods
YES! For myself, he treats us as equals.
I would definitely recommend him to other student's. He seems to really care about his student's, and enjoys teaching.
Yeah, he knows the subjects and is open to the different ways of doing math
yes because he worked hard on making sure students understood each concept
Yes, I would recommend him because he's a young math teacher. What I mean by young is that he can relate to his students who are in their early 20's. He tries to give examples that relate to a certain cohort.
Yes, because math is a difficult subject for many students, but he teaches it in a way that is easy to understand. I did not struggle unnecessarily in his class.
Yes. He is super nice and willing to help students.
yes, he`s good
yes because he shows step by step instructions he egnages the class
I'm not sure.
Yes friendly teacher that knows his math and shows enthusiasm and eager to teach.
Yes, I would recommend him to other students. He is very knowledgeable of the subject he teaches. Also, he is patient, understanding, and flexible when it comes to due dates.
Yes, becuase he knows his stuff and is very good at teaching math.
Yes. His teaching way is easy to understand.
yes i would definitely recommend him to students. best math professor i ever had.
Yes, he allows us to work in group, so that we will gain with others.
yes
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He really does teach good. Many people may say hes boring or whatever because I've heard conversations but because math isn't everyones favorite subject it does get boring its just how each individual seriousness of the subject. I recommend Mr. Anderson.
He needs to gain a little more confidence in teaching. Mr. Anderson does a great job, but he looks a bit uncomfortable at times. I dunno, I think its just me. But he is a great teacher. I am taking his Math 135 next semester.
I certainly enjoyed the class. And even if it was a review of the things I learned in Math 25, there were additional problems or equations I wasn't familiar with which I know will come in handy someday.
He can be pretty funny! I enjoy his math jokes as well as the ones that are not so directly related to math.
none
He is friendly but a bit too timid. I think he just needs to gain experience and authority.
A very good and well-paced math class. I really appreciated the extra credit opportunities.
none
Cool and chill. very awesome teacher.
He is a good and new teacher, less confidence than other teachers. But I think he will better later.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He knew the subject matter and was always willing to help students.
He really knows how to explain things to students. His explanations are very clear. He seems always willing to help students. Therefore, he makes students feel free to ask questions :)
he is a good teacher, and helping, sharing with students
He helps the students out a lot.
He always taught us easy to understand. He is a very kind teacher to students because he always treated students fairly.
is easy to pass!
he breaksdown the topics in lecture. it makes learning easier.
He provided a good atmosphere in learning. If you didn't understand any math equation, he would go back and do it over again.
He is knowledgeable about his subject and can relate it to real life as well as help us know where we will need it in the future
Of course he understands the all the material he goes over in class and he is willing to help out students with math problems that my seem difficult for people to understand.
Knows what he is talking about. Tries to make the class fun despite the difficult lecture. Very fun professor.
He is very knowledgeable.
Fair.
He was very focused on giving every student a fair share of grades and any way to boast up our grades.
You can tell he really loves math. He relates to students.
Professor Anderson was very good at keeping the classroom in a relaxed modd. This helped me tremendously because I had always been afraid of math and always felt nervous in math classes. In this class I felt less tense and this definitely helped to boost my concentration and confidence. Professor Anderson's quizzes and worksheets were very helpful also because I was able to get help immediately from him and my peers when I needed clarification. This also allowed me to help my peers as well which allowed me to solidify my knowledge.
He explains the material well, uses good examples and grades students fairly.
He is devoted, friendly and helpful. He helps students outside of class even time out over 20 minutes.
He explain the lesson very well and step-by-step so students can understand it.
He makes everything clear and provides good examples.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would suggest making the lectures more informative and more use of the textbook. A lot of times I felt that I had to teach myself things because his lectures weren't clear enough for me to understand that when I did the online homework I was so lost. I would also suggest doing more examples during lecture.
he can teach a little slower, i mean speak slower.
more example for the question
N/A
He should try make the exam questions a little more relavent to the homework and quizzes we do in class. I feel some of the questions he puts on the exam are not what we studied in the class or reviewed much at all with. He should tell us what type of problems should be on the exams and which types should we not study for.
His lecture speed was fast. I hope it is a bit slower.
He knows the subject and easy going. not a dinosaur like everybody else in the Math dep.
He needs to explain more. Maybe be more clean as in steps on how to solve something.
None.
N/a
make sure everyone is grasping the material. also dont just assume students know every stem and skim over material break everything down
He should give more example for each type problem.
Keep up the good work!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He was always willing to answer questions for students. If ever I emailed him, he was always willing to answer and questions and help me in any way.
he shows us how to do the work, and he has extra credit for student can work on.:)
When anyone needed help, he was there to give it.
by letting us know about our grades. asking if we have questions.
He provided extra credit and gave out open quizzes that we can study afterwards for the main exams.
I he asked questions in front of the class if students had issues.
He remembers students' name and was close to us at friendly atmosphere.
Yes....
Provides extra credit for everyone, and extra points for participation.
Professor Anderson showed concern for his students by always being ready to help. I often saw him stay after class to help his students. He clearly informed the class his different contact routes which gave the students more access to seek help.
He asked a lot of questions collectively to the class and was accessible for class questions in and out of the classroom.
He usually goes around in class to help (if students need) while we do assignments.
He answer any questions and e-mail.
He helps us with any questions that we may have and relates the subject towards real world applications.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
No, because I had a really hard time understanding his lectures. He would jump around a lot between different topics that I would get so confused. His tests and quizzes sometimes had nothing to do with what he taught in class. He would say that it was online homework but I would think he would put emphasis on what he taught in class.
Yes, because his lecture is clear enough to understand the concepts.
yes, because the class was well organized and he made the material easy to understand.
yes , i would. as i say, he is funny, friendly and try to help students a lot.
Yes, he's a good teacher.
yes, he is easy to get a good grade
yes! he provides a good environment for learning.
Yes, because his lectures was effective and understandable. He provided help so that you can do well in his exams and homework.
Yes, that is if you are prepared for elementary functions.
Yes. He teaches in a way understandable to us all and very eager to help those who does not.
Yes. You can be relaxed to study Math.
Yes. Cause he is a complete teacher! He is there to teach us not to force us to be like him...
Yes, because he is a good teacher that teaches well. He also willing to help anyone that has problems.
Yes. He's a good teacher
Yes, especially if you are the type of person who is nervous about math like I was. During the first day of class, I remember nervously asking Professor Anderson about how I can review for this class because I haven't taken math in a long time. I did this because I was very worried about this class. Now I don't feel so afraid of math and this class gave me the confidence boost that I needed.
Yes, he's a fair and knowledgeable teacher.
no. he is a great person but for me i learned more on my own then i di going to his class. he likes to skip steps in problems becuase he assumes everyone knows it but thats not always the case.
Yes, students who really want to learn should take him because you will learn a lot from HW, quizes and test.
Yes! He's a good Professor.
Yes because this class is very easy to get through. Thre subject may be hard for some but he does a good job of guiding his students through the work.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
he is a great instructor. i enjoy taking his class !
Austin is flexible in teaching, smart, and smile all the time.

Mr. Anderson was fair in his treatment towards everyone. He was very patient and showed great care and concern in helping me and other students to prepare for our tests. He allowed the student to make the personal decisions about the course after explaining reasonable options. I really appreciated his patience and taking time to explain and answer my many questions. I have a disability and he was most kind and discreet not to make my disability apparent in any way. Austin is an excellent teacher and I would highly recommend him. Thank you, KCC, for employing such competent and truly caring teachers who know how to teach and encourage the best of their students. Sincerely, A Grateful Student
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
I suggest to really push not getting behind in modules. It's almost finals week and a lot of us are behind. It's not his fault, but I suggest that he really emphasizes to work ahead and stick to the schedule if you want to pass with an A.
maybe to try and update grades weekly if possible, and meet with us every two weeks.

No changes.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Yes, he did! He walked with me from the math lab to the library to put my name on the list for the exams and is always very nice, I think he's a gentleman.
We would have a grade check every two weeks, and he would ask us how we were doing in the course. Also, everyday before class began, he reminded our class on where we were supposed to be in the course. He also gave us dates and times of supplemental workshops on Fridays; which helped students get extra help on sections that they were unsure about.

updates and small teacher student conferences
walking around during class
He does individual assement on where you are standing and give suggestions.
He encouraged us to keep up with our work and had progress checks with us to see how we were doing.
Mr. Anderson was always informative in letting the class know what their objectives and expected performance was for the week, and for the scheduled semester. He consistently asked if anyone one had questions that needed explaining, and he made the time to personally review and evaluate each student. He was watchful and assisted anyone who needed help promptly. Also, he was discerning and would offer assistance if a student showed signs of needing help. I appreciated the fact that Austin treated everyone with respect and dignity.

Good teacher.
I'm impressed with the fact that Austin is going to obtain his doctorate in math. He is a good example, to the youth of this generation, which exemplifies the message, "You can do it, keep trying, we're here to help you."
18. Other comments:
He taught me so well that right after I get done with this quiz I'm going to finish 9.2 Quiz :)

The model of the class is different from what I expected with "in class", I prefer Lecture base, this style feels like an online class which I am not a fan of. The only good think I can think of is it is Self Paced.
I would also like to express great appreciation and thanks to all the other teachers who assisted me in the math lab during my extra hours spent there after regular classes. Ms. Davis, John, Marissa, and Mr. Yoshimura were also very skillful, patient, and caring teachers. Like Austin, they were able to explain the most difficult concepts for me to grasp in a practical way which outdid the math book and Pearson coursecompass course. I felt the computer course was advantageous to me personally. It allowed me the time to work at my own pace and to work out the problems and concepts without the pressure and fear of failing the course. It helped me to develop my critical thinking skills in solving math problems I was not familiar with, however, it could not replace the need for genuinely knowledgeable, skilfully experienced teachers. Thank you, Kapiolani College, for providing the best quality education for the students who attend this school. I'm thankful to be a student. I hope you never underestimate or replace excellent teachers with online classes or computer programed courses, as technology is providing more dependency on such teaching methods. Sincerely, A Very Grateful Student
