Kumu Lalepa is a treasure. He is very receptive to change and adapts the lesson for all learning types. I wish the book was updated and was geared rapid language absorption. I think that the structure of the course could be improved to optimize accelerated language utilization. Handouts with pictures and the vocabulary. Contextual based lessons, i.e., "things in the house", "seasons + weather", "colors", "things you do in the morning", etc...

The best teacher I have had at the university. Genuinely cares for the subject as well as his students. Never wanted to see anyone do poorly and did what he could to prevent that.

Maika'i loa keia papa 'oelo hawai'i. He kumu maika'i loa 'o Lalepa.

Ralph Koga or "Lalepa" is one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic professor I have ever came across. I hope he teaches at the University of Hawaii Manoa for a very long time because I would recommend him to any student. We have classes every weekday for 50 minutes and each classes is just as enjoyable as the next. He is truly a wonderful teacher who I feel actually cares about his students' success.

Awesome teacher! He is easy to understand and helps with difficulties. I would recommend if taking Hawaiian to take Koga's class.

22. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?

He had office hours on the weekends which was very helpful. That was one of my favorite things about his class.

His knowledge of the subject and that he always challenged us as students to strive for perfection.

Aside from course content, he would go off on interesting tangents that taught me a lot about Hawaiian culture, the origins of words, and the why behind the why of sentence patterns, trains of thought etc.

His knowledge of not only the language herself, but also his knowledge behind the vocabulary and the culture and relating everything to the language. HÅ« ka maikaÊ»i ona. He kumu Ê»oluÊ»olu maoli nÅ?, a maiau.

He was a great professor because he really cares about the students. I would take all my hawaiian classes from him if I could.

The only thing that I would like to comment on is that the work given to us is somewhat a little extensive. Indeed in challenged me, but I felt that due to the workload in this class, some of my other classes were affected.

One of the best Hawaiian Language teachers! No Ka 'Oi!!!

Best class of my semester. Extremely well-prepared for class, made class interesting, engaging, and I learned a lot. Strict grader, but thatÊ»s what helped me to be more meticulous when doing hmwk/assignments. Awesome teacher, wish he was teaching 302!

Kumu Lalepa is an awesome teacher, he goes above and beyond for his students, even meets outside of class hours and on the weekends too. He is an amazing resource because of his own studies and truly cares about his students.He not only teaches the language but incorporates Hawaiian history into his lessons and challenges his students to become scholars not only in Hawaiian language and culture but in other avenues as well, in Hawaiian thought and in the Hawaiian medium.

He was able to connect our lessons to the larger picture. It made it easy to find value in the topic. It may have been lost on some of my fellow classmates but when I understood the deeper objectives of the task, it was encouraging to try my best.

The instructor was very knowledgeable and able to explain all aspects of the language. The instructor did a most excellent job of applying these language skills in real-life situations where they are needed outside the classroom (with practical excercises). The instructor was very understanding to the diversity of student needs.

He takes the time to make sure I understand everything fully.

He made me feel comfortable to contribute in class, even though I am not as comfortable speaking Hawaaiian as other students. It was fascinating to learn the language by studying the history of Hawaii as written by S M Kamakau. The ability to read a such challenging material has made it easier for me to comprehend Hawaiian as written by other authors. I am inspired to continue to learn the language of my kupuna.

He not only emphasizes the language, but also the history, culture, and for all students to understand the way Hawaiians think. He is extrememly knowledgable and information he gave us was very interesting.

He is knowledgeable about the material and language structure. I like how he teaches through historical accounts.

Kumu is always available to help out his haumana. He always gives ample time to complete assignments and is very fair in his grading. He sets high standards which really challenged us but it showed that he has a lot of faith in his students.

Sometimes he forgets the assignments that were given in previous classes.

sarcasm. sometimes its funny, sometimes itÊ»s not.

Sometimes class was a little slow because he had to repeat things numerous time for other students.
