Professor Mills is very knowledgable in her field and has been a great teacher. I really like that she takes the time to help students on assignments and to understand the concepts in class. She also takes the suggestions students gives and utilizes them to help the class.

Judith Mills is a great professor. It is a challenging course and she challenges her students with the material. it is for this fact that I believe she may get negative reviews (because many students want an easy course). I enjoyed the course and Professor Mills.
Hands down the best professor at UH. No this is not an easy class, nor will any other class I have with her, but she makes you learn the material. Regardless of your major the entire class is engaged, and I loved this class thanks Mills. See you next semester. JB
Goes way too fast some days, a lot of content condensed into a small period of time. Very hard to follow along at times. But very kind and helpful when I visited her during office hours.
She is very knowledgeable about this course, but she was expect a little bit too much for 314 student, if you are not in finance or accounting major, you will have some hard time in this class, but is really help if you go to her office hour. strong recommend if you are finance major.
Grading was a problem, where it is graded on answer an no thought process. someone would be able to copy an answer and receive full credit if they wanted to. I also didn't receive help for whatever reason, other than "did you get it."
Professor Mills is a tough teacher but she is more than willing to help her students, she listens to suggestions and puts a lot of effort into her lectures
I found the handouts given for the class to be very helpful for the test. However, although the assignments are the things we learn in class and are expected to know for the test, I did not find the assignments helpful for test preparation. The multiple choice questions are extremely tricky. I felt prepared for the math related problems, but when it came to the multiple choice I thought I understood it and had the right answers, but turn out I got half of the multiple choice wrong! I know there is a lot to cover, but we move so fast in this class, it was hard to keep up.
Professor Mills has been one of the hardest, scariest and most intimidating teachers that I have ever had. That being said I cannot wait to take another course from her. She pushed us to truly understand the material and do the best work possible. Although challenging Professor Mill`s class has been my favorite of the business core classes at Shidler and I am lucky to have had her as a teacher.
This course isn't easy and some have said it is difficult, but Professor Mills gives us the information on a level that even I can understand - I was quite nervous about this course and the many equations that we would be responsible for knowing. Not to mention that I had no clue about what I would be learning. I continue to be surprised that I don't just memorize the information, but that I really understand it. I think a lot of that has to do with Professor Mills teaching style and how real she is from the very beginning. She is upfront with the fact that she won't be dumbing down the material, but rather she expects us to rise to the occasion. Not every student will appreciate the knowledge and experience, but I did. I am glad that I chose to take BUS 314 with Professor Mills because it has truly been eye opening. I wish more teachers had her tenacity and gumption to push us to excel and push ourselves to do better. You ROCK Professor Mills!!! Thanks for all your help.
One of the best at Shidler for sure. Learned so much. Challenging, but so helpful. I'll remember what I learned forever. I really internalized all of the material and I feel more confident discussing finance with professionals and my peers. I wish I had time to be a Finance major.
Most challenging but rewarding classes I've taken at Shidler so far. Please have more quality professors like Mills. Many of them I've taken so far are a joke. This is one of the few professors I can count on a hand that was actually a good professor.
She is a great professor, but too fast paced for non-finance major students, and the class kicked my ass :(
She is a tough cookie. I decided to the take this 314 class because I heard it was the, "not the easy A class, but you would learn alot." Even though my grade is not greatest, I do not regret the class. Finance is not my strong point, but the Prof has made me interested in taking more finance clasess. The material was very well taught. The assignments were clear. She was very helpful. In her own cool way she is intimadating. She goes really fast in class. If you can't catch up in class, practice at home. Hardest exams I have ever taken. Multiple choices are difficult. You really have to think because the answers are tricky. I feel attached to my financial calcultor after this class.
Even though I might not have got the best grade overall, I learned a lot about finance and plan on utilizing this knowledge in the near future.
I feel Judith Mills was unable to explain topics conceptually. She seems to rely on formulas to teach rather than giving a conceptual view of the topic. Some students are conceptual learners and need a further explanation rather than just giving the students a formula to memorize.
Very condescending instructor. Not helpful in class, however very helpful in office. Needs to spend more time during class hours explaining concepts and providing relevant examples so students understand the material. would never take this instructor ever again!
Hands down one of the best professors in Shidler. Judith Mills is exceptionally knowledgeable in her area which makes learning enjoyable and fun. The course was nothing short of challenging which made learning even more interesting. Thank you very much, Professor Mills!
I usually don't take the time to write in these comment boxes, but Professor Mills is by far, the best professor I have had during my entire time at the UHM. The Shidler College of Business is truly lucky to have her and should quite honestly give her a bigger office (despite not being tenured) due to the high volume of students who are constantly trying to squeeze in her tiny office in order to learn and absorb her knowledge. Students who don't agree that she is a good professor most likely did not meet her halfway and it is truly their loss.

Professor Mills's course is challenging but I've learned a lot from her and would recommend her as a professor. Because of this course I've changed my major to Finance.
Loved this class. The reason why I changed my major to finance.
Professor Mills has been one of the most challenging professors that I've had. She is a great professor because she expects us to perform at a higher standard. I enjoyed her class because her class primarily applies the basic concepts to everyday life situations. When I had a difficult time, she was more than willing to help out and would always check up on me in class to ensure that I understood the material. I would recommend Professor Mills to other students, such a wonderful professor.

Mills is a good teacher and really wants you to learn the topics. However, tests can be pretty hard and you may or may not have time to finish the problems. The class was also generally pretty hard as you compare it to the other BUS314 classes but Mills would try her best to help out everyone.
Prof. Mills is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. All I have to say is that she knows her stuff! Additionally, she is very passionate about what she teaches and it shows by the way she goes out of her way to make sure students understand the material.
I was told when I registered for Ms. Mills class that it would be extremely difficult and that I would probably be afraid of her. Quite to the contrary, Ms. Mills is by far one of the best teachers I have had in my life. She takes the time to individually make sure each of her students understand the subject matter. She recognizes every one of her students. I have seen her find a new student in her class when he came to sit in. I personally did not even notice that he was not normally in the class but she noticed and took the time to find out what he was doing in her class. When he told her he was interested in finding out how the class was she immediately told him that he was more than welcome to stay she just did not recognize him and wanted to make sure she knew everyone of her students. She provides her students with all the means they need to do well in her class. She also makes herself easily available as a resource for help when her students need it. She makes all of her classes fun. She says hi to her students outside of class. My only complaint is I only use this finance book to keep my laptop from overheating because she provided me with everything I needed to do well in her class. What a looker ;)
Professor Mills is very knowledgeable about the material, however, her tests are unfairly difficult. She had to give extra credit for each exam because the majority of the class received a failing grade. To me, this would prove the exams are too difficult. There is never enough time to finish the exams and the homework assignment are extremely lengthily and difficult. Although she is willing to work with you in her office hours, this would have to be the only course you are taking to be able to work with her as much as you need to and receive a high grade in the course.
Professor Mills knows and teaches this subject very well. Finance isn't my thing so it is very difficult for me to learn and understand. But she's an excellent professor overall.

Professor Mills is a great teacher. The material can get difficult but she teaches it really well and her office is always open for students who need help.
Professor Mills knows a lot about finance. If you are a finance major, I definitely recommend taking her class. She teaches you valuable information necessary to become successful business students. Great course!

Taking Finance 314 with Professor Mills has provided me with an extremely strong foundation as I start my path as a finance major. I am confident that I know finance and have acquired good study habits as a result of the class. Furthermore, Professor Mills has been a great help not only in the classroom but outside the classroom during her office hours. I have met with her multiple times to clarify points in lectures and for help on assignments. I strongly recommed taking Professor Mills to anyone who asks.
Professor Mills is one of the best professors that I have ever had. She is the type of professor where you just want to write down everything she says when she speaks because she has such a wealth of knowledge about the course.
It is really hard to keep up with her at the rate she goes for a difficult class. The book didn't help much either so I couldn't go home and learn it. Expects a little too might from students who have jobs and other classes and obligations.
I think that Professor Mills is one of the best teachers I have had thus far in my schooling. I failed to pass this class last semester under another professor. That class was taught much differently and most of the assignments were online. Mills's class is a highly intensive hands on approach to finance. I believe that this class is taught the right way.
Hands down best teacher at Shidler! and what a looker! ;)

First off, I want to say that Professor Mills is hands down my favorite professor at Shidler. If there were any other classes offered under her tutelage, I would enroll in a heartbeat. I would even retake her classes just because she is that awesome. Professor Mills has definitely made a positive impact in my life, and I could not have been the person I am today without her guidance. I LOVE MILLS! This was one of the best classes I've taken throughout college. I actually felt like I was in college and doing college level work for once. I learned A LOT, without this class I really feel like I wouldn't have as good of a grasp on finance as I do now. Everything I pretty much know about corporate finance is because of this class and I'm glad I took it. Thank you professor! It was a hard semester but it was definitely rewarding! :D
Professor Mills gives great insight into the class materials. This class, instructed by professor Mills is highly recommended for anyone in finance. Professor Mills is a great teacher who challenges you, while giving you the support you need, to succeed in this class and in the financial industry.
The course was very difficult, but I don't regret taking it at all. This course was especially helpful because these cases are situations that try to replicate what could happen in the real world (although on a smaller scale).
The only reason why I have indicated that I am neutral on how much I learned is because I have outside circumstances that affected my ability to absorb the information. She has gone above and beyond her duty as a professor and sat down with me to discuss my problems and what could be done. She is an excellent professor and a role model. She genuinely cares about her students and their education. This was my favourite and most challenging class of the semester.
This is my favorite class that I've ever taken at Shidler. Professor Mills demands the most and the best from her students but is there to guide them along the way. I recommend this class to anyone who is serious about learning finance.
Mrs. Mills is an excellent teacher especially in the field of finance. She offers valuable insight on how to appropriately handle different situations businesses and corporations face in their operations. I value her perspective and time dedicated to the course. I intend to use the skills and knowledge I learned from the course throughout my business career and life. This was a difficult class but Mrs. Mills is able to provide students with the proper tools to be enhance their knowledge and be successful. Thanks for such a great semester!!!

Professor Mills was extremely knowledgeable and demonstrated a significant care for her students learning. I believe that her class should be a pre-req for all finance majors.
Professor Mills is fair, knowledgeable, and helpful to all her students. Taking her class has taught me more than any other Finance class in Shidler. I would take her class again in a heartbeat.
I felt as though because I did not take Professor Mills BUS314 class that I was behind from the beginning. Great class with real world issues and definitely a class that I will remember and go back to as the stepping stone to launch my career. I thought sometimes lessons could have been more in depth as to how to calculate a lot of the cases, but overall I believe this class is meant to push you. Short time lines with lots of calculation and professional writing can add a lot of stress when most students are working and commuting. Professor Mills was always available for further instruction outside of the class and I appreciated that.
Stricter requirements to get students to actively participate. Some students cop out by only agreeing. Assign one student to always play the devils advocate. Students seem to respond to one another better than when the professor presents a topic for debate.
Mills is one of the best teachers at shidler. I wish I could have taken more classes from her!

Hard class, but definitely a good teacher. She is very knowledgeable in the subject and teaches well. She is also helpful outside of class. It is just a hard subject for some people to grasp.
Please slow down a bit during lectures, especially during Excel sections. Even if we understand the material well, we still need time to make sure we have the right numbers.
Very demanding course, but Professor Mills was always willing to help.
This class definitely requires students to go in for help. The assignments are difficult for students who don't have a strong base in accounting.

Dr. Mills had a great way of teaching. I loved and greatly appreciated the assignments. I know it was hard on her grading-wise, but it was THE best learning about finance. I think sometimes we rush too fast but hey there's a ton of information to cover. I loved her openness to help student in office hours. I was quite shame to go to her but she made me feel really easy. She even tried to connect with me by commenting on my Porsche desktop. I loved having her as my teacher. She always said to "ask me the questions, I'm getting paid." It was worth every dollar. I enjoyed her class and I enjoyed finance.
Professor Mills Wong is clearly very knowledgeable in finance, but moves way too fast for many students I've spoken to. Unfortunately very few people speak up in class so I understand why she does, if she's not getting feedback to slow down. I spend more time trying to make sure my excel numbers match with hers and I miss the concept, the big picture of what each particular excel exercise is for. The textbook is very difficult to read. The first couple lessons I read the entire chapters, but it was taking me several hours to get through each chapter, it seems too in-depth for a managerial level finance course. Overall though, I like Professor Mills Wong. She is very frank and to the point about what you're doing right or wrong. I also like how she has students sit up front to fill in the excel cases. This gets us to really participate. The six case assignments are also very good exercises and thorough in reinforcing the class material. I hope it is indicative of what is on the final exam.
Sometimes Professor Mills rushed through concepts, which made it hard to learn and I had to learn much of the material on my own. But mahalo for a great semester Profesor Mills!
First, let me list the positive note. The professor was a very good lecturer. If there is one thing that really displeased me about the professor, however, it was that the grading was biased. For those that wonder why I say this, let me start by saying, on nearly all assignments, the professor instructed students to work together and compare answers to make sure we do it correctly. Therefore, many times students turned in homework with exactly the same answer. (I know this because I saw the homework of several classmates before it was turned in and after it was graded) In several instances, however, even if two students had the same answers wrong, the final grade could be different by 5-10% (one student may receive 9.5/10 and the other a 9/10, even for the same answers). I know this because when we received our homework back, I would ask my classmates what they got and check to see that we had the same things marked wrong, and even when we have the same things marked incorrect, the final grade would be different. Keep in mind, I'm not upset that I got marked off on errors I made. I accept responsibility for my mistakes. I am, however, upset that the grading was not consistent. If the professor wants to take a point off my assignment for an error, thats fine with me, but do it the same to everyone else that makes the same error. I find if funny that in other classes in the MBA program (BUS626,BUS627,BUS628) the professors preach about the importance of equal treatment, but then courses like this dont practice it. Therefore, here is my fair warning to the college. If grading is biased again, the college will not receive any alumni support from me in the future. Biased grading has happened in other courses (MGT645 is an example: all assignments were team assignments without any way to determine who did what in the assignments, and yet the final grade was different between members in the team) I will not support a college or a program that allows this type of unjust behavior.

I consider this class among the most valuable classes I have taken in the MBA program, and the professor does a lot to make the information understandable for someone with no background in the area.
Professor Mills is obviously very competent and highly enthusiastic about the course material. Her expertise in the area is very apparent. However, I feel that her expertise may be the reason that she is not as receptive to questions from her students. On multiple occassions, she seemed visibly irritated with students that had a less than average proficiency in Excel. Or was non- receptive to questions from students that have no business background at all. In class, she tended to be abrasive towards those that did have questions. The speed in which the class is taught is extremely fast for those with no business background. In a one-on-one setting, she is more open to questions and is extremely helpful. However, her demeanor is class was very off-putting and discouraged any questions for clarification.
Since it is an evening class, and some of us come from a non-finance background, we have struggled with the lateness and the lower energy levels that are a result from a long working day. Despite these externalities, I found myself learning alot from class room discussion and the presentations by Prof. Mills. She has laid a strong basic foundation in finance for us and I only regret that this class was held just once a week; I felt that I needed more class sessions to be able to truly grasp the essence of this course.

Best course in the finance department that I have ever taken.
Mills is hands down my favorite teacher out of all the college courses I've ever taken, and by far the best teacher in Shidler. Unlike most professors which simply try to teach their students career related material, Mills pushes us to take real life scenarios and apply our business minds to solving these problems in a realistic manner. If I could reference a biblical metaphor to describe Mills teaching style compared to other teachers: Unlike other professors who simply try to give us fish to quell our hunger, Mills focuses on teaching us how to fish so we can feed ourselves after we graduate. Sorry for not participating as much as you'd like but I'm a fan of listening rather than speaking

Best. Class. Ever. I learned more in this one course than all the other finance classes I've taken combined. The cases presented a more realistic scenario to apply this skills we've learned. I gained critical thinking as well as business writing skills and a bit more confidence when speaking in front of a class. It was terrifying, I lost sleep, cried once, and I recommended the course to all of my friends. I have honestly never tried so hard in any of my other classes. I feel more prepared to go out and apply my skills in the real world, thank you Professor!
Pros: - Learned and grew in skill a lot from this course. - Gained friends along the way. - Learned to provide assumptions in financial analyses and "get away with it" - as long as you explain, you may have assumptions to the extent that they are not absurd. Cons: - Should rename the class to FIN305: Applied BUS314. - Doing thing on the exams vs case studies were much more different from each other than anticipated. Suggestions: - Keep it the same way you are doing now. - Do not let anyone else teach this class - Prof. Mills only please. - Suggest to students to take this class IMMEDIATELY after BUS314 if they are in finance. It was a slow start for me to take this class after a semester break from BUS314 (or any Prof. Mills class). - Provide a practice exam (eg: prev year exams) where students can practice doing problems by hand. Doing cases via excel is much more flexible and easier than by hand (a single calculator; no computer). - Get a PC Prof. Mills! - Nah just joking. We know you love your Mac. lol.

The most valuable aspect of the course would really have to be the assignments. Although everyone grumbled about them and I lost quite a bit of sleep due to agonizing over them, I feel that it really helped me understand the material more. I am really glad I took the suggestion of my friends and took this class because although I had to work hard, I was able to learn a lot. Whether or not I'll remember everything, I'm not sure.

Professor Mills is the best! Even though I'm not doing well in the class, I like it. I think finance does not really interest me, but because Professor Mills is teaching us, I am okay.
Professor is very knowledgeable but goes extremely fast and doesn't show that she cares if the students are understanding the material. She is available for help and is actually very helpful and kind when you work with her, but she is very different in the classroom setting which is intimidating and hard to follow.

Professor Mills is probably the best instructor I've ever taken a class from in my four years at UHM. I've learned more about finance and business in general from taking her BUS 314 and FIN 305 classes than I have in any other class Ive taken at Shidler. The case study format was an excellent way to cover the material and foster a genuine interest in identifying all the relevant details. While I was apprehensive about the online format at first, it became a very comfortable and effective way to discuss the content. It is nice to be able to return to a class transcript and review complex topics. The degree of student interation in this class was far greater than many of the "group project" oriented classes we have taken to date. Dr. Mills is a great facilitator was able to steer the discussion toard the most interesting tidbits without dominating the conversation.
Basing the class on case studies that were complex enought ot illustrate the material being covered. Doing the case studies in parallel with studying Managerial Finance helped illuminate key concepts and underline the subtleties of finance in real-world applications

The text was a good choice for this class. The requirement of student presentation of the cases was comfortable way to wade through challenging concepts. The obligation of leading a discussion on a foreign topic is a terrific method of motivating students to perform the requisite research and thereby develop a thorough understanding of the subject area. The order of cases that Dr. Mills selected was well synchronized with BUS629 and allowed us to tackle some advanced concepts that would otherwise have been overlooked. This was the best class I have taken thus far in the NIMBA program. I can only hope there will be similar opportunities for "directed reading" in this format and that other professors are as adventurous as Dr. Mills.
The format of the course was highly conducive to learning, and the small class size with a selected set of students made it possible to set the bar high and move quickly. This was a great class, one of the most interesting and informative of all the classes taken in my MBA. I really appreciate the willingness of the instructor to offer the course, and her deep involvement in the actual class. I think this format: real world case studies, small class size, students selected for aptitude and willingness to learn, parallel theoretical class (in finance) and well prepared, energetic and enthusiastic instructor created an excellent learning opportunity. It was very well done.
