7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
In class oral practice and oral quizzes were the most valuable.
The teacher motivates his students
I thought that the example dialogues were really helpful/valuable for the course. It really helped me with my Japanese speaking as well as helped me prepare for my oral exams. I also thought that Sensei Kubota's powerpoint lectures were really valuable because it helped me know what I needed to look out for and learn.
The daily oral practice with conversation dialogues
Oral practices for every lesson! Allowed me to be able to communicate better in japanese because we frequently had to converse with classmates in japanese. I believe that if you don't any speaking knowledge of a language, taking the course becomes practically useless. Kubota sensei made sure we knew how to converse in japanese !
Everything
His teaching style made me remember all that i needed!

8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

Grammar lectures and oral practice that were made fun.
Grammar and kanji.
å??ç?? made powerpoint slides for each lesson to help learn and review each. These are very helpful and i enjoyed learning from this method. There were also dialog practice using new grammar we learned in class so we could review everything. å??ç?? was also very open to questions and tried to explain everything to the best of his ability.

Like all language classes, everything is very quick pace.
I think understanding the difference between group 1,2,and 3 verbs in the beginning of the semester would have helped learning grammar easier. There should be a refresher for the first two days on that.

Definitely helped with being able to communicate and form sentences better. Role playing and having a communication partner was effective.
I liked the in-class practice sessions. This helped develope more confidence in speaking the language.

Great!!!!!
Made a good teacher, was flexible and available to students during and after class. Readily explained cultural and grammatical notes and was able to answer questions students posed. Would recommend having him teach another Japanese class whether it be the same one or a different course level. Encouraged students and also made students feel comfortable with the language even if they were having difficulties.

I liked his class...
Really enjoyed the course - enjoyed it much more than the previous Japanese classes taken in secondary school. Definitely got more out of this course and has seen improvement in being able to converse in Japanese.

5. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Kubota's interest in his students. He was always willing to help when ever needed. His use of Power point presentations was really useful and made it easy to study at home.
Learning Japanese. More specifically, the different tenses and how to conjugate. Also Kubota-sensei was open to random questions and would sometimes reply even if it was late at night.
The in-class exercises helped me a lot.
I could learn basic grammar and expression through this class
learned at a good pace but it did get harder and harder throughout the semester everything i learned was pretty valuable
Every part of it. The way Kubota approached teaching us a new language in reading, writing, and speaking was easy to understand and fun to learn. I learned a lot.
I believe everything was the valuable in my case. I believe all the moments he taught teaching us and communicating with us helped us grow more interesting in Japanese as a language.
The most valuable aspect of the course were the lectures. It was very interactive and fun that I enjoyed coming to class everyday. In addition, the lectures were important because each day there was a new lesson and I always learned something that can be useful for the test or orals.
The activities were a good way to practice sentence structures. Excellent visuals helped in understanding material. Review sessions were helpful in preparing for the lesson quizzes.
The professor was really helpful during office hours. He explained things well.
The powerpoint slides were very helpful because he posted them every night on Laulima and we were able to reference them while we studied for our tests.
6. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Sometimes I felt that in class practice deemed useless. Not because it was a bad teaching tool it was that most of the time you would have one student who wanted to practice but their partner did not.
Can't think of anything.
i don't think so
i do wish i learned more conversational japanese
....
Nothing was not valuable in this class. Everything we learned showed up somewhere in test or quizzes or exams. Everthing was very useful.
Many of the aspects in this course are important, so I can't pinpoint any unvaluable aspect. I believe that all the aspects of the course are equally important in order to get a better understanding of Japanese and to get the most out of the course.
None.
None. Everything we learned and all of the tools and handouts that were given to us were extremely useful.

17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Overall review is excellent. I really wish he was my professor next semester. It is sad that UH is losing such a fine teacher and overall good person.
Very good teacher. Would definitely take his class again if I ever have the chance (without failing of course).
I would definitely recommend this professor to others.
He is a great teacher. He helps his students and gives many great and funny examples of each thing he teaches. He is available everyday after school or via email. and always make an effort to help his students.

I would always recommend him to other students to take his Japanese 101 class. He's funny, friendly, happy, easy to talk and cares. You could say I see him as a perfect teacher.
Nobuo Kubota is a great Japanese teacher. He's very knowledgeable about the Japanese language that he could answer many of the questions we had in class. Even the random things that we were just curious about. In addition, he was always willing to help students outside of class hours in order to do better on tests or orals. Lastly, I like that he is a very understanding teacher because there were times that I had conflicts that I had to take care of and couldn't come to class. Overall, Nobuo Kubota is an awesome teacher and I would highly recommend him to other students that are interested in learning about the Japanese language.
Very good teacher. He makes sure everything taught is understandable and his class is very well-organized. Very friendly, makes the class fun and interesting everyday.
Very good teacher. My interest grew.
He is a great teacher and if he were not leaving to go back to Japan, I would definitely sign up to take another Japanese language course with him. He is a passionate instructor who really wants to help those willing to further their knowledge of the Japanese language and culture. I would highly recommend him as a teacher and anyone who takes his class in the future will learn a lot!

If it were not for Kubota I do believe I would have given up on learning Japanese but his attitude and eagerness to help gave me the faith that I could learn this hard language. I am glad I decided to stick it out and meet with him on a regular basis. He always answered emails in a timely manner. He took his job as a sensei very seriously. Hope to see him again in the future.
He needs other costumes besides Buddha and Mario for Halloween!
Keep doing what your doing.
My first semester of Japanese was unforgettable. I had a lot of fun while learning about Japanese in class. Sensei Kubota inspired me to work harder and to not give up on learning the Japanese language. Thank you for all the great memories, have fun in Japan, and I hope to see you again in the future. (:
