9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
|
| Learning how disparities are measured, getting help writing our proposal |
| The time without the first years to discuss housekeeping things specifically for us. |
| I have developed my dissertation proposal draft guided by this seminar class. It was very effective to transition my ideas into creation of research proposal. |
| All was valuable. Lit. review a very difficult, but enlightening, exercise. |
| Readings, students leading the class to present on readings, and speakers. Every aspect was
important and much appreciated. |

15. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|

| I wouldn't mind if Kathryn gave us a few lectures, maybe to introduce each of the different sections
of readings. |
| Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this class. If I need to mention one area for improvement, I am suggesting that the instructor can add supplemental articles including practical applications of mix methods. |
| Dr. Braun is wonderful! No changes needed. Expectations from her were clear and she was always
very encouraging and helpful. I learned a great deal and am a better student because of the class. |

7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
|
| The pace of the course was valuable in that it was very challenging, but a realistic approach to work in academia. |
| Being in class with the other cohort of doctoral students.
Hearing from past doctoral students was great - but wish their presentations would focus more on process/lessons learned instead of their dissertation results.
The journal articles and real life cases to support core concepts. Also having a textbook was helpful, to have an organized source for the core concepts. |
| The professor have inspired students to study further beyond the curriculum and think deeply of their research project. She also provided resourceful data to students before asking her. She seemed to know what thresholds and barriers which students face with and overcome. In a nutshell, the course led and facilitated by the professor was excellent. |
| Presentations on the readings |
| Guidance and focus on big paper |
| The review of literature, even though it was a pain, was helpful. Readings were also good. |

13. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|
| The feedback during the course, especially the writing critiques, were invaluable with respect to crafting a systematic review of literature. |
| Instead of having students lead the discussion on the Campbell & Stanley readings, I think it would have been helpful to have more guidance on the different study designs. The student discussion leaders didn't have much clarity on the material so it would have been less of a struggle to get a lecture by Dr. Braun to supplement. |
| Wish other students would be more participatory, such as with discussions. Also, wish they would put in more effort when they are assigned readers for the week.
Given intent of the course ("evidence-based" public health), maybe more real life examples of evidence-based programs. There are also evidence-based registries, etc. Could look at these so-called evidence-based programs and evaluate them according to the core concepts. |

16. Other comments:
|
| Kathryn was great as usual - supportive, enthusiastic. |
| There were a lot of readings... Sometimes it took away from going in depth for some of the articles or topics. |
