4. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
All class materials presented articles, videos, examples, assignments were all valuable. And will be used to help me be successful in my career.
Learning about multiple intelligences was valuable to me because it's important to become familiar with each intelligence so that we can create a more effective learning environment.
I think that the activities, resources, and videos Ms Silva used were helpful. I was skeptical first because this course has no book to go with it, but she did a fantastic job of allowing us to comprehend the lessons by a variety of sources. A new and fun way to learn online versus the same read the text book and discuss.
a lot was very important that made me realize much more!
Ms. Silva was very helpful. She responded to emails quickly even on weekends.
I really loved your modules. They were so interesting, caught my attention, and taught me many new things about education!
The strong interdependence of the class. Having to interact with one another for our grades helped me to look at new points of view and consider different options on a constant basis.
ways of teaching my students
Most of all i found the forums we did each week to be valuable. It had a lot of information in the modules which helped me to do the forums.
I learned a lot about how to put together a lesson plan, and about cultural differences.
Clear instructions & great resources available. Also, commenting on classmates' posts were rewarding.
Weekly modules with videos and attached articles were most helpful. "Real life" accounts and articles were most interesting and easiest to relate to. Good examples of completed assignments also helped to see standards and expectations.
I loved this class! It was very simple & I learned alot
In general, everything I learned in the course provided valuable information. Much of it was stuff I haven't learned, since it was my first ED class.
We learned a lot of teaching methods that make up a great teacher. A great teacher is not only one that teaches the required material, but also incorporates new ways to teach the students and is openminded to the fact that not all students learn the same way.
I loved the fact that we worked in groups a lot and got to share our points of view. The online assignments (the forum postings, etc) were really neat because we got to interact with other people in the ED. 100 classes. I learned so much about the education system in Hawaii and feel better prepared to become a teacher.
Ms. Silva was always encouraging and outgoing. She made class fun. She was always very supportive. This was one of my first education classes and I really enjoyed it. It was very practical. I would definately take another of Prof. Silva's classes!
Going into groups and learning in a new, fun way.
Learning theories and styles and teaching theories and styles were most valuable to me.
I thought all of the activities and project was valuable. Doing group projects and activities i really enjoyed a lot. I really like the multisensory project because all of us got to share our activity with the class and by doing that it showed me that everyone has different ideas and method of teaching lessons. Its an eye opening.
We became like a big family, class was fun when we were grouped up into different groups for different activities.
the last project, making lesson plans. helped me the most in getting a feel of writing lesson plans and how teachers prepare for class, different things they need to take into account.
How the teacher got all of us to interact with each other. She was very understanding and nice and also gave way to some students in need. She definitely helped us gain a better understanding by always requiring us to participate daily. She did not require us to buy a book and still used relevant resources.
I really liked how this course was set up, in class and online. The online set up was excellent, and I wish that all teachers who use laulima for teaching or resources they should have a similar set up to Ms. Silva's. It was easy to follow with each new and past week. Also all the valuable things were there when you needed it.
The most aspect of this course was the projects and forums that we did for this class. It has taught me a lot and I gained a lot of knowledge in this class.
Being able to have face to face contact with my teacher and also with my classmates.
5. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I would say everything was valuable because all the information will help us in the education field.
I don't think any of the aspects of the course was of less valueable.
no comment.
None to be honest, Professor Silva is an excellent teacher who uses all of the available resources she has to impart understanding of her craft, including the students themselves.
I cant really say things were not valuable in this course because it gave me a sense of understanding of what its like to be a teacher. Each forum had a different message.
I had a hard time understanding where some of the material was relevant to teaching. I get that we are in Hawaii, but this is also a highly military state, and thought that it should be geared more towards teaching and not so much just the Hawaiian schools. I am going to be teaching in Washington/Oregon, so I found that aspect of this class a waste of my time.
Grades were not updated frequently & had to wait a long time to see updated scores for forums/projects.
In the first several weeks, commenting on other students weekly forums was interesting and challenging. Towards the middle and end of the semester I found it more and more difficult to make comments. The forum postings seemed predictable, and so it was hard to find interesting comments to make. Specific format or outline of the final Multi sensory assignment was not clearly posted in one place. I had to piece together the assignment parts from 2wks of module parts. I also did not find the forum postings of our assignments not very helpful. Not sure if I like sharing with other students my completed assignment.
I dont think that there were any least valuable aspects. I learned what I need to learn throught this semester.
I don't really feel that anything was "least valuable" because everything Kalea presented us with, in my opinion, was useful information.
I think that all the aspects of the course were valuable.
I think it was all valuable.
Sometimes the class was a little redundant; however, it was an introduction to education class, so I did not really expect it to get deep into specific topics.
I didn't care too much for the forum posts.
I dont think any of the course was least valuable. Mrs. Silva did a great job teaching her class.

15. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
She's awesome in how she teaches NO improvement needed.
I think that organization of the course is very good and can't think of any suggestions to offer. Overall I was very pleased with the course.
I don't think you should change anything. I really enjoyed taking your ED 100 class!
Keep up to date with the innovations in education, exactly as she quite obviously has been.
I think a huge improvement on this course, and all of the ED courses would be to focus more on teaching, and not so much on Hawaiian culture.
I think she is a great teacher
The only thing that bugged me a little about this course was the time it was at. Because of its time, I wasn't able to get an extra hour at work (per day). However, I don't feel that there is anything that really needs improvement.
Keep being a great teacher who will go the extra mile to make sure that her students can achieve an excellent education!
I think she does a great job of teaching it already.
I guess she can make give more practical ideas and examples from her years of teaching. Most of us want to know what it is really like on the front lines.
I throughly enjoyed this class, I wouldn't change a thing.
I think Mrs. Silva did a great job teaching her class. I really enjoyed it. Thats one of the class i got to interact with all my classmate and actually talk and get to know them. I wish all the classes was like her class caring and willing to help.
I think she should just keep doing what she is doing... SHe is a great teacher of course considering she is teaching a course on teaching... ^_^
Nothing, I loved this class, and all the projects were really run and interesting to do.
She was always there when you needed her. She always explained everything very clearly and I alwaya understood what the assignment that she had given us.
less work and homework
16. Comment on the instructor's professional attitude and behavior.
Very proffessional, Gives feed back, and very understanding.
I felt very good about our professors attitude and behavior.
She is very welcoming and nuturing but still expects the best and provides the corresponding support
Ms Silva always seemed like she carried a positive attitude. Even though this was an online class, you could tell that she wasn't judgemental, and wanted every one to exceed in their own way.
Be willing to answer questions fully.
Very positive!
She was very professional and puts alot of effort into comments on our work.
Thank you for your kind words, encouragement, and support!
Exceptionally professional, very knowledgeable. Approachable, clear and easy to understand. I wouldn't have opted to take a second of her courses otherwise. I only wish I could have gotten more courses with her next semester.
I found Ms. Silva to be a very good teacher and I would take classes from her anytime.
It was a online course but she seemed like she had a great outlook on teaching her online students.
Well, I never physically met Jaydene Silva, so I do not know her attitude or behavior.
Very professional. Good role model for future teachers.
Ms. Silva was very professional!
Kalea is a very positive and happy/down to earth person. It is really easy to have a discussion with her without feeling like you're looked at as stupid or weird.
She knows what she is teaching. Definately! Always positive and encouraging! Displays great teacher quality!
She is very professional, but she also is friendly and nice. I think she's one of my favorite teachers at LCC so far. She is always willing to help and stay after class to help you with your projects.
I totally enjoyed Ms. Silva's class. She is upbeat and positive. She made it fun and interesting. There was good comeraderie with all of my classmates.
She's a very great professor that has a good attitude and behavior every class. She make things interesting
Mrs. Silva is helpful and friendly. She is encouraging and makes students feel important. Wonderful experience.
Mrs. Silva always brought a cheerful and happy attitude. She keeps positive and shes down to earth. I like hearing her stories.
no matter whats going on in her personal life, Ms.Silva comes to class everyday with a smile on her face. energetic and ready teach.
Her attitude always remained professional and her behavior was fit for every meeting. We got to know her well and if we let her in she got to know us as well. She kept the class fun and interesting and always showed an interest in the students that are in need or falling behind.
It's nice to have a "local" professor. One of the reasons is because she can relate to each of her students who were born and raised here. But then also find a way to relate of others who moved here and who have only been living here for only a couple of years.
She had a really good attitude. One of the best teachers and very respectful. She treated all her students fairly.
17. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
No suggestions.
Fast grading. I didnt find it fair to have to wait weeks after weeks for grades on assignments.
I felt you did a great job on your teaching style and methods!
This is the same question really, as number 15...
Like I said before, maybe focus more on teaching and less on Hawaiian Culture. Many people go to college here and don't stay on the island to teach, and we have a lot of military here, and a lot of us transfer to different schools and states every couple of years.
Weekly module topics were very clear and interesting, I also found the flow of the topics really pieced together a whole picture/vision.
Once again, only the time was a small issue. I can understand that many like afternoon classes, but maybe instead of having two afternoon classes on different days at the same time, maybe it'd be possible to have two classes on the same days at different times? I'm not quite sure how that'd work, but if I missed a M/W class, I couldn't make it up on T/R because I had a class at that time. :(
None. Class is always fun!
*Focus on students specific grade levels (what grade they want to teach). *Have a section on special ed.
I guess it would be fun to have more "meat", more insight into the teaching profession. More hands-on stuff.
I think she should keep doing what she is doin.
The size of attachments should be bigger, so students can submit their full potential of work, instead of worrying about the size of their final project.
I want to improve by doing my work and try my hardest to finish whatever I have to do.

21. Other comments:
Thanks for an awesome semester I really enjoyed ED 100. I learned so much that will be very useful in my career.
Thank you for a great semester!
This class was interesting, challenging, fun and I learned so much from Kale'a. She set a high standard in teaching that we were consistently motived to strive for. Each module was different, I never knew what to expect each week. It was always a nice surprise. I have to say that Kale'a did a great job of modeling what she was trying to teach. She just provided such a great example. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this class to everyone, as we can all learn to be better teachers even if it is just for your own children.
great kumu!
Thank you for all your help this semester!!
Thank you Professor Silva!
On question 19: Don't bother with textbooks, your better without them than most every other professor I've had who uses them combined.
Love her online class and will gladly take another online course with her if she teaches any. I learned things about education and what it may be like to be a teacher.
I am mostly nuetral to the questions on this survey because I never met the teacher. I will say that the class was good, well taught, and the lessons were interesting. I just didn't feel that a lot of it had to do with general teaching.
Forum postings should be more confidential. Would like to see student names be held more confidentially. Couldn't the visibility to Student User Names be enough for forum postings? I am currently employed, and I would not like my employer to know that I am taking courses outside my current line of work. It would not be good in my current position if my employer knew I was taking courses not related to my current line of work or that I was thinking of changing my career path.
I don't understand why it's a sad face to disagree the use of a textbook. Anything to save $$ right? :) I really look forward to taking other ED classes, and hopefully they're just as enjoyable and useful as Kalea's.
Thanks for being such a great teacher! You are always there to talk and give help whenever needed. Your positive attitude really makes the class fun!
I enjoyed this class. It was not to challenging, but that was okay. Ms. Silva was very generous with her grading. I appreciated that.
she's an awesome professor :)
I hope i get to have you again as my ed teacher Mrs. Silva. :) I wish all the teacher were like you. i really enjoyed your class. All the classroom strategy will stick with me and I just want to say Thank you for being a caring and helpful teacher.
I always enjoyed coming to her class and always learned something new everyday.
