13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
break down of chapters
He answers student's questions and doubts. He is a board lecturer meaning he doesn't use the projector for lecturing which I find to my liking. Hard to have old school teachers that writes everything on board.
He knew the course material well, and presented it in a manner that I could understand. He explained multiple ways to find solutions and encouraged us to pick and practice the one we found most applicable to us. He was also able to answer all student questions on problems and material.
Knows the subject well, knows how to balance the class between lecture and work well. Keeps the class atmosphere light and cracks jokes every once in a while.
Austin is a superb teacher. His teaching is clear and concise. He explains things that were easy to understand and my class notes, which I just copied what Austin wrote, was better than using the text book. The video's that were shown helped and added variety to class. He definitely knows the material being presented.

More time to do homework
I believe that too many points are taken off for notation errors even though we show that we know that material. The simple mistakes are very punishing, especially for an accelerated class, the only time we really get feedback from Austin on our Algebra work is on quizzes and tests.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
allowed us to work problems in different ways other than his own
He offers office hours. The way he checks up on students on our exit problems. Gives us advice on where to look for more help.
We were able to make up quizzes and he made them available outside of class for those who needed.
Reaches out to students and is always patient and willing to help.
He often asked if anyone did understand, if anyone had questions, and offered more face time at math club or office hours. He even gave extra credit for math club. He also sent emails out concerning progress and for students to consider if they should go for a 'W' instead of failing. He often stated from day 1 that each student should be spending 2 hours a day on course work to do well in Math 103. He also gave in class assignments that encouraged peers to help each other. He asked for all students to submit reflections/feedback on exams they did.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, clear teaching.
Yes. Because his style of teaching and learning is totally different. Like he added a bit of psychology 100 into it. Not saying he taught something irrelevant in a math class but like, he knows students can achieve and better themselves if they participate in class or if they talk to other students and work together. Do homework. Be in class every day. He knows that self teaching is hard for most and so with that, he made a system that worked for most of us if not all. You want to know why people like me who absolutely hate math and can't function quite well in math classes would recommend him to a friend? It's because he is EASY. Not EASY in a bad way. Easy as in he knows how to explain things well enough for someone to understand the world of a mathematician. And believe me, for someone who had to do MATH 24/25 3 times before going into MATH 103... He is good at his job.
Yes. He is a good teacher. He also doesn't assume you know problems, and works them from the beginning.

I would definitely recommend Austin. He is great at teaching and communicating. He makes math interesting which I find is a rare trait. You can tell he really enjoys math and enjoys teaching it. His personal math anecdotes are especially delightful. He is open-minded, as he accepts different viewpoints on how to do a problem, and he lets students teach him techniques that he may not have encounter. He is humble too.

Keep up the good work as a great teacher
He's really cheesy like all math professor's I know. But he's cool.

Mr. Anderson has a deep understanding of the material which allows him to relate it to students in a number of ways. He also listens to his students and I think he customizes his lessons based upon what kind of feedback students give him.

Mr. Anderson is very knowledgeable about Mathematics and is very effective a conveying and communicating his lessons to us in an easy to comprehend manner.
makes sure all his students knew the material, if students couldn't understand the way he taught he would try to think of another way to explain the lesson.

He is able to explain math in a way that people can understand, and for me, in a way that wasnt as conventional ad other teachers ive had. where as many other proffessors expect you to have a background in math, Austin Anderson goes through each step and is willing and able to answer all questions.

He always encouraged students to come by his office if they had any issues in class.
Expressing how vital homework, quizzes, and exams were. Also, freeing up class time after lecture to help students.

Mr. Anderson was very flexible with assignments and things and would often ask us if we needed help with anything during class. He would often encourage us to come to his office hours if we required additional tutoring out of class.

Yes, definitely. He clearly loves what he does and it shows through his lectures. He gets students involved and more importantly doesn't lull his class to the point of boredom or exhaustion as he makes sure everyone understands what's happening the entire way through lecture.

Maybe teach more from the textbook to help people understand the homework a little better. Often times I felt like things in class made perfect sense but the homework and the way that the textbook presented things was endlessly frustrating.

He is willing to help any students, even if they are not his students.
Austin is really easy to speak to, is approachable, makes you feel like you're not an idiot, and is easy to access outside the classroom.
Constantly offers help outside of class through office hours, PLUS, and math club. Offers help with homework problems in probably every class. Genuinely wants to see people succeed and does what he can to assist.
He is very patient to answer my question. He is a very good teacher.
He is always willing to help students with the subject material. He takes the time to make sure the students fully understand the class work.

I definitely would. He was such a great help for me in achieving my good grade, even I at the start I wasn't so good at Math at all.

Yes. Calculus isn't an easy subject. There are many concepts that are difficult to digest or wrap your head around but you probably won't find a professor that will make it easier for you (while still covering all the necessary material) than Austin will.

Professor Anderson is very knowledgeable in math. He is very enthusiastic about teaching and tries to make class interesting. He does similar math problems as the ones students are assigned as examples in class. This is very helpful. He also grades assignments and exams promptly.

Maybe give less problems for homework assignments. Since this is an accelerated math course, assignment deadlines are very close together and it gets hard to turn in assignments on time after a while.

Professor Anderson would ask us if we had any questions after explaining a concept. He gives us time to work on quizzes in class and walks around to check if we have any question with the problems. He is also available during office hours to help.

I would recommend this course only if they student has a good foundation in math and if they are dedicated to studying for the course. This is an accelerated course and so there is less time to spend on topics versus a traditional course.

He always tried to make calculus seem fun.
He review before the test or the quiz and even give practice test just to make sure you know the materials.
The man is patient I give him that.

I really appreciated the fact that he made the effort to learn the names of his students! He always encouraged us to come to his office hours for help if we needed it. I also appreciate the fact that he would give a brief review on material covered in previous math classes if it related to the new material we were covering.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
His passion for the subject, positive and energetic attitude, and unique nature enable him to teach efficiently and effectively with a little humor that keeps students attention. There was never a time (and this is very unusual for a math class) that I had trouble paying attention or was bored of the lecture. Always was there for his students, asking if someone had questions or needed help with homework. He was also always very available outside of class to help students.
Awesome professor. Great knowledge of the subject and teaches very well. He makes math fun.
Math is a difficult subject. However, I find it's easy in Austin's class because the way he teaches is easy to understand. Austin is always patient while explain a math problem so his students would understand. And he always highlight an interesting problem with "Wow" at the end.
His knowledge of the subject, his "caring for his students success" attitude, his office hours were the best and his ability to break down the material to where most if not all students understood.

None. In fact I strongly encourage that no changes be made to his class.

Austin should prepare a planned lectures.
More extra credit given throughout the semester. Make homework and quizzes worth more then they were worth, that way students who don't do so good on tests, are allowed to not stress so much about passing or failing the course like I did. Plus sessions for higher math courses with good leaders like "Jane".

Always asking if we needed help during classwork, or if we needed any homework problems worked out on the board. Always available outside of class and clearly showed that he wanted everyone to understand the material and do well.
He keeps more office hours than he is required.
He always ask if his students understand the problem, and repeat again in a easier way if they still don't understand.
Austin understands that his students are busy, so he made the homework, and only the howework, deadlines flexible.
He was the best. Cared a lot for his students and showed it through over- extended office hours and in class lectures. Knew that most students didn't do so well on a certain test, so he made a quiz for us to bring up our grades. Answered questions asked to him to the best of his ability and didn't make anyone feel like they didn't belong or were out of line for asking it, etc.

Definitely. Probably the strongest math teacher I've had so far, and I've really really liked all but 1 of the math teachers at KCC.

Up up the percentage worth for the homeworks, add more extra credit earlier in the semester. Plus sessions a must for extra credit too!! LOL!! Make attendance mandatory and like 10% of a student's grade.....guaranteed almost nobody misses your class. Oh yeah, maybe start a little later in the day. Maybe 75% of the test questions should be similar to the practice questions and proofs should be extra credit on a test. Maybe grade and post on a more timely fashion. Other then that, it was awesome to be in your class!!

Austin Anderson explains the material in a way that is clear and understandable. I like how he gives us practice worksheets to practice doing the problems, it helps for when we have to take the test.
His major strengths as a teacher would be that he knows the material, made a good learning environment, always warned the students of the upcoming assignments or exams. He was also very understanding and ifna student missed class he was easy to reach out side of class.
He's a good listener, and he answers questions that students ask in a way that usually helps the students asking questions understand better.
He actively recognizes areas in math where students need the most help or most struggle with and he works to make the material more clear.
Professor Anderson would explained the difficult problems from the test or homework to help students clearly understood on the chapter. He would also go over the test and explained how to do it.
Austin is very good at explaining difficult concepts. He is able to provide concrete examples for all the content he introduces.

Austin Anderson's greatest ability is to sympathize with his students and teach math (which is a very difficult subject in the first place) in a great understandable way that shows he really cares about his students. He teaches fairly, and always prepares us for the tests. He doesn't have unreasonable expectations, always keeping us students on top of the material. He doesn't throw unexpected curveballs at us (which always made math more stressful with other teachers)

I really like this math teacher . In my opinion he is one of the best that I have taken so far. If he were to teach math 140 I would sign up for his class.
I don't have any problems with the ways that he runs his class, because he's able to go threw the whole course without having to cut some subjects short.

He always makes sure everyone gets the material. He provides many different examples, often improvising on the spot to answer a student's question.

Major strengths that professor Anderson performed were the way he went over homework problems by thoroughly going over a problem step by step explaining it until we students understands the problems. He would also go over a review on what will be on quiz and exams that way we are prepared although the questions that are on the quizzes or exam are different from what he goes over in the review.

Not many changes that i would suggest but it would be good to have more examples to go over in class because the book have some ridiculous problems.
Go over more examples in class on how to do some of the harder examples and go through each step by step.

His lectures are not very clear, his examples does not give enough detailed information to proceed with the homework. We all know he is very smart, but somehow he has a hard time explaining things. It doesn't help that the book is hard to understand, so an alternative source of info must be used such as youtube, and other math sites.
Please carry out all of the algebra. I know it's long and painstaking but nothing is more frustrating than trying to learn something new, getting a wrong answer, and then just realizing it's the algebra

His concerns are by having reviews before the exams, warning us students when we will be having an exam. He made sure that we understand a problem before moving on.

i had a lot of personal emergencies this semester. he was more than accommodating through all of them. my mother broke her ankle, so i had to miss somme classes because of this, i was involved in a major car accident, my girl friend and i had to go through an emotional rollercoaster via an abortion, and Mr. Anderson was able to help accomodate my intense schedule, unlike Don Voyce, who's class i had to take a W, wasting both my money and time.
He is very good about office hours and plus sessions.
He's always available outside of class for office hours and his class offers a plus session to help with his lectures.

Mr. Anderson encourages us to take the red pill and get thorough understanding of the material we studied. he was available, he had plus sessions, and he had extra credit (albeit it being impossibly difficult). most importantly of all, he was a man of good character. this is, imo the i most important quality to be found in professors. it is very reassuring to have professors in school who are there to help you succeed. in life post college (as i have experienced), those people become few and far between.

He was like a machine. Set the schedule and plowed through the material. We hit everything that he laid out from the beginning. Quiz feedback was really nice. It let me know how well I knew the material. Also prepared me for tests. He did enough problems in class to provide students with the tools to dive into the homework. His cool easy bohemian ways made the mood light and easy and encouraging. Patience, he put up with my heckling and commentary for a whole year; man has some tolerance for us lesser mortals. Solved the hard problems. Would always provide us with a solution even when the answer guide provided some cryptic solution Anderson was there to show us the tricks and shortcuts. He relates really well to the students.
The atmosphere in the classroom was comfortable and encouraging. He encouraged students to ask about things they were not clear about. He did several examples of every topic. he was understanding of issues that prevented turning in homework late sometimes

Professor Anderson's major strength as a teacher is his enthusiasm in the subject. Normally math is a VERY DRY subject. This is one of the few math classes I haven't lost my mind in.
Mr. Anderson know what problems students may have when they do the homework. And he will teach student how to solve problems step by step.

Although the material was presented well. It would have been nice to review past concepts that we should be familiar with, even if it's been several years since we took the previous calculus classes. I found myself lost sometimes and had to review calc 1 and 2 material to understand the current topics. Although this is not required, it would have been nice for me

Was always open to our opinions and always available to office hours. We talked Math outside of the topics, and he always encouraged me to do more and pursue higher math. He is a friend. Bottom line, he was there.

If we missed a homework assignment or we missed a class, he would always let us turn in the assignment later and he would gladly inform us on what we missed.
Professor Anderson sent out emails concerning difficult problems during class, which held proofs on why a question couldn't be worked out. He also encouraged his office hours every class to ensure that his door is always open if there were any type of problem that would occur.
Mr. Anderson can help students solve the problems they have, and willing to answer student's question.

He is BRILLIANT! He knows math so well, it's irritating. His passion for math makes the subject fun to learn. He always looks happy when he teaches and makes lame jokes that relate. He is also very easy to understand from, his teaching style is very good. And he always stays after class to help any of us that need it.
Even his class was flexible and going so fast, he explain each math material properly and helped out students when they have a questions and stuff.

Austin Anderson was one of the best teachers I've had thus far, he's super nice and laid back, but wants you to learn this Math. You can tell he really enjoys his subject matter, and is really amazed by the power of math, and wants us to be also! He tries to demonstrate examples that will "wow" us and spends much of the class time going over tough homework problems to help us out, yet still makes it through the course material without falling behind. He obviously knows what he's doing and how to run a class, while also being very laid back and easy for students to approach. He's always in his office during office hours, and provides a plus session for those who need extra help, and gives extra credit for it. His test questions are very similar to homework and quiz questions, and has a lot of open-book/group quizzes, so we can work together to figure something tough out; as well as closed-book quizzes to test us. Calculus is not easy, but Austin does a better job than most I presume at teaching this difficult material!

His creativity when it comes to explaining concepts.
High-level math is an extremely difficult subject that can almost certainly suck out your soul. Despite this, Anderson consistently knew the class was in for the long haul, and was always willing to help his students. He even set up PLUS sessions, Peer-Lead unit study, for students who had an extra difficult time with the material. He tried his hardest to make sure his students would understand the material, and that effort bloody well paid off. Anderson also has a hella sense of humor, an important trait for mathematicians to keep their souls.
He teaches very clearly, is very fair, and available to help.

He would provide PLUS sessions for the class to attend when needed help. Asks the class if they needed help on any of the homework assignments at the beginning of class.
He is always open to homework questions and he answers them in class this helps us alot.
Austin offered his office hours opened to anybody that needed help and he was always available. He also included PLUS sessions, which were these little tutoring sessions to help students with homework and it helped prepare students for any upcoming exam or quiz.

He would be at his office hours, he would answer questions before and after class, do plenty of freebie homework questions to help us out on difficult homeworks, put up plenty of examples, have plus sessions and a few extra credit opportunities, and just wanted to spread his love for math to all of us =)
- Although it took a while to get graded material back, it showed that he spent a lot of time looking over our work and making sure that we were doing things right. - Saves a generous portion of class time for homework questions, during which he goes over the problems step-by-step, but without giving away the answer. - Gives a lot of practice worksheets - A lot of office hours

How did he not? He would always set up appointments, office hours, and PLUS sessions for struggling students. He would also occasionally waive late penalties to students he knew were really trying.

I can tell he enjoys his profession as a math teacher because he is enthusiastic about his work. He will always try to finish up a problem and if he can't at the moment he will get back to it the next lecture. He is a fair teacher and grade.
Knows the material.
Anderson was always available to help. It was extremely helpful that he had multiple office hours on different days. I never had to worry about not being able to come in if I had questions/concerns. I also liked that he enforced as much homework as he did. I learn math by actually *doing* math and the homework, as long as they were, ensured that I really learned the material thoroughly. I also liked that he allowed limited notes on the exams instead of making us mindlessly memorize formulas.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I suggest lessen up the amount of homework problems just by a couple but overall nothing should be changed because his way of teaching is effective.
I think to do the lectures more conceptually and less homework problems. I think the more problems there are the more focus of having the homework done tends to happen than getting the concepts gets in the way. I think more review at the end of week would help.
Encourage more class participation
Perhaps to plan example problems presented in class in advance. I felt we spent a lot of time figuring out why we didn't get the right answer, which, in a way is good, but also very confusing. Some times I left class more confused than when I arrived.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He would get back to you on a problem the next time with even clear instructions and procedures on how to solve the problem. He wouldn't give a ridiculous type of problem. All his work and problems are reasonable and challenging.
Gave extra time to do quizzes when we weren't prepared for them.
He was always there to help, encouraged questions and interaction in class, and was also available outside of class via email and office hours.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend other students to him because he is very knowledgeable in his field and he teaches you in ways that is understandable and easy to get. His work load and quizzes prepare you for the exam.
Yes and no. This was his first time teaching Math 231 so it's understandable he wasn't the best at teaching the material. Other than that good teacher!
Yes, his expectations are clear and his schedule for learning the material isn't too aggressive/fast paced. He has set up his class for you to learn the material thoroughly.

His math related to physics applications could be stronger. It seemed like some of what we were presented conflicted somewhat with what I had previously learned in PHYS 170 and 270.

A better push to ask students, to question the material, right after he finishes an equation. I find that asking the students "do you guys get that" is a good push to encourage questioning, but I think that can need some work to encourage questioning even further.

Austin Anderson's strengths are learning how to give us examples and explain the subject well when someone asks a question. I like how when we have a worksheet he doesn't give us the correct or wrong answer he makes us communicate with other classmate and do it together.

Prof. Anderson ALWAYS answered the questions he was asked, and to the best of his ability (no half- ass answers, ya know?) He always stayed several minutes after class to answer any other questions. People often say that every question is a good question. Some teachers in the past have discouraged students from participating. Prof. Anderson was able to get the class attention even at 8 in the morning! Would encourage students and improve our math skills.
I think graded homework is pretty awesome. It is something I know takes a lot of time for teachers to do but is really helpfull for students to stay motivated.

I would recommend Anderson's Math 103 course to most students because he teaches it well and can cause students to become better math students. I know that I did pretty well in Math 103 and I appreciated his course as well as how he got me to like math more than before.

Shutting up people like Kenyetta. She went on magical mystery tours or would try and show off what she knew. It was super distracting and would waste time sometimes. some questions helped... but... it was offensive to all my senses and when it is a test review day or an otherwise pressed for time class and she keeps blabbing on it is hard not to shout at her to shut up!

Move a little faster in the accelerated course. Would like to have more problems to work with during lecture.
I would suggest that he should try to make the teaching a little less complicated with his particular pace, organization of the material, his focus on particular topics, and how everything gets displayed. I feel that somethings that he was teaching was a bit more complicated then needed to be and he kind put more confusion as well as scare into his students then needed to be.
I would say pick up the pace, its an Accelerated Class. Also while having the quick pace, Keep the student interested in your work and not a thing to just do quickly and forget about it later.
1) It would improve this course if he were more organized, and timely with his quizzes. 2) Minimizing unnecessary classroom chatter would be very helpful. It is difficult to concentrate on the material being presented when groups of students are talking or socializing during lectures or Q&A.

ABSOLUTELY! He is the 'EASIEST' math professor I have EVER had. NOT. He isn't the easiest... but he taught the material so well and made sure we really understood what mattered and what would be homework material and test material. If information was extranneous he let it go. He didn't waste time on proofs. He just taught what mattered. So was he the EASIEST. No. But did I actually LEARN so that succeeding was easy? YES. The way he handled so many parts of the class; I ACTUALLY LEARNED instead of memorized. He also kept the material and class super low key and chill which sounds bad but it helped remove test anxiety and math anxiety which can be huge problems alone, but one can give birth to or wake up the other and create an ugly math test anxiety monster hybrid. I always felt 'safe' in this class. No worries. I knew I was being well prepared.

I would recommend him to students that are pretty well-versed in math because if you are a student that math isn't your strong suit you may get lost easily. His course is better for math students that know it well because he speaks more towards the well math minded person.

He offered extra credit and always reviewed for quizzes and exams a few days before the exam. Always said what we should study and constantly asked if anyone needed questions. From day one he told everyone that it wasn't an easy class but tried his best to carry everyone through till the last day.

Given this is Professor Anderson's first semester teaching Calculus 4, I felt that he did a decent job. He utilized various methods to present the course material including class lecture, homework, quizzes, and group work. I am confident that with time his teaching methods and course material will change accordingly to best fit the material of this course.

He offers an atmospere where student's feel relaxed. He takes the time to explain concepts that are not clearly understood.
I was actually suprised how well behaved the class was and suspect it had much to do with the timeframe. However, it may have been that Austin is a self effacing teacher that presented a non- threatening atmosphere to the students. As it was the class was very conducive to learning.

As a teacher, Prof. Anderson's major strengths tend to be that he is willing to prepare available resources (himself and his webpage specifically)in order to help his students succeed. He also gives out a much needed break in class in order for his students to get their bearings before the second half of the lecture. In this way, his strengths tend toward getting us to absorb the information as best as possible while allowing time outside of class for questions concerning the homework.

He could be a little more organized with his lectures. This was a summer class, and there was alot of materials to get through. I would also suggest that there is a limit to how long individual students take up class time with their homework questions.

One possible change that I have to Prof. Anderson is if his webpage URL was put on the board for the entire summer course so that people will know. This is pretty minor in and of itself since most people can just visit him during office hours to get their questions answered up front.

He is always willing to help his students and wants them to learn the material. His lectures are interesting and he give practical applications for the math being taught.
He made himself available to discuss discrepancies with our homework tool, namely MyMathLab, which can be somewhat challenging.

He had office hours after his class and he constantly told us about his office hours and where he would be at certain times of the day.
Prof. Anderson shows concern for his students through his break time sessions and for going over some tough quiz questions to help us prepare for the next one. The five minute break sessions are there for when we need time to do an in-class worksheet or to just simply take a break so that we would be refreshed for the second half of the day's lesson. Him going over quiz questions allows us to understand our mistakes so we don't repeat them on the next major quiz or test. He wants us to succeed and he has the strategies for it.

I would definitely recommend him to other students. He is a gifted teeacher and makes everyone feel welcome in his class.

I would definitely recommend Prof. Anderson to other students because unlike other Math 140 professors in the main branch of UH (the Manoa branch), he actually makes his lessons easy to understand and does so in a timely manner. His class is also relatively easy to pass so if someone has trouble passing Math 140 at UH Manoa, they can go to him in order to get similar results for half the costs. That and the fact that he is made easily available after class for questions makes students feel comfortable knowing that there is help.

Prof. Anderson pretty much summarizes what most students should see in a reasonable math teacher. The fact that he teaches at a community college makes him more valuable since going to his class costs less than if someone was to attend class at UH Manoa like I did. An overall great teacher to finish your Math 140 course, especially over the summer.

I have had him for two classes. This summer term, he seemed a bit preoccupied when teaching. He made a few mistakes when putting problems up on the board. He had to constantly correct himself and mention that he made a mistake. This is the first time that he has been a bit "flighty" for a class.

He understands that Calculus can be difficult for most students and explains difficult math concepts in a way that one can understand.
Austin Anderson provided the students with many opportunities to be successful in class. He answered many questions with considerable intelligence and allowed the students to make sure that they understand the material that is being covered. Generally, Professor Anderson showed his willingness to help out any student who might have trouble with any problems and he explains the ways to solve them in the most concise way. Another important benefit that I have with him as my instructor is the ability to communicate with other students and get them to participate in the class activities. The lesson plans that he brings to class daily really works out well for many students because they are hands-on approaches that essentially help out with every situation. On some days, the main activity might be a lecture and some others might involve a worksheet that covers the concepts which are going to be on the homework assignment. But the major point is that the activity provides a better picture of what is being demonstrated within the section.
Mr. Anderson is a very knowledgeable teacher. He does a great job at explaining the objective of the subject matter and thoroughly explains reasonings to why things need to be done. He also does numerous examples of the section.
He was able to translate techniques for dealing with math problems into very understandable terms. Even with coming into the class with little to no foundation in calculus, he encouraged students to work together in order to learn easier during worksheet sessions.

Don't assign even number problems, its easier to learn as you go when you can check answers as you go--builds a stronger base.
The only change that I suggest to Austin Anderson is making sure that there are no mistakes when it comes to correcting homework and exams. Sometimes I noticed that there might be a few questions that are marked wrong even though they might be correct. So I think it would be a good idea for Professor Anderson to take his time correcting the work to minimize these errors.

Professor Anderson wants to make sure that every student understands the concepts of Calculus because there are many rules found within this level of Math that are new to many students. He does this by doing several examples that are covered and going over them after the students listen to the lecture. Occasionally, Professor Anderson gives a question to the class and they answer it with similar approaches.
He always asked us if there is anything we do not understand. And if there is something a student does not catch on to, he explains it again in another way. He also reminds us nearly every other day that he is available for tutoring during his office hours.
He always answered any questions or concerns and even stayed pass the end of class in order to help students with any problems they may be having with homework.

i would highly recommend him to anyone, math majors, or anyone else who just needs to get through a few math courses. im sure anyone would enjoy his class whether or not they like math.
Yes and no. Yes because he is really a nice, funny guy and the atmosphere he creates in his class makes it a comfortable environment and you don't feel embarrassed for asking questions, and because he's smart, and you can tell he's smart... But, no because his lesson plan is kind of messy and unorganized, so if structure helps, he doesn't.

I would highly recommend Austin Anderson to other students because he is an excellent Math teacher who really knows the ideas and concepts very well. Usually when I have a question, he is willing and able to provide in-depth, concise answers that really help me understand the ideas of Algebra and Calculus. Furthermore, Professor Anderson is very outgoing and enthusiastic about the topics that are covered in class and he is definitely passionate working with the students. Professor Anderson has provided many strategies that has helped students with their math questions. For many sections, he would specifically talk about what equations are important to solving the problem that they are given. After every equation gets solved, he would go over the answers to make sure that everyone followed the same steps. Moreover, Professor Anderson displayed a very intelligent and relaxed approach that really helped me get through any difficulties that I might have regarding the material that was covered. When many students talked to him on some questions, he provided a complete explanation of how and why the answer turned out to be in that situation. In that case, I believed that Professor Anderson really understood many of the concerns that some people might have on the material that was being covered.

The only change that I suggest to Professor Anderson is to make the homework assignments on paper instead of online. I understand that online homework is a great option to have because it helps provide the step by step process in solving an equation but I think it would be better for some students to use paper in some way so that if they did not have any access to a computer, the assigned homework might be completed on time.
The book was a little hard to follow...it seemed like it might have been easier to teach the subject and the concepts using either a different book, or maybe even just the mymathlab.
Major changes in presentation. I don't know if it's because he get's nervous or if he's still inexperienced as a teacher, but the material is just so difficult to understand. More than half the time throughout this course, we hear "um" and "uh" during every lecture with awkward silences in-between and we are correcting the mistakes he writes on the board during lectures (which further confuses most of us). In the beginning of the course, he mentions that we must show our work, but he contradicts himself by not showing any work in the lectures, skipping steps, making us wonder how he gets numbers on all his problems. I spent 2/3 of the course looking at my "high school math notes" than paying attention in class, because even my notes looked more understandable than what he was teaching.
I would suggest that maybe he practices how to explain the math material before he comes to class. I could tell he really knew his stuff, there's no doubt about that. However, when it came to trying to teach the material to us, at times it was kind of confusing. I know people make mistakes, but teachers should try to make as little as possible. He made a few math mistakes which could be really confusing for us as students in the long run. Also, please make sure that when you are doing equations on the board, you do not skip any steps what so ever because it could confuse the student veryyy easily.
PLEASE ask the students questions and have us answer problems during class to encourage participation.

Professor Anderson worked closely with the students to make sure that they completely understand the material. He did this by fully explaining what the approachesto take when considering each type of problem that is given. Sometimes, the strategy that I used was very familiar and on other occasions,it seemed new and difficult to understand. But Professor Anderson was able to put the questions that the students have into an interesting lesson that has inspired the entire class to intently listen and apply when completing the homework. Professor Anderson also gave extra credit to people who wanted to increase their scores on one of the exams. This really was a creative idea to help students understand some of the mistakes that they might have made during the exam and practice for the Final Exam. So I thought that Professor Anderson provided the class with opportunities that benefited the students.

I would definitely recommend Professor Anderson to any student who is interested in taking any type of Math class because he possesses an intellingent mind and a relaxed personality that has been successful in teaching the students. Professor Anderson has shown his willingness and ability to work with students who might have a difficult time trying to comprehend the concepts and trying to solve them on their own. He provides excellent advice that I thought is essential to having a strong foundation in future Math classes. Furthermore, Professor Anderson has provided the class with many opportunities to get a good grade. One example of this happened when he gave an extra credit assignment that helped increase some people's test scores. I thought that it was a creative apporach that has provided benefits for many people. So I thought that Professor Anderson really listened to the students needs and made sure that everyone tried their best in the class.

Umm, I'm sorry Mr. A, you're a really nice person and super flexible and understanding, but since I'm more of a visual learner, I did not enjoy this class as much. You need to make sure that you put every single little step in there to make sure the student has an easy way to connect how you got from this problem, to this answer. Since he is not the greatest speaker, he should really work on this, and I think students would enjoy this class way more. *But when showing every single little step, keep in mind what is "duh" to us.

I would like to sincerely thank Professor Anderson for being my instructor during Spring and Iam looking forward to participating in his Summer class. There have been many things that I learned from him over the past 4 months, ranging from knowing and understanding equations and their graphs to trigonometry that involved many different geometric shapes such as the unit circle and triangles.
You have potential to be a really great teacher. Just maybe work on speaking, gathering thoughts and then try to not miss any steps (even the little ones) when solving a problem (we're not always as smart as you!). But besides that, you're a breath of fresh air when it comes to strict math teachers.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Very good teacher, awesome logical explanations makes you fully understand the concepts.
He is very kind and considerate. He has a good teaching skill.
Being relaxed makes everyone else relaxed. He answers questions right away instead of waiting. Is a nice person to learn from. Wants to help when he can. Asks for questions.
His extensive knowlege of the material, and that he could relate the material in different ways. That helped cater to the different ways individual students understood the material.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None!
Use of a phone.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He was always available to explain anything you needed him to.
His teaching skill is good for international students because I can understand all of thing in the class.
Office hours. Giving people a break when mistakes happen.

Yes, the guy is genuinely a good guy.
Definetly. The time he took during in class workshops to make sure students were understanding the material and the way he could explain it made it easy to calculus easy to understand.

18. Other comments:
After taking Calculus I at Windward Community College and failing after studying hard I came to KCC where I think the Calculus I program is really good, way better. Dr Anderson is a really good teacher and I learned so much and I now understand Calculus very well
School needs to be run in such a way where it can teach students that money isn't everything. Actually get them to not even think about the money. Also I think it would be a good idea if we could keep security on the campus but keep it so that the students are able to be as free thinking as possible without hurting anyone. Sometimes I would stay on campus and I might sleep on the grass. But I would be told to wake up. Or quit loitering. Well. This is a form of self expression as well I think. It just gives the person time to think. Without going all the way back home to think. Home is were the heart is so. Just saying could be a little more lenient.
