The convenience of the course. I liked that I didnot have to commute.

It was a good first experience for an online course.

it is valuable.

i enjoyed the class but because it was a summer course it was very difficult to retain all of the information. It is also a very intensive work load in a short amount of time. I would recommend this class during the regular school year.

I would have to say after experience this online course I am more open to taking online courses in the future and learning more about how to conduct them myself. Overall was a good experience thanks to Leslie.

Before the mid-term evaluation, there was so much 'homework' for every class meeting, that the actual assignments lost meaning - it became more of a route process, with a focus of just finishing the work on time, rather than actually processing or internalizing the material. However, several students pointed this out to Professor Lopez, and she did adjust the amount of coursework for the final two weeks of classes. I thought that that was amazing of her, since she truly listened to what her students were asking for, and then adapted her lesson plans. She was an awesome teacher, and definitely made this a great class!

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?

I really enjoyed the class periods on Elluminate. Professor Lopez was very organized and presented relevant material that I see myself using in my future classroom. The one thing I learned the most from Dr Lopez is how to facilitate learning amongst students. The Graphic organizers and pictures were great!

I enjoyed meeting online with the entire class and having discussions over a variety of topics. Mrs. Lopez had great pacing and consistency with her lessons. I was skeptical about an online class, but if proved insightful and more collaborative than some traditional classroom settings. Well done and hope she teaches more of our online curriculum.

not having to be on oahu

The modules were thoughtfully laid out and the materials were relevant. I enjoyed the online exchanges and opportunities for discussion with fellow cohort members.

The synchronous sessions, as well as the ability to schedule my own study time and work at my own pace. The ability to go back and easily review concepts via the internet.

Leslie did well in generating community between the classmates (for example, assigning us to meet with each other outside of class) - this is not easy for an online course. I also enjoyed the breadth of the material covered in the course. We covered some really interesting topics.

I liked the weekly class meeting very much. It allowed the students to discuss current teaching issues in a non-attribution/non-retribution environment.

Online courses: The freedom to do your assignments at my own pace and at a time that is convenient for me This course in particular: Leslie was so involved and compassionate. She made us feel like this class was the only thing going on in her life (which all know is not true). It was amazing how she would read all the work we submitted, was always available to answer questions, and gave us timely feedback that aided in our understanding of the material.

I liked it best when the course emphasized practical teaching methods. I really liked what I learned about graphic organizers and gradual release of responsibility. I also really appreciated how the instructor modeled the teaching methods we were learning about.

This course gets an A+ in my book! Very relevant material!

great intro to teaching course

It was a good course. Though the pacing and assignments were reasonable both in terms of amount and time given to complete them, I found myself scrambling, sometimes, to complete them on time (with mixed success) which is something that has never happened for me as a full-time, on-campus student. Thank you for offering the midterm evaluations and for taking those comments into consideration. Prof. Lopez is clearly a very conscientious and thorough instructor.

I really liked the course, but I had a hard time keeping up with the work. I felt like it was almost too much for me. The other thing I didn't like was having to come up with "teacher implications", especially on the final project. I feel like I needed to be informed more about what the implications should be, rather than come up with them myself. I have never been a teacher in a class setting, so I don't really know what can be implied or inferred in certain situations. Others in the class have worked at schools, so I felt like they had a better grasp on that part of it. Maybe in future classes I will look more to my co-horts for ideas instead of trying to come up with things on my own. I really did enjoy the work though, for the most part. It opened my eyes to how far education has progressed since I was in school, and I learned a lot and feel much more confident about my future as a teacher. I gained a lot of tools which I will be using. What I liked a lot too was Leslie's cheerful and direct teaching style, one I hope to emulate as a teacher in my own classroom.

Awesome! Leslie is a good model of the strong qualities of a teacher I hope to be growing in.

Outstanding! Highly recommended for teacher candidates.

This course was very well organized and thought out. Teacher involvement was an all time high! I feel as if I have learned quite a bit, but I also feel as if I knew a lot of the material because I have been working in the education field for some time (some of it seemed quite self explanatory).

It was very good. The instructor took risks and used a lot of innovative approaches. Not every experiment worked, but it was always interesting and it's better than sticking with the standard formula.

Excellent, Professor Lopez is such a wonderful teacher.

like that there were office hours

I think it would help to spend a bit more time on practical points, like classroom management. Even an extra week on this could be helpful. Also, the final paper/project was a little confusing. If the specific expectations were spelled out more clearly like the other modules have been it would be helpful. Overall very impressed.

The amount of homework sometimes seemed very excessive for a thorough review/work on the assignment.

Thank you for all your hard work Lopez! I think the thing I learned the most from you is that students can really feel it when a teacher is prepared, knowledgeable, and engaged.

The final paper project was very confusing, especially the graphic organizer. I asked questions, listened to others' questions, talked to other students to try putting our heads together and I still feel like I never really got it. In general I felt like I understood what was going on in the class and what was expected of me up until the final few weeks. Then it seemed to sort of break down.
