| I found the course to be interesting and beneficial in gaining knowledge, not only for bioinformatics, but also for other areas of computer science (e.g. algorithms). |

| Fair.
The assignments were vaguely worded, and presented as if they were 'logic puzzles' e.g. Sudoku.
I normally like that sort of thing, but the combination of not having any reading material to explain the topic discussed in the assignment, and the vague description of the assignment itself made me really dislike them, though the topic itself was interesting.
(The first assignment by Guylaine is an exception, as it's instructions were explicit).
Overall, the relative importance of assignments seemed arbitrary, and rarely was I able to talk to fellow students in depth about the topics that were covered, as they seemed as clueless as I was.
Despite this, however, the course served as a pretty good introduction to what is out there in the field of Bioinformatics. Use of the databases containing genetic information, and the passing knowledge of the various alignment algorithms is useful if one plans on participating in the field in the future.
I feel we spent way too much time on alignment, however (literally most of the class lectures were on this). |
