He is a very kind teacher and that he is always there for us whenever we are in need of help. The way he teaches is very easy to understand. He's the best teacher language teacher I've had throughout my life!
He was a really good teacher, and I learned a lot from him. He cares for his students.

A+
Very good teacher.
Very nice teacher, made the class very fun and interesting to learn Chinese.
he is a very good teacher, i would recommend him to others
very great teacher, highly recommended.
Very nice person
22. My overall evaluation of this course is...
That I've learned basic Chinese to communicate with others. It has helped me learn a new language so that I would be able to communicate when I travel to China.
Started slow and wasn't as difficult. As the tee went on it picked up a lot, difficult but I enjoyed it.
worth to take it
Elementary Chinese 101 has been well worth my time. I feel like the materials are good, but as stated elsewhere I wish there were more class time to absorb and use what we learn. It feels like we are constantly rushing into the next chapter before we can get a chance to take the latest lesson on board.
A+
The course was clear and efficient. However it was a very intensive and required a lot of time outside of class as to which I did not have due to a difficult work schedule and other classes. But overall it was a very interesting course to which I hope to retain and use in my field of work and career.
Very fun class.
very good
great
It was a little bit hard for me.
23. Other comments:
This class is the best class I have and that learning Chinese has helped me a lot throughout my daily life.
I think the materials for this class are good. The books, videos and slides that Mr. Wen created are very useful. But, our time in class feels very rushed. We have a lot of material to cover. Some of the writing and vocabulary practice can be done outside of class, but it would be very helpful to spend more time practicing speaking and writing in class so that we can be corrected by Mr. Wen.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Wen Loashi goes above and beyond only teaching from the textbook. He encourages he students to experience Chinese culture, listen to popular Chinese music, and has conversations with other Chinese students. He puts a great deal of effort into his lessons, in order to make the information clearer. He pushes his students quite hard, but overall the students are much better because of his teachings.
He can effectively explain any difficult concepts that require clarification. Makes sure students understand the material before moving on to another subject. Encourages us to ask questions.
He is very encouraging and goes above and beyond to assist us to learn faster.
Wen Laoshi provided us with a lot of helpful power point presentations to accompany each chapter we were assigned. He also compiled a list of other learning materials/websites where we could find additional methods of learning Chinese. (Ex: youtube songs, tutorials, cooking/ quizlet flashcards/ games) These are excellent ways for us to learn Chinese, especially since we can try these methods in a self-paced manner according to what interests us.
Clear at translating and using great examples.
Offered a lots of souces Such as online etc... He's kind & positive to students
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
CHNS 102 must be four days a week. Two days a week is not enough. Other subjects can be taught every other day, but with Chinese, if one doesn't study everyday, one cannot improve and learn the language as well.
More interaction in class, such as group work, would make class more interesting and fun.
No changes
More games and activities.
Speak more chinese toimprove in class and need more time to consult
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He works with students outside of class. He is very prompt with all of his Emails. He takes extra time to explain difficult lessons. He puts a great amount of effort into every class and every student, even though he has many class and many students.
He made sure we were caught up in our course work whenever we missed class.
He always provided a better quicker way To pick up what he was trying to teach us. He always asked if there is any way he could help us and he was understanding if we could make it to class.
He always provided us with an opportunity to make up any missed quizzes and tests.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Absolutely. Chinese can be discouraging. It is very difficult. It would be easy to give up and assume the class is impossible. Wen Loshi explains the most difficult lessons in the easiest way. He makes everything very easy to understand. Chinese is very practical like mathematics. He explains grammar very logically.
I would definitely recommend Professor Wen to students because he takes pride in his teaching, such as creating powerpoints and providing students with useful outside material.
Yes he is an outstanding teacher.
Definitely! He is an excellent teacher- very knowledgable and patient. The class content and expectations were clearly explained to us, and it was an added bonus that we had a really good teaching assistant AND two wonderful tutors. (Those three really, really helped provide additional assistance with our classwork and homework questions!) All in all, it was fun being a part of his class, and I look forward to being a student in Wen Laoshi's future classes.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Very inspirational and kind teacher. Students want to do their best to please the teacher, and surprises themselves with how much they learned.
Fantastic teacher, makes sure his students understand the material, definitely cares about his teaching methods.
He is a great man and I am glad I took his class again
18. Comment on the instructor's professional attitude and behavior.
Very connected to modern times and cultures. His attitude and behavior was extremely professional. He shared many current cultural events with the class, which went beyond he lessons and assignments.
Maintains a friendly yet professional attitude towards his students and other professors.
He always came to class on time and ready for the class ..
Wen Laoshi teaches his classes in a very professional manner. He set clear expectations and if there were any questions, he would always take the time to answer them.
19. Comment on the instructor's concern for the students.
He takes the time to work with each student, no matter their level. He offers amazing resources.
Professor Wen shows his concern by answering all questions thoroughly and ensuring that students are not only doing well in the class, but also enjoying every minute of it.
20. What two or three single words best describe this instructor?
Driven, motivating, supportive.
Understanding, caring, professional.
Knowledgable, dedicated, professional
21. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Great teacher. It must be difficult to mold a class to students at so many different levels. Wen Laoshi makes sure that each student is given assistance from tutors, or himself. Beyond getting good grades, he want student to learn and continue studying Chinese. Great!
Zhijun Wen is a fantastic teacher and I wish he was teaching Chinese 201 as well.
Out of a ten he is a twelve
Excellent teacher!!!
22. My overall evaluation of this course is...
The teacher was great and the lessons were very valuable. It is too difficult to schedule language classes two days a week. Some students need the class everyday. It was more difficult this semester to stay on pace. It could be an option for some student who need extra assistance. Overall the class was very challenging and rewarding. I look forward to the next class?
One of the few classes that I can say that I enjoy. A combination of learning Chinese language, experiencing Chinese culture, and working with classmates guaranteed that I will back for 201 next semester.
I liked it a lot and so happy I took this course.
23. Other comments:
Students who already speak Chinese should not be in beginning Chinese. Or there should be a different class. It can be discouraging to watch students play video games in class, but speak Chinese flawlessly. It can make the class more challenging, but it could be more encouraging if everyone was at a similar level.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He teaches Chinese using different ways, like powerpoint, online resources (learning games), and teaching manually by writing on the board. He goes over every sentence that applies to the test and in real life speaking-Chinese. He provides help to students that he thinks needs help.
He is a very friendly teacher who is obviously very dedicated in the advancement of his students. He offers help to those who need it and keeps students from struggling with their work, despite how hard it can be for some to learn a language (such as myself).
Makes learning atmosphere well.
is will verse in the subject feild.
his strengths as a teacher were being able to gather everyone in the class to participate during the lesson. i don't think all teachers are able to to that unless if the class is really enjoyable. the class was extremely enjoyable. Good clear explanations of Chinese words. a very positive attitude to all his students and also a caring teacher who encourages students to work harder everytime.
Professor Wen is a great teacher who helps students, teaches well, and makes the class fun. He is a very kind teacher and he is available with help at any time. Very helpful on the content and very knowledgeable about it. I got off at a bad start, and Prof. Wen helped me get back on track. Definitely one of the best teachers I have had.
I guess I could say, humble, answers every student's questions and concerns; thorough. An enjoyable and fun class to be honest.
He always provides the great learning environment where students can feel comfortable. For example, when I speak to everyone and have mistake, he gives me feedback quickly and gives me praise. This encourages me to learn a new language. I was able to make mistake without anxiety, which supports me to have confidence.
Strengths: approachable, friendly, knowledgeable, flexible, understanding, and creative.
Mr. clearly has a lot of experience teaching Chinese. His teaching style is excellent and structured the homework, lectures, and tests very well.
Strengths - Very kind and positive teacher, makes learning fun - Very helpful and understands students viewpoints Weakness - Perhaps keep a better track of time, especially on quiz/test days
He does well on his presentation of his lesson uses lots of different senarios and tries to help us understand what he is saying by speaking clearly and repeating himself I like that he is so polite and patient with the clss.
Many students in the class had varying knowledge of the language. Prof. Wen is able to motivate and challenge at their individual pace. Every individual student knows how hard they work. Prof. Wen pushes us to do our individual best.
The ability to know his students strengths and abilities
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
a little more time on chapter exams.
The power point slides should include pinyin with new words to help with faster learning of correct pronunciation. Also, I think it would be helpful to know how to more easily identify when someone is speaking Mandarin and when someone as speaking Cantonese, as the the two are both commonly heard.
Be more strict. I see so much students on their phones during class right in front of him, and he doesn't really do anything about it. That is disrespectful. If it was me teaching, I would ask them to leave and do that elsewhere.
none
There is no need for any change he can do. Everything is fine in the class. I would say he's a great teacher!
I would change the time of test and quizzes. A little more time will help.
Not much, well, to be honest the homework system needs to be keep tracked other than that, none.
I do not have any suggestions at this time.
Have Chinese tutors in the class to assist you
yes He is a wonderful professor
Students who cheat, only cheat themselves. Watch for tests/quizzes.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He allowed students who never finished exams to go to his office to finish. He reminded students to finish back-work and to look over all the online sources to help enhance our Chinese.
Yes, he always made sure his students were able to follow along and understand the lesson material.
will take out time in his schdule to help students.
by making students responsible for their action such as missing class. He would often question but he always gave a positive attitude when talking to students.
Very greatly. He tells you exactly what you need to know and what assignments are due.
Answers the student's questions, encourages students to participate, and makes sure the students are studying for upcoming quizzes and tests.
He recognizes that students have other responsibilities in life other than school work, and hence was very flexible in regards to homework submissions, and tests. He is also very good at judging the level of difficulty per chapter for the class and would adjust his teaching methods and or time spent for the particular chapter so that the students would be able to maximize their time and energy.
He offers each student an equal opportunity in the class and wishes for each student to succeed and learn the language efficiently.
Provided extra information to help enhance our learning experience
He always emphasizes on our welbeing and he tries to help us with anything we have difficulty understanding. I specificly recall not being able to come to class because I was very ill and he had sent me what I missed and gave me a chance to make it up which helpped me out a lot
Comments on students who talk too much, arrive late, miss class, miss homework, and sleep. By mentioning these things in Chinese, we understand what he is saying and the students work to improve there behavior.
motivating, not pressuring
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I will recommend professor Wen to other students because he teaches Chinese very well and is very organized, chapter by chapter. He is nice and he helps students with whatever they need help with to make their Chinese better. He also gives students a lot of review time before quizzes and tests. During the test, he repeats the question many times.
Definitely! I both really enjoyed his class and I feel even more excited to continue learning Mandarin.
yes, teaches in a fast way to cover the most in a short time while encouraging the students to learn
yes i would recommend taking Zhijun Wens class. Its a writing intensive class but he sure knows how to make it enjoyable. For just 4 days 55 minutes a day that i took isn't so bad.
Yes. He is a very caring teacher among students. He knows the content very well and he can teach it to others very well.
Yes, because Wen laoshi is a very fun and energetic professor. Enjoyable class, if you get the momentum right then succeeding in this class is fairly easy.
Yes I would definitely recommend Zhijun to other students because he is a wonderful teacher, who is knowledgeable, flexible, and understanding.
Yes. He is an excellent Chinese teacher and sets up every student for success in the class. Although the work may have been tough at times, he understands the theory and technique of learning languages.
Of course! Wen Laoshi is a wonderful Chinese teacher
yes I would recommend him he is a good professor
Yes... Individual attention.
Absolutely, he will help them to get to the level of speaking that they desire and then motivate them to do their best. The class is fun, knowledgable, and prepared

He's a great teacher.
I want to say thanks for being a great help and great teacher. I definitely learned a lot. I hope to take more classes from you.
Have a great summer 2013!
I really like his class:) He is so nice to everyone and teaches us kindly.
I would love to have him as a teacher in a future Chinese class.
Thank you for a wonderful semester, you are very kind.
Great lesson plans and PowerPoint slides.
He made the class fun and enjoyable.
18. Comment on the instructor's professional attitude and behavior.
Teaching attitude is very good.
He was friendly in the way any good mentor is. He engaged his students in a very lively mood every morning and encouraged us to continuously try hard and improve. I have never had an easy time learning foreign language. I have tried both French and Thai and have not retained anything from either language, yet after taking this class I have constantly tried improving on my lingual abilities and feel much more confident in my ability to learn a new language and I owe that to my teacher.
no comment has to professional attitude and behavior that shows professionalism
he displayed a good professional attitude towards his students. He showed good concern when students are missing out in class and to students who are missing class work. its my first time in college and he showed a great difference of college teachers towards high school teachers.
Very professional and very kind. Always caring about students.

19. Comment on the instructor's concern for the students.
As mentioned in a previous summary he makes sure that all of his students are engaged in the lesson and don't fall behind. He helps those who needs help and the only way someone could possibly not make it through the class would be by never showing up. I wasn't very confident when I started the class that I would be able to keep up but with the teacher's help I have been able to learn the material and I feel when the next semester starts that I will be ready to learn more!

he would often tell students what they are missing. although he has late work policy he still accepts them which is great.
Always available for any students in need of extra help.
Listens to students and gives them chances, fair.

Chinese 101 was a challenging yet fun course. It is one of my favorites at KCC so far. I enjoyed learning to write Chinese characters and pushing my limits and going beyond my comfort zone by speaking, singing, interviewing in Chinese with other classmates.
Excellent, if one puts in the effort
Loved the course he made it less painful
Very difficult. One hour a day is not enough. I will study the material over the break.
